Some of the worst music ever put out in my opinion. Sounds like a shit theme tune to a spooky super Mario level set in the desert. Going through the process to revoke David Byrne’s Scottish identity now. Also slightly biased as I was listening to this as I fell in partick station and sent a whole tub of brownies flying. Top tier divorced dad music. Goes the whole journey really with the rock music underlined by sadness into sadder songs into full depression confession. Love it. Also because this is a directly post 9/11 I like to imagine an alternate universe where the 9/11 butterfly effect leads to a country version of twilight. This was the toughest listen so far for sure. So so long and a 21 minute long song to start like come on. Even if it was a good beat all the way through it would have been more bearable. But it has minute long sections in songs with no beat and what sounds like a bloody Nokia ringtone. Painful. Some songs could be good to run to or something though I guess. The reason this was put on the 1001 lists is because it was ‘a challenging listen’. They call this noise rock but the real name should be Guantanamo bay torture method music. Would give up the state secrets in a second if they played this on a second hand beats pill let alone blasting it through headphones. Also they released a song called 2 towers in 2003.
