1001 Albums Summary

It's hard to believe this was 1978. Such an 80s punk sound, must've been one of the OG's. Perfect for a Friday afternoon of work.

This is definitely a moody Cure I don't normally listen to.

This was about as "meh" as rock can get. The album cover says it all, normal room with some dudes. definitely maybe.

I really liked song 1, "Shining Star", but then the album is pretty mellow. It's great though, really good band.

This is a great album. So different from anything in that time. And of course the legendary "Message for Rudy"

A very light album aside from "le freak". Everything is very mellow and chill. Enjoyable.

Some greats on here. I'm surprised he did Tutti Frutti so fast, it felt a little overdone.

This is widely different. So cool for 1963. I found I could just have it on and enjoy it while doing other things, or I could focus on it completely and hear the little nuances

Every song on this album is just great. So 70s folk. Of course the lead is really good. The rest have a nice mix of mellow and bangers

This album is very consistent. For a death metal style it's probably what you are looking for.

This is not something I would normally listen too. I wish it had _why_ it was one of the 1001 albums you must here. Was this original at the time? Something new? The songs are good, but just too light and mellow for my taste.

Wow! What an amazing album. Hard to believe this was mostly one guy in his basement. So many great songs and the production quality is almost too good.

1969 - Crazy. Definitely a leader in this sound. The album was really good. No stand outs, but generally awesome.

It's really too bad he couldn't get someone else to sing his songs. I've never been a fan of that voice, but listening to this entire album makes me feel justified in that. Great Canadian, but horrible singer, not sure how he became as big as he did, but I guess Justin Bieber did too and he's also a horrible singer.

This is pretty much how I remember Bjork. It was certainly different for the time, and had that one hit that pushed it into main stream

Yeah, so that's an album. I used to think I had a mumbling problem. Turns out I'm just a rock star. Very different stuff on this one. He mentions it's fuelled by cocaine and mary-jane ... you can kind of tell.

I imagine this was quite the album for 1981. I own it, and I still just like the one song.

This is definitely the Smiths. I always feel like you have to be in the right mood for the Smiths, but when you are, they crush it.

The fact that this album was included makes me think the book came out about the same year. One hit wonder.

I was never really into The Who ... hearing it live doesn't make me more into it ... I think The Who and Me are in two different worlds.

It's OK. It certainly has a style, and the whole album flows together, but I do wonder if you took out the gaps would you even realize it wasn't just one long song.

This certainly makes you feel sorry for Elliott. The melancholy and sadness in the songs is just depressing. I can't imagine they brought him much joy. Not sure why this is on the list. Unless as a warning to others; bring joy, the world already has enough sadness.

This is a very different album. Unique style.

I can see why he became famous. Some songs feel like they were just thrown together though. Swears so much it loses all meaning.

Immediate thought: Elliott Smith again ... how depressed was the team that made up this book? After listening though, it wasn't as bad as the other album. Still melancholy but not to the point of hopelessness.

This feels like 1,001 albums you won't believe got a record deal I'm not sure how this band got out of their garage. No catchy tunes, no inspiring tunes, no "I get that feeling" tunes. Just random blah blah blah with piss poor singing and almost good musicians. You could easily get this quality by walking down the street and listening to random garages ... I got song 8, but I'm just going to listen to my toilet drip now instead of the last 3 songs.

Added one song to my liked list, so that's something. Fantastic singer, just not my cup of tea.

This and Weird Al's Eat It were the first albums I owned. Given to me for my 12th birthday. Likely due to that it has a special place in my heart. That said the songs are amazing and leading of with "Wanna be startin somethin" what a perfect track one.

I noticed immediately that this album has very few listens. After listening, I knew why. But WHY did it make the 1,001 albums you MUST here ... I think it's because it's such a rarity. Until this app was made, I think there were 6 people who had heard it before, and you could be the 7th. But of course, now with the app, I was like the 27,000th, still not bad. I can say I was OG to hear this one.

This album being on the list pretty much makes the whole list invalid. There is never a reason to listen to this. NO ONE dies with regret over not hearing this album. I'm sure people LIVE with regret that they've heard it. It's like some guys got together in their basement and made a thing ... anyone could do it (and 90% would do it better)

Listening once is probably worth it, but it would get very annoying if you did more than that.

This is a great album. So unique to what was out at the time and even now still holds it own. Fast Car has been redone so many times because it's a legend

When you put a 22 minute song on an album, it better be good. For 1974, I think this was different. It was unique and new! But now it's stale and repetitive. Sounds like early AI music, which is stunning considering how far away AI was ... :D

Some of this album didn't age well. Obviously using current tech and just fascinated with it. But a lot of it is still good.
