Love love love.
I know people are saying that this is too new to be included, but sometimes you can tell that an album is going to be a classic.
And to those that say that there is nothing original here, you need to have a good long look at the world and try to find ANYTHING original….and good. And while you’re at it stop being a d**k.
This album stands out, it has the X Factor, like Taylor Swift. Can’t put your finger on it but there’s just something about it.
Pink Pony Club lives in my head rent free, and it is welcome.

The 1975 aren’t good enough to be so controversial. Discuss.

Porter Robinson
3/5
I cried, but more because I’m peri-menopausal and going through a lot. The music may have had a part to play but results are inconclusive.

Screaming Females
3/5
I enjoyed the energy but nothing spoke to me other than that.

Anaïs Mitchell

I was interested to find that the musical I had been listening to was a concept album first.
I think I preferred this one, it made more sense.

The Postal Service
3/5
Long, but quite charming.
Tame Impala
3/5
I feel I should know Tame Impala but I didn’t immediately recognise any of the music.
Not too bad though.
The Upsetters
3/5
I am female, Middle Aged, and as white as can be. I’m not quite at Ugg boot wearing level but I do love me a Starbucks. Yet give me some reggae and I feel something different. The feet tap, the head bobs, I feel warm inside.
Still not sure when I’d put this music on though.
Amadou & Mariam
2/5
It was an interesting mix and not unpleasant.
Childish Gambino
3/5
None of the tracks packed the punch of This is America, but boy is this person talented.
Haley Heynderickx
2/5
Mercifully short. I’ve never been a huge fan of this kind of music, but that’s on me and no reflection of the talent and effort that has gone into this album.
Chet Baker
1/5
Sorry chet, you’re not the one for me.
Childish Gambino
2/5
Still obvious talent but not for me this one.
Hombres G
3/5
What WAS this? I kinda enjoyed it…
Jellyfish
4/5
A surprising little gem nestled in here. Very much enjoyed. Vocals akin to manic street preachers front man, but lyrics very different.
MF DOOM
3/5
Is this a joke artist? Because if it is, they have an awful lot of talent. I was intrigued from the moment I opened the album.
Marillion
3/5
I only know the Marillion songs I hear on absolute radio 80s. This was a different album and I very much enjoyed it.
The Mountain Goats
3/5
I actually rather enjoyed this. Felt very unpolished but that was part of its charm, like listening to a talented neighbour play in their back garden.
Damien Rice
2/5
I bought this album off the back of cannonball but it never quite hit the mark for me. Still doesn’t.
Josh Ritter
2/5
Meh. Was ok but didn’t set my world on fire.
Arthur Russell
1/5
What an absolutely terrible album. As pretentious as they get, the only thing more pretentious is the review/description of it in Apple Music.
Gang of Youths
4/5
I really enjoyed this. Heard so Maccabees in there, and if you squint, some Divine Comedy. A lovely little Thursday surprise.
Savages
1/5
Absolutely not. Get out.
Courteeners
4/5
I really enjoyed this album and had apparently heard at least one of the tracks before. Who knew.
Billy Squier
3/5
It was ok. Like Kiss from Temu.
Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band
3/5
A solid offering from Mr Seger. Hollywood Nights and We’ve Got Tonight are classics. The rest were a lil vanilla.
Madvillain
2/5
I coped with the MF Doom album but this one was too much, or too little, or whatever.
Chappell Roan
4/5
Love love love.
I know people are saying that this is too new to be included, but sometimes you can tell that an album is going to be a classic.
And to those that say that there is nothing original here, you need to have a good long look at the world and try to find ANYTHING original….and good. And while you’re at it stop being a d**k.
This album stands out, it has the X Factor, like Taylor Swift. Can’t put your finger on it but there’s just something about it.
Pink Pony Club lives in my head rent free, and it is welcome.
Ian McDonald
3/5
Not as stuffy as the album cover suggests.
The Lumineers
3/5
I did enjoy. The Gun Song was a little off centre, but then it’s the only one I can remember so it has succeeded in some ways.
Pedro The Lion
2/5
Nondescript yet annoying. Best way to describe it.
Shudder To Think
1/5
If a low lying headache was an album. This was painful and in no way enjoyable.
Sampha
1/5
I don’t get it, what am I missing?
Extrechinato y Tu
2/5
Not for me. I think I’m old.
Death Cab for Cutie
3/5
It was ok. A little low and slow. No stand out tune for me.
Bran Van 3000
3/5
I actually enjoyed this album. There was lots of variety. Would I listen again? Maybe. Don’t say that about too many albums.
Sunny Day Real Estate
3/5
Grungy, enjoyable enough.
Roger Waters
3/5
A bit weird but pockets of great music.
GAS
1/5
Gas is about right because it was a lot of hot air.
blink-182
4/5
Fully enjoyable. I was more of a Sum-41 girl, not sure why, but this took me right back.
Unfortunately will never get my head round the whole Kardashian thing.
Snarky Puppy
1/5
I would rather listen to a classroom full of children on a windy day on the last day of term.
2/5
I think it was ok? It’s been two days and I can’t remember anything about it. Not ideal.
Kayo Dot
2/5
The opening track was almost enough to make me not want to listen to the rest of the album. I didn’t even know there was such a thing as rock-jazz but now I do. Not my kind of thing
Debbie Gibson
3/5
Kudos to Debbie Gibson for being a singer/Songwriter/performer/arranger, which is a massive achievement for anyone but even more massive for a woman in the period. But sadly this doesn’t make the music good.
Transvision Vamp
3/5
I didn’t know they had more than one song to their name, and I’m glad I do now.
They Might Be Giants
3/5
I love a bit of whimsy.
Garbage
3/5
Was never a huge Grabage fan but it does remind me of my best friend who was a fan, so that’s nice.
Switchfoot
2/5
I had to listen on Spotify so couldn’t listen to it in order and wasn’t sure when it ended.
Would I have known this was a Christian band if I hadn’t read it? I think so.
Did I mind? Not really,
Will I listen again? Heck no.
Jeff Rosenstock
3/5
Even after all the albums I was deceived by the artwork. It was interesting, didn’t dislike but didn’t light up my life.
Mustafa
3/5
Unexpected. Another albums where the artwork doesn’t match the vibe.
Was waiting for something to kick in, for the music to step up a shear but it never came.
The Avett Brothers
3/5
I had the opening track of this album on a playlist. There possibly wasn’t enough variety in the rest of the songs but I am very glad I heard the whole album.
The Posies
3/5
I had to listen to the live album as I couldn’t get the album on Apple Music. I didn’t mind it but didn’t set me alight.
Wussy
3/5
Really rather enjoyed this one.
The Marcus King Band
3/5
This was a lovely little surprise. I shall be listening again. Thank you internet.
Gurrumul
2/5
A bit too airy for me.
The Jesus Lizard
2/5
Not an album for me.
Killswitch Engage
2/5
A bit too rough and rocky for me
Tally Hall
3/5
It was the right side of quirky for me. Enjoyed!
The Sound
3/5
Not too bad but not a core memory.
Kano
2/5
Obvious talent but a bit shouty for me
Death
2/5
I would be really interested to know the reasons why someone chose a particular album. Music like this doesn’t speak to me but it obviously does to the person who chose it so to know the context would be invaluable. Unfortunately without that this is not an album I can get behind.
Sparks
3/5
I never used to like Sparks as I didn’t really understand them. The documentary film, for which I have only seen the trailers, did a lot to make them make sense.
John Mayer
3/5
It was pleasant enough but never seemed to reach a crescendo. Like a soul version of a boyband.
John Martyn
3/5
Worth the effort of listening to adverts in order to listen to the music.
Alex Cameron
1/5
The music is OK I guess, but the lyrics are appalling. Not sure if written by an AI or by a horrendous human being (precocious privileged prick) who thinks they can say what they want and use irony as a shield. Makes me sad that these people exist and that people listen to them.
Teenage Fanclub
3/5
It was ok. Some nice gentle Monday afternoon music. Not setting my world alight though.
The Chats
3/5
I thought I wasn’t going to like this album but it was honest and unashamedly punk.
It’s not my usual genre but I didn’t hate it.
Kaizers Orchestra
3/5
I didn’t know what to expect, but it was all rather enjoyable. Not sure I’d listen again though.
Fontaines D.C.
3/5
I actually really enjoyed this. Raw but not naked. Loved the accents.
Thee Oh Sees
2/5
Not for me. The album art gave me the ick.
Chromatics
1/5
The only song I enjoyed was a cover. The rest were dull dull dull
Chucklehead
2/5
Unmemorable I’m afraid
Freestylers
2/5
Not the music for me. Not sure what made this one stand out for the person who chose it, there must be a story behind it.
My Chemical Romance
3/5
I was looking forward to this one but it fell a little flat. I wonder if I would have liked it more if I was in a different place in my life.
Bad Religion
2/5
Nah mate. Sorry.
Roky Erickson
2/5
No. Too much rolling stones with too little Rolling Stones.
Marillion
3/5
This tasted like the 80s and I lapped it all up.
Not 100% my cup of tea but I let it play a second time so can’t have been too bad.
Hikaru Utada
3/5
I wanted to like it but it was just a little too dull for me.
Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass
2/5
Not sure I quite understand
TOOL
2/5
Not what I thought but not what I wanted
Amon Düül II
2/5
Shorty and…something, but not sweet.
The National
3/5
I enjoyed but it never seemed to reach a pinnacle.
Joe Cocker
2/5
I’m not a fan of a live album at the best of times, but I’m sure a massive fan of Joe Cocker would love this album.
Gotcha!
2/5
Not one for my personal collection. I didn’t hate it but was glad when it was over.
Anaïs Mitchell
3/5
I was interested to find that the musical I had been listening to was a concept album first.
I think I preferred this one, it made more sense.
Protomartyr
2/5
No, sorry. I think the Apple Music review put me off, it was so pretentious.
Khruangbin
1/5
Dull is too exciting a word to use to describe this album.
Screaming Females
3/5
I enjoyed the energy but nothing spoke to me other than that.
Sufjan Stevens
2/5
Never been a fan of the breathy, guitar heavy sound
The Alan Parsons Project
3/5
It was ok, just a bit long
3/5
Very Eels’y. Everything they do sounds a little bit the same, which is great if you like that sound.
The War On Drugs
2/5
It’s been less than 24hrs since I listened and I’m finding it hard to recall. But I don’t think I hated it.
Cardiacs
2/5
The music between the noise was enough to keep me listening through the pain. But I won’t be going back.
The Angelic Process
2/5
I didn’t think I would remember this album as I listened to it 5 days ago. And then I did remember and I wish I hadn’t. It was noise.
Frank Zappa
3/5
Short and sweet. A bit too distorted at times for me, and the lyrics were crazy.
Calibro 35
2/5
I saw “funk” and was immediately turned off.
Porter Robinson
3/5
I cried, but more because I’m peri-menopausal and going through a lot. The music may have had a part to play but results are inconclusive.
Maldita Vecindad Y Los Hijos Del 5to. Patio
2/5
A little bit too much of everything
Alexisonfire
2/5
Can’t remember it. That speaks volumes.
Pink Floyd
3/5
Short and sweet. Not as inaccessible as some other Floyd.
3/5
Cutesy but wasn’t enough to lift the album.
Graham Parker
2/5
Was that a song about rape just hidden in there? Definitely about abortion.
The only thing going for this album was that it was short. Oh, and I don’t have to listen to it ever again.
Courtney Barnett
3/5
A nice gentle album for a Monday morning, except I was listening to it on a Tuesday morning.
Angelo De Augustine
2/5
There’s only so much breathy, high pitched whispering I can take
Oingo Boingo
3/5
My interest was piqued with the mention of Mr Elfman. But Twas a little too much for me.
Faith No More
2/5
No thank you.
Titus Andronicus
2/5
Not really for me
Jack Johnson
3/5
This was one of those albums that was huge when it was released and I loved it. I desperately wanted to like banana pancakes (the food, not the song) but sadly I still don’t.
Listening again it was like an old friend who I had lost contact with, and on reconnecting I realised I hadn’t missed them at all.
Daniel Bélanger
2/5
Not my kind of music
Carly Rae Jepsen
3/5
“Your Type” has a definite Taylor Swift backing music.
Obviously has talent but this album didn’t get under my skin
Earth, Wind & Fire
2/5
A whole album was a bit much.
TOOL
2/5
Not my kind of music at all
The Dear Hunter
4/5
I was pleasantly taken aback by this album. Fascinating, intriguing, left me wanting more
TOOL
2/5
My heart sank. Two Tool albums in three days. Who did I anger??
It’s not for me.
Freddie Gibbs
2/5
Couldn’t get into this one.
Jai Paul
2/5
I made the mistake of reading the blurb about this album. Why are blurbs always so pretentious. It was ok but I couldn’t hear anything particularly special.
The Stooges
2/5
A bit shouty, and I don’t think listening to it quietly while I tried to work was the optimum listening experience
Karnivool
3/5
Didn’t float my boat, but didn’t sink it either.
The Cure
3/5
Not a huge fan of the Cure and this hasn’t done much to change that.
Wishbone Ash
3/5
I found this quite enjoyable. The last track was way too long but other than that it was a nice listen.
King Tubby
2/5
I am envious of people who can pick an album to go on this list, but sometimes I wonder how they got to that choice. Is this the best King Tubby album, or is it just the choosers favourite? I’ll never know either way.
Joe Jackson
3/5
I enjoyed! Didn’t think I would but it was a pleasant surprise. Like a more accessible Elvis Costello.
Modest Mouse
3/5
I had this on shuffle so I might not have gone on the journey the artists wanted me to.
Bloc Party
2/5
Ok I guess. I listened two days ago and can’t remember so….
Slowdive
2/5
Didn’t get me through the task I needed to do so marked down.
That Handsome Devil
2/5
A lil eclectic. Not really sure what category to put it in.
The Burning Hell
2/5
Not as bad as I was expecting.
Adam Green
3/5
Liked the quirk.
Stars
3/5
Not as angry as the title or the cover suggest.
3/5
Not usually my type of music but this hit different. Even the ones that I could compare to a brick in a washing machine.
It’s Monday morning too, I must have had a good weekend.
Phish
3/5
I’m not usually a huge fan of live albums, even if I have been present during the recording. And a preliminary reading of the reviews did make me take a big gulp when I realised it was over 2 hours long. But somehow, the live audience not only made me wish I was there but wish I knew all the in jokes too.
That being said, I won’t listen to this again.
Fontaines D.C.
3/5
I do like a band where you can hear the natural accent. This was interesting indie.
Sublime
3/5
In what world is this considered rock?
Interesting listen but I couldn’t get that question out of my head.
Type O Negative
1/5
This is the musical equivalent of an older person stating “just saying” after insulting everyone in the vicinity.
It’s the audio version of an ironic WhatsApp group where people are racist and sexist but it’s “just bants, and besides people can’t say anything these days without some snowflake getting offended”. It’s so far round the irony circle it’s firmly in the stable of the other side who genuinely think this. Utter tosh.
Godspeed You! Black Emperor
1/5
There’s a lot of talk about having to listen to this at the right time and place.
Where would this be? Genuinely what kind of activity would one be doing to put this album on and listen to it? I just don’t get this type of music. Is it background music?
Suffice to say I obviously didn’t find the right time and place.
Daft Punk
3/5
I’m sure it would have been better seeing them do this. It was a bit 2D.
Scraping Foetus off the Wheel
1/5
When I was 14 I wrote a story that I was hoping would shock the teacher reading it. Looking back it’s embarrassing now. I wonder if this band feel the same about their band name. I know you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, but I’m afraid I always judge a band by its name, and this one is going straight to jail.
As for the music, just couldn’t get behind it.
Cluster
2/5
Meh. Not for me. Not enough substance.
2/5
Did not set my world on fire,
Primus
2/5
I feel like there’s a pun in the title somewhere but I couldn’t quite get to itc nor could I be bothered to try.
This album felt like a chore.
LaBelle
3/5
Nice to hear the original Lady Marmalade. This certainly has an x-factor sound but not my usual type of music.
Tori Amos
3/5
I listened to the first half in the morning, and the second half in the afternoon.
I much preferred the morning session, not sure what that says about me or indeed this album.
Weezer
3/5
I saw the lead singer backstage at Reading festival one year in the early 00s. He was in an area where the public could be (competition winners, first aid workers etc) and he did not want to engage with anyone there, not even to say hello. I have not had a high opinion of this band since this whole encounter. And I bet they would hate this but time has shown that they are in the same genre as Blink-182 and Sum-41.
Nothing special here tbh.
The Amazing Devil
4/5
This was quite something. Will definitely listen again. Thank you to whoever added this.
Has definite musical overtones a la Hadestown.
Nik Kershaw
3/5
He fully embraced the electronic music movement. Nice to hear a whole album.
Mogwai
2/5
A little too long with too little substance
Salif Keita
2/5
This is really not my kind of music and I feel disappointed in myself for that.
Ty Segall
2/5
I’m not sure if this album is very pleased with itself or totally social unaware. Either way I shall not be inviting it back.
Steven Wilson
4/5
I didn’t think I was going to enjoy this album, but it was fascinating. Routine tugged at already stretched heartstrings.
Susanne Sundfør
3/5
This album felt like a bully. A track would start and I would think I wasn’t going to like it, then the track would do the old switcheroo into something beautiful. Other times there would be an absolutely haunting song that would transform into a jazz horror show. Still not sure about it.
Sports Team
4/5
Enjoyed this album a lot. Not sure if it just caught me at the right time and place, but I’m not mad at our situationship.
100 gecs
4/5
Frog on the floor cemented this album as a new favourite. More frogs!
INXS
2/5
This album did not benefit from the previous two albums I had listened to which were newer and different. So a stalwart of the 80s felt old and tired. Sorry INXS.
Jimmy Eat World
3/5
Nice to hear the origins of a song I have heard many times. But hasn’t made a dent in my mental music library.
Mary Chapin Carpenter
3/5
A nice gentle album which is what I needed today.
CAKE
3/5
I don’t know what to think. Original band? Covers? Who knows. It was ok.
Biffy Clyro
3/5
It was not bad but won’t be revisiting.
The Weeknd
2/5
I am intrigued to know why the person who submitted this album thought of the original 1001.
The first tracks all melded into one, until there was a peak at Blinding lights. But then it subsided again.
I’m not the demographic for this and that is my problem, not the album’s.
Richard Dawson
2/5
Oh lawd no. Who is this entertaining?
Bob Mould
3/5
Felt very modern and not nearly 30 years old. Reminiscent of a Welsh Indy band that I can’t remember the name of.
Jóhann Jóhannsson
2/5
I noped out. The point of this album most have whizzed over my head.
Jimmy Buffett
2/5
Short but…something.
Robyn Hitchcock
2/5
I really enjoyed the opening track; it was quirky but also good musically. But then the rest of the album happened.
The Decemberists
2/5
It was ok but didn’t set my world alight
Great Big Sea
4/5
Once o had realised that they weren’t doing cod Irish music and they were in fact doing traditional Newfoundland music I enjoyed this a lot more.
Bruce Springsteen
4/5
What a performer. To have a live album that sounds good and doesn’t exclude the audio listener - wow. The audience seemed very respectful too.
Touché Amoré
3/5
A bit shouty but I’m sure he had something to say.
Björk
2/5
I just don’t vibe with Bjork I’m afraid. I appreciate her existence and support her fully, but please don’t make me listen to the music.
Elmer Gantry's Velvet Opera
2/5
This smacks of a man who finds himself funny.
Les sheriff
2/5
Enjoyable enough but not one I shall be revisiting
Procol Harum
3/5
Shorter than it looked. Name of your….
Songs: Ohia
1/5
Did I listen to the same album as everyone else? What I heard was a whiny man child who simultaneously blames women for everything that is wrong and expects them to fix everything. I couldn’t get past the lyrics to enjoy anything of the music.
Vulfpeck
3/5
I totally agree with the person who said this album is like walking in on a group of people who have an in-joke. But it wasn’t a hostile environment, and I enjoyed listening to people have a good time.
Dave Matthews Band
4/5
The more I hear of Dave Matthews Band the more I like. I think it’s the name that puts me off, sounds stuffy.
System Of A Down
4/5
Took me back to when this was released.
Chop Suey was my son’s favourite song when he was about 3, and who can blame him.
Talk Talk
2/5
I was waiting for something to kick in but it never did.
Margot & The Nuclear So And So's
2/5
There was nothing on this album that stood out.
The 1975
3/5
Pleasant enough but not a keeper for me
Alexisonfire
2/5
A bit too shouty for me. I don’t understand this type of music but lots of people do so what does my opinion matter?
Crystal Castles
2/5
This was a bit too something and I was glad when it was over.
Times New Viking
1/5
Proof that there can be too much of a good thing. Distortion should be used sparingly, not as a panacea.
Martha
3/5
I did enjoy the regional accents but I agree with the person who said that this type of album is a dime a dozen. Nothing stand out for me. I’m sure if this was my jam and I heard this album first then I would love it, much like those who heard Denis Leary before Bill Hicks.
Neutral Milk Hotel
3/5
It okayed a few times because I got busy and didn’t bother changing it, so it didn’t annoy me that much.
Nuyorican Soul
1/5
Far too jazzy and far too long
Refused
1/5
Listened to it 2 days ago and can’t remember a thing
The Tragically Hip
3/5
Wasn’t what was expecting. Reminded me a bit of REM without the gravitas.
Sufjan Stevens
1/5
Please, we don’t need anymore of these. If you like this artist then you will seek out more, and if you don’t then one album was enough.
So dull, I was pining for the distortion pedal….
Godspeed You! Black Emperor
1/5
I think I have found myself on the wrong room at a party because a quick browse of the comments reveals most people in here love this album.
All credit to anyone who loves an album so much that they submit it to this list. I am yet to submit one so I am on rocky ground.
But why this album? What do y’all hear in this that I’m missing?
Vampire Weekend
4/5
A very enjoyable album by a band I know far too little about.
Unwound
2/5
Not one for my archives I’m afraid.
Talking Heads
3/5
Not a huge fan of live albums and this didn’t really have anything to make it stand out as a live albums. Not really sure what the motivation was here.
Guy Clark
3/5
I like me a bit of country and I enjoyed hearing the originals of some songs done by more well known artists. But by the end I was countried out I’m afraid.
Pigeons Playing Ping Pong
1/5
I gotta say I agree with most of the reviews I read - what an absolutely dull album for the listener. Is the person who submitted this in the band?
They even managed to make the Ghostbuster song about them.
Garmarna
2/5
This wasn’t the type of music I like but I shared it with someone who I thought might like it.
Stromae
2/5
Not in this heat.
Avicii
3/5
I thought I liked Avicii, but it turns out I liked a couple of songs that weren’t on this album.
Still a very talented person who left us too soon.
Rachel Stevens
2/5
I love that someone has put this on the list. I enjoy a pop album probably more than most, but I just didn’t get this one. Nothing against Rachel Stevens, more the factory which has pumped this out.
2/5
The 1975 aren’t good enough to be so controversial. Discuss.
Manchester Orchestra
2/5
This was an absolute chore.
Ornette Coleman
1/5
I’ve tried. I’ve tried and I’ve failed.
I hate jazz.
Harmonium
3/5
This album had me shook. I thought lt it was going to be an album of harmonium music, but then some gems of more mainstream songs can through. I’m not mad at it.
Operation Ivy
2/5
Is there such a thing as too much Ska?
Yes, yes there is.
Yo La Tengo
3/5
A bit of a mix. At times very 90s indie, others quite Simon and Garfunkel. The album cover does not convey the contents.
Polvo
2/5
I am interested in why this is someone’s favourite album but not interested in the album itself.
David Baerwald
2/5
Another album where the artwork goes against the content.
It was ok but couldn’t really recall it the next day.
Amyl and The Sniffers
2/5
Another band who seemed to have gone through a lot and yet I still don’t appreciate the effort. Sorry.
Lo Fidelity Allstars
2/5
Felt quite tired and of its time. Can imagine it’s a good listen if you have good memories attached, but I do not.
Avenged Sevenfold
2/5
A bit tame, even by my standards.
Not my thing. But I’d really like to know why it was the submitters thing.
Boards of Canada
1/5
No. Please make it stop. Oh, I can do that myself? Amazing.
Os Mundi
1/5
Jazz, church music, wailing. Who thought this was a good idea?
Do people suggest albums that they like, or that they think other people should hear but that doesn’t make them good?
Some people just want to watch the world burn I suppose.
Spose
3/5
I’m glad o didn’t check how long the album was before I started because I would have gone in with a bad attitude. I was 3/4 through before that attitude kicked in, and by then it was too late.
I liked Dudes.
The Breeders
2/5
At least I know where that bit of music comes from now.
I hope the Royalties from that have afforded them a comfortable life.
Crash Test Dummies
5/5
My face lit up when I saw this was the album of the day for me.
This was one of the first bands I liked and sought out more music from. The previous album, The Ghosts That Haunt Me, I adore.
I love a quirky album with good music and great lyrics, but I get that others might not.
Arctic Monkeys
2/5
A bit dull tbh!
Shania Twain
2/5
I used to love listening to a Shania Twain track yet somehow now they all sounded the same. Must be my aging ears.
HELLYEAH
2/5
Why is the artwork so bad?? Not a keeper.
Nightwish
2/5
Why is the album artwork so bad??
The music ain’t all that either.
Olivia Rodrigo
4/5
Well this was a little ray of sunshine in my midweek slump.
I had preconceptions which were shattered and I’m here for it.
Some of these songs spoke to me in my mid 40s, and it would definitely have spoken to me in my younger years.
The Caretaker
2/5
I feel like this is a soundtrack to a game like Fallout.
It soundtracked a dull task at work and didn’t help at all.
blink-182
3/5
I do like a bit of Blink-182 and glad that I got to listen to a whole album. Not sure I’d do it again though.
Dead Boys
2/5
Not my kind of music. Also can’t take someone seriously who says they don’t need no mum and dad in the deep voice.
Final Fantasy
2/5
No, sorry. I have just come back from a terrible holiday and I could do without this. I don’t know what it’s for, or who it’s for. Not for me that’s for sure.
Lady Gaga
4/5
Loved this album when it came out. Not sure it has the same impact now. I think Lady Gaga is amazing though.
Neil Cicierega
3/5
Ok. Firstly, I did not appreciate having to listen on You Tube.
Secondly, soooo much Smash Mouth.
Thirdly, I get the concept of “if it isn’t broken don’t try to fix it” but maybe change things up every now and then? Never been so glad to hear some Enya.
Finally - it was a bit much. I think this sort of concept is a little and (not so) often kinda thing.
Emicida
3/5
I worried it was going to be jazz. It wasn’t, hurrah!
The B-52's
3/5
A great album for those that love the B-52’s. (I’m guessing).
Streetlight Manifesto
3/5
Yeah, was nice enough.
Medeski, Martin & Wood
2/5
Two days have passed and I can’t even remember this album.
The Hold Steady
3/5
It was ok. Not sure where this goes though, if you know what I mean.
Bon Iver
2/5
There’s a guy on instagram who tells funny stories from his past using auto tune (Kevin James Thornton if you want to look him up) This album made me want to watch him rather than listen to this album.
I don’t get the Bon Iver hype and this time I am not taking responsibility of this as a me problem.
Vangelis
2/5
I like chariots of fire, but this was a bit much. Perhaps if I knew the film better I might have engaged more.
Status Quo
3/5
It was ok - I didn’t suddenly become a Status Quo fan.
Ween
2/5
No, sorry everyone.
John Coltrane
1/5
No. Jazz is not big and it’s not clever. “But is it just that you are challenged by the music going in a different direction to your expectations?!” No. Who likes to find out their chocolate muffin is in fact a blueberry muffin? No one.
Jazz is made by people who think they are better than they are and liked by people who think they are better than everyone else. I said what I said.
Jimmy Eat World
3/5
I was vaguely aware of this band but hadn’t been aware of hearing their music. It wasn’t bad. They can use that quote on their next album.
Cat System Corp.
2/5
Having to listen on YouTube put me in a bad mood so this album was already doomed.
Pearl Jam
3/5
I enjoy Pearl Jam when I listen to them, but I don’t ever want to listen to them voluntarily.
King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard
2/5
The name is off putting, as well as the fact my ex is a fan, but they weren’t as weird as I thought they’d be.
Mull Historical Society
2/5
I don’t know, do I like them? Are they annoying? Who are they? What’s their remit?
ISIS
1/5
No thank you. Quite unpleasant.
Korn
3/5
Not a massive Korn fan but I didn’t hate it.
Boy Azooga
2/5
I don’t think I hated this but tbh I can’t remember what it sounded like at all and it has only been 24 hours. Do what you will with that information.
Jason Isbell
2/5
I normally like a plinky guitar strumming sound but this just didn’t hit the spot on one listen.
Noname
1/5
You know when you’re in a car with the indicator on, and the person in front of you also has their indicator on, and you try and match up the tick-tock of yours with the on off of the light in front, and it syncs for a brief 2-3 seconds and then it is lost and all you are left with is disappointment and a feeling of futility for everything? That was this album.
The Tragically Hip
3/5
I quite enjoyed this. Reminded me of something but can’t remember what it is now.
The Vaccines
3/5
I knew more of these tracks than I thought I would.
If this album had come out earlier in my life I think it would have been a firm favourite.
Sam Fender
2/5
Ok, so I have championed another 2025 album but I think I have to draw the line here. To me this album doesn’t stand out, I cannot see this as a classic. There is nothing to differentiate it from any other male soloist. It just sounds like the Killers. I said what I said.
Chloe x Halle
1/5
Not really my thing, sorry.
What was this?! It did feel like a whole album of the same tune, and some questionable lyrics. I’m still confused
Portishead
2/5
I remember watching them perform their debut single on TOTP and being very excited about them being a local band (local in that Portishead is about an hour away lol) and being disappointed that I didn’t like them more.
They have a distinct sound, but it’s not my kind of music.
The Chameleons
2/5
I had no recollection of this album 3 days after listening. So not a keeper.
THE SPORTS
3/5
As other people have said, very reminiscent of other bands of the 80s, but that’s not a bad thing.
Kashmir
2/5
I had a meeting so had to stop listening. When I came back to it I didn’t know if I’d listened to the whole thing or not. Unsure what that says.
Charli xcx
3/5
Didn’t quite have the charm of Olivier Rodriguez, but then it’s a different style. I am more pop and less dance. There is still obvious talent here though. And I did enjoy finding out that Charli xcx did the vocals on the Icona Pop song.
Daft Punk
3/5
I feel the impact of this album has diminished over time. I wish I could go back and hear it as new.
Beyoncé
3/5
I want to like this because James Acaster ranks it but I’m not sure if I do.
Also, this is a big reason why I changed my name to Rebecca over Becki (with an i, never with a Y) not because I don’t have good hair but because of the connotations a Becky has thanks to this album.
Electric Callboy
3/5
Short but sweet. I didn’t mind it
Yoko Ono
1/5
Oh lawdy. I really wanted this album to prove wrong the preconceptions I have about this artist but it did the complete opposite. Worse than jazz.
Joan As Police Woman
3/5
Pleasant enough but the place that this album met me was not a happy one so I won’t have good connotations to this.
Yeasayer
2/5
Not really for me.
Turnpike Troubadours
2/5
This was a bit too honkey tonk for me, and that’s coming from a massive country fan.
Igorrr
3/5
I don’t k le what this was or is but I needed that scream.
"Weird Al" Yankovic
3/5
I like a parody song but I’m not sure I needed a whole album of it. Some songs I didn’t even know the original which made it a bit tricky.
Various Artists
4/5
So can we all agree that the story of Rocky Horror doesn’t quite make sense?
Now we have that elephant in the room addressed, we can acknowledge that the music is fabulous.
I don’t think I could ever go to see it live because of the type of people who go and see it live would ruin it. I want to see the show not the audience.
“I’m going home” is beautiful. Tim Curry is a national treasure and Richard O’Brien deserves all the riches this has afforded him.
New Model Army
2/5
I listened to this album over a couple of days so it felt very long and a bit of a chore.
The name New Model Army used to scare me but I don’t know why.
Floating Points
1/5
Not my vibe at all I’m afraid. Happy for those that it is, but don’t go putting this on during a road trip or I’ll be putting in AirPods.
Boredoms
1/5
No.
When is this album ever appropriate to listen to?
I repeat, no.
Agalloch
2/5
Not my kind of music. Didn’t do anything but sit of the surface of my ear drums.
King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard
2/5
They are not good enough to warrant this many entries.
Stop trying to make King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard happen.
Reincidentes
3/5
This album was full of surprises and I did not run away from them. I enjoyed!
Ex-Easter Island Head
2/5
Its genre is classical?
Ok.
Men I Trust
2/5
It was jazz. This was never gonna land well with me.
Shihad
2/5
Oh lawdy, it’s been two days and I can’t remember a thing about it.
The Groundhogs
3/5
I don’t know why but I thought this was going to be an American Civil War based album. I think it must have been a cursory glance at the artwork.
I didn’t mind it.
BABYMETAL
3/5
I thought this was a solid album! Not what I would have chosen to listen to myself, but that’s the point of doing this.
WHY?
3/5
It was not as bad as I was expecting but unmemorable I’m afraid.
The Notwist
2/5
It was not my kind of thing but I didn’t hate it.
Descendents
2/5
I can see how this kind of punk morphed into Blink-182 and Sum-41.
Let’s just say I didn’t match the energy of this.
Magdalena Bay
2/5
I accidentally put the first song on repeat so we weren’t off to a great start.
It was a bit…I don’t know what.
Harry Styles
3/5
A couple of absolute bangers and the rest is a little - nothing. Still have a lil oft spot for him though.
4/5
Very much enjoyed this and even knew some! Although I don’t know where from.
The Heads
3/5
A nice little collection with some known voices but not one I’d return too.
BABYMETAL
3/5
I really enjoyed this album too. Especially the live track. Such clear/clean vocals.
Café Tacvba
3/5
I quite enjoyed listening to this even though I had no idea where to put it in my brain.
Wouldn’t turn it off if it came back on but wouldn’t actively seek it out.
Living Colour
3/5
Another “don’t know what I was expecting but it wasn’t this” album. Didn’t hate it, didn’t love it. The opposite of marmite?
Built To Spill
3/5
I didn’t mind it but I couldn’t remember it to three days later so had very little impact I’m afraid.
That’s not to say it wouldn’t have if I gave it more time.
Ween
3/5
It was jolly enough and had some variety which was nice.
Mylène Farmer
2/5
Not a huge breathy vocals fan.
The Beautiful South
4/5
Always nice to hear some Beautiful South. Don’t Marry Her changed meaning over the years for me and it doesn’t sit all that comfortably now. But still a banging tune.
Brand New
2/5
I was raging when I thought I had to listen to this on YouTube, but that subsided when I found it on Apple Music.
I didn’t hate it.
Yellowcard
3/5
Not what I was expecting from the album cover. Not 100% my kind of music (unless it was included in a Scrubs soundtrack) but I didn’t mind this.
Powderfinger
3/5
I listened but I didn’t hear.
It can’t have been too bad though.
Not as bad as being fired. Yay me.
Comus
1/5
Not one for me. What I am sure is a relaxing and soothing album for some was a cheese grater on styrofoam for me.
Rodríguez
3/5
An eclectic little mix of songs. Quite enjoyed.
Chuck Berry
3/5
I do like a bit of Chuck Berry, but only a bit. I think less is more.
Deafheaven
2/5
Just, why?
Fascinates me how some music appeals to people.
Nujabes
1/5
Oh gosh, it’s very kind of you but no thank you. Please just leave me alone now.
Ornatos Violeta
2/5
I couldn’t work out what language it was in - was it French? Was it Russian? Was it English and I was having a stroke?
Still don’t know but that’s ok.
Deltron 3030
2/5
I enjoyed the voices and felt smug that I identified one of the Gorillaz vocalists - but this was a bit much for me all in one go.
Black Devil Disco Club
2/5
I didn’t like the artwork but quite liked the music - until the music didn’t change throughout the whole album.
Koritni
3/5
Another album where the terrible artwork works against some good music. Get better designers!
R.E.M.
3/5
Classic REM. Very enjoyable if not a bit middle of the road.
Chris de Burgh
3/5
A Christmas song in October was just what I needed.
But also…why is it a Christmas song? It’s like Humpty Dumpty all over again, where nowhere does it mention he’s an egg.
Screeching Weasel
2/5
What a great band name.
The music was like mono-Greenday.
Spinvis
2/5
Yeah, it was ok.
Blackalicious
2/5
I didn’t notice when this album ended and went onto other music of the same ilk, so that’s good?
Rita Ora
2/5
It was ok I guess. I think I prefer Rita Ora as a person than I do her music.
Tosca
1/5
I’m afraid this felt like the worst kind of hold music.
Johnny Winter
3/5
I’ll take album art doesn’t match album content for £1,000,000 please.
Quite the surprise!
Hamilton Leithauser
3/5
There were times I felt this had nothing new to add to the music scene, then a song came along and I thought hello, and then it sounded like someone else…all in all not too bad.
Swans
1/5
I tried, I really tried. But it’s a no from me.
Denzel Curry
2/5
I started listening, went to take a shower, came back and wasn’t sure if the teach had moved on or not.
Doesn’t speak to me in the same way as some other rap albums.
The Who
3/5
I think I need to watch the film for this album to make sense.
Mind you, Tommy didn’t really make full sense to me either.
Louis Armstrong
1/5
This was a hard listen because, well, Jazz.
But what really put me off was an album that played after - how did anyone ever think that was music worth listening to??
First Aid Kit
3/5
Enjoyable but a little bit depressing if you aren’t in the same headspace.
Also, they need to stop relying on men for their happiness…
Lift To Experience
2/5
Never has an album had me thinking “wtf is this?” as much as this one has.
Is it serious? Is it a parody? Or is it a concept album? You decide, because I can’t.
Jaco Pastorius
2/5
Didn’t need this first thing Monday morning, especially my first day on a new job. But hey, we move.
Enter Shikari
3/5
Some shouting made way for some nice melodies. Reminded me of Hundred Reasons.
Paul McCartney
3/5
Enjoyable enough. A bit weird at times, but then so were the Beatles.
Bohren & Der Club Of Gore
1/5
Why? Of all the music in the world this is the one you chose??
Michael Hurley
2/5
Pleasant enough but not an album I will return to probably
Duncan Dhu
3/5
I really enjoyed this album until it didn’t end. Far too long for its impact to be, um, impactful.
Wet Leg
3/5
I wanted to get the hype but I don’t.
Weezer
2/5
Really bland tbh.
Bon Iver
3/5
Very atmospheric. Fitted my mood at that moment but I don’t want to relive that anytime soon.
Everything Everything
4/5
My heart sank when I saw the length of this album, but I was cleanly surprised. One, possibly two songs will make it onto my “nice songs” playlist list.
Glass Animals
2/5
Not really for me. A bit meh
Future Islands
2/5
Another meh. Not what I needed on this stormy Friday.
Porcupine Tree
2/5
No memory of this
The Tragically Hip
2/5
It was short and unobtrusive
Kenny Wayne Shepherd
2/5
I love me a country album, but an hour and 22 minutes was a little intimidating.
Also didn’t really stand out as anything more than country I’m sorry to say.
Bo Burnham
3/5
I love a comedy album probably more than most. But I think I am too old for this to connect with me, not because of the content but because I’ve heard it done before (and perhaps a little better, I’m sorry)
But of this was the first comedy album I ‘d ever heard I would probably like it more.
Pop Will Eat Itself
1/5
Too long and too samey.
Current 93
1/5
Some of you are taking the Mickey. Why?! What did I ever do to you?!
Bon Iver
2/5
I am not a moody young person driving through misty mountains in America. This album had less impact doing a standard commute to my office job.
Billy Strings
3/5
Perhaps I don’t like country music as much as I thought.
Frightened Rabbit
3/5
Pleasant enough. Sounded a bit like Biffy Clyro.
Auri
3/5
A little too generic. Not enough Finnish
Aesop Rock
3/5
I enjoyed this album. Didn’t think I was going to but I did.
Baroness
2/5
Started weak then very quickly went big. The relentless drums were a bit much for me.
Mac Miller
1/5
I was interested to listen as I’d only heard the name before. And I would be interested to know what the attraction is to this album. No shade, just I thought the music was dull and basic, the lyrics we basic and sparse, the vocals were not enough to carry the other two. But he obviously had/has a fan base. I just didn’t get it.
Zamilska
2/5
Not my kinda vibe. Too ethereal
Barenaked Ladies
4/5
I really enjoyed this. Had real Beautiful South/Housemartins vibes, to the point where they are almost identical at times. Not a bad thing!
Fall Out Boy
3/5
I don’t think I’m the target audience. Would I have been? Still not sure. Elton John was a nice little surprise.
Depeche Mode
3/5
Yeah, it was ok. A bit too electronical to be my absolute favourite but I didn’t mind it.
