The ultimate "don't judge a book by its cover" album. Really thought this album would rip as a kid and was so so disappointed by the music within. As an adult, it's just kitschy fun - not really my thing but ol loaf sure can howl

Never heard of this band! Cool cinematic sound that sounds a bit like their contemporaries (stereolab, broadcast, portishead) but with the lounge influence dialed up. Like the songs with more electronics naturally! Would give 3.5 if able

Liked this more than I expected! Obviously the hits hit hard but there are some gems in the margins, even if this one can get a little bit grating. Would give 3.5 if possible

U2 went big in my house growing up. I loved the edges guitar tone as a kid (before I learned he called himself the edge and lost respect for him and before I listened to other post punk stuff). Some real bangers here!

Never got super into Elvis Costello- much to my dad’s chagrin. Listening now, it’s fine but something about the “Elvis Costello” persona just doesn’t click with me. Not bad vibes per se, but strange vibes - like “I’m so kooky and weird” while being neither lmao

Besides the amazing production - flavor flav’s contributions are always welcomed

One of those “all timer” albums that has never hit with me when it should. Don’t get me wrong, it’s good! But I think I listened to SILY first so anything else sample based/plunderphonics sort of pales in comparison. Midnight in a perfect world is goated tho

Basically retro futurism now - like a y2k time capsule (and en el-p feature) Some cool production (especially for the time) but a lil too “lyrical miracle the world is spherical” for my taste. Wipe out on the wave of Armageddon was my favorite track lol

Very British, but in the appealing cheeky television personalities kinda way that I enjoy First time listen (besides the last track) but really enjoyed this and his story! Can see this in so much ensuing post punk/new wave stuff (like the aforementioned TVP) and the modern British rock scene too! Thanks 1001 album generator!

Never got into any of the late 80s early 90s pop industrial stuff besides NIN - but as an adult I love this era of major labels signing insane bands! This record is certified platinum like cmon!! As a youth, saw what Al jourgensen looked like and was put off of listening to ministry lmao but this rips! Makes me wonder if there’s going to be any Coil or Throbbing Gristle later

Depeche Mode was verboten in my household growing up - Dad Rock only Dad would always quip “no instruments were harmed in the making of this song” whenever anything vaguely electronic played on the radio. So he was very upset when I got into NIN and started working my way backwards into synth pop proper! But this album is great! Would be a 5 but the vampire castle instrumentals at the end are a little lacking. But still, enjoy the silence into policy of truth is an all timer one-two punch
