1001 Albums Summary

I did not think that I would enjoy this at all. Good vocal performances with stylish 80s/90s production. Starts off great, takes a slight dip in quality towards the end. Nevertheless a positive surprise. 7/10

One of the first vinyl records I ever bought! The first 3 song run on this might be up there with the greatest starts to an album ever, but the rest is not quite as good. Even though I'm not a fan of other U2 albums, this one holds a special place in my heart. 8/10

On paper this is a solid hip hop record with quality production and versatile rapping. Yet for some reason I still remain unimpressed. While the quality of the beats is quite consistent, the rhymes and deliveries often lack sauce, making the overall listening experience somewhat bland for me. 6/10

Easily the best Cure album, and one of the greatest albums of the whole decade. I really don't have anything unique to say about this album. Classic. Timeless. 9/10

I have a soft spot for 60s pop music. I love the eery and spacious instrumentation combined with her sweet vocals. Just lovely. 7/10

Still waiting for him to finish the rest of the states... Just a beautifully crafted album with intricate songwriting and a strong concept. One of my favorites. 9/10

It's alright. The only memorable tracks for me were Western Sky, Firefly, and the closer. Bad Liquor seems out of place. 5/10

Probably the greatest Metallica record, or at least the most consistent one. Filled with great riffs and insane solos. Classic. 9/10

Great guitars, cool atmosphere. Incident at Neshabur is transcendental. I might have to smoke a blunt and give this another go. 6/10

I'm not a huge fan of Southern Blues Rock, but ZZ Top sounds quite tight and focused on this album. Could imagine drinking a case of beer and smoking a carton of cigarettes to this album easily. 6/10

Overall kinda enjoyable, somewhat repetitive and boring. 5/10

I haven't heard a lot of Tom Waits albums, but I feel like this one was caught in the middle of his transition from traditional piano ballads to a more experimental sound. While some of the bluesier tracks in my opinion work nicely, the rest is not for me. 4/10

Easily their best album. Paul's vocals combined with killer riffs, solos, and overall songwriting give this record a unique sound that they never replicated later on. CLASSIC! 10/10

Standard inoffensive rock music from the seventies. A bit too dull for me, but has strong highlights. 6/10

Classic 70s album full of hits. What's not to like? Nothing too spectacular though, easy to listen to. 7/10

The second best Beach Boys album right after Pet Sounds. Consistent all around, but there are a few weaker tracks on the A side. Overall very nice, and often overlooked. 8/10

One of the most important indie records of all time. All killer, no filler. 10/10

I'm still waiting for this band to click for me. Ocean Rain didn't do it for me except for a few tracks, and this album is following the same trend. I'd rather just go listen to the Sound or the Cure. The Cutter rips though. 5/10

Marley Marl's production has aged gracefully. While LL Cool J is charismatic and flows pretty well for 1990, the album has this dated sound that bothers me a bit. 6/10

This is insanely good. The only thing that really bothers me, are the several various mixes and versions that all sound kinda bad. Some mixes on YouTube fix this issue though. 9/10

So fucking smooth, give me an icy cold bev on a beach somewhere with this shit playing on the background oh yeasss. I should listen to more bossa nova. 8/10

I like the 90s alt/grunge sound this album has, but something about Dulli's vocal delivery and lyrics just do not work for me, leaving me somewhat unsatisfied. 6/10

This is the third album I've tried from Nick Cave, but I just can't get into his music. I can't even describe why that is. 4/10

Ahh the nostalgia. Honestly the best or second best Foo Fighters album, despite its rawness and weird lyrics. Their sound on later albums is just so fucking bland. 7/10

An important album filled with catchy jangle pop anthems. One of the first bands to bridge the alt/indie scene into the mainstream. CLASSIC! 8/10

I don't know what it is with me and Deep Purple, but I'd rather listen to Thin Lizzy or Black Sabbath over them every time. It's not a bad album, just kind of mediocre in my opinion. 6/10

Almost Cut My Hair is an incredible track, wow. The album is versatile and still somehow very cohesive, which is impressive with 4 different songwriters and vocalists. 8/10

The A and B sides being so great justify the freakishness of the last two sides. 8/10

I can't lie, this was my shit back in high school. Listening to this now, I can't really take the lyrics seriously. The first half is quite decent, but the rest just drags on. 5/10

Some classic tracks, great samples, and overall innovative hip hop. It's a bit too long/bloated to be considered their best work alongside of The Low End Theory and Midnight Marauders. Still, a good experience and a must-listen for any true hip hop fan. 7/10

Are all of U2's albums in this book?? The sound is more post-punk, but the songs seem also more unpolished. Sunday Bloody Sunday and New Year's Day carry this album HARD. 6/10

I'm ashamed for not listening to this earlier. Up there with 70s prog classics. I love the dynamic of grand hard hitting rock tracks suplemented with short folkesque songs in-between. 8/10

Probably the only album to have the EXACT same rating on this website as on RYM (3.99 as of this moment on both). I've previously underrated this album, but I have to admit that it's up there with his best work. 8/10

I've been a Green Day hater for as long as I can remember. But after hearing that their 90s output is actually worth listening to, I've decided to give their earlier material another shot. Dookie is a landmark 90s classic with over 20 million copies sold in the US alone. That alone is very impressive for an album such as this. I guess you had to be there to really get what made this album such a phenomenon back in the day. Basket Case and When I Come Around are iconic 90s anthems that really deserve their status as the most overplayed songs that appear in frat movies. Outside of that there isn't much noteworthy stuff or anything offensive either. Overall it's a fun pop punk album that doesn't overstay it's welcome, decent stuff. 6/10

Doesn't quite reach the consistency of Sticky Fingers or Exile, but is a serviceable Stones record through and through. Solid. 7/10

This 2000s indie behemoth has a warranted classic status among music aficionados, myself included. It has a slight dip in quality during the midpoint, but the fantastic start and ending make up for it easily. 8/10

There is nothing too spectacular here outside of the three hits, which are all classic 90s big beat bangers. Alright stuff. 6/10
