Album Summary
Bringing It All Back Home (known as Subterranean Homesick Blues in some European countries) is the fifth studio album by American singer-songwriter Bob Dylan. It was released on March 22, 1965, by Columbia Records. The first half of the album features electric songs, followed by mainly acoustic songs in the second half. The album abandons the protest music of Dylan's previous records in favor of more surreal, complex lyrics. On side one of the original LP, Dylan is backed by an electric rock and roll band—a move that further alienated him from some of his former peers in the folk music community. The album reached No. 6 on Billboard's Pop Albums chart, the first of Dylan's LPs to break into the US top 10. It also topped the UK charts later that spring. The first track, "Subterranean Homesick Blues", became Dylan's first single to chart in the US, peaking at No. 39. Bringing It All Back Home has been described as one of the greatest albums of all time by multiple publications.

4.5 - awesome, essential folk rock. All the platitudes are deserved. Dylan is vital and incomparable, and this record finds him entering his peak.
Vaca catch up
Love the first and last tracks - saved outlaw blues because I had never heard it before
Meh, every song sounds the same. One melody, one harmonica, lyrics are somewhat captivating.
Dylan at his the crossroads and creative with iconic songs and opaque lyrics
bob dylan is like 'i have something i need to say!' and then he says it over and over again in the same tone and using the same notes and it actually works like 70% of the time
First Listen Favorites: Subterranean Homesick Blues I'm Alright, Ma (I'm Only Bleeding) It's All Over Now, Baby Blue Honorable Mentions: Mr Tambourine Man Love Minus Zero Outlaw Blues
Onpa kyllä vammasen kuulosta laulua. Älä laita tällästä.
Tämähän se maittaa.
Onhan tää nyt ihan saatanan hieno levy. Pelkästään Love Minus Zero ansaitsisi yksinään kuusi tähteä. Toki muutenkin pelkkää juhlaa.
I really liked this ablum. I was surprised by the amount of humour in the lyrics, especially Bob Dylan's 115th Dream. I thought I'd miss The Byrds version of Mr. Tambourine Man, but the original is just lovely.
Vocally one of Dylan's best. Partial here because it is probably my favorite Dylan record but this is a solid piece of work with now classic tracks and musical moments.
Dylan is a good if sometimes dates songwriter, although he isn't that good a performer. I did enjoy his 115th dream though, that was a surrealist gen. ⭐⭐⭐
6/10 - great voice, some good songs, some meh songs
First Bob Dylan album of the list; one that I enjoyed but didn't fall in love with. Pleasant melodies and lyrics throughout. Favourites: Bob Dylan's 115th Dream Tambourine Man It's Alright Ma (I'm only Bleeding)
Great tunes I’m a fan Charming, much like my good self
Good music for a rainy day
I absolutely love Bob Dylan. This is the kind of folk/americana music I can throw on and listen to all day long. Dylan's voice is so unique and (bad) that it is amazing. This is an easy 4.5 for me and we know that around here, we round straight to the UPS
Surprised by this album as I've tried to listen to bob dylan albums and foumd them very inconsistent. The first half feels like it should just be standard unremarkable 12bar blues but has but, other than in the road again, the songs are remarkably varied and the electric guitar and harmonica is well layered over dylans voice. The slower second half is much better although I'm not a big fan of its alright ma I'm only bleeding as it drones on. Favourite: mr tambourine man Likes: subterranean homesick blues, she belongs to me, outlaw blues, bob dylans 115th dream, gates of Eden. Dislikes: on the road again, it's alright ma I'm only bleeding
Guitar section, the same vocal melodies, aggressive harmonica - rinse & repeat. This is enjoyable in a way, but some of the vocals and the insane overuse of the harmonica are so annoying. At its time I can imagine this music being amazing, but I just can't force myself to love Bob Dylan music. There are some great hight moments here - I'm Alright, Ma (I'm Only Bleeding) is an unbelievable track, but too much of it jars. 7/10.
If someone didn’t know what Bob Dylan sounded like and wanted a way in to understand what a lot of the fuss was about, this album is a pretty great place to start.
Ok, sama naslovnica mi ni znana, sm pa ornk familiar z kar nekaj komadi. "Subterranean Homesick Blues" mi je bil zmer kul. So far (sem pri "Bob Dylan's 115th Dream") mi je ful enjoyable album. Mogoč še najbl do zdaj (mislim, da je to tretji Bob Dylan k sm ga kle dobila - jap, kar me spomne, da bo kmal spet v Lj? Tokrat ne grem, once was enough glede na to, kako zadnjih ne vem kok let špila na koncertih (it wasn't that good)). Album pa prou fajn.
Ohne Lebensmittelvergiftung tatsächlich gut hörbar
A great album with a ton of great lyrics
Bob Dylan one of the most unique artists to do it and his style just tickles my brain. I love the more rock and roll backing of thee first half and find myself charmed with the folk/ acoustic stylings in the back half. Good music! Fav tracks: subterranean homesick blues, she belongs to me, on the road again, Bob Dylan’s 115th dream, and Mr. Tambourine man
This album is the first of three great albums that for me are Dylan's best, and a golden mid-60s period. These albums really shook up rock music.
4.18
This is a fantastic Dylan record, but not one of my faves. Love Minus Zero, Mr Tambourine Man & Gates of Eden have stayed with me for decades.
Ok this one wasn’t as bad
One of the all time greats!
Dylan goes partially electric. Sucks for Pete Seger (who I do have more sympathy for after seeing A Complete Unknown, I thought the film did a good job of showing that it wasn’t just him being a musical Luddite), but good for the rest of us.
Always been a big Dylan fan so I am already very familiar with this album. Hadn’t heard in in a while so it was great to revisit
i shoulda known id be forced to listen to dylan 115th dream is good though so that earns a star
The one where Bob moves from acoustic folk icon into groundbreaking rock star. Lyrics become imagery as poetic and surreal. Shifting what rock lyrics can be. It is a classic, it remains a classic, it defined that generation. But it’s not all history, It’s a great album, and listen. 5 Star
Gostei.
A beautiful Dylan album. There's not only good songwriting on display here but also a lot of personality. The simple outtake at the start on 115th Dream adds a good bit of fun to the whole album, and Bob is in his usual good form for this era. I recommend highly.
3/5 Favorite Songs: Subterranean Homesick Blues Outlaw Blues Mr. Tambourine Man Its Alright, Ma (I'm Only Bleeding)
Great mix of his folky and bluesy tunes. Home to some bona fide classics. One of his best
A lyrical masterpiece and a triumph in songwriting. Gates of Eden is a standout
pick: Love Minus Zero / No Limit, It's Alright, Ma (I'm Only Bleeding), Mr. Tambourine Man
The last time I listened to this was a year ago, it’s always a treat to come back to. His music opened my eyes to ALL music. I forget how much I love this! 4.5
Would give six stars if I could etc etc
Review - not his best work but still very good. Early experimentation in electric instrumentation for him. Still working in his folly, one take and it's good enough style. Whole album recorded in about two days is crazy. Second half of the album is by far the best. I'm Only Bleeding and It's All Over Now are wonderful tracks. Opening 3 tracks great too. Lull in the middle. Score - 7.5/10 Need to listen? YES
I'm not a fan of Dylan and this album didn't help me. It was fine.
3.7
Grew up on this album, feels like the most in his wheelhouse Bob Dylan. I don't think it's his best album to be clear but it's his most Bob Dylan album for me.
Good songs, too bad Bob is singing them.
Unparallelled songwriting. The live performances from this period are quite good.
incredible obviously
Classic Bob
How many more Bob Dylan records are on here? I get it, interesting songwriter with a terrible voice that chooses the worst recording and production.
The Times They Are A-Changin'.
Dylan is one of one. Hard to argue with the historical importance of his music and legacy no matter what you think of it.
This might be my Rosetta Stone for understanding Bob. The laugh at the beginning of that one song set the tone in a perfect way- he’s just having a laugh. Its inclusion gave the album a twinkle in the eye that I really enjoyed.
Not a bad album, I just can’t get into Bob Dylan’s voice
Dylan plugged in his guitar and it instantly sounded better. An interesting transitional album, in which I feel the acoustic songs pale in comparison to the electric ones. A strong four stars.
This is the best Dylan album I've heard so far. Still not a fan but he is growing on me. The lyrics are more focused on this and the songs are good quality. Maybe after a few more listens I will appreciate more..
I noted on a previous Dylan album that I'm not a fan, but I think this is now the best Dylan I've heard. Subterranean Homesick Blues is entertaining, and the complexity of the lyrics, whose delivery sometimes outpaces the music, is interesting on It's Alright, Ma. Similarly, I enjoyed following along on Bob Dylan's 115th Dream.
I just don't care for Dylan. I try to engage with it. The problem I have is that, yes, he does have some brilliant lyrics...but their between lines like "oh mami, there's peanut butter in the trees". Bob Dylan just says all he things. He sounds weird doing it.
Good. Not quite my genre-a little wordy and off-beat.
It's not my kind of music. It starts ok, but I think I was tired and bored at the end of the album
This really was a bit of a homecoming. After a bunch of new-to-me albums it’s nice to revisit a familiar favorite.
Horrible shit and that annoying little voice. Zero.
I already don't particularly like Bob Dylan. I don't hate him, but I just really don't like him. I just find that his voice is very grating. I don't necessarily mind the harmonica, I just feel that it works better on some tracks, but it's inclusion on almost every track just makes it very overplayed. The lyrics are...something else at a lot of points in this album. I can't tell if I find it more annoying or more funny. I don't think either those feelings are intentional though. It's fine, this album works more than it doesn't, but I just find it closer to being not good. It certainly is not my kind of music. Fav Track: Maggie's Farm
Honestly, I don't know what rating to give. Some of the songs don't really have... songs? He's just reciting lyrics to the music. Overall, his voice is pleasant, and the harmonica blends very well with many of his songs. This is one of those cases where it's not bad, but it's not a masterpiece either.
hot take bub Dylan is not very good
Dylan’s first home run
Lots of great songs here. I can only imagine being a hardcore Dylan folk fan in 1965, putting this on for the first time, hearing electric guitars right away and absolutely losing your mind. The first half feels like Dylan deciding he could do whatever the hell he wanted, and in hindsight you can hear how much rock music was about to change around him. “Subterranean Homesick Blues” almost sounds like stream of consciousness put to music. He just keeps throwing lines at you faster than you can process them. “Maggie’s Farm” is a banger, and “Mr. Tambourine Man” is obviously a classic. Then “Gates of Eden” strips things back and reminds you just how ridiculous Dylan could be as a songwriter when it was basically just him, an acoustic guitar, and pages worth of imagery. I liked the split personality of the album more than I expected. Half electric Dylan pushing toward rock, half the folk songwriter everyone already knew, with both versions sitting on the same record. Favorite song: "Maggie's Farm"
Enjoyable, peaks with the last few, as lyrical as one would expect
Greit nok, litt mye blues/boogie woogie og diktpreget for min smak.
Likte denne.
Pretty good bobby 7/10
Listened on the train to school. This was so good
She bob in my Dylan till I bog Dylan
Another excellent Dylan album.
The Good Dye Young, that is why Bob Dylan is still alive. If you want to listen to a tortured poet/artist might I suggest Coil.
Can’t be mad about it. Nice album.
Phil Ochs should have gotten Dylan's popularity
Not my favorite, but the first track is very good.
I’ve heard this before. I like Bon Dylan's folk stuff more than his electric stuff but I like his early electric stuff better than his later electric stuff. I think this was his first electric album and it’s funny that this was so controversial among the folk music crowd, because side one is basically uptempo folk songs done with electric instruments and a full band, and side two is straight up acoustic folk with an instrument or two added for effect. And the folk crowd was seriously pissed off about this. It’s pretty common for fans to get upset when an artist goes in a direction they’re not expecting, but apparently when he debuted these songs at the Newport folk festival some of the people tried to shut down the power for the entire place. And that seems like a real fragile overreaction from them. Anyway all these songs are great and it’s organized real well with the electric / folk sides of the record, and the performances are straightforward without being overindulgent, and the folkies were being silly when they got offended over it.
Baby Boomers might have destroyed our world, and I disagree with everything they have done, but they got one thing right, Bob Dylan. This album grabs you from the start and over the course 47 minutes never lets go. It’s brilliant. It just is.
This is extremely easy to rate: 5 stars. One of the best albums, by one of my favourite artists. "Subterranean Homesick Blues" and "Maggie's Farm" are among my favourite songs (ever). But the point is that all the other tracks in this album are also great: "It's Alright, Ma (I'm Only Bleeding)", "Gates of Eden", "Love Minus Zero/No Limit", "Mr. Tambourine Man", "It's All Over Now Baby Blue", " She Belongs To Me", "Outlaw Blues" (I love the cover by Jack White), "On The Road Again" (hilarious), "Bob Dylan's 115th Dream" (fun lyrics). It's simply a masterpiece, and extremely influential. I'm surprised this is not rated higher in this list.
Tip to Tail, this is the one. Bob having fun, with a big Fuck You to the man and the fan! Love this!
Buen disco. Horrible portada.
I don’t consider myself a big fan, but this is definitely the most enjoyable album of his I’ve listened to.

5/5
Got stoned and actually really liked Bob Dylan for the first time!
A good transitional album of Bob getting into rock.
Muito bom pabens
This was a very enjoyable listen while doing chores today. It’s weird to say it’s refreshing to hear stories in songs because this is how it should be. Yet here we are. I liked 4 songs and will be back. 4/5
