Leftfield
2/5
Not bad electronic dance type music. I really liked "Inspection (Check One)" it has a really nice beat. I had never heard of them before today. Overall not real memorable but I wouldn't be opposed to listening to it at work or as background music for other activities.

Michael Jackson
5/5
Classic album, maybe one of the best ever in my opinion. Every song on this album is fantastic. I remember when the video for Thriller came out, it blew everyone away. My older sister went to see him in concert and she said it was an amazing show.

Kanye West

I have never heard this before. It's not bad, unfortunately Kanye is too terrible of a person for me to be able to enjoy it.

Not bad but not great early 90's hip hop. I have not heard the whole thing before. It's alright.

Nirvana
5/5
I remember watching this on TV in the 90's when I was in high school. It was a big deal and everybody was talking about it back then. I still enjoy hearing it and remembering when I first heard it. This is one that I love enough to actually own.

Rock opera. Theatrical.
Great if you are in a saucy mood.
Aerosmith

Some of the less popular songs are pretty good, I've never heard them before. Early tracks remind me a bit of Blind Melon.
Pink Floyd
5/5
It's a really good album but I've heard it a million times.
The Temptations
4/5
I haven't heard a lot of these songs before. They are pretty good, I'd listen to them if I was in the right mood.

Great album to listen to when you are depressed.
Radiohead
3/5
Not my favorite Radiohead album. Not bad, very ambient. I like OK Computer and Moon Shaped Pool more.
Missy Elliott
3/5
Great album that I have never heard before. Obviously I have heard a few songs from it but never the whole thing.
Not necessarily my thing but I would probably listen to it again.
John Prine
3/5
Kind of country-ish. The lyrics are really good. Probably wouldn't buy it but would listen to it on spotify.
Ramones
2/5
It's good for what it is. All the songs are similar and I think not very interesting. This is an album I would listen to every 10 years or so and that would be enough.
Metallica
5/5
I used to have this album. It still rocks, I like it a lot even though I have heard it so many times. Brings me back to when I tried to learn to play guitar.
Black Sabbath
3/5
Very good album. I'm not sure if I have ever actually heard the whole thing before. I would listen again. Very revolutionary for the time period.
The Residents
1/5
Is this "They Might Be Giants" from the 70's?
It's just experimental stuff, sounds like something I would have made with my high school friends.
I would never listen to this again. Cannot believe this album is part if the 1001, it's really sad that this took up a space leaving something else out.
Oasis
2/5
Oasis would have been a good band if it wasn't for the gallagher brothers being such garbage individuals.
The music is okay, the vocals are whiney and the guitar/beats are typical.
Radiohead
5/5
I think this album is brilliant. I love listening to the whole thing. It's ear candy 100%.
Can't wait to listen to this again.

Excellent album, I will have to get it on vinyl. Easy to listen to, can definitely see myself chilling out and putting this one on.
Crosby, Stills & Nash

Muddy Waters
2/5
Not really my type of music. I'm sure that it is great for the genre just not for me.
CHIC
5/5
Excellent album. "I want your love" is an absolutely fantastic song. Very funky but also sort of cerebral. I would definitely listen to this again and will probably own it eventually.
Led Zeppelin
4/5
Some of the lesser known songs are pretty good like Tangerine and That's the Way. I've heard the popular songs tons of times.
Nick Drake
5/5
Really good album. I had recently heard it because it was recommended by my girlfriend. This is one that I will definitely be adding to my collection.
Nice light jazz I guess, hard to describe it.

3/5
I'm pretty sure that I have never heard these songs before. Pretty good, I was actually expecting it to be bad. It's very different from other Beach Boys albums that I have heard.
Public Enemy

3/5
Pretty good stuff that I have not heard. Familiar with their later work, this is similar but different. I probably wouldn't buy this album but I would listen to it again for ambient music.

Very funky. I have never heard the whole album, it's very good. I will definitely listen to this again. I already have one of their other records.
Talking Heads
4/5
I really like this album and already own it. I have heard it many times and I'm sure I will hear it many more.
Sebadoh
2/5
It reminds me of the alternative music that the artsy kids would listen to in the early 90's. It's not bad but probably not for me. It's kind of experimental.
LTJ Bukem
4/5
Kind of break beat electronica. Not bad, nice ambient music. I would listen to this again. Later in the album is break beat drum and bass.
John Lennon
2/5
Pretty mediocre overall. Imagine is a good song but I have heard it tons of times. The other songs are not great, just forgettable space filler. I won't listen to this again.

Not bad, there is always time for a little Bob Marley. I am sure I will hear this again.

4/5
Great album that I have heard a million times. Worth listening to every now and again.
Pixies
4/5
First album I listened to after my dog Countess passed away. She was the best dog ever! I will miss her more than I have ever missed anything.
She passed on March 16, 2024.

4/5
Pretty good world music. I would listen to this again. Very chilled out.
Raekwon
4/5
Great hip hop from my youth. I really like this album.
Blue Cheer
3/5
Bluesy rock, not bad. I have never heard of them and I'm pretty sure that I have not ever heard their most popular song on the album "Summertime Blues". Some creative riffs. This is an album I would have really liked when I was 18.
Beatles
4/5
It's obviously pretty good and super well known. First time I have actually listened to the whole album. Not bad, I'm sure I will listen to it again.

4/5
Really good country/folk album. I will definitely be listening to this again, it's really fantastic. Never heard it before until now.

2/5
Not bad but not great early 90's hip hop. I have not heard the whole thing before. It's alright.

A really great album that I have heard before. I'm sure I will listen to it again, it's a classic.

I remember this band from back in the mid 90's. They were alright then and I feel about the same now. I'm not sure I have listened to this since the 90's and that is probably fine.
Jethro Tull
3/5
Pretty good classic British rock. I like it but I don't think I would go out of my way to listen to it. If I had been born in that era I would probably be a fan.
The xx
4/5
I really enjoyed this album, not sure if I have heard of them or if I have heard any of these songs. Good stuff, kind of ambient chilled out. I will definitely listen to this again.
Depeche Mode
3/5
Pretty good Depeche Mode album that I have never heard before. It's pretty chilled out in some places but also mechanical upbeat in others, very nice.
Earth, Wind & Fire
4/5
I really like Earth, Wind & Fire. I own one of their hits albums. I feel like this is an essential part of my musical listening repertoire.
The Only Ones
2/5
Kind of rough rock/punkish music that I have never heard before. It's alright but probably not really my thing, none of the songs really stood out.
Wilco
3/5
Pretty good Indie type album. I had never heard it before. It's pretty good and probably something that I would listen to again when I'm in a chill mood.
The Velvet Underground
4/5
I had never heard this album before. I like some of their other stuff. This is pretty good, great chilled out but up a notch sort of vibe. I will definitely listen to this again, maybe buy it on vinyl.
Muddy Waters
3/5
This seems like a really good blues album. Although I'm not very knowledgeable in blues music, this one just has a nice vibe to it that I like. The live recording is nice, I like hearing the crowds reactions to his music back in the day.
The Dave Brubeck Quartet
4/5
Very nice lightish jazz. It's pretty good and I think that I would possibly buy a copy. I have heard "Take Five" before but the other songs are pretty good too.
Jane's Addiction
2/5
I was never a huge Jane's Addiction fan. This album is alright, not my favorite, not terrible. I'm not sure that I would seek it out again but I don't regret listening to it. It does remind me of sitting around with my school friends in the early 90's.
Bob Dylan
4/5
I'm not a huge Bob Dylan fan and when I saw this was the album of the day I thought I would hate it. Having said that, I actually enjoyed it quite a bit and will probably listen to it again. It has a nice chill blues vibe that I really like. His voice is still a little weird but it seems to work for me. I will have to give his other music another chance.
Leftfield
2/5
Not bad electronic dance type music. I really liked "Inspection (Check One)" it has a really nice beat. I had never heard of them before today. Overall not real memorable but I wouldn't be opposed to listening to it at work or as background music for other activities.
Stevie Wonder
5/5
I have never heard this album before, obviously I've heard the hits. This album is insanely good, very funky beats and of course excellent vocals. This is an album that I will most likely buy and listen to many times, I'm disappointed that it took me so long to give the album a chance.

The Allman Brothers Band
2/5
It's not a bad album. Maybe I have listened to them too much but I didn't really find it very memorable or hear any songs that really stood out to me.
Jimi Hendrix
4/5
I had this album on CD when I was in high school, I'm not sure what happened to it but I listened to it a ton back then. It's a great album and I still really like the less popular songs like "Stone Free" and "51st Anniversary" I think the latter song has a nice groovy vibe to it. The whole album is really good though. I'm sure I will be listening to this one many more times.
Frank Sinatra
3/5
Not bad, for some reason listening to Frank doesn't get old for me. It's just really safe music that is easy to listen to and doesn't really take any risks.
Digital Underground
3/5
I have only heard The Humpty Dance from this album, none of the other songs. It's not bad I really like some of the other songs on the album. A good example of hip hop from the late 80's early 90's. I remember they were in the movie Nothing But Trouble, it was pretty funny despite being not the best movie.
My Bloody Valentine
2/5
To me this is pretty mediocre. I feel like their other earlier albums were much better. Maybe this is a more mature version of the band. I probably won't listen to this album again.
Public Enemy
3/5
Not bad at all. Pretty ground breaking back in the day. I will definitely listen to this again or at least listen to the hits on the album.
Willie Nelson
4/5
Excellent album from Willie. The whole thing is very chill and easy going. I'm probably going to buy a copy of this for repeat listen again and again.
Beck

Pretty good Beck album. Some great hit songs and some other less popular but still great songs. His style is very interesting and for some reason that I can't articulate, I like it. I'm sure I will listen to this one again.
The Notorious B.I.G.
4/5
Great album. I have never heard the whole thing before but it's pretty good and worth a listen every once and a while. Great example of 90's rap.

4/5
I have never heard of them. After listening to the album I added it to my favorites. Very creative while still being accessible to me. Definitely going to be listening to this one again.
Tangerine Dream
3/5
Pretty chilled out ambient music. It's pretty good and I will definitly listen to this again. Going to be great as background music for other activities.
Blur
2/5
It's al alright album. I remember it back when it came out and I still feel about the same. It's not bad but I wouldn't miss it if I didn't hear it again.

The Mamas & The Papas
2/5
Pretty good album with a few iconic songs on it. I had never heard "Spanish Harlem" before and it's pretty good. I'm sure I will listen to this again at some point but it isn't something that I would go out of my way to hear.
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
2/5
This album has a couple of hit songs that I have heard but not the other songs. It's not bad and I imagine if I had been 18 in 1976 I probably would have listened to this a lot. It's pretty good American rock and roll.
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
3/5
Really good alternative type rock (it's kind of hard to describe). I enjoyed the album and had only heard one song from it before. The whole thing is pretty good and I will definitely listen to it again.
Brian Wilson
3/5
Not bad but sounds very much like the Beach Boys. A little weird to think that this came out in 2004. I probably won't listen to this again but I don't regret hearing it.
Hüsker Dü
3/5
I have never heard any of this music before. It's not bad especially considering that it came out in 1987 when rock bands tended to be more about love ballads. I would probably listen to this again. Maybe this is music transitioning to more gungy alternative rock?
Snoop Dogg
5/5
One of the greatest hip hop albums of all time and one of the greatest albums from the 90's in my opinion. Very popular in my youth and very influential. I remember when it released (I was 16) and people were playing it all over high school, it was extremely popular. Pretty much every song on the album is perfect. I've heard it a million times and I hope to hear it a million more.
Carole King
5/5
Classic album that I already own, pretty much every song is excellent. Carole is an iconic American songwriter in my opinion. It's recorded well and sounds great. I hope to listen to it many more times.

Great album, lots of hit songs. I have never actually heard the whole thing, there are a lot of good songs that aren't hits. It's a great album that I will listen to again.
The Teardrop Explodes
2/5
Never heard this before. Kind of a transition from 70's to 80's music which is interesting. It's alright, a few songs are good. I'm not sure that I would need to listen to this again.
Bruce Springsteen
2/5
Never heard this album before now. It's alright, I prefer his earlier work the classic type stuff. It's about what you would expect for 2002 Bruce Springsteen.
Rush
5/5
A classic album that I have heard a bunch of times. I still like it after so many years. The beginning of Tom Sawyer is still so mind blowing even after so many listens.
Nirvana
5/5
I remember watching this on TV in the 90's when I was in high school. It was a big deal and everybody was talking about it back then. I still enjoy hearing it and remembering when I first heard it. This is one that I love enough to actually own.
Simon & Garfunkel
4/5
A great album. I have heard the hits from this one a ton of times and still enjoy them. The harmony between the two is excellent.
Manu Chao
2/5
Not bad, but not really my kind of thing. I'm not sorry that I listened to it but don't think that I would need to listen to it again. Some of the songs were not bad though.
Daft Punk
3/5
Great album, some really popular songs. Probably not my favorite album of theirs though. I think that "Random Access Memories" is better. Having said that, I'm sure that I will listen to this one a bunch more.
Dion
2/5
No bad, kind of chill music. Nothing real memorable to me but it would be nice background music. I like his earlier work a lot more and I'm not so familiar with this later stuff but I will have to give it a chance.

Classic rock, super creative name. Not bad, I imagine if I had been a teenager in their days I might like it a lot more. The hit songs are recognizable and the others are pretty good too. Easy to listen to.
Nick Drake
3/5
Very chill music that is a bit hard for me to describe. I own one of his other albums and like it a lot. This one is great too with a super chilled out vibe. I'm pretty sure that I will end up buying this one too, can definitely see myself spinning this at home.
Fred Neil
3/5
Pretty chill music. Reminds me of a movie soundtrack. I don't think I have heard it before except for "Everybody's Talkin'", I will listen to this one again for sure.
LCD Soundsystem
3/5
Really good, kind of experimental music. I have heard this album before, it's interesting. I'm not sure that I could listen to this one in a group setting if that makes any sense. It's something I would listen to on my own and sort of contemplate it.
Heaven 17
3/5
Way better than I thought it would be. When the first notes of (We Don't Need This) Fascist Groove Thing played I thought it was going to suck and be too whimsical but it's not, it's really nice maybe synth pop music.
Dire Straits
4/5
I really like Dire Straits, and I think this album is great. I'm a big fan of the guitar work, the vocals and the other unusual instruments they use. It's kind of unique in that respect. Classic rock but elevated. 4/5 for me.
Cyndi Lauper
3/5
Great 80's album. Cyndi reminds me of watching Goonies as a kid. I like a lot of the songs on this album, even the ones that aren't so popular. It reminds me of good times.
Ian Dury
3/5
Never heard of him before today. It's kind of funny British rock music with a catchy beat. Not bad at all and I'm really glad that I listened to it. Not something that I would listen to all the time but would be good under the right circumstances. It's kind of in the same vein as Thundercat's Drunk album.
Manic Street Preachers
3/5
It's an interesting album. Seems very innovative 90's style. I'm not a huge fan of it but I'm sure I would listen again under the right circumstances. 3/5 for innovation.
Love
4/5
I already have this album in my favorites. It's a really great listen, some variety, lots of instruments. Pretty chilled out too. I will be listening to this one many more times.
Johnny Cash
4/5
Excellent album, amazing to think that he recorded it live. I will definitely listen to this one again, it's a classic.
Buddy Holly & The Crickets
2/5
A quick album at only 26 minutes it really packs some great hit songs though. This really shows how short songs used to be in the past.
It's not a bad album but just not the kind of music that I like to listen to. I hear it enough in pop culture.
The Flaming Lips
5/5
A really great album. I like all the songs and have listened to this many times. "In the Morning of the Magicians" is one of my favorite songs. It's super chill and has a really nice groove to it. I'm sure that I will listen to this many more times.
Röyksopp
4/5
I have never heard this before and I think it's really good. The first couple of songs are very catchy so it brings you in before some more experimental type songs. This is something that I will be listening to again for sure, I'm sorry I didn't get to hear it when it came out.
Sonic Youth
2/5
The first song "Teen Age Riot" is a really great song that I love. Unfortunately the rest of the album is sort of not my jam. It would have been great to hear when I was in high school but the experimental noise type stuff just isn't for me anymore. I do enjoy some of their other work though.
Judas Priest
3/5
I have never actually listened to this album, it's really good. Not just the hit songs but most of the songs really rock. Excellent guitar and vocals. Great beats, I think the lyrics are good but I wasn't paying super close attention. Definitely going to listen to this one again.
The Go-Go's
3/5
Super fun album. I've heard the hits before but never the whole album. Great vibe and brings back memories of my sisters when I was a little kid.
The Zutons
3/5
Really good, easy to listen to chilled out vibe. Never heard of them before today. It's really good and I've added it to my favorites to listen to again.
Deep Purple
3/5
This album really rocks. I don't think I have ever heard it before. Great classic rock, very groovy.
Sly & The Family Stone
3/5
Very nice funky music. Some of the songs are very different, not in a bad way. Interesting long instrumental in the middle of the album. I'm sure I will listen to this again sometime.
ZZ Top
1/5
Not really the kind of music that I like. This bluesy rock is not bad and I know they are pretty popular but I just don't like their style, lyrics, or music. Seems pretty basic and uninspired to me. Would be great to listen to in a small dive bar though.
Keith Jarrett
3/5
Great piano music that I have never heard of. Really a remarkable live performance from someone who is incredibly talented. I've added it to my favorites and intend to listen to it again.
Fela Kuti
3/5
Super groovy world music. It's hard for me to describe but I like it. Great beats and vocals although I don't understand the lyrics. Easy to listen to, it's not too overstimulating.
2/5
Very nice, chilled out music that I like. It's kind of a crowded field for this type of music for me. I feel like there are other albums out there that I like more in this style. Not bad though and I would happily listen to it if someone was playing it.
Ravi Shankar
2/5
Pretty trippy, probably good to listen to high. Nice that he explains what is going on even though it is probably too complicated for me and I don't really understand it. Nice music and the guy can really play, just not sure it is for me.
Elliott Smith
3/5
Great chilled out music with excellent flow. Never heard of him or this album but it is pretty good. I'm sure that I will be listening to this one again as it has a really nice vibe to it.
Fleetwood Mac
2/5
Not bad but definitely not my favorite of their albums. It was nice to hear the songs that I am not familiar with though even if they don't have the same impact as their earlier albums. I'm sure I will listen to the hit songs on this album but probably wouldn't listen to the whole thing again.
Michael Jackson
5/5
Classic album, maybe one of the best ever in my opinion. Every song on this album is fantastic. I remember when the video for Thriller came out, it blew everyone away. My older sister went to see him in concert and she said it was an amazing show.
The United States Of America
2/5
Sometimes is sounds like older Bond movie music, sometimes it's kind of like the Beatles. Really different from anything I have heard before. Not sure I need to hear it again but it was worth listening to.
The Mothers Of Invention
2/5
I have never heard this before, it's pretty crazy. The lyrics are pretty good, sometimes funny. It's interesting to hear the word "corny" used in several songs. I can appreciate what they are doing although I can't see myself listening to this often. If I had been a teenager when this came out I would have loved it.
Radiohead
3/5
Great album that I remember from high school or early college days. I really enjoy it, there are some great hits as well as other songs that missed the radio back in the day. I'm sure that I will listen to this again although it isn't my favorite of their albums.
Johnny Cash
4/5
Really good. I have never heard the whole thing before but I remember when he redid 'Hurt' it was a big deal and everyone loved it. Trent even said that it was Johnny's song now. I'm sure I will listen to parts of this album again, it's still great after so long.
Alice Cooper
3/5
Pretty good album. I've never heard it before and it's worth a listen. There is some variety to the songs, some theatrical rock, some more chilled out rock. Would have loved to see him perform this live, was probably an amazing show.
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
2/5
Excellent singing and lyrics are great. I have heard some of these songs before but never the whole thing. I think it's really good, but just not a style that I am into. Probably won't listen to this one again despite it being well written and performed.
John Coltrane
1/5
This is a bit much for my tastes. I'm sure it's ground breaking etc... but I just don't care for it. Caused me to turn down the volume. I'm sure back in the day this was like awesome heavy stuff but now it just sounds crappy to me.
The Stooges
1/5
It's alright, if I had been born in a different time I would probably have loved this. The music doesn't have much appeal to me, lyrically it's okay. I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything by never listening to this again, it just isn't very interesting to me.
Janelle Monáe
2/5
I have never heard this before, I didn't even know she was a singer, I thought she was only an actress. It's pretty good but doesn't really blow me away. My favorite song is one of the less popular ones "Wondaland". I will probably listen to a few songs from this again but it didn't really strike me as something that I need to hear again all the way through.
Beach House
2/5
Not bad but kind of forgettable. I sort of forgot that I was listening to it and it never really grabbed my attention. Probably should give this one another listen just to see if there is anything that I missed.
New York Dolls
2/5
It's alright punk music. I don't regret listening to it but I don't need to hear it again. Didn't hate it but didn't really like it either.
The Stooges
2/5
I definitely like this album more than their previous album. It's still not really my thing, I'm sure it's good for the genre but I just can't get into it. If I had listened to it when I was a teenager things might be different.
Stan Getz
4/5
Really good jazz with a nice variety. I have heard the more famous songs on this album before but never the whole thing. It's not too jazzy if that makes sense. Sometimes jazz can be a little too improvisational for my tastes, this isn't like that.
Metallica
4/5
Great album, I listened to it a bunch as a kid. Really rocks, the guitar work is great and easy to get into. Really brings back memories, thinking that I was super cool listening to it when I was young. I'm sure I will listen to this a bunch more times and probably never get tired of it.
2/5
I enjoyed it more than some punk albums. It's not so "raw" and I probably would have liked it a lot if I heard it when I was a teenager. Now it seems too much for me and I probably won't listen to it again.
Hot Chip
4/5
I have never heard any of this music before today. It's very nice and I really enjoy the chill electronic vibe. They use some really interesting sounds that I don't think I've heard before, excellent bass/drum sounds. This is an album that I will definitely be listening to again, I'm really glad I heard it.
Michael Jackson
4/5
Excellent album, tons of hit songs that I can listen to over and over. The less popular songs are pretty good too. I was in grade school when this came out and it was very popular everyone was trying to moonwalk and be like Michael. It has a real influence on popular culture, it was a fun time.
Sigur Rós
3/5
Very cool sort of ambient music with different elements. I liked it a lot even though I had never heard of them before. It's great to listen to at work or while doing some activity that requires thought. Very chilled out and interesting without being distracting if that makes sense.
Harry Nilsson
2/5
Really good covers of songs. I have never heard of him, apparently he got drunk a lot with John Lennon back in the day. Anyway, not bad but not sure that I need to listen to it again. If you want to chill out and listen to covers then this would be a great album.
Big Star
2/5
Never heard of this band before today, they are not bad. Chilled out easy to listen to music. Great for listening at work or while hanging out. I'm sure that I will listen to this again although nothing really stood out for me.
Kelela
2/5
Pretty good chilled out music. I have never heard of her before today, not sure I would go out of my way to listen again but not bad. Probably good for background music while working or something like that.
PJ Harvey
2/5
Not bad I just don't really like this type of music and if I did want to listen to it I think there are better artists. I've heard this before and still feel about the same, I am not sorry that I listened to it but don't need to hear it again.
De La Soul
2/5
Pretty good, sometimes funny 80's rap. I don't remember hearing it when I was young but I enjoyed hearing it. Probably not something that I would listen to very often but I do like it. Easy to get into rhythms and good lyrics.
Television
3/5
Really good guitar work. Easy to listen to, not mindless like I feel about some late punkish music. I will listen to this again.
The White Stripes
2/5
The album starts out great and is interesting. I have of course heard some of these songs before. By the end of the album I was definitely ready for it to be over. They could have cut the last five or so songs off and the album would have been even better. I'm sure I will hear the hits again but I don't think that I need to listen to the whole album again.
The Who
4/5
These guys are pretty good and probably have a bright future in music.
Just kidding, obviously I've heard this before and it's still really good. Definitely ahead of their time. Great guitar work and vocals.
Tim Buckley
2/5
Interesting falsetto vibe, reminds me of peace and love songs from the 60's. Not bad but I'm not sure I need to listen to the whole thing again.
R.E.M.
5/5
One of my favorite albums. I remember listening to it in high school, it was one those albums that "smart" or "deep" people liked. I definitely thought I was those things when listening to it back in the day. Some great songs, Night Swimming is one of my favorites of all time. Going to listen to this one again without a doubt.
Radiohead
3/5
I like this album but I don't think it is their best work. It just doesn't catch my attention and isn't really my vibe. I'm sure I will listen to it again because it is decent just not my favorite Radio Head album (OK Computer is my favorite).
Gary Numan
2/5
Pretty good synth pop music. I have never heard the whole thing, only "Cars". The album is pretty good with a few other catchy songs. I don't know if I will listen to the whole thing again but I'm glad I heard it.
Iggy Pop
3/5
Although I'm not a big Iggy Pop fan, this is probably my favorite of his albums. It's not too crazy but still a little crazy, just right. I might like his other work more if I had listened to this first and worked into his other stuff. Not sure if I would listen to this agarin but I don't regret hearing it.
Donald Fagen
4/5
I feel like the older I get the more I like Donald Fagen's work. When I was young I didn't really appreciate how sonically deep it is. There is a lot of interesting stuff that is ear candy. I will probably end up buying this album because I think it is great.
Funkadelic
4/5
I have never heard this before today, it's very good. A nice variety of sounds/styles that are very fun to listen to. Has a really nice chill groove that I like. I'm going to be listening to it again for sure.
Amy Winehouse
4/5
Really good album. I've heard it before and actually own it. It's very nice bluesey/loungey singing. Seems like she had a lot of potential and could have made many more excellent albums.
Prefab Sprout
3/5
I don't think I have heard this before, it's pretty good. Reminds me of "The Postal Service" with the kind of whispered singing. The music is very good and pretty chilled out, easy to listen to without being dominating. I'm sure I will be listening to this again.
k.d. lang
3/5
Excellent album that I have not heard all the way through before, it's very chill with excellent vocals. I'm going to listen to this again.
Fiona Apple
3/5
Pretty good album that I have never heard before. Some of the less popular songs like "The First Taste" seem really interesting and I would like to listen to them on a better sound system than the one I listened to this on. I'm sure I will be listening to this one again.
The Smiths
4/5
I listened to The Smiths a lot in my early 20's, pretty good stuff in my opinion. We always made fun of it for being super depressing and causing bouts of crying. Very chilled out, maybe depressing but I like it.
Alice In Chains
4/5
Great album that I listened to in High School. A lot of the songs got tons of radio play, it was very popular. Definitely brings me back to those days. I was wearing plaid flannel shirts and baggy jeans. Great vocals and harmonies between Lane and Jerry, as well as great guitar work. I'm sure I will listen to this many more times.
Kings of Leon
2/5
Not bad but not really for me. Kind of reminds me of Sonic Youth in some ways. I don't think that I would go out of my way to listen to this again.
Elis Regina
4/5
Not bad, I have no idea what they are singing about but it sounds good. Full sounding music that is satisfying to me. I will probably listen to this again although I can't put my finger on exactly why.
Fairport Convention
5/5
I've listened to this album many times and I think that it's excellent. Nice full folk vibe to the music with kind of haunting vocals. It wasn't until recently that I heard this and instantly added it to my favorites. There is a nice variety of music and lyrics too.
Red Hot Chili Peppers
3/5
An album that I listened to in high school. This was really different when it came out and at my high school the more edgy kids were into this and Primus. It's not bad but I don't think I need to hear the whole album. The hit songs are still good even though I have heard them tons of times.
R.E.M.
3/5
Pretty good album although I prefer their later work. This is still pretty creative and chill vibey. I'm sure that I will be listening to some of these songs again but don't need to hear the whole thing again.
Belle & Sebastian
4/5
I have never heard this before and it's really good. Very good full sounding music that is a little bit experimental without being annoying. Sort of contemplative music. I will definitely be listening to this again.
Eminem
3/5
Pretty good Eminem album. I liked his work back when it came out and I still like it now. Wouldn't listen to this all the time but every once in a while is very nice. His lyrics are excellent and the beats are catchy, hard not to like it.
Joanna Newsom
1/5
Seems like musically this is pretty good but it's just not something that I enjoy. Her voice is kind of annoying and I had to turn down the volume. I'm sure it's super poetic and all that but it's just not for me.
Stevie Wonder
4/5
Great album that I have heard a bunch of times. Not quite as good as "Songs in the Key of Life" in my opinion but still a great listen. I'm sure that I will listen to this many more times.
Joan Armatrading
4/5
Very nice funky groovy music that I don't think I have ever heard before. It's pretty good, even less popular songs are good and have a great vibe. I will definitely be listening to this one again.
3/5
Really good, unique electronic music. Not beat heavy stuff, just sort of electric vibes. It's nice and I'm sure I will listen to this again.
Don McLean
3/5
Not bad but I've heard it so many times that it's not so great anymore. I'm sure I will hear these songs again because they seemed to be locked into American pop culture. Don't think I need to try to hear this again because it's just going to happen through movies and other means.
Van Morrison
4/5
Really good, I like his work. I've heard this all before but I still like it and will listen to it many more times. Very chilled out smooth lyrics with nice music. Great music for relaxation and reflection.
Creedence Clearwater Revival
3/5
A few good songs on this album, but I've heard those many times already. Overall, not bad but I'm probably not going to go out of my way to listen to this again because I have heard it so many times.
Dusty Springfield
3/5
Pretty good album, I've heard it before and I still like it. She has a great voice and the songs are excellent and classic. I'm sure that I will listen to this many more times.
Dwight Yoakam
2/5
It's nice twangy country music. Hard for me to get into, I'm not a big fan of the genre. I could see this being considered good though, the music is not bad and the guy is a great singer. His acting is not bad as well, though not relevant to this album in any way.
Lenny Kravitz
1/5
This album is pretty mediocre to me. Even the "hit" songs on this album are not great and forgettable. I'm glad that he kept making music because his later stuff is much better. Guess there is a reason I never heard this album before now.
Rufus Wainwright
2/5
Kind of reminds me of Jeff Buckley in his style. It's not bad but I feel like it's more for a contemplative audience. There might be something going on in the lyrics that I didn't get, maybe it's genius, I don't know. I probably won't go out of my way to listen to it again though.
Paul McCartney and Wings
4/5
Really good Paul McCartney. Never actually heard the whole album, it's really good. Some big hits on there too. I don't know if it's the kind of music that I would go out of my way to listen to but it's great for the genre.
David Bowie
4/5
Really good stuff, I've never actually listened to the whole thing before. Some nice variety too. I'm sure that I will listen to this again.
Jazmine Sullivan
1/5
For me this is kind of forgettable pop music. I'm sure she is a great singer and all, I just don't find it interesting.
The Monkees
2/5
Not bad 60's pop. I liked watching reruns of the TV show when I was a kid. Sort of a wacky comedy show. Not sure if I would listen to this again but it's nice to hear it for the memories.
Leonard Cohen
2/5
I know that he is legendary and all but his music is just not for me. It's more like spoken poetry or something like that. I'm not sorry that I listened to it but I probably won't put it on again.
4/5
Excellent album that I own and have heard many times. I was at just the right age when it came out and it was a regular in my lineup. It was very popular and has a ton of great songs. Even the less mainstream songs are great, in my opinion.
Neil Young
4/5
Excellent album, I've heard it many times and still love it. Poetic lyrics with chill music, it's great stuff. Didn't really care much for it when I was a kid but these days it really fits with my tastes. Will be listening to this many more times.
Morrissey
3/5
Not bad, I remember listening to this years ago and we always joked about crying while listening to it. It's good stuff though, I'm sure I will listen to it again. Very chilled out and sort of depressing but not in a bad way.
Neil Young & Crazy Horse
2/5
Not my favorite Neil Young work. I think his earlier albums are much better. Not sure if I would want to listen to this again, just not much for me to like about it.
Sarah Vaughan
2/5
Not bad, she is a great singer but it's just not the kind of music that I like. I'm sure that she is amazing and everything it's just not my style. Don't see myself listening to this again.
Al Green
3/5
Pretty good chill songs. Very smooth. Haven't heard this before, except for the hits, and it is pretty nice. Not sure if I would see myself sitting around and listening to this but if it was on I wouldn't be upset.
The Cure
4/5
Really good album that I have heard many times. This was the "smart kid" music back in the day. The deep kids would listen to this and think they were smarter than everyone else and that no one understood them. I'm sure the same thing happens these days with different bands. It's a great album that I will listen to many more times and remember how normal and boring of a kid I was.
Madonna
3/5
Not bad, I've heard the hits from this album but never the whole thing. It's pretty good, the non hit songs are more of the same kind of pop music but it isn't tiring and has a catchy beat. Not sure I would go out of my way to listen to this again but it is not bad at all. If I happened upon it I wouldn't be upset.
Bobby Womack
4/5
Very good album! I have never heard this before and it's great, nice vocals, excellent beats. It's smooth and detailed, I like it a lot and will definitely listen to it again.
The Who
1/5
When I saw it was an album from The Who I was kind of excited, but unfortunately this album is super juvenal with simple beats and riffs that are not catchy or fun to listen to. Seems like a lazy album made by some guys who were to high to care what they were doing. Hopefully I never hear this again.
Bill Evans Trio
3/5
Very good jazz piano, it's pretty chilled out. Nice beats perfect for background listening at work or some time you want to relax. I'm sure that I will be listening to this one again when the mood hits.
Neil Young
4/5
Not bad Neil Young. I'm not a huge fan of his work but this album is pretty good, it has a few big hits and some other nice songs. Makes me feel kind of smart listening to this.
N.W.A.
4/5
Great album that was a staple of my youth. This really propelled hip hop into the massive genre it is now. This album was very controversial when it came out with many pearl clutchers freaking out over "Fuck the Police". I'm sure that I will listen to this again even though I probably won't seek it out it's still a great album and I think it's historic too.
Black Flag
2/5
I'm not a huge punk fan but this is not terrible. It's not too wall of fuzz sounding as some punk can be. The singing is not terrible either, I'm sure there is a great punk type message there if I looked at the lyrics. Not bad but I probably don't need to listen to it again.
Simon & Garfunkel
4/5
Classis Simon and Garfunkel album. Plenty of hit songs and great harmonies. Very chilled out and easy to listen to with a pleasant folk vibe. I really like this album and the rest of their work together. I'm sure I will be listening to this one many more times.
Joni Mitchell
4/5
Really good album that I have never heard before, only a few hit songs. It's something that I will definitely listen to again, kind of chill folk music. "River" is my favorite song on the album reminds me of times past, very contemplative. I'm sure I will listen to this again.
Sex Pistols
3/5
Even though I'm not a huge punk fan, this is not bad. It was probably super innovative back in the day. A really nice raw aggressive and emotional outpouring of music. Don't think I need to hear this again but I'm glad I heard it.
Bon Jovi
4/5
Great album! I remember my older sister listening to this and I thought it was the heaviest music I could imagine. There couldn't possibly be anything heavier, this was it. Obviously I was wrong but I still like the album and think that it rocks. It flashes me back to thinking about how cool my sister was listening to this super heavy music.
Ali Farka Touré
3/5
Great album, I really enjoyed listening to it. Never heard it before and I'm not very familiar with west African music so I don't have a lot of experience but the beats are great and it has a nice chill vibe. I would listen to this again at work or as a chilled out background.
Peter Tosh
3/5
Great album, very chill vibe obviously. I have heard some of his songs but never the whole album. If you like reggae then you have probably heard of him and if not give it a listen. Definitely makes me want to smoke some ganja.
LCD Soundsystem
5/5
Great dance album. I've heard it several times before this, it's pretty popular. Very groovy with nice beats but it's different from other edm, hard to describe. I'm sure I will be listening to this many more times. I think it's a classic and sonically very interesting.
The Rolling Stones
4/5
Not bad, lots of classic Stones music. I've just heard it so much and it is such a part of pop culture that I don't need to hear it anymore. It's great but I will hear it just by living in our current society. Once again, no complaints about the music, it's good. It's just overplayed everywhere.
Ice Cube
4/5
This album was very popular when I was young. I remember listening to it and thinking that I was super cool and different. This was a very influential album with great lyrics and beats. It reminds me of the 90's and high school times.
Jeru The Damaja
3/5
Great album that I have never heard before. Excellent lyrics and beats. It's a style of hip hop that I really like and grew up listening to. I'm sorry that I have not heard it until today. I'm sure that I will be listening to this again.
Creedence Clearwater Revival
3/5
Excellent album that I have heard many times. Some of the best classic rock in my opinion. Very good lyrics and music. A little bit of twang to put some flavor on it. Definitely a unique band.
Garbage
4/5
Reminds me very much of being a teenager in the 90s. This was very popular back then. It has a lot of great songs and I really enjoy it. Sort of a unique type of band, nothing is quite like them. I enjoy it and will listen to it many more times.
Jimmy Smith
4/5
Great jazz that I have never heard before. Very smooth, not too experimental. Easy to listen to with a nice groove. I added it to my favorites and will be listening to this one again.
Flamin' Groovies
3/5
This album is really different, not in a bad way. I have never heard of this band it's sort of hard to describe but maybe early rock or blues rock, maybe rockabilly? It's got some nice grooves and interesting lyrics/singing. I'm not sure that I would go out of my way to listen to it but I'm not sorry I heard it.
Badly Drawn Boy
3/5
I have never heard this before and it's different from anything I've listened to. Sort of hard to describe but it's pretty chilled out and easy to listen to. A lot of nice music with a lot going on. Great to listen to while working or relaxing. I will probably listen to this again when a chill mood strikes me.
Boston
4/5
Love this album although I've heard it many times it never gets old. Great guitar work, excellent lyrics and vocals, it really clicks for me. Also brings back memories of this guy I used to know Dallas who worked at a sheet metal shop with me, he was super cool and loved Boston. Whenever I mentioned any other band to him he would inevitably compare them to Boston.
Nine Inch Nails
5/5
I grew up listening to this album and I think it is near perfect. Trent's study of the downfall of this no named individual is nothing short of genius. It was a staple of the 90's with Trent being a legendary musician. Several major hit songs but the other tracks are great too and contribute to the overall story of the album. It's great and I'm sure that I will listen to this many more times.
Fugees
4/5
I remember listening to this album in my apartment in Lawrence Kansas. It was my sophomore year at KU and my friend and I would listen to this album and smoke cannabis. It was really good times, I can almost smell the incense that we would use to cover up the smell from my neighbors. Lots of good memories around this album. It's unfortunate that all three of them appear to be less than stellar individuals, the music is still great though.
Leonard Cohen
2/5
I know he is legendary and all that but I just don't like his style of singing. It seems kind of talk singing that is not appealing to me. I'm not sorry I listened to this but I don't need to hear it again.
Queens of the Stone Age
2/5
Kind of a forgettable album for me. I was never into them and I still think they are just okay. I'm not sorry I listened to it, it's good for a background track while working or something like that. Wouldn't go out of my way to hear it again though.
The Good, The Bad & The Queen
2/5
Not bad, I feel like I've heard some of these before. I don't think that I would go out of my way to hear this again even though it's not bad. Some creative singing and music but not enough to really hook me.
Kendrick Lamar
4/5
Excellent album, I have never heard the whole thing but have listened to the hits. He is one of the best ever in my opinion, very nice flow and excellent lyrics. Great beats, all around outstanding. I'm sure I will be listening to this many more times.
OutKast
4/5
Very good album. I remember listening to this in the lab at college, it was very popular. Some of my classmates were making an mp3 player (it was a long time ago) and they played this album over and over, it never got old. I still like it a lot, it has great beats any lyrics. They are very skilled rappers with great flow, what's not to like?
Michael Kiwanuka
4/5
Excellent album that is on my spotify favorites. I have heard it many times and I really like it. It's different but still has a nice chill groove to it. I'm sure I will be listening to this one many more times. It's great to listen to at work or relaxing at home.
Method Man
3/5
Not bad, I'm not as familiar with his work as other artists around this time. I like it a lot, great beats and lyrics. Seems well thought out, like he has something to say or a story to tell. I'm sure I will listen to this again.
Fairport Convention
3/5
I have not heard this album before, it's really good. I've heard one of their other albums and really liked it, this one is in the same vein. Very nice folk music with an otherworldly type vibe. Very relaxing in an old school way. I'm sure I will be listening to this one again.
The Pogues
3/5
Pretty good album, especially right before Christmas. They are pretty talented and have great lyrics. I'm just think that I like it in much smaller doses. It's kind of tiring to listen to the whole thing.
Fats Domino
3/5
Classic old school pop music. Pretty sure everyone has heard this and familiar with his work. I really like it, not sure if I would go out of my way to listen to it just because it's so prevalent in pop culture.
Tom Waits
1/5
It's alright, kind of a live musical comedy show. I'm not sure I enjoyed it since I was relieved when it was over. I'm sure he is legendary for doing this type of work but it isn't my thing.
Various Artists
3/5
I was a few days behind in my album listening and I just can't listen to any more Christmas music. I'm sure this is great and I will try to listen to it next year.
Marty Robbins
3/5
Really good western music. I have heard some of these songs before but listening to the whole album was pretty cool. I'm not sure I would listen to it again but it's classic western type music that I enjoyed. I don't think that I would seek it out to listen again though.
Dire Straits
4/5
Some really great songs on this album. Sultans Of Swing has one of my favorite guitar solos on it. The other songs are great too with that same classic American rock vibe to it. I'm sure that I will listen to this one many more times.
The Smashing Pumpkins
4/5
I graduated high school the year this album came out, it was a huge hit. My friends and I loved it and listened to it a lot. I remember thinking that it was cool to have a double CD because it was one of the first for me. The videos were also really cool for several of the songs. I really have great memories of this and will listen to it many more times. One of my biggest regrets is not seeing them play live.
Rocket From The Crypt
3/5
I have never heard this before, it's not bad at all. Reminds me of a band that would open for another bigger band in the 90's. Really good, just never caught on. I'm sure if I heard this when it came out I would have liked it and probably bought the album.
ABBA
3/5
Great album with several hit songs. I like it a lot but I hear these songs fairly often in pop culture so I don't see myself seeking out this album to listen to. Still great music though.
Joni Mitchell
4/5
Classic folkish music that I really enjoyed listening to. She is really a legend now. Sort of haunting vibe, very chilled out. I'm sure I will listen to this again.
Wu-Tang Clan
4/5
I love this album, I have a copy of it at home and listen to it regularly. It's classic hip hop and I'm sure that I will listen to it many more times. Wu Tang, to me, is a hip hop super group and there has never been anything like it since.
The Beach Boys
5/5
Great album with lots of classic songs. Reminds me of being at the water park as a kid. Very chill music with excellent lyrics. I wouldn't buy this one just because I've heard it so many times but it's definitely one of those classic albums that is just about perfect.
Bill Callahan
3/5
I have never heard of Bill Callahan or this album before today. It's pretty good, a chill contemplative vibe. Sort of folk lounge type thing. I can definitely see myself listening to this again.
The Cramps
3/5
Pretty good punkish music. I have heard of them but never heard their work. The lyrics are excellent, I really enjoyed them and the delivery is very interesting sort of theatrical. This was a fun album to listen to and I'm sure I will listen to it again maybe around Halloween, it has that kind of vibe to me.
Supergrass
3/5
I don't think I ever heard this in the 90's which is too bad because I think it's really good. Their hit song Alright is great but there are a lot of other good songs on this album too. This is an album that I will be listening to again. The whole thing is sort of an upbeat vibe which is really nice.
Rage Against The Machine
4/5
I was in high school when this came out and it was a really big deal, super popular. It's an amazing album that I have heard many times and I always get pumped up listening to it. Hearing it back when I was young kind of gave me some hope for the future, sort of like regular people could make a difference. Very creative guitar work and excellent lyrics what's not to like?
Supertramp
2/5
Classic rock that is not bad. I've heard it so many times in pop culture that it kind of blends in. It's sort of hard for me to remember listening to it because some of these songs are played somewhat regularly on a classic rock station that my coworkers listen to. I don't regret listening to the whole thing and it's not unpleasant just not memorable.
808 State
3/5
Nice early electronic music. I've never heard the whole thing and it's really good all the beats are catchy. This was a great album and I'm sure now that I've heard it I will listen to it when I'm in an upbeat vibe.
Not my favorite U2 album, there are a few songs that are nice but some songs almost seem cheesy at this point. I don't think I have heard the whole thing before today and don't regret it but it's not on the same level as some of their other work.
Queen
3/5
I have never actually listened to this album and some songs are very strange and not much to my liking but other songs are classics. Excellent album but a few misses in my opinion that keep it from being one of the greats. I don't regret listening to it and I'm sure I will hear it again.
Janis Joplin
4/5
Excellent album I enjoyed the whole thing. She was a fantastic singer and very unique. The lyrics are great, the music is excellent and the vocal delivery is amazing. What's not to like about this album. I'm glad I listened to it and will definitely be listening to it again.
Eminem
4/5
Great album that I have heard many times. I think that it's great with some excellent beats and lyrics delivered flawlessly. Drug Ballad was always a favorite back in the day even though it obviously got no radio play. Good stuff with some emotional content as well. I'm sure that I will listen to this many more times.
John Martyn
3/5
I'm pretty sure that I have never heard of John Martyn or this album before today but I think it is excellent. Very chill folk, trance, electronic sort of vibe. The singing isn't my favorite part but the music is great with some really creative stuff considering the time it came out.
Neil Young
3/5
Pretty good Neil Young. I have not heard most of these songs and enjoyed them for the first time. I wasn't blown away but it was a great listen and I'm sure I will put it on again. He has a nice blend of country and folk that is pretty chilled out.
Bob Marley & The Wailers
3/5
Great reggae music, very accessible and easy to listen to. Some classic songs as well as some great beats on ones that I was not familiar with. Very chilled out, I could listen to this often while blazing it. Seems like they go hand in hand.
Steely Dan
3/5
Not my favorite Steely Dan album but it's still a great listen. I've heard the hits on this one many times but never the whole thing. It has a nice upbeat vibe that I really liked. I'm sure I will be putting this on again sometime soon.
Guns N' Roses
4/5
Excellent album that I listened to when I was growing up. A lot of great songs and Sweet Child O Mine is still great even though I have heard it a million times. This album really rocks but has a few lame outliers in my opinion.
Suede
2/5
Pretty chilled out album that I have never heard before. I enjoyed listening to it but none of the songs really stood out to me. That isn't necessarily bad though if you want some chill music that isn't overbearing.
4/5
Excellent album, I really enjoyed it. Some classic songs and some I have never heard but overall I liked it and her voice is not like anything I have heard before. Classic stuff.
Ananda Shankar
1/5
Sort of whimsical and if you are in the mood for that it would be great. A whole album of it gets a little tiring for me. It's creative and I'm sure the musician is great at what he does but I'm not sure I need to hear it again unless it was in a super light hearted setting where people are putting odd songs on for comedic effect.
David Bowie
1/5
Not my favorite David Bowie. The album seems kind of tired for some reason and I can't really get into it. I'll continue enjoying his earlier works and probably avoid this one in the future.
Pixies
4/5
I own this album so it's safe to say that I really like it. It's very chilled out with great lyrics and music. I remember listening to it when I was young and it still feels young and fresh to me, like it could have been released last week. I'm sure this is just my bias though. This album is great and I really like the whole thing.
Belle & Sebastian
3/5
Great indie rock that I have never heard before. Great music and lyrics. I'm not sure how I missed this in the 90s because it would have been right up my alley. I'm glad that I heard it and will be listening to it again. Great for a lower energy activity or gathering.
Pet Shop Boys
4/5
Very chill synth pop, I really like it. It's easy to listen to and catchy, even the less popular songs. Not sure if I have ever heard this album the whole way through but it is definitely worth it. Something about the singing that is robotic but melodic at the same time, it's hard to describe but its a great vibe that works really well. I'm sure I will be listening to this again.
The KLF
4/5
Very nice electronic dance music. I've never heard it before but I actually listened to it twice because the beats are very catchy and it has a great groove to it. Time flew by while listening and nodding along. I'm sure I will listen to this one many more times.
Blur
2/5
I remember when this came out and I was lukewarm on it then. After listening to it again I still think it is alright but nothing great. It's not something that I will be listening to again. Kind of forgettable overall with maybe a good song or two in there.
Common
3/5
I listened to it a couple of times and although nothing really stood out to me I still really enjoyed it. Very nice beats and lyrics. I never listened to this when it came out so it was nice to hear it now. Interesting to hear the track of Common and Kanye on the Dave Chappell Show.
Thundercat
5/5
I love this album enough to own the hard to open vinyl box. It's great with a variety of beats and lyrics. A lot of it is kind of funny and some of those songs are on my normal rotation playlist. For me this is a perfect album with every song being one that I really enjoy and can get into. It's very chilled out and not overbearing, I love it and will listen to it many more times.
Ryan Adams
2/5
I've never heard of Ryan Adams or this album, it's not bad. Very chilled out rock music. Nothing really caught my attention but it's not bad overall. More of a relax and listen type of album for doing something social while listening to this in the background.
Def Leppard
4/5
Excellent album that I have heard many times. It was very popular back when I was young and my older sister played it. I thought it was extremely heavy at that young age. It's still a great listen and I enjoyed all the hit songs that are on it. Some of the other songs sort of fit the Def Leppard mold but don't really stand out. I'm sure I will be listening to this one again.
The Strokes
3/5
Nice rock music that has a fun and not too serious vibe. I've heard a lot of these songs before. The rest of the album is in the same vein as their hit songs, no real surprises. It's a nice listen and I'm sure I will listen to their music again, just maybe not the whole album at once.
Bob Marley & The Wailers
5/5
One of my favorite Bob Marley albums. I have a copy and listen to it often. My significant other and I went to Jamaica to his birthplace at Nine Mile, it's safe to say that I am a big fan. Can't recommend this album enough, the beats and lyrics are perfect. It has a super chill vibe while still delivering a message. Got me interested in Reggae music.
The Lemonheads
3/5
I remember listening to some of these songs when I was a kid. The "weird" kids listened to the Lemonheads, they weren't so mainstream. It's a great album with great tunes that are pretty chilled out. Some interesting lyrics that fit right in. It's kind of a nice time capsule type album for me to remember the old high school days.
The Beta Band
3/5
Nice, sort of dreamy rock music. I have never heard of them but it's not bad at all. Pretty chilled out music that I can listen to while doing other activities. Nothing really stood out on the album but that isn't necessarily bad. It's nice to hear something a little bit different.
New Order
4/5
Excellent album, I really enjoy this type of synth pop. I've never actually heard this whole album but I recognize some of the hits. It's really well done musically and lyrically. The style of singing is very unique and instantly reminds me of when I was young.
Curtis Mayfield
4/5
Excellent album, I have heard his other work and I'm a huge fan of the Superfly soundtrack. This album has great beats and super smooth vocals, the lyrics are really nice too. I'm a fan and will continue to listen to his music, I think it's great for a lot of occasions, very chilled out but romantic too.
Public Enemy
3/5
Great hip hop that was very popular back in the day. I remember some of these songs being played when I was a kid. I didn't understand them until much later. Great beats and great early hip hop, really classic stuff.
Ladysmith Black Mambazo
4/5
Pretty good African music. Reminds me of Lion King. It's pretty good, the band did some work with Paul Simon. I'm guessing that catapulted them to stardom. Great album, very different kind of music. Great harmonies.
The Last Shadow Puppets
3/5
Not bad sort of western rock that I have never heard before. It's nice an chilled out, I'm glad that I heard it. Would be nice to play at a get together as it's not too dominating.
Run-D.M.C.
4/5
Classic hip hop. My older sister had this album when I was a kid and I thought it was so cool. We used to sing along to some of these songs when I was in grade school, good memories.
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
3/5
Sort of ghosty pop music. I have heard some of the hits before but never the whole album. Not bad, probably good to put on at a get together because it's not too overbearing.
Bob Dylan
2/5
It's not bad, the lyrics are really creative. The only thing is it seems to repeat a delivery style that gets kind of old. To listen to every once in a while it's probably pretty good. I guess I'm just not a Bob Dylan fan.
The B-52's
2/5
Not a terrible album but it's a little too much for me. It's kind of whimsical which isn't necessarily bad but I have heard it so much that I'm pretty much over it. It was kind of fun and 'edgy' when I was young but I will be fine hearing it only through pop culture these days.
Sam Cooke
4/5
Excellent album, I didn't realize how many great songs he had until I heard this. I'm a fan now and I plan to listen to more of his work. It also has a kind of nostalgic vibe to it for me.
Bad Brains
3/5
Pretty good punk/metal with a little hair band mixed in. I don't think I have heard them before but I really like it. Definitely a different kind of vibe from the standard in those days. I'm sorry I didn't hear this earlier in my life, I'm sure I would have gone crazy over it when I was young.
Steely Dan
5/5
My ex wife hated Steely Dan so I never really listened to them when I was younger. Now that she is no longer in the picture I have really come to appreciate them and their songcraft. The music is excellent with great lyrics. Some of the songs are pretty epic, really building up a great musical composition. This is one of my favorite albums and I enjoy every song on it. I'm sure I will listen to it many more times.
The Kinks
2/5
Very nice pop rock. I'm not very familiar with The Kinks but this album was great. Catchy tunes with sometimes funny lyrics. Nothing really blew me away and the nostalgia factor isn't there for me but I don't regret listening to it.
Leonard Cohen
2/5
It's alright, I'm sure he is a great story teller song writer type person. I'm just not sure I find that enjoyable. I gave this album more stars than I rated his previous one because I think it is better. Nothing personal against the guy, I know he is super popular but I'm just not that into his work.
Q-Tip
3/5
I haven't heard of him before listening to this album today. It really enjoyed the flow and the nice beats. It's different from anything I have heard before but I can't quite put my finger on why. I like it and I'm going to listen to it again.
Ghostface Killah
3/5
I had only heard one song from this album before today. The rest of the album is pretty good too. I really like how it tells a story, it's always nice when the artist makes a cohesive story. I'm sure I will listen to this one again.
ZZ Top
2/5
It's alright, but the problem is that I've heard it a million times and it isn't good enough to keep my interest over time.
My favorite memory of ZZ Top is playing Space Quest and one of the bands in the space bar was ZZ Top. That doesn't really have anything to do with this album but sometimes I think about it and how much fun I had playing that game back in the day.
Sufjan Stevens
5/5
One of my favorite albums that I only recently got into. It's a little bit whimsical, not in a bad way at all though. Great music, lyrics and vocal work. There is a kind of ethereal vibe to a lot of the songs that I really enjoy. Super chill album to put on and think about life. I own this album and plan to listen to it many more times.
Ramblin' Jack Elliott
2/5
I've never heard of Ramblin' Jack Elliott before. Not bad if you are in the right mindset. Seems like he is telling a nice story with decent music. It's a niche kind of thing for me, if I'm in the mood for sort of western folk music I will load him up.
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
3/5
I enjoyed this album a lot more than his other work that I have heard, probably my favorite so far. It is more relaxed and maybe a little more mainstream compared to his other maybe more recent stuff. I like the music and the vocals on this album where his vocals in other work is not my thing, maybe it's more serious or something. This is an album of his that I can actually see myself listening to again.
Gotan Project
2/5
Nothing that really blew me away. Pretty chilled out music that would be good to have on in the background. It's not really something that I would focus on.
The Clash
4/5
Pretty catchy album, lots of good songs that I have never heard before. Probably need to be in the right mood to listen because it isn't exactly chill music. It's not terribly aggressive either though and not tiring to listen to. I'm sure I will listen to this again even if I don't seek it out.
Paul Simon
5/5
An excellent album that I have heard many times. It has a nice combination of musical styles with some excellent vocal guests. I think that all of Paul Simon's work is excellent but this is probably at the top for me, it has a little bit of everything and is a joy to listen to from beginning to end.
Pink Floyd
4/5
Classic album, I've heard it many many times. Very chilled out and easy to listen to. I remember listening to this in the basement of my friend's house while we smoked cannabis and talked about dumb stuff. Good times.
Spacemen 3
2/5
It's alright, I'm not sorry that I listened to it. Kind of experimental in some ways. The song "Suicide" is understandably pretty brutal, I ended up skipping through it. It's thought provoking for sure, if you are down for some contemplation then this is probably a good album for you.
Genesis
2/5
Not my favorite Genesis album but definitely worth a listen. It's kind of different, maybe theatrical or something else I can't put my finger on. Would be nice to have on in the background for another activity, nice ambiance but you don't really need to get into it.
Metallica
5/5
One of my favorite albums growing up. It made me and everyone else want to learn to play guitar because it really rocked. Not many people in those days could resist doing air guitar when the solos kick in, I suspect that is still true today. I'll surely listen to this album many more times when the mood hits.
Tears For Fears
4/5
Excellent album, I've heard it many times and enjoy it each time. Their other work is fantastic as well. Very chilled out but not too chill vibe to it. The vocals on this album are top notch and draw me in every time. Excellent beats too, synth pop type stuff that I really enjoy.
2/5
I have never heard of Spirit before today, it's not bad. The songs are pretty chilled out to listen to, probably good for background music. Some of the songs are pretty interesting and maybe a bit experimental. Still cool though.
Living Colour
3/5
Great album, I have never heard the whole thing and I really enjoyed it. Excellent mix of musical styles, there isn't any other band quite like this. Would be good to listen to when you need some hype.
Björk
1/5
It's a bit much. On her older albums the wailing voice was kind of a novelty and something that she used carefully. This album features heavy use of that voice and it gets old pretty quickly. It's fun if there is a touch sprinkled here and there but overuse is tiresome. The cover photo is pretty cool though.
Talking Heads
3/5
It's not my favorite Talking Heads album but it's still pretty enjoyable and in their signature style. I probably wouldn't listen to it very often because I have heard their work so much. Not complaining though because it's still a great album.
The Stone Roses
3/5
Pretty chill rock album. I remember listening to this when I was young. The next album was more popular amongst my friends but the "alt" kids of the day preferred this album. It's great and very easy to listen to, I'm going to put this on when a relaxed mood hits me.
The Auteurs
2/5
I have never heard this album before today. It's alright, nothing really stood out to me though. Might be nice to put on an obscure chill party mix.
My Bloody Valentine
1/5
Maybe I'm getting old but I didn't really like this one very much. It just seems noisy and annoying.
The Verve
2/5
It's an alright, mellow rock album. Nothing really stood out but the lyrics seem nice. Probably wouldn't be bummed out if I never came across this one again.
Lou Reed
2/5
Sort of poetic story telling put to music kind of thing. Not bad but probably not something I am going to want to listen to again. I can see the appeal though, it's kind of cool.
Nick Drake
3/5
Very chill folk music with great vocals. I have heard of him and actually own one of his other albums. Great to listen to when I laid back mood hits. It's an easy listen.
Hanoi Rocks
2/5
Interesting hair metal band. Some Axl Rose type backup vocals in some songs are pretty nice. Can't remember hearing them when I was young but it seems like something my older sister would have listened to. Not bad overall but I'm not sure I need to listen to it again.
Pantera
5/5
Excellent album that I owned when I was young. I listened to this all the time, it really brought back memories. Great guitar work and vocals. There is a lot of power behind these songs, they are very hard hitting. Definitely listen to this when you are in the right mood. To me it's perfect for the genre and time it came out.
I heard them play live one time and the guitarist (Dimebag Darrell) was phenomenal. It was absolutely incredible, like his fingers were floating all over the fretboard. Probably the best live guitar work I have ever heard. Too bad he was killed at a relatively young age.
Billy Bragg
2/5
Never heard this before. Kind of Irish worker songs. Several songs about being in a union and how great that is so that's pretty cool. The songs are catchy but I don't really see myself listening to it again. Nothing against workers rights or anything, I'm all for it.
Prince
4/5
Pretty good album in Prince unmistakable style. I'm not sure if I have ever heard this album all the way through before but it was really good with some great beats and excellent lyrics/vocals. I'm sure I will listen to this many more times.
The Verve
3/5
Some good songs that I remember listening to back when this came out. Brings back some memories of being at college in Lawrence, KS. I don't know that it's anything I would listen to these days but it's not bad and kind of nostalgic for me.
Peter Frampton
4/5
Excellent album. I remember getting high in my friends basement listening to a lot of these songs. He has a sort of jam band vibe to me, maybe it's the live recording, but I really like it. It's really easy to listen to without being overbearing, kind of old guy rock. I'm sure I will be listening to this one many more times.
Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan
3/5
I don't know what the guy is saying but he can really sing. There is an amazing amount of volume coming out of this guy, it must be amazing live. Not sure if I would listen to this again but I don't regret hearing it.
Moby Grape
3/5
Not bad classic rock. I don't think I have ever heard of this band until today and I'm not sure why that would be. They seem good enough to be more widespread. It's pretty chill classic rock, I would listen to this again.
The Who
3/5
I have never heard this whole album before, it's pretty good but not what I was expecting. I can understand why people like them so much, there is some variety to the music and a lot of potential. This is an album I will definitely be listening to again although I'm not blown away.
Sade
3/5
Great album, very chill with some great beats. Vocals are of course top notch. It really brings me back in time, remembering my older sisters playing this when I was a little kid.
Brian Eno
4/5
Excellent album that I have never heard before. He has a little bit of a Talking Heads vibe which I think is really nice. There are also some instrumental tracks that I liked a lot. This is an album that I'm going to listen to again. I will probably keep a look out for it in record shops too.
The Prodigy
3/5
I had this album when I was young. It was pretty popular amongst my friends for some reason that I can't remember. Great trip down memory lane, I think it's a great album with excellent beats and some high energy vocals. I kind of forgot about the lead singer with the crazy hair and extreme eyeliner. Good stuff.
The Undertones
2/5
I have never heard of them, but it's pretty good. Not too aggressive, easy to listen to. Seems like nice lyrics and music. Kind of popish rock. It's not something that I regret listening to but I probably won't listen again even though it's not bad. There is just so much in this genre.
T. Rex
3/5
Kind of mellow songs mixed with a few rocking ones. Not bad at all, it's very easy to listen to. The variety is really nice too, seems to check a lot of boxes. This was before my time but I could see myself listening to this if I was around in those days.
The Killers
3/5
It's not bad, I remember hearing some of these songs back when it came out. Of course Mr. Brightside is/was super popular. I think I hear this enough in pop culture to not need to hear it again although I don't regret hearing it this one time.
Emmylou Harris
2/5
Pretty chill country music that I have never heard before. Similar to Dolly Parton. She is a very talented singer and I can appreciate that but it's just not something that I would listen to again.
Hugh Masekela
4/5
I have never heard this before, it's really good with a nice variety of sounds. It's pretty chilled out and easy to listen to. I've added this to my favorites and plan to listen to it many more times. It's going to be perfect for get togethers or to listen to at work.
Bob Dylan
1/5
It's alright, I guess maybe I'm just not a fan of this style of "singing". I'm sure the stories he is telling are great and all but I just don't care much for this style.
Cocteau Twins
4/5
I remember this from when I was young but I was never really into it back then. It's pretty interesting, not in a bad way. It took me a minute to realize that she wasn't actually singing words that make sense, and it really works well. Her vocals are more like an instrument. Very interesting music too, its very chilled out and spacey. I'm sure I will be listening to this again.
Iron Maiden
3/5
Not my favorite Iron Maiden album but it is still pretty good. It's a really unique blend of sort of operatic vocals and high energy music. They never fail to get me pumped up. Their shirts were very popular when I was young with amazing art work.
Drive Like Jehu
1/5
Not really my thing. I found it kind of annoying and forgettable, turning down the volume at one point. It's nice to listen to different stuff so I don't regret it but I won't be putting it on again.
The Doors
2/5
Not bad but not my favorite album of theirs. It has pretty chilled out vibe that is pretty nice. I'm not sure it's something that I like enough to listen to again though. Not complaining or anything, it might be that I have just heard it enough times.
Van Morrison
3/5
Pretty good easy to listen to. For me it wasn't really memorable but the vibe is very chilled out and I enjoyed it. Didn't blow me away though.
The Temptations
2/5
Not bad, pretty chilled out motown type music. It's nice but I don't think I would seek it out, it's just not my kind of thing. I can appreciate their talent though, they are crazy good at what they do.
Beatles
3/5
No surprises here, one of the most famous bands with another great album. Catchy beats and good lyrics. Some big hit songs. Maybe not their best album but it's not bad. I don't think that I would seek it out again just because I hear them so much in every day life.
Sonic Youth
3/5
Pretty good stuff, I remember listening to them when I was in high school. It was a little more obscure then with only the more musically adventurous kids having it. Great lyrics and the music is very different. I really enjoyed listening to this album and I'll will definitely listen to it again.
My Bloody Valentine
2/5
I'm not a big fan of this album. I've tried to listen to it several times and I just think it is alright. It might have helped if I was exposed to it earlier but there was so much other music that caught my ear back then. I'm sure I will give it another chance in a few months like I always do but I am not convinced that I will ever learn to like it.
The Style Council
3/5
Pretty chill popish music that I have never heard before. Nice vocals and relaxed 80's music. I don't really remember any songs standing out but as a whole it would be nice to listen to during a relaxing evening.
Black Sabbath
3/5
Very good classic metal. Maybe it's not the best now but thinking that they are one of the innovators of this sound is pretty amazing. Very ground breaking stuff. Fun to listen to with great vocals and music. I'm sure I will listen to this again.
The White Stripes
3/5
Great album that I have heard several times. Good vocals and beats. Nice variety of music. It's not something that I would seek out but a good listen if the mood hits.
Bruce Springsteen
3/5
Great album that I have never heard the whole way through. Great American rock with some classic songs. Very well written and catchy tunes all around. Bruce never forgot what it meant to be a working American and it really comes through in his lyrics.
Elvis Costello & The Attractions
3/5
Very chilled out album that I have never heard before. It's a nice listen with great lyrics and, although nothing that blew me away, the music fits with it. I'd probably add some of these songs to a fun/chill playlist. Wouldn't be opposed to listening to this again.
Red Hot Chili Peppers
2/5
The hit songs are pretty good but I've heard them a million times. All the less popular songs seem kind of lame sing songy type vocals. I really liked them back in the 90's but it seems to have worn off for me. Wouldn't really mind if I never heard this album again.
David Bowie
3/5
Totally different from his other work, it's a really interesting listen. Some good stuff and a sort of final send off from this amazing artist. I'm sure I will listen to this again.
David Bowie
3/5
Not my favorite Bowie album but it's not bad. I would listen to this before a lot of other music but compared to his other work I think it falls a bit short. Having said that I would listen to it again so obviously I don't think it's that bad, just not as catchy or groundbreaking as his other work.
Super Furry Animals
3/5
Interesting album that I have never heard before. Not like the music that I listened to in the 90's, it's more rockish I guess. It's not a bad listen, strange that I don't remember hearing them back when I was young. Probably a good choice for a get together where you don't want to play the same old stuff.
The Byrds
2/5
Have never heard this album before, not bad but I wasn't expecting the twang. It's good for the genre, but this genre isn't really something that I'm into. I don't regret listening to it because it does seem unique but probably won't be putting it on again.
The Mothers Of Invention
1/5
It's definitely different, a unique experience. Not in a good way though. I feel like Frank's vocal delivery is really sing-songy and kind of lame. There is a pattern to the delivery that makes me cringe. It's hard for me to imagine how he got so famous. This music is a one and done for me, I don't feel like I ever need to listen to this again. Maybe the message in the vocals is nice but it's not something that I would care to spend any time on.
Green Day
4/5
Great album that I have heard many times. I really enjoy all their work, it really reminds me of my youth. Some big hit songs but also some hidden gems that make for a nice album. I'm sure I will be listening to this one again.
The Prodigy
4/5
Great beats on this high energy album. It really brings me back to hearing them play live when I was young. A great show, they were really amazing. I had to work the next day and left before they played their last song. To this day I regret that decision. I could have called in sick or gone to work tired but I could never go back and hear that again.
Madonna
3/5
Obviously Like a Prayer is a great song that is super popular but there are some other good songs too, in my opinion at least. Till Death Do Us Part has sort of a creepy music vibe to go along with the lyrics. Good stuff. It's not necessarily my genre but I enjoyed listening to it.
Frankie Goes To Hollywood
3/5
Really fun album that I have never heard before. I had only heard their hit song about not coming from this but the other songs are really good too. Good variety of music and lyrical content. I would probably listen to this again although it didn't change my life or anything like that.
The Beach Boys
3/5
Not my favorite of their albums but it's not bad. It's enjoyable party type songs that are a fun listen. I probably won't listen to this again but it was nice and reminds me of going to the water park when I was a kid. They would always play the Beach Boys.
Ray Charles
4/5
Never heard this album before today. It's a quick listen and gets right to the point. Very nice music and he is of course a legendary singer. It's very chilled out with the songs being a bit slower, not in a bad way though. It works really well and I enjoyed listening.
Linkin Park
4/5
I remember listening to this album when I was younger. There are a lot of great high energy songs that remind me of good times. This is one of those albums where I enjoyed listening to the whole thing, it didn't really have a song that I didn't like. I'm sure I will listen to this when the mood strikes me.
Destiny's Child
3/5
It's great for this style of music. Very catchy beats and lyrics, they are obviously great singers. It's not something that I would listen to in my day to day life so it was a nice listen.
Christine and the Queens
4/5
Never heard of this album before today. It's not bad sort of synth pop dance stuff. Nice catchy beats, a lot of the lyrics are in I'm guessing French so I didn't understand it so much. Still an enjoyable listen.
Neu!
4/5
I have never heard this before, it was really interesting, something I wasn't expecting. It has a kind of new age vibe and some of the songs are really ethereal and dreamy. Half of the songs are really pop rockish though so it's a nice variety. I enjoyed this one a lot more than I thought I would.
Nirvana
5/5
I grew up listening to this. It released when I was the perfect age for it, so it has had quite an impact on me. I loved it at the time and I still love it to the point where it's a perfect album for me. The memories it evokes are some of the best memories of my life. Being a young kid, feeling like no one understood... this music really was just perfect for that. It's hard to put into perspective how popular this album was and how it changed things forever. At the time I just thought it was catchy teen angst music, now it seems like a time capsule from the 90's to remind me of how great I actually had it.
Paul Simon
2/5
Not my favorite of his solo albums. There are a few good songs but I think this album is him trying to figure it out. Not much really stood out and wasn't really enjoyable.
Brian Eno
3/5
Great ambient chill music. I think that he does some pretty great work. It's not something I would listen to all the time but when the mood for a sonic chill fest strikes me, this would be a great album to put on.
The Charlatans
2/5
It's alright kind of generic pop music. Nothing really stood out and I pretty much forgot the album a few minutes after listening. This one is an easy skip for me, your mileage may vary.
White Denim
4/5
Very cool kind of ambient album that I have never heard before. It's pretty chilled out kind of trippy songs. Easy to listen to, catchy with nice beats. Some interesting musical choices make it unlike other music I have heard. I think it's a little strange that I have never heard of a band that I like this much.
Dolly Parton
3/5
Some classic Dolly Parton songs and some lesser known but good ones too. This is a great album if you like Dolly's work. Reminds me of when I was a kid in the 80's and she was super popular.
Marvin Gaye
5/5
Pretty easy to review this album as it is one of my favorites of all time. It's a really brilliant protest album that has stood for quite a while as one of the all time greatest. The beats and the lyrics are phenomenal, I could listen to it over and over and never get tired of it. The album is pretty much perfect as far as I'm concerned. I enjoy the entire thing from beginning to end. There is never a point where I space out, it has my attention the whole time even after so many listens throughout my lifetime.
Lupe Fiasco
2/5
It's alright hip hop for me. Never heard of him before today, he has a really nice flow but it gets a little stale over the length of the album. Good beats and some of it is catchy just not for an entire album. I can definitely see how people would like this though.
Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young
3/5
Some nice classic rock. A few big hit songs and a few that are good despite not being big hits. I have never heard this album as a whole and I enjoyed it more than I thought.
The Byrds
3/5
Great album that I have never heard before. I have very little knowledge of The Byrds work, this is my first time hearing this album and it is not bad. Very chilled out rock vibes with nice lyrics and vocals. Some interesting music with nice variety. I'm going to put this on again when I want to chill out and vibe to some nice tunes.
Big Brother & The Holding Company
4/5
Never heard this album before but when I saw that Janis Joplin was the singer I knew that it would be excellent. Some of the songs are familiar to me, "Piece of My Heart" is, of course, a classic. The music is pretty much what you would expect for this time period, it's the vocals that make it stand out. She was just brilliant and I love listening to her sing.
The Police
4/5
I love the Police but I've never actually heard this whole album before. The hit songs that you have heard a million times are great but there are some other less popular songs that are still a great listen. Great vocals and music. Really a power trio, big sound coming from these three.
Goldfrapp
2/5
This album is super mediocre. Not terrible, I didn't turn the volume down or anything like that. It's just that nothing stood out, nothing was memorable about this album. It had no effect on me whatsoever, I don't care if I ever hear it again.
Kings of Leon
1/5
To me this album is pretty boring, nothing stood out. Songs sound very similar and are easily forgotten. Not even a catchy beat or surprising vocal run, nothing of interest to me. I wouldn't care if I never heard this album again, it did nothing for me.
The Cult
3/5
Excellent 80's rock with outstanding vocals. Hard to describe but the singer is really going for it on every line of every song, putting everything he has behind it. It's not something that I would listen to all the time but great for a party mix or when a higher energy mood hits. This is probably what my older sister was listening to when I was a kid, causing my dad to yell at her to turn it down.
Black Sabbath
4/5
Excellent album that really broke new ground and started a genre of music. Brilliant guitar work really stands out as well as fantastic lyrics from a legendary singer. Yesterday, as I'm writing this, Ozzy died at 76 years old. It's really amazing that he lived to be this old considering the lifestyle that he led for a large portion of his life. The guy is a total legend and will not be forgotten.
Boards of Canada
4/5
I've heard this album several times and I think that it is outstanding. Great beats that are super chilled out. I find myself nodding along to each song. A few exceptional songs the whole album is a nice listen. I'm sure I will be putting this one on again when a chill mood arises, would be great for a party where you want some nice background music.
Elvis Costello & The Attractions
2/5
Not bad sort of chill rock music. Good beats and vocals it just that nothing really stood out for me. I don't regret listening to it but I won't be in any hurry to listen to it again.
Green Day
4/5
One of my favorite albums from when I was young. It was one of the first CDs I bought for myself and it was one of the first live shows that I went to. I still remember the sound guys testing out the kick drum before any of the openers even came out. I could feel it in my body. I was instantly hooked on live shows. Several big hit songs but they are all catchy to me and have a special place in my heart. Green Day was one of my first musical loves and I still really enjoy it.
10cc
3/5
Never heard this album before and have never heard of this group. It's surprisingly pretty good and easy to listen to. Interesting music with creative beats and a somehow totally different style that I have heard before. The vocals are really nice with some really soaring parts. There is also a nice synth/guitar sound that I enjoyed.
Bob Dylan
3/5
I'm not a big Bob Dylan fan but this album is not bad. He actually sings a bit and I didn't mind it. The lyrics are really nice poetic verses. The music is pretty simple but it complements the vocals. Probably won't listen to this one very often but I could see myself putting it on if I was in the mood.
MC Solaar
2/5
It's an alright album. Some of the beats are nice with brass instruments mixed in. The lyrics are, I think, in French so I didn't really understand them but seemed like he has nice flow. Nothing really jumped out at me but I didn't hate it either. Would be nice to put a couple of these songs on a party mix to add some variety to the playlist.
Queen
3/5
Not a bad Queen album. It's about what I was expecting. Some great operatic music with amazing vocals. I do not recall hearing any of these songs before today's listen. I'm guessing there wasn't a big hit on this album but that's okay it's still a great consistent listen.
Taylor Swift
3/5
I've heard this album many times because my girlfriend is a huge fan. It's alright, a lot of catchy beats and nice vocal arrangements. I wouldn't go out of my way to listen to it just because I heard it somewhat often in my life. It's not something that I would put on but I don't hate it either.
The Kinks
3/5
Really good classic rock that I have not heard before today. A lot of the songs have great music, lyrics and vocals. Surprised that they don't have more listens on the streaming service. It's pretty mellow and easy to listen to, I found myself nodding along to many songs and replaying a couple so I could vibe one more time. I'm sure I will be listening to this one again.
Lynyrd Skynyrd
3/5
Pretty good album with a few big hit songs. The whole album has a nice chill vibe and wasn't bad. It's just that I have heard the hit songs a million times and it doesn't really do anything for me. I can sing along a bit but it's just an album that I don't need to listen to again. Not bad, just not my thing.
Public Image Ltd.
1/5
Not a great album for me. Music seemed uninspired and the vocals were nothing special. I know the singer is from the sex pistols but I don't really like them either.
Bruce Springsteen
3/5
Great classic American rock. I always thought of him as the working man's musician. Not a ton of musical variety but it's still good. Easy to listen to with great lyrics. I'm not a huge fan but I can see why people like this album.
Ice Cube
3/5
Not a bad album, there are some great beats and lyrics but there just isn't a real hit song that I can get into. I kept waiting for a real banger but I just never got it. That doesn't mean that I didn't like it, I actually enjoyed it but I wanted a little more.
Led Zeppelin
4/5
Great classic album. Lots of hits that I have heard a million times. It's great but I hear these songs often enough in my daily life that I would never think to put this album on. It's one of the best albums that I will never listen to again.
Emerson, Lake & Palmer
3/5
I really enjoyed this album. It's kind of psychedelic, with some nice organ riffs that you don't really get these days. It's a live album so you can hear the crowd reacting to the music which is pretty cool. I could see myself putting this on when a chill mood arises. It's really easy to listen to and I found myself nodding along.
Joy Division
3/5
Kind of brooding music that I'm surprised came out in 1980. It seems like it should have come out much later. I'm guessing this album was an inspiration for later bands because the vibe really permeates into 90's music. It's not a bad album, easy to listen to and different. Probably not something that I would seek out but I don't regret listening to it. Would be nice to mix a few of these tracks into a chill playlist.
Roxy Music
3/5
Different from their other albums, it's still good but I prefer their other music. This one doesn't really stand out with any grand songs that I was expecting. It's not bad but I'm guessing they were still working up to their greatest music.
The Replacements
3/5
Pretty good album that I have never heard before today. It has some nice punk vibes without being too over the top. A nice variety of songs to keep things going. Not bad, it's something that I should have heard when I was younger but didn't have the chance.
3/5
Chill album that I have never heard before. It is very creative and different from what I was expecting. Some great lyrics and interesting music that uses a lot of instruments. I enjoyed this one and would definitely put some of these songs on a chill playlist.
Amy Winehouse
2/5
It's an alright album obviously she is a great singer but the style and music just doesn't do anything for me. I'm sure it's ground breaking and all that. The beats are not terrible, it's just made for someone besides me to enjoy. Tragic how her life went, no one deserves to die like she did.
Waylon Jennings
4/5
Great country album, this is what I think of when I think country music. Excellent vocals and music without being over the top twangy, not modern pop country. I feel like this is legit and he is singing from a real perspective. I am not a big country fan but this is really nice, easy to listen to with great beats. This feels like something I could listen to again and enjoy. The lyrics seem inspired too from a time when music was made differently.
Paul Simon
2/5
Pretty good Paul Simon but I can't imagine that it is many people's favorite album of his. It's pretty standard fare for early 80's Paul. Some nice music and vocals but nothing that really blew me away. Nothing catchy that I found myself singing along or nodding my head to. I prefer his earlier work and the Graceland album that came out a few years after this one.
Arctic Monkeys
2/5
It's not bad, a lot of catchy tunes. The vocals kind of get stale, I don't know what it is, maybe the effect that was applied. Sounds like he is singing on a walkie talkie. Other than that I enjoyed it but it's not something that I would go back to.
Solomon Burke
4/5
I have only heard the hit song 'Cry to Me' from this album before today. That song is great but there are a lot of other great songs on the album too. I thought 'Won't You Give Him (One More Chance)' was a great song too. Great beats and his voice is very smooth, the lyrics are good too. Definitely enjoyed this one and will be listening to it again.
Aimee Mann
3/5
Pretty chilled out album. Reminds me of Lilith Fair artists from the 90's. Great lyrics and vocals with the expected musical accompaniment. I have never heard of her before today so I didn't really know what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised. It's a little weird that she didn't become more popular in the 90's, seems like there should have been a couple of hits on this album.
Wilco
2/5
Easy to listen to mellow rock with a country vibe. Not bad but I'm not sure it's really my thing. Some nice beats and the vocals are nice but it doesn't really strike me as something that I am into. I wouldn't seek it out but I don't regret listening. These songs would be great to add to a chill music mix.
LL Cool J
3/5
Very cool album that I have not actually heard before today. I remember hearing the hit songs when I was young and I remember the Mama Said Knock You Out video on MTV. Brings back some great memories and I think the lyrics and beats are great. I'm sure I will listen to the hits on this album again but probably not the whole thing again.
Thelonious Monk
3/5
Some nice jazz that I really enjoyed. It's mellow and has a nice beat. Not the experimental type jazz that is hard to tap your foot to. Seems like something good to put on when you are doing some kind of intellectual activity where you don't want vocals. Never heard this album before today but I will be listening to it again.
Kate Bush
3/5
Mega hit song that I remember hearing back in the day and also on Stranger Things. The rest of the album has a great vibe and unique vocal delivery. The music is great especially considering when this came out. It seems to stand out from others in this time period. I had not heard this whole album before today but I enjoyed it and will be listening to it again.
Christina Aguilera
2/5
It's alright, just kind of standard pop music from the early 2000's. There are a few big hit songs that most people alive at that time will be familiar with. Some other songs are good too and follow a similar pop formula. Not bad but it's not good either. Probably not something I would listen to again.
The White Stripes
3/5
Music and vocal are really great with a unique style. Some big hit songs on this one that are probably embedded in pop culture enough to have heard them without listening to the album. It's good stuff but isn't really my thing. I can see how someone ten years younger than me would have this as one of their top albums but I was probably just a little too old when it came out.
Cypress Hill
4/5
I remember some people I knew had this album. They were much cooler than I or my friends were. When Cypress Hill came to town they went to the concert and came to school the next day wearing tour shirts. The principle of the school made them turn them inside out because there were cannabis leaves on the shirts. The shirts were allegedly made from hemp making them seem that much cooler. I really wish I went to a show like that, it must have been legendary.
I really like this album. Great beats and excellent lyrical delivery. It's very unique and hits we with some serious nostalgia. This isn't an album that I will get tired of. It comes in and out like waves in my life.
The The
3/5
Pretty good pop music. I have never heard of this group before, it was a total unknown when I listened to it. It's very 80's kind of smooth synth pop. I thought it was pretty good and could see myself listening to it again.
The xx
4/5
Excellent album, I really enjoyed it. I have heard some of their other work and liked it too. Overall chill vibe with great vocals and subtle but good music to go along. It's the kind of album that I would listen to the whole thing in a sitting. I actually listened to this one twice because it really suits me.
Mariah Carey
2/5
It's pretty much what I expected. Great vocals, of course, with standard pop beats. A few hit songs that you have probably heard with the others being kind of standard late 90's pop. It's kind of nostalgic listening to this just because the late 90's were pretty awesome. Not sure if I need to listen to it again anytime soon though.
Steely Dan
2/5
It's not my favorite of their albums but not bad. Distinctly Steely Dan, you know it when you hear it. Just not as deep of an album a lot of the songs are really similar which is maybe not bad for everyone. I guess I am spoiled by their other work. Not bad, just not my favorite.
Ella Fitzgerald
4/5
Legendary vocals with really good music backing it up. It's very much old school with a brass section and there are dramatic horn pops or whatever it's called when everyone with a horn blasts it at the same time. Not in a bad way but in a dramatic highlighting the music way. You will know what I mean when you listen to it. The whole album is very nice I listened to it again the next day. I'm sure I will be listening to this many more times.
Eels
3/5
Interesting album that I remember from my youth. A few hit songs but mostly chill oddball music. This is the music that the alt kids at my school listened to. I like the album and it brings back memories. Might not listen to it all the time but every once in a while would be nice.
Primal Scream
3/5
Pretty good sort of electronic rock. I have never heard of them but I really liked it. It's hard to describe because it's not really like anything. Maybe even the word rock is incorrect here. Very full sound with a variety of instruments. The vocals are kind of not significant for me, I was all about the music when listening.
fIREHOSE
2/5
Kind of chilled out rock that sounds like it should have come out earlier than 1989. I have never heard of them but it isn't bad, some variety in the music and lyrics. Nothing really stands out, it might be nice for a party mix so it doesn't distract. Probably wouldn't be high on my list to listen to but I enjoyed it.
Isaac Hayes
3/5
Nice mix of songs. Very smooth and chill listen. I have never heard this before today and I enjoyed it very much. Probably not something that I would gravitate towards but a nice listen when the mood strikes.
The Doors
4/5
Classic album that I have heard many times. It's really good with memorable music and amazing vocals. It's really unique in the style of the music and I really like it. Having said that, I have heard these songs many times due to their popularity and presence in pop culture. Great stuff but I don't really need to listen to it just because of how often I get to hear it in every day life.
Beatles
5/5
Classic Beatles album. There are some really iconic songs here and the whole thing is great as a whole. I don't really have a nostalgic connection to this since I didn't really listen to it as a kid but I can appreciate what a masterpiece it is now.
Goldie
3/5
Nice drum and bass album that I wasn't expecting. It was nice to hear something different today with this really good album. I have not heard of him before today but his story is interesting and the music is really good, if you like d&b. It reminds me of listening to edm in the basement of my friends house smoking weed when I was in my early 20s. Good times.
Jah Wobble's Invaders Of The Heart
3/5
Chilled out sort of new age type music. It's easy to listen to and I enjoyed it. Nothing really stood out to me, it's something I imagine listening to in one of those nature shops that malls had in the 90s. Don't regret listening to it and I could see myself putting this on a chilled out playlist.
Gil Scott-Heron
3/5
Never heard this before today. It's pretty chilled out nice music with some great lyrics. Seems kind of political in the message. Nice beats with some other spacey synth work that is really nice. I wouldn't mind listening to this again.
The Fall
1/5
I thought this album was kind of lame. I'm sure he is pushing the envelope or whatever but it just isn't my thing. I don't really like the lyrical style, but the music isn't terrible. Overall I don't care to listen to it again.
The Cars
4/5
Really good album! I didn't realize how many songs from this album I have heard before even though I have never actually listened to the album itself. Lots of hits with the unique vocal style and music you would expect. The three songs from the album that I had not head before were good too kind of in the same style but maybe more experimental. I will be listening to this one again as a whole album.
Incredible Bongo Band
4/5
Very cool stuff, not as bongo heavy as I thought it would be. It's some very nice covers of popular songs and I'm guessing some new ones. Very groovy album, nice beats to tap along to without being overbearing. Great horn section too without being over done. The whole album was really a pleasure and it an instant addition to my favorite albums list.
Run-D.M.C.
3/5
It's weird to listen to this album today, forty years later. Hip hop has come so far that this sounds kind of simplistic and slow but at the time is was super cool and ground breaking. Someone had to start it up. I'm listening to the highlights again now as I'm writing this and the beats and pacing of the lyrics seem crazy slow. It's really interesting to hear how things have changed.
Todd Rundgren
2/5
Never heard of this one. It's kind of weird and maybe experimental or something like that. I can see why I have not heard this before today, because it doesn't really appeal to me. I feel like this is some cutting edge stuff in the 70s that didn't really become anything. It's avant-garde I guess. Kind of nice in some places but didn't really hold my attention. Not terrible but not something I'm going to listen to again.
B.B. King
4/5
Really good blues album. The guitar work is some of the best, it's amazing to think that this was recorded live because it seems perfect. I really enjoyed this one and have added it to my favorites.
The Dictators
2/5
Not terrible like I thought it would be. It's kind of a joke album I'm guessing. The music was not bad and the lyrics were kind of funny. Not something I would listen to often but I didn't hate listening to it this one time.
Kraftwerk
4/5
Some old school techno. It's really interesting to listen to this considering the limitations they had on drum machines and samplers. Really innovative stuff, not done by others at this time, or at least not done to this level. It's good stuff and I'm a fan of their work, it's brilliant. Kind of strange but still I think brilliant.
Taylor Swift
3/5
My significant other loves Taylor Swift so I have heard this album many times. It's not bad, probably some of my favorite of her works. I am honestly not a fan of type of music and had it not been for her I would never listen to it.
4/5
Really good album that was already on my favorites list. I think it's great with a unique sound and catchy beats. It all fits together nicely and is an easy listen. I'm sure I will be listening to this many more times.
Janet Jackson
3/5
Some good early Janet Jackson music. I remember all the hits from this album from back in the day. These were popular at school dances. It wasn't really my thing so I never really listened to this album before today. Not bad, it follows sort of that early 90's pop formula all the way through. Nothing really unexpected but that isn't necessarily a bad thing.
Manic Street Preachers
4/5
Another great album that I already have on my favorites. I never listened to this when I was young, for some reason it never crossed my path. The whole thing is really nice to listen to and not too aggressive some songs are pretty chilled out. There are a lot of interesting sonic delights mixed into the nice vocals. I've heard it many times but I still enjoy it and I'm sure I will continue to put it on every now and again.
Anthrax
3/5
This is something my older sister would listen to when we were young. I thought it was some super heavy stuff. Now I think it's pretty amazing and I can hear a lot of thrash metal ground being broken. Some of these songs definitely inspired the late 90's metal bands that I loved. It's a great album that brought back some good memories.
OutKast
4/5
Outcast was super popular at this time and this was a great album. They were getting tons of radio play everywhere, kind of a crossover hit. It's good stuff and I really enjoyed it back then and still like it. Not the kind of thing I would listen to all the time but still exceptional vocally and musically.
Einstürzende Neubauten
1/5
Strange industrial sounding composition. Not sure if I would really call it music since it is very different. It's interesting what they were able to put together and I suppose it is nice to explore the medium and all that but I didn't really like it very much. It just seemed annoying like someone jackhammering while you are trying to read.
The The
3/5
I'm pretty sure that I have never heard any of these songs before today. It's really good with nice vocals and music. It's pretty laid back and would be nice to listen to in a more relaxed setting. Also a nice variety of songs that don't get stale. I've listened to it a few times now and I really enjoy it. I'm not sure why I never heard it before today.
Fatboy Slim
3/5
Some really nice EDM that is not too aggressive. Great mix of beats and themes throughout the album. I can't think of anything that dragged on or I didn't like, the whole thing maintains the energy. I don't know that I have ever actually heard this album until today and I think it's great, will be listening to this one many more times.
Soft Cell
3/5
Pretty good new wave type music. Maybe it fits in the synth pop category. I like it although it got a bit tiresome by the end. Good beats and vocals seems like it would have been pretty innovative in the early 80s. Not something that I would listen to all the time but it was not bad.
Animal Collective
4/5
Excellent album that I have heard many times. "My Girls" is one of my favorite songs to test speakers out with. The album is not too aggressive being more relaxed and easy to listen to. It's not real distracting either, it's great to put on when you are doing other activities. It's been one of my favorites and will continue to get a lot of plays from me.
The Pogues
4/5
Great album with lots of good songs. The lyrics and vocal delivery are excellent. The guy was really insanely good at this. I don't think I have ever actually listened to this whole album but its great from beginning to end. Really enjoyed it and will listen again.
Guided By Voices
2/5
Lots of short little songs, not bad, some nice variety. I'm guessing it's some type of experimental group. Probably would have been pretty cool to hear this back in the mid 90's when I was young would be more open to it. Not bad but not something I will exactly be looking forward to hearing again.
Björk
2/5
It's Bjork, what else can I really say. She has a very distinct way of making any lyric fit into the song with the addition of runs and adding extra syllables. Not bad but by this time in her career I am kind of tired of it. This album doesn't really bring anything new for me.
The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion
2/5
Kind of hard to explain this one but it seems kind of punkish experimental sort of stuff. It's totally different from anything I have heard before, not terrible but not something that I would put on and jam to. It's also not something that I might find relaxing or chilled out. It's interesting but not for me.
Kate Bush
3/5
Distinctly Kate Bush, I guess maybe that should have been obvious but if you have heard her music you know she has a distinct style and this album explores exactly that. It fits in that pattern of songwriting and singing, kind of hard to describe but I don't mean it in a bad way. That is just her style and she is good at it. Not bad but for me I don't think I would listen to it very often, there are just options I prefer in this genre.
Kanye West
1/5
Some of the songs on this album are really good but I have a really hard time enjoying them knowing what kind of person Kanye is. I just don't like him as a person and it causes me to not like his music even though I'm sure it's not bad.
George Jones
4/5
I have not heard this album before today, this genre isn't usually my thing but this guy can really sing. It's very nice, what I would consider traditional country music. Great lyrics and music too not too twangy, just right in my opinion. I can see why he is on the list of albums. This is the kind of thing I am hoping to get from this experience. Something I would not have listened to any other way but really enjoyed.
Brian Eno
3/5
I am not familiar with his work at all but it's not bad. Has kind of a nice early 70's vibe with what I would call 'wacky' but I'm sure at the time it was just experimental sounds. It's not overdone though, it just adds some flavor. So I guess it's not bad but not something that I think I would listen to often. It is pretty chilled out though so I could see myself adding a song or two to a chilled out play list.
Buena Vista Social Club
4/5
Great album, right away I remembered hearing the first song before and it really set the mood for the rest. The songs are great with excellent vocals and music. Sort of Cuban sounding beats. I'm not sure what they are saying due to my Spanish being remedial at best, but you don't need to know what they are saying to be able to enjoy the sounds. Like I said, it's great, I really enjoyed it and will be listening to it again.
Ryan Adams
2/5
Interesting sort of twangy rock music. I've never heard this before and it's not bad, kind of a country rock fusion in my opinion. Nothing really stood out about it, just kind of background music to me. Would probably be nice to listen to on a camp out or something like that.
Lana Del Rey
2/5
I have never heard this album before today. My girlfriend is a fan and owns several of her albums but this is not one of them. It's pretty standard Lana Del Rey music. No big hits that blew me away but plenty of good songs with here signature style. It's probably not something that I would listen to all the time but I enjoyed it this time around.
Bauhaus
2/5
Never heard of these guys before today. It's kind of opera rock something the goth kids at my school would have listened to. It's not bad some of the music is really good. Nothing really struck home for me though. Maybe if I had hung out with the goth kids at my school and given this a chance things would be different.
Dolly Parton
2/5
Nice Dolly Parton collaboration. Some of the songs were pretty good but if felt mostly like filler material or stuff for hardcore fans. Most of it kind of faded away into background music. Probably not something I would listen to again.
Public Image Ltd.
2/5
Never heard this album before today. I thought it was not great even though the singer is famous and all that. It's still kind of a genre of music that I don't really like that much and never go into. Don't regret listening to it but I don't care to hear it again.
T. Rex
2/5
Some nice rock music that I have not heard. I'm only familiar with the bang a gong song but this music is in the same style. Kind of early rock. Nothing real amazing but it would be nice for background music when you are doing something active.
Herbie Hancock
4/5
This is one of my favorite Herbie Hancock albums, I actually own a copy. It's kind of whimsical in some parts but a nice jam that flows from song to some touching on various themes. The music builds up into something amazing in my opinion pretty brilliant stuff. I have heard it many times but still enjoy it and I was really excited to see it was the album of the day. I'll probably listen to it a couple more times just because it's perfect for listen to while I'm at work.
KISS
3/5
This is the first time I've actually listened to this album and I was surprised to see it was only 34 minutes long. There are some of their big hits as well as some other great songs that I have never heard before. It's not bad but I suspect their secret was in the live performance. Never saw them live but know several people that are obsessed. Too bad Ace Frehley just passed away, he seemed to really rock. I'm not exactly a fan but the album was not bad and probably rocked. I suspect the things I don't really like are Paul and Gene's personalities. They both seem a bit much.
Beck
4/5
Great album that I actually own. It's a little more laid back compared to his other work. I think the lyrics and music are excellent and are great to listen to when I'm working. It's not too distracting but very pleasant to listen to. Several hit songs that people may have heard through pop culture but the other songs are really good too. It's a great album to listen to from beginning to end.
Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five
3/5
Pretty good early hip hop. It's kind of weird to listen to now since hip hop has come so far in the past 30 or 40 years. So different from the modern stuff. This album is something I would listen to just to get some perspective on the genre and it's evolution which has been pretty amazing to listen to over my lifetime. I kind of wonder if these guys knew what they were starting when they made their first beats and lyrics so long ago.
Sly & The Family Stone
4/5
This is really good stuff. I've not heard this before today and there is a ton of variety with some nice funk all the way to a weird western song. Some songs are higher energy and some are pretty laid back. It's also kind of long compared to albums from this time period. I'm going to add this to my favorites since I can see myself listening to it many more times.
The Darkness
2/5
Wow, the falsetto is unbelievable! So much falsetto, it's like opera rock with way over the top vocals. Pretty amazing that the guy can hit these super high notes. The music is good but nothing that really blew me away, the think that struck me is, like I said, the vocals. It's really crazy stuff. Never heard of them before and I'm not sure it's something I would ever listen to again but I won't forget it anytime soon.
Paul McCartney
2/5
It's just kind of alright. I was expecting something amazing when I saw the album of the day was Paul McCartney but it's kind of a boring album with the exception of maybe four songs. Most of the songs were forgettable with generic music and beats. Obviously 'Maybe I'm Amazed' is a good song with a catchy tune but that is the high point. Probably won't listen to this one again.
The Divine Comedy
3/5
Never heard of this group but they have some really good lyrics and music. It's a little weird that it came out in 1996 because it makes me think of the 70's for some reason. I did enjoy the album listening to it several times trying to figure out what was going on. It's a great listen that is kind of world pop type music. Hard to describe but I like their use of various out of the ordinary for pop instruments.
Primal Scream
4/5
Pretty chilled out kind of synth popish music. Maybe it kind of has a dance vibe to it as well. I'm sure I haven't heard it before but some of the beats are familiar like it was sampled for another song. It's good stuff and I'm sure I will listen to it again. I'm sorry I didn't listen to it back in the day because it seems like something I would have loved as a young person.
Deee-Lite
3/5
Good album, I'm sure that I have never heard it before today. I was kind of jamming out thinking that some of the songs sounded familiar and then 'Groove is in the Heart" came on and I was like "Oh yeah". It all came together.
It's a good album, kind of dance pop sort of stuff. Pretty much what you would expect for a 1990 pop album.
Goldfrapp
3/5
Never heard this before, it's totally new to me. Seems pretty good but hard to describe. Kind of artsy electric folk music. It's really good, very unique and interesting music and vocals. The vocals are kind of ethereal and haunting they go really well with the unique music.
2/5
This was a super popular album the year I graduated high school. You would think it would be very memorable and a few songs are but mostly what I remember is the Gallagher brothers being next level jerks to each other and their fans. I think fame they received from their first few albums destroyed their minds at a fairly young age and they were forever incapable of operating in normal society.
Listening to the music now it actually seems pretty lame. It's crazy how little staying power it had considering how popular it was.
Dexys Midnight Runners
2/5
This is really different stuff, kind of whimsical at some points. The music and lyrics remind me of theatre kids in high school for some reason. It's not bad but the vocal seem kind of weird enough for me to not take it seriously. It's not bad, just not something that is for me.
Emerson, Lake & Palmer
4/5
I love this album and own a copy of it. I've listened to it many times and really enjoy it. The album artwork is top notch as well. The music is kind of funky psychedelic without being annoying. It's well composed and I love listening to the album as a whole. It's pretty chilled out but still has some catchy beats. I'm sure I will listen to this many more times.
Antony and the Johnsons
2/5
Kind of experimental sounding operatic music. Very different vocals and not necessarily in a good way. It's like extreme vibrato in every verse. Reminds me of the lion singing about how he is the king of the forest in the Wizard of Oz. The music isn't bad with a variety of sounds and beats, nice usage of brass. The music isn't enough to put it over the top for me though. I probably won't listen to this again and will only remember it for how weirdly bad it was.
Dr. Dre
4/5
Really good album that I have heard many times. I was in high school when this came out and it made a pretty big impact. It was frequently played by people I knew and the videos on MTV were very popular and memorable. This whole album holds up really well after all this time there are a lot of great lyrics and beats that are really classic at this point.
Bruce Springsteen
3/5
Never heard this whole album before, it's really good. Kind of chilled out with a bit of depression mixed in. The music and vocals are fantastic. Not a ton of variety to the songs but that seems fine to me. It definitely has a vibe to it and I like it. This will be one I put on again sometime.
Jane Weaver
3/5
Never heard of this one. It's pretty good, sort of ethereal and new age-ish. Nice vocals and music that is super chilled out. Not sure what she is singing about but it fits with the music nicely. Not a huge variety of music but that isn't bad because the album really flows and seems like a cohesive work. I have not heard of them before today but I'm going to add it to my favorites so I can listen to it on the HiFi at home.
Baaba Maal
2/5
Reminds me of the Lion King sound track, not in a bad way though. If you like the Lion King world music then you will like this album. It's really good but there isn't a lot of variety and I have no idea what he is singing about which isn't necessarily a bad thing. The guy is super talented and has a great story about his rise to fame, super interesting. I'm not sure I would listen to it again but it was great this one time.
Arcade Fire
4/5
Really good album that I have not heard before. It's kind of pop rock but very chilled out. When I was listening to it I was guessing it came out in the 90's so I was way off. The music is a little bit ethereal with slower beats, it's really nice. Nothing ground breaking, nothing that I would really rock out to but just good music that is easy to listen to. I listened to it at work several times, it's perfect for that. I'm going to put this on my favorites because I plan to listen to it many more times.
Japan
3/5
Kind of some 80's style pop that came out in the late 70's. I think there is a little synth mixed in, it's pretty good if you like synth pop. It's pretty light on the synth though. Seems pretty catchy and easy to listen to. I am move familiar with their later work but this is a good album and I'm glad I listened to it.
Echo And The Bunnymen
3/5
Pretty cool chilled out punk type music, I'm not really sure how to describe it and it reminds me of something but I can't but my finger on it. A lot of the songs have a similar vibe but there is a nice variety and I think I like the album as a whole. It seems like a cohesive work. The vocals are the only thing that kind of wears on me, not that he is bad but it seems dramatic at times. Might just be a product of the period it came out though.
Deerhunter
3/5
Never heard of this before today. It's kind of folk poetry set to music. Very nice the whole thing works very well. The music is well produced and full without being overbearing. It's extremely chilled out and really easy for me to listen to while working. I'm adding this to my favorites so I can give it another listen later at home on the HiFi.
Neil Young
3/5
His lyrics are great and the music is well done but for some reason I am just not a fan. I can totally see why people love his work due to the level of lyrical and vocal creativity but I think it's just not my thing. It might be the sort of western nature of the music that I can't get into.
Cream
3/5
Some great blues guitar work and great vocals. When I was listening to it I kept forgetting that it was just a trio, it sounds like more. There is a really nice vibe to it all. One big hit song stands out but the rest of the album is really good too. Very mellow and easy to listen to. I kind of forget about this band although I'm familiar with their work and the lead man. I'll have to put this one more often.
King Crimson
4/5
Excellent album. I have heard it several times before but this time I feel like I really gave it a chance and it finally clicked for me. There is a lot going on with the music, many different instruments are used to create a really interesting maybe a little whimsical at times work. It feels really cohesive too with the songs leading nicely from one to another even though all the songs have a unique vibe to them. This would be something I will put on at home when I have time to chill out and listen to a record.
Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band
1/5
Very unusual but not as bad as I thought it would be. I noticed this is one of the universally disliked albums on the site and was expecting the worst but I feel like there have been albums on here that are super experimental noise that I couldn't stand. This isn't that bad, I would never listen to it again but it didn't make me feel like I was going crazy.
Also, I think that might be a carp on the cover not a trout. I'm sure that is the point and there is some meaning there but I don't get it.
