Some cheese and some meh on here (see the first two tracks). Suffers from National Treasure syndrome where everyone wanted to work with a legend who needed a top-selling record. Late-80s early 90s style production is a little gross too. Definitely doesn't feel like essential JLH. The Los Lobos and Canned Heat tracks are standouts, tho
Just one of the all time bangers. Atmospheric, energetic yet chill. The vibes! The sheer motherfucking vibes!
incredible energy! demands attention and requires close listening. not really hangout joint, but if you have the time and the brainspace, get in there!
A certain kind of perfection. Not avant garde to today's ears, but sweet and sincere and groundbreaking for its time.
Some serious classics on here and great grooves, but didn't dig the R&B slow jams so much.
Just a masterpiece. Biggie's flow is ridiculous. A few unfortunate artifacts of the sketch/interlude era of hip hop, but other than that flawless production and just acres of lyrical genius
Filthy, angry, funny, undeniable.
I can see where this might have blown minds back in the day. Interesting mix of trad and electric instruments, blues and psychedelia, pop and rock, some vague bits of politics. But it doesn't feel like it has a fundamental brilliance that makes it anything more than a footnote in the overall cultural progression of pop music.
Hard to argue with. Not just good songs, not ones that have stood the test of time. It's got a wide path, mining a whole range of sounds and styles. Just very very impressive overall
A new favorite. Can't believe I missed this back in the day
Now's the time on Sprockets when we dance
Untouchable. Genius. Stevie.
Just an all time banger. No skips. Well maybe skip Moby Dick. But it's insane how good this record is
Several amazing tracks, a couple meh tracks. Several tracks that feel a little cringey in retrospect. James Taylor thinks he's a grizzled old bluesman! He's a soft rock hero!
All time low key genius shit
Deeply embedded in American culture, but far from the best Bruce record. I'm a big fan and probably won't spend much more time with this after revisiting. Check out the live stuff if you're looking for a way in.
Janis is a force of nature. This is a good vessel, and an amazing time capsule, but it has weaknesses. A bit of 60s wank that doesn't hold up here, middling songwriting there. The moments of brilliance are worth the drawbacks, but while my heart wants to give it a 5, my head knows it's a 4
I didn't think I liked Green Day, but this record is undeniable. Phenomenal top to bottom. Song writing, production, performance, all 10 out of 10.
A revelation! I had never heard it before and have been playing it almost daily. Jangly, psychedelic, lightly punk, melodic, harsh, funny. it's great!
One of the all time greats.
Spiky and spooky and perfect
An unbelievable talent. Loose, funny amazing
Interesting record, but a little samey, a little macho, a little Tenacious D
Quirky and likeable, but a product of its timei probably won't spend much time on in the future
4-5 standout tracks and a bunch of 60s bs
Chonky, muscular, creative. I can dig it! Will be revisiting
A hidden gem! What a delight. Perfect in its way.
Beautiful record. Love the vibe
A phenomenal title track, accompanied by an albums worth of competent but uninspired slow jams
An incredible album! But I think Homogenic is even better
Meh. By the third track I was tired
Just a delight. Energetic and sweet.
Masterpiece, plain and simple
Wonderful record. I never find this back in the day. Coming in fresh, I can see why so many of my friends are fans.
An unpolished gem from peak Laurel Canyon. Half the grateful Dead, Jefferson airplane and of course David Crosby. Not quite a masterpiece, but has several incomparable songs
It's interesting, but not really for me.
It has some truly great songs, but the rest is just ok
Fun and crunchy, but not really my bag
Big ball of cheese with a few wonderful songs
A great band undermined by tepid songwriting and Anthony Kiedis's tepid singing
Not the best Sinatra. Not the best Jobim. Not awful, not brilliant
All time killer. No skips
Really strong music, but a little samey when taken all together
It's hard to argue with this record
I prefer this to What's the Story. Good record!
Spotty! Moments of brilliance, stretches of tepid meh.
A perfect album. Vast and intimate. Sincerity as religion
Intense! Good if you need a brain scrub, but it's a lot
Not spectacular, but wonderful. Low key. Perfect in it's own imperfect way
Not bad, but not brilliant either. Slides off the brain like rain on a sunny day. It's fine. Cute, even.
An all time great. The voice, the songs, the execution. No skips
Not in the top 5 Radiohead albums, but still 5 stars. Sweet and sad and paranoid and justified. This band only has 2 misfires IMO, Pablo Honey and A Moon Shaped Pool. Haters, listen to The Bends and In Rainbows
The conscious hip hop you have when you're not having a conscious hip hop
Phenomenal music. Amazing tracks, lyrics are nuts. A time capsule that holds up beautifully
A few stand out tracks but becomes a bit repetitive.
Super cute, peppy 80s britpop. Like XTC, Adam Ant, Elvis Costello, Oingo Boingo. You can hear little shoots of new wave trying to come through. Sweet and fun
Meh. It's ok, I guess. More interesting than pleasant
Goddamn. I had never listened to a Slipknot album before. Brutal, tight, relentless, impeccably written and produced. Not my usual cup of tea, but when this kind of thing is called for, this is what I will reach for
Legendary. Untouchable. Songwriting, guitar, production, time capsule of the culture, touching everything from chill groove to metal to experimental art freakout. no skips
Brilliant when it's brilliant, but with slack moments
Hot take: P-funk is not all that interesting
Classic! Perfect songs. The template for modern country music
Extravagant, indulgent, self serious, ferocious, brilliant
Dense. Difficult. Beautiful. Overstuffed. Too much. Undeniable. Tiring. Hard to take in as a single album, but consistently amazing
Slow burn, but I'm really glad I discovered this
I was shocked by how much I liked this
Beautiful, haunting. Perfect in it's way, but drags at points. The 2-3 best songs are some of the best ever written
Gorgeous. Simple, sweet and sad
A masterpiece. A delight. A breath of sweet, fresh, easy air
Many spots of absolute brilliance, with some streaks of cheese mixed in
Strange and compelling with sharp elbows
