1001 Albums Summary

This is one of my favorite albums. I've listened to Marty Robbins my whole life. I remember when he had a variety show on tv. He's the real deal. A true entertainer.

Classic blues. Lively and true.

I don't usually listen to heavy metal music from this era. If I listened to this without the background of when it was created, I wouldn't think much of it. However, knowing the context and history, it's pretty powerful. I doubt I'll start listening, but it could definitely grow on me.

That was fun.

A classic!

Love it. Capturing a moment in time with one of the greats.

They have an beautiful, ethereal style that, for me, requires a specific state of mind.

Such fun. I'm embarrassed to say that I've always considered Courtney Love to be 2nd rate artist, but, again, embarrassed, I've never listened to Hole. This is great music. So tight with the era. My apologies to Ms. Love and the band. I've wasted 30 years of my life.

One of my favorites

I am morally offended by John Lennon and Yoko Ono.

Is good

Very nice. Very much of the era.

Oh boy. This is not my cup of tea. I've spent about as much time as 3/4 of this album listening to rap (or hip hop). It's a garrulous, joyous explosion of talent and fun. I can't say I love it, but I see why people do. I need a few more listens to understand it.

This is not at all what I expected. Reminds me of John Frusciante a bit. Very fun. Lots of creativity and talent.

This is great.

This fun and fresh.

Love it.

It's just all right.

This is great.

What can I say, it's Michael Jackson.

First stuff. Punk for the masses.

This takes me back to the old black and white movies I watched as a kid only somehow very cool. It's really beautiful.

This is a classic. The Who's best.

Great American music. Ray Charles is the best!

This is fun. Not exactly my thing, but I like it

I haven't listened to Leonard Cohen very much. He's very much of his time. I like it. I hear at lot of influences from musicians who followed him.

Great stuff.

I enjoyed that way more than I was expecting. The homey, country vibe is fun. I definitely hear the influence on Nirvana. I favorited this band.

Love this. It's from my era. Wish I had listened to ELP more when I was younger.

Yeah, nah..

You gotta love Dylan.

Yes! I'll always listen to this album.

These guys were ahead of their time. Brilliant.

This is really nice.

This is fun. Not my cup of tea.

I'll always stop to listen to Steely Dan.

Meh. I know we're supposed to love how radical the pixies are, but it seems like a lot of whining to me.

Not my cup of tea.

Great stuff.

Classic

Classic

Meh

Love it. Timeless, but very much of their time. Smooth, mellow, lovely, and lively.

Yeah. This is good stuff.

Yeah. I've listened to these guys much. But they're all right.

A classic.

David Bowie is an icon.

This is great music. I'd never listened to it before, but I like the style.

Not a fan

Yeah. Fun.

Love it

There are threads of so many genres in this music. Itself is dated, but it predicts a lot

I like it. Smooth, cool.

I don't hate it.

Great classic songs.

I like pictures of you better.

Yeah. Not for me. This may show my ignorance, but this sounds like generic heavy metal you'd hear played in the background in a movie.

Nah

I was surprised by this. Good music. She has a beautiful voice. More bluesy than I would have expected.

Meh.

Never heard this before. Love it.

I liked this more than I thought I would.

Nice. Solid rock and roll

Not my thing

It's all right. Seems a bit dated if you know what I mean.

Not bad

This hurts my molars.

It's okay.

First time listening. I see why people like it.

I love this album. I've listened to it for 50 years. It's part of my musical DNA.

This is not for me

This is beautiful. Ms. Vaughn's voice s is smooth as silk. Luscious and sensuous. The backing band is on point, too. I need more of this is my life.

This is very much of it's time. Early psychedelia with the juxtaposition of the staid with the weird and wacky.

I need more Bowie. He's so talented and creative.

I mean, it's Stevie Wonder! He's in a class all his own.

Very much of it's time.

Classic songs. But really just a couple you'd listen to more than once. The weird thing is they were a band from San Francisco who sounded like they were from southern Alabama pretending to be from Louisiana.

Interesting. Probably never listen to it again.

I have no idea.

I like it.

It's Bob Marley, man!

This bright, campy, quirky cheerful music. The band is obviously very talented.

I like it

Yeah

I've been listening to Jefferson Airplane most of my life. The top hits are obviously well known and regarded. I was surprised by some of the other songs (without Slick as the lead singer). They are very psychedelic. Good stuff. I agree with the other reviewer who says, we need an 8 minute version of White Rabbit. Jerry Garcia played on this album. I want his kind of noodling.

For women who claim to be independent of men, they sure sing about them a lot. They need to check out the 4B movement.

This is a great album. These guys were just making music they loved.

I've never really listened to Meat Loaf beyond the big hits, but I am impressed at his talent. Yes, the music is theatrical and overly dramatic, but the guy has skills. Very impressed. Now I know who Jack Black modeled his rock star persona on.

Dark, sexy, sultry.

Love it.

Love this. It's easy to see why she's so successful.

I've discovered I don't care for any Beatles post-Beatle. Just overly self-indulgent. Honestly, I only like their early pre-superstar music.

I love this album. It was the first record I bought.

This is not bad. I've never listened to this band before. Not really my cup of tea, but obviously talented.

This is very nice. Reminds me of Radiohead.

This is not what I expected. Very listenable.

This is a phenomenal album that is a milestone in alternative music of its time, but I don't know if people will be listening to it years from now.

I only know this band from Smoke on the water. I'm really impressed with the musicianship.

What can you say about Dolly Parton? She's an icon in country music and in our general culture. She's a lovely human being with a carefully crafted public persona. She will be missed.

Love this. One of the few bands that I hadn't listened to that I am listening to days later.

It's okay. I've never been a huge fan, but it's definitely listenable.

I don't care for this. Not sure why.

I don't know why these people get so much hate.

Not bad. Kinda generic punk after a few songs.

I really enjoyed this.

One of my favorites.

This is so much apart of the era. I hear things that remind me of the Grateful Dead. James Taylor, Buffalo Springfield, and on and on. Really nice. Going to continue listening.

He's got some classics but overall I'm not feeling it.

No. I enjoyed his wife's music much more.

These guys are a fun listen.

This is beautiful, ethereal, psychedelic if a bit over produced. Not my thing.

Carnivalesque. Didn't get past the 2nd song

Classic.

Never heard of them. Kinda liked it.

I can see why she was so popular. Very powerful, emotive singer with a beautiful voice.
