Good rocky thing, a few hits already known
nothing to rave about - clearly an influence on what followed but it's not blowing my trumpet
Just totes amazeballs, sets the feeling for the rest of the day. The gloom of the setting, offset by the bounce in the feet - noice.
more of an ep, classic disco, unlikely to even remember the band name though
perhaps unsurprisingly more bluesy than i'd have expected
so, so meh. barely noticed it was on. i get that it must have been great at the time, and influenced lots, but it felt like a pale shadow
didn't realise the title track was sooooo long...
Heavier than expected, been out of metal for loong time. Would def relisten
annoying voice, and just boring music. not my bag :/
probably good c&w, but not my cuppa
just couldn't get excited about it, tuned out fairly quickly
impressed i didn't actually recognise station to station - clearly not a greatest hits album entry :D
Classic. Random weirdness and gold standard all-time greats.
Fine guitary noodling, but tails off to boredom
Metally. Has the silly you suffer on it.
I'm supposed to like this, but it didn't excite, didn't offend.
The basis is good, but tbh i find the click style jarring - just like the english mentioned in The Click Song ;)
classic britpop origins album
probably technically brilliant, but just not fun to listen to.
One of the key britpop albums - loooove it
Very pleasant, would listen to again. Want to give it 3.5
It's like... well, morrissey. ticks the boxes. another one i'd like to give 3.5
hyper-condensed slice of rock and roll
I just get Joni Mitchell - it just bores me... maybe needs more concentration that I possess
ok follow up to holy bible, much more accessible but not so powerful.
nice, but a touch too loungy for my taste : 2.5
I enjoyed this back in the day, though now it's hard to get rid of the image the band has now. A sort of brit-pop-rock-lite, nothing offensive - and recorded at Parr St.
industrial pomp. two versions of life is life are a bonus
forgetable late 60s joni-mitchell-like
You know what? This is actually pretty good. Another 3.5* candidate
classic debut rock from clearly non-debut stock
On the good side of ok, though a bit whiny
Just a monumental: why? I'm sure the lyrics are fascinating and complex, the style wonderful and meandering - but man, that voice just grates on you after a while :/
It's no Brothers in Arms, but still perfectly good catchy nonsense
Really really good. Not sure how this rolled past me 10 years ago
Feels like a grown-up version of ABBA, more contemplative, less fun. Which this is - less fun.
I'll never choose this, but totally appreciate the quality
Such perfect 70s pop - the rhythms, harmonies, and just plain and simple fun.
Starts off powerfully, but wanders off toward the end. 3.5
All the edges feel worn away from U2 by the time this came out (pun not intended). Similar with later Coldplay, the initial originality has faded, leaving generic stadium pop rock. Some excellent tunes, of course, just... the overall package feels a little hollow.
A&A were my first intro to punk - still as fun today
One of the best of all time. Mix of styles, pacing, and just all round greatness.
Nice and pretty, but didn't deliver enough to stand out
Lovely jubbly. A proper piece of 'origins of rock'
Just too many pan pipes :/
Always love the voice and style - and Alison is a solid gold classic. Nice.
Much more varied, and smarter than I'd expected. Metal mixed with random techno, d&b - will relisten
Sort of like it, but sounds like a U2 tribute band who could do better.
Decent quality guilty pleasure. But if i think of him, i need to listen to something else.
Classic Leonard. But... I prefer the more developed voice, varied music. This feels like a preview of the main show.
I would have been all up on this in the 90s - feels a bit stuck in time.
Maybe I'm too close-minded on 'world music', but I found this nice-but-meh
Gravel. Lots and lots of gravel
would have loved this as a late-teen emo - but i never was one, so meh.
Couldn't finish - sounded like a bad example of tedious noodly lounge-bar jazz
decent fun, french industrial growling
the 80s were not good for leonard. a couple of simply painful pop overlays. and his voice still has too much clarity. where's the gravel?
grew up on this - feels like a comfy 70s pop sofa
Yeah. I know it's classic, formative, etc, but 22min track to start? It just slipped into background mode, and I barely even noticed the change into the following tracks.
Love love love love love.
