so fun so punk i love
very danceable was dancing to this in the kitchen at breakfast that’s how good it was
not my favourite jazz album but still nice. i like that it's live.
want to relisten when im studying, might have a different impression
this was nice ! i quite like blues music
the opening track was so mystical + magical
rest of the album was pretty good
listened to this at the gym and wasnt crazy - liked the blues song though and the guitar was nice
lots of fun and amazing bops on here!! love cyndi lauper i need to listen to her more
nice and groovy. listened to it twice in a day while driving. but looking back dont remember anything abt the album or any song so cant rate it too highly
love the groovy dance vibe
listened at the gym so i kinda disassociated boo
i like this a lot ! mix of beatles and beach boy vibes
nanci griffith has such a nice voice. liked the folksy bits, but wasnt blown away by anything in this album.
keen to relisten even though 2 stars
i fwww this. love the blend of acoustic and rock elements. like his voice. obsessedddd with the title track.
i thought i had already listened to this but ig not ? so so good though janelle monae is a literal visionary. love how she does so many genres just on this one album.
nice rock album, but need to relisten cus i feel like i didnt pay too much attention to it when i was listening on the erg
niceee i think sufjan is so clever when it comes to sounds, blends so many influences i love it
think i prefer carrie more, even though it makes me so so sad listening
listened at the gym but then realised it would make good studying music -- i was right.
but maybe i was wrong bc i genuinely found myself zoning out to listen to the music, it was so mesmerising. the sounds on here are so hypnotising and incredible. also very much impressed by the title track
i want to take part in a futuristic fashion show with this entire album as the soundtrack. the beats are so cool. idk why i procrastinated listening to this but this is gonna become my go to electronic album, more accessible than depeche mode i think (even though i prefer depeche mode)
already listened to this but what an AMAZING album. wish i could relisten to this for the first time aaa.
was lowkey expecting more of a folksy or singer-songwriter vibe, but was pleasantly surprised by the sound of this. i like the percussion, and the synths are yummy but lowkey the magic is lost over time. like her high vocal range.
sooo good idk why it took me so long to get to this. only word i understood was 'nada' but who cares. gorgeous voice and loved the jazz vibe of this.
yk what gonna relisten cus am studying and i loved the vibe
loveee this. very recognisable sounds but the percussion and strings are so nice ! also some of the songs on this album have me feeling a bit emotional ! idk great album overall.
i like thissss. very fun driving songs i luv it
mixed emotions on this! listened while erging so didnt give it my full attention but i liked some bits. fee like the instrumentals and production were interesting, liked the drums. will relisten bc i feel i didnt give it a fair try
really liked the english vibe to this. honestly felt so motivated during my leg day so big ups to this album. the singles obviously stand out but the rest of the songs are pretty good as well!!
also i think i had listened to gary gillmore's eyes on a run in london so good to revisit
hard to pin down just what genre this album is, so it's an interesting listen for that reason. dj shadow also does a good job at showing off his versatility; there are lots of songs on here that sound different, yet still some sonic consistency across the project.
but i kind of struggle to see the vision and aim of this album, and i feel like dj shadow didnt have much of clue either. hmmm
THIS ALBUM IS SATANIC. listened while erging and it lowkey scared my shitless. but lowkey still fucked w it idk... but the vocals were so disturbing i thought i was gonna be part of an exorcism eeeek
her voice is sooo amazing, especially her lower register. some great versatility on this album.
will be re-listening to this
this was quite good!! i love that this was live and wish i could see this live bc thin lizzy seems like a great performer.
idk much about guitar riffs but some of the guitar stuff was crazy and so captivating.
wish i could see more variety though. sonically it was a lot of the same stuff. highlights of the album were when he stepped out of that sound, namely with Dancing in the Moonlight and Still in Love with You.
but still a fun record to listen to and i would like to listen to more of his stuff
i am so glad that i listened to thin lizzy right before this album, because it made the contrast just that much more jarring !! aside form having the highs and lows i was looking for in lizzy's live album, the young gods take it further by giving a very untraditional rock project.
truly an experimental record, everything is so zany! aside from the production, the insane deep growly vocals and the whole album being sung in french kinda made me feel like wtf is going on?? i can definitely say that i havent heard anything like this, and probably will wonder if i really did hear this.
piano works really well with the vocals. something really masterful about the blend between the percussive elements and rest of music.
however dont think i would return to this album aside from 'Into My Arms' (loveelyy song, well written and gorgeous)
fuuuuuuun. not my favourite electronic record but it was fun. it was rich and captivating. not much else to say
im kinda undecided as to whether i liked the pop rock vibe. it was giving paramore which i liked. i liked the angst (?)
do see myself revisiting some of these songs though
this was so good i listened to it two times in a row. guitar, bass, and drums are all so effective. good driving album, good morning album. overall just really good x
i loooove pj harvey and i looove this. she’s very cool and i love this punk rock vibe
feel so lucky i saw her live
i liked the airy dreamy vocals on this mixed with the more punchy synths, guitars, synthetic drums and whatever else they used to make this.
even though not very highly rated i definitely see myself relistening to this and discovering more things i like abt this record. i see potential.
lowkey liked this so much i only listened to this album for the last week instead of any new album whoooops. really great though i love how fun and out there this record is. gives me airplane over the sea vibes
lowkey giving a mix of PJ Harvey and the last dinner party in a cool way. singles stand out but the album as a whole does not keep my attention.
GORGEOUS and MESMERISING voice. sarah vaughan is so captivating. always like a live album as well
obviously listened to this before. i think this is adele's best album. it feels daring at parts, but also has its classic adele moments. love this album.
genuinely amazing album. every single guitar riff, drum, vocal, everythingggg just slots so nicely into my ears. feeling a bit corny giving this a 5 stars given the acclaim of this album but WHATEVER its really good.
love queen but never saw them as being album-conscious, i always assumed they were looking to make hits. this album proved me wrong - have never heard a single song off this album but was so surprised by how adventurous the album as a whole was, but still true to queen's sound with the harmonies and guitar riffs. listening to this felt like an experience
really liked the opening track, then found the middle tracks to be a bit story. i get that it's a concept album and it's meant to be telling some kind of story but the opening track was so explosive and fun that it did sort of set the tone for the rest of the album and i was ultimately underwhelmed ! worth relistening though bc its possible that i didnt fully appreciate those slower points
pretty enjoyable! i liked this especially the title track, there is something very addictive about it. not revolutionary in any strict sense but still nice.
wasn't too crazy about the opening track so had low expectations for the rest of the album but honestly was pleasantly surprised. i found this fun and liked it a lot. i am an aerosmith fan now
obviously had already listened to this. but honestly such a good album. so well thought out, from the lyrics, to the production (the production omd). a true modern classic and lorde's best work. anyone that says this album is overrated needs to stfu
feel like between this, paul simon, the kinks, and gene clark all pretty much back to back, i am a bit tired of this genre and couldnt fully appreciate this
kinda love this -- sent me into a paul simon phase for the past week. i think i prefer this to graceland
i like this. good walking album. still trynna figure out if its a good studying album bc it gives me the will to study
quite kooky which is fun but later tracks kind of lost me
pretty good i like this. nice autumn album. songs sound pretty different from one another despite having a similar vibe.
amazingggg album. so much versatility, and i felt very hooked to this because of that..
this is maybe the 3rd time im listening to this album and maybe finally starting to see its appeal. for whatever reason keep zoning out and cant seem to focus on the lines (which im assuming might be part of the allure, because musically not much going on). might keep giving this a shot becuase its so highly regarded though i feel bad.
liked this! big fan of cult of personality as a history nerd (this is my niche). cool album!
pretty good. i like the harmonicas and the guitars but but nothing special.
Hazey Jane II lowkey giving Dire Straits vibe, so was lowkey surprised by the rest of this album because it was a bit more strings heavy. but honestly lovely. i really like his voice, and i like the strings a lot. also saxophone made an appearance! very cool
i could smell the kanye on this album wayy before i heard him being mentioned. quite liked this, especially the bits with the female vocalists, but lowkey felt a bit too familiar (even though i have never heard this album before)
combines this rock and this jazzy feel which i like. didnt realise the amy winehouse song is not actually by her but from the specials. cool but nothing very special
very fun. love the female vocals they have so much energy.
lowkey lost interest about midway through though whoops
pretty good. i like the piano it was fun and upbeat. not something i see myself returning to though
actually enjoyed this more than i thought i did. chorus is repeated a bit excessively but fun. very interesting and captivating listen. some of the sounds on here are dirtyyyy but in a good way
gooood album, one of my favourite hip hop ones. had already listened to this but liked it even more this time around. production is so captivating, and its fun and has a sense of humour..
bleh boring didnt even bother listening
COOOOL fav was the title track (even though it was weird listening to bad company by bad company in an album titled bad bunny)
this album is all over the place but in a gooood way. many different vibes, kind of like a more experimental beatles.. interesting and enjoyable!
a bitaccoustic for a nirvana album (disappointing?). had already listened to this but still njoyable
varied for a rock album. i like the piano and the banjo (?) on mississippi kid
was feeling indifferent until free bird WHAT A SONG
also feel like the demos are better than the proper songs? idk
harmonies are gorgeous but kinda boring atm idk.
yeah no this album did not captivate me. i like that its a different sound and genre to the other albums on this list, but i wish there was some attempt at making this more adventurous. just not for me i fear
interesting but dont see myself going back to this. rating it purely off of my taste and not the quality bc the quality was certainly impressive. and i liked hte introduction, it made it accessible
second ac dc album and i love this. genuinely gets me so excited and hype
LOVELY. had already listened to some of the songs off here but i really liked how guitar-centric it was - felt like a unifying thread across the songs. and the guitar stuff was v nice
BOMB. was excited to listen to this bc i know shreeya listens to lcd soundsystem and this did not disappoint. i love the mix between rock and electronic music.
feel like this is exactly what ive been looking for (although admittedly feel this way about lots of albums on this list). so cool and surprisingly diverse??
favs may be the first two tracks, i like the theatrical quality to the opening track and the second one is just so fun.
pretty gooooood.
liked the versatility because i feel like rap albums can get boring quite quickly
vocals were atrocious oh my days. lowkey unlistenable. instrumentals were nice i liked the flute at one point buttttt this was bad
kinda love this. i cant explain why. didnt mind the lack of direction in this it felt like a very fluid listening experience. this is the kind of music i can listen to while cooking, studying, or just going for a walk and be entertained
so much energy!! and when i heard it was improv i couldn’t believe it bc it felt like there was so much intention behind it (but obviously would explain how long the songs are)
had already listened to this but i liked listening to it again!
but dont think it sounds that different from their other album. the haunting vocals and production are good but get repetitive over time. they clearly have their own distinctive sound but would have liked to see a bit more experimentation.
if daft punk and the beattles had a baby
kendrick is literally the best rap storyteller i know it’s insane. this album is such a good example of that
yesss this is cool i love
i genuinely can’t explain it but i really like this album?? love a concept album, and there clearly so much intention behind each song, with clear highs and lows that signal different parts of a story
the battle between yoshimi and the pink robot is very well communicated and its kind of crazy how music can do that
i like the tension between the acoustic elements and the electronic sounds of 'in the morning of magicians'.
'are you a hypnotist' is such a great song i like the psychedelic vibe.
and then ‘do you realize??’ and ‘all we have is now’ are so introspective and vulnerable. WOW!!
at the same time i feel like people wouldn’t connect with this as much as i have, making me think i should maybe relisten but tbh i doubt i will. it was so nice as a one time listening experience sooo
REALLYYYY good wow. the brass is so sexy and exciting omd. and it works so well with the acoustic guitar! so much life behind this project
pretty good album. the girl’s vocals are insane + mesmerising. this feels pretty adventurous for an album of this time??
wasnt too crazy about this, until i listened at the gym an enjoyed the first half! ig listening to metal in casual settings is not the vibe.
the second half featured longer, slower songs that i couldnt really get into at the gym, but would be open to relistening.
liked the psychedelic vibes and energy on this record. a lot of the sounds on here were very pleasing to the ear. did feel that the lyrics were undeveloped though but overall liked this
ehhhh. i liked the reggae vibe on this. there was some attempt at infusing it with somethign new but tbh i dont think it worked. and all of the songs sounded the same? idk man!
i had heard 'gotta get up' in Russian Doll, and loved rediscovering the song. it makes me want to listen to it in the morning as im brushing my teeth and pretend im in some kind of movie. I also didn't know that 'without you' was his song! it's my favourite mariah carey song and turns it its not even her song?? and 'coconut' is so silly funny
overall big fan of this and will be returning, bc i love the vibes. there's a beatles vibe to this album, yet somehow feels ahead of its time?
electronic and jazz are so different but hancock works that they can work really well together. big fan
yay christmas! some nice classics on here
pretty good!! been listening to this a lot, but might be biased bc he has a song with beyonce... he pulls from lots of different influences which makes this an interesting listening experience.
pretty good but lowkey could not help yawning????
yes. she sings, she raps, and her interludes show her depth as an artist and individual. a CLASSIC and keeps me engaged throughout
can clearly feel the soul and r&b influence, two genres that i love, and bowie did it so well that it's hard not to like it.. LOVE
oh wow this is great. listened to this on the train to durham and ive been hooked ever since. i obviously knew the national from their song with taylor swift, but this really showcases the band's OWN sound and appeal. nice.
not as good as synchronicity but still nice. a consistently good album
feel like there were a few standout tracks but wasnt crazy abt all the tracks whoops
classicccc
favs are turning tables and dont you remember
first bjork album on 1001 albums ??
this is so good though idk why i havent heard anyone else talk about this. maybe more experimental than her other work but also feels more her because of that......
not my favourite jazz record but pretty enjoyable
they all sound so good together and the harmonies were insane. i loved this sm.
JONI MITCHELLLL
i think this may surprisingly be the only album i havent listened to. obviously knew help me and free man in paris, but honestly this album was so great.
While still influenced by her typical folksy sound and the introspective songwriting she's known for, there are so many other interesting influences here (jazz, blues). and her voice REALLYYYY shines here
nice!! second stan getz album i feel like a fan now. loved the female vocals and the jazz
his voice is insane !! so many varied vocal performances that i had to check it wasn’t a feature or something
i couldn’t help but compare him to his son but they’ve got the same introspective songwriting - which i really like
tim buckley is also majorly talented sonically and the album is so explorative
