Always loved this classic and it was definitely worth a re-listen. As a fan of Robert Hunter's lyrics, this set of songs really shows Cash's influence on Hunter and the Dead. American music, through and through.
Amazing — can’t believe I missed this when I was in my psychedelic music phase in college. Unbelievably influential on so much contemporary and subsequent rock.
Pretty, but not my style. More like soundtrack music than an album I’d choose to listen to.
Always meant to but never got around to really listening to Wilco. I’ll be listening to more for sure.
Fun British pop punk band from the 90s that I never heard of before!
Any ‘70’s - ‘80’s Ramones fan would like this group.
Definitely never heard these old standards played by Willie. What’s not to love?
Listening to this album from start to finish is like visiting my younger self. It was like going home.
So nice to listen to this one again, recorded here in my city when I was two years old. Headphones on, it transports you to another time.
I only knew the hits from this Bowie album and man, have I been missing out. It’s a playful, hippie Bowie, and such gorgeous songs! I have been playing this on repeat since it came up in the list. It’s a new old favorite.
What fun to go back and listen to this band, reminding me of the days in the late 80s when we'd frequent South Florida's "alternative music" dance clubs. We took ourselves so seriously, as does this album. Good music from a simpler time, when it was fun to act depressed.
I had this on vinyl and listened to it over and over, but it has been decades since I heard the whole thing from start to finish. What talent, coming out of a really tumultuous time in Ireland.
Excellent electronic music out of Australia. I can’t believe I was totally unaware of this group.
Artistically very sound, but definitely not my favorite Genesis album. This one takes itself way too seriously, and the frenetic keyboards end up being overwhelming. I find it more cheesy than epic.
This album is perfection from start to finish. It’s Willie’s 18th and is the 1st where he was given creative control. It’s simple: guitar, piano, drums, and Willie’s voice, and it’s just perfect.
Musically sound dance tunes, but when it’s not auto tuned, she relies on a vibrato that’s so consistent I’m not sure whether it’s actually another effect.
This is not my kind of pop.
Funny that this is the first time I’ve listened to a Pretenders album in its entirety! I love Chrissie Hynde’s voice as much as ever, and the music is great, though it does bring home how musically simple pop songs were in this era.
This is the cleanest cut goody two shoes album imaginable. It’s like if a Ken doll were a record. It was fun to listen to a whole album of Beach Boys songs, but I much prefer the more experimental music from this era.
There’s just so much great Bowie music and I’m not familiar with a lot of it. This is another great album.
I only knew her hit, Paper Panes, before this. I’m not a big fan of this genre.
This album and I are exactly the same age and it’s one I’ve heard from beginning to end my whole life. I can’t imagine a world without the influence of Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. A masterpiece .
A truly great songwriter with another album I never heard in its entirety. Bedrock of so much beloved music which followed.
This was a new artist to me. I really loved this album and will definitely be listening to it again and sharing it with friends who like alt and indie music.
This album seems like one I should know, but I never heard of this group. It sounds like what it is, early 70s alt rock, with familiar influences and a foundational sound. Really good stuff. I’ll come back and listen again for sure.
EDM is not my thing, but having said that, this album really doesn’t sound dated to me, which is surprising since it’s from 1996. I actually liked one of the songs, First Down, which surprised me as this has never been my favorite genre.
This album consisted of songs that I either knew every word and every note of or ones I never heard before. Supertramp was so popular when I was a kid, and it seemed like everyone had the Breakfast in America record. It was fun to listen to this from start to finish and hear songs I didn’t know.
I haven’t listened to this in years and it’s freaking awesome today like it was then.
This was a little heady for me. I liked it a lot, but it isn't the kind of music I can put on in the background; I need to focus on it to enjoy it. I guess it's not his most listenable album, although it's excellent.
It's like listening to Flight of the Conchords but for real. It was a lot of fun to revisit this old "new" music from the 80s.
Beautiful, classic Joni. This hasn't changed the fact that I really don't love her singing, despite her pretty voice. I love her as a songwriter.
Like anyone who was around in the 80s, I heard these hits so many times, I got sick of them. This is the first time I've listened to this album from start to finish, and I am really impressed with what a gorgeous album it is. Sade's incredible voice is no surprise, but the album also really delivers on an instrumental level. I'm so glad I took the time to listen to this, as it is something I definitely overlooked. I also learned that Sade is the name of the band; I only knew it as Sade Adu's first name.
I liked this way more than I expected to. I didn't realize they actually have ballads. My inner 13-year-old enjoyed this album a lot.
I was really disappointed when I went back and listened to this album. I remember really loving it when it came out, and in hindsight, it's really a bit boring and trite. I wish I could listen to it with my 1995 ears again.
I actually didn't know that I liked Justin Timberlake this much. The sappy R&B songs were a little much for me, but the pop songs were really fun. Also, I had no idea the guest stars on the album (Janet Jackson!) plus The Neptune, who not only perform on most of the songs but who produced the album.
As much as I love Billie Holiday's voice, this album isn't my favorite. The elaborate orchestral arrangements popular at the time don't do anything for me, and in fact I think sort of detract from her amazing voice. The 4 rating I'm giving is not because of Billie, but overall it's not my favorite way to listen to her.
This is another album where I know every note to the hits, yet there are songs that I never heard before or barely remember. Debbie Harry's voice is just so good, and the overall sound is amazing now like it was then. It's funny that this "new wave" album has songs that sound like country music sounds now (e.g., "Picture This"). I really enjoyed this album.
