Album Summary

Korn (printed and stylized as KoЯn) is the first album by the American nu metal band Korn. It was released on October 11, 1994, through Immortal and Epic Records. Before recording the album, the band was approached by Immortal/Epic Records after a performance at Huntington Beach, California. The band signed to their label because they did not want to "sign away all of their creative freedom". The band would record at Indigo Ranch Studios in Malibu, California, with producer Ross Robinson, who also produced their 1993 demo Neidermayer's Mind. The recording took place from May to June 1994. After the recordings, Korn toured with Biohazard and House of Pain. The album's themes include child abuse, drug abuse, and bullying. The album cover depicts a young girl sitting on a swing being approached by a large man who is holding what appears to be horseshoes or possibly blades. Furthermore, the girl's shadow gives the appearance that her body is being hanged due to the position of the band's logo. Photography was done by Stephen Stickler, and the design was directed by Jay Papke and Dante Ariola. The album's first single, "Blind", charted at number 15 on the Canadian Alternative 30, and the album peaked at number 10 in New Zealand as well as number 72 on the Billboard 200. The debut album has sold at least 2.1 million copies in the United States and 10 million copies worldwide, according to Nielsen SoundScan as of January 4, 2013. Many consider the album to have started the nu metal genre. Korn toured with many bands to promote the album. Initially, Korn joined the Sick of It All Tour. Following the Sick of It All Tour, Korn joined the Danzig 4 Tour. Korn also toured with Megadeth, Fear Factory, and Flotsam and Jetsam.

There was already a Korn album on the list. A second one certainly was not warranted.

I am not a fan of Korn. I disliked the album that was on the original list and I disliked this one immediately. However, this album is a better choice than 'Follow the Leader' and is overall more coherent. What I was really struck by was the honesty and raw vulnerability in the lyrics. The themes of bullying, and the culminating track highlighting the sexual abuse that Jonathan Davis suffered as a child really stopped me in my tracks. It also changed how I view this band. I also come from a town in California's Central Valley and understand just how bleak and futureless it often felt growing up here. Drugs took a lot of the people we grew up with, and many more were/are hurt by those who should have protected them. When I hear Korn, I hear people I know who suffered in a similar way. Four stars and I hope these guys are doing well.

Oh man, I'm not particularly proud of this, but I straight up LOVE this album. It takes me right back to middle school and thinking this was the edgiest stuff in existence. Brings back a flood of memories and sort of holds up 30 years later. 5/5 for me.

I’m sorry I can’t be bothered to force myself to listen to over an hour of Korn. At least follow the leader had freak on a leash but after 20 minutes of yelling I decided it wasn’t worth it for a user album. If I missed some amazing Korn song in the second half of this I think I’ll live.

The song Blind is basically THE Korn song - it's the first thing I think of when people mention them, and that's probably true for lots of people. It was in something, like a crusty demons video, or some bodyboarding movie. Those were all the rage. Either way, I was right into Korn for a while before nu-metal got really annoying and Linkin Park stank up the genre. I still rate this album. It goes for too long and there's a bit of filler, but it's still a 4 and I'm gonna bump it up because there's too much folk music in these user albums. 5/5.

I was surprised to find another Korn in the user's list, but it ultimately proved justified to me. This debut is very different from what I know about the band and different from the album selected for the original 1001 list. I didn't love all the songs, but it was interesting

One positive thing about doing the 1001+ project is that I got to a point of real clarity about my own tastes in music. I decided that certain artists just aren't for me. Korn is one of those artists. To each their own, right? I'm not going to rip on this album though, like I did with Follow the Leader. I actually think this is the much better album of the two and it probably should have been the one to make the original list. While FTL struck me as gimmicky and excessive in all the wrong ways, this album shows some thoughtfulness that is missing from the band's other work. Musically the band is tight and as a cohesive group of songs, this album is a pretty listenable. Jonathan Davis' vocals are on point, and far less annoying than I expected. I'm not coming back to this, but I'm glad I had a chance to consider the band in a different light. Thanks for recommending this.

1/10. I know it's not the fault of whoever submitted this that I'm trying to listen to all of the user submitted albums. But, fuck off anyways, one Korn album was bad enough. It could be like a 3 or a 4 if it was just the instrumentals, but these shit lyrics are only good for pissing off your parents, and unfortunately for me, my dad likes Korn, so I'm denied even that small comfort

Sorry why did we need another Korn album on this list? We already had one and I hated it. This album was more of the same. I get that some people enjoy it but I absolutely do not. At least it was 10 minutes shorter than the other one. Still 20 minutes too long. My personal rating: 1/5 My rating relative to the list: 1.5/5 Should this have been included on the original list? No. Or if you want to, use it to replace the other album on here.

AAAARRRRREEEE YOOOOUU RRRREADY? - actually not yet mate, can you give me a few minutes? No? Well shit, er... Just carry on without me then I suppose. This is, admittedly, one of the first examples of Numetal, and numetal basically took over the mainstream for half a decade or so. So I'll grant its influence. What I won't call it is good. Because it's embarrassingly edgy and can really only be associated with millennials, who appear to have the worst music taste of any generation in history.

Korn was a huge band for me in my middle school years. They arguably have had the biggest impact upon my musical tastes. By the time I got into high school I was more into more extreme metal and punk, but Korn certainly made an important impression upon me. This is arguably the definitive nu-metal album. I think other bands surpassed them (Slipknot and Deftones come to mind) but this album really laid the ground work. I don't listen to it much these days aside from an occasional song or 2, I mean how good is Blind? But I think it deserves a 5 for it's legacy alone.

I love Nu Metal, so an easy up for just that. And Shoots and Ladders is an incredible track that really enhances the album. However, Follow the Leader is a stronger Entry, and shows off the band's best features.

Korn's debut is far stronger than the really-listed album, all off-kilter funk and less ill-advised genre blending. Funny to avoid the edgier material given that we had to hear early Eminem, but who's counting. The band's not going for faux-hip, just setting down their ideas - a bunch of 'em - with verve. The album's very close to guilty-pleasure, modulo a handful of the gimmicks.

Juvenile, emotionally disturbed music for the angry 12-year-old boys of the 90's. 100% gimmick music.

This is better than the Korn album in the book, since with this I don't have to listen to that Fred Durst rap-battle song. "Blind" is pretty good. "Daddy" is really heavy and disturbing. Not sure about the rest of the songs. Might be heresy to say this, but I think Korn is more of a "put your favorites in a playlist"-kind of band rather than an albums band. Also still not sold on the vocals.

When I was in high school, in the back half of the 90’s, the band I was in played at the school’s music showcase, where students with bands could perform for the entire school on the football field. It was like an afternoon long high school band festival that the school threw with two stages, but it wasn’t really a battle of the bands. Everyone got 3 songs/15 minutes to play and that was that, which was cool with us, since we had hardly played anywhere before this. Anyway, we made the decision to open our 3 song set with “Blind” from this album. I don’t recall what other songs we were going to play, probably an original and another cover… …because we never got the chance. We got about 90 seconds into “Blind” (after the “Are You Ready?!” part) and the students who were watching us started a mosh pit and the school pulled power to the stage without any warning. Those square school administrators couldn’t handle the power of our rock. Well, that and they probably didn’t want a lawsuit if someone got hurt in a mosh pit… …but, mostly they couldn’t handle the power of us rocking the fuck out. Yep, that’s it, 100%. Anyway, I’m giving this a 2 because I do think this should have been on the list instead of Follow the Leader, but I also think the music kind of sucks, sorry. What can I say? People change over the course of 30 years.

With all respect and appreciation for the person who submitted this one… no way. There are about 90 seconds of decent music on here, the bagpipes at the beginning of “Shoots and Ladders,” and the breakdown in the middle of “Predictable.” That’s it. Not even enough good ideas to put together a whole good song, let alone a hour+ album. For those who enjoy the overall theme here but want something more, check out Ministry’s The Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste.

Their first album, but not their best. I would have been seriously freaked out by this had I heard it at the time, since I was 11 when it came out, but listening now, having loved Korn for years (and seen them live a couple of times), it is simply astounding. Some tracks are pretty disturbing, but that was what they were going for, so I can't even mark it down for that. As a starter for an important band (and genre), as well as on its own merits, this should probably be in the book.

I saw a lot of hate for "Follow The Leader", the hate seems less for this one. I love this album as much as "Follow The Leader", it's where it all started after all (both for Korn and Nu Metal).

Ha ha ha, 2.6 points for the global score! I actually love this, motherf*ckers! Just as I love all those one and two-star reviews written by goddamn clowns who can't tell shit from shinola when it comes to groundbreaking metal albums. Or even worse, ones written by even bigger clowns who clearly secretly dig this record, yet are too ashamed to admit this in public, because it's supposedly embarrassing. Like what? Are you afraid of what some people are gonna say? Going through some of the two-star reviews, it's pretty easy to read between the lines lmao. You're on early-career Jonathan Davis's d*ck, it's pretty obvious. You goddamn pathetic clowns! All of this is f*cking hilarious. And it's also hilarious because, for those songs, Davis clearly got inspiration from his years as a teenager being bullied and harassed in school -- not to mention being raised in a dysfunctional family, according to his own accounts. That global score, seemingly decided by a mob of self-righteous morons, feels like a tribute to those sources of inspiration. Awesome job, you goofy mindless cowards! Scapegoating Korn for their supposed "bad taste" is like rejecting the "freak" in your class all over again. Sure, Davis sounds like a real piece of work. And spending a couple of years as a coroner assistant surely didn't help for his mental balance... Another reason to label him a freak, I guess, along with his bandmates... And yet the freaks singlehandedly spawned a sub-genre, "nu-metal", for better (Deftones, System Of A Down...) or for worse (Linkin Park, Korn's frenemies Limp Bizkit...). So the losers became leaders for a short while. And it all started with this debut. *Korn* is fucking raw-sounding (props to Ross Robinson's production -- rough around the edges here, but also organic and unpredictable). And Korn -- the band -- don't care about your f*cking feelings, it's too busy expressing theirs -- to the point where it doesn't matter if the drummer misses a beat once or twice, or whether Davis' words offend you or not. "Grown adults" in this section are clutching pearls because the lyrics aren’t poetic enough, I imagine. Well, I'm so f*cking sorry the traumatized gutter goblins making this record didn’t stop to write you a delicate sonnet about autumn leaves, professor. Sorry the music made you feel itchy and unsafe instead of gently massaging your latte-soaked nervous system. All those rotten little feelings you keep duct-taped behind your ribs... This record exposes them into fluorescent light. Shame. Rage. Isolation. The whole twitching landfill. "Blind" is a totemic anthem. "Need To" harbors a perfect hook. And "Ball Tongue" is the first ever recorded instance of the Davis's trademark skat grunting. He will sure overuse this option from his dirty bag of tricks in some later releases, but it's the one trick that makes Korn's sound so f*cking distinct, along with the slapping drums and slapped bass dynamics -- subliminally aping hip hop aesthetics. Some tracks later -- still good ones, but don't expect me to write a f*cking thesis in each and every song from the album, OK?-- two pivotal cuts surge... One paragraph for each, motherf*ckers: "Faget" flashes a middle finger to the sorts of homophobic braindead pieces of shit who had bullied Davis in the past. The year was 1994, and you'd been f*cking hard-pressed to find a song being so disturbingly candid about that subject in that time period. Being an eyeliner-wearing reject in high school, Davis experienced the harm made by those words firsthand, you see. Of course, he *also* tackles this subject for more "gratuitous" shocking purposes. But what do you expect from him? To be a herald of progress, first and foremost? He's seemingly too f*cked up for that, lmao (see some of his later admittedly "arguable" views, apart from his support of LGBTQ folks). Either way, one thing remains abundantly clear today: if you've got a problem with this one song, it most probably means that you ARE the problem. Like not accepting your own reflection in the f*cking mirror... The second pivotal track is "Shoots and Ladders". Looks like the American freak can also play Scottish bagpipes -- another reason to hate his f*cking guts, and the opportunity for a brilliant song introduction -- moody and unsettling... That one song is also the cut where Ross Robinson brings his 100% magic touch -- upping the ante without ever diluting the disturbing, unseemly shenanigans, -- and this in ways that the Korn - Robinson association will reiterate again for second LP *Life Is Peachy* (that I *sometimes* deem superior to this debut, even.). After Robinson left the goddamn boat, Korn would never sound this good again -- as the stupid choice by the 1001 Albums... book, *Follow The Leader*, proves (it harbors a couple of great tracks in its first half, but the second half is an utter disaster, in spite of the commercial success of this breakout LP... But you think I have the f*cking time to tell you that part of the story??? Think again, you sorry fuckers!) Fast forward through the second half of *Korn*: Davis does *spectacular* vocal work on the other highlight "Fake", ripe with all types of gremlin details, whether for the voice or the instrumentation. And of course, anyone who is already familiar with this album knows some words must be said about "Daddy", an apparently autobiographical song which got quite a lot of people talking in my neck of the woods at the time of the album's release: after a somewhat mystical acapella intro -- probably a partly snarling, tongue-in-cheek one, and yet a short stunt that's actually pulled off pretty well on both an emotional and a technical level -- Korn and Davis go on a full cathartic, disturbing mode in this closer dealing with the lightweight topic of child SA. Who Jonathan Davis accuses of this despicable crime is never really made clear during the course of the song (his dad? his mum? his stepmom? apparently he later revealed it was a female "family friend", but that he also blames his parents for not believing him back then..). But this only adds to the unease... Yeah, I agree, you perceptive geezers: autobiographical or not, there is a very "performative" feel to this track, and Davis breaking into hysterical tears and wails just as total chaos takes over the song's last jam makes you feel embarrassed for him -- and it also makes you feel like a voyeur, whose own limits are trampled upon. Are you feeling uncomfortable just reading this description? That's the whole beautiful point, you poor bastards! Music and art are supposed to make you *feel* things in your life. And life ain't always peachy, as Korn would soon pronounce. So go on, roast this album, call it stupid, call it trash. That's actually how you can validate every suburban burnout with a chain wallet and unresolved damage who heard it once and thought: 'finally, somebody made music that sounds like the inside of my skull'. But if what's inside of my skull is putrid, it's only because it's mirroring the hypocrisy of your current rotten "values", you f*cking idiots! I don't know what that kid with the chain wallet and unresolved damage has become today. But he was the one who had it right in many ways compared to the clueless, conformist, coward mob around him. For this reason, even though I would normally have given a 4/5 grade to *Korn*, I'm now giving it a 4.5 - 5/5 mark -- because of the context and current global grade provided by this generator. Hope you can understand that the aggro use of insults and slurs in this overlong review were only part of an exercise in style to precisely convey what this seminal album still makes me feel decades after its release... In truth, I really don't care if people have a bad opinion of early Korn. But if you *can't* understand I was just kidding with the slurs here... well, I guess you can all go f*ck yourselves anyway! 🤣 PS: a shout out to Stin, from Chat Pile. I don't know if he would agree with everything in this review, but I know he likes this album, as he once told me. Decades later, you can still precisely pinpoint the pivotal influence this record has had for its elected umbrella genre. If only for that, that justifies including it in my 5-star gallery. 4.5/5 for the purposes of this list dedicated to essential albums, rounded up to 5. 9.5/10 for more general purposes (5/5 for the musicianship and production values + 4.5/5 for the artistry) ---- Number of albums from the original list I find relevant enough to be mandatory listens: 465 Albums from the original list I *might* include in mine later on: 288 Albums from the original list I won't include in mine: 336 ---- Number of albums from the users list I find relevant enough to be mandatory listens: 95 (including this one) Albums from the users list I *might* select for mine later on: 112 Albums from the users list I won't select for mine: 232 --- Hey Émile, j'ai répondu sous Demon Days ET ta sélection pour la users list ! 🙂

I have to admit the cover is darkly ingenious. I have had bits of Korn exposure here and there over the years and presumed this was that unfocused yelling and rage one often finds in this genre. This album surprised me. These songs are really, really personal which I did not at all expect. This isn’t an album of general rage, but some very specific issues that someone seems to be working through. It was heavy but very compelling and I found myself listening to it several times through today - often studying the lyrics. Not what I expected to be doing. Nu metal for the thinker.

I enjoyed this far more than I expected to. It goes from rocking hard, to incredibly horrible and bleak, to completely stupid at a whiplash pace. Their bassist is hugely underrated - that filthy funk underneath everything makes the songs more than a 7 string dirge. In short, it's ace.

I never properly got Korn but I should, this bangs, and I end up liking more of their stuff than not. The first half of this album is so strong, Blind, Clown, Divine all outstanding tracks, the middle drags a bit but Fake through to the end is quality and gets a deserved 4/5.

Foundational nu metal album and a rare case that shows such intense emotional vulnerability, particularly on the final track Daddy which reveals a frank processing of trauma mid-recording. I understand including Follow The Leader on the original list for being Korn's breakout success album with the track Freak on a Leash, but their debut self-titled is leaps and bounds better. You get better riffs, less polish, and songs that better reflect the group's strengths overall. I understand a good chunk of listeners will find this unpleasant and off-putting, but for an album that wears its heart on its sleeve I find it to be a better pick than most. It's not for everyone, and that's okay. CONTENDER FOR THE LIST: Honestly, yes. Replace Follow the Leader with this.

“Blind”, “clown” and “shoots and ladders” were a big part of my childhood growing up. While I think I grew out of the music eventually, it was still important to me at the time. korn were a huge part of 90’s-00’s nu-metal. The intro on clown is a little obnoxious. While it is a bit dated, the nostalgia was nice.

I've always had the weirdest relationship with this band, because I used to talk endless shit about them because it annoyed Ko(backwards r)n fans. Overall, I think this album is an interesting work for 1994, and I don't want to hang what nu metal became on this album. I think the followup album was better, but this album lays some good groundwork for that album. I don't think I'll ever love this band, but my god their music has aged better than so many of their contemporaries Also, I forgot this motherfucker plays the bagpipes. I wish they would have used that more, especially since it would have reduced the amount he was singing, but it's awesome to have the pipe accompaniment to Shoots and Ladders. I am going to say that I hate the fucking cover of this album, though. I understand that they were trying to be edgy, but that line between edgy and creepy can be pretty thin, and I think they missed their mark here 4/5

I feel like I haven't listened to this album in over a decade and most of it hold up pretty well. There's a lot to unpack with this album as it touches on a lot of themes of abuse. I'm sure the overall vibe of Korn is a turnoff to a lot of people, but I can see how it works with the themes of the album. However you feel about it, this was absolutely a shock to most people when it came out and I'm sure it's still shocking to people today. I enjoyed it and glad to see it on the list.

Man this album was something, when it came out. It was hard, it was weird, it had bagpipes (!) and it was appealing for all those alternative kids (me being one!) to go creazy on the dancefloor on saturday night. And that's basically what this album still is for me: Memories. Where I was and with whom, when we used to play this on the boombox at full volume. Musically however, I've moved on. Still a fun listen to revisit, but that's about it.....although some of these track still rock HARD! :-)

Korn is one of those bands that didn’t pull any punches with the music they made. Intense, vulgar, and graphic lyrics are present in this album and that can definitely deter some people. However, music like this is life to some people. These harsh realities are what people don’t want to hear when they listen to music. Korn didn’t care their hardcore nu metal sound is the perfect way to implement their dark lyrics. It’s a well done album and there are some pretty solid songs on this album. Whenever I’m in the mood korn can be a good listen. 6.8/10

I really LOVE the korn numetal sound. Jonathan Davis' voice (especially the range and different styles he uses). The bass is so dark and dirty and the whole vibe can get so angsty, aggressive and heavy... there is SO much potential here. It works best for me on Blind, Daddy (the first few minutes at least) and Faget. The other tracks have that vibe, but it seems like it fails to deliver the big punch. A bit too uneven to recommend further.

Such a unique album sonically. The way the ultra low bass blends in with the kick drum creates a pit of mud at the bottom of the mix. Not to mention the eerie guitar tones and the inimitable Jonathan Davis. I’ve heard this debut being talked up for a while, and it is a solid record! Very interesting that a band as off-kilter as this could be a mainstream success in the 90s

A dark, dark record. I like it more than the record that was included on the list initially, but that doesn't mean it's a record I enjoy. It's a tough, abrasive listen, and getting through a full record of it took a lot. I do love how the bass is essentially used as an extra piece of percussion. Tough to say. Favorite tracks: "Helmet In the Bush", "Shoots And Ladders", "Need To"

I'm pretty sure we had a Korn album on the main list, right? I didn't know any tracks going into this but liked a few. The sort of "behind the scenes" vocal interludes were interesting. Korn is pretty cool. Not a band that I'd say we must listen to multiple from to get the idea, but I'm not mad at the pick.

There were a few songs on here that really showed just how many other bands emulated the work. I love Slipknot, and I could tell they pulled some of their gutteral guitars, clanging on things, just the general grunge type feel. It's one of those things that can work for everyone though I'd argue Slipknot did it better. Regardless, this is a watershed album and I'm glad someone suggested it.

September 21, 2025 HL: "Blind", "Faget", "Shoots and Ladders", "Helmet in the Bush" Well that was an especially long 10 minutes (looking at you, "Daddy") Follow the Leader was #402 /1089 on the generator- I rated it 2 stars, didn't honour it with a review. This debut, while not much easier on the ears, IS remarkable for being ahead of the nu-metal curve, predating Limp Bizkit and Kid Rock's breakthroughs by several years. I will admit that, despite not having any song as replayable as "Freak on a Leash", I found Korn's self-titled more consistent and immersive; a thick, misanthropic cloud of detuned riffs and growls. Producer Ross Robinson helmed some of my only 1-star albums from the O.G. list, like Slipknot (1999) and Roots (1996). Perhaps I treated you too harshly...

I don't know, this was fine I guess? It's got real 13 year old boy energy, and it's been a long time since I was a 13 year old boy. I Iiked this more than Freak on a Leash, and I think Korn probably deserves a place on the list, so this is a good pick. I didn't love it, but it's a great example of early nu metal and I'm glad to have listened to it.

Korn has always been one of those bands I could have liked but never did. Too much now metal and not enough depth.

Way too edgelord for me. They certainly rock hard but whole lyrical package is super skeeze.

While the production here is commendable, this band’s music has always felt homogenous and sludgy in an unappealing way. Even with the wrenchingly honest lyricism from the frontman on the final track, the LP just felt as if it lurched from one mids-drowned riff to another without much distinction.

Music for punching yourself in the head a lot out of self-hatred. This kind of thing doesn't really speak to me all that much, and I'd probably reach for something like Nine Inch Nails or Modest Mouse before this if I find myself in a depressive spiral. Doesn't really have any weirdo moves like "Freak on a Leash" from the other album, either.

I was the demographic of the target audience when this was released in 1994, so I definitely listened to this but quickly shed any interest in this genre of music pretty immediately. That being said, this is a lot better than I was expecting.

It's 1994 and Korn come on the scene, wow. It's 2026 and I have to listen to another Korn album, nostalgia, yes, enjoyment, not so much. Blind is the best track on this album.

For a while, Faith No More was the band that supposedly kicked off nu metal, saying they inspired bands like Korn. The band denied it. I can see why after listening to this album. I give credit to Jonathan Davis, he has very... unique vocals. The drums felt very... sloppy. I understand the point of "Faget," but just having him scream the title does not make it a song I would listen to it again. In fact, a lot of the songs just had him sing the song title at the top of his lungs. It got... tiresome. By the time I got to the last song, I was just... tired of it all. NEXT.

The beginnings of Nu Metal, which took over the music scene in the late 90's/early 00's, which happened to line up perfectly with when I was in middle school as a rebellious teenager. At the time I was trying to push boundaries and listen to more edgy music, and Korn came on the scene. I must say, Blind is the perfect album opener for a teenager looking to piss off his parents. Overall though, as influential as the whole nu metal scene was in shaping my transition into harder music, as an adult it doesn't really hold up. It's truly just thrashy, heavily distorted instruments, and yelling/swearing. Most of the time Jonathan Davis just growls anyways. So, to sum up, as a teenager, great....but as an adult....corny (pun intended). Favorite songs: Shoots and Ladders, Divine, Blind Least favorite songs: Clown (dumb intro) 2/5

I'm going to assume that this was added to say "See? Korn can be good!" And person who added this, you're right! This is much better than Follow the Leader. But this is still mostly dull.

Should this have been the one Korn album on the list, if the list needed to have one Korn album? Yes. Does that justify adding it to the user list? No. No it does not. I was thinking of scoring it a 2, as it is slightly better than, and came before, a lot of the nu metal badness that was to follow, but then "Shoots & Ladders" with its shouted "Knick knack paddywack give the dog a bone" bit gets a -1 all on its own. Fave track - Eh, "Blind" let's say. Got increasingly cringed-out as it went on, so the first track was the least cringe.

Throughout this 1,001 exercise, one's been impressed by the number of people who have a passion for such bands and for the metal genre (and all its subgenres) – one didn't quite grasp the size and extent of this community. But while one now better understands who and how many like it, the why (they like it) remains as baffling as ever.
