This was an album which didn’t really strike me as much more than fun the first time I heard it, yet it always kept finding its way back to my music rotation. It was only after a couple of listens that I found myself loving the album; hence, my recommendation. So, what do I love about this album? For one, I think the music is incredibly catchy, groovy, melodic, and simplistic, with some great sax licks as a cheery on top. Most importantly though, I think it showcases what a great songwriter Cameron is. He’s able to sing from the perspective of complete degenerates who most of us would find indefensible, yet through his humor he’s able to make you almost feel sorry for these pathetic figures. The exaggerated male bravado that he’s satirizing might fall flat on those who can’t really relate, yet there is no denying there is something quite charming about the whole theatrics of it all. Like a lovable asshole whose songs get you dancing and grooving as he sings about how he’s getting catfished by some Nigeran across the world.
