I was surprised by how much I enjoyed a lot of the songs on here. It's a very long album and not all of them were for me, but so many great hits and deep cuts I didn't know. So many different interesting sounds and clashing styles. A fun listening experience, even if not my type of musics. Top Songs: Pink & Blue, Spread, Dracula's Wedding, Roses

Really cool album. I liked this much more than I expected to. Really pioneered this sound and I could see myself listening to this again. Love how cinematic it is.

I really like the new wave sound, and a lot of these songs are great and very fun. I would listen again. That said, there were a lot of moments that weren’t very cohesive and i wanted to skip through. Top Songs: Come Back Jonee, Gut Feeling

Such an amazing album! So many great songs on here. The songwriting is excellent and the different styles and sounds they use here bring it to the next level. Are there some skips? Yes, but overall an amazing listening experience. Less points for how long it is. I really liked some of these songs, and I really lime Neil Young as an artist. But I wasn’t blown away by this album in general. The sound is cohesive but not my favorite. Top Songs: Cinnamon Girl, Round & Round (It Won't Be Long)

Really bad. Not for the masses. I can appreciate free form jazz as a form of expression, but it just sounds terrible. Absolutely should not be on this list. Very hard to listen.

This an album I have tried to listen to before without success. A lot of noise and distortion, and I love shoegaze and dream pop music so this should be my type of album. It's just a bit too hard rock for me where I prefer a softer sound. That being said, I overall enjoyed the album on this listen more than I expected and certain songs really stood out that I would love to listen to again. I do see why this album has so much hype. Really liked this album, much more than I expected. Such a cool blend of jazz, funk, and rock. It definitely started to blend together at the end a bit, but I was surprised how much I enjoyed this. Top Songs: Peaches En Regalia, Willie The Pimp

Really loved this album. I had listened to her music before, but most of this album was new to me. I like a bunch of the songs. Definitely some were stronger than others. Obviously this album has some classic rock hits on it, but overall I was not very impressed. There is a reason the couple hits are the only well known songs. They sound the same on every song, the scream singing gets old quickly, and lyrically nothing special. But the hits make it better. Top Songs: Hell’s Bells, You Shook Me All Night Long

A lot of Christmas classics. I love the old sound and definitely some of the best holiday songs ever on here. All fun overall, but nothing amazing. Top Songs: White Christmas, I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus, Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)

I enjoyed this, but wasn’t anything amazing. The first couple songs were strongest and then it went downhill a bit. Maybe too ambient sounding for me, but a nice album overall. Top Songs: Under the Pressure, Red Eyes

I wanted to like this album more than I did. Definitely some great Bowie songs on here and new ones I liked. But I wasn’t overly impressed with any of them truthfully. Might need another listen to appreciate more. Top Songs: Young Americans, Someone Up There Likes Me

Re-listened on 4/16: 3 -> 4 This album has such a strong and cohesive sound, and it has a cathartic energy. Thematically too, the album is very powerful and important. It’s not for everyone, but it hits so hard in the moments it needs to. Love is a genius lyrically and doesn’t hold back here at all. You know who she is and what she stands for in these songs. It’s not perfect but the emotion is unmatched. Top Songs: Doll Parts, Softer, Softest, Violet, Plump, I Think That I Would Die

Very easy listening and enjoyable! Great background music.

Similar to Loveless, I liked this album more than I expected to - maybe even more than Loveless. It has more downtempo songs with catchier hooks. Especially the middle of the album stood out to me with songs I felt I would listen to again. Still a bit more distortion than I like in my music, but better than I thought! I really enjoy The Kinks! Very much like an alternative early Beatles, although never reached the same creative levels. This album had a lot of fun songs I enjoyed but I wasn’t crazy about it! Top Songs: Big Sky, Village Green, Starstruck

The song from Robots !! I honestly liked this album a lot more than I expected. Really creative and interesting sounds. At its best when it is jazzy and funky. I love the percussion sound and the themes of loneliness and isolation. I would explore more of his music. Top Songs: Underground, Johnsburg, Illinois, Swordfishtrombone

Wow I loved this album! Was not familiar with Peter Tosh or much reggae at all, but I could already see myself listening again and exploring more of his solo music/with The Wailers. Such a great sound and easy listening, but there is a message behind the music too which adds even more. Great one! Top Songs: Legalize It, Burial, Ketchy Shuby, Brand New Second Hand

A couple songs on here that I really liked, but as a whole, the album started to blend together and I was ready for it to be done by the end. I do like the sound a lot, and love this ska vibe they really pioneered, but as a whole this wasn’t a standout for me.

This is an awesome album! Enjoyed this way more than I expected. Made me want to dance and move when I was sitting at my desk working. Put it on later to hype myself up. People hate on electronic/dance music and act like it’s just noise, but you can hear how well crafted every song and beat is on here. Loved it! Top Songs: Elektrobank, Piku, Dig Your Own Hold

Nothing amazing. I really like the way he incorporated recorded sounds and conversations from New York into the music and gave it a very cinematic feel. As a trip-hop album I thought it was cool overall, but not something I would be dying to listen to again. But overall a good sound. Top Songs: Gritty Shaker, Let’s Get Killed, Radio 7”

I thought this was an interesting album, but at the same time not very memorable. Definitely has a Prince/80s pop sound that is fun, but without ever breaking through to being super catchy or impactful. Wishing Well was definitely a standout and I think I’ve heard it before. Obviously a classic and so influential to rock/blues music in so many ways. I’ve heard this album before and definitely think it’s solid. Just overall not my favorite type of music and nothing on here that I really love. But great overall. Top Songs: Love Her Madly, L.A Woman

As someone who has never been a fan of Taylor Swift really at all, besides a few of her songs here and there, I was surprised by how much I liked this album. When she doesn't insist on charting or having the biggest pop song in the world, she can actually write some great folk/alt songs, as she proved on this and Folklore. I think the album is a bit too long and the songs start to blend together in the back half, but some really standout songs on here that I would listen to again. Top Songs: willow, no body, no crime, evermore

Just incredible! Heard so much of this before but never all the way through. It just keeps getting better and better. Kurt's vocals are so full of pain and torment and it elevates their sound to another level, with each song so full of heart and emotion. The guitars are so clear and sound amazing. I have to go 5 because this is a cohesive listening experience and sequence and I wouldn't skip or delete a single song. Perfectly executed. Top Songs: About a Girl, Come As You Are, The Man Who Sold the World, Dumb, Lake of Fire

Another album I was surprised to like more than I expected. Lyrically, it’s pretty meaningless, but the beats are always fun. I’ve never listened to this type of music before and while it’s still not what I would normally go to, I enjoyed some songs was more than expected. I love this album so much! Truly has some of the best songs of the 70s on here, and there is no doubt this is one of the most influential and important post-Beatles works. The signature slide guitar of George Harrison sounds so good here and the lyrics are beautiful. However, this is a very long album with a lot of material that I don’t think adds to it. Would go back to listen to 2/3 of these songs any time! Top songs: I’d Have You Any Time, My Sweet Lord, Wah-Wah, What is Life, Let It Down, Ballad of Sir Frankie Crisp

Objectively, they are extremely talented musicians. Clearly pioneered jam music in a lot of ways and I can respect that. As an album, it was just so long and the instrumental periods were felt so long. Was ready for it to end and unlikely to relisten.

This was interesting! I enjoyed listening but nothing exactly stood out to me. Feels slightly overrated as far as electronic, downbeat music goes. But a good listen overall and would revisit.

I’m definitely not the target demographic for this album, but it just wasn’t for me. Can appreciate it as a classic for rap music, but I would not revisit. This was awesome! Liked it way more than I expected. It was cohesive with a sound and point of view, but not repetitive. Guitar and vocals sounded great and made me want to explore more of their music. Top Songs: One More Hour, Things You Say, Dance Song ‘97

This was an interesting album and very different from the type of Bowie I have heard in the past! It's a cool sound and much more lowkey and ambient that usual. I enjoyed it, but nothing really stood out for me. I would revisit though. Top Songs: Speed of Life, Sound and Vision, Be My Wife

Struggling with rating this one because it has two of my absolute favorite songs (The Fairest of the Season, These Days) and I love her voice and singing style, but as a whole I don’t think it’s such a great album. Was surprised by some other songs I didn’t know but liked a lot (Chelsea Girls, I’ll Keep it With Mine). Just wish the production was overall stronger and cut down in places. It’s not a perfect album, but it’s undeniable how many great and influential songs there are on here. Many of my favorite from the era. It’s original, transgressive, and music that won’t get old. Had heard this before! I really like Pink Moon but I will say things started to blend together a bit after that, and nothing really stood out. I think I need to re-listen and pay closer attention. Love his voice and the style in general. Top Songs: Pink Moon

Never considered myself a major Lorde fan, and of course I’ve heard this album before, but it really just is so good. Every song has a point and a place, with its own vision. It really is just perfect. Top Songs: Green Light, Sober, Writer in the Dark, Supercut

Some great songs and moments on here. Love the country/blues sound and of course love his voice. Personally, I prefer his later stuff when it got deeper and out of the short blues tunes era, but still a strong and historically important album. Top Songs: Folsom Prison Blues, Cocaine Blues, Jackson

As a fan of Morrisey and The Smiths this all really worked for me. I had never heard any of these songs before, and while not as strong as his previous stuff in general, I still think this was a great album. Honestly, there is no one like Morrisey in terms of lyrics and taking an audience on a surprisingly musical journey. His mind is one of one. First couple songs are the weakest, but then it really picks up. A few standouts here I already will be adding to my rotation. Top Songs: I’m Not Sorry, First of the Gang to Die, Let Me Kiss You, The World is Full of Crashing Bores

Nothing amazing for me! Obviously some classic old time songs but as a whole project not super memorable. I think his later stuff is better, more personal and meaningful. But still Elvis! Top Songs: Blue Suede Shoes, I’m Counting on You, Blue Moon

This isn’t just an album, it is an experience. The concept from beginning to end is executed beautifully, and even in the slower moments I was waiting for more. The relisten value is so high, and I know I would get more out of it with each listen. It just clicked for me. Top Songs: I Talk to the Wind, The Court of the Crimson King

I can see why this is such an important album for blues, but just not my type of music. Nothing really stood out to me.

Those who get it, get it. And if you don’t get it, you need to expand your definition of music. Björk’s vision is singular and unique, and while this isn’t my favorite of her albums, this album puts her individuality on full display. Almost entirely made using only vocals, but it never loses your attention. It rises and falls like a heartbeat and syncopates with your brain in a perfect way. Just amazing, per usual! Top Songs: Where is the Line, Who Is It, Oceania, Mouth’s Cradle, Desired Constellation, Triumph of a Heart

This was a cool listen overall and I really enjoyed some of the moments. Wish it were in smaller song size pieces to really be able to appreciate those moments better. I feel like relistening would be a whole undertaking. But it was cool!

Absolutely perfect in every way. This album is a journey, and you can tell that every single note and word is placed perfectly. The production value takes it to another level, transcending genre. The Rip is probably one of the best songs of all time, and I loved all of them that I hadn’t heard before. Portishead can do no wrong. This was pretty lackluster for me. I feel like there are a lot stronger Motown albums and songs, even by this group. But still a classic sound and easy listening. Top Songs: Hey Girl, I Heard it through the Grapevine

This is the pinnacle of funk and soul music. Never heard this album or much of this group before but I was drawn in instantly and wanted to hear every note. Just so may rich soul sounds and takes you on a full experience from beginning to end. Top Songs: Just Like a Baby, Family Affair, Spaced Cowboy, Running Away

Some fun songs on here but ultimately just Dad rock. But this is like a better ACDC for me, more enjoyable and fun. Sharp Dressed Man always goes hard. Top Songs: Sharp Dressed Man, Gimme All Your Lovin’, Legs

An album I’ve listened to before but it doesn’t get old, such a classic alt-rock album that really was one of the first in that genre. Some of the best rock songs of all time on here. Some songs are skips for me, but there are a lot of highs and some of my favorites. Great album! Top Songs: Here Comes Your Man, Hey, La La Love You, Debaser, Wave of Mutilation

Not a memorable album for me. Not bad but nothing stood out songwriting wise.

This was an interesting album and a cool sound. Great trip-hop and overall a good vibe. I don't think it really stood out to me that much, especially compared to other trip hop albums I've had so far on here. But a cool sound and I'm glad I know about it now. Would go back and put on in the background again.

This was an enjoying album and a cool sound - I had never heard of them! Very Lou Reed adjacent with a fun but approachable punk-rock/pop sound. Love the singers voice as well. This is classic rock at its pique! I knew all of these songs because my dad loves Boston and we always listened to this album. I didn’t realize until this listen as an adult how perfect it is! Every song is a classic and doesn’t get old! This is truly the best 70s rock can be. Top Songs: Peace of Mind, More Than a Feeling, Something About You, Rock & Roll Band

This is a really cool album. I'm familiar with a lot of Gorillaz songs, but never sat down and listened to an entire album. It's such a consistent sound and fully realized listening experience. They know their sound and style and stick to it, while still being experimental. Great one! Top Songs: Tomorrow Comes Today, Re-Hash, Clint Eastwood, Double Bass, 19-2000, Slow Country

Surprisingly loved this! Like everyone else, I've heard Paper Planes my entire life, but it's actually just one of the many bangers on here. I thought the entire thing was great and didn't get tired. She has such a unique sound and perspective - the way this ties in so many genres is so impressive, and especially love the world music samples. It feels so cohesive and just a fun experience. I already want to revisit it. Top Songs: Bamboo Banger, Boyz, Jimmy, Come Around, Paper Planes

As someone who loves the Bee Gees' disco era, this was a bit of a let down. I can see why this isn't so highly rated. I think the songwriting is really what was lacking here. But they are still the Bee Gees, with absolutely beautiful voices, and have made some of the best music of all time. Not very interesting or exciting. I see why other acts of this era became bigger household names. Not a bad listen just plain.

This is one of the best albums of all time, and certainly one of the best debuts of all time. I first heard this album about 8 years ago, and it has never left my rotation since. It is without a doubt one of my all time favorites. There was so much controversy surrounding Fiona Apple and what the industry wanted her to be when this came out, but the music speaks for itself. It's poetic, genre defining, edgy, poppy, dark, and just beautiful in every way. Shadowboxer is one of my top 5 songs of all time. This album, and Fiona Apple in general, deserve way more recognition. Top Songs: Shadowboxer, Sleep to Dream, The First Taste, Carrion, Criminal

Like punk music but this didn’t do it for me. Wasn’t very catchy and I don’t think the album had much of a message or point of view.

They have an interesting sound and I appreciate how experimental and different they are, but none of the songs stood out to me on this. I think there are bands/albums that really define the post-punk era a lot better. Not a bad listen overall, but nothing amazing on here in my opinion.

Most of this sounded like the music that would play when a sexy woman walks into a room in an old movie.

This is not my type of music at all, so I couldn’t get into it. But for what it is it’s not so bad and had some enjoyable beats! I see why it’s highly rated for this genre.

Dylan is an incredible songwriter and that’s most true on this album. Some of his best songs and best writing is on display. Sure, not a big fan of his voice and often prefer when other artists sing his songs, but his voice isn’t bad at all on here. You can feel the personality in it and message in his words. It’s a classic for a reason! Top Songs: Visions of Johanna, I Want You, Just Like a Woman

A pleasant listen, and I see the influence on modern country music. But overall pretty dated, especially lyrically, and didn’t stand out for me.

Heard a lot of Van Morrison in my life, but never this album. It’s really a work of art in every way. Each song is its own world and its own story. I feel like every listen would allow a new discovery and revelation in the music. The arrangements are so complex and beautiful. Such an amazing album! I already liked Tom Waits from what I've heard, and so this did not disappoint - my favorite of his so far! Love the bluesy sound, and I thought the ballads were particularly interested and enjoyable. Jersey Girl is a highlight, such a great song. I enjoy reggae and overall like their sound a lot, but this was mid for me. None of the songs stood out and it sort of just faded into the background overall. But not unenjoyable by any means.

Really not a huge fan of the 90s rap I’ve heard here so far, but wasn’t too bad. Lyrics were bad but the beats were really good on some of them. Okay overall. Top Songs: The Shiznit, Lodi Dodi

This album encapsulates the best of 60s music to me. It’s folk and psychedelic, experimental, interesting lyrics and unusual sounds and instruments. Songwriting it great and Donovan sounds great. I already liked a lot of his songs but never listened to this album through. It’s really great! I see why this was so huge when it came out, but I have mixed feelings. It works way better as an album than a musical. I respect how much it pioneered the concept album, but the “story” is not very exciting for me. That said, it has some great standalone songs and a lot of filler. But it’s a fun listen overall. This is one of the best albums ever, period. Paul Simon cannot miss and this is at the top of his stuff. Lyrically perfection, and love how he brings in all different artists and sounds to appreciate other cultures and music styles. Wow, I was very surprised by this album. As a New Jerseyan, I've heard Springsteen my entire life, but I've never heard anything from this album before (outside of “Atlantic City”). I was so impressed by the stripped-down sound, the focus on the instruments, and his voice - but especially the songwriting and lyricism. This album is excellent: the perfect pop/rock/grunge sound, amazing songwriting, fun but also impactful songs. This is my favorite from Hole and just an all-time classic. I could see myself revisiting this album many times and growing on me even more. I feel like I would get something new out of every listen. Honestly, this is not a pleasant album to listen to. In fact, it's quite disturbing at times. I'm not against it for that, but it really isn't a fun time, nor is it supposed to be. I think Eminem achieves his goal of shock and anger with this album and pushes the bar on rap music and storytelling. That said, I won't be revisiting anytime soon.

I was already a Beck fan but had never listened to this album all the way through - I loved it! It's the type of album that makes a very cohesive listening experience. Some songs are stronger and more memorable than others, but the other ones are still great and create a great sound and vibe. Individually, it has some fun songs and beats. It made a nice background listen. But it’s about an hour too long and got very repetitive. I don’t see why this is a must listen ahead of so many others that didn’t make this list.

This is such an iconic album! Even just the cover art alone has to be one of the most recognizable in all of music. But the music itself also holds up so well. It's not perfect at every moment and definitely could have been cut down at times (European Son), but it has so many classic songs of this era that inspired so much of rock, pop, and alternative music. This was meh for me. I wanted to like it more but none of the songs stood out. It was an average 2000s rock album, nothing fantastic.

I continue to learn that I'm not a big fan of punk rock. This was fine, but quite annoying at times. It had some strong moments but I wouldn't listen again.

Like Nirvana, I feel like Joy Division and this album has such a dark energy around it considering what happened with Ian Curtis. But for me that adds to the appeal of this, the music, lyrics, and sound is so personal and you can feel what he was going through making this music. I understand and can appreciate why this is such a highly respected and regarded album, but it just is not for me. There are a ton of Kendrick songs I really like, from his first album and his new album, but nothing on here was so good to me. Alright is a hit, but otherwise just okay.

There is no doubt in my mind that this is one of the best albums of all time. I've listened through many times before and it always moves me. Listening again yesterday was an emotional journey and reminded me how perfect this album is from start to finish. It's a reflection of her life in her music that very few artists can pull off. Madonna has always been and will always be a controversial person, and I know we can't stop the misogyny that affects how people review her music, but I truly believe this album speaks for itself. It succeeds in everything: lyrics, production, vocals, pop, trip-hop, dance, electronic - it is the best of the best in every way. Not sure about this one. Not very exciting and nothing really stood out to me. Also the vague political messaging was pretty cheesy.

I didn't get it after the first listen, but after listen two I understood. "Wish You Were Here" is obviously the focal point of this album but it's such a good song, truly one of the best ever, that they get away with the other tracks being a bit unfocused. I feel like it's pretty difficult to go wrong with Stevie Wonder. Not every song is a standout, but still listening through is such a good vibe and I know I would enjoy more with every listen. Everything about this album is derivative... even down to the title he stole from a Mariah Carey song. Songs are boring and sound like knock-off Bob Dylan. And he seems like a pretty bad guy!

So on the fence here because individually this album has so many great CCR songs that I love. But listening through from start to finish I didn't think it was such a strong album overall. A bunch of skips on here that don't compare to the highlight songs. I think I would revisit and rereview soon, but going with a 3 for now. This album is perfection - so much has been said about it already but it never ever gets olds. It’s so mind blowing that she made this and never made another solo album, but she truly said everything with this. Ex-Factor is a top 10 song of all time for me. The songwriting is on another level, the production is incredible, the album tells a full story from start to finish. One of the best ever, hands down. So this album rocks. So fun, gay, and cinematic - but with depth and heart too! Listened a few times and could keep going. ‘Relax’ is an all time classic. I feel like this album transported me to a gay club in LA in the 80s and it’s awesome. This is an all-time rock classic. 'Paradise' has to be one of the best rock songs of all time and it does not get old. But every song on here is special in its own way. It’s meh! Very 2010 Apple commercial music. Just not interesting to me. I can barely remember it honestly.

There is nothing redeemable about this. It is a disgrace to music. I’m glad Nick Cave’s sound evolved, but it’s a shame our ears need to bleed for this. Awful, awful stuff.

This was fine! I liked the first couple songs enough but then it started to get a bit boring towards the end. Also was not crazy about the lead singer's voice. But not terrible.

Everything Leonard Cohen did was iconic and this album is no exception. It’s haunting and hypnotic, and makes it even more wild how close this was released to his death. This was okay! Not a bad listen at all and there are some interesting tunes and melodies on here. It's a cool psychedelic record. My issue is that is was very long and it needed to be cut down a bit. It got boring and sluggish in the middle and the end.

I really enjoyed this album. Definitely middle of the road 90s alt-rock, but I can see the influence in contemporary alt music. Loved the vocals and I think catchy tunes elevate this. Obsessed with this album. They literally just came out of nowhere with this and invented a brand new sound and style. Kraftwerk is at the very top of the list when thinking about groups that pioneered a new sound. There was nobody like them when they were making music, but even still nothing really compares. It's like if Mario Kart music were a two hour double album. I didn't want to like this at first but I understand the importance it had on the bluegrass and country genre. I got more into it in the second half and liked the instrumental stuff. But not something I would likely return to.

It was challenging to get through this album. The songs were just so bizarrely structured, but also really boring at the same time. I have no idea what they were trying to do with this or trying to say. Truly not a must listen.

I expected to really not like this because it's not my type of music, but I do see why this is so well regarded. It's full of raw emotion and feeling. I appreciate what they were getting across. Not something I would listen to regularly, but a well made record.

I like Nick Cave a lot but this one just wasn't for me. It's so dark and intense and very little to actually enjoy. Henry Lee with PJ Harvey was my favorite, but otherwise this was just fine. It's an interesting concept but in theory, not very fun to listen to.

I don't care what people say about Morrissey, he makes excellent music. It's a great album a really continues his work with The Smiths but in his solo journey. It doesn't quite have the same catchy riffs a Smiths record, but vocals and songwriting are still excellent. Suedehead is certainly one of his best songs ever and I don't think there are any bad ones on here. It's not perfect but really great. On paper, I feel like I should like George Michael more than I do, but this just doesn't do it for me. It's like Prince and MJ but just not as good. The hype is real. This is the crown jewel of Wonder's discography for a reason. It's just banger after banger. And even the songs I had never heard and aren't the most popular were still so good. I feel like I discovered even more of his classics on here. This elevates to new heights in ways his other albums don't. It's a fully realized vision and consistent sound. He's never sounded better. The absolute best of folk rock. There is too much to be said about this album and how important it was at the time and still is. Not to mention kicking off the careers of some of the greatest musicians ever. But it speaks for itself, just a wonderful listening experience with beautiful songs and storytelling. People who think this is generic pop music need their head checked! Maybe it sounds more common now, but let's remember that Madonna was the first to do it! She brought this combo techno, country, folk, rock, funk sound into pop music. Anyone who does it today is thanks to her. This is such an enjoyable album. So good! I can't believe this was their debut album, they really perfected their sound right from the get-go. Ugh, I want to like Sonic Youth so badly, but I just don't. This was literally just noise. On paper, I should love this band and know how big their influence is. But this album was such a struggle to get through. I just don't get it.

This really is an amazing album and the amount I appreciate it and enjoy it as a concept does not reflect the rating I am giving it. Kraftwerk is so cool and I really love their music. This is such a complete and thoughtful concept album. That said, it doesn't elevate on the individual song level that The Man Machine does for me. It becomes very monotonous and repetitive... kind of like a train. So cool though!
