1001 Albums Summary

Quintessential Metallica (if you weren't a thrash metal fan). Departing the thrash metal scene, they turned their attention to Hard Rock (Heavy Rock etc), and boy, did they deliver on this album. Definitely their best non-thrash album and this album again helped change metal/hard rock into the 90s.

Too "sinthy" for me. I enjoyed songs such as Dull Life, Heads Will Roll and Soft Shock, but this isn't an album I would listen to again. 2-3 stars (I would give it 2.5).

I suspect this album will be quite divisive. For me, not my cup of tea.

Kick in the Eye is probably my favourite. Plenty of groove and reverb on this album.

Peter fucking Gabriel. This would be his best album. His true breakout album. What a legend!

It's raw and it's original. It's simple. It's the beginning of what would eventually become American punk. As I understand it, this album came out before the first Remones LP. 3/5.

While the Beach Boys provide an incredible foundation to later music (and longevity), this is not a choice I would have made myself. Much respect to them for many, many years of hits and incredible music but this isn't my jive.

Interesting to listen to. Raw. A throw back, definitely.

"Rikki Don't Lose That Number". Classic. Skipped through the rest of the album. 3 stars.

So many absolute classics here. Buddy Holly was so unique for his time and his lasting legacy on music during and after the 50s cannot be understated. I didn't come to this site for Rock & Roll from the 50s, but I am glad I heard this album again after 30 or so years. Timeless.

Nope. Doesn't really resonate.

Oldie. Not my style. Definitely a classic in terms of its roots in what was to become rock music in the 70s. Can feel the country, blues and folk influences.

Why was this ever released?

British Steel. The NWOBHM. These guys EMBODY the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. Rapid Fire, the opener, hits hard. Breaking the Law and Living After Midnight, the obvious standouts here. A song that has stood the test of time with its catchy hooks. The rest of the album is full of hard-hitting, catchy songs a fan of metal would naturally enjoy - with of exception of United. One of the best of all time (mainly for nostalgia). Metal just ain't metal if Priest ain't around.

Big sound. Not my favourite Muse album. Still worth a listen.

The Stones were frankly before my time but are such a classic band in the realm of rock 'n roll. Fans of the Stones would love this album as it's in their prime. The time of American "gritty" R'n'R. Brown Sugar and Bitch are my favs here.

If you like unplugged, Nirvana sound great here.

Bangers. All bangers. Amazing album. One of their best. One of the best punk albums.

Unless you were a grunge fan outside of Nirvana in the 90s, this album probably should be bypassed. For me, nostalgia makes me give it 4 *.

Maybe if I was alive when this album was released, I might have more of a bearing WHY many consider this to be one of the Stones' best. There's nothing wrong with the album as you can feel their influences throughout the songs. But - and this comes back to my first sentence - nothing of importance really happens with any of the songs. There's no banger on the album. Tumbling Dice sounds like a radio single in the making but seriously, it just doesn't have the chops that some other singles on other albums have had. For their longevity, for what they have given rock 'n roll, and nostalgia, as I do believe those that say they were a class of their own, this album gets 3/5. Not my cup of tea.

Hmm. Elevator music. Why does this exist? "Baby, I Love Your Way" is probably the only song worth listening to once. That's it. "It is one of the best-selling live albums in the United States." What the fuck is wrong with you, USA?

Look, it's not terrible. But I didn't get as much out of it as I thought I would. Very competent music. Maybe good to have on in the background. However, if I don't get another Steely Dan album in the next 6 months, it'll be too soon.

Blowin’ in the Wind is the magic of this album. I know a lot of people don't like his voice - yep, grating and annoying. I don't care for most of the lyrics either.

Bass and drums are great. The bass is the best part, really. Vocals are shockingly horrible. Banshees and yodeling have sounded better. Guitar is very hit and miss.

Difficult one to review. Most songs sounded bland / boring, however, I did find the music enjoyable for some reason. Not my cup of tea, overall.

Feels like early 80s music. Definitely not a banger but actually enjoyable as background music. I think 3 stars is bang-on accurate.

Surprisingly not bad at all.

Again, this was better than I expected. No surprise coming in at 241 on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

I enjoyed this more than I probably should have. Novelty hard rock. Definitely worth a listen.

I've never been a Joy Division fan. While I enjoyed some of the songs, it's not my cup of tea.

This IS grunge.

Besides Good Vibrations, I found really not much of value here. If you were a Beach Boys fan, you would get much more from this album. I'll give it 3/5 for what it represents to Brian Wilson, the Beach Boys and their fans.

My favourite Offspring album, helped make punk mainstream, made The Offspring famous, and one that transcended genre's. Nostalgia alone is 5 stars but it deserves 5 stars anyway.

Complete wankery and Morrissey's voice is goddamned fucking awful. Complete, overrated shyte. The music itself isn't bad but ruined by a fucking wanker. 2/5.

Cyndi's best album. Memories of Wrestlemania and her appearances. Time after Time is the true banger on this album. This album definitely stands the test of time for it's place in history and launched her career massively. 5/5

I have never heard this album before but what a beautiful list of songs. Nick's voice is like quality melting butter. This guy never got the attention and dues he deserved.

Yet another incredible trip into Lead Zeppelin's world. No wonder this mammoth album sold so many copies. 5/5. Classic that very few artists can top. For it's time, it is unbeatable outside of what Sabbath were doing at the time.
