Spiritualized
4/5
Blondie
3/5
Some cool stuff outside the hits but kind of forgettable
DJ Shadow
4/5
I like it a lot more than last time I listened. Repetitive but with a purpose and if you go in expecting that it helps
Electric Light Orchestra
4/5
Pixies
4/5
I feel like this was probably an inspiration for Pinkerton. Great album
Radiohead
5/5
One of the GOATs
A Tribe Called Quest
4/5
The Band
4/5
Eric Clapton
3/5
Cool moments but mostly forgettable for me
Arcade Fire
3/5
About the fourth time I've tried to listen to this. It's good music but really not for me. I don't know what it is but I can't get into it. I can appreciate it for the impact it had though
Soundgarden
5/5
Great riffs, songs, vocals. Somehow an underrated album. One of my favorites
Elvis Presley
3/5
The Beach Boys
3/5
Hints at future Brian Wilson music, very interesting and cool moments but nothing amazing for me
Tracy Chapman
4/5
Better than I thought it would be and definitely worth another listen
Brian Wilson
4/5
Although it's silly and goofy at times, the compositions, arrangements and vocal harmonies are all reminiscent of the best aspects of the beach boys. A lot of great stuff here
Siouxsie And The Banshees
4/5
This is so cool and unique. I really haven't heard anything like this before and I love it
David Bowie
5/5
So powerful. Amazing album one of my favorites
Prince
5/5
Another favorite album and probably the best Prince album. Amazing song writing playing and singing
Nico
3/5
If I had been alive in the 60s I think I would have loved this. A lot of cool musical moments and nicos voice grew on me but I think it's best in smaller doses like on the velvet underground albums. I enjoyed it but probably won't listen again
Grateful Dead
2/5
I really just couldn't get through it. I like instrumental jams but I think the reason I don't enjoy the grateful dead is weak songwriting
Arctic Monkeys
4/5
Really awesome album start to finish. If I had listened to it more when I was younger I'm sure it would probably be a five or more
The Beau Brummels
3/5
Never heard of them before but this was pretty cool
Gram Parsons
4/5
Knew nothing about this one as well and really loved it. Felt like a time capsule
Moby
3/5
A lot of cool stuff here I just didn't connect with it. Probably more like a 3.5
John Cale
4/5
Another one I had never even heard of. Really cool songwriting and arrangement. Chamber pop aesthetic
LTJ Bukem
3/5
I liked it a lot more than I thought I would. Probably closer to a 3.5 maybe higher. Would definitely listen again
Minutemen
3/5
Cool stuff I think I need another listen. Interesting hearing the jackass theme out in the wild
Led Zeppelin
5/5
One of the greatest rock albums ever. I haven't listened in a while and it is just as good as I remember. A perfect blend of rock and roll, blues, folk and a glimpse of harder rock styles that were starting to emerge.
Magazine
4/5
I had never heard of this album or band either but wound up loving this one. Reminds me of television a little bit. Some tracks feel like they would fit in well in a Tony hawk soundtrack
Pixies
4/5
Probably my favorite pixies album
David Bowie
4/5
Such a cool unique Bowie album. Love this one. Feel like it could be the soundtrack to a Bowie video game
The Stone Roses
4/5
Great cult favorite album
Elvis Costello
4/5
Nice album had not heard this Elvis Costello one before
The Black Crowes
3/5
Pretty good but all the tracks blend together
Johnny Cash
4/5
I had only listened to hurt but I really enjoyed this album. More covers than I expected
Nick Drake
4/5
Love Nick Drake this is probably closer to a 4.5
The Doors
4/5
Some doors classics on this album. Great musicianship and really cool writing and changes. Traditional blues meets interesting and unique songwriting
Michael Kiwanuka
4/5
Never heard of this but it was great
Tom Waits
3/5
Really cool stuff on here but not an album I can listen to all the time. There are other Tom waits albums I enjoy more. I do like it a lot and I think it's one everyone should hear at least once but since I can only listen to it sometimes I feel it's probably closer to a 3.5
The Psychedelic Furs
4/5
Really enjoyed this one. Never heard of them but will definitely listen again
Booker T. & The MG's
3/5
Nothing so far has felt like more of a time capsule than this record. Crazy to think this kind of music was on the charts. Still great but idk how much I'd listen to this again
4/5
Great album. Probably 4.5 for me
Beatles
4/5
Love this album. Forgot how many actual bangers there are on here
Amy Winehouse
3/5
3.5 maybe a little higher. Great productions and songs
Jimi Hendrix
3/5
Classic album and obviously great playing but I forgot how much filler is on this album. If this could be cut down to 40 min or less it would be a five for me. Rhythm section is unsung and amazing.
Burning Spear
3/5
Good lyrics and message cool music but not for me
Dolly Parton
3/5
A great country album. Very high three for me
Tom Waits
3/5
I really respect and admire the artistry but it's not the most accessible album. Not as weird as rain dogs but somehow less accessible. Still enjoy it a lot
Frank Zappa
4/5
Love it
Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark
3/5
Cool harmonic months and I enjoyed it but overall kind of forgettable. Very 80s in a good way
N.W.A.
4/5
Lotta anger and great beats. Really solid but def old school
The Prodigy
4/5
Really loved this one
The Crusaders
4/5
Another time capsule album
Black Sabbath
5/5
Absolute classic
Alice Cooper
3/5
Probably wouldn't listen again but it was ok some cool moments
Earth, Wind & Fire
3/5
I liked it
The Allman Brothers Band
4/5
Far superior to the grateful dead live album
Gorillaz
2/5
I really like blur and much of the gorilaz other music but this album didn't do it for me. Besides Clint Eastwood there really aren't many memorable tracks. I respect the diversity and attempts but too many songs went on longer than they should've and too many misses for me
Bob Dylan
4/5
I listened to this when I was younger and I definitely appreciate it more now
Boards of Canada
4/5
Really really cool. I feel as though this pulled off what the Gorilaz album was trying to do in some ways. Not much here in the way of songs but very atmospheric and so many cool textures. I don't know how much I'd listen to it again it would have to be a certain mood, but I do really like this so probably very high 3 or lowest 4.
Paul Weller
4/5
I enjoy it a lot remind me of a bunch of different artists. The slower songs sometimes feel like Nick drake
Van Morrison
4/5
Really great live album. A lot of the songs are essentially blues tracks but the production and performances take this to a 4 for me
The Zombies
5/5
Classic art/chamber pop album
Black Sabbath
4/5
Great album
Bob Marley & The Wailers
4/5
Didn't think I'd like it as much as I did great album
Bruce Springsteen
3/5
I guess a higher three but still not a huge Springsteen fan
Mj Cole
3/5
Really cool but very repetitive and long
Culture Club
3/5
Good songs and I liked it probably 3.5
Peter Tosh
3/5
AC/DC
3/5
High three great classic rock album
Wild Beasts
2/5
I just didn't really enjoy it
Giant Sand
2/5
Honestly it's albums like this placed on lists like this that really make me believe my music deserves to be heard by way more people. It got better but it started out very rough
Elliott Smith
4/5
Great album. Not my favorite Elliott Smith but listening again after not hearing it in so long I definitely enjoy it a lot more than I remember
Ramblin' Jack Elliott
3/5
It's fine but doesn't really hold up to modern music
Fishbone
4/5
Really cool reminds me of Mr bungle
Can
2/5
Really not for me. Probably wouldn't listen again. No real structure or pay off very jam band
Elliott Smith
4/5
Another great Elliott Smith album. Production isn't as good as his later work but songs are great
Throbbing Gristle
2/5
There is not much here in terms of traditional songs. Whether or not there's much music here is an entirely different debate. There are a lot of cool ambient sounds over random conversations. It takes about four or five tracks before we even hear an instrument. When there is actual music it is quite cool. Kind of a difficult listen for me. Something like this has its merits but I'm not sure if it's on this list
Michael Jackson
5/5
Not every song is perfect but the amount of perfect songs on this album is too high to give it anything less than a 5
Violent Femmes
4/5
Great album
Simon & Garfunkel
5/5
Beautiful classic album
Madonna
4/5
I always meant to listen to this. Great album a lot of good songs
The Killers
4/5
Tons of bangers on this one
Kraftwerk
3/5
I can see the influence on artists like daft punk but too repetitive for me. Second half is better than the first
Public Enemy
4/5
Definitely some bangers on here but all the beats are very similar and the album is a bit too long I think. If it were shorter would be an easy four potential five. Hard to argue the impact of this and straight outta Compton. These records defines the sounds of the following decade. High three low four for me
Black Flag
3/5
Cool album
Talking Heads
4/5
Cool album
Brian Eno
4/5
Interesting to hear non experimental/electronic/ambient music from Brian eno. This was kind of like hunky dory David Bowie mixed with the talking heads
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
3/5
Long album. Cool but definitely odd and not quite for me
Slipknot
4/5
Hell yeah brother
Creedence Clearwater Revival
5/5
I love this album. One of my all time favorites
Hüsker Dü
3/5
I have never listened to husker du but I can see this being an influence on a number of bands like R.E.M., goo goo dolls, gin blossoms and others. Cool songs but I would've liked better mixes. Probably like a 3.5
This album is really good. I have only really heard beautiful day prior to listening to this but I liked this one a lot.
Dusty Springfield
4/5
Cool songs great arrangements great vocals
Super Furry Animals
4/5
Very interesting. Weird moments but also a lot of cool songs. Psychedelic and beatlesy
Morrissey
4/5
Never heard this one before. Arrangements are still reminiscent of the smiths but different enough that this is a new experience. Very cool I really liked it
Buffalo Springfield
4/5
Another cool album. I really enjoyed this as well
Fleet Foxes
5/5
One of my favorite albums in general and especially this genre
Björk
4/5
Very cool and unique. Probably like a 3.75
Jimi Hendrix
4/5
This album is also too long. Love Hendrix and these songs and jams are overall better than are you experienced (as well as better mixes) but it's just too long to give it anything higher
Willie Nelson
4/5
Beautiful bunch of standards very well done
The Pretty Things
3/5
Overall fine. Started out strong but a lot of ok tracks. Another album that's just too long for its own good
Bebel Gilberto
4/5
Beautiful album. Reminds me of Norah Jones if she spoke Portuguese?
Joan Baez
4/5
Great vocal and guitar performances. Too much vibrato for me but that's a personal choice. Great songs incredible how well this record holds up
Ella Fitzgerald
4/5
Beautiful ambitious album. I'm sure one day I will finish it although I doubt in one sitting since it's over three hours. One of the greatest singers of all time
Slint
3/5
Cool probably like a 3.5 maybe a little higher
Radiohead
5/5
One of my favorite albums and disk two also has great songs
Beatles
4/5
A great Beatles album. I have to try not to give all of them fives but object this has a ton of great songs and covers. Easily a 4 for me
Baaba Maal
3/5
Cool album and I enjoyed it. Refreshing to have an album not in English. Still, not sure I'd listen again
808 State
4/5
Very cool. Not something I'd normally listen to but I really enjoyed it
Nirvana
4/5
Haven't listened in a while but great album
Ramones
3/5
A lot of fun catchy songs but outside of the hits this album is pretty repetitive and forgettable
The Mothers Of Invention
4/5
This album rocks. Its so cool to hear Zappa's songwriting in the traditions and styles of the 50s and 60s especially compared to his later music. Loved this
Hawkwind
3/5
Definitely cool but way too long. I only listened to the first album which is an hour and already went on too much but the second disc is another hour. Cool music but definitely should've been condensed
Green Day
4/5
Great album tons of fun songs
Metallica
4/5
Awesome album making these songs fresh and interesting plus it being live is very cool
Jazmine Sullivan
3/5
Pretty cool songs mixes and vocals but not for me
The Velvet Underground
3/5
There are good songs on here but as an album there are a lot of dull points. Still worth listening to though
Jefferson Airplane
4/5
I missed this album last week and was putting it off because of its age and length but it was really great. Maybe a little less blues for me but otherwise super solid. 3.8/3.9
3/5
Great classic album. Didn't click with me as much as some of their other stuff but at least a 3.5
Sade
4/5
Great album wish I listened to it sooner
3/5
Kind of forgettable for me and wasn't crazy about the mixes
The Everly Brothers
4/5
I was hesitant about yet another old album but this was great and the vocal harmonies were really awesome
Donald Fagen
4/5
Really great
Cypress Hill
3/5
The hits are great and I enjoyed the rest more than I thought I would but felt like a lot of the same to me
Led Zeppelin
4/5
Great album although not as good as I remember. 4 but probably only because it's led Zeppelin. The bangers are amazing though
Thelonious Monk
3/5
Really high 3. Not my favorite monk. Maybe like a 3.75
Beastie Boys
3/5
I mean it's objectively not good but that's not the point. It's certainly not bad. Because of the hits I'd say 3.5
Songhoy Blues
3/5
Cool and worth a listen but probably won't come back to it
The Chemical Brothers
4/5
Really cool interesting album. A bit too long for me but cool ideas and songs
Elvis Presley
3/5
Fine nothing crazy or notable
Deep Purple
3/5
Probably like a 3.5. cool stuff but not my favorite
Neil Young
3/5
Enjoyable but kind of boring. Nothing really notable on the album
Raekwon
4/5
I enjoyed this a lot but wish it was a little shorter
Neil Young & Crazy Horse
4/5
Much better than the last Neil Young album on here. I haven't listen to this in a while but it's great
Radiohead
4/5
Great album I love it more each time. Not a 5 to me but close 4.5
Madonna
4/5
I liked this album a lot too. Probably a high 3 like a 3.8
Le Tigre
4/5
I really liked this and I can see the bands that it inspired
Ice T
3/5
Idk I'm just not really interested but not bad
Neil Young & Crazy Horse
4/5
Good album haven't listen in a long time
The Pharcyde
3/5
Cool album. Some interesting musical ideas but overall beats are really repetitive. If you're familiar with 90s hip hop at all you probably have a good idea how this record sounds
Motörhead
3/5
Pretty cool probably like a 3.5. I didn't know any songs besides ace of spades but I can see the influence this had on other bands specifically kill em all by Metallica
Janelle Monáe
3/5
Ambitious but fell short for me
Minor Threat
4/5
Really liked this a lot. Great punk album and short
Mike Oldfield
3/5
Really cool musically but I don't see how often I could listen to this otherwise I'd give it a four
Aerosmith
4/5
Really good classic rock album
Snoop Dogg
3/5
Carol Anne enjoyed it more than me lol but it was good and lots of interesting beats and melodies. Higher than 3 but not a 4
Miles Davis
4/5
Awesome album maybe even 4.5
Jimi Hendrix
4/5
My favorite Hendrix album
Pink Floyd
4/5
My problem with this album has always been that it's too long and I stand by that. Double album or not. Still though, some amazing musical moments and songs on here.
Paul McCartney and Wings
3/5
Really enjoyed probably like a 3.5 though. Not as good as some of the solo McCartney stuff
Beck
4/5
Beautiful album but I prefer morning phase similar vibe
Billy Bragg
3/5
Nice songs voice is a little hard to get used to
Everything But The Girl
3/5
Cool album great vocals good songs but just ok for me
Foo Fighters
4/5
Great album I really like this one. One of my favorite foo fighter albums
Talking Heads
4/5
I like talking heads music a lot but I just can't connect with it
Carpenters
4/5
Absolutely beautiful album at least 4.5
Wu-Tang Clan
3/5
I don't really understand the cult status of this one. Musically, there's not much that's interesting here. And when something is interesting it's not really developed upon. Almost every beat is a 1-4 bar loop on repeat. Sometimes the beat drops but the arrangements almost never change.
I can see how it was influential and important, but like most early 90s hip-hop I feel it doesn't hold up well today. A few song do, but as an album there were a lot of skips for me. Everything also sounds way too similar. Barely a 3
Happy Mondays
4/5
This album is right up my alley I really enjoyed it
Anthrax
3/5
Very cool album but songwriting is not as interesting for me as Megadeth or Metallica. Still some great stuff here though
Linkin Park
4/5
A classic album. Really struck an amazing balance between catchy hooks and heavy songs. A couple of tracks that are weaker than others but all still very strong
The Police
3/5
So interesting to me that one of their most popular, catchy songs came from their most experimental album. Very cool but pretty out there at times
The Who
4/5
I only knew my generation going into this but it was a really solid album. Songs are ok but led by really great performances on every instrument. Enjoyed this one more than I thought I would
Simple Minds
2/5
Some cool mixes but really couldn't get into this one. Probably wouldn't listen again
Yes
4/5
Awesome album
The Incredible String Band
2/5
It feels like medieval court music. Unfortunately I didn't enjoy it and would not listen again
Joanna Newsom
4/5
Quite unlike anything I've heard. It feels influenced by bjork, kate bush, Fiona apple and so many more. Really interesting and unique
Sugar
4/5
I can hear the influences of many bands like the pixies, smithereens, and others. Really enjoyed the album
Alanis Morissette
4/5
Classic album. Tons of great songs
Manu Chao
3/5
Cool album. Worth the listen but probably won't listen again
Coldplay
5/5
I was trying to think of why this isn't a 5 star but I can't. I love this album and it has so many good songs. Coldplay did great things after this (as well as bad things) but this album is a no skip classic
Beach House
4/5
