Popular Reviews

We Are Family by Sister Sledge

04/08/2022 Bops on bops on bops! The girls just wont quit! Listened on Spotify, and the final 3 tracks are 24 mins of extended disco remixes, and I honestly unlocked a new level of homosexual after listening.

Country Life by Roxy Music

03/16/2022 Even my gay ass loves that cover; if only the album was even half good.

The Hangman's Beautiful Daughter by The Incredible String Band

02/23/2022 Truly one of the worst things I've ever listened to. Both horrible and annoying from start to finish. Absolutely terrible. I'm angry!!!

21 by Adele

06/04/2022 What can be said that hasn't already? Beautiful voice, aching passion, etc. You feel the heartbreak and hurt as if it was your own.

2112 by Rush

04/03/2022 Really great stuff here. Loved the 20-minute opening track; it takes you on an entire journey from start to finish. So many ways this could have been awful, and there are already multiple albums on this 1001 list that have tracks that are SO much longer than is really necessary, but this one hit just right. Such a great listen.

Talking Book by Stevie Wonder
Dec 31 2021

Really beautiful, but not one I would check back on specifically.

From Elvis In Memphis by Elvis Presley
Jan 01 2022

Standouts here are: • Only the Strong Survive • I’ll Hold You In My Heart • I’m Movin’ On • True Love Travels on a Gravel Road • Suspicious Minds

OK Computer by Radiohead
Jan 02 2022

Standouts here are: • Karma Police • No Surprises • The Tourist Lots of vocals that were unpleasant to listen to. If you dig it, I’m happy for you! This is decidedly *not* for me.

Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness by The Smashing Pumpkins
Jan 03 2022

Wow, I thought a two-hour runtime was self-indulgent, until I discovered there’s a SIX hour edition. Girl, bye. Standouts here are: • Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness (title track) • 1979 • Beautiful • Lily (My One and Only) • Farewell and Goodnight

Live At Leeds by The Who
Jan 04 2022

Love THE WHO, but live albums... are not what I want to listen to. Also, this one doesn't even sound all that great!

Be by Common
Jan 05 2022

Damn, the production's off the charts here. It's all so smoooooth. Really happy to have experienced this one, because I don’t think I would have otherwise. Standout tracks: - Be (Intro) - The Corner - It’s Your World

Jan 06 2022

Another live album? 🥴 🥴 🥴 Palpable energy and soul here, but that crowd is so jarring and distracting.

Crazy to me that they only released one album. Chaotic from start to finish; no wonder it's stuck around for so long. Also, this is some really great stuff to workout to.

The Clash by The Clash
Jan 08 2022

Classic and iconic punk rock that has the ability to transport you right back to 1970s London. Standouts here are: • Janie Jones • Remote Control • What’s My Name • Police & Thieves

Jan 09 2022

Have always hated metal and the yelling with a passion… was not excited to listed to this one when it came around. Time and tastes change though, and there are so many sickening guitar licks, it’s kind of impossible not to enjoy just a little bit. 1.5hrs is quite a long album length, though!

I See A Darkness by Bonnie "Prince" Billy
Jan 10 2022

Had never heard of this guy before. It was a nice surprise… Very dark and depressing lyrics. Loved it. … However, I did not like having to listen to this via YouTube because it is not on Spotify. The random loud-ass insurance ads between each song really sucked.

In A Silent Way by Miles Davis
Jan 11 2022

Can’t go wrong with any of this. Driving, chilling, working, eating, partying, unwinding. It’s always a good time to put on Miles.

Midnight Ride by Paul Revere & The Raiders
Jan 12 2022

Crazy that I had never even heard of this band before today. Super-into the classic 60s rock'n'roll vibe; miss this kind of music that just doesn't get made anymore. Maybe not a truly "5" album, but it's so refreshing to listen to.

Iron Maiden by Iron Maiden
Jan 13 2022

I liked this! Less heavy metal than I expected... which was a good thing. Really appreciated the lack of extreme screaming and yelling.

Lady In Satin by Billie Holiday
Jan 15 2022

Nice and the orchestral backdrop is beautiful. A little boring... and it all sounds the same. Sorry!

Jan 18 2022

Hip-hop icons. Some really, really great tracks here. Glad to finally have given it a listen. It's a classic for a reason.

Shaka Zulu by Ladysmith Black Mambazo
Jan 19 2022

SO relaxing and cool. No clue what they're singing, but that's okay!

Emperor Tomato Ketchup by Stereolab
Jan 20 2022

The 4 stages of my listening experience: 1. Really actively dislike this. 2. Only on the third song, and ready to be done. 3. Music shouldn't be a chore to listen to. 4. Ugh!

Raising Hell by Run-D.M.C.
Jan 21 2022

Absolute bangers. Not a fan of “Perfection” and “Hit and Run” but the rest are so much fun!!!

Paul's Boutique by Beastie Boys
Jan 22 2022

The production and samples used are off the charts. A classic for a reason.

Parachutes by Coldplay
Jan 23 2022

Decent enough. I find Chris’ voice to become a bit insufferable after a while. Singles from this album are good.

The Man Machine by Kraftwerk
Jan 25 2022

Computer noises and robotic voices. Neat...

Jan 27 2022

Probably would be upped to a 5 if I had a nice glass of whiskey with me as I listened. Really great stuff.

This Year's Model by Elvis Costello & The Attractions
Jan 28 2022

Fun new-wave sound. Radio, Radio is great and such a good song to end on.

Germfree Adolescents by X-Ray Spex
Jan 30 2022

Found a shitty YouTube upload of the album. Cool use of the saxophone, but I’m not digging the punk sound overall.

3 + 3 by The Isley Brothers
Jan 31 2022

Groovy as hell. Undeniably great.

Led Zeppelin II by Led Zeppelin
Feb 01 2022

An all-timer. No skips. Just great music start to finish.

Billion Dollar Babies by Alice Cooper
Feb 02 2022

Pretty good! A little spooky and a fun bit of energy throughout.

Maverick A Strike by Finley Quaye
Feb 03 2022

02/02/2022 Nice little album to kick-back and listen to on a sunny weekend.

Feb 04 2022

02/03/2022 So much angst, I love it. She's a rockstar, for sure!

Eliminator by ZZ Top
Feb 05 2022

02/04/2022 A CLASSIC! Will never get old. Easiest 5-star yet.

Clandestino by Manu Chao
Feb 06 2022

02/05/2022 This one rules. No skips. Love the vibe.

Come Away With Me by Norah Jones
Feb 07 2022

A beautiful voice on a record where all the songs sound the same. Title track's still a standout after all these years, though.

Blonde On Blonde by Bob Dylan
Feb 08 2022

02/07/2022 Lol, no. I can't stand this guy's voice and wow, harmonicas sure are annoying, too! Happy for those that like it, though.

Born In The U.S.A. by Bruce Springsteen
Feb 10 2022

02/09/2022 + Classic summer rock. + Absolutely LOVE "I'm On Fire" - such a surprising song with unexpected vulnerability. + Packed with other classic singles that stand the test of time. Really, really great stuff here.

Feb 11 2022

Not many stand-outs aside from "Maggie May," but still worth a listen, and was better than expected.

Layla And Other Assorted Love Songs by Derek & The Dominos
Feb 12 2022

02/11/2022 Some very looooonnnngggggg songs, that began to feel like a chore to get through. Layla is, of course, a classic. I also really dug the opening track, too.

The Number Of The Beast by Iron Maiden
Feb 13 2022

02/12/22 Fucking awesome. Absolute 5-stars from start to finish. Loved this album!

xx by The xx
Feb 14 2022

02/13/22 Omg what a surprise to see this pop up. Throwback to minimal “low-effort” indie pop/rock. Olds will hate it, of course, but it’s a great, dreamy album.

The Hour Of Bewilderbeast by Badly Drawn Boy
Feb 15 2022

02/14/22 "Garden State" movie soundtrack rejects, lol. Good for a mellow, rainy day.

Rejoicing In The Hands by Devendra Banhart
Feb 16 2022

02/15/2022 Chill, laid back tunes. Really nice acoustic guitar and lyrics. More rainy weekend music, but there's a lot to enjoy and appreciate here.

Sail Away by Randy Newman
Feb 17 2022

So that’s why Disney hired him for so many of their soundtracks.

I Am a Bird Now by Antony and the Johnsons
Feb 18 2022

Was not expecting the voice… strange, unique, and hauntingly beautiful.

The Real Thing by Faith No More
Feb 19 2022

Nice, and enjoyed more than I was expecting!

Illmatic by Nas
Feb 20 2022

Life’s a bitch, and then you die.

The Velvet Underground & Nico by The Velvet Underground
Feb 21 2022

02/21/22 I was always under the assumption that it was grungy punk-rock, so I never gave them a shot or even an attempt at listening, despite the constant praise. Wow, how wrong I was! Heroin's a great one, but got in trouble at work for the wild guitar strings at the end, lol. :-/

White Blood Cells by The White Stripes
Feb 22 2022

02/21/2022 A couple good songs! Nothing close to an all-timer, though! Some of y'all are crazy with these 5-star ratings.

Scott 4 by Scott Walker
Feb 23 2022

02/22/2022 Sounds old as shit and is super boring. Get outta here with this.

The Hangman's Beautiful Daughter by The Incredible String Band
Feb 24 2022

02/23/2022 Truly one of the worst things I've ever listened to. Both horrible and annoying from start to finish. Absolutely terrible. I'm angry!!!

Beggars Banquet by The Rolling Stones
Feb 25 2022

02/24/2022 Charges out of the gate with "Sympathy For The Devil" but then looses steam with (still good) blues rock. Once classic song doesn't make an album a classic.

Heroes by David Bowie
Feb 26 2022

02/25/2022 He's a weirdo for sure, but how can you not love him?

Penthouse And Pavement by Heaven 17
Feb 27 2022

02/26/2022 Fun synthpop from a band I’ve never heard of. Only half the album is available on Spotify, which was a bummer. But of those that I was able to listen to, they were tons of fun!

Cheap Thrills by Big Brother & The Holding Company
Feb 28 2022

Janis Joplin's vocals are just insane: wild, raw and exploding with power. Don't fuck with her.

Odessey And Oracle by The Zombies
Mar 01 2022

Such a good 60s pop album. Impossible not to smile while listening to This Will Be Our Year. Care of Cell 44 is a great one, and of course, the classic Time of the Season!!!

Deep Purple In Rock by Deep Purple
Mar 04 2022

03/03/2022 Had to track down the majority of the album on YouTube because Spotify only has 2 tracks available. WILD guitar work on this.

Bandwagonesque by Teenage Fanclub
Mar 06 2022

03/05/2022 Had some fun with this one! Power-pop/rock with LOTS of similarities (to me, at least) to Weezer, with a bit more grunge. Glad to have found this!

Night Life by Ray Price
Mar 07 2022

Sorry, Ray. Cigar lounge realness with this one.

Mar 08 2022

03/07/2022 Really enjoyed this one. 80s pop romanticism in all the best ways.

Brothers In Arms by Dire Straits
Mar 09 2022

03/08/2022 Great album. So many childhood memories flashed back of driving around with my dad with the windows down and the warm summer sun. Nice to remember the good times.

Yeezus by Kanye West
Mar 10 2022

03/09/2022 This man is so annoying thanks to his public persona and association with Kim. So rich and still so angry. Can't lie though... the beats and lyrics are on fire.

Heavy Weather by Weather Report
Mar 11 2022

03/10/2022 Not at all the jazz that I expected it to be. This is so energetic and funky as hell. Really fun album!

Illinois by Sufjan Stevens
Mar 12 2022

03/11/2022 One of my favorite albums.

Moss Side Story by Barry Adamson
Mar 13 2022

03/12/2022 Not for me. At all.

Abraxas by Santana
Mar 14 2022

03/13/2022 Psychedelic rock with out-of-this-word guitar work.

Talking Heads 77 by Talking Heads
Mar 15 2022

03/14/2022 Maybe my expectations were too high for this. Psycho Killer is nice, tho.

Country Life by Roxy Music
Mar 17 2022

03/16/2022 Even my gay ass loves that cover; if only the album was even half good.

It's Blitz! by Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Mar 18 2022

03/17/2022 Full of energy and attitude. Sounds exactly like the 2000s, when all the music nerds were on Hype Machine trying to find the next alt rock masterpiece before anyone else.

Moondance by Van Morrison
Mar 19 2022

03/18/2022 I was really enjoying this! ...But then after 'Into the Mystic' finished, it all got very bland and boring?

Lady Soul by Aretha Franklin
Mar 20 2022

03/19/2022 Giving this anything less than a 5 is a straight-up war crime.

Violent Femmes by Violent Femmes
Mar 21 2022

03/20/2022 Weird, loud, angsty pop/punk. Enjoyed it more than I thought I would!

Bayou Country by Creedence Clearwater Revival
Mar 22 2022

03/21/22 Pretty fun classic rock. I like the term some on here used - "swamp rock" lol.

The Suburbs by Arcade Fire
Mar 23 2022

03/22/2022 Such a great album. Soooo close to a 5-star rating.

In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida by Iron Butterfly
Mar 24 2022

03/23/2022 Not for me, but also... what the fuck? A 17-minute long track? Absolute insanity. Good for them!

Now I Got Worry by The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion
Mar 25 2022

03/24/2022 Absolute chaos, and not in a good way! One of the worst things I've ever listened to, lol. Super aggressive and as unpolished as possible... I hate this so much. Never again, and wish I could erase evidence that I even streamed it in the first place.

Mar 26 2022

03/25/2022 Nice debut album, full of energy. Not really into punk, but there's not really a bad song on this album. Good for them and their success! lol.

Hard Again by Muddy Waters
Mar 27 2022

03/26/2022 Another great weekend morning and evening album. No skips.

Juju by Siouxsie And The Banshees
Mar 28 2022

03/27/2022 Hell yeah. Gets a little spooky as the album progresses. Def puts a spell on the listener.

Veckatimest by Grizzly Bear
Mar 29 2022

03/28/2022 Classic indie; with really only one great song (Two Weeks, duh). A product of its time already. The back half takes a bit of patience to get through, if only due to how strong the opening few songs are.

Cypress Hill by Cypress Hill
Mar 30 2022

03/29/2022 Not a bad album, but also not very distinctive. Maybe this one just wasn’t for me.

More Specials by The Specials
Mar 31 2022

03/30/2022 Nope. Absolutely not for me, and a struggle to even finish.

Apr 01 2022

03/31/2022 Hadn't heard of this band before. Similar sound to Sting and Peter Gabriel. Really easy to listen to... I'm a fan!

Bongo Rock by Incredible Bongo Band
Apr 02 2022

04/01/2022 Meh. Not bad, but not great by any means.

2112 by Rush
Apr 04 2022

04/03/2022 Really great stuff here. Loved the 20-minute opening track; it takes you on an entire journey from start to finish. So many ways this could have been awful, and there are already multiple albums on this 1001 list that have tracks that are SO much longer than is really necessary, but this one hit just right. Such a great listen.

Dusty In Memphis by Dusty Springfield
Apr 05 2022

04/04/2022 Great voice! Better than "A Girl Called Dusty" and full of power!

Either Or by Elliott Smith
Apr 06 2022

04/05/2022 I've kind of avoided Elliott Smith for a while just for how many internet opinons there are on his life, music, and passing. Glad I finally did take the time to listen - it's clearly very sad, but there's an overwhelming beauty to the lyrics and Smith's voice. I also appreciate that this isn't an album that was made for exclusively gloomy days.

Born To Run by Bruce Springsteen
Apr 07 2022

04/06/2022 I gave it a shot, but I still don't get the acclaim. He sounds... bad.

Repeater by Fugazi
Apr 08 2022

04/07/2022 More angry punk/rock. Difficult to complete the full listen.

We Are Family by Sister Sledge
Apr 09 2022

04/08/2022 Bops on bops on bops! The girls just wont quit! Listened on Spotify, and the final 3 tracks are 24 mins of extended disco remixes, and I honestly unlocked a new level of homosexual after listening.

Queens of the Stone Age by Queens Of The Stone Age
Apr 12 2022

04/11/2022 It all sounds the same. Can't hear anything special that would lead me to coming close to classifying this as an all-timer album.

World Clique by Deee-Lite
Apr 14 2022

04/13/2022 Fun, early 90s pop. Bubbly, feel-good tracks.

Out Of The Blue by Electric Light Orchestra
Apr 15 2022

04/14/2022 Super fun 70s pop! Mr. Blue Sky is a classic! Some other really good tracks fill the album. Not quite an all-timer, though. Had this on vinyl when I was little, and loved the album art - really influenced my music taste/appreciation at a young age.

Street Life by The Crusaders
Apr 16 2022

04/15/2022 The song Street Life goes on for days and days. Jesus Christ, please, never again. Jazz morphs into elevator music by the end. Not for me.

Boy In Da Corner by Dizzee Rascal
Apr 17 2022

04/16/2022 Really bad, loud noise. Filled with random electronic sounds and brash clanging. Didn't bother exploring pas track 4... it's nonsense.

Golden Hour by Kacey Musgraves
Apr 18 2022

04/17/2022 Cute, country-pop. Surprised that I dug it as much as I did. Her voice gets a little irritating after a while. Good production value keeps things right on track.

The Specials by The Specials
Apr 19 2022

04/18/22 It all sounds the same.

Ogden's Nut Gone Flake by Small Faces
Apr 20 2022

04/19/2022 Wild opener; thought my headphones were fucked, lol. Was really digging this until the bizarre narration begins. Wish I could have listened without all that!

Timeless by Goldie
Apr 21 2022

04/20/2022 This begins with a 21-minute long track. Really tells you a lot about what you're getting into. Had some nice things to say! Then it kept going. And going... And going. Lots of noise.

Tonight's The Night by Neil Young
Apr 22 2022

04/21/2022 Fuck Joe Rogan. Listened on YouTube, due to the Spotify debacle.

Gris Gris by Dr. John
Apr 25 2022

04/24/2022 Bizarre. Something I'd never listen to. 1000% need to be on drugs to enjoy this album. Manson family realness.

Pretzel Logic by Steely Dan
Apr 27 2022

04/26/2022 Music my dad would def jam to. Very easy to listen to from start to finish. It's a great one to put on while doing work, too.

Happy Trails by Quicksilver Messenger Service
Apr 28 2022

04/27/2022 Groovy opening tracks with impressive guitar work, but by track 5 it becomes a little too repetitive and predictable. Decent enough, though.

Fuzzy by Grant Lee Buffalo
Apr 29 2022

04/28/2022 Never heard of this dude until today. Pretty standard alt-rock. Nothing amazing and nothing horrible. Glad this was suggested, and that I know about it now.

Sticky Fingers by The Rolling Stones
Apr 30 2022

04/29/2022 Impossible to not appreciate how big of an impression this album has had in so many artists and entire generations.

May 02 2022

05/01/2022 Pretty decent; ultimately, another one that's just not for me.

The ArchAndroid by Janelle Monáe
May 03 2022

05/02/2022 She's one of the greats. Sweeping vocals and instrumentals; with top-tier production value to die for. Absolute fire from start to finish.

GREY Area by Little Simz
May 04 2022

05/03/2022 Hadn't heard of Little Simz before this, but wow, she kills it. Mega talent.

Here Are the Sonics by The Sonics
May 05 2022

05/04/2022 An early hybrid of rock, pop and punk from 1965. The garage sound quality make the whole think sound... bad. Lots of attitude in the lyrics and vocals!

Sincere by Mj Cole
May 06 2022

05/05/2022 lmao, what? Over 2 hours of repetitive noise. Absolutely not for me.

Cloud Nine by The Temptations
May 07 2022

05/06/2022 This was a nice one to get on a Friday. A week full of bullshit ending with a smooth funky album like this was nice to go out on.

Rock 'N Soul by Solomon Burke
May 08 2022

05/07/2022 Really great stuff here! Great voice; could listen to this all day.

Darkdancer by Les Rythmes Digitales
May 09 2022

05/08/2022 Nope. Overlong and way too repetitive for anything to become worthwhile.

The Bends by Radiohead
May 10 2022

05/09/2022 It's nice, but I've never understood the hype and raves.

1977 by Ash

05/11/2022 He's known as The King for good reason.

Calenture by The Triffids
May 13 2022

05/12/2022 Pretty average 80's lite-rock. Album length is crazy.

Good Old Boys by Randy Newman
May 15 2022

05/14/2022 More Newman? Ok, then...

Coles Corner by Richard Hawley
May 16 2022

05/15/2022 Very unexpected, in the best way.

Autobahn by Kraftwerk
May 17 2022

05/16/2022 OMG, these guys again? What the fuck.

Connected by Stereo MC's
May 18 2022

05/17/2022 Decent, and very of its time. Full-on 90s in every way. Opening track is a bop, and the rest are pretty fun in a corny, dated way, lol.

Shalimar by Rahul Dev Burman
May 20 2022

05/19/2022 Actually pretty killer. Lots of it sounds like a 70's action soundtrack.

White Ladder by David Gray
May 21 2022

05/20/2022 Pretty dull and unmemorable. Same vibes as Coldplay, etc.

Da Capo by Love
May 22 2022

05/21/2022 Another one that's just not for me.

Southern Rock Opera by Drive-By Truckers
May 23 2022

May 24 2022

05/23/2022 Kinda fun but also kinda boring and a little too weird.

Rio by Duran Duran

05/30/2022 An undeniable classic. There's a modern polish to the sound which keeps it fresh and of its time. Lots of good track on this one.
