Never been a fan of Beastie Boys lyrical style but the album overall is not bad, it’s got good sampling and a consistently strong hiphop beat and i like Qtips feature.
Real solid songwriting as per usual from him, i just prefer some of his later works like Blood on the Tracks or Time out of Mind. Ballad of a thin man is one of his best songs period.
Absolutely incredible. Standouts for me being Car on a Hill and Down to You. Last few tracks kind of lost me a tiny bit so it’s not perfect
Not bad, but outside of the title track it’s pretty overrated dadrock.
Solid, but i’d say its one of the weakest from Zep’s golden age, pales especially to IV and Physical Graffiti.
Interesting, not for me though.
Not a metal guy, but i see why it’d get rated highly in the genre.
Some super gorgeous parts, especially a remark you made, but overall not the most consistent jazz album.
One of his best albums. The final song is also one of his best. I think TVC15 overstays its welcome a bit however.
Pretty sick! Could see myself rating this higher on further listens
Maaaaan the premise, lyrics and cover art is so fucking weird but the instrumental and arrangement is so good. I have to give it a 3 because if you tune out the strange parts its super good.
Some MINT disco. Honestly the famous title track might be my least favourite here, and its a solid track so that says something.
Iggy makes fine music that for whatever reason RARELY grips me (Tonight, success and fall in love with me are great). Its cromulent outside of some ‘concepts’ that haven’t aged well.
Groovy! If i could speak spanish i’d probably adore this but the language barrier is a thing so i have to just rate it pretty good.
AHAHAHA MY GOAT (kinda). Literal favourite song of all time on this (guess which one). The album flows wonderfully and has tons of chill songs, however it is bloated and not every song is a winner so it’s not perfect. Believe me the title track alone tempts me to give it a 5.
That was MINT. Very thought provoking lyrics with a heartfelt delivery. Massive standouts are i never asked to be your mountain, phantasmagoria, once i was and ESPECIALLY Pleasant street, what an incredible song. Bonus points for being the Father to the GOAT.
Some beautiful country tunes with damning and even relatable stories, very nice.
Nothing wrong with it, very solid rock, but as an Aussie it’s overplayed to its detriment, that said, it’s popular for a reason.
Wow i almost wrote that off based on the beyond overplayed intro track (which is a fine track but man its done to death.) that was fantastic!
Not my thing, especially the lyrics and vocals (not a rap guy), but the beat and samples were neat (especially the doors track).
Tidal only had a select few songs from this album for some reason?? The little bits i heard were lovely though.
Very gorgeous. Can effortlessly ease the mind. The tempo rarely changes so if you liked the first song, you’ll like them all. I’ve got to see you again might be the standout (Amy Winehouse vibes) but it’s a tough call, they’re all pretty strong
Vibey and flows like a river, as we expect from him! Very nice! Not a weak moment here but be open for a vibey long one. Standout is maybe is that enough, but they’re all strong so it’s hard to say. Was tempted to give it a 4 due to how long it is, but i can see its length being a boon, so i’m proud to give this my first 5 star.
Mr. President, a second 5 in a row has hit the building. Best songs are Blue and River.
When i’m in an overrated album competition and my opponent is Unknown Pleasures 🫥. Nah but for real, fine album that just never clicked for me and still hasn’t, though its impact on punk and alt-rock can’t be understated, because i can hear a lot of elements from my favourite bands in here. Shadowplay rocks though.
My god i’ve been putting off this album for ages, this is PEAK. As a fan of CSN i thought i’d like it. Man fuck unknown pleasures for breaking the 5 star streak, cause it wouldve been 3 in a row.
Very nice, John, thank you 👍
How do you sleep is sick
Neat concept and pretty enjoyable!
Was almost going to write this off cause i felt the few intro tracks were on the boring side but it pulled through with a decent album. Very proggy type album and neat theme.
Thats some nice smooth jazz right there.
I knew pre-hits bee gee’s were different but damn i didn’t expect this. The intro track and final track are uniquely beautiful. They showcase their strengths in producing ballads but it’s a bit bloated and not every song is a winner (a few of them sound pretty half-baked too). Lamplight is underrated.
I feel like i’m underrating this a bit but i wasn’t truly grabbed by one single song, however it is a well constructed story driven album with a change in style halfway through the album (from traditional folk to hard rock). Maybe it’ll grab me more on subsequent listens because it’s got clear strengths.
Fun for sure and they’re self aware right from the first song. Don’t feel that strongly towards the album however.
Neat debut but i much prefer their less punky sounding later albums like Ocean Rain and Porcupine.
This is just very run of the mill barebones grunge for the most part, the final two tracks are pretty decent but those are all that’s keeping it from a 1 star cause i got almost nothing from this. At least the EP was short so that’s something.
Side note: this was annoying to listen to in its original EP form on Tidal, cause theres only a deluxe edition on there and the original 6 tracks arent the first 6, they like tracks 4-10 for some bizarre reason.
Changed my mind, first 1 star rating, congrats.
Solid, not in love with every track, but the strong vocals keep it afloat across the board. Water under the bridge is the standout.
Smooth, smooth, SMOOTH! No complaints here, just relaxed vibes.
Can see why they were a big 60’s name, very much paved the way for Pop and Rock.
Not really a thrash guy, but it’s easy to see how impactful it is and how it’s aged so well, also the core theme is really solid too. I can totally understand giving it a 4 and i’m on the edge of that myself, but i’m more of a Ride the Lightning kinda guy.
I was almost gonna give that a 4 for the strong intro and few other bangers, but a few too many average tracks keep it balanced, and the outro felt a little strange and out of place. Still, points for surprising me Cardigans, wasn’t aware of your game properly til now.
Don’t have much to say on this, it’s very 60’s and it’s pretty solid altogether.
Certainly interesting and has a pretty humorous way of getting its theme across. That said the latter half is more enjoyable and unique, and for an hour long album thats pretty important. Anyway the Wind Blows is probably my favourite but any of the second half gets points for interest.
It’s been a while since i’ve listened to some good honest rock. It’s doesn’t super wow me but it rocked up when i needed it. It’s short but half this album could be standouts.
Hoo boy, so that was my first full listen of a Tom Waits album and i initially didn’t think i’d be on board but i’ll be damned, that gravely voice didn’t bother me, infact it adds to the strong grim narrative being presented. Although it’s light on tracks to individually return to (as most wouldn’t make sense outside of the album, like dave the butcher being clown music without context), when the tracks are strong, they’re strong, my standouts being Johnsburg, 16 Shells, Gin Soaked Boy and Rainbirds, even if its a simple piano finale, it’s just a very beautiful sendoff.
Also the first track was in Robots, so that’s pretty cool.
Solid debut 👍 do miss Di’anno’s vocals in the later entries.
Was almost gonna 2 star this based on the first 2 tracks cause i got nothing out of them, but from “Is She Weird” onwards is pretty solid. “Is She Weird” is my standout and maybe the final track too.
Damn i haven’t had any duplicate artists yet in my 50 odd days, except this is my THIRD Joni album, how lucky am i. She really knows how to tell a compelling narrative and transport you to her world, and even though this isn’t my favourite from her, it’s still strong. The standouts could be any track from the title track onwards, its a pretty consistent album.
Damn i was surprised how much i liked this. It’s very 80’s and has that synth feel like duran duran, tears for fears etc. and some vocals were kind of Nick Cave-ish. The religious theme and core narrative was pretty interesting and has some real catchy tracks like this corrosion. My standout would be Lucretia my Reflection.
Some nice sexy baseline disco and some chill ballads, neat!
Controversially, i don’t love most of this, but My Girl and You Don’t Miss Your Water are peak. Solid overall though
Im shocked i didn’t get that much from this im afraid, i feel like i should like it more than i do, but Costello’s vocals weren’t doing it for me today, maybe i’m off my game today idk. Standouts were Clown Strike and London’s Brilliant Parade.
This was fun, but almost every song sounded the same, not necessarily bad but they blended a bit. My standouts would be the intro and I wanna be your Boyfriend.
