1001 Albums Summary

Classic! Stark departure from most of the contemporary music.

This one surprised me. It started like a pretty typical synth pop album, but delved deeper as the album continued.

The songs are really well played and produced, but mostly sound the same. I would hope for a bit more range throughout an album.

There’s some great classics in here! It’s a bit samey-same but really well done.

Classic prog rock! I enjoy that most of the songs are like small bursts of inspiration, sometimes drawing from classsical motifs like Gershwin‘s „Rhapsody in Blue.“

I never quite understood the hype over this band, and this album didn’t clear things up much. There are a few songs that are quite good, like Sprawl II.

There’s some great playing on this album, but I think I like his later stuff more.

The second half of this album specifically is super cool!

The last song was a wild ride! Most of the others were a bit ho-hum.

The blend of styles is really neat. There is one instrument, however, that sounds a lot like a straw, and it seemed to be a bit overused in my opinion.

I really enjoyed this album. I love when people can just put aside the idea of having to have a specific genre and they just write good music..

I really love the Mamas and the Papas. „The In Crowd“ is a really stupid song, but it completely captures Mama Cass’s vocal talents.

I went to YouTube to listen to the full album. I see why they didn’t bother putting most of it on Spotify.

This album didn’t really begin until Sabotage, but then it took off running! What a treat!

This one has the thrashy elements that OG fans like along with the melodic nature that brought them into the mainstream. Only complaint is that it’s way too long.

It’s cool to hear the bridge between old school rock and roll and the progressive, punk, and new wave styles that were to come.

It was a pretty cool album after I got over the disappointment of a band called Meat Puppets not being a girl group.

This was very interesting music. I feel like I need to give it another listen to absorb it all.

Kinda overblown in my opinion. I think their association with Warhol and gang raised their status more so than their actual music. Not terrible though.

This is what rock music should be. It’s rough around the edges, but still catchy and well executed.

A nice variety of songs. I personally waffle in my opinion of the rambling nature of her songwriting, but it can be really pleasant if I’m in the right mood.

This is really unique! I just wish there were a tad more structure and a whole lot less “cursive” singing. It adds artifice to something that otherwise feels genuine.

Hangar 18 is awesome, but the rest of the album is largely one long song.

I like George Clinton but this wasn’t the best in my opinion. It seems like one long jam without enough variety to add structure.

There were some really cool songs occasionally sprinkled with absolute drivel. Like wtf was that dove song? It took away from the experience of the parts of the album that really shined, which is unfortunate.

Great album with classic folk sound! Love the incorporation of their traditional English folk elements. French was kinda weird, but not bad.

It got better over time and I really like Dreaming of You. But I feel like they are trying way too hard to sound like they are from 1967. Just really derivative. But they seem like good musicians that just need to be more creative.
