This album starts out really strong with Talkin' Bout a Revolution and Fast Car which are just awesome. Then the style of the music kind of starts to drag on me - it's not bad by any means it's just not something that keeps a real hold of me (even with really strong lyrics).
Extremely enjoyable. Fairytale of New York is obviously a highlight, but I love the album as a whole. When I listened to it in the past I often skipped the instrumentals which I really shouldn't have because they're just so good.
First time I ever listened to this album. Cloud Nine is a great song and a I really loved Gonna Keep on Tryin' Till I Win Your Love. In between it's pretty good. An okay cover of I Heard It Through the Grapevine. Runaway Child is really funky but a bit overlong. The rest are fine. Not my favorite Temptations album but very solid.
I've always enjoyed this album. It's super theatrical and really fun. Bunch of rockers on it too. Bat Out of Hell is a really strong opener. You Took The Words Right Out Of My Mouth is such a good song about young love (or lust) and Paradise By The Dashboard Light hits it well. All Revved Up also covers that teenage experience pretty well. All in all just a fun album.
I thought I would like this more than I did. I only knew Clint Eastwood and 19-2000 going in and they are both bangers. The other song with Del on it - Rock the House - is really enjoyable. I liked Starshine a lot. Beyond that I found the rest of the songs anywhere from okay to good. It's a solid album, just not one of my favorites (which I was kind of expecting).
First time listening - only song I knew going in was Le Freak (which is certainly top end disco). I enjoyed Savoir Faire, I Want Your Love and Sometimes You Win. The rest were decent - not my favorite album but not bad by any stretch.
This was fine I guess. I see comparisons to Lou Reed but to me this sounds like a slowed down, crappier Pavement. The songs aren't objectionable or anything but it's just kind of a drag. Shiver is a standout though - decent song.
It's been years since I listened to this - it's better than I remember it being. It starts out so strong and carries through - it's an hour of such solid, catchy, angry songs. One of my favorite hip hop albums from this era.
This is my favorite White Stripes album. It starts out so strong, and the first 6 songs especially are just so good. Forever For Her (Is Over For Me) has been one of my favorites since this came out. It drags a little in the middle for me, but it still ends strong and Red Rain and I'm Lonely (But I Ain't That Lonely Yet) are solid closers.
I enjoyed this album. Halcyon + On + On was the only song I’d heard before (in Hackers) but I’d always liked it. Solid overalll.
I've owned this album for more than twenty years and never gave it a real listen. While Morrissey's vocals aren't my favorite thing, I also don't hate them. I really dig the instrumentation here. Girlfriend in a Coma and Death of a Disco Dancer are the standouts for me but the album as a whole is great.
I liked this album. Went in blind and was happy I did. The standouts for me are Giles Farnaby's Dream (which is a fun little instrumental) and The Sound of Someone You Love Who's Going Away And It Doesn't Matter (which is also a fun instrumental - albeit much longer and describing it as fun doesn't really do it service). Overall I'm very happy to have heard this album and I'm sure I'll listen to it again.
This album is an interesting listen and seems to speed by really quickly. St. Elmo's Fire is a great pop tune with some fantastic guitarwork. In Dark Trees which follows is a neat weird instrumental. Everything Merges With The Night is also great. It's definitely an album I have to be in the mood for, but today I was.
This album is very up and down for me and considering the stylistic differences it makes sense. I really enjoyed Soul and Fire, Two Years Two Days, Happily Divided, Cliche, Homemade, Forced Love, and Think (Let Tomorrow Bee). I could have done without a bunch of the others - but even those aren't terrible. It's definitely not a bad album and I may come back to it but probably never to listen to it as a whole.
The only song I knew by Sade going in was Smooth Operator which I always thought was pretty good. I really liked this album a lot. Your Love is King, Hang On To Your Love, Cherry Pie, and Sally are especially good but there's not a bad song on this.
This is fine I guess. I liked Heart Skipped A Beat. It does drag on for me because it's extremely samey and while I can appreciate that in some bands for this it's just kind of a drag. It's not terrible or anything but pretty boring.
I’d never given this album a full listen. It’s really good - love the sampling.
Bowie has always been one of my favorites. That said - I'd never listened to this album before and only knew Golden Years off of it. It's definitely a different kind of album and it took me two listens but I ended up really loving it. Stay is the standout for me here.
This is a really fun album. I couldn't listen to it too often, but great to listen to every few years.
This was fine. I'd never heard of the band before and I enjoyed Souvenir well enough. The other songs kind of blend together for me - even after a few listens.
This album wasn't bad, but was way too long for me. This style of music just tends to drag on me after a while.
While it's not my favorite RATM album, it was such an awesome debut. It's got such good grooves and the lyrics are so angry and delivered so well.
I don't think I ever listened to this full album before. Speakerboxxx is so good. GhettoMusick is such a strong opener and it's just so solid all the way through. The Love Below is more hit and miss for me but the high points are really high. Overall these two albums are great.
This was a first listen for me - I'd only heard Sunny Afternoon before (which has been one of my favorite songs since I was little). I loved the album as a whole. Rainy Day in June was a particular standout and may be one of my favorite songs the Kinks,
This album is really front heavy. The first seven songs are all bangers. Soul Kitchen has always been the standout for me. The other songs are fine and I don't mind The End as much as many other people seem to - but those last four songs definitely take it down a notch for me,
So this is fine. Unfortunately - I had piecemeal a playlist of this together because the only versions of this I could find were much longer then the original album (which is really all I wanted to listen to). Maybe if I could have heard the original I would have rated it higher - who knows.
I've always been a big Incubus fan - this is probably my third favorite album of theirs. It's got a couple of great singles in Drive and Pardon Me and the rest of the songs are great too - there's no filler here for me. Pardon Me is also a really great opener. Just a very solid album.
Whenever I listen to one of Stevie Wonder's albums from the 70's I think damn...why haven't I spent more time listening to this? This is an excellent album, not my favorite of his, but just really good. The singles are great but Big Brother for me especially stands out.
I was very happy when this album ended. I never want to hear this again.
After getting David Gray yesterday I was psyched to listen to this today. Although I've listened to a few of Eno's solo albums before I'd never given any of the Roxy Music albums a listen. This was overall great. Nice variety of music. I really liked Ladytron and Would You Believe in particular, but all of the tracks were good.
This is such a good album from beginning to end. While it's not my favorite Dire Straits album, it's an awfully good one with catchy tunes and such great guitar work.
Nebraska is an excellent album. Well crafted lyrics and pared down instrumentals are all you get and it works really well for me. Atlantic City is probably the standout song but they're all great - as long as you're in the mood for it. Not my favorite Springsteen album, but I appreciate what he does here.
Steely Dan always hits for me. I love how exacting they are in their playing. The whole album is great - My Old School is probably my favorite song of theirs. This is the first 5 star album I've gotten.
Great album from front to back. You Know I'm No Good, Back to Black, Love Is a Losing Game, and Tears Dry On Their Own are the standouts for me but there are really no misses at all.
I really loved this album. I'd never heard of the band before even though I'm pretty sure I'd heard some of the songs (maybe in movies or TV shows). This is something I will definitely come back to - it's weird, fun, catchy. The standouts for me were Something 4 the Weekend and Hangin' with Howard Marks.
This is the first album since the David Gray album that I was excited for it to be finished. This is just so extraordinarily boring. Moving on.
This was fantastic to get the day after Moby. I've always loved Sam Cooke and as far as live albums go this was a great one. Bring It On Home To Me is the high point for me, but I loved the album overall.
First time listening to this album - I liked it, just not as much as I hoped to.
This album was bright and fun and that carried it for the first half or so before I got very tired of it. It's definitely not a bad album, but it's certainly one I'll never listen to again.
Not my favorite R.E.M. album, but it is very good. The standout for me has always been Nightswimming (Stipe's voice on this always got me), but the album is full of great songs.
Fantastic album. Just Like This Train is probably my favorite, but I've always enjoyed Raised on Robbery and Twisted. The rest of the album is great too. I still think I prefer Ladies of the Canyon - but not by a ton.
It doesn't get a lot better than this. It's not my favorite Dylan album, but it's definitely in the top couple (and definitely in the top 5 albums of all time for me). The standouts for me are Absolutely Sweet Marie and Stuck Inside of Memphis, but they're standouts on an album full of them. I know some people have a problem with Dylan's voice, but I think it's perfect for his material and love every sung (and played) note on this album.
I enjoyed this album. The only song I knew going In was Bittersweet Symphony (which is definitely the standout on the album) but the rest is still very enjoyable.
This isn't as bad as I was expecting it to be. The song Public Image is good enough. It's still pretty bad.
