SOOOO many hits!
Some interesting songs but most turned into jam band drivel.
Terminally 80s 90s. Not a lot of standouts but nice listening.
New age drivel
All the energy and passion. What would it have been like to be in that concert.
Definitely talking heads. Good for five minutes but I don’t want a whole album of it.
That 808 drum early 90s German hip hop kinda sound? Not for me.
I like the honky tonk vibes but a lot of the songs are meh
Fancy. Kind of reminded me of daft punk?
Great black pride celebration album. Would listen again.
Decent but generic hipster music. Not bad listening.
Really poetic writing.
Rap caviar. Some good writing but a lot of it stated to sound the same after Al while.
The band is so good. And some really classic songs. The weight never gets old. And I shall be released. Chef’s kiss.
Very good! Not a lot of songs but solid ones.
Soft rock from the 80s. Not bad for background music.
Solid classic rock. Some familiar, a lot new to me.
Great classic metal album!
One of the better early 90s hip-hop albums I’ve heard. More sophisticated than some and had a lot of social justice themes.
EW&F have so much energy and great horns. Fun album
Snoop really did change the game. Such a good album
So groovy!
Maybe as good as Paranoid. Great balance of loud rock and quiet, more psychedelic songs like Changes.
Not bad. But kind of sounds like off brand oasis. Not a lot of notable songs.
That soft hipster sound combined with a country twang and trap.
A lot like Don McLean but less catchy. A happy hippy album though.
Crazy good songs on this album. Two or threes others were insufferably long but for the most part, amazing album.
Better than most 80s country. I like the song fearless heart.
This kind of music has very limited applications. I can’t understand how many anyone can listen to a whole album of it. Every song sounds the same.
Solid album. Pretty 80s though. The Smiths have a much softer sound than I imagined.
Great country album. Good lyrics.
A great album all the way around
Good, punkish but not in an annoying way.
How come so much Stevie Wonder sounds like Christmas Pop?
Fun and funny. Punk that actually requires some talent.
Enjoyable. Had his hits and some societal commentary.
I’m glad to get to know Thin Lizzy better but why is this on this list? It’s a very mediocre live album.
Guess I never listened to a lot of Spirit. Sounds like a cheap version of three dog night or Emerson lake Palmer or something like that.
Nice range of sounds.
Some songs really long and repetitious. But good sound.
I guess what makes this album so good is how the songs seemly bleed into one another. I do wish there were fewer shrill sounds in this album. Makes it hard to listen to.
This is a spoken word album with ambient sounds in the background. I think it was trying to tell a story, but I couldn’t really follow it. The voice drone on and on like the sounds in the background. I’d like to give it another try while reading the words. Three stars for at least sounding creative.
The Beatles really exemplify the fact that just because you’re the first to do something doesn’t make you the best.
Fantastic album! Every song is a banger and the arrangements are so well done.
This was too long to finish in one day but it was interesting and good in the right mood. Lots of it felt like it was from a movie score.
I like the piano and orchestration. Some cool sounding songs. Glad to know more Tori Amos.
There’s some bops (ha) on this one. Good for punk.
This was pretty good. I expected more energy though.
Ugh. White guy blues. I stopped half way though. Apparently it wasn’t too late.
This really shows off the range that the beastie boys have. Very good album.
Amazing writing and unique voice.
Pretty good for an instrumental album. But it’s still an instrumental album.
I liked this a lot more than I thought! Very accessible even not knowing the language.
I don’t understand why this is on a list of greatest albums. This album is notable because of how mediocre it is. It’s only interesting because it’s before Black Sabbath found their sound later that year with the paranoid album. Why is this on this list?
Every song was okay for the first quarter then they just started shredding on the guitars for WAYYY too long. At least the album was short.
Smooth and jazzy, cool and classic. This was a great thing to listen to on a chill morning.
Classic beach boys. This was on my best albums list too.
Fun album. Saturated with funk.
Mariah Carey doesn’t do much for me because it is sappy and not very memorable, but I suppose this album had some hints of late 90s nostalgia.
Brit rock with a little bit of variety. Hadn’t ever heard of this band before.
Love this album. Smooth dark and sexy.
Love this album. Timeless sounding rock.
Not going to win any prizes in lyricism but it’s a fun album with a variety of sounds.
Interesting avant-garde pop. Only four songs but they’re each 20 minutes long. I liked discovering this guy and related artists like U-she.
I really like this album! Very complex and creative and lots of music that I didn’t know I know.
I did not expect to like this album because sometime Hendrix is too much guitar squiggle but it was really good!
Like most people I didn’t know this past the exorcist and pure moods. It was really an interesting listen. Lots of variety and dynamic energy.
A lot of people say Clapton is a good guitarist and that may be technically true. But all his music sounds like three drunk alley cats in a fight. The last two songs were okay.
A little more tame than Beck’s earlier stuff. Some catchy songs though.
I didn’t understand the words but it’s got lots of songs with great sounds.
I like the theatricality of Björk
It’s a good album. I grew up on it.
New Wave slop.
Can’t believe I’ve never listened to this whole album. Not AS good as his other but still it’s Paul Simon.
I don’t know why Elliot Smith is so hard to get into.
It’s hard to listen to a whole album of 80s hip hop but there’s lots of good songs including the collaboration with Aerosmith.
Great breakout album. Really set the pace for the Gorillaz’ original sounds.
Starts off strong and has lots of good songs.
So many good songs to sing a long to! A bit heavy on the saxophone though.
Through all the nostalgia it’s easy to forget that Green Day makes such garbage music until you have to listen to an entire album.
I didn’t realize the doors did this much bluesy sound. But the other parts vibe pretty good. I’m always floored by what a bad lyricist he was.
There were a couple of good songs on this album but most of it was just noisy punk.
What a crazy and dark album! I really liked it. It reminded me of a reimagined old country album.
80s but in a good way.
How can so many radio hits make up such a good concept album??
I never could find anything about this album. Only a Spotify playlist. I’m not sure how to rank an album that isn’t an album.
Pretty good for Brit punk. Some songs listenable. London calling is better.
Never heard of him. Kinda hippie and kinda jazzy? Kinda unremarkable.
This is a really sappy album. Some songs are fine (but bland) and some are downright annoying. I wish such a cool band name had been used on a better band.
I had never heard of the bees, but this is a very good album. Lots of variety.
The “intro” song was the best of the album. The music here isn’t bad but it’s just not very exciting rap.
This is a beautiful and haunting farewell album. Cohenbis such a goat.
Part punk, ska, metal. Some social commentary. An interesting one time listen.
Decent singer songwriter stuff but didn’t really keep my attention on this one listen.
Great album. Beautiful and creative.
Very dynamic. Enjoy the brass. Vocals are kinda busy.
Very creative. Scottish but with a lot of eastern influence.
It’s cool. It’s funny. It’s sweet. It’s got variety. And it rocks.
Great songs and you can see a bridge between rock n roll and metal.
Did not expect to like this one! Fun lyrics, hard rock and beautiful instrumentals. One song was a really bad recording of a live song but other than that, solid album.
Very chill album. Decent variety.
Lots of good songs and harmonies.
I thought this two disk album was super long but they had the same 12 songs re-recorded about 5 different ways. I don’t know that the songs were strong enough to listen to that many times.
I just don’t think there’s a better pairing than Fitz and Gershwin.
Enjoyed this mostly instrumental sound album. Creative and chill. Good for a morning commute.
I usually like Fleetwood Mac. I just couldn’t get into this album. Kinda bland.
Not for me all the time but love the harmonies and there’s some solid songs.
Good album full of metal and rock n roll. There was even a musical number from west side story.
45 min album with 4 songs! Wouldn’t listen to this kind of music all the time but enjoyed the soul.
I liked their later stuff more but I’m sure this was a completely new sounds in 87.
The least annoying Beatles album I’ve heard.
And hello goodbye Tim Buckley seemed like he was pretending to be a folk singer. In this album, it seems like he is pretending to be a blue singer. Many of the songs just turn into him hollering or jabbering. The Hong Kong song was okay.
I’m glad there are people who enjoy listening to acid jazz. But I’m not really one of them. After the first few minutes of each song I kinda started to get irritated.
First off, I couldn’t find this album anywhere. Best I could find were playlists people had assembled. So I don’t know how much like the original album it is. Second, I’ve listened to a fair amount of Beefheart but not this one. This one seemed like it was intentionally obnoxious.
I didn’t recognize most of these songs, but it was undeniably ABBA.
This album got better and better as it went along. Most of the songs moved into the next seamlessly.
This would have been a good album if it had been instrumental and cut the sax. As it was the saxophone was irritating and the vocals didn’t add much.
Nina Simone has all the passion. No one else has passion because she has it all. Every song is great on this album. My one complaint is that some of the songs fade out so abruptly it’s jolting.
This is better than the other sonic youth album I heard. This one is way less shrill and screechy.
I think blur is some high quality Brit rock. While not all the songs on this album are memorable it’s a smooth list almost the whole way through.
I only know The Bee Gees as disco kings so this album of songs that sound like Beatles b-sides was a surprise. I enjoyed the strings and the vocal harmonies.
Pleasant listening. Very calming.
Albums like this seem to be an evolutionary step of hip hop. I like the scripted tracks sprinkled in.
A huge variety of instruments here (although an excessive amount of tenor sax). I bet this would have been a heck of a live concert back in the day— lots of energy.
Must be one of the top break up albums of all time. All the soul. Also love the cover of Lovesong.
This album gets better as it goes on. There some good instrumentals. Still, a little early 90s hip hop goes a long way.
Muddy Waters is classic. Even though it was a live album it was fun to listen to.
Feels like a cross between new wave and grunge. A lot of sameness though.
Sappy and 90s but good listening.
Kind of socially conscious but in kind of stilted ways? And a lot of it is lacking that strong beach boys harmony. Still, it’s good chill listening.
The most notable quality of this album is its length— nearly 2 hours. Past that, this album is benignly forgettable.
A fantastic and pure metal album.
Although Wayne Coyne’s vocals are whiny there is still some great variety and dynamics in this album.
This album in a yo-yo. Some songs are fire and others garbage. It averages out to a passing grade though.
I don’t really have the musical knowledge to enjoy this kind of music as an active listener but I did like having it on in the background.
Variety, energy, soul— this album has it all. Would def listen again.
Really cool album with some Cash staples. I love hearing the interactions between Cash and the inmates.
This list gave me two dire straits albums in 5 days with is a bit much. This one though is much better. A mysterious mellow sound that seems like it’s waiting to bust out of the box.
I like the southern rock vibes. Very Eagles.
Really cool r&b. Lots of energy and variety of instruments (like all the instruments). Good listen.
Classic Beck. Lots of great energetic songs punctuated by a slow song I’d never heard but really enjoyed.
I’m surprised I never heard this before. It’s very good. There’s great variety in sound and style. That album is crazy long. 2.5 hours is too long.
Usually, I’m not into extreme metal but this one is very approachable. The songs don’t all sound the same which is a relief. The album is clearly a great influence on all metal that came after.
A very solid album with super hits on it.
So. Many. Horns. It’s like a high school marching band added on a Bowie impressionist vocalist. None of this is to say it’s bad. It’s very good. Lots of energy. One song (Thankfully Living in Yorkshire…) sounds like it’s straight out of a Beck album.
Who put this garbage album on this list?
So much to listen to! Psychedelic to the max. There may be more spoken words than music.
Fun, classic rock and roll.
It’s possible that this concert had some historical or cultural importance. Wish I could’ve been there. MC5 has really fun music. But it is hard to get a good recording of a live performance. I’m giving this two stars because some of it managed to sound like music.
Dylan is Dylan. Long songs with no bridge. Intricate lyrics through the nasally talk-singing voice. He’s good but there’s a lot of sameness.
Listening to The Beatles is developmentally appropriate for highschoolers who think listening to “old music“ will make them more interesting. That being said revolver is one of the more palatable albums by The Beatles.
Very chill. Made for a good morning commute listen.
This must be the ideal sad country album.
I bet this music would be great live and in-person. On the album though all the songs sound basically the same.
The live recording isn’t the best and there’s too much screeching on the guitar for my taste. But boy it’s hard to beat the voice of Janis. The R. Crumb cover art is fun to look at also.
I bet this was a pretty fantastic concert to be at. So much of the music is truly beautiful. I loved the organ opening and the Nutcracker closing. The music was very diverse. I only wish had been a studio recording.
Hauntingly beautiful. Every song is storytelling perfection. Even a Spanish song.
Filled with 2000s hipster anthems this album is both a fun and easy listen. Also, lots of nostalgia for me.
Soft. Pleasant. New to me. Could use an up beat song in there somewhere.
More creative than I was expecting. A good amount of social justice and fun. Also, he had a track that was a metal song.
Man the Irish sure do know how to make music woeful.
I liked axis a little better. This is more typical Jimi Hendrix psychedelic wiggly squiggly guitar. But when you’re in the mood this hits the spot.
Very classic late 60s hippy music. Some good songs like medicated goo.
Some of the most danceable hot of all time. The only reason this doesn’t get 5 stars is because of that terrible floating turd “the girl is mine.” Whose idea was that?
Sometimes talking heads can wear obnoxious after a while but this album was less intense.
Love the blending of styles and variety of sounds. Long album though.
Decent 80s vibe. I liked the anti fascist themes and lyrics.
Fun funky disco. Some recognizable hits and plenty of variety.
This is okay as far as punk goes. At least a person can pick out a melody. Still, pretty hard to listen to.
There’s nothing wrong with Sonic youth or this album. It’s just kind of bland.
Pretty good 90s rock. Not a lot of variety though.
Near perfect album. Definitely Floyd’s best. Dynamic music with a through storyline.
Marvin is a real vibe and a good one at that. This album may be a little heavy on the spoken word songs though.
Lots of soft rock here. Soft rock and that 80s sax. At least it has Karma Chameleon.
This music is listenable but there’s not a lot of stand outs. I like the through-theme of getting out of the burbs, I guess. The mixing really dampened the vocals so it was hard to understand most of the lyrics.
So very very early 90s. I do think the album got better as it went along.
Every Sonic youth song starts off sounding promising and halfway through turns obnoxious.
Solid album with some notable hits.
Not my favorite glam rock but still not bad. 2 or 3 really good songs.
Paul Simon is already one of the greatest singer songwriters. Part of what makes this so good is his collaborations particularly with the Ladysmith Black Mambazo.
The master of 60s pop. Dusty’s sound is so iconic. And fun to boot.
Sometimes her whisper-singing gets a little tiresome but her music seemed to reinvigorate vocal jazz standards in the culturally barren wastland that was the 2000s.
This album was really fun and had a lot of energy. It felt like the B-52’s mixed with the cranberries.
Some of the songs on this album (mostly the instrument tracks) were very good. They were dynamic and melodious. But then almost half the tracks were absolutely terrible. Unlistenable.
Nice gentle listening.
I really enjoy this music. I just can’t help but feel it would be better if it was sung by someone with a fuller, more rich voice.
Good sound. Good variety. Need to listen again with the lyrics in front of me.
Iron Maiden knows how to do metal. This album is just packed with great sound and quality music.
The actual music of the doors is not bad for white-guy-blues. There’s LOTS of good piano. The problem with the doors is Van Morrison. He sounds like some guy they picked up off the street who is just making it up as he goes and he’s just drunk enough to think he’s nailing it. Like how he’ll repeat the same line a few times like he thinks it’s clever.
In a very 60s way it combines silly merriment with an eerie dark vibe
I listened to these chill beats on a Saturday morning while drinking coffee and doing my taxes. It was perfect.
Bowie’s best.
This is my favorite Dead album I’ve heard so far. I like its calm simplicity and pleasant melodies.
I really enjoyed the singer songwriter-ness of this very pleasant album. Except for the last two songs. They took me out of it a lot.
The sound of this album is great. Instrumentation and vocals are on point. The subject matter though, especially the first song, remind me of the social toxicity of the 2000s.
Very cool and smooth sounds with dark and gritty subject matter. Also liked the instrumental tracks.
Not any of his more fun stuff but a lot of energetic instrumentals.
Listening to this album took me back to riding the 6th grade school bus.
I wish I’d discovered Wilco in high school. I think I would have gotten into this album. Four stars because I enjoyed it and would listen again.
Very 80s sound. Started strong but got tiresome.
Great guitar, strong vocals, big energy. And also a breath of fresh air to have something a little different on this list ha is absolutely smothered with western music.
Very good rock. It feels ahead of its time.
I do like the harmonies.
Fun album with lots of variety and quality instrumentals.
While this album is pleasant to listen to eventually all the songs sounded the same subdued way.
Great storytelling, quality music, legendary performer.
some of these tracks are just irritating noises but the rest of them are really good songs interrupted by irritating noises
Most of these tracks feel straight out of the golden age of country music. Surprising for an album that came out as late as 1988.
Arguably the best album of the 2000s. Energy, variety, guest stars. It’s got it all. My only complaint is that it’s SOOOOO long.
Some essential 90s anthems on this album. Great energy. Could have more variety in the sound.
I like the musical theater-iness of this album.
While other experimental rock bands rely on dissonant, irritating sounds, this album interesting sounds and melodies that are both dark and goofy. I can see how this influenced later acts like Primus. Also shout out to these Shreveport boys.
Energetic protest album way ahead of its time.
Pretty good for punk.
Some great songs like Express Yourself. Still, the album is about 45 minutes too long.
Pleasant to listen to. Not overly produced.
Truly one of the best 90s albums. Beautiful guitar riffs, variety in sounds, memorable lyrics. Incredible album. Unless I can’t be objective because I listened to it on repeat in the 9th grade.
A dark and energetic album.
Iconic and thoroughly fun this album is packed with hits.
Calm and folksy with good harmonies.
Pleasant to listen to but not a lot of stand outs.
I generally like David Crosby this one wasn’t super memorable though.
An album with some killer songs (and one or two that are pretty mediocre). There were also a bunch of random live recordings at the end.
While still not as good as Ok Computer this album is better than I remembered.
He’s definitely in the top three best singer songwriters. This album has some of his most iconic songs and he was just getting warmed up in ‘67.
Yes’ music is sometimes pretty and at times they have a good variety of instruments. However their songs are too long and have too many squiggly quotas.
Some songs are well known classics and some are better than others. Enjoy the variety and patented Police harmonies.
Very generic synth pop. Seems like this sound would have been pretty tired and played out by 1990.
I didn’t know movie sound tracks could make it on this list! This was very fun with a good mix of instrumental tracks and vocal tracks.
I usually like this vaguely folksy singer songwriter stuff. The music was pleasant but his lyrics are abysmal.
Good energy. But the songs were pretty long and jammy.
There is so much variety in this album— some I liked, some. It so much. Still it was interesting and entertaining and, I imagine, pretty groundbreaking for the 70s.
I enjoyed listening to this. Even average country music in the 70s was pretty dang good.
If you told me this is the greatest album of all time, I wouldn’t argue.
It was pretty enjoyable for the first 4 or 5 tracks but then it started getting pretty tiresome.
I can imagine a time and a place for punk, but in general it’s not very pleasant to listen to.
This is definitely vibing music. I enjoyed almost all of it. One of the last tracks got pretty repetitive though.
Pleasant dad rock.
It’s fun and lively! Once or twice it dips into a little of that early 90s r&b.
If anyone is ever feeling too wistful and nostalgic about the 90s, just remind them how much more racist and homophobic it was back then. If that doesn’t snap them out of it, just let them listen to this album. That’ll do the trick.
It’s that 2010s alterna-rock that sometimes nods to the 80s. I was gifted this vinyl years back and it’s always a good listen.
Top shelf music from the modern country era.
I thought this nearly hour long album was going to drag but it was over in no time. High energy! Mostly instrumental, to my surprise.
Pretty lowkey, nondescript 90s music. Every song sounded the same.
