1001 Albums Summary

Almost perfect lp. No bad tunes, but the sequencing seems off to me. The tunes don't flow. Playing with a different sequence

Not something I would put on very often, but an enjoyable listen.

An epic debut. Derivative yes, but they created their own sound in the process. it still swings for the fences and delivers.

A solid set, their most cohesive lp up to this point. Still a great listen.

My favorite album of all time. Perfect in almost every way. The only thing I would change would be to put "In my time of dying" later on the album.

In line with what i love about Am-Rep style bands, but this somehow misses the mark for me overall. Not bad, just generic and unmemorable.

Enjoyable, even though it loses steam in the second half. Now I know what era Oranger got their main influence from!

Lots to absorb here in this double lp. Marvin isn't my favorite soul artist by a long shot, but there are some cool grooves here. This record feels very personal to him, it may require more listens.

So many hooks, so many melodies, yet this album falls completely flat for me. Even "there she goes" gets tiresome in context of the lp. Pass.

I know my indie cred will take a hit for this, but Dino Jr have never really been my bag. Riffs, vocal lines, solos, and structure all seem to be recycled from record to record, and it just doesn't do much for me. Ill stick with "Green Mind" whenever i'm in the mood.

Jeff Lynne's magnum opus. 4 stellar lps in a row conclude with this gem. I love every song, the rich melodies and textures shine throughout. Plus it starts with Turn to Stone. Amazing.

Insert quote here about how influential this album was.

I dunno, I can see where this could be enjoyed, just not by me.

I love Steely Dan, and this record has 2 of my favorite songs by them, but the whole record is lame.

Some rad tunes interspersed with not so good tunes interspersed with bad tunes.

This all feels so familiar, like Bowie intentionally wrote tunes that mirrored his 70s output, but with less memorable hooks and melodies. Not bad, but easily forgettable. 2.5/5

Between 72-76, Stevie Wonder could do no wrong. Only 2 major hits on this record, but amazing throughout. 4.5/5

Dull and uneventful. Miles obviously got his legend status for a reason, but this album doesn't convince me...

Banal (adjective): describes something so ordinary, unoriginal, or predictable that it becomes boring or lacks any fresh perspective. It is typically used to criticize things that are cliché, hackneyed, or overused to the point of being uninteresting

Solid pop album, although the sequencing feels a little funky to me.

The album Lou Reed was born to create. Masterpiece.

There are more Coldplay records on this "1001 albums you must hear before you die" list than Frank Zappa albums, and that speaks volumes to why a record like this ends up on this list. Boring, uninspired throwaway NY tunes....

They're not "bad" songs, just very tepid. Every song feels formulaic, and while it may resonate with some, it does nothing for me. Now back to something more exciting, like watching my oatmeal cool...

Great album even though it loses a little steam towards the end. Would be a 4.5/5 if it had the UK Surf version of Wave of Mutilation instead.

Never listened to an ES record before, and I was pleasantly surprised. Hints of Nilsson throughout. Better than average! 3.5/5

I'd probably like this if I was 18 when it came out...

There's a heady market for this type of music, I'm just not the target audience, and this listen confirmed that.

Aside from Tiny Dancer and Levon (2 of my fave EJ songs), the rest of this record is pretty mundane.3.5/5.

Stop!, Been Caught Stealing, and Three Days are the highlights of this record. The rest feels haphazardly thrown together to me. 3/5.

A fantastically oddball album. 4.5/5.

Not their best record, but solid. 3.5/5.

Stellar LP. After 2 so-so albums, they hit paydirt here. Clem Burke's drumming was Blondie's secret weapon imo.

Definitely NOT an album I needed to hear before I die. Contemporary hip hop is too bland for me. Pass.

laaaaaamme...

This is one of those records that garnered lots of accolades, but it doesn't resonate with me. The band is tight, but the songs are lacking from this era.

Better than average. 3.75/5.

Pleasant, but nothing I'd listen to again.

Not great. Below average. Bona Drag was better.

This album hit at the right time last night. 4/5.

The king of the blues.

Uneven and mostly pretentious.

Above average disco album. 3.5/5.

Bjork's Debut!

The FG's had all the ingredients to be a killer band....except the songs. Not bad, just always been neutral to me. Next!

Cool. Subtle yet powerful..good stuff. 4/5.

Perfect debut. 5/5.

I bet this was the bee's knees to teenagers in 1965....but for the rest of us? 🤷‍♂️

Nilsson is a goddamn American treasure.

They could've trimmed 2 or 3 songs off this album to make it more cohesive, but stellar overall.

A damn fine lp. 4.5/5.

A damn fine record.

Ewww...no.

Finally, a "fully listenable" Neil Young record. But still a little janky. 3.5/5.

A well crafted 80s pop record. 3.75/5.

Sex, drugs, and Rock & Roll. What else could a 14yr old ask for in 1980? 5/5.

This album must be where spinal tap got the inspiration for "Jazz Odyssey "....1/5.

A good chunk of this record is great, but a good chunk is also kinda dull. 5 or 6 tracks make it on a best of comp but the rest is unmemorable. 3.75/5.

After 48 years owning this album, it still delivers some of THE best tunes Aerosmith ever wrote. An easy 5/5.

I should listen to PJ Harvey more. 4/5.

Congratulations! You've made it through 4 of the 7 Neil Young records on this list! How are you feeling? Do you require nourishment? Alcohol? Medical assistance? Once again, half a great record mired by half a half-assed record,in my opinion. 3.75/5.

Pretty alright record! 3.5/5.

Stellar lp. 4.5/5.

Feels like leftovers from the white album. Not bad but disjointed and not terribly interesting. 3/5.

Perfect lp. 5/5.

Kinda ambivalent to this one. Not their best record imo.

Some really great tunes surrounded by some filler tunes. 3.5/5.

Requires more listening, but good. 3.5/5.

I like early TW, this stuff not so much. 2/5.

Meh..

1962 was a good year for swingin' bachelor pad music. Wonder how many cigarettes were smoked and cocktails drank to this record....4/5.

Yep. 5/5.

I love this record. 4/5.

A little long, but still holds up amazingly well. 4.5/5.

Sounds just like it did when I first heard it in the 80s: long, uneven, and boring. 2/5.

A fine country lp. 4/5.

Morrissey goes grunge! Tepid and uninteresting...

Sooooo tired of these Oasis rip-off bands....ugh...

Nap-tacular! 2/5.

I bought this at age 7, and still love it. 5/5.

Interesting! But not my cup of tea. 3/5.

My first Husker Du lp. Holds up incredibly well. 4.5/5.

The skinny tie always turned me away from this record, but it's surprisingly good (except Allergies, thats dumb). 3.75/5.

It's really good for this type of record. Though I don't see myself listening to this type of record more than 5 times in my life. 4/5.

I like the other one better, but this one's a banger.

Finally a record that exercises my mental acuity. 5/5.

3.5/5.

Lyrically great, musically awkward and uncomfortable. 2/5.

Found it on YouTube. Left it there..... 2/5.

A masterwork. 5/5.

Not my jam, kind of dull. 2/5.

The record your one cool aunt was playing spring of 1978 when she let you smoke pot with her at her apartment. 4/5.

New order are a singles band, and this album reinforces that for me. 2 or 3 standout tunes surround by fillers. 3.5/5.

The first most important record in my life. It blew my mind at age 3, and still does today. 100/5.

Starts promising enough, but after 5 or 6 tunes it loses me completely. 2.5/5.

Never been a fan.. 2/5.

Essential. 5/5.

Loved the first 2 records, but this one falls very flat for me. 2/5.

Without a doubt the greatest Funk album of all time. 50 years of spins under my belt, and it still whoops all kinds of ass. 100/5.

My favorite J&M chain album 4.5/5.

Grungy! 4/5.

I love earlier XTC, but this is oversaturated with hooks to the point of being uninteresting to me. 2.5/5.

Meh. 3/5.

A damn fine record

Doesn't hit quite like it did when it came out. 3/5.

The 3 hits are ok but as an album it falls flat. 2/5.

Great soundtrack for that overnight shift at the adult bookstore off I-99 just outside of Barstow.... 3.5/5.

The very best hip hop album ever conceived. 100/5.

A few bangers, but overall not a great lp. 3/5.

Oof.....not good. 1/5.

THE best post-Beatles solo lp. 5/5.

Haven't listened to this since it came out, and it still doesn't resonate with me one way or another. 3/5.

Still as badass as the day it came out. 4/5.

Fun! 4/5

Too perfect. I get why people love this band, but they are just meh to me. 3/5.

3.5/5.

On Superunknown, Soundgarden phone it in effortlessly. Bland, uninteresting songs from a band that once reigned supreme. 2/5.

Essential. 5/5.

I wanted to like this, but it took too long to get off the ground, and I lost interest. 2/5.

Zzzzzzzz..... 1/5.
