I must be missing something here. At least I can say I listened to it. Good thing I didn’t pay for it.

It sounds like a wannabe Paul’s Boutique album.
Good album if you are a Lou Reed fan. Otherwise 🤷🏻♂️

This is the album to listen to when you want to indulge your depression or after a recent break up. I love that there is not a single song that is written by a template. Listening to the instruments for 2 mins be fire lyrics comes in. The change in lyrical patterns. I was thinking of Robert Smith the 80’s version of Jim Morrison. Some are very obscure and worth delving I. To their meaning and the passion of the intonation. My first album happened to be one I owned already. 😀
Start off by saying this is not my preference in music. I understand this band has a large fan base, but I found nothing truly remarkable about this album. The music was formulaic in that once you heard the first few bars, it was just repeating that section until the song was over. I could not hear the lyrics. I tried adjusting the eq and other settings to no avail. “Jigsaw falling into pieces” was the only song to get my toe to tap. If this song came in the radio I would listen but not add to a playlist. Everything else I would have changed the station. Just my opinion.
Had optimism that it would be good, since I like many Yes songs. Guess it didn't hit me right. It was definitely Yes style, but nothing said "this is good".
Owned this almost 40 years ago. Can't wait to listen on the way to work!
Only really 2 songs I liked and Jennifer them the remake is better. Between the oohs and woos, if you cut those out the album would be about 25 mins.
A couple songs were definitely bangers. Metal is not much my thing anymore, but this sounded good. About halfway through I had hear about as much as I was going to. When the music when silent, only them did I know it was over.
So good. Have not heard this whole album before. Worth the listen.
This is generally not my style of music. I can hear jazz and a little bit of country influences. She has a talent for evoking a feeling, like a long distant memory, with words. I might give some of her other work a try. I would recommend this to a friend to give a listen.
Uneventful.
An album ahead of its time. It’s about “to thine own self be true”, positivity and a better future. Although it has an 80’s vibe, it is not dated. This is an album that I have never heard (other than what was on MTV or the radio), I’m glad I had the opportunity. These are the albums I am looking to find by participating.
Other than N.I.B. Which I knew previously, I did not find anything remarkable about the album. I feel bad that the beginning made me think of Riders on the Storm, which obviously came out later, I could not lose the comparison. I know this is an unfair comparison, but the album sounds like it wants to be Led Zeppelin with Eddie Van Halen guitar solos and not quite meeting either.
I commend them for trying some different things I.e. using their British accents instead of taking in an American Accent. Essentially it is a pop album with many 3 minute songs. “Boys and Girls” & “Parklife” are catchy tunes, but no real depth to the album. Hearing this once was enough for me, but found no value added.
Very much a pop album, but not formulated. I love his Live 8 performance. This was my introduction to Robbie Williams. I like the songs I knew. I did enjoy his use of vocabulary and the way he developed a lyric.
The song Tusk is a masterpiece. Instruments are good.
“And I want, and I need, and I list, animal” the play with words and how they sound is amazing. Love the fills and the call & response. The production elements for this album are top notch.
I must be missing something here. At least I can say I listened to it. Good thing I didn’t pay for it.
Just couldn’t. Got to the 3rd song and could not go any further. 1st album I could not complete.
Meh, nothing special.
Good album. I like the idea of having a theme throughout. Lyrics are intelligent and tell a story. I knew a few of the songs before listening. “Jesus Walks” DAMN! Such a great beat and arrangement. I will be checking out some of his other albums. Sidenote: this was a refreshing album to listen to. I’ve had quite a few albums recently “this is an album I needed to listen to?” U2, Dylan… big artist with large followings. The albums were nothing to recommend to a friend. I guess I will have to check the book to see how albums were chosen.
Sounded like the same song over and over again. If this had been a putely instrumental album, I may listen to it on occasion for the vibe, but the singing kills it for me. Would not recommend to a friend.

Never even heard of this group. Plea stay surprised. I was hearing a little early British pop with a Latin flair. I will be listening to more of this.
Nothing special.
Some funky groove lines.
It sounds like a wannabe Paul’s Boutique album.
This is the first band I saw in concert. Cult of Personality had just come out and tickets were $12. The instruments are full of life and production is good on this album. Although don’t think it is worth of the 1001. The second song sounds a lot like something Kiss would put out.
Music sounded good. Could not hear vocals. Worth the listen.
This is a case where the whole is greater than the sum if it’s parts. And the musicians are excellent. I don’t have the vocabulary to describe it as I wish, but this is my attempt. The production value is top notch. As I listened I imagined each instrument recorded alone and placed on a separate track. I could actually hear each note of each instrument. Everything was crisp and clear in perfect balance. If you are a fan of guitar you can focus and hear it. Drums the same. Bass, backup vocals, keyboard horn. Heck if they had a triangle on the song you could separate it from everything else and give it your sole attention. The beauty lies in how each of these parts combine, all contributing to form an amazing sound. I’m also amazed how the different parts play off one another. When one instrument is brought to the front, it will pause and give space. Instead of being a void, something like bass or drums will pop in with a fill. Not overpowering, just reminding you “I’m still here”. “Your Gold Teeth” demonstrated this well. Steely Dan is Lambda Lambda Lambda of “Revenge of the Nerds”. If not already a fan l, they are easily overlooked because of their unique style. But one introduced, they will knock your socks off. I loved Bodihisattva (thanks Rockband), Show Biz Kids (lost wages) and My Old School even before this listen to the whole album. I wanna give this a 4.5, but gonna give it a 5 for how well it compares to a lot of the 1’s I have heard recently.
Interesting. David Lee Roth basically ripped off this version of “Just a Jigalo” inflection for inflection. Enjoyed listening to it.
If you like early 70s guitar, then this is something to checkout. I was excited to hear some wary Steve Winwood, but nothing exciting from this album. I’ll give it a 2 because they had the tools to make something great, this just was not it.
One song had a section that interested me on the “Trans-National” song. The rest I could have lived the rest of my life not listening to.
Didn’t excite me.
Nothing spoke to me or made me happy to listen.
This is a great album. Back in the day, I could imagine taking a tumbler of my favorite adult beverage, turning the lights out, lean back in a char and listen to this with headphones. The production value is great. Musicians know how to get the sound they are looking for out of their instruments. Lyrics tell a story of a moment in time. How many artist can have a song about an appliance delivery person lamenting about rockstars. At the same time complaining that they have it too easy and regretting not putting more practice in to have the opportunity to be a rockstar. This album is deserving to be on this list.
I surprised how many hits there were on this album. She has a good voice. Glad I listen to the album. The album itself is not great, but for cultural significance I will give it a 3
Knew the first 2 songs. Everything else sounded like the same song over and over again.
The production quality is just horrible. Highs are muted. Layla is worth 2 stars on its own.
Preferred the female over the male singer. If just the female singer, album would be a good background music to turn the lights down and snuggle with someone close.
Could be liked with attrition. Knew one song, the rest was ok.
Much better than last album. Good guitars. Better altogether songs.
Okay.
Meh…
Liked the songs “When I Grow Up” and “Don’t Hurt My Little Sister”. Although I don’t know, I think they have better albums than this.
So happy this was my album today!
I never thought I would say that I like Joni Mitchell, but this album opened my eyes. I love her voice!
Mixing could have been better. I would have liked to hear a studio version. Crowd engagement with “Master of Puppets” was amazing.
Sound like an imitation of Smashing Pumpkins.
“Three great Alabama Icons” was interesting. Not being for the south a lot was lost in me.
Not as good as I remember.
How is this album in the list and not Paid in Full - Eric B & Rakim, which will be my suggestion once I finish the list.
Fun little album. Would not seek out to listen to in the future, but glad I was exposed to it. I can see how their fans would pile like this album.
P-funk! Listened to it twice back to back.
I would have liked to see Mano Negra -Puta’s Fever on the list instead. I love that album.
Brilliant album. Must listen with quality headphones. There are so many tiny details that add to the quality of the production.
The 80’s were great, just not this !
I never realized how much of a punk influenced they are. Although they can actually sing and notarize just scream in to the mic. An enjoyable album.
Outstanding!!
This group may have inspired others to do good things, but themselves are just meh.
Not my jam
Enjoyable for punk music. I may come back to this in the future.
Better than I expected. Instead of most folk albums that tend to sound lonely and marose, this album has many upbeat songs. The voices tend to compliment each other as well.
I’m not a fan of most folk music. I hear a lot of whining and longing in the music. So I was not looking forward to listening to this album. Once I started it up and heard her voice, I was immediately happy. She does not fit in with the rest of the music i regularly listen to, but I do enjoy her singing very much.
I’d like to give it a 3.5, but not a 4.
My favorite song was High Horses.
Fun album. Just the one banger, but if you enjoy 90’s dance music, is is a good background album.
I am impressed. I have no experience with the band. This is the type of album I was looking to find in this project. I don’t know how to describe it, but it is not you “let’s make 1 or 2 good songs and then grind out some filler. The instrument sting has some great grooves. I can’t say I fell in live with any particular song, but the album as a whole is good. I can just imagine what their fans say of this album. This is not going in my rotation, but if the mood strikes me, I will listen again and may check out more of their catalog.
This album just hits right.
It’s just another Bob Dylan album.
I enjoyed recalling all the songs that sampled from this album. Especially Apache & Last Bongo in Belgium.
Something you have to experience for yourself. Truly an album you need to head before you die!
Better than I thought it would be.
The third song sounds like an imitator Van Morrison. SMH
Good drums and guitar riffs.
Watch out for the Andrew Tate review on YouTube
Every single song is sooo good. This is a top 10 album of all time!
The most average of average albums.
Kick, Push is such a vibe
Listened to it twice, back to back. The horns, the rhythm and the lyrics! One of my all time favorite songs is “Into the Mystic”. The idea that the foghorn is a warning of danger, but to the guy in the song it means that he is getting closer to home where his lover is. Just brilliant!
I love the punk influences in this album. Elvis Costello & Joe Jackson making punk more palatable for the masses, with out disrespecting the genre.
“Refreshing” not a cookie cutter album, but infuses sounds to make something new.
So this album is basically on here for the one song. The rest is kinda meh. But the one song gives it an extra star. Vent: there are multiple albums on here just because of one song. This irritates me because the list is about albums not songs.
“There she goes” gets an extra star. The song itself is iconic. Most of the rest of the album is something I would put in for background music while cleaning house, but not really pay any attention to it.
I expected more based on their Spotify bio.
I wanted it to be better. I just didn’t hit for me. 🤷🏻♂️
Generally I avoid Kiss. But this album brought back some memories and hit just right.
This was great! I think the only one I like better is Dave Brubeck, but it is super close depending on my mood.
I sooooooo don’t get it.
This was the best Dylan album I have heard so far. Still only getting 2* anyway.
Wow this did not hit right for me. It was excruciating listening to this.
The one song keeps this from being a 1 star
This is such a fun album.
Not a bad album. Just not my taste.
Great production and music.
Pleasantly surprised by the instrument play. Was not a fan of the singing style. If this was an instrumental album it would be better. I wish I could give a 3.5 stars. I feel bad giving a 3, considering -1 for the singing, but giving it a 4 would mean it is a 5 start album without the singing.
Best Beastie Boys album!!!
I wish I could give this a 3.5. It rocks pretty hard. 4* seems too much, but 3* too little. I will listen to this again
The title track is oh sooo good, but the rest of the album is utter garbage. It’s bubblegum, supper sappy. If it was not for how good the title track is, this is a great example of a 1* album.
Happily surprised this was in the list. I only found this album about 3 years ago. It’s in regular rotation for background music while reading, although Roygbiv can pull my attention. Other albums in my reading rotation: Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works 85-92 Dave Brubeck- Time out Modijo-Modijo Cornelius - Point (note: listen to Drop in your best headphones) Miles Davis - Kind of Blue Machito - Kenya Rahul Sharma - Call of the Valley (Compilation) - Logical Progression Level 1 Most of these I found on the list
Reminds me of an up tempo Joe Jackson. Not as hard as punk, but with influences. The trumpet adds flavor and separates the music from being more punk.
Not what I expected form the name of the the album. Super chill. I’m giving this album 3*s. The album itself is ok for background music while doing other things. But I ended up listening to the associated songs Spotify played for about 3 hours after the album ended. I will be searching for more music like this.
Good album if you are a Lou Reed fan. Otherwise 🤷🏻♂️
Funky fun little album. I recognized several samples used in other songs.
I didn’t realize how much early Foo Fighters sound like a cross between The Beatles and Nirvana
Short story: Back in the 2Ks, spent most of my day listening to $20 Sony Earbuds. I was replacing them every few months because they are meh. I had recently been exposed to one of those table top Bose systems. It was remarkable the sound that came out of that little box. I decided I was going to invest my in some $115 Bose headphones. I figured if I could not tell the difference in the sound quality, between them and the Sony, I would just return them. I was telling my wife if my idea. Then I had an idea, to get an unbiased opinion, I asked my wife to listen and to them for me. I first let her listen to the 1st minute if a song on the Sony headphones. Then I restarted the song and let her listen on the Bose. It was like 15 seconds in and with the headphones still in her ears, she say “Yeah, you are not returning these”. Btw the song I played for her was Panama. She didn’t know who Van Halen was until we met. 🤣😂
