What a warbler! Up and down and up again, gets irritating quickly. I love a good of The Cure, so hearing the superb song Lovesong being managed in such a diabolical manner was mildly infuriating. I managed to avoid this album for 15 years and only took it on in the spirit on the 1001 album challenge, I'll never listen again. Dear god please spare me from more Adele during this challenge too.

Brothers In Arms by Dire Straits
May 18 2026

This is a long time favourite of mine. Great one to get started with!

May 19 2026

This album takes me back! Another form favourite from the past, but one that feels like a few weak songs on it and so don't listen to much anymore.

May 20 2026

Was ok, nothing amazing. May not listen to it again.

Court And Spark by Joni Mitchell
May 21 2026

Nice enough, but not a repeat listen

Cloud Nine by The Temptations
May 22 2026

Interesting enough, but not enough to bring me back again

The Velvet Underground by The Velvet Underground
May 23 2026

Was nice to listen to a Velvet Underground albums that wasn't that banana one. I liked this, might take a while to get the level of familiarity to enjoy as much as bananas

Billion Dollar Babies by Alice Cooper
May 24 2026

Nice enough Alice, I'm sure others love it. I've definitely heard worse, that's for sure. Just didn't do much for for me

Kings Of The Wild Frontier by Adam & The Ants
May 25 2026

I thought Adam and the Ants were really best known for their singles and but their albums. Turns out that's true, and this album didn't have any decent single hits on it. Terrible drivel overall

Elephant by The White Stripes
May 26 2026

I like this album, I liked it 20 years ago. Some banging tunes and good memories. Not going to get full marks though, I must be hard to please.

Pictures At An Exhibition by Emerson, Lake & Palmer
May 27 2026

Dear god, this is awful. It should be piled on the pyre of Prog Rock and all copies of this monstrosity should be destroyed as a gift to humanity. It's 38 minutes long and I'm half way through as I write this. Have mercy on my soul to finish.

xx by The xx
May 29 2026

Quite low key and vanilla. It's ok and I'll give it another go again in the future as I think the songs would grow on me as I listened more

Eliminator by ZZ Top
May 30 2026

Standard 80's, happy to listen to once, no need to listen to twice.

Moon Safari by Air
May 31 2026

Have loved this album since it can't out, it's superb, chilled and just wonderfully put together. By far the best album by Air.

Fear Of A Black Planet by Public Enemy
Jun 01 2026

Rap isn't my thing, and still isn't. At least this album didn't make my ears bleed in the same way as other rap albums and songs have. I can see how people might like this album, good luck to them.

Manassas by Stephen Stills
Jun 03 2026

Very much enjoyed this, and eventually got a new album recommendation from this site for an album I really liked. So much better than the pop and rap pish I've been subjected to. I'll send this album out again and see what else they have put there. My faith in the 1001 albums project has been restored.

So by Peter Gabriel
Jun 04 2026

Decent album with a couple of hits and great album songs. It's stood the test of time too and is always a great one to

The Atomic Mr Basie by Count Basie & His Orchestra
Jun 05 2026

Nice enough, Sunday night low impact niceness. Maybe a little bland against what's produced 70 years on but fine for its genre

Funeral by Arcade Fire
Jun 06 2026

Great to hear this again, always liked it but I think it's not quite stood the test of time, the songs didn't resonate as they once did. This is true of other Arcade Fire albums I've also listened too after a gap. But still enjoyed it

Pump by Aerosmith
Jun 07 2026

Very pleasantly surprised by this album, not just about love in an elevator. Good songs, energy and certainly not dull. Will be giving it additional listens.

Os Mutantes by Os Mutantes
Jun 08 2026

Not nearly as psychedelic as I was expecting from the reviews I read. This is the kind of album I want to experience through this listening journey. It was just a lot of fun. I've no doubt this would be better known and much more popular if it wasn't for the fact they're Brazilian. Definitely be listening again.

Jun 09 2026

Just a bit dull. This style is music was massively popular in the past, but it's just a bit old fashioned and very vanilla now. Well done Ray, nice singing, and the band was good. Just wake me up when you're packing up your instruments. The last few songs were painful. Just wanted it to end.

Jun 10 2026

I was delighted to get a Smiths album today, I've dabbled with them before but not really got into their albums. I'd say I enjoyed it ok, but nothing wonderful. No huge sparks, it was just fine. Many people hated this album when I read the reviews, that's not me on this occasion. Not really sure how it leaves me with The Smiths now. Guess I'll find out once I get the next one. I'll probably not relisten here for some time.

Smile by Brian Wilson
Jun 11 2026

Dull and pale. He tried to spice it up by injecting some good vibrations near the end, but the corpse of an album was long gone. Avoid this, nothing new, nothing special.

Dare! by The Human League
Jun 12 2026

Good to hear this for historical purposes, it's good listening to a bit of 80's synth pop, but it wasn't stunning. The album ended with a couple of their hits, and that's where it'll remain. No need to listen to this again. Didn't hate it.

Electric Ladyland by Jimi Hendrix
Jun 13 2026

Enjoyed it, I can see how that would grow on repeat listens.

Jack Takes the Floor by Ramblin' Jack Elliott
Jun 14 2026

Nope. No good. Not terrible but just sounds so old and turgid. Interesting from a historic perspective, but that's your limit

Wild Gift by X
Jun 15 2026

What a joy. Great fun, great energy. I particularly like how there is a variety in the music on the album. Delighted to find something new that I like - and the fact that it's a little bit different from my normal tunes. I ended up giving it at a repeat listen and continued to be filled with joy. I can't deny giving it 5 stars, a real achievement for an album I hadn't hear before

Illinois by Sufjan Stevens
Jun 16 2026

An album that simply doesn't need to exist. Never needs replayed. Deserves to fade to nothing. It doesn't feel like anything new or interesting, and it's far too long too. Would have been twice as good at half its length.

Cosmo's Factory by Creedence Clearwater Revival
Jun 17 2026

I quite like CCR, and always thought I should listen to them more. Didn't hate the album, but didn't really love it either. Definitely the CCR sound, but nothing massively new or interest to warrant a repeat listen.

Done By The Forces Of Nature by Jungle Brothers
Jun 18 2026

Gutted to get a Hip-Hop album today. I really dislike the genre. Started with extremely low low expectations... But then... Oh.. that's not so bad. No nails down the blackboard that I was expecting. Actually mostly a pleasant listening experience. It's actually a great hip hop album, flowed nicely and a good variety to it to keep in interesting. Will I listen again? Mmmm.... No. I have too many other albums and music styles is prefer to listen to.

Morrison Hotel by The Doors
Jun 19 2026

I enjoy a bit of The Doors with The Strange Days album. This one was ok, maybe it's a grower. Maybe it'll get a chance to do so. It certainly sounded like The Doors

Different Class by Pulp
Jun 20 2026

Been listening to this since 1995. Amazing album, superb sound, devine memories.

Jun 21 2026

Had low expectation for this, but it's been an absolute joy, Truly fantastic. They have a mellow vibe along with superb singing.i could just relax and listen for a long long time. Definitely a band to explore

Jun 22 2026

I'm genuinely bemused as to how this album could be included in a top 100,000 album list, never mind a top 1001. It was just a monotone of sameness, and bland at that. Shouting and a fast BPM doesn't make it interesting. Never again will I listen.

Blue Lines by Massive Attack
Jun 23 2026

Lovely album from an amazing band. Another album that I've been listening to for years, so how can I fail to give it 5 stars?

Swordfishtrombones by Tom Waits
Jun 24 2026

Another album is mine that I have on rotation, but not too often. Everyone should have a little bit of Tom Waits in their life, and this album is the perfect candidate. His albums can feel a bit grating at times though, and that's probably true here too, so I wouldn't listen to it too much.

The Undertones by The Undertones
Jun 25 2026

Containing the perfect pop song according to John Peel, and it's difficult to argue. This album would still be an awesome listen even without that gem, it's full of energy and enough variety to keep it interesting and fresh. Superb disk.

Junkyard by The Birthday Party
Jun 26 2026

I do like a huge chunk of Nick Cave's work, he's a unique man, absolutely fascinating who produces many of the best songs around. I've dabbled with his early incarnation before, why wouldn't I? I'm search of more NC gems. I've come to the same conclusion as before, angry young man finding his way. It's a raw sound for sure, and it seems to be an important stepping stone to his later greatness. It's a stepping stone I'll leap over in the future.

Jun 27 2026

The album is pure Bob Dylan, it's the Bob Dylan sound for sure. It's not a bad sound, I like a bit of Dylan. There are even a few good Dylan songs on it. Looking at the full list I see there are seven Dylan albums to with through. They'll all be great, but why so many from the same artist? The album was nice enough but I didn't like it as much as the albums I've listened to many times before. It's probably due to not being familiar with these tracks, but it'll get a lower rating for it.

Imperial Bedroom by Elvis Costello & The Attractions
Jun 28 2026

Felt like some lounge music for a Monday afternoon.

G. Love And Special Sauce by G. Love & Special Sauce
Jun 29 2026

I must listen to this before I die? But what is it kills me?! Terrible. He can't sing, can't rap, the musicians aren't anything special, the compositions are dull, words are just plain irritating. Maybe a bit hard on the musicians there, but when the vocals kick in it just does not work. Not one little bit.

Raw Power by The Stooges
Jun 30 2026

Iggy Pop! Another one that I hadn't really heard before, it's brilliant hearing more if these albums and Iggy didn't disappoint.

Strange Cargo III by William Orbit
Jul 01 2026

I listened and it faded into the background, I wasn't fully conscious of it going on. Felt a bit middle of the road

Paranoid by Black Sabbath
Jul 02 2026

I've never really listened to Black Sabbath before and was very pleasantly surprised by this album. Decent songs including the famous Paranoid. I listened again on the same day any it was great second time round too. It's great to find these gems.

Greetings From L.A. by Tim Buckley
Jul 03 2026

This is superb. Loved the energy and tunes. They know how to play properly as a band and the album feels like a proper performance. One to keep playing for the future

Can't Buy A Thrill by Steely Dan
Jul 04 2026

This felt like lounge music, poor lounge music. Just no bite or interest in any of their tunes, even with the well known pair of songs on here or wasn't elevated to anything beyond "meh". Sparing it from one star because at least it wasn't turgid.

Third/Sister Lovers by Big Star
Jul 05 2026

Nothing special, I really don't understand why it on this list. The cover songs don't make it any better, they just demonstrate how bland and middle of the road the experience was.

Jul 06 2026

Nice chirpy album that steps along nicely. Interesting songs and enough difference to keep it interesting. Definitely one for repeat listens and a need to explore the artist.

Rio by Duran Duran
Jul 07 2026

Very much enjoyed the unashamed 80's throw back. Very much of its genre and I think very much holds its own in today's musical world. Definitely a keeper on the playlist

White Blood Cells by The White Stripes
Jul 08 2026

Really enjoyed this. I like the White Stripes but I've not listened to them much. Hopefully that'll continue as I can tick off more if their albums and not just listen to Elephant!

Moondance by Van Morrison
Jul 09 2026

You can have too much Van Morrison in your life. In fact it's quite easy to hit that limit. I'll be fair to say I agree it's an album for the 1001 list, but I just don't like it, and I haven't liked them over the past 30 years where I've tried to see what the fuss is about. I'll leave it for others, thank you.

Dog Man Star by Suede
Jul 10 2026

I've been listening to this since it was released. Not necessarily a top album choice during that time, but it's consistently near the top and always a pleasure to listen to it. It definitely feels like a comfortable blanket of sound, beautiful sounds beautifully put together.

Live At Leeds by The Who
Jul 11 2026

I really have tried to listen to, and to like, The Who over the past years. I appreciate a few their hits like Baba O'Riley, Pinball Wizard and Wont Get Fooled Again. But when I go beyond these, even to My Generation, I just find them to be a bit crap. So clearly albums are a problem in general but Live albums where the singing is also rather dubious are just plain rubbish. And this live album had none of my favourite Who His (probably not written by 1970) plus the singing was rather dubious. Beyond the 1001 albums I'll not be playing The Who again.

The Man Machine by Kraftwerk
Jul 12 2026

Historically interesting for sure. Kraftwerk have a rightful place in music history, but this music is not for me

Brutal Youth by Elvis Costello
Jul 13 2026

I read that "great songwriters" such as Elvis Costello get specially attention in the 1001 list, which means I've got another 5 albums to wade through. By all means add one or two for Elvis' cultural impact... Bux six. C'mon. There are at least four slots here that should be given to something more deserving.

Be by Common
Jul 14 2026

There were some elements of the album I liked, some of the sound and vibe. But. Once he opened his mouth the whole thing just fell apart for me. I just can't get behind rap. Just can't. I endeavoured through the full album but it's not a good sign to start counting down tracks till it's completed. 4 tracks counted down each one about 3 minutes in length... Then I got to the final (double) track coming in at 8.5 minutes. I could have cried into me steering wheel. EIGHT FRICKING MINUTES. Dear god, never again.

The Sun Rises In The East by Jeru The Damaja
Jul 15 2026

Dear god. I do try. I try to keep an open mind in the spirit of the 1001 albums. I'm just getting tired of rap. It's not for me and even though it only lasted 39 minutes I was counting down the seconds. This album has no redeeming features despite me looking for them.

Rattus Norvegicus by The Stranglers
Jul 17 2026

Was nice to hear something decent after a few days of albums that weren't great

War by U2
Jul 18 2026

Give me U2's greatest hits and I'm happy. A U2 album makes me unhappy. They are massively overrated.

Suzanne Vega by Suzanne Vega
Jul 19 2026

Middle of the road album that I have to question as to why it even exists. It was just plain and dull, at least it wasn't bad.

Jul 20 2026

I've tried to like U2, given them plenty of ear time. They do have some superb tunes, and that means their greatest hits disks are pretty good. But then getting onto studio albums I find I just don't enjoy them, they lack depth of quality and I just don't enjoy them. This is no different.

Stankonia by OutKast
Jul 21 2026

Ms. Jackson couldn't save this. Please don't find me rap albums to listen to.

On The Beach by Neil Young
Jul 22 2026

Had never listened to a Neil Young album before now, it really was rather good. Decent tunes and the singing was fine. It had variety in sound between songs so was kept interesting. I'll listen to it again sometime, although I see I'll get plenty of opportunity to hear further Neil Young before the end of the 1001, hope it doesn't cause me to get fed up with his work

Hotel California by Eagles
Jul 23 2026

Not really for me, nice enough. I've always enjoyed Hotel California as a song. Just don't need Hotel California as an album.

Django Django by Django Django
Jul 24 2026

I was looking forward to this album but it disappointed me a bit. I've listen to it before without it clicking, and it's the same again now. Sadly there wasn't anything special about it.

Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd
Jul 25 2026

An old favourite of mine. Just a marvellous album which comes with a myriad of memories. I'll never stop loving listening to this masterpiece.

Boston by Boston
Jul 26 2026

An album I can see why it's liked by many. I just didn't click with it. Quite samey, and nothing great on it beyond the initial track, More Than a Feeling. Middle of the road

Jul 27 2026

Some nice tracks on this, I really liked it. It's made me realise how important it is to have variety on an album, without variety the album can feel dull. Give this 4 stars, perhaps with repeat listens it could gain 5, but so difficult to get 5 on a first listen.

Arrival by ABBA
Jul 28 2026

Noticeable difference in quality of their hits versus album filters, their album fillers are still great though

Kollaps by Einstürzende Neubauten
Jul 29 2026

Awful. Absolutely awful. I've heard some shit in my time but this is top of the league. There is no need for this at all, and certainly no need for it to last for almost an hour. Sadistic.

Playing With Fire by Spacemen 3
Jul 30 2026

Lots of great snippets, I enjoy the shoegazing vibe from the album. But, the snippets are too long, very repetitive, and when I realised this was a double album I just didn't have the ability to listen to disc 2 there and then. This could have been so much better

LP1 by FKA twigs
Jul 31 2026

Nice enough, but really can't get excited about it.

Hard Again by Muddy Waters
Aug 01 2026

Sure, it's a classic. Sure, got some great tunes. Sure, I'll not bother with it again.

Aug 02 2026

Some more punk. I really don't understand why so many of these are on this list, what is the importance of this as album? It really was ok, and that's about it.

Happy Sad by Tim Buckley
Aug 03 2026

It was ok, not as bad as summer people thought bout that Gypsy Woman really did go on a bit

Hot Buttered Soul by Isaac Hayes
Aug 04 2026

Really liked the, good sounds and a feeling it really deserves its place in the list. Hadn't listened to Isaac beyond his South Park song it's for too hear something proper from him.

Cheap Thrills by Big Brother & The Holding Company
Aug 05 2026

Yes. Great album. Somehow I'd completely missed Janis Joplin as an artist, was only vaguely aware of her existence, but what a voice! Combined with a superb band it's another disk fully deserving of its place here.

Henry's Dream by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
Aug 06 2026

I love a bit of Nick Cave, and love many of his albums. Maybe not quite this one though. This is a bit more filler than normal. However, Nick's fillers would be other's killers

Berlin by Lou Reed
Aug 07 2026

That Lou Reed sound in sub standard variation of Transformer. I had to listen twice to make sure but just not excited by it... A real shame because I LOVE Transformer.

From Elvis In Memphis by Elvis Presley
Aug 08 2026

Nobody can deny Elvis' place on the 1001 list, bit it doesn't mean I have to like it. It's clearly of its time and feels very dated now. It's a shame, but that's just how it is.

Highway to Hell by AC/DC
Aug 09 2026

AC/DC get accused of having the same sound for all their songs, perhaps a little unfair... Only a little. You mostly know what you're getting and their big classic albums are a step above their average. If you want a superb classic album, you got it. I can listen to this anyday of the week, and it's not even my favourite AC/DC album

Shake Your Money Maker by The Black Crowes
Aug 10 2026

Another middle of the road vanilla album on the 1001 list. Not even Hard To Handle in the middle is able to lift it much beyond moribund, although just enough to raise the rating to three. Just don't listen to this. No need

Wild Is The Wind by Nina Simone
Aug 11 2026

Not my favourite genre, but genuinely fascinating album and clearly historically interesting. Will be well worth repeat listens

The Suburbs by Arcade Fire
Aug 13 2026

Arcade Fire is a great band, loved many of their albums and have been to see them live. They were always a band for playing 10-20 years ago. But. They've not had the longevity I was expecting. They just fell off my play list, and weren't missed, with only occasional plays in the past decade. The Suburbs would have been a definite 5 star during the popular phase, but now it's just going to get a 4. While I enjoyed the replay, it's satisfied me for the next while

Pink Flag by Wire
Aug 14 2026

Surprised to find two very familiar tunes in this album courtesy of REM and Elastica. Two tunes that I didn't know were covers/samples from another band. They were very welcome and showed me the influence coming from this album. The multiple short bite sized treats contained in here were excellent, so much so that I needed a repeat listen to make sure that it was a superb album, and it was true. Well done to Wire. It'll now be on my rotation list and likely I'll need to try more of their offering.

Hot Shots II by The Beta Band
Aug 16 2026

Very nice. Relaxed, chilled, interesting. I can see why some might think it's vanilla, but I love its vibe. Great album

Aug 17 2026

It was ok, a genre I like but I didn't feel there was real depth to it. Maybe it needs repeat listens. I did listen to it twice to give it a chance

Green River by Creedence Clearwater Revival
Aug 18 2026

Yet another unexciting CCR album. Nice tunes but they all sound identical. Just listen to their greatest hits, no need for anything beyond that
