Haven't listened to this since middle school. Lots of bangers
Classic sound but the best part is the album cover
Dad approved
The ultimate "don't judge a book by its cover" album. Really thought this album would rip as a kid and was so so disappointed by the music within. As an adult, it's just kitschy fun - not really my thing but ol loaf sure can howl
Banger after banger after banger etc so funny taj mahal got ripped off and became "do ya think I'm sexy?"
Bomb squad production carries hard would give a 3.5 if I could
One of the greatest of all time - top 10 for sure. I'll be your mirror is me and my fiancee's song so maybe I'm biased
All the cool gen z British indie bands heard this (and all his stuff) and are trying their best to reheat Scott's nachos
Album cover and first song sounding like a truck commerical had me scared - everything else was mostly fine. Would give a 2.5 if able
A lot of fun! British metal kinda fell off in the 21st century huh
The production is a good bed for common to rap about whether he should fuck god if she was a woman
man, fuck them damn dominoes
Always forget drake is on this for a lowlight but legendary album that holds up
Great workday morning music
First time ever I saw your face a banger in all forms
Haven’t listened to this in over a decade, first impression back then was it was fine.
Relistening now it’s hitting different!! Idk if it’s better than pink moon but dang it’s good
Also @drew you should check out “Akuma no uta” by Boris!
Never heard of this band! Cool cinematic sound that sounds a bit like their contemporaries (stereolab, broadcast, portishead) but with the lounge influence dialed up. Like the songs with more electronics naturally! Would give 3.5 if able
Elton not beating the singles artist allegations
Liked this more than I expected! Obviously the hits hit hard but there are some gems in the margins, even if this one can get a little bit grating. Would give 3.5 if possible
Another singles band album that I just NEED to hear before I die!!! Spoiler alert: the singles carry and everything else is fine
U2 went big in my house growing up. I loved the edges guitar tone as a kid (before I learned he called himself the edge and lost respect for him and before I listened to other post punk stuff). Some real bangers here!
Never got super into Elvis Costello- much to my dad’s chagrin. Listening now, it’s fine but something about the “Elvis Costello” persona just doesn’t click with me. Not bad vibes per se, but strange vibes - like “I’m so kooky and weird” while being neither lmao
Besides the amazing production - flavor flav’s contributions are always welcomed
wow it’s a classic rock solo album by a guy in a classic rock band amazing and sounds like classic rock but wait it’s from 1993!!! glad I could listen before I die!!!
solid 2 because I’m generous
Some real bangers but also some stinkers that don’t hold up
Good album overall though!
Sounds like a good party!
All timer easy 5
I’m partial to 1999 (which I’m sure will show up here sometime) but this might be better
I knew we’d get into Brit pop at some point and at least I knew song 2 lmao
I was worried as a non Brit pop enjoyer, but I can see how this one is the “American indie rock we love pavement, too!” attempt and I appreciate that! Would’ve loved this in middle school
Forgot how pornographic filthy this album is at times lmao but it was the 90s! Such a great album
Can’t believe Biggie wanted to suck the hot girl’s dad’s dick because she was so fine!!!
Oh boy classic rock!!! Snooze but liked the steel drums at the end and it’s short
Barely a 2
One of those “all timer” albums that has never hit with me when it should. Don’t get me wrong, it’s good! But I think I listened to SILY first so anything else sample based/plunderphonics sort of pales in comparison. Midnight in a perfect world is goated tho
Basically retro futurism now - like a y2k time capsule (and en el-p feature)
Some cool production (especially for the time) but a lil too “lyrical miracle the world is spherical” for my taste. Wipe out on the wave of Armageddon was my favorite track lol
Definitely the cocaine album lmao
Very British, but in the appealing cheeky television personalities kinda way that I enjoy
First time listen (besides the last track) but really enjoyed this and his story! Can see this in so much ensuing post punk/new wave stuff (like the aforementioned TVP) and the modern British rock scene too! Thanks 1001 album generator!
Neil Young 2 of??
Really liked this! Even more dad approved
Never been a huge nirvana fan
Best songs on this are meat puppets covers
Still mad at her for being so late for her pitchfork headline set!!!
Uh yeah she can sing
Another Brit pop band I’ve heard of and would seemingly enjoy, but never listened to due to the genre label
Gotta say the masses were right about the lyricism because some of these songs dang! A little soul stands out but a little too long imo
Singing run to the hills in rock band in 6th grade while on stolen land was a formative experience
Would rather not listen to this but I’m sure he’ll be popping up a few times on this journey! Idgaf about Eric Clapton sorry been listening to him against my will my whole life and have never had a response more than “eh”!! I know he’s influential and blah blah blah but dudes a loser and his oeuvre is a snoozer
Time capsule but that’s about it
Damn 2 nicks down already! Probably his weakest but still good!
Classic! Though I like the next one more (idk if that’s on the list). Haven’t listened since college. I know Peter will give this a 2 but it deserves at least a 3 damn it!!
I know vapour trail is the song everyone loves the best but damn dreams burn down is a ripper
What’s love got to do with it generational banger
Hadn’t heard this Joni album! Good stuff as always!
Some of my favorite Beatles tracks on this! What a string of bangers to start easy 5!
Never got into any of the late 80s early 90s pop industrial stuff besides NIN - but as an adult I love this era of major labels signing insane bands! This record is certified platinum like cmon!!
As a youth, saw what Al jourgensen looked like and was put off of listening to ministry lmao but this rips! Makes me wonder if there’s going to be any Coil or Throbbing Gristle later
Great stuff! My parents listened to a lot of Latin music as a kid so this was a nice throw back
Gonna have to watch that wim wenders movie now
My fiancée knew the title track (apparently there is a popular Japanese cover)! Big time album
Very 90s in a good way with some super varied production. Title track bangs! RIP William Orbit
Earl sounds like a baby here!
High school throwback big time!
Never heard of this but pretty good! AZ represented too which is a plus
The classic rock by the classic rock
XTC another band I never got super into but know a few songs - some cool instrumentation on this
My era of musical bias but never listened to it - just fine
Good stuff! Water with the wine is a banger
Title track goes hard of course but I really liked the last one
Probably not random but dang rip dolly!!! Title track had me tearing up quick - absolutely amazing song!!
Fine jazz album - idk if I needed to hear this before I die but whatever
A lot more scatological than I was expecting!!
Never a band I got super into but they’re fine!
All the girls are just aping Tori damn! Starts strong but there are some dated tracks
Biased because bob and the wailers greatest hits always seemed to occupy a spot in the car/home 6 cd changer rotation growing up - and this album makes up a majority of that comp! Some all time pure bangers
Depeche Mode was verboten in my household growing up - Dad Rock only Dad would always quip “no instruments were harmed in the making of this song” whenever anything vaguely electronic played on the radio. So he was very upset when I got into NIN and started working my way backwards into synth pop proper! But this album is great! Would be a 5 but the vampire castle instrumentals at the end are a little lacking. But still, enjoy the silence into policy of truth is an all timer one-two punch
Fun if a little samey
One of my personal favorite albums so super biased but relistening is always a treat
Blown a wish is like the most beautiful, swoony romantic song ever
I’d heard alright before but never knew the band/song title. This would’ve gone hard with me when I was in like 6th grade and obsessed with guitar hero! Still pretty good buzzcocks worship
Too much damn bri’ish rock this week (mbv is Irish and good so they’re exempt) only know about this band from the movie 24 hour party people. Pretty obnoxious in my opinion! Like, they did all those drugs for this!?
Some good chunes here. Classic bri'ish folk record track listing - one song is a stark and depressing slice of realism and the next is like "whoopdee happy doo let's sing us a song"
Ayyyyyyy Frankie bro this shit has “makin whoopee” on it
Title track still so amazing
Pretty good bri'ish folk
