I tried (and probably failed) to listen to the album with an open mind. I like The Smiths, I really dislike Morrissey. I didn’t particularly enjoy this album, maybe because I couldn’t get past how I feel about Morrissey, but I do think I also just didn’t enjoy the music that much. I definitely prefer his work with The Smiths to his solo stuff. The national front disco could be an excellent track about people being drawn in by the far right, but when Morrissey sings “England for the English” it’s hard to view the song as a critique rather than an endorsement. Similarly when he sings “we are the last truly British people” it’s impossible not to read that in the context of his Xenophobia. All that aside, I think the music just wasn’t massively exciting to me, although there definitely were parts I enjoyed. Fav song: You’re Going to Need Someone on Your Side Least fav: You’re the One for Me, Fatty

I love this album. I haven’t listened to it in years, maybe because my taste in music changed or because I listened to it too many times when I was younger. But after years, I found I still loved it. It’s an album I won’t ever be able to separate from the memory of listening to it when I was young. There was one holiday when this was the only album we could agree on as a family and so it played constantly. Now when I listen to it I can instantly picture the most beautiful coastal drive. To actually talk about the music, I think her voice is gorgeous and the songs are so full of emotion. A real struggle to pick a favourite and least favourite as I enjoyed every song. For some reason I think I will continue to not reach for this album - maybe I simply don’t want to erase the image of that one holiday by listening to it somewhere mundane. Fav song: Take It All (but this changes from moment to moment) Least fav: Lovesong
Liked this one. Some fun songs including some I already knew. Think I maybe preferred it to the other Dire Straits album we’ve had. Fav song: Sultans of Swing Least fav: Six Blade Knife
Enjoyed the first song but thought a lot of the songs went on too long or just weren’t my thing. I liked the guitar instrumental track though. The bits I enjoyed were nice, but I probably wouldn’t listen again as there were just too many bits that didn’t work for me. Fav song: Roundabout Least fav: South Side of the Sky

Really liked this album, I love how varied it is although it sometimes felt a little too busy. Fav song: BaBopByeYa - had a few picked out as favourites but I think this one really shows the variety of the album as it changes multiple times throughout the song. Least fav: Neon Gumbo - is this backwards? I think it’s backwards. I love that she’s experimenting but it just doesn’t do it for me (although I like the thunder at the end)
I really enjoyed this album, moody and atmospheric in such a good way. Listening to the whole album through I sometimes found it fading into the background for me a little, but it was still enjoyable. Fav song: Lovesong - probably partly because it’s the song I was already most familiar with. I also really liked Pictures of You and Untitled Least fav: Last Dance - it’s fine I just didn’t find it as interesting as the other songs
Mixed feelings about this one. The songs I enjoyed I really enjoyed but there were some I didn’t like very much - usually the ones with the strange rapping. I liked that there was some variation with some more intense songs and some slower songs. Fav song: Scar Tissue Least fav: Purple Stain
Really enjoyed this album, will definitely listen again. Loved the storytelling and the chill vibes. Fav song: The Weight - also loved I Shall Be Released and Long Black Veil Least fav: To Kingdom Come
Some enjoyable songs but I find the singing style a little grating at times. Liked the harmonica, and the atmosphere but found it struggled to hold my attention. Fav song: I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For - a classic (so is With or Without You but I’ve heard covers of it that I prefer to the original) also liked Bullet the Blue Sky Least fav: One Tree Hill - maybe? Idk I didn’t dislike any of the songs just a lot of them blurred together for me.
Really enjoyed the variation on this album, not everything landed for me but overall I really liked it. Fav song: Here Comes Your Man - also liked Monkey Gone to Heaven and Silver Least fav: Tame
This is very much not my genre. In fact I think it's currently my lowest rated genre in this project. That being said, I enjoyed this album. I'm not sure I would want to listen to the full thing again, there's only such much repetitive music I can listen to. But I would happily listen to a lot of the songs again. Some great samples used really well, some fun beats. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. Fav song: The Rockafeller Skank Least fav: Kalifornia
I really liked the chilled vibes and the trumpets that keep showing up. The lyrics aren’t always my thing, but I like how funny they can be. They fit the casual feeling of the album. I liked the samples, sometimes adding really unexpected elements, although there were some sound effects I didn’t like as much. I wasn’t a fan of some of the talking bits and I thought the intros to the next song at the end of some of the songs were a bit strange. But overall I really enjoyed the album and would listen to it again. Fav song: Can I Kick It? Least fav: Bonita Applebum
Really struggled with picking a rating for this one. I was fighting the urge to sing a long at my desk, but when the album ended I had absolutely no desire to relisten. I don’t know if it’s just that I don’t want to like it. I can’t deny how enjoyable it is to listen to the big hits on this album but some of it just felt too noisy for me. I preferred the songs that were a bit more melodic. There are definitely some good catchy songs, but as an album it fell a bit flat for me. I think even with the songs I want to sing along to, I’m only really interested if they’re on somewhere I can sing along with other people. Maybe that’s just because they’ve been overplayed, maybe it’s just the association I have with it. I’m not sure. Giving it a 3 because I don’t think I’ll listen again. Fav song: Don’t Look Back In Anger Least fav: Roll With It
Pleasantly surprised by this album. I hadn't heard of it, but I really enjoyed it. Good variation across the album, some angrier songs, some softer songs. Reminded me a bit of The Clash. Will definitely listen again. Fav song: Down In The Tube Station At Midnight Least fav: English Rose
I thought this one was a lot of fun. I liked the vocals but I can understand why people wouldn't. There are maybe some moments where it's too much for me. It's a little cheesy, but the energy is so fun I can forgive it. Not sure I'd come back to it, but I had a good time listening. Fav song: I Believe in a Thing Called Love - probably because I was already more familiar with it. I also liked Love Is Only a Feeling, Friday Night and Love on the Rocks with No Ice Least fav: Black Shuck
I liked a couple of the songs but I found the rest of the album pretty boring and repetitive. I’m really not a big synthpop/electropop fan. Some of the beats were enjoyable, but I just struggle with synths and electronic drums and repetitive music. I do find the theming fun, it makes sense to me to make this kind of music about robots and machines. It was interesting to read the reviews and see what people love about this album, it just isn’t for me. Fav song: The Robots Least fav: Neon Lights
The Cross is a good song but most of this album just felt cheesy to me. There are a few other songs that I enjoyed and then a lot of songs where either the lyrics were really cringey or the production was not to my taste. Some individual songs to revisit, but this is not an album I will come back to. Fav song: The Cross Least fav: Hot Thing
In Parks and Recreation, Leslie and Ann burn an "anti-seduction" CD to try to stop Leslie from getting with Ben on a road trip. One of the songs is "something called Bango Boogie Bonanza." At times, this album reminded me of that. Except I'm Chris Traeger joyfully playing the air banjo in the backseat. This album isn't something I would have listened to without this project, but I really enjoyed it. I definitely wouldn't listen to all 2 hours of it back to back again, but I had a great time and I will come back to some of the songs. I love how collaborative the album is and I think that manages to keep it varied despite how long it is. Fav song: Dark as a Dungeon Least fav: Soldier's Joy
Pleasantly surprised by this one. It did feel like some of the songs were a bit similar to each other, but on the whole I really enjoyed this album. I liked the vocals, she sounded almost bored sometimes but it suited the music. I think this is one I will listen to again. Fav song: Waking Up Least fav: Vaseline
Enjoyed some of the songs but probably wouldn’t listen to it through as an album again. I preferred the middle of the album to the first and last few tracks. Definitely liked the more upbeat songs, but the slower songs could grow on me if I listened more. Fav song: Butterflies (not sure if this is actually my fave but it’s where the album picked up for me and I started to enjoy it)
It always takes me a minute to get back into this kind of music but then I like it. Linkin Park often plays at my climbing gym and I do sing along. It reminds me of being a teenager when they would play a lot (and In the End was a meme) I do now find some of it a bit cheesy though. Fav song: A Place for my Head, I like the guitar at the beginning Least fav: Runaway, I think this is the most guilty of cheesy lyrics. Particularly the bit at the end where the rhyming words are the ones that are shouted.
Lots of songs I already knew and liked - coincidentally had listened to the album a few days ago when a friend put it on. Really enjoyed it but not sure I would listen to the whole album again - although I wouldn’t object to it being on. Fav song: God Only Knows - a classic Least fav: Here Today - it’s fine just didn’t like it as much as the others
On first listen I found it a bit forgettable, but when I listened again I really enjoyed it (and then I listened a 3rd time and liked it even more) Fav song: Showgirl, I also really enjoyed Housebreaking and Home Again. Least fav: Junk Shop Clothes
Didn’t initially like this one but I enjoyed it after the first few tracks. Listened through twice and both times I started off not liking it and ended up thinking this was an album I might add to my rotation. Really enjoyed the mix of genres and the different instruments that get used. Also really liked the style of the singing. Fav song: Shiver - I also liked Temptation of Egg, Raw, Astonished (in Memphis) and Bottom Line Man Least fav: (Well) Dusted - shame it’s so early in the album because it made me think I wouldn’t like the album.
Thought it was okay, but I didn’t enjoy it as much as Pet Sounds. It was interesting to read the history of the album and I can see why people love it but it just didn’t do it for me. Fav song: Good Vibrations - also quite liked Cabin Essence and Heroes and Villains - Instrumental Least fav: Mrs O’Leary’s Cow
Overall quite enjoyed it but didn’t find it particularly exciting. Actually did like Mother but it felt very out of place on the album so was a bit jarring. Other than Mother, it’s the sort of album I wouldn’t mind being on in the background but I wouldn’t seek it out. Fav song: Synchronicity II - also liked Murder by Numbers and Every Breath You Take Least fav: O My God - found this one particularly uninteresting
I loved this album. It was very much my sort of vibe. I already knew Blister in the Sun but was delighted to discover how much I liked the rest of the album. This is one I will definitely listen to again. My main complaint is that Good Feeling is such a good album closer that it seems a shame to have put the bonus tracks on the end. Fav song: Blister in the Sun - I also liked Gone Daddy Gone and Good Feeling Least fav: Ugly
Enjoyed this more than I thought I would, but I probably wouldn’t listen again. The music was fine to have on in the background but nothing particularly grabbed my attention. Fav song: Strangelove Least fav: Sacred
I enjoyed this album a lot and it’s one I’ll probably return to, although I did find some of the tracks blurring together. Fav song: Change Partners - I also loved The Girl From Ipanema and How Insensitive Least fav: Dindi
This took a little while to grow on me but then I really enjoyed it. Really like his voice and the contrasts between the quieter and louder moments. This is definitely one I’ll listen to again. Fav song: Easy Way Out - also really liked L.A., Wouldn’t Mamma be Proud and Better Be Quiet Now Least fav: Colorbars
I enjoyed listening to each of the songs but as an album I found it repetitive. Really liked his voice and I loved the music, would put any one song on and enjoy it, or even play the whole album in the background, just wouldn’t put it on to properly listen to again. Fav song: Tutti Frutti (maybe? The songs felt similar enough that I struggled to pick a fav) Least fav: Jenny, Jenny
Really liked this album, for most of the songs I didn’t mind them being so long as I felt they changed a lot throughout, but a few felt a little repetitive to me. Put off a little by the lyrics on the last track, hoping I’m just not interpreting correctly, but didn’t get a great vibe - a shame because I love the music. Fav song: Nawa - also liked Frustrations and Stubbor Problems Least fav: WonderWonder
Thought this one was a lot fun. I really liked how his voice and the female singer’s voice worked together. Some of the songs almost gave me musical theatre vibes, in the best way. Fav song: Buona Sera - I think it stood out to me because the beginning is a little different to the other songs. Also loved Just a Gigolo and The Lip Least fav: Body and Soul
Was disappointed on my first listen but enjoyed it more the second time through. Did find some of the songs a bit too repetitive. Not sure if it’s a bad thing that we got Pet Sounds first because it makes me think this isn’t as good as that - or if the bits I like are the bits where I can see Pet Sounds is on the horizon and that makes me look at it more positively. Fav song: Help me, Rhonda - also liked Please Let Me Wonder Least fav: Don’t Hurt My Little Sister
Really love this album. Nostalgia definitely plays a part in my enjoyment of it - reminds me of car journeys with my family - but I also just think the songs are gorgeous. My main complaint is that I think the end of the album isn’t as strong as the beginning, but the beginning is so strong that this is sort of understandable. Shame he’s such a dick. Fav song: Moondance - Into the Mystic, Crazy Love and And It Stoned Me - this feels very much like the sort of album where my favourite so my would change depending on the day Least fav: Everyone
Another one that reminds me of car journeys with my family. I know people sometimes struggle with his voice but I like it and I really enjoy the style of these songs. On the first listen I did feel like a whole album of music in that style is too much for me, but on a relisten I didn’t feel that at all - maybe one I just have to be in the right mood for. Fav song: So Long, Marianne - this is winning due to nostalgia, one we would sing along to in the car. I also liked Suzanne and The Stranger Song Least fav: Winter Lady
Definitely one I enjoyed more on a second listen - I think on the first listen I was only looking for the songs I knew well, but on a second listen I was able to enjoy it as an album. Lots of songs here that I loved but I’m not sure about the Medley towards the end. Fav song: Oh! Darling - also liked Here Comes the Sun, Come Together and Golden Slumbers Least fav: Mean Mr Mustard
Was a bit put off by the album cover but then I really enjoyed it. Can imagine putting it on when I’m in a bad mood and just wallowing in it, although it was maybe a bit gloomy for the mood I was in when I was listening. Fav song: Madeleine-Mary - I also liked I See a Darkness and A Minor Place Least fav: Knockturne
First listened on my commute where it was crowded and far too warm and I thought “this is just the Beatles but shit” and then I listened again on a walk and realised I actually really liked it. Strange to realise I knew the last track after not recognising any of the rest. When I gave it a proper shot in a good mood I thought the songs were fun and enjoyable and that there was a good variation across the album to keep it interesting. Fav song: Time of the Season - I also liked This Will Be Our Year and Brief Candles Least fav: Changes
Think some of the tracks maybe go a bit long but overall I really enjoyed it. Some songs on here that I already knew, some that were new to me but I liked a lot. Fav song: Peg (I already knew this one so might just like it best because it’s familiar) also liked Big Black Cow, Deacon Blues and Home At Last Least fav: Aja
I can understand creating an alter ego to vent your frustrations. I'm not against an album satirically using excessive violence. I like songs where the narrators are flawed and I do think we have an insistence on reading all songs as autobiographical that we just don't have for other mediums. I don't think any of that makes it okay for the songs to be so misogynistic and homophobic. And adding your daughter's vocals to a song about murdering your (alter ego's) wife feels pretty personal to me. It felt very much like he was just saying the most shocking thing he could instead of actually saying anything funny, which I think is one of the laziest forms of comedy. Some of the beats were good but I spent the whole album cringing at the lyrics so I didn't enjoy any of it. I'm sure he does have the talent for wordplay that people say he does, but I don't want to listen to an album that hates women so much. It doesn't feel like it's taking the violence against women to the extreme to critique it, it feels like it's taking it to the extreme for the sheer fun of it. Very much felt like an album where no one considered that straight men aren't the only people who listen to music. I will say that while I found the song vile, there is something artistically interesting to me in the juxtaposition of the baby talk and the violence in '97 Bonnie & Clyde. I'm sure there's a way to play with that without being so misogynistic though. Fav song: ... My Name Is Least fav: '97 Bonnie & Clyde
I really like his voice and the backing singers. I enjoyed the music a lot but by the end of the album I had had enough. Very nice to have on in the background while I was working though. Fav song: Suspicious Minds Least fav: Don't Cry Daddy
Might be my favourite Beatles album so far. I think the first song is fun. I like that it's an early example of a concept album but the concept is just "what if at the beginning and end we mentioned it was a band performing and in the middle we just do a bunch of songs." As with all Beatles albums it has some songs that I love and some that I really don't love. This one was more songs I love than songs I didn't. Gets a bit too weird at times and Within You Without You felt like it dragged, but I did really enjoy the album and I will listen again. As my friend said when I mentioned I was listening to it "it's got a lot of classic Beatles hits. It's a lot of 'oh this one.'" Fav song: She's Leaving Home - as a knitter I have to also mention When I'm Sixty Four for the knitting reference (and just being very sweet) Least fav: Within You Without You
A lot of it sounds very similar, but it is good fun. A couple of the songs shake it up a little. Highway to Hell is a classic. Struggling to choose a rating as I did enjoy it, but I think I would get bored very quickly with how similar it is. Settling for a 3 because while the energy is good, I can't see myself putting the album on again. Fav song: Highway to Hell Least fav: Love Hungry Man
Not something I'm always in the mood for but I enjoyed this album. Killing in the Name is a classic. A lot of the songs (including that one) are a bit repetitive for me, but sometimes you do just need some angry music. Fav song: Take the Power Back or Killing In the Name Least fav: Settle for Nothing
Some classics on here. Good fun, a little repetitive at times but overall an enjoyable listen. Fav song: One Love / People Get Ready - but of the songs I wasn't really familiar with before my fav was Exodus Least fav: Natural Mystic
A few tracks I enjoyed - mostly the ones I already knew. A few I thought were okay and then some that actively annoyed me. Overall just not really my thing but I will always sing along to those songs I already knew. Fav song: Smooth Criminal - also liked Man in the Mirror (sung this on stage with a school choir when I was younger so it gets nostalgia points) Least fav: Speed Demon
Didn’t like this at all on the first listen but on the second listen I enjoyed it. It was definitely a bit odd with all the talking, but it grew on me. Not sure I would listen again, but I’m glad I gave it a second listen. Fav song: The Waltz Least fav: One Of Those Things - it just made me wish I was listening to Werewolves of London
Really enjoyed some of the songs but found the ones I didn’t like to be boring. The bits I liked are fun and I would be happy for the songs to come on if I was out but I wouldn’t listen to it through as an album again. Fav song: Take Your Mama - also liked Mary Least fav: Comfortably Numb
Reminded me of some bands I used to listen to as a teenager. Maybe if I listened at that age I would have liked it more but as is I thought it was fine - wouldn’t seek it out but would listen if someone else played it. Fav song: It’ll Be a Long Time - also liked What Happened to You? And Come Out and Play Least fav: Genocide
I liked this more than I liked The Mothers Of Invention albums we've had. I don't think I'd listen again but there were songs on it that I enjoyed. It was experimental without being as weird as the Mothers songs. I thought a lot of the songs went on too long though. Some of them I enjoyed at the start but I had either gotten bored by the end or it had moved to a place I didn't like as much. Fav song: Peaches En Regalia Least fav: It Must Be A Camel
Starts well with a couple of songs I like, but the album failed to hold my attention, even on a relisten. I wouldn't object to any of the songs if they were playing somewhere, but I feel no desire to listen to the album again. Just felt quite bland. Fav song: Stuck In A Moment You Can't Get Out Of Least fav: Grace
This one wasn’t really for me. There were parts of the songs I would like but then there was often something I didn’t like or it would just be very repetitive. For a while I had it on in the background while working and then it was fine, but when I was listening properly I found it largely boring and occasionally annoying. Fav song: No More Runnin Least fav: Guys Eyes
Liked it more than I thought I would when I first started listening - although there were a few songs I didn’t really like. Definitely one that grew on me on a second listen. Fav song: He Went Down to the Sea - also liked Monk Time and Love Came Tumblin’ Down Least fav: That’s My Girl
Really enjoyed this one. Thought the game show concept album thing was strange but fun. Some tracks I didn’t enjoy as much and sometimes the humour wasn’t my thing, but as a whole I liked it a lot. Fav song: Eye Know - might be partly because I really like the Steely Dan song it samples. Also liked (3 Is) The Magic Number and Transmitting Live From Mars
Not really my thing. There were some songs that I enjoyed and some I liked parts of. Found a lot of it repetitive - probably wouldn’t listen again but didn’t mind it as background noise while working. Fav song: If They Move Kill ‘Em Least fav: Motorhead
I really liked this album. I think it requires a bit of attention to get into it, but the more I listened the more I enjoyed it. There are definitely some moments where the experimentation doesn’t work for me, but overall I liked how atmospheric it was. A nice melancholy album with a few moments of levity. Spotify often tries to make me listen to Wilco and I’ve resisted. I think I needed to give the full album a focused listen to realise how much I liked it. Won’t skip them next time they show up in a playlist. Fav song: Radio Cure – also liked Jesus, Etc. and Heavy Metal Drummer Least fav: Reservations – (although of all the tracks on here it does feel like it should be the closer)
I understand why this album is on here, but I did not need to listen to it before I died. The only thing the songs have going for them is that they’re catchy - and all the catchiest songs I’ve already heard over and over on the radio. I should admit that I’m not really a pop person so I’m definitely not the target audience. I found the synths and drum tracks cheesy. I’m sure she can sing but they’ve done so much to her vocals it’s like they don’t think she can. The whole thing seemed overproduced. Didn’t feel like a single real emotion in the whole album. I’m not giving it a 1 because I will absolutely sing along to the catchy ones. I just don’t think being catchy is the same as being good. Fav song: Blank Space Least fav: How You Get The Girl
Fun album, managed to feel varied throughout. Would definitely listen again although I think it’s one where I need to be in the right mood. Fav song: London Calling - also liked Jimmy Jazz, The Card Cheat and Train in Vain Least fav: Koka Kola
Thought this album was gorgeous. I love his voice. I think the songs were sometimes a bit repetitive but I didn’t mind too much because I liked his voice so much. Fav song: Cry to Me Least fav: Won’t You Give Him (One More Chance)
Not really my thing. Could enjoy it a bit as background music but wouldn’t be something I would choose. Have found some of the songs getting stuck in my head a bit though. Fav song: Mansion Least fav: Couldn’t Get Ahead
Enjoyed this one more than I was expecting to. Some good songs but it felt a little too similar. Would be happy to hear the songs again but I’m not sure I’d deliberately relisten to the album. Fav song: Paranoid Least fav: Electric Funeral
Enjoyed the album, generally preferred the earlier tracks to the ballads but thought the vocals were great across the album. Fav song: Papa Was a Rollin’ Stone Least fav: Love Woke Me Up This Morning
Thought the album was fun, particularly the first song - made me want to dance. Not sure I would listen again though. Fav song: Chameleon Least fav: Sly
This one grew on me. I really didn’t like the first few tracks on my first listen, but I was enjoying the album by the end. I think I needed a little bit of familiarity to get into it, but I do just think those first couple tracks are my least favourite. Fav song: Living in Paradise - also liked Pump It Up, Little Triggers and Lip Service Least fav: No Action
Quite liked the album but it struggled to hold my attention the whole way through, think it felt a little too repetitive. Fav song: On a Rope Least fav: Middle
This is not my favourite Neil Young album, but reading the history behind it I can definitely feel the emotion in it. With that in mind I think it’s a really stunning album, but one I’ll probably only revisit when I need to wallow in some bad feelings. Fav song: Albuquerque Least fav: World on a String
A strange album, but to me it was an enjoyable kind of strange. Probably not something I would listen to again but I liked the fantasy vibes. Fav song: The Keeper of Time Least fav: The Wolf of Velvet Fortune
I loved the energy on this album - a really great live album. Sometimes the songs feel a little bit too similar, but I still really enjoyed it. Fav song: Jackson Least fav: Cocaine Blues
Not really my thing. I liked some of the sampling and some of the beats but I generally found it a bit busy and I didn’t enjoy their voices. Fav song: Shadrach Least fav: The Sounds of Science
Found the squeaky noises painful and I wasn’t a fan of the weird vocals, but there were parts of the album that I did enjoy. Definitely not something I’ll listen to again though. Fav song: Assassins Least fav: 30,000 Monkies
Surprised by how much I liked this one. There were definitely parts I liked less but overall I really enjoyed it. Very fun to me that The Wizard is apparently about Gandalf (also, hello harmonica!) Fav song: Black Sabbath - I enjoy the way it builds up Least fav: Warning
Really liked some of the songs but I found a lot of it too similar. Would definitely listen to the tracks I like again but wouldn’t listen to the whole album. Fav song: Enter Sandman Least fav: The Struggle Within
Sometimes found the lyrics too repetitive, but enjoyed most of them and liked the instrumentation. Would listen again. Thought there was a good variation across the album. Fav song: The Denial Twist Least fav: Red Rain
Okay it’s not Rumours but it’s very very good. My main complaint is that it’s a bit long so feels like a bit much of a similar vibe. Still just a great album and one I’ll listen to again. Fav song: The Ledge - although there are a lot that could’ve been my fav. Least fav: Sara
Sort of enjoyed a few of the early tracks but then it started to become far too repetitive for me. A couple of the songs I found difficult to listen to all the way through. Found some fun to dance to, but wouldn’t listen to the album again. Fav song: Music Makes You Lose Control Least fav: From: Disco To: Disco
I was surprised that I already knew some of these songs. Really enjoyed the album, thought her voice was gorgeous and there was a nice range of tracks to keep it interesting. Fav song: Doo Wop (That Thing) Least fav: Everything Is Everything
This one was good to listen to while working and I imagine it’s also good for a bad mood. Enjoyed the album more than I was expecting to after the first song which was my least favourite. Fav song: Atlantic City - I also liked Open All Night and Reason to Believe Least fav: Nebraska
I liked how upbeat these songs were, but the introductions often made me think the songs would be different and then I would have preferred to hear the song the intros made me think was coming. I think for me the vocals didn’t feel like they matched the rest of the music. Still enjoyed it and the more I listened the less I felt jarred by the difference in their vocals to what I was expecting, but it did feel a bit repetitive/ the songs were quite similar. Fav song: We Got The Beat Least fav: Skidmarks On My Heart
Liked the album - sometimes found the songs a bit repetitive but I enjoyed the music and the vocals so it mostly didn’t bother me. Nice to have some references to where I grew up, gave it a bit of a nostalgic feeling.
I thought the early songs were upbeat and energetic and fun and the slower songs were just beautiful and really gave the space to show off his voice. Struggled to pic a favourite as I think it would be so mood dependent whether I would prefer a slower or more upbeat song. Not sure when I would reach for this as an album though as I think if you’re in the mood for one part you’re probably not in the mood for the other. Fav song: Let the Good Times Roll - also liked Don’t Let the Sun Catch You Crying Least fav: Tell Me You’ll Wait for Me
It felt like a lot of the songs were almost songs that would be my thing but there was always something else going on that made me not enjoy them. Fav song: Schizophrenia Least fav: Master-Dik
I liked this one a lot more on a second listen. I struggled a bit with the mix, I wanted to be able to hear the vocals more clearly, but the more I listened the less that bothered me. Some parts I really didn’t like on the first listen I started to enjoy on the second, or at least not hate and there were a lot of songs I liked the first time that I loved the second time. Fav song: The Jean Genie - also liked Drive in Saturday and Panic in Detroit Least fav: Aladdin Sane
I thought the album could do with being shorter and the intro wasn’t my thing, but my god there are some impressive tracks on here. I was listening to Crosstown Traffic and getting grumpy (I’m sorry I just don’t like that one) and then Voodoo Chile came on and blew my mind. Can’t believe some of my favourites were the super long tracks because my attention span is normally rubbish but I thought they were so good. Fav song: Voodoo Chile - also liked Gypsy Eyes, Rainy Day, Dream Away, 1983…(A Merman I Should Turn To Be) and All Along the Watch Tower Least fav: Crosstown Traffic
I quite liked this one. Felt like there was some decent variation between songs although some were definitely more my thing than others. Fav song: Girl from Mars Least fav: Darkside Lightside
Not really my genre. Enjoyed parts of it but often found the songs just too long and repetitive. Probably wouldn’t listen again but I did like it more than I initially thought I would. Fav song: Science Friction - this one and Kein Trink Wasser have bits in the melody that remind me of the soundtrack to sci-fi podcast Wolf 359 which is probably why I liked them. Least fav: Forever
Lots of songs on here I really enjoyed - a few I thought were too repetitive, but not enough to put me off the album. Fav song: Teenage Kicks - but if I try not to pick the one that’s most familiar, I also liked (She’s A) Runaround and Get Over You Least fav: Let’s Talk About Girls
Really enjoyed this album, I think I’m finding that I love 1960s Soul/R&B which is something I don’t think I would normally listen to. Loved the energy of the live recording and I really liked his voice. Fav song: Medley: It’s All Right / For Sentimental Reasons Least fav: Somebody Have Mercy
Listened to this while on a walk, initially in the sunshine. When it started to tip it down it didn’t initially compute with me because the music felt so sunny. Enjoyed it a lot but probably wouldn’t listen to the whole album through again. Fav song: Part III-Newport Up - Live Least fav: Part I-Festival Junction
I enjoyed this one. Some of the more experimental bits didn’t work for me but I thought overall it was fun and there was a good variation across the album. Fav song: My Back Pages - also liked It Happens Each Day and Everybody’s Been Burned Least fav: Thoughts and Words
Really enjoyed some of the songs, some were not my thing but I liked how they were playing around with different genres. Thought the cover of Norwegian Wood was fun too. Fav song: Sleep on the Left Side, also enjoyed Brimful of Asha, Good to Be on the Road Back Home Again and Funky Days Are Back Again Least fav: When the Light Appears Boy
Some of these songs were enjoyable but some were not my thing. Fun to listen to but probably not something I’ll listen to again. Fav song: Ghetto Soundwave Least fav: One Day
When I first listened I didn’t enjoy it as much as I had been expecting to. I found some of it a bit busy. I enjoyed the album a lot more on a second listen though. Fav song: One Rainy Wish - also liked Castles Made of Sand and If 6 Was 9 Least fav: Ain’t No Telling
I liked the songs individually but they all felt quite similar which meant listening to the album was a bit of a chore. Any of these songs would work really well on a moody playlist, but one after the other it just made me like them all less and want the album to end. For the same reason I struggled to pick a favourite and least favourite as they all felt very similar. Fav song: The Scientist - probably because it was most familiar to me Least fav: Amsterdam - but maybe just because it was the last one so I was always less engaged by then
I really enjoyed this album. Loved his voice, loved the instrumentation. For a few of the songs, there are other versions that I prefer, but it didn’t stop me from loving the album. Really struggled to pick a fav because I enjoyed the whole thing so much. Fav song: A Change Is Gonna Come Least fav: Shake
Thought this was fine. Some of the songs were enjoyable enough but I found some a bit boring. Probably just not really my thing. Fav song: Isolation Least fav: Love
Enjoyed this one a lot more than I thought I was going to. The tracks were fun and had a good energy. None of the songs stood out to me though, which made it hard to pick a favourite. Fav song: Scare Crow Least fav: Jesus Built My Hotrod - people were raving about this one in the reviews but I found the vocals on it annoying.
This album was a lot of fun. A lot of songs I hadn’t heard before plus Killer Queen which I love. A couple of the songs were a little forgettable but it didn’t stop me from loving the album as a whole. Fav song: Killer Queen - also loved Flick Of The Wrist, Lily Of The Valley and Stone Cold Crazy Least fav: She Makes Me (Stormtrooper in Stilettos)
I liked it but it just failed to grab me for some reason. Was enjoyable as a background listen but just nothing really stood out. Because of this I also struggled to pick a favourite and least favourite song. I found them all pretty enjoyable. Fav song: TVC15 Least fav: Station to Station
It’s definitely weird but I really liked it. Occasionally it got too weird for me but for the most part I was on board with its particular kind of strange. I liked the varied instrumentation and I liked the vocals even though I know they aren’t everyone’s cup of tea. Fav song: Free Will And Testament Least fav: The Duchess
Enjoyed it a lot as an album but none of the individual tracks stood out to me that much. Don’t know if I was just not in the right mood, cos it sounded like my sort of thing. Will probably come back to this because I did enjoy and felt like I wasn’t giving it the best chance. Fav song: Disarm Least fav: Hummer
Definitely something I have to be in the right mood for, but this reminded me why I used to listen to this kind of music when I was younger. A bit angsty but also fun. Not something I would reach for everyday, but enjoyable when you’re in the right space for it. Also liked the way it mellowed a bit as the album went on, felt like it kept it varied. Fav song: Sulfur Least fav: Butcher’s Hook
Liked the variation through the album. Wasn’t a big fan of the interludes. Really enjoyed some of the songs but others weren’t really my thing. Wouldn’t listen again as an album but there are some tracks I would keep listening to. Fav song: Ms Jackson - also liked Gasoline Dreams and Spaghetti Junction Least fav: We Luv Deez Hoez
The quieter style of the album compared to a lot of the others on the list meant it took me a while to get into it, but listening again I really liked it. One for a quiet day, sitting and feeling your feelings. Fav song: 2:45AM Least fav: Cupid’s Trick
Very good protest album, thought a lot of the songs and the inserts were really powerful. Some of the tracks weren’t my thing, but there were some I really enjoyed. Wikipedia says it samples Predator 2 which I haven’t seen - would be interesting to relisten having seen that. Fav song: When Will They Shoot? Least fav: Don’t Trust ‘Em
Initially really didn’t like this one. Warmed up to it on a second listen, think I partly needed the familiarity but also think I don’t like the first few tracks very much. Once I get further in I find the tracks fun. Fav song: Return the Gift Least fav: Ether
Some very strange lyrics but enjoyable songs. Took me a bit to get into but then I liked it. Maybe not an album I’ll go back to but if any of the songs came on I would be happy to listen to them. Fav song: Princess of the Streets Least fav: Ugly
I thought a lot of the songs were enjoyable but they often had parts I didn’t like as much. Wasn’t a fan of the skits between tracks. I liked that the songs had moments that called back to each other. Fun to listen to but probably not something I’ll listen to again. Fav song: No Women, No Cry Least fav: How Many Mics
Fun to listen to music referenced in Goths(2017). Was surprised by how much I enjoyed this. I found the lyrics a bit repetitive at times but I liked her voice and the instrumentation. Now I’ve got to listen to Abandoned Flesh again. Fav song: Monitor Least fav: Halloween
It almost feels like something I’d like and then just isn’t and I’m not sure why. Liked it more on a second listen but I’m not sure that was enough to bump it to a 3. Idk I had a bad day at work so maybe I just wasn’t in the mood for it but I was trying to think of a favourite song and really struggled to pick one I liked. Fav song: Chapel Hill Least fav: Nic Fit
Quite liked it but it didn’t stand out to me very much. Nice to have on in the background but didn’t feel particularly memorable. Fav song: Gasoline Alley Least fav: You’re My Girl (I Don’t Want To Discuss It)
Found this weird for sure. Not sure if I’m not a fan of the first couple songs or if it just takes me those couple songs to get used to the version of weird this one is. Once I’m past those two I really like it. Definitely something I would listen to again. Fav song: Space is Gonna do me Good - there were a lot I liked so not sure if this is the favourite but it’s the one standing out to me atm Least fav: Whatever Happened to Pong?
I really enjoyed a few songs on the album and then unfortunately really didn’t like the others. I found a few a bit too similar, and there were some where I wasn’t a fan of the music itself, but I would have enjoyed the album as a whole more if it wasn’t so awful about women. Fav song: Express Yourself Least fav: 8 Ball - Remix
Found the beginning of the album didn’t grab me but once it gets going it’s just so good. Don’t really know how to pick a fave song between The Great Gig in the Sky and Money, I think it depends on my mood, but Money has been stuck in my head all day so I’ll go with that. Fav song: Money Least fav: Speak to Me
Really enjoyed this album. Felt like a real variation in vocal styles across the songs but I liked all of it. The little instrumental bits were fun too. One I would listen to again. Fav song: Beautiful - also liked Darkness, Darkness, Sunlight, Quicksand and Sham Least fav: Trillium
Took a while to get into - work was loud and the songs are quite gentle. Warmed up to it on a second listen and ended up really enjoying it. Doesn’t include my favourite of their songs but still a really good album. I like the storytelling and the vocals and actually really enjoy how gentle it mostly is. Fav song: Feeling Yourself Disintegrate Least fav: The Gash
It’s not going to be possible to divorce this one from my nostalgia. There was a while when this was the album we had in the car. My dad used to turn the volume up really loud because Starlings starts so quiet and then the loud parts would startle the rest of us. I still think about that every time I listen to that song. I still listen to this album quite a lot. I love his voice, I love how evocative the lyrics are, I think the music is beautiful. Definitely quite slow with a lot of space, but really good for just sitting with emotions. I’ve picked a fav and least fav song but I like all the songs and I think those picks are just based on my mood today. Fav song: Grounds for Divorce Least fav: Weather to Fly
I enjoyed the music but as an album I found it a bit much of the same thing. Still, liked it more than I expected to and would maybe listen again, although I’d be more likely to listen to individual songs than the whole album. Fav song: Stop That Train Least fav: All Day All Night
Some songs I really liked, some I thought were quite good, then some I didn’t like. Feels like there’s a really good album in here if it was just edited down. Wouldn’t listen to the full album again but I’d definitely relisten to the good songs from it. I did actually quite enjoy some of the instrumental tracks at the end, but thought it was odd to have an alt take of My Sweet Lord - feels like that should be on a deluxe version - unless the remastered version has more tracks? (I know there’s a deluxe version too) Fav song: My Sweet Lord Least fav: It’s Johnny’s Birthday
Some really beautiful songs but it needed me to be in a particular headspace to really enjoy it. When I could get into it I really liked it and then I’d try to listen at other times and just couldn’t get into it. I would definitely listen again when in the right mood though, I do think the songs are lovely. Fav song: Nude Least fav: Videotape
I liked this more than I was expecting too. The songs were long but I enjoyed the way they changed as they progressed. Couldn’t face the super deluxe version though. The regular album I liked all the songs and would listen again. Fav song: Yours Is No Disgrace Least fav: A Venture
I know people don’t like his voice but I find it almost comforting - it might just be a familiarity thing? I like the style of these songs, they feel warm but not too complicated. Wouldn’t be my go to album of his, but I did enjoy it. Fav song: The Partisan Least fav: Seems So Long Ago, Nancy
I really liked this album. I think her voice is gorgeous and the songs manage to show it off in different ways. Will definitely listen again. I think at the moment my favourites are just the ones I was already familiar with, so will be nice to become more familiar with the rest. Fav song: Down To Zero Least fav: Somebody Who Loves You
Liked the beats, liked the instrumentation and vocals on some of the tracks - although there were a few with weird breathing noises I didn’t like. Some songs I would listen to again but as a whole it’s not really my thing. Fav song: It’s Tricky Least fav: Dumb Girl
Thought her voice was amazing and the songs were nice and varied if occasionally a bit cheesy. Would definitely listen again. Fav song: Too Soon To Tell Least fav: I Ain’t Gonna Let You Break My Heart Again
Really enjoyed this one. Already knew a few of the songs, but nice to hear the ones I didn’t know. Loved the guitar, liked that the vocals varied and were sometimes softer then got more intense. Very fun (although nonsensical)LotR reference. Fav song: Ramble On Least fav: Moby Dick
Not really my thing. Some of the songs were fun, some sounded like the music that’s always playing in the back of YouTube videos. Enjoyed some of the samples and some of the beats but probably wouldn’t listen again. Found the one that sampled the sermon quite funny though. Fav song: Destroy Rock & Roll Least fav: Sunworshipper
Really enjoyed this one. Lots of songs I really liked although definitely some I thought it could do without. Still manages to feel varied, although there are points where it feels like a little much of the same thing. Fav song: Houses of the Holy - also liked Kashmir and Ten Years Gone Least fav: Black Country Woman
Some songs in here I really liked but they’re surrounded by so many less enjoyable songs. Another of those that could be a really strong album if it were cut down. Fav song: Blackbird Least fav: Revolution 9
This one didn’t make much of an impression on me tbh. I enjoyed it while it was playing and then afterwards couldn’t remember much about listening to it. Really struggling to have an opinion on it, which is odd cos there’s nothing I object to when listening? Maybe it’s just the headspace I was in. My one real thought is that Home Tonight works really well as the end of the album. Fav: Sick As A Dog Least fav: Get The Lead Out
Just not my thing. There were moments that I enjoyed but even the songs with elements I liked I found too repetitive. It’s not an album I would listen to again. Fav song: Don’t Go Nowhere Least fav: The Rake
Actually quite liked this one. Don’t think I would listen again but as background music while I was working I enjoyed it. Fav song: Stem/Long Stem Medley Least fav: Napalm Brain/Scatter Brain Medley
Got part way through this album and realised I knew a lot of the songs on it. Nice to be reminded of songs I haven’t listened to in a long time, and I enjoyed the songs I hadn’t heard before. Appreciated that there was a mix of slower songs and more intense songs - I really like the slow songs but I think a whole album full of them would be too much. Fav song: The Mess We’re In Least fav: Big Exit
I really enjoyed this one. Knew a few of the songs before but had never listened to the album. Would definitely listen again. Maybe a tad similar to each other but it’s a short album so that didn’t really bother me. Fav song: Take Me Out - also liked Fire and Michael Least fav: Cheating On You
Gorgeous album. I wasn’t expecting it to be so political - I only knew Fast Car which is obviously also political but not as overtly I guess. I already knew her voice was fantastic, but I was surprised by the other songs. Loved it. Will definitely listen again. Fav song: Talkin’ Bout A Revolution - also liked Why? and Fast Car Least fav: She’s Got Her Ticket
Really liked this one. Felt like a nice variety. I liked the vocal style and I’m a big fan of brass and strings. Fav song: Red Dress Least fav: Lover’s Day
Definitely a lot of nostalgia for some of the songs on this album, but as a whole it dragged. Just too many similar songs for me. I think a lot of them could be good on a playlist with a specific mood, but I wouldn’t want to listen to the album again. Will always be fond of the songs I already knew though. Fav song: Yellow Least fav: Sparks
I like how this is constructed as an album, how the songs lead into each other and how it all builds to the butterfly / caterpillar bit at the end. I appreciate that it brings in a lot of different styles, some of that worked for me and some of it didn’t. I probably wouldn’t listen again but I can definitely see why it’s here and I enjoyed listening to it. Fav song: Momma Least fav: For Free?
I really like her voice and some of it is quite fun but it’s just not really my thing. Didn’t mind it as a background listen but on a more focused listen there was just a bit too much I didn’t vibe with. Fav song: The Anchor Song Least fav: Violently Happy
The rest of the album doesn’t live up to Take On Me but it’s a lot of fun. Not a whole lot of variety, but I had a nice time listening to it. Fav song: Take On Me Least fav: And You Tell Me
I liked this one. The album was long but there was decent variety. I liked his voice and I liked the contrast with the more upbeat songs and the slower songs. I’m not sure I would listen to the full thing again but I can definitely see myself listening to some of the songs. Fav song: Answering Bell Least fav: Sylvia Plath
I really liked this one. Didn’t appreciate it much on a first listen but on a second listen it grew on me. Occasionally found the lyrics a bit repetitive but I enjoyed the instrumentation and the vocal style. The Monkees reference made me laugh. Fav song: Old Friends, New Lovers Least fav: Hollywood Kids
Smoke On The Water is a classic. The rest of the album was enjoyable but I came away from it not feeling compelled to listen again. I can appreciate the craft and I had a nice time listening but just not something I’m particularly drawn to. Fav song: Smoke On The Water Least fav: Highway Star
Really liked this one. Thought it was a good listen, liked the singing, liked the instrumentation. Think it ran a little long but I would definitely listen again. Fav song: Layla Least fav: Have You Ever Loved A Woman?
The only song I already knew from this album was This Woman’s Work - which I really liked. I expected to enjoy the rest of the album but it just wasn’t really my thing. Might partly be because I was expecting something different. I love her voice, I just didn’t really vibe with the album. Fav song: This Woman’s Work Least fav: The Fog
I found the songs all a bit too similar and the lyrics a bit repetitive. It was fine to have on but didn’t stand out to me. Fav song: Hoover Dam Least fav: A Good Idea
I quite liked it. Not sure I would listen again but I had fun listening - nice and energetic without being too much. Fav song: Peace Sells Least fav: Devils Island
I liked this one a lot more than the other Depeche Mode album we’ve had - might just be because I was more familiar with this one. But I think this one just has melodies that I like better and lyrics that were more engaging. Fav song: Enjoy the Silence Least fav: Sweetest Perfection
I liked this one more than the last Radiohead album. Possibly just because I knew more of the songs. I really enjoyed it, but I think I do have to be in the right mood for it. Or at least for the ones I’m less familiar with, I think the songs I know well I could maybe listen to at any time. Fav song: High and Dry Least fav: Planet Telex
Some real classics in here. There were a few songs that I thought were a bit similar and dragged a little, but overall I really liked the album. So many songs that I knew but hadn’t sat down to properly listen to before so that was nice. Fav song: Where You Lead Least fav: Beautiful
Enjoyed this one and liked the energy of it being a live album. The songs were a bit too similar and the lyrics were often a bit repetitive for me. It was fun to listen to, but maybe not one I’d return to. Fav song: Soon Forgotten Least fav: Tiger In Your Tank
Enjoyed this album a lot. A couple songs I knew before but most I didn’t. Felt like a good variety of songs, a lot of energy but with a couple that were a bit slower. I would definitely listen to it again. Fav song: When the Levee Breaks Least fav: The Battle of Evermore
This wasn’t what I was expecting, only really knowing Superstition going into it. The rest of the album had a pretty different vibe to that song and I didn’t enjoy it as much. There were a few I thought were fun but overall it wasn’t really my thing. Fav song: Superstition Least fav: You’ve Got It Bad Girl
I thought this one was fun but maybe a bit repetitive for me. I enjoyed some of the tracks but found it went on a bit long and a few of the songs were too similar. I liked the sampling and the beats. Fav song: Good Newz Comin’ Least fav: J. Beez Comin’ Through
I liked this one. Has the thing that all the Beatles albums I’ve listened to so far has where I really like some songs and I think other songs are not good. At least with this one the tracks I didn’t like as much felt more average rather than actively bad. And they’re made up for by some songs I really enjoyed. The first song makes me angry though, unless there’s some history I’m missing, you’re the Beatles you can fucking pay your taxes. Fav song: Eleanor Rigby Least fav: Love You To
Obviously knew a few of these songs, but what I learned from listening to the full album is that I’m not a huge fan of the vocal style, even on the tracks I really liked. Still, really enjoyed Sex on Fire and Use Somebody. Liked some of the other songs but as a whole I probably wouldn’t listen to the album again. Most of it felt fine as background music but outside of the ones I already knew, it just didn’t interest me that much. Fav song: Use Somebody Least fav: 17
I enjoyed this one. It was fun but didn’t make a huge impact on me. I liked the instrumentation and it felt nice and varied but I’m not sure I would go back and listen to the whole album. Fav song: Africano Least fav: All About Love (First Impression)
I really liked this one. It was a bit strange at times, but good strange. A few of the songs weren’t for me, but overall I enjoyed it a lot. Common People is a great song, and there were a few others I knew but it was cool to hear some of their songs that I hadn’t heard before. I would probably listen to this again although I think I’d have to be in the right mood for it. Fav song: Common People Least fav: I Spy
I really enjoyed this album. I thought it was strange how a lot of the songs seemed to change so much partway through, but I liked it. Loved the instrumentation. Occasionally thought some of the songs were a bit too long or repetitive, but overall I enjoyed it and would listen again. Fav song: Victoria Least fav: Drivin’
It’s not really my thing but some of it was fine as background music. Occasionally there were noises that were actively unpleasant to listen to which I could’ve done without. But other than those parts it was fine to listen to while I was working. I wouldn’t put it on deliberately though. Fav song: Kometenmelodie 2 Least fav: Morgenspaziergang
Conflicted on this one because there were some songs I really liked and some I really didn’t, but I did like the overall mood of the album. Maybe enough to forgive some of the songs I didn’t like. I think I would maybe listen to the album again if I was in the right mood and I’ll definitely keep listening to the songs I enjoyed. Fav song: Everything In Its Right Place Least fav: The National Anthem
The rest of the album doesn’t live up to Tiny Dancer. It was fun enough to listen to but nothing really stuck with me and I probably wouldn’t listen again. Tiny Dancer is so good though. Fav song: Tiny Dancer Least fav: Indian Sunset
Thought this one was a lot fun. Nothing in it really stood out to me, but there wasn’t anything I didn’t like either. Some nice upbeat, enjoyable music. Fav song: Band On The Run Least fav: Bluebird
I knew a few of the songs off this album already, but really enjoyed the rest of it. Thought there was enough variation to stay interesting throughout and I also just really liked the style. Would definitely listen again. Fav song: Way Over Yonder In The Minor Key Least fav: Hoodoo Voodoo
I only really knew Come On Eileen and the rest wasn’t what I was expecting but I enjoyed it. Not something I would go for everyday but it was fun to listen to and I felt like there was a good variation across the album. Fav song: Come On Eileen Least fav: Plan B
Thought there was a lot of variation in this one. Not all of it was my thing but there were some songs I really liked and overall I enjoyed the album. Not sure I would come back to it, but I had a nice enough time listening. Fav song: My Ever Changing Moods Least fav: A Gospel
I knew a few of these already. Thought the music was enjoyable, especially the tracks I didn’t already know. The album managed to be quite atmospheric which I liked. My main complaint is that some of the songs dragged on a bit too long, especially the slower ones, but overall I enjoyed it. Fav song: Walk Of Life Least fav: Ride Across The River
I really like this album. I already knew a few of the songs and the ones I already knew are still my favourites but it was nice to listen to the rest of the album. I enjoy the style a lot and would definitely listen again. Fav song: Helplessly Hoping Least fav: Song with No Words
I like the style of these but by the end of the album it felt like too much of the same thing. Would listen to the songs again but probably not the whole album in one go. I did enjoy the atmosphere and the instrumentation, just found it better in small doses. Fav song: The Wild Ones Least fav: This Hollywood Life
Not really my thing. I found the music quite nice actually, I liked the soul influences and samples. I just didn’t enjoy the vocals, both the style of the vocals and the lyrics. Fav song: The Ruler’s Back Least fav: Girls, Girls, Girls
Quite a nice collection of Christmas songs. Some enjoyable versions of some classic songs. But a Christmas album is just never going to be my thing. Fav song: Sleigh Ride Least fav: Parade of the Wooden Soldiers
Liked this one. Some fun songs including some I already knew. Think I maybe preferred it to the other Dire Straits album we’ve had. Fav song: Sultans of Swing Least fav: Six Blade Knife
Found this a little strange but a good kind of strange. The instrumentation was varied, I thought the flute was fun and I enjoyed that it had a mix of intense songs and gentler ones. Fav song: Locomotive Breath Least fav: Cross-Eyed Mary
Just a lovely gentle album full of quite nice covers. I had a really nice time listening and would definitely listen again for a chill vibe or as background music. Fav song: All of Me Least fav: Unchained Melody
This one definitely took a few listens to get into. His voice and style of singing make it not immediately accessible, but what I found initially off-putting I eventually started to find enjoyable. Thought the instrumentation was really lovely and the lyrics were compelling. Fav song: Simple Twist of Fate Least fav: Meet Me in the Morning
Very strange album. I probably won’t listen to again but it was interesting. I liked the bluesy style and a lot of the songs had elements I enjoyed paired with some stuff that made it weird. Some songs were just too odd for me but a few were nice enough on their own. All in all a weird experience I won’t repeat. Fav song: Trouble Every Day - also liked Go Cry On Somebody Else’s Shoulder Least fav: It Can’t Happen Here
I enjoyed the style of this one but found it a bit repetitive after a while. Still, I liked a lot of the songs and would probably listen to the album again. Fav song: Jeremy - probably largely because this is the one I was most familiar with already Least fav: Why Go
I enjoyed this one. The music was fun, although the lyrics were occasionally a bit repetitive. I liked the inclusion of the live track at the end. Overall a good, energetic vibe. Fav song: Living After Midnight Least fav: Grinder
Blitzkrieg Bop is a bop. I enjoyed the energy of the album and how fast paced it was, but the lyrics largely sucked. Repetitive because all the songs sounded similar (which was sort of fine cos it’s so short), but also repetitive because most songs were just repeating a handful of lines over and over. I know that it has had a big cultural impact and I can see what people like about it, but it wasn’t my thing. Fav song: Blitzkrieg Bop Least fav: Loudmouth
Thought this album was a lot of fun. Loved the folk-punk vibes. I understand not liking his voice but I thought it fit the style. Was jarring to hear Fairytale of New York now it’s January, but felt like a nice change after the first 3 songs. By the end of the album I’d maybe had enough, but overall I really enjoyed it. Fun to hear some Irish folk standards as well, especially Rocky Road to Dublin. Fav song: If I Should Fall From Grace With God - also liked Fairytale of New York, Medley: The Recruiting Sargeant/The Rocky Road to Dublin/The Galway Races and The Irish Rover Least fav: Worms
The whole “both sides are bad thing” gets on my nerves. There were moments where I liked the lyrics or thought it was funny, but as a whole I found the album grating. Idk even when it’s satire I don’t want to sit through all that noise. And I really didn’t like all the whispery bits, but that’s just a me thing. Fav song: What’s The Ugliest Part of Your Body? Least fav: Nasal Retentive Calliope Music
Was surprised to know some of the songs on this album. Very much the sort of music I listened to when I was younger, not sure if I would listen again, but I had a nice time listening now. I really liked his voice and felt there was a nice variation across the album. Fave song: Black Hole Sun Least fav: Mailman
Not something I would normally put on, but I really enjoyed it. Just really good vibes. Good background music while I was working, and maybe something I’ll return to as background music in the future. Also reminded me of the music at a coffee shop near my house where my dad keeps commenting on the music being good. Fav song: Take Five Least fav: Everybody’s Jumpin’
It took me a bit to get used to her voice, but once I was used to it I really liked it. Think she gets a lot of emotion across and I really enjoyed the vibe of the album. Probably one I will listen to again now I know what to expect. Fav song: Dress Least fav: Victory
Not really my thing. There were times I found it interesting but by the end I was pretty bored of it. Might be okay in the background, or in small doses but I wouldn’t listen to the full album again. Fav song: Despair Least fav: All Tomorrow’s Parties
I’ll Be Your Mirror is on a playlist that my friend Rowan made when we were feeling very normal about the same fictional characters. Impossible for me to divorce this album from those feelings. The very beginning of The Black Angel’s Death song kept making me think the album had ended and it was playing an early mountain goats track (only for the very beginning). There are tracks I don’t like as much, but I do really like this album. Fav song: I’ll Be Your Mirror - there might be other songs I would prefer if I spent longer with the album but I’m very fond of this one. Least fav: European Son
I like his voice and I like the energy from it being a live show but I didn’t enjoy it as much as I thought I would. Honestly I think that’s 80% due to Lost Someone. There’s are some moments in it that really show off his voice, but for the most part it’s boring. I imagine it was exciting to see live, and it is fun to hear some of the interactions with the crowd. But the instrumentation just gets really dull and it seems to go on forever and take the pace out of the album. I liked the rest of it more but I’m not sure I’d listen again. Fav song: Try Me Least fav: Lost Someone
Enjoyed this but definitely prefer CSN/CSNY. I liked the style but nothing particularly caught my attention. A nice album to have listened to, but not one I’d reach for over his group stuff. Fav song: Love the One You’re With Least fav: Sit Yourself Down
Faith is a tune. The rest of the album doesn’t live up to it. There are a couple of other songs I quite liked. The rest was either too strange or too repetitive for me. Fun to listen to but not something I’ll come back to. Fav song: Faith Least fav: Monkey
There were some fun, catchy moments but overall not really my thing. A lot of songs that I enjoyed the beginning of and then got bored by how repetitive they were. Interesting as an experiment, but not something I think I’ll listen to again. Fav song: 19-2000 - gets very stuck in my head but it is also too repetitive. Also liked the beginning of M1 A1 with the horror movie music and the building guitar but then it builds to such a nothing song Least fav: Sound Check (Gravity)
Liked this one more than I was expecting to. Not sure I have that much to say about it though. Good energy and a nice variation but I’m not sure I’m drawn to listen to it again. Fav song: Phantom of the Opera Least fav: Charlotte the Harlot
Already knew a lot of the songs but hadn’t listened to the full album. Came home with Basket Case stuck in my head so then my partner started singing it and we were just singing all the Green Day songs we knew whilst cooking dinner. Anyway, as an album it gets a bit samey but I had a great time listening to it and feeling nostalgic. Fav song: Basket Case Least fav: Sassafras Roots
I really liked this one. I liked his voice, I liked the style. Some good sitting with an emotion music. Think I’ll keep listening to it. What a nice little surprise. Fav song: Burning Least fav: The Haunting Idle
Spotify often puts Rufus Wainwright on daily mixes for me - so I guess that tells you the kind of music I listen to. I don’t know why I’ve never listened to a full album of his before. Really enjoyed this. I liked the storytelling in the songs. Felt like there was a good variation across the album. Even my least favourite songs were still songs I really liked. Fav song: The Art Teacher - also liked This Love Affair and Gay Messiah (I’d definitely heard Gay Messiah before so that’s even more insight into the rest of my music) Least fav: Agnus Dei
Really liked this one. Think all the collaborations are really fun. Just a good time. A good mix across the album which is helped by all the different people on it. His voice is really nice. Fav song: I’m In The Mood Least fav: My Dream
I love this album. Grew up listening to Neil Young. A bunch of the songs on this album were on the mix we had in the car for a long time when I was young. His voice is definitely not to everyone’s taste but I love it. Some really good music with a nice variation of style I think - although I’m definitely biased by nostalgia. Fav song: Heart of Gold - also liked Harvest, Old Man, The Needle and the Damage Done Least fav: There’s a World - I do love the instrumentation on this one, it just feels likely a slightly odd fit.
Felt very varied. It was a fun listen, there was some stuff I liked and some I didn’t, but at least it stayed interesting. Probably wouldn’t listen again though. Fav song: Alright - Also liked Sitting Up Straight and Time Least fav: We’re Not Supposed To
This one wasn’t my thing. There are some bops, but even then they’re songs I would sing along to if they were on but not ones I would seek out. It gets very religious towards the end which isn’t my thing, although I do like the singing on the gospel medley. Other than the classics it just feels like a lot of songs that don’t stand out and feel pretty dated. The combined mix of “girl power” and being really shitty about other women makes for an uncomfortable listen as well. Fav song: Bootylicious Least fav: Nasty Girl (what a crazy song to put right after Bootylicious)
Surprised by how many of these I knew. Thought the music was fun but the screaming was a bit much on some of the tracks. Had a nice time listening but I’m not sure I’d listen again. Fav song: Roll Over Beethoven Least fav: Psycho
Mostly found this boring with some moments that I just didn’t like. There were parts that were okay as background music but it just wasn’t my thing. Fav song: Aladdin’s Story Least fav: Aisha
I think her voice was lovely and the music was nice but as an overall album it failed to make an impression on me. It just felt like all the songs were the same. Nice on their own but I wouldn’t listen to the album again. But I might just not have been in the right mood. Fav song: Heaven or Las Vegas Least fav: Pitch the Baby (I think. Really struggled to pick a fav and least fav)
Liked this a lot more than I thought I would. Already knew a couple of the songs, which I was surprised by. There were some moments were it was just too repetitive for me, but overall I really enjoyed it. Crazy to get given this album on the day my partner left for New York for almost a month though. New York you’re definitely bringing me down. Fav song: All My Friends - also liked Someone Great and New York I Love You but You’re Bringing Me Down Least fav: Us V Them
This definitely wasn’t my thing although I can see what people might like about it. I liked some of the instrumentation but wasn’t a fan of the vocal style. Could have done without the screaming as well. Fav song: Ghost Rider Least fav: Frankie Teardrop
I liked this more than I was expecting to. It’s definitely not my usual genre and there are moments where it gets too synthy for me, but on the whole I really liked it. Fav song: How Can You Expect to Be Taken Seriously? Least fav: Only the Wind
Found this one pretty boring tbh. I quite liked the first song so I thought I’d enjoy it more than I did but it just felt pretty endless and was too whispery for me. Some other songs I liked but I wouldn’t listen to the album again. Fav song: Hell is Round The Corner Least fav: Ponderosa
Thought this was a beautiful album. I really enjoyed it. I liked the style of his singing, I liked the instrumentation. Just a really nice listen. Fav song: One Of These Things First Least fav: Bryter Layter
This is not what I thought Arcade Fire sounded like, but idk what I thought they sounded like or why. Was pleasantly surprised. I really enjoyed this album. I thought they captured a specific mood really well while still having a lot of variation to keep the album interesting. Would definitely listen again. Fav song: Ready To Start - also liked The Suburbs, Modern Man, City With No Children and Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains) Least fav: Empty Room
The first song felt a bit like a tv theme, and parts of it reminded me of the overture from Through This Fire Across From Peter Balkan. I enjoyed the rest of the album but started to find it a bit boring towards the end. Fav song: Birdland Least fav: Harlequin
It wasn’t as varied as the previous album of his that we had, but I liked the more minimalist arrangements. Really lets his voice and the guitar shine. Fav song: Place to Be Least fav: Know
My partner listens to Belle and Sebastian. He’s been away for a while so it was nice to listen to this and be reminded of him. Aside from that, I really enjoyed this album - reminded me of The Decemberists, especially If You’re Feeling Sinister. I like the soft style of the singing and I like the storytelling. Fav song: Get Me Away from Here, I’m Dying Least fav: The Boy Done Wrong Again
Occasionally found it repetitive, but on the whole I enjoyed it. Not necessarily something I would listen to again, but nice to have listened to. Fav song: N.Y. State of Mind Least fav: One Love
This one was a lot of fun. There were some moments where it got too repetitive, even on the songs I enjoyed the most, but overall it was a good time. Liked the weird alien theme too. Fav song: Give Up the Funk (Tear the Roof off the Sucker) - also really liked P. Funk (Wants to Get Funked Up) Least fav: Night of the Thumpasorus Peoples
I really enjoyed this one. I thought her voice was lovely. Just some really nice folk music and there felt like a decent variation across the album. Fav song: Genesis Hall Least fav: A Sailor’s Life
There were parts of this that I liked but because it was split into such long tracks there were no songs that I enjoyed all the way through. I don’t think I would listen again but I didn’t hate it tbh, just wasn’t massively my thing. Fav song: Out-Bloody-Rageous Least fav: Slightly All The Time
I definitely preferred the last Velvet Underground album we had. There was some interesting stuff going on in this one, but I’m not sure I’d listen to it again. Fav song: White Light/White Heat Least fav: Here She Comes Now
I really enjoyed this one. I may not have understood the lyrics, but I really enjoyed the way they were sung and I loved the guitar. I really liked the energy of the songs. Fav song: Petit Metier Least fav: Wayei
I quite liked the style but none of the songs really stood out to me. Didn’t mind it as background listening but I’m not drawn to listen to the full album again. Fav song: How to Handle a Rope Least fav: I Was a Teenage Hand Model
This also didn’t really impress me. It was fine to listen to and it was fun to listen to the different versions, but other than that it didn’t leave much of an impression. Struggled to pick a favourite and least favourite because it felt pretty similar to me. Fav song: Search and Destroy Least fav: Shake Appeal
I really enjoyed this one. Thought it was very atmospheric. I liked the style of it a lot and could definitely see myself listening to it again. Fav song: The Killing Moon - also liked Seven Seas and My Kingdom Least fav: Thorn of Crowns
I wasn't a huge fan of the vocal style, but I thought the instrumentation was very fun. Shame about the album cover and New Delhi. My general experience of this album was that I still really enjoyed the songs I already knew, and the rest I probably wouldn't listen to again. Fav song: Our House Least fav: New Delhi
Liked this one more than I was expecting to. Thought I might get tired of the style before the end of the album, but there was enough variation to keep me interested the whole way. Not sure if I'll return to it, but I did enjoy it. Fav song: Only Happy When it Rains Least fav: As Heaven Is Wide
Thought it was enjoyable. I liked a lot of the songs but they often had extra elements that I didn't like as much. Would probably listen to some of the songs again but not the whole album. Fav song: Everyday People Least fav: Sex Machine
I liked this a lot. I think there were a few that kind of blended together for me, but overall I really enjoyed it. I liked the mix of the softer and the more intense singing. Fav song: Big Me - also liked This Is a Call, Floaty and For All the Cows Least fav: Weenie Beenie
Really liked this one. Angry and noisy but with enough melody to keep me interested. I liked how raw her voice was, I think it worked with the intensity of the songs. Fav song: Doll Parts Least fav: Gutless
The rest of the album was not what I was expecting after the first song. I really enjoyed it though. Thought the singing was lovely and the instrumentation was really fun. Fav song: God Bless the Child Least fav: Smiling Phases
I like the quiet-loud-quiet thing, I enjoy the contrast between the rougher, screamier singing and the more melodic parts. Not such a fan of the lyrics for some of the songs. Fav song: Heart-Shaped Box Least fav: Rape Me
I enjoyed this album. It was fun and interesting although I found a few of the songs a bit similar. I definitely enjoyed the beginning of the album more than the end of it, but I could see myself listening to the whole album again. Fav song: Cities Least fav: Drugs
Loved the singing, liked a lot of the music but some of it got a bit too weird or a bit too repetitive for me. Fav song: Who Says a Funk Band Can’t Play Rock? Least fav: Promentalshitbackwashpsychosis Enema Squad (The Doo Doo Chasers)
Really liked this album. Quite slow but managed to stay interesting. I know this version of These Days was the first one recorded, but I'm more familiar with Jackson Browne's own recording of it which is on the playlist my dad made for my mum for her birthday one year. Really liked this version though. I loved the strings throughout despite Nico not wanting them on the album - tbh I quite liked the flute too (even if it was a little much at times) but it does seem crazy to add flute against someone's wishes. Fav song: These Days - also liked The Fairest Of The Seasons and I'll Keep It With Mine Least Fav: It Was A Pleasure Then
Not sure I would listen to this one again but I did quite like it as background music. Gets a bit weird at times, but on the whole I enjoyed it. Just didn't stand out enough for me to think I'll come back to it. Fav song: Jane Says Least fav: Pigs in Zen
Enjoyed this one. The vocals occasionally weren't too my taste but I did like them on most tracks. Felt varied and fun. Would listen again. Fav song: Where Is My Mind? - also liked Gigantic Least fav: Something Against You
Really enjoyed it. Like with At Folsom Prison, I really loved the energy and his interactions with the crowd. There's a bit where he stumbles over one of the lines because he's caught off guard by the response to the previous line - I think it's a great moment. Also just really like his voice and would like the songs on their own, but the energy of the crowd improves the experience. Fav song: San Quentin Least fav: Wreck of the Old 97
I find it fun that the first half is acoustic and the second is electric and it opens with the acoustic My My, Hey Hey (Out of the Blue) and closes with the electric Hey Hey, My My (Into the Black). I think I prefer the first half but I like that it has both. I love Neil Young's music and this album is no exception. I love his voice, I think there's a nostalgic element to that for me because I grew up listening to him. Couple of tracks on here that I wasn't such a fan of, but it was still a great album. Fav song: My My, Hey Hey (Out of the Blue) Least fav: Welfare Mothers
Really enjoyed this as background music. Good to listen to on the tube while reading my book. Did mean I wasn't paying a lot of attention to the individual songs either time I listened to it. Not sure if I would listen again, but I might return to it if I need to focus on something and want background music playing. Fav song: Stars Least fav: Groove St. - Smokers Delight Original Version
Loved this album. Was already familiar with a few of the songs because my dad is a huge John Martyn fan, but the songs I didn't know were jazzier than I was expecting. Really enjoyed it. I think the ones I already knew remain my favourites, but I would listen to the full album again. There's some gorgeous guitar on this album and I love his voice. Fav song: May You Never Least fav: I'd Rather Be The Devil (Devil Got My Woman)
I was surprised by Ice Cream Man, but thought it was a nice addition, meant there was some variation and it kept the album interesting. Really enjoyed it and would probably listen again, some great guitar playing and some fun songs. Fav song: You Really Got Me - I think that's a familiarity thing though. If I kept listening I might pick a different favourite. Least fav: Atomic Punk
Enjoyed this. Really liked the music. I enjoyed the vocals although it occasionally was a little too raspy for me. I found the songs a little repetitive at times, but had a good time overall. Fav song: Turtle Blues Least fav: Ball and Chain
I liked this more than I was expecting to. Enjoyed the music but I wasn't a big fan of his vocal style. I don't think I would listen to it again, I find the singing too difficult to listen to, but I did enjoy some of the songs. Fav song: (Pa) Ubu Dance Party Least fav: Codex
My partner and I have a shared playlist on Spotify which I “ruined” when I started this project. He recently made a static version with his favourite songs that used to come up on it. He sent it to a friend who enjoyed it but "noticed a running theme [...] we both like bands with male singers who can’t really sing.” On a completely unrelated note, I loved this album. I thought this one worked a bit better with his voice than Blood on the Tracks but I think I prefer the songs on that album – maybe because they’re so sad, maybe because they're folkier. My biggest complaint with the album is the whistle sound on Highway 61 Revisited. Other than that I really liked it. The harmonica is maybe a little intense at times, but I love the harmonica. I hadn't listened to much Bob Dylan before this project, most of his songs I knew from other people singing them, but I will definitely keep listening. Fav song: Ballad of a Thin Man Least fav: Highway 61 Revisited
This is another group that gets mentioned in the Goths(2017) song Abandoned Flesh. That definitely made me want to like it more than I do. I did like it, but I'm not sure that I would listen again. It was very atmospheric and I liked the mood the album captured but none of the songs really stood out to me. One of the reviews mentioned it being a good rainy day album which makes sense to me. Maybe I'd enjoy it more if I was in the right place for it. Fav song: M Least fav: The Final Sound
Great album. A lot of classics that I already knew, but I'd never listened to the full album before. Just a lot of fun. Bad Moon Rising is so good - I love a song that has a real juxtaposition between the lyrics and the music. Fav song: Bad Moon Rising Least fav: Cross-Tie Walker
Not a huge fan of the singing style and I thought the songs went on a bit, but I liked the guitar and the drums. I don't think I'll come back to it, but I did enjoy listening. Fav song: One Least fav: The Shortest Straw
So many songs on here where I was like “oh that’s where it’s from.” A few that I would not have guessed were by the same person. I thought the album was a lot of fun, can see why people are comparing him to the Beatles. Struggled to take “Gotta Get Up” seriously because it’s the reset music in Russian Doll. It’s used so well in that show though, it really works as a time loop reset song. Fav song: Without You – also liked Gotta Get Up and Down Least fav: I’ll Never Leave You
The first track was so perfectly my cup of tea that on the first listen I was a bit disappointed by the rest of the album. But listening again, I really enjoyed it. Felt varied across the album and different from anything I had listened to before. Would definitely listen again, I was really pleasantly surprised by this one. Fav song: Sunken Waltz Least fav: Güero Canelo
I liked the energy of the live album. I enjoyed the songs but found a lot of them quite similar. Was going to give it 3 stars as an album I enjoyed but probably won't listen to again. Docking it an extra star for the guy being so awful. Fav song: Great Balls of Fire Least fav: Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On
I love this album. I know that people don't like Morrissey's singing but I really do. My dad is a big fan of The Smiths so maybe it's just familiarity that makes me like it so much. This album has a bunch of the songs that I grew up hearing, and the songs I was less familiar with I also loved. Honestly I would probably give this a 5, but I can't listen to The Smiths anymore without thinking about how awful Morrissey is and that ruins it a bit. Fav song: Bigmouth Strikes Again Least fav: Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others
Some classics in here that I really enjoyed and some songs that I found less interesting. I liked some of the slower songs that I hadn't heard before, but some of them dragged a bit. There are songs in here that I'm always going to sing along to if I hear them, but I don't think I will relisten to the full album. Fav song: Hotel California Least fav: The Last Resort
I thought it was very atmospheric. I did fall asleep on the train twice to this album though. It was quite a nice album for that, but maybe not the most engaging. I enjoyed it and the specific mood that it had, but I probably won't listen again. Fav song: The Man Who Told Everything Least fav: Break Me Gently
I liked the music in this one but I didn't like all the bits where he just made weird noises and I thought a lot of the lyrics were questionable. Don't think I would listen again. Fav song: Hong Kong Bar Least fav: Devil Eyes
On my first listen I was annoyed by how long the album was, but on the second listen I liked how varied it was. They used the length of the album to include a variety of styles. Some of those styles I preferred to others, but that’s the nature of having a lot of variety. The lyrics can get a bit cheesy, but as a former angsty teen there was a certain nostalgia to the album, and not just because some of the songs were already known to me. I don’t think I’d listen to the full album again, maybe if I was still an angsty teenager, but it was nice to have listened and been reminded that I made it through those years. Fav song: 1979 - an honourable mention to Bullet With Butterfly Wings which I'll always sing along to when it plays. Least fav: Tales Of A Scorched Earth
I love the singing and a lot of the music but it definitely gets too weird for me in places, especially the final song. Fav song: Can You Get To That Least fav: Wars Of Armageddon
Some really lovely songs on here. There were definitely parts where it dragged and parts where it got a little squeaky for me, but overall I really enjoyed it. Not something I would normally listen to, but after listening to this I think I would listen again. Fav song: Epitaph Least fav: Moonchild
I really liked this album. On the first listen I wondered if I just liked it because of the familiarity of Alex Turner's voice, and that might still be part of it, but I do just really enjoy the album. Felt very different from the Arctic Monkeys albums I know. I liked the orchestration and how atmospheric it felt - I can see why they talked about film soundtracks. Fav song: Separate and Ever Deadly Least fav: The Chamber
I liked all the songs, but nothing really stood out to me. Strange because it felt like the sort of thing I should really enjoy, but it left very little impression. Fav song: Dying Days Least fav: Traveler
Really enjoyed this album. I thought his voice was lovely and the music had a really nice energy. Would definitely listen again. Fav song: O Filósofo Least fav: Xica Da Silva
I can see why he called it "Plastic Funk" it does feel more commercial than other funk music I've listened to. I still thought it was a lot of fun. I like the backup singers and the saxophone. Would probably listen again. Fav song: Fascination Least fav: Across the Universe
I really enjoyed this. Thought it was very nice to have on while I was working today. A lot of the tracks felt quite similar so I struggled to pick a favourite and least favourite, but I did really like it. Sent my friend an angry voice note earlier and then this started playing afterwards which I thought was quite funny. Fav song: Para Machuchar Meu Coracao Least fav: Doralice
It takes a bit of getting into and it’s certainly very strange, but I really enjoyed it. A few of the songs reminded me of Hadestown, especially Underground. His voice takes some adjusting to, but once I was on board I thought it suited the things he was singing about. Once I had accepted the weirdness and his voice, I felt really drawn into the emotions the songs were evoking. I don’t think it’s the sort of album I would listen to every day, but I can see myself listening to it again if I was in the right mood. Fav song: In The Neighbourhood Least fav: Dave The Butcher
Wasn't into this. Looked back at my previous Sonic Youth reviews and I keep saying "it almost sounds like something I'd like." I felt that here too. I can't really explain why I don't like it and again I was going to say maybe I'm just in a bad mood, but that's exactly what I said in my last Sonic Youth review. Maybe it just isn't my thing. Fav song: Shadow of a Doubt Least fav: Secret Girl
When The Magnetic Fields set out to make an album of 69 love songs, I'm sure they didn't think "but what if our album is someday included on a website that generates an album every day for people to listen to." It was at least partly a response to Charles Ives' 114 songs. Yes you could probably make an incredible album of just the best songs on here, but I think if it hadn't been 69 songs some of the really enjoyable weird stuff wouldn't have been written. I love this album. I love how strange it is. I love how varied it is. I love how broad their definition of "love song" becomes. Many of these songs regularly appear on my playlists. I'd never sat down to listen to the full album before, but I'm glad I did. There were some songs on here that I hadn't heard but really loved. Not every song on here is one I would choose to play on its own, but a lot of them are. I like the ambition of the project and despite its long run time, I do think I'll listen to it again. Fav song: Reno Dakota, Absolutely Cuckoo and Papa Was a Rodeo are some of my favourites. From the songs I didn't know already, No One Will Ever Love You and World Love are some new favourites. Least fav: Experimental Music Love
It was a little bit electronic for me, but I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. I liked her voice, I liked how atmospheric the songs felt. I'm not sure I'd listen to the album again, but I'd be happy to hear any of the songs if they were on. Fav song: Soft Shock Least fav: Shame and Fortune
It's not my favourite Joni Mitchell album, I definitely prefer her earlier folkier songs. I think these songs just have a bit too much going on in them, I prefer it when her voice and lyrics really shine. That being said, I did enjoy this album. I love her voice so much, I love the storytelling and I enjoyed how varied this album was. Fav song: People's Parties - I also liked Court and Spark and Raised on Robbery Least fav: Twisted
Some of the music is fun, I like that it has elements from a lot of different places she visited while working on the album. It's just not my thing at all. It was really repetitive and even if I was enjoying the music I really didn't like the vocals. Not something I would listen to again. Fav song: Paper Planes Least fav: Bamboo Banga
Thought this album was really lovely. His voice is gorgeous, the music is great. I liked the lyrics and I also liked the instrumentals. There were some moments where I lost interest, but overall it was a nice soothing listen with some good emotional moments. Fav song: Freddie's Dead Least fav: Give Me Your Love (Love Song)
There are parts of it I really like and parts I don't enjoy as much. I always find it hard to pick favourites and least favourites with songs that change so much over the course of the song. I'm not sure I would listen to the album again, but I did find a lot here that I enjoyed. I think its maybe just too synth heavy for me. Fav song: Dancing with the Moonlit Knight Least fav: The Battle of Epping Forest
There were parts of this I liked and then parts that were a bit too discordant for me. Really liked the brass instruments but I wasn’t a big fan of the electric piano. Would be happy enough to have it on in the background but I don’t think it’s something I’ll come back too. Fav song: In a Silent Way Least fav: Shhh / Peaceful
I love this album. I grew up listening to it. I think the music is beautiful. I love how collaborative it is and how all the different collaborations lead to an album that feels varied but coherent. There isn't a song on here that I would skip. Obviously my review is super biased, there's no way for me to listen to this album and not remember singing along to it with my family in the car. I like to think that I'd love it even if I was hearing it for the first time now. There's such a good mix of warmth and emotion. Fav song: You Can Call Me Al - this one has been my fav since I was a kid. Graceland is the one I haven't been able to stop singing since listening this time. Least fav: Gumboots
I imagine it would have been good fun to be at this concert, but I'm not sure the album is one I needed to hear before I die. The songs were enjoyable but not so much that I think I would come back to it. The songs I really enjoyed I liked more because I was already familiar with them. It has made me want to rewatch 10 Things I Hate About You, I really like the cover of I Want You to Want Me at the end of that film. I think it was fun that they opened and closed (before what I guess is the encore) with Hello There and Goodnight, which I think would be cool if you were there, but I don't think they were particularly good songs outside of that context. Overall, a decent listen but not something I'll come back to. Fav song: I Want You to Want Me Least fav: Lookout
I really liked the harmonies. I enjoyed a lot of the music but did sometimes find it a little boring. The lyrics were not so good, very dated. A nice short album, but it feels very much of its time and I probably won't listen to it again. Fav song: Love Hurts Least fav: Made to Love
There were quite a few covers on this one. I was surprised to see a song I knew from The Music Man. I enjoyed the album, it feels more consistent than some of the other Beatles albums we've had. Some really good songs and then some filler, but nothing too strange. Most of my favourite songs on it were the covers although for a lot of the covers there are versions I like more. Maybe they were just my favourites because they were more familiar to me or because they reminded me of the versions I knew better? Fav song: Roll Over Beethoven - also liked You Really Got A Hold On Me and Please Mister Postman (all songs where I like a different version) Least fav: Little Child
I really enjoyed this one. Not something I would normally listen to but it was a lot of fun. There was a nice variation between upbeat and slower songs. The album made for good listening while I was working, I really liked the energy. Something I would come back to for background music. Fav song: Flight of the Foo Birds Least fav: Double-O
I like a lot of it but there are too many effects over the top. Some good guitar playing and catchy songs but there are just some production choices I don’t like. Some real tunes though, even if they have been overplayed. Fav song: More Than a Feeling Least fav: Hitch a Ride
I really liked this. It was like punk rock meets country, which isn't something I thought I needed to hear, but I'm glad I did. I liked the vocals. I thought that all the styles they brought in meant the album stayed really varied. Fav song: In This House That I Call Home Least fav: We're Desperate
I really like his voice and I had a nice time listening but I'm not a huge synth fan. It felt to me like the synths didn't fit very well with the rest of the music, but that might just be my anti-synth bias. It was nice background music, but not something I'll listen to again. Fav song: You Haven't Done Nothin' Least fav: They Won't Go When I Go
This was really fun. I loved the percussion, I loved the brass, I loved the energy. There were times when it felt like a film soundtrack and times where it made me want to dance. Not something I would normally listen to but I really liked it. I had a hard time picking a favourite and least favourite because I kept thinking each track was my favourite. Fav song: Conversation Least fav: Wild Jungle
I enjoyed some of the songs but a lot of it felt very repetitive to me. Just not really my thing. Don't mind listening to the hits on it but I wouldn't revisit the album. Fav song: Message In A Bottle Least fav: No Time This Time
Some fun songs and definitely some good playing, just not something that excited me. I would be happy if any of the songs came on, but I don't think I'll come back to the album. Jump in particular is a lot of fun, if a little cheesy. I did enjoy the guitar playing but I just don't feel drawn to listen to it again. Fav song: Jump Least fav: Girl Gone Bad
Enjoyable but it didn’t really stand out to me. Fun to hear their cover of Born To Be Wild but I think I prefer the original. To be honest I don’t really understand why this album was on here. It was a pretty good rock album but nothing about it felt like I had to hear it before I die. It grew on me after a second listen, and I ended up enjoying it more, but I still don’t think it’ll be one I come back to. Fav song: Bad Fun – and the cover of Born To Be Wild, but that might just be because it was familiar. Least fav: Memphis Hip Shake
Some of these songs appear on a playlist my dad made for my mum for Christmas. It’s the playlist we put on if we’re all on a car journey together. I’m always excited to see albums on here that feature any of those songs. I do see why people might struggle with it, but I grew up with music like this. There are moments where the album dragged a little for me, and I wasn’t a huge fan of the last song. But I really like the sparse arrangements and I like his voice, even as I can understand why people wouldn’t. (That’s like 80% of my music taste to be fair) It does have some odd lyrics and some weaker songs, but I think it also has some beautiful songs and the sparseness adds to the emotion of them. Fav song: Into My Arms – I also liked People Ain’t No Good, and my favourite song I didn’t already know was West Country Girl Least fav: Green Eyes
I already knew some of the songs on this album, but I don’t think I knew any of the ones with horns. I really enjoyed the contrast between the softer guitar songs and the songs with brass arrangements. I like his voice and the guitar and although a couple songs are a bit weaker, I think there’s good variation across the album. Overall I thought the album was lovely, some really beautiful songs. Fav song: Fire and Rain Least fav: Blossom
I thought this album was stunning. Not really sure what to say about it. Blue in Green almost made me cry, which is probably partly due to tiredness, but is also a testament to how well the music creates a mood. I think it has to be my favourite from the album, but I also enjoyed the energy of the first song a lot. There wasn’t a song that I didn’t like and each one brought its own feeling. I like jazz, but it isn’t something I would normally listen to, however I can see myself returning to this album. Fav song: Blue in Green Least fav: All Blues (but I still really enjoyed it)
Some of the lyrics are dodgy, but I really enjoyed the music. There’s a nice country/bluesy feel to the songs. I love a good saxophone and I enjoyed the string arrangements that show up. The first song really puts me off, but then the rest of the album was a good listen. Fav song: Wild Horses Least fav: Brown Sugar
According to Wikipedia, the album has the funk-influenced Pavement side and the all-electronic Penthouse side. I definitely prefer the Pavement side. The songs are maybe a little repetitive for me, but the beats are fun and I love a good saxophone addition. I even liked the synthetic horns despite not generally being a synth fan. It helps that the album seems quite left wing. It loses me a bit as it goes on to the all-electronic side, but not as much as I thought it would. Liked it a lot more than I was expecting, considering this is a genre I usually don't get along with. Not sure I'd come back to it, but I've enjoyed listening. (I’ve had Cubs in Five in my head since seeing we were given this album, might have contributed to my enjoyment of it.) Fav song: Play To Win Least fav: Song With No Name
I wasn’t a huge fan at the start but it definitely grew on me. I liked the guitar riffs and the vocals and I enjoyed the energy of it. I wasn’t a big fan of all the screaming at the start, and whatever was going on in the final track. I’m not sure I’d come back to it, but I’m glad I gave it a second listen. Fav song: Rocketship Least fav: Sticky
I enjoyed the first half much more than the second half. The first half had a lot of really good songs. They were still surrounded by songs and interludes that I wasn’t interested in, but I thought the good far outweighed the bad. I thought some of the music in the second half was enjoyable, but the lyrics really put me off, and they were still surrounded by songs and interludes I didn't like. Hey Ya! is a lot of fun though. Fav song: Hey Ya! Least fav: Behold a Lady
The first time I listened to this album I tried to put it on as background music and it pissed me off. I think I was just trying to focus on something and it kept pulling my attention away. For the second listen I decided just to listen to it and found myself really enjoying it. There were definitely parts where my attention wandered, but there were also parts I thought were beautiful. Could probably have done without some of his vocalisations, but they didn’t bother me too much. Fav song: Köln, January 24, 1975, Part I Least fav: Köln, January 24, 1975, Part II b
