First three tracks just sound like terrible versions of Bob Dylan songs. People make fun of his voice which I disagree with, but here outside of the studio its really not good. Just Like a Woman is the first fully enjoyable song. The electric stuff is easily the best sounding. Still Dylan and still decent just a pretty wide mix of good and bad music. Really love the drumming on Like a Rolling Stone at least

The title of this series is 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die. It is NOT the 1001 most influential albums. This album is pretty terrible from its beats to the rapping, which is bad even for the UK. It was definitely influential, but that doesn't mean an album is good or that it needs to be listened to

The Wildest! by Louis Prima
Oct 23 2025

You kinda get the whole sound after one song. The Lip sounds a ton like his later song Pennies From Heaven. I don't really like it, it sounds very dated and goofy to me. I kinda liked Buona Sera though.

Back In Black by AC/DC

80s rock music is BAD. There are maybe some ok ideas for a song in here and every non hit is miserably boring

Surprisingly uninventive. Do not listen to this after Homogenic, Post and Vespertine.

Feb 10 2026

The restraint and playing on the title track is insane. Absolutely insane. Obviously a great album throughout but wow. Only issue is some parts of Wars of Armageddon being goofy

The Next Day by David Bowie
Feb 17 2026

Kinda like a modernized version of some of his very old stuff. Good but not that's groundbreaking. When it is *super* different like If you Can See Me, its not too good.

Want One by Rufus Wainwright
Feb 26 2026

Pretty enjoyable album with a very enjoyable cover. Nice piano melodies

Legalize It by Peter Tosh
Feb 27 2026

I will never give a positive rating to an album that promotes DANGEROUS drug use. Other than that its pretty neat. Some songs are kinda chill like Burial , and Why Must I Cry is genuinely really neat and heartfelt. The title track is very not good though, boring and repetitive.

I'm Your Man by Leonard Cohen
Mar 11 2026

Just kinda a strange album with his voice. Surprised its so liked, he doesn't have the vocals for a synthy album, at least not one that's as upbeat as this. Would've thought traditionalists would've taken issue with it. It's not terrible, and some songs like Everybody Knows are fine, while I'm Your Man is solid, but its just not a very solid record that I usually expect from him. Jazz Police is terrible though.

Natty Dread by Bob Marley & The Wailers
Mar 31 2026

Very mixed, I like the sort of country sound I hear on songs like Rebel Music and songs like Revolution, it just gets to be a bit too eccentric for me in a bad way on some songs. Never cared for No Woman No Cry, to simple for me.

Rapture by Anita Baker
Apr 01 2026

Really good soul album. First song is clearly the best but the whole album is very solid.

Armed Forces by Elvis Costello & The Attractions
Apr 05 2026

Starts off fine, good even. Gradually it runs out of ideas and becomes mostly boring and samey (though there are some alright moments later on like parts of Chemistry Class)

Illinois by Sufjan Stevens

Exodus by Bob Marley & The Wailers
Apr 21 2026

A little kooky but surprisingly really good, especially as I wasn't wowed by the first Bob Marley album I listened to. Only thing I didn't care for was the closer which was a bit corny which the album had mostly avoided by that point

Grace by Jeff Buckley

Simply one of the best albums ever. So emotional, and it rocks too

Ten by Pearl Jam
May 12 2026

Blood And Chocolate by Elvis Costello & The Attractions
May 17 2026

It's kinda interesting how he sings here, almost a little detached but with a lot of effort at the same time. Sort of becomes less cool as it goes on, though the heavily Dylan inspired Home is Anywhere You Hang Your Head and I Want You in the middle are highlights. I liked Battered Old Bird at first but he just goes a little too far with it and it gets a bit too unrestrained.

Fuzzy by Grant Lee Buffalo
Jun 11 2026

His voice is a little too 90s rock for me, kind of reminds me of some of the OK but not special music coming around that time, a little goofy and sarcastic. Fuzzy is a masterpiece though. I did also like the more alt-country song like Soft Wolf Tread or The Shining Hour, and much of the second half of the album.

Magical album. Sugar Spun Sister is both a goofy lighthearted song and one of the most beautiful things ever

Morrison Hotel by The Doors
Aug 11 2026

One of their most consistent and best albums. Only weak songs are Land Ho! and Ship of Fools which is more middling. It recovers nicely with The Spy which is a neat more relaxed song as is Indian Summer, one of the best on the album. It's very varied for a Doors album which I appreciate. Waiting For The Sun is probably their best pure rock song

Nixon by Lambchop
Aug 12 2026

Actually got pretty interesting at the end, very unexpected. Pleasant and a little eerie.

Songs Of Love And Hate by Leonard Cohen
Aug 13 2026

It's songs of Love and Hate, not Songs of Love, Songs of Hate. And its incredible

1989 by Taylor Swift
Aug 16 2026

Many of the songs that aren't singles are BAD, and some of the singles are, but it has a couple alltime fantastic songs in Style and Blank Space. Some of the lesser known ones have decent parts like Clean, but overall the good just barely edges out the dredge on this album.
