The Bends by Radiohead

Not my favorite Radiohead. It feels uneven to me, but it has it’s high points.

Wasn’t expecting to like this, but I enjoyed several songs quite a bit. As an album, it felt a little long

I don’t think I’d rate this so highly if I hadn’t listened to it so much in high school. So nostalgia’s doing a lot of work here, but I still love Ian Astbury’s unique voice and sometimes ridiculous vocal stylings. The Born to Be Wild cover is really awful, though.

Synchronicity by The Police
Jul 07 2025

I haven’t really listened to this entire album since the 80s, when it spent a lot of time in my Walkman, and I enjoyed listening again - particularly Tea in the Sahara and Murder by Numbers, which I had totally forgotten. A word about ‘Mother’: I remembered this Andy Summers tune, mentioned often in other reviews here, as a crummy song that I usually fast forwarded over. But when I listened today, it struck me as hilarious - like William Shatner covering Mr. Tambourine Man. The lyrics, the maniacal singing style and deranged laughing, the various ways he growls or squeaks “mother,” the accent he uses on the lyric “let this poor boy be,” all set against music that makes me picture his mother as an evil belly dancer - unintentional (I think) comedy gold.
