4/5
First album i’ve ever listened to by Dirty Projectors and it was quite good. Loved the prog-rock and psychedelic inspirations for the album as a whole. The album artwork is really interesting as it prompted me to listen to the music as soon as possible. My favourite tracks were the opener Cannibal Resource, Temecula Sunrise, Stillness is the Move and Useful Chamber. The whimsical and odd lyrics of useful chamber also have a reprise where the albums title is repeated and that alongside the folky instrumentation made me love it even more. Very good album I really enjoyed it. The 3rd Mitchell album I have listened to, I really enjoyed the folk rock elements in this album which were present throughout and made a pleasant impression on me. Track wise I really enjoyed the lyricism in ‘River’ the title track ‘Blue’, ‘Little Green’. In ‘Little Green’, “the little green have a happy ending” line reminded me of the cyclical nature of winter or the assumed rocky relationship. As it highlighted the changes in one’s life from thorny icicles and birthdays as the main character aims to better themselves. All in all, this album was very good. 5/5 -GEMV (12.01.2026)

‘Silver’ is a great album opener it makes me feel like one of those practical magic witches. The use of strings elevate the track alongside the vocals. ‘The Killing Moon’ is an iconic track!! “under a blue moon I saw you” It’s definitely one of my favourites on the album alongside the Title Track and closer. It’s a good post-punk/ psychedelic rock! The mood and atmosphere created by the album in my mind were laced with wilted roses in a gothic manor, endlessly aching for love to reach it. Ratings wise it’s a 4/5 again!-GEMV (27.01.2026)
