Eh
This was much better than expected. Loved the unique guitar sound and rhythms. Will definitely add it to the rotation.
Nice bit of alternative history there

Great music. Energetic and fun
i did not really enjoy my first The Cure album at first, so my first exposure to gothic rock was not great. However, this was great.
Where has this been my entire life?! No doubt an influence on lots of the stoner rock I've enjoyed. Such clear, well-produced vocals.
Really enjoyed it at first! Sounds surprisingly contemporary(2026) for 1981. Got tired of it by the end of the album though. Too much of the same to be 5-stars for me. I will listen to some of these songs again in the future, but probably not the whole album at once.
Had always associated this band with the punk movement, but this is musically more interesting than punk. However it's lyrically repetitive and not especially musically varied within each track, which suggests it's aimed at the dancefloor. Nevertheless a decent listen.
Got worse the more I listened. Ultimately just turned into a bit of a racket. Will not revisit.

sioux good!
Very good album. A 3,8
Spellbound!
I enjoyed the punk/indie energy this gave off, although it was pretty one-note
Никогда не был фанатом этой группы. Их звучание для меня слишком агрессивное и гремящее. Спеллбаунд – хорошая, а остальное – не в моем вкусе
Listened. That was a good one!
Much like the previous album, it was a good listen with some notable songs. I am not sure I liked this one as much as the previous album I listened to, but it was still great. First half was better than the second, but Voodoo dolly was also fantastic. I think my standout track was Arabian Knights. 3.5 stars
This was awesome. Kind of like a predecessor to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Needs more bass though
Well I really enjoyed this one. Bloody fine album with no bad songs on it. Halloween is the best track on the album in my humble opinion. So: 4/5
For any other band, this would be a five star classic. For these folks it's just setting the table. It's incredible, but I prefer a bunch of others, so I'll give it 4 because I know where they go. So good.
This is the perfect mix of weird and pop music, I don’t even know how to describe it. It feels like standard 80s music, but it’s got enough of a weird twist to it to keep pulling you back in.
I do own this one. Siouxie Sue, the godmother of Goth, one of the founders (the Cure came about a year later. Robert Smith was the Banshee's original guitarist). by far the best song on the album is "Spellbound". possibly my favorite song of hers (and "Hong Kong Garden"), it highlights Siouxie's strong and powerful voice. other standouts are "Arabian Knights" and "Night Shift"
I struggled between giving it a 2 or 3 because I really didn't enjoy listening to it, but on the other hand I appreciated the artistic direction and creativity. It was never boring, which was cool. It wasn't mainstream while not being obnoxious. Wouldn't listen to again, but definitely should be on this list.
Not a fan of the genre. Don't know enough to compare to other music of the same genre. It was an average one time listen.
I was expecting something but got a lot of average. Nothing special here.
An ok album. Not blown away.
Not offensive, but not my style. Bar/club dancing in the early 80's. B-52's with an anguished spirit.
Afterwards, listened to some Echo and the Bunnymen to cheer myself up.
I see souxsie and the banshees as one of the greats when it comes to the post-punk and gothic rock era of the late 70s and early 80s. Up there alongside The Cure, Depeche Mode, and Sisters of Mercy. I have heard some albums of theirs before such as Through the Looking Glass and Peep show, and while those are alright albums I feel like this one is more appealing with its alt rock vibe while the others lean closer to trip hop. I still do like a few songs on those albums like Peek a Boo and Hall of Mirrors, but this one feels more accessible. I will definitely listen to more albums of theirs that appear on here.
Its ok but at times seems kinda rambling and incoherent. but some of the sounds are pretty cutting edge for the time.
Mmmmm tasty post-rock. It reminds me of The Cure, Bauhaus, and Florence + The Machine all rolled into one. Gimme more, please.
Oh wow, oh wow. I enjoyed this so much. I hear so much in here - Joy Division, Patti Smith, The Slits. But Siouxsie and The Banshees take all these influences and make them unmistakably their own. The goth-punk sound of this album is exhilarating and super enticing. The whole album is remarkably cohesive without being one-note. Songs like Spellbound, Monitor and Voodoo Dolly create a palpable atmosphere that is dark, moddy and creepy but never disinviting, still palatable without being boring or milquetoast. I guess it's time to finally dive into Siouxsie and The Banshee's discography for good!
Took me back, it was ok.
This album always begins off kilter for me. It’s like it’s too fast and we’re not in the same groove. But as I let it go, I inevitably get caught up into it, and by the time I hit the 12” remix of Spellbound I am - Spellbound. 4 Boolean: True
love
very spooky very halloween, maybe a bit too much for me without spilling over into absurdist territory (positive) like duck stab, maybe im just listening to this at the end of the day when I am tired but it gave me a headache, need to listen to again since it is highly rated within this group but wanted to put my review up in the meantime so I can get caught up and reference this later when I re-listen
MONITOOOOOOOOOR
yeah i love this shit . powerful catchy riffs, siouxsie's voice absolutely kills, & that drummingggg is just so good. love the slightly polished but still gritty diy sound. i haven't seen any recordings but i bet they had a really fun live show. perfect ooky spooky goth halloween time music. definitely gonna keep playing this one for a bit. I'm gonna say it again. goth night at rips. on Thursday ok. see you guys there
bisschen Jefferson Airplane Vibes, wenn sie nicht Hippies wären
Okayish
Great October album. Goes hard
"Spellbound" is exceptional, and it's a tough act to beat for the rest of the album. Regardless, it sticks the landing, and it makes for a great listen! I like the ambient, dream-y, sometimes distorted soundscape of this album, and there's a lot of understated cool moments and production choices. I loove the guitar sounds through most of these songs too. There's a lot to love--it's a record that's both haunting and gothic and beautiful and even a little avant-garde--and I guess I'm spellbound enough to give it a 5. STAND-OUT SONG: "Spellbound" HONORABLE MENTIONS: "Arabian Knights," "Night Shift," "Into the Light"
At best this is only going to be the second best album named Ju Ju. But it's actually pretty fun - had low expectations but they were exceeded. Not sure I'll come back to it but enjoyable. Highlight - 'Night Shift', I really like the groove. Actually ... 'Head Cut' too, I feel like this album gets better in the back half.
this was tight i thought it was really good
Dette var litt rart
Arriving from the angry punk era, the post-punk bands deliver a more open sound. Siouxsie And The Banshees adds a more dark approach to this open sound and it works. The voice of Siouxsie Sioux stands out, but also musically this album delivers. Especially the guitar playing of John McGeoch is exceptional. Will definitely play this record more often.
Cool album, il probably listen again. If it were maybe 5-8 years newer I think I’d love it
I was expecting great things when the album first started but it became a bit repetitive and of its day. Disappointing.
This made me feel uneasy while listening. I will force myself to listen to it again, just in case it's an acquired taste. Nope, can confirm that the second listen did not help. Although Arabian nights was kinda cool.
love female rock
That was sick!!! Hadn’t properly tried Siouxsie before and i’m impressed. Standouts are Halloween, Night Shift and Sin In My Heart.
Such a great album. Love Siouxsie. I even named my cat Banshee in honour of this band (and because she wailed for three days like a banshee when I adopted her first).
9.5 / 10
I didn’t mind this one though again I’m not in the best mood today so I think I will relisten to it later and reevaluate my opinion. Tho overall I liked that the singer was a woman and she had a pretty good voice and I liked the atmosphere of a few tracks but overall I just don’t think this is for me. The punk genre strikes again. I think I’d give it an overall 3.0023/5
Allready listened to, 10/10 amazing album
I wanted 3.5 - its very catchy, but nothing is so memorable...
Siouxie and the Banshees have been on my list for ages and, for one reason or another, I never got around to giving any of their stuff a fair listen. I heard "The Passenger" and liked it, but not much else. Siouxie is a riveting performer and the band behind her is no worse than she. I was surprised at the progressive moves this album took in its soundscape (the mimetic percussion line after Siouxie sings "throw them down the stairs" made me chortle, as an example). This is a group that does not fear pushing boundaries, and sometimes you'll get a miss here and there, but the biggest sin in my view was keeping "Voodoo Dolly" as a seven-minute cut, where the gang made their point after about three minutes. To give that runtime to the extended tracks on the deluxe edition would have been time better allocated. There is enough brilliance here to clear four stars.
Post-punk, gothic rock.
Wasn't big on this one. They have a decent atmosphere, but the album didn't have many stand-out tracks to me and I found it pretty boring overall.
I really can’t get into this genre.
Me encanta este disco. Me siento en una pelicula de brujas contemporánea.
Not bad, but it didn’t really click with me. A few good moments, but overall it felt a little boring.
A decent album, the slightly darker more avant garde stuff doesn’t really land as well for me but the rest is pretty good, I like the guitar work, is it just me or does it sound like Deftones nicked the into riff to Monitor for Be Quite and Drive? 3.4
Don't like the production style of this and never really got into this when I've listened before.
Sweet record
I'd never listened to this before but now realise that loads of music I listen to today is influenced by these guys. The guitarist's style and sound in particular. I like it a lot.
I didn’t know annnnnything about this band. I dig the album! I have no idea what “post punk” means but there’s some great songs on here that I could imagine hearing on modern alt rock radio
Will need multiple listens to properly digest/enjoy, like most post-punk albums, but wow those guitars…
A very enjoyable listen this morning, and much needed after that System of a Down album yesterday.
My favorite Siouxsie and the Banshees. Such a solid record. Spellbound and Arabian Knights were the huge hits but, the whole album is strong. Ok… I’m not crazy about Voodoo Dolly, but overall great band (John McGeoch’s guitar is amazing) and Siouxsie is an icon. Her voice on this record has a power that seems to hit a new plateau. 4.3
Perfect spooky vibes for the season 🦇🕸
Siouxsie is goated
Post-Punk royalty. 9/10
Less obnoxious than I thought it would be for what seemed like a typical 80s hair band. I wouldn't be likely to revisit but I didn't hate it.
Hypnotic vocals
Absolutely fantastic. Sioux managed to blend raw abrasiveness with whimsical sensibility like no other artist before (well, maybe just Jim Morrison who was her greatest inspiration). A true mark on the history of goth and punk music, no song here is skippable. Highlights: Spellbound, Into the Light, Monitor
Now we're talking. Dreadfully, woefully underrated in many circles, I find, and I seriously don't understand why. There are serious hooks that worm their way into your ears, luscious production, and an amazing visual aesthetic -- tell me who looks cooler than Siouxsie Sioux? Grace Jones? This is a band that should be on the Mount Rushmore of English post-punk. 'Spellbound' is an all-timer for me --I'm always caught off guard by the acoustic guitar, which gallops like it was a herd of stallions off the chain. It's amazing. The opening riff for 'Monitor' has such a delicious charge and crunch; you can see why Billy Corgan would take this record and create a whole musical sensibility from it. Can't go on about the guitar tone on this record without mentioning John McGeoch, who was really firing on all cylinders on this one. He makes the guitar sound like it's breathing: hard gusts, slow circular pumps, shallow, gaspy breaths. 'Head Cut' is another favourite for me and proves that the record is NOT front-loaded at all, and shows off the real undulating groove of Budgie and Steven Severin. Many great bassists and drummers in English post-punk, and once again, these two create such a satisfying sound that isn't talked about enough.
Foundational
The first side is gas! The opener and closer on the second side lean hard into atmosphere and came off a bit much for me but the punchy tracks shine through. Getting a lot of Sonic Youth vibes on this one.
En tiiä ei vaa jaksanu ny tällästä
очень добротно и нет противной духоты постпанка при этом сохраняется его колоритность. зашлооо
Really good. Now understand why kids would turn up one day at school dressed in black with spikey hair.
Ok
A classic of the genre. Can't go wrong with a little Souixsie. This is a regular on my playlists regardless of its appearance on the 1001 Albums list. (5/5)
Essential goth listening
Siouxsie er så cool. Stor stor 4
Første 5er til et album jeg ikke har hørt før i et hot minute, det her er SÅ meget mig
This was great! Noisy guitars and a very angry voice! 🤝 One of the best post-punk albums we've had
One of the best goth albums ever. 9/10
Great
Great atmosphere, and I can tell it has been very influential to the music I love later down the line. Still, this album doesn't do much for me in terms of melodies and chord progressions. Then again, I probably should've just seen them live at the time. Faves: Spellbound, Arabian Knights
Was not expecting to like this. It's a combination of Paramore and Heart.
Almost a classic
Good
Rock Band? Maybe it's the name of the song or the fact that I've been listening to Parannoul again recently but Into The Light reminds me of Into the Endless Night, especially the distortion on the guitar and the build up toward the end. Not to mention their album art is oddly similar.
Meh could’ve been worse
Best Track - "Spellbound"
Have only really heard songs from Siouxsie And The Banshees here and there. This was my first time listening to an entire album from start to finish and I thought it was pretty solid. Album was well assembled with the opening track being a great start and then flowing through to the end. I would definitely give this album another listen and decided it was a solid 8/10. This album gets 4 stars.
4 Spellbound is a hell of a song. Good album all round too
