1001 Albums Summary

One of my favourites. My dad played this album excessively when I was a kid.

Fantastic album. I need more bossa nova in my life.

Amazing album. 'Stop that Train' sent me into a Peter Tosh rabbit hole that went late into the night.

A favourite. I spun it 3 times.

Tight band, classic tunes, the energy of a live performance - amazing.

Amazing. I was unfamiliar with this album/artist. Pleasantly surprised. Added to my rotation.

An old favourite. Listening to this on a proper hifi system is a treat. Love

This isn’t it. Depressing, unpleasant musically - I’m not sure why this album is on such an esteemed list.

Easy listen. I'm not the biggest fan of Elvis' crooning, but there are some well known hits on this one.

Another favourite. Heavy rotation

This was totally new to me, and I enjoyed it way more than I thought i would. I spun it twice. It got better

I was a teenager in the 90s. I hated NIN then. 30 years later - I still hate NIN. This noise ruined my day.

Fun album. Not my favourite to come out of the WuTang camp, or even my favourite Ghostface album, but there are some great tracks here.

Great album. Brought back many memories.

I don't hate this album, but I don't particularly like it either. It doesn't offent me in any way, but I have absolutely no desire to hear a single track from this album ever again.

I liked the first half of this album more than I thought I would. The bluesy stuff was great. It's shame, but 'Highlands' killed it for me. Who wants to listen to Bob Dylan singing for 16.5 minutes about nothing? Nobody. When I got to minute 10, the words of my 16 year old daughter came to mind: 'Bro - this is low-key pissing me off'.

Easy listen, but a bit boring a melodramatic for me.

Fun. Frenetic. Top notch musicians. I'm glad I was introduced to this album.

So much fun. Definitely a 5/5. I’m glad I came back to this.

Sometimes a little bit corny, and the album is a bit long, but the music is just so FUNKY.

I had a hard time with this. Noisy and boring.

Two spins of this and I’m still not sure what I think. That usually means I’ll like it on the third

Hard pass.

Classic album, with some dull spots. Overall - a great listen.

After close to 30 hours of travel, and spending the day in the chaotic, filthy beauty of Saigon, this was exactly what I needed to calm my overstimulated brain.

This grew on me on the second spin. I don’t hate it.

If you somehow plugged a Beach Boys cassette into a ColecoVision video game system, and then lightning struck - like in Weird Science - instead of Kelly LeBrock and a Ferrari Mondial, you’d get a lady that looks like Mrs Doubtfire and this album.

This was my first experience with this album, and likely my last. Jagged Little Pill-esque with boring musicianship and a MUCH less talented singer.

Beautiful voice, but this was 3:15 of the same song

This was a fun one to revisit.

Torturous. I will never spin this again. This sits right next to Trent Reznor’s nonsense on the burn pile.

Not bad. But I could have done without it

Funky. Always a fun listen.

Sonically great - sounds amazing in the headphones - but I feel no connection to this.

I enjoyed this. Pretty typical of the time period, but it was a good listen. I will probably spin it again.

Fun bar band music.

Fun, although it gets pretty repetitive sonically.

I have always loved this album.

I hate Bitter Sweet Symphony and it is the best track on this album. Bored to tears. I can see why the Drugs Don't Work.

Easy listen

I really enjoyed this.

A theater kid's fever dream. Too weird for me.

Lots of favourites here.

Somewhat cool on the headphone rig, but there wasn't much that stood out for me here.

I had never heard of John Martyn before this. I dug this album. It is definitely going into the rotation.

A few tracks bring back memories, but this is DEFINITELY not an essential album for me.

Great album. Added to the library

Spun it twice. Nothing here for me.

This one is a favourite. I can spin it on repeat.

Not bad, but this is another album where nothing jumped out at me

So boring

There was some nostalgia in this one for me, but listening to it almost 40 years later - I realize it just isn’t that good.

There are a handful of listenable tracks on this. I will never understand the Kendrick Lamar obsession

Good album, but maybe not DB’s best

I like this. Short, angry, and sweet.

Fun

It’s fine - just nothing special

I enjoyed this intellectually, but I couldn’t connect with it for some reason.

Love.

Cool for 5 minutes. Not for 1 hour

Terrible. Terrible. Terrible.

Another dud. I didn't enjoy this.

Fun, but basically the same song x10

Easy listen - not Kanye’s best

Again - not bad, but in two listens, I connect with nothing on this album

This was my first ever spin of this. Fun album.

2 stars on the strength of the musicians. This would have been a 3 if the album was instrumental. Hate the singing.

Great listen. No skips

Love this album. Heavy rotation.

I had a tough time with this. It felt like an hour of the same song.

Good album. Not great.

I liked about 1/3 of this album. The rest was a chore. I guess I just don’t get it.

Love. I spent a lot of time with this album as a kid. It was great to revisit.

One of my favourites

Perfect album.

I grew up with this one. Great album, but there are some duds.

Ok. I couldn’t get excited about this.

Pretty tedious.

Similar to most of the Britpop albums I’ve encountered on this list - one good song and the rest is boring, melodramatic BS.

Decent as background music.

Fun, funky, easy

Apart from a couple of hits, this album is really bad. Extremely.

A favourite. ATCQ on the way to greatness

Song after song after song. Genius

This was fun. Not great, not serious, but fun.

In the right mood, this is a fun album

The tightness of Al Green’s band is unmatched. Groove.

Decent, but a little bit juvenile for me

The Joshua Tree was a good album. That's was both the beginning and end of my relationship with U2. Two stars because I caught myself tapping my foot twice.

Easy listen, but it sounds like something from a kids show

I really enjoyed this. Like playing in mud.

As a Canadian, I guess I’m supposed to have a Joni Mitchell tattoo on my ches, but I’ve always found her voice annoying. The songs don’t suck, though.

My favourite Beatles album. That isn’t saying a lot

When my daughters were 6 and 8 years old, they formed a 'band' with a friend of theirs. One on the violin, one on the piano, and one singing. They were objectively better than anything on this album. Listening to this lady butcher Jackson Browne's tune made me mad.

Love

Decent background music. Not much to distinguish the individual songs here, but it was an easy enough listen.

I enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would. It is definitely going into the rotation.

Miss me with the whisper singing/talking. Annoying.

I loved their first album. This one, not so much.

Another album that had me bored to tears

I didn’t mind the Bee Gees before. This album made me hate the Bee Gees

Funky. In the right mood, this album hits perfectly.

Beauty and the Beast - the musical

Good album - a bit monotonous

Decent album with a lot of heavy songs. Not great, but good.

Bo-Ring. But not as bad as the other Elliott Smith album I had to endure.

After a series of duds, finally an album that deserves to be on this list. Masterpiece.

I didn’t hs5w this as much as I thought I would, but it was still a slog. This lady is just too weird for me.

I enjoyed this WAY more than I thought I would.

The first track was OK, the rest let me down. Pretty terrible stuff.

Sad album, but easy to listen to

One of my favourite albums of the era. Not too serious, just kids having fun.

Great album. This was my first experience with this band and I’m impressed

Fun, with a health dose of nostalgia

Amazing album. Start to finish.

Sad, decent.

So much here to enjoy. This is deserving of several spins

Bored to tears

The Message is considered a classic song - deservedly so. But the rest of this album is trash.

This was actually annoying.

This was a nice, easy listen. Added to the rotation.

Classic.

I’ll never like.Bob Dylan’s voice, but I enjoyed this album. I want a leopard skin pill box hat.

Taxicab confessions

These Englishmen are certainly a moody bunch.

One of my favourites on this journey so far

Fantastic. Not the best recording, but it’s a great ride.

I love this album.

Pleasant enough, but not really my thing. RIP DP

This was a solid find for me. Unique. I enjoyed every track

Some good tunes here. Dylan is growing on me.

When I was in 2nd and 3rd grade I had a buddy named Julio. Damn near every day, my dad would ask me - What did you get into today? I saw you and Julio down by the school yard. And he’d laugh like it was the first time he made the joke.

New to me and decent.

This was a pretty standard jazz album. Decent, but there doesn't seem to be anything of significance here. Maybe because it is South African?

I didn’t enjoy a single song on this. I like most of Pharrell’s work, but this album was trash

One of the best

Fun album. Lots of memories with this one, but most of the tracks are meh.

Ok, but nkt a single track was memorable

I sort of like Stereolab. The album was a 2.5 but I rounded up because the song names are cool.

Completely whacked…but I liked it. It gets added to the rotation for days when I feel like a dose of crazy.

Right up my alley. Pleasant from start to finish.

2 stars for Pinball Wizard

Easy listening at its best

Easy, but a bit boring.

Great album.

80s fun at its finest

Mediocre mumbling.

This is the easiest 5 stars thus far. Every song is a masterpiece.

Great album. Fun listen

This band was not familiar to me - I didn’t mind this album at all. I think it deserves a few more spins.

Ive tried, but I was never able to get into Beck’s music.

Enjoyable is a bubblegum sort of way.

The other Sept 11 tragedy. This is one of my favourite albums.

Not my thing. At all.

This dude sounds like Count Chocula

Always a great spin

Lots of hits here. Good album

Corny southern hippy hip hop at its finest. It isn’t a great album, but I’m giving it 3 stars for nostalgia. I was in high school when this came out. Lots of memories

My father might disown me, but this bored me.

Trash.

Very average album. Just ok.

This one was fun. I was familiar with a few tracks, but I had never spun the entire album. I’ll definitely dig in again.

Artsy crap.

This was a fun listen. Not sure if I’ll go back to it, but I’m not opposed to the idea.

This was a chore.
