Cool jazz record, the live recording means it's got a really great vibe. Sarah Vaughn has an amazing voice, too

perfect for early foggy october morning (especially after getting woken up by drone attack warning) (she *is* divine) nobody honestly dislikes this kind of music live and very tight !

Great album. But once again I ask myself why this album is on this list. There are dozens of albums out there with Sarah Vaughan. And what makes this one more important to listen to, than all the others? Why was "Swingin' Easy", "No Count Sarah" or "After Hours" - just to mention a few - not put on the list instead of this one? Not that I think they are better but it would be interesting to know. Ok, it might be that the "author" of this list simply put one of her great ones here - that's also a reason. But why?

Imagine being so talented that you straight-up forget the lyrics to the closing track on your live album and still end up on the 1001 Albums list. Haha! An enjoyable listen, and she oozes charisma, but c'mon Sarah, maybe the song you don't know should be removed from your setlist!

Bastante riquera

שרה וואון היא באמת מלאך וזה היה מושלם לג׳אז (העולם קרס(

Not might type of music, but no denying what an amazing voice she as. This sort of music just sounds like something you would have in the background and not something you're actively listening to.

Not for me

Jazz when it's best! Liked it a lot Especially September in the rain & Thou swell

Beautiful.

Fun one first time for the album and the artist…will listen to this one again

Jazz is cool, I like jazz, I wish my dad didn't like it tho

It reminds me a lot of the tiny desk concerts that people do today and I love that so much

Fun and jazzy, live but not pretentious, short but sweet. It’s a good little package

I kinda love the saturation, wouldn´t like it in a studio album, but this is a LIVE RECORDING from '57 and it sound amazing. wtf. i think in songs like how high the moon is a little too much. but overall it sounds great.

Christmas music

First impression was that I loved hearing the stage manager's announcement that Sarah Vaughan was recording this for a live album. That was like a door back in time. Amazing quality for something recorded in 1958 and what an incredible voice! No autotune needed bitchhh. 'Just One of Those Things' was great. The 50s was such a quaint time.

Really enjoy the jazzy jazz vocals from the singer. Very captivating.

Really liked this one. The energy is really good, her voice is great. I love the little moments where things go wrong and she makes it part of the song, although there’s maybe a bit much of that on the last song for me. Could definitely see myself listening again. Fav song: September in the Rain Least fav: How High the Moon

Great album. Seems like she was actually having fun recording it. Great level of crowd interaction. Was even enjoying the scat at the end . Felt tongue in cheek. Fab. Only downside was that just a gigolo slowed down felt very jarring compared to the Louis prima version. Specific rating - 4.6 Fav song - honeysuckle rose / how high the moon Least fav- just a gigolo.

Such a fun one to listen to, such a joyful concert and so clearly recorded it's hard to remember it's from 1957! She even sounds great when she's singing about how she's messed up the song or forgotten the lyrics. Favourite song: Willow Weep For Me Least: Just A Gigolo

You probably had to be there

- Sounds like the 'When Harry Met Sally' soundtrack. Nice! - She ate down

I would love to listen to this live in my favorite cocktail bar. But it's pretty lifeless on a recording.

Favorite track(s): Willow Weep for Me, Be Anything But Darling Be Mine

Женщина у микрофона, мужчины в экстазе

Surprised how much I enjoyed this. Really cool to hear such a fun and lively set. Amazing voice and stage presence

very nice

Should be have been an other record, or several.

probably the most boring album ive come across in a while

This came up just as the weather outside was starting to actually feel like fall (it's mid October and it's been in the 90s since the start of autumn!), so the timing feels perfect. I'm not the biggest fan of jazz vocal style singing, but I do enjoy jazz overall. The recording itself is absolutely marvelous, but this sort of album definitely needs a specific situation to be enjoyed.

I absolutely love this woman's voice, and this might be the very earliest live album I've ever listened to. It was fun and a delight.. even if you hate Jazz, this was surprisingly lighthearted

Sarah Vaughan earns her reputation as one of the all time great jazz vocalists on this stunning live show, especially on tracks 1 and 3.

Joyous. It would be impossible to listen to 'How High the Moon' without smiling

Bon mais monotone

What a delight. Definitely an album that I'll be re-listening to in the future. Favorite track: Honeysuckle Rose ; How High the Moon

What an amazing voice. If only It weren’t live…

Comfortable and quaint, not much variety

Nice to get another old album, and another jazzy album at that. 3.5

A fun album. I think that older Jazz artists are often seen as this totemic presence, like they never had fun. When really, the music typically was the opposite of that. It's very cool to hear the crowd noise, hear her talking to the crowd, and hear her riffing in her songs.

Listening to this straight after Christina Aguilera - it's like day and night in terms of soul, personality and voice. No comparison at all really. Just a gigolo was a particular standout. Profound and melancholy. Much more depth compared to the Louis Prima version. (Louis' version is by no means bad, but Vaughan adds something extra with her version, another layer to the song) I realised by the end the album that Sarah Vaughan is one of the greats. Up there with Billie Holliday and Ella Fitzgerald! How have I never heard of her before? It was a treat to hear this for the first time. I made the slight mistake of listening to this in the morning. This is a late night album, and I will certainly be listening to it again in the evening. It's deliciously short and sweet. So short that I started spinning it a second time after it ended. The 1001 generator has given me something very special; a genuine talent.

I’ve never heard of Sarah Vaughan but wow…her voice is like butter. I’m not a big fan of live albums but the sound is so clear I almost felt like I was there.

обложка прикольная,но наполнение мне не очень понравилось3/5

Enchanting.

A little old fashioned for me but she had a great voice

A very good album, excellent voice. I love how the performance and perception to listen the live show is good in this album, really like. 8 out 10

3 1/2 hours of Ella yesterday, Sarah today. I’m either getting Billie or Throbbing Gristle tomorrow.

Enjoyed the listen. It’s definitely of an era. Pleasant to have on in the background too. Jazz club vibes.

Could have done without the scatting and the bopping on the last track, honestly it kinda spoiled what we had going on there, as amazing as her voice is. it was fine, i think i'd like it more if i was in a club. makes me wish i was there, so I could be under its spell more than I am.

Мне совершенно не понравился ее голос и манера исполнения. Альбом длиной 35 минут ощущался как целая вечность

Not generally a fan of live recordings but this delight was intimate and as close to being there as possible. Sarah Vaughan’s voice and impromptu humour was lovely.

Remember my patents listening to Sarah Vaughn, this was certainly a vibe during that time.

Every live album from the list so far has not disappointed. She's got a great voice, kind of husky and smooth at the same time. I like the low key jazzy tones in the background mostly there to highlight her performance which is the right call. I can't help but think of a post apocalyptic D.C. while listening which was my initial gateway into this old school style.

shubadubadubadiiiii

Jazz je suis pas fan du style

I can see myself spinning this record one day if I open a cafe in a narrow street of Paris and own a vinyl copy of this. Otherwise? It's pretty, but I don't see myself revisiting it all that much.

Big band jazz - all good, I liked the Ella album more

624/1089 - Good voice and cool comping throughout. Wanted more variety in types of jazz songs.

Very dinner vibes

poor sound quality, but this is a master at work here

What a beauty. Great voice and she has fun. Its cool. I still know nothing about jazz so take this with a grain of salt but I feel like the human voice is less nimble as other instruments here. Like they cant improvise the same way. So maybe im less in on vocal jaz than I would have been before. But this still might be as good as you can do it. She does improvise and riff with the crowd which is so fun. She sings specifically for an audience member at the end. She sings about not knowing the song. Its so cute. Thats another thing I likr alot is how yhe crowd works here. The stuff I mentioned before but also the clinking of glasses. Just hollering out to the stage at times. Its what I want from a live album. I want some of that live experience. The good and bad of it. A clean live record doesnt make any sense. When its all said and done, this is great. I love it alot. There are some structure things that im not 100% sold on but its a small issue. Otherwise im all in

Really good voice

What’s not to like. What a sweetheart!

Smoooooth.

no es muy bebop de su parte creo

I listened to this album in such an unusual fashion today, I listened to Sarah Vaughan and Her Trio's At Mister Kelly's while getting my hair bleached and it was so serene. You can tell that Sarah Vaughan was such a charming and witty person based on her commentary in between songs here while also balancing a very beautiful and somewhat shy vocal range on this album. At Mister Terry's is not the full set but a selection of songs by Mercury records to be released in 1958, and I gotta say they only picked bangers. For a live project this album has so much whimsy to it all and feels like such a delight for Sarah Vaughan to record and for the audience to hear. It is one of those delightful projects I eat up for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and I am so glad I was able to give this a shot. Nuff said!

So nice to have enjoyable albums coming through each day. This is another classic which is a brilliant bit of vocal jazz, the likes of which you don't hear of much anymore these days. Brilliant!

Laidback jazz which is most definately recorded the way intended - very live, under rehearsed, & very much in a smokey bar. Capturing the spoken introduction where the audience are told they are also Mercury recording artists for the night is a nice touch, and the handling of musical gaffe was handled in such a way that it came off as entertainment rather than embarrassment. 3.5 stars of pure Class

ufff que delicia de piezas, una maravilla de rolas

Vaughan has a superb voice that is both technically exceptional and emotionally rich but I'll be damned if every one of these songs doesn't sound exactly the same - same arrangement, same tempo, same feel. I get it also that the bassist and drummer are holding back in order to give Vaughan the spotlight but their playing is so restrained that it barely registers (especially the drumming which is nearly inaudible).

I didn't know Sarah Vaughan before today. A truly stunning voice and a really nice album. Not something I would generally listen too but I did enjoy it.

Ms. Vaughan most definitely has a great singing voice and can hit a huge range with her vocals and that is seen through these songs. Big Band is not my sort of jam by any means but I can recognize the talent she had and the reason for the listen of this album. The live recording gave it some extra nostalgia for sure. I gave it a solid 6/10 and so 3 stars it is.

★★★☆☆ I’ve realized that I enjoy jazz a lot more when there’s a singer involved, and Sarah Vaughan’s voice is fantastic. This was smooth, relaxed, and had a great intimate jazz-club atmosphere. It also happened to be raining while I listened, and this turned out to be perfect rainy-day music. “September in the Rain” was easily my favorite track, but the whole album was consistently enjoyable. Even the scatting on “How High the Moon,” which can sometimes lose me, worked well enough here. My track ratings averaged out to 6.28, but I’m bumping the album to **6.5/10** because of how well it flows and the overall atmosphere. A really enjoyable listen. **3 stars.**

Sarah is perfect, the band is professional. Great live jazz. 4/5

Great album that was really a lot of fun. I might suggest my family just plays 1950/60s Jazz at Christmas time from now on because that felt more like Christmas Music or at least family-time music than the same Drabble of holiday season songs. Love the mistakes being made that Vaughan covers up and really just love the melodies the bands put together.

Listened before? No Familiar with the artist? No Thoughts: - I'm still not a big fan of live albums; this sounds great for a recording from 1957 though. - Amazing voice. The songs themselves aren't really interesting to me, but she makes them so. Favorite track(s): Honeysuckle Rose, Embraceable You (Apparently I listened to an expanded version!)

Great singer in, what I imagine, a small club (in the '50s) with a small, tight backing band: piano, bass, and drums. This album is eminently listenable and wonderful. 5.

It's fine. Not my vibe, the cello-drum-piano with vocals is good, but I'd rather see this live than listen to a recording. Its a bit dull.

Very cool vibe.

Awesome! I think I like her the most over Billie and Ella! 8

I love a live album in EXACTLY this format. I love that they preface the audience, I love that she jokes about Etta James and not knowing words, I love that you can hear people moving and laughing. Truly MY kinda album and if you don't feel better listening to this then I don't know what to tell you.

I admittedly have not listened to much vocal jazz but I really enjoyed this. You can almost imagine being in the smoky Chicago night club where it was recorded. Sarah Vaughan is in a playful mood through the performance, occasionally joking about forgetting lyrics. I don't find it particularly life changing and I'm not sure how often I'd go back to it but it was good.

What a cool album! I had never heard of her before. Good listening experience

Tikrai old-timey, taip sakant

What a beatiful voice she has. A very good live album. Even when she does some minor mistakes, she acknowledges it, confidently and with humour moves forward.

Inicia bien pero termina siendo muy repetitiva

50s jazz. Live recording. Famous jazz club in Chicago. Lovely, old fashinoed jazz. Not my favorite voice.

Beautiful

live moosic best

Inte min typ av musik men albumet får 3 på grund av Sarah Vaughans fantastiska röst och sättet hon hanterar att hon sjunger live. Grymt verkligen!

Really good vibes, feels real and fun, beautiful voice, boring though

no es un 5 pero me lo compraría

So great.

It is the thing it is so superbly that it seems harsh to mark it down for not being quite to my taste. The jazz a bit too smooth and easy, with a dose of sentiment that isn't for me. Amazing voice though, warm, with that effortless, almost unaffected, vibrato. Splitting the difference between how much I like it and how good it probably is

Sarah Vaughan’s voice is beautiful, but I can’t get in to this kind of jazz. It does nothing for me.

My God her voice is wonderful
