Was so disappointed when I clicked and saw that it was literally 69 songs that I was going to give it a 1. But after listening its actually great, really funny, witty, cleverly done, makes you smile. Recognised 'The a Book Of Love', maybe from a film.
Nirvana similarities. Like Nirvana, The Stooges and early californian punk all rolled into one. These guys were just before Nirvana too, so seems like they paved the way but then Nirvana did it much better. This feels like a 4 just because it clearly was paving the way and I'm surprised by how much I enjoyed it.
Assume this is gonna be funk & soul? Hopefully, could be good. Wow ok not wheat I was expecting. First track is mad electric guitar skillzzzz a la Clapton, second track is a like a mad country-ish soul vibe. Overall is very electric guitar heavy, kinda Hendrix-esque. It's all good, prob a 2.5, never massively been my kinda genre. Maybe 2 cos just not that arsed about it.
British Power metal, can see how Ozzy/Black Sabbath influenced these guys. Also motor head vibes. Yeh dope, 4 stars (just about...)
Sounds waaaaay ahead of its time. Right from the first track. Some songs sound like something you'd hear on the radio now. Can hear some Beatles influence. Decent songs though overall. I recognised 'Without You' and 'Coconut'. Struggled whether to give this a 3 or a 4 cos its not massively my kinda genre but as a whole album it is really well done, feels like a bit of an artistic masterpiece. So, 4/5
Decent, some classic tracks. Can see how newer bands like QOTSA were inspired. Easy listening, sometimes a bit psychedelic rock, bit Bowie-ish
Proper OG rock and roll, recognised some tracks, one off Earthed 2. Some beach boys vibes but better. Feel-good
Some beautiful lyrics, nice tunes, not really my bag though as a genre. Reminded me of Simon & garfunkel
Noticed some lyrics that Zach de la Rocha from Rage Against the Machine sampled. Album feels ahead of its time. Chilled, 3 stars.
Classics. Kinda funk jazz soul. 'Contusion' had Thundercat vibes. 'Pastime Paradise' was the track Coolio sampled for Gangsters Paradise. Got a bored after halfway but it picks up again. 'As' is a great track. 3 stars
British Power metal, can see how Ozzy/Black Sabbath influenced these guys. Also motor head vibes. Yeh dope, 4 stars (just about...)
Love Tribe, OG shit. Highlights: Luck of Lucien, Footprints, Bonita Applebum, (Pubic Enemy is about crabs haha), Can I kick it. 5 stars
Yeh alright, not really my bag, so 2 stars, but could've been a 2.5 just for insane guitar skillZZZZ. First track 20 mins long. Could hear how bands like QOTSA have been influenced in some bits
Nice decent, easy listening, no bangers though.
Not really my bag, was gonna rate 1 star but a couple of tracks were better than a 1. Couple good tunes and some good heartfelt lyrics. Seemed ahead of its time. Some sounded like something you'd hear on Earthed 1. 2 stars
Like lounge jazz music. A lot of Miles on the trumpet. Don't really listen to this kinda stuff but it has a real classic/important feel about it, oozes class, undeniable. Boujee. Late night whiskey drinking cigar smoking feel. 4 stars just cos it sounded so classy
Tunes are a bit slower and more spoken word than the Lust For Life album. Still good though, easy listening. I reckon Mark E Smith from The Fall took a lot of inspiration from Iggy after hearing this. 3.5. Gonna bump it up to 4 cos I gave the last Iggy one a 3 when that was 3.5 too
Kinda electronic dance. Not all tracks tho. Dr Pressure a classic. 2nd track was cool chill down tempo. In My Arms another big tube. Had no idea who this guy was or that he was responsible for these tunes. Some Chemical Brothers electronic battle weapon vibes. really enjoyed it. 4/5
Take On Me is a tune ๐ classic. Reminds me of playing GTA Vice City on PS2 when I was like 14. STYG covered this too. You'd have to be pretty cold hearted to not like this kinda 80's music, it's upbeat and feelgood. Defo a 4.
Like early ish indie rock. Tries to be a bit psychedelic at times. Not a fan. Thinking Of Ways was so so bad ๐. Just shite. 1/5
Can tell they're British. At times the riffs sounded a bit like The Lightening Seeds. Pretty average though, some tracks were alright, didn't excite me much. 2/5
Some pretty good tunes, good lyrics. But some shit too. Kinda rock with distorted guitars. Last song instrumental almost a bit Radiohead-ey. 3/5
Decent, I like The Cure. Very slow and dower, melancholy. Not their best album, none of their classics. Can tell it was influential. Can tell Preoccupations we're influenced by them. Not their best album though. 3.5, so i gave it 3.
Iggy Pop class. Probably a 4, defo a high 3. Search and Destroy is a classic.
So, 4/5
Yeh alright, catchy tunes, bit of an earthed 2 vibe. Pump it Up is a great tune. Lipstick Vogue sounded like inspiration for Arctic Monkeys Age of the Understatement. 3/5
First 2 tracks absolute Smooth classics. Was really ready to give this a 4 after the first 2 tracks but because its not massively my genre it dipped to a 3 in the middle and felt more like background music. Decent though, last track real good too. Good late night album. M-people defo took inspiration. 3.5 so rounded up to a 4.
Can see how it's contributed to the evolution of punk. Punk sounds and beats but much mellower, more melodic. Almost a bit Preoccupations - ish. Enjoyed it but didn't quite feel enough for a 4. 3/5
Was so disappointed when I clicked and saw that it was literally 69 songs that I was going to give it a 1. But after listening its actually great, really funny, witty, cleverly done, makes you smile. Recognised 'The a Book Of Love', maybe from a film.
So many classics: Welcome to the Jungle, Paradise City, Sweet Child O'mine'. Classic album. Easily a mid to high 4, bordering a 5. Rounded up to 5.
Heard about this woman previously on an Atmosphere track called 'Idiot' , Slug referenced her in some lyrics haha. Incidentally the first track sounds like it has influenced some of the later atmosphere beats that are more soft/chill. Nice singing and songs but not really my thing at all. So, 2/5
Classic OG rock n roll, with a bit of an 'ahead of its time' twist. Bit of an Eastern hippy psychedelic twist too. Decent. 3/5
Tutti Frutti is a classic tune! Classic blues rock soul kinda stuff. Real entertaining, easy 3, mayb not quite a 4.
Just Prince innit, absolutely class. Super talented and a lot of thought gone into the album design, felt like a story. I was going to just automatically give this a 5 but it's hard because even though I appreciate the class it still isn't ever going to be a regular 'go to' album for me. So, 4/5 but in reality it's like 4.8 ๐
First thought was that Oasis ripped these guys off ๐ Not really my bag though, never been mad for this era of British indie rock. Was gonna give it a 2 but I've gone for 3 cos you can tell it inspired oasis etc
Like a Cuban salsa album. Well entertaining, recognized Mombo Gozon. Album reminded me of GTA Vice City, although this album wasn't actually on the game ๐ 3/5
Really experimental, loads of unique sounds (and maybe samples of day to day sounds?). Kinda genre-less, bit wavy, clearly paved the way for other bands to push the boundaries. Sounds like it would've inspired Bowie. Think it would need a fair few listens to really get into and appreciate it, late night with a drink and really focus on it. Hard to appreciate after 1 listen
Absolutely CLASSIC riffs. Whole Lotta Love is so iconic. Also some more bluesy sounding stuff which I liked. 4/5
Was ready to give this a 2 at the beginning because it really just isn't my time of music at all, but it was actually genius, some clever lyrics and concepts. So, 3/5
OG British garage /dub. Never knowingly heard any of this guys tracks before. Bandelero Desperado sounded like the birth of garage/jungle. Definitely paved the way for Chase & Status, even Dizzee Rascal and early grime etc. Actually really enjoyed it tbf. 3/5, cos it doesn't sound classic enough to be a 4
Was surprised to see that it's from 1969. Sounds like the kind of folk music you'd hear from America from much more recent years. Not hugely my kind of thing, could appreciate it though. Reminded me a bit of Lera Lynn but didn't enjoy as much. Did like the bits that sounded like traditional Irish folk music though
Superstition a massive tune. Great tracks. Easily a 4
Actually massively enjoyed this, recognised that they've influenced more modern bands, but also really liked that you can hear the real American Blues-ey and rock n roll influences, and the other instruments like piano and harmonica. 4/5
Really interesting sound, immediately impressed by how it sounds like a fusion of American early rock n roll, country music and early punk like The Undertones. 2nd track sounded like reggae influence. Also got BOB Dylan vibes. Really interesting, enjoyed it. 3/5
Absolute class, such good musicians. I still don't properly understand jazz enough to appreciate it to its full worth, but this was mint. Oozes class. 4/5
Got some bangers on, and 'I'm Looking Through You' is easily one of my favourite Beatles tunes, so it's an easy 4/5.
Sounds very 80s,very synthey. Good tunes. As a whole album it didn't feel as much of a masterpiece as Purple Rain, but I actually enjoyed the tunes. The last song The Cross was an absolute genius tune. Replayed it a few times. 4/5 overall just cos that last tune was so good.
Very experimental, almost a bit Beatles-esque. Really not my bag though. 2/5
Like African traditional music, bit of a more samba Latin-American sounding vibe going on too, especially compared to stuff like Ali Farka Toure. Decent still. 3/5.
Immediately sounds like a bunch of white dudes robbing black music of the time. Soul, blues, OG R&B etc (like Otis Redding). It's good music, but can't help but feel a bit like it isn't original. Developed though as the album went on, became more folly and Bon Dylan-esque, some good sounds. Jemima Surrender was decent. 3. 5 / 5.
Kinda feels like English female Nirvana grunge. But post-punk at times too, also with some country/blues-esque vibes. Really enjoyed this and really wasn't expecting to. 4/5.
So hard to rate. Some songs are classics, and some are absolute shite, but still somehow classics (e.g: Girls). And the black cultural appropriation is embarrassing (he says 'Aks' instead of 'Ask'). But then Fight For Your Right is such a classic, fuses punk with a more hip-hop style. Overall, as a whole album, pretty bang average, in fact not even that great. And yet because it has some classic tracks it has to get at least a 3.
(I listened to the original album, not the anniversary edition). Good start, Right Here Right Now is a ridiculous classic. 5 star track. Same goes for the 2nd track, Rockerfeller Skank. Ridiculous. ๐. Gangster Tripping a classic too. And Praise You is such a classic. Absolutely frothing ๐ there doesn't seem any way that you wouldn't give this album 5 stars.
Really enjoyed this. Could tell how they've influenced a hole genre since. 4/5
Funkadelic, exactly what it says on the tin ๐ groovy, Prince-esque vibes. Decent, OG shit, real enjoyable. 3/5.
Decent. Can tell its from the same era as all the old west coast punk that I like, but with the basslines it's a bit more like Fugazi etc, and it kinda has folk music influences at times. Definitely also tool inspiration from The Doors. 3/5
Had no idea that Otis was the first one to write and perform 'Respect' - massive tune. Feels like a 4, feels so classy and original. Damn, every track is a classic, Respect, My Girl and Satisfaction. Gotta be a 5/5, its an album full of classics
Alright, listenable, but just really not my bag. Slow and dreary but not in a way I could appreciate. Not one song stood out. Lyrics seemed quite niche/specific anecdotes about the singers life. 2 /5
Really unique, funky, souly. Genre called Afrobeat. Proper feel good, real good energy, could listen to it all day. Gotta be a 4 just cos it's out there and it's mint ๐ค
Solid start with Immigrant Song. By the 2nd song it feels like a solid 4. Love the blues / blue-grass influence of Led Zep, almost a bit slide guitar. And can tell how they've progressed through the last 2 albums to this one. 4/5
Listening to first track and scrolling through the track list, it already feels like it's probably gonna be a 5. Never listen to Bowie routinely, but I still massively appreciate that he was a genius. I think, to match how I've reviewed other albums I'll give this a 4, cos even though I can appreciate it and there were classic tracks, its not something that'd make my regular rotation. 4/5
I've never really given The Smiths any time, I know the classics but that's it. I never really felt that they were my kind of thing, but after listening to this I do get it, can see how people do rate them and connect with them. Kinda arty, lyrics are about struggling with the paradox of life. Gonna rate it 3 cos I do appreciate it but I'd need to give it more time to appreciate it fully, probably rate it higher if I listened to it more. 3/5
Some pretty cool Blues Rock sounding tracks, almost a little bit Eric Clapton style. Can even hear how QOTSA Villains album had some similar sounds. Layla is an absolute classic, but this isnt generally my thing, so, 3/5. Edit: just googled it and it's Eric Clapton's band hahhaha ๐
First track an absolute classic banger. Few tracks in and it feels like a 4, I know a few of the tracks already and rate them. Gettin towards the end and I've added loads of tracks to my playlist, I'm torn whether it's a 4 or a 5 just cos I've enjoyed it so much. Prob a 5.
Hard to define the genre, kinda jazz inspired rock, almost sounded a bit samba to begin with. No issues with it, enjoyed it to start with, not that bothered about it as a whole album though. 2/5
First track not my bag, sounds like some soundtrack off a drag show ๐ very Canal Street. 80s sounding disco synth pop stuff. 3rd track better, sounds a bit more like chilled ibiza type stuff. Got early The Prodigy vibes too though, but far more chill. I wanna like this cos its Prodigy-esque but I just can't get into it. If prob appreciate it way more if I gave it some more listens, or if I'd had a few drinks ๐ Gotta be a 2.
Liked it, wasn't expecting to. Punky, maybe post-punk. 3/5
3/5. Real 80s, synthy, a bit Gary Newman-esque, enjoyable but nothin stood out especially.
Immediately feelin this, neo soul, bit like D'Angelo, but Stevie Wonder-ish but more smooth. Feels classy, decent chill tunes. Tailed off a bit in the middle and at the end, went a bit wet. Start was still real decent tho. 4/5.
Enjoyable for sure, energetic, decent vibes. As a side note: can see so much how Jake Bugg just unashamedly ripped off / copied Bob Dylan ๐. Easy a 3, prob would be a 3.5 in reality
First track Personality Crisis was used on an Earthed mtb dvd, reminds me of that, class ๐. I like it, early punk stuff, feels like a 3.5. Prob rate it a 3.
First track serious classic ๐ Natural Woman a classic too. I think a lot of wanna-be feminists need to listen to Good To Me As I Am To You, that's some powerful shit right there. So classic that it seems rude not to give it a 4.
Interesting start, with a monologue. The music isn't really my thing though at all, like old school American slow swing. Would have given a 1 but that seems harsh cos it's easy to listen to, kinda unique. So, 2/5.
Halfway through and so far feels like a 1. Just not that interested in it. Maybe a 2, couple tracks were OK, sounded like something off the end of an Earthed dvd. 2/5
1st track's a classic. Not really my kind of music but it's got some cool sounds, experimental, some decent structured songs. I imagine influenced Thundercat a bit, 80s sounding guitar/keyboard stuff. Prob a hit ahead of its time. 3/5
Psychedelic rock, not massively my genre but can appreciate it. Prob inspired Black Sabbath to a degree. And bits of Chemical Brothers. Was also surprised to hear that the riff on Down Through The Night was clearly ripped of by the Dead Kennedys for Holiday in Cambodia. The lyrics in The Awakening obv inspired The Matrix films ๐. Orgone Accumulator was used in an Earthed film, decent. So much has been influenced by this, hard to give it a bad rating, even though its not my bag. 4/5.
Erm. 1 or 2? ๐Yeh 1. Just nothin decent about it. Sounds like some pop producer paid a young girl to sing like Prince.
Experimental, interesting sounds. Heard of them before but never really listened. Knew the tracks North American Scum and Someone Great. Someone Great is actually a really lovely track, listened to it a few times over. Overall all enjoyable, easy 3.
Like orginal ska punk. Reggae beats. Really decent, can tell it influenced a lot of stuff that followed it. Couple of famous tracks in there too, like Too Much Too Young. Prob wouldbt go out of my way to listen to it again, but can appreciate its significance. 3/5
No way, first track Sex Beat was an instrumental track that I really liked off Earthed 2, but that version was by Two Lone Swordsman. Had no idea this was the orginal. Sounds kinda like 80s punk but mixed with blues. Really enjoying it. 4
Not my bag at all. Wasn't really interested in any of the tracks
Mr Blue Sky great tune, but this is so much not my type of music ๐ so, 2/5
Bit weird, kinda like soft rocky punk, tiny bit grungey. Maybe with more listens it'd be a 3, seems like something I could get into, but I think just a 2 in reality.
Just looking at the track list before listening this is likely a 5 ๐ looks like it's got a lot of bangers.
I know of these guys but don't think I've ever listened to them. Heard only good things. This really isn't for me though. Appreciate that it's a bit different and therefore maybe less accessible on first listen. Feels like a 2 so far. Recognise the track Rebellion. But even listening to that I'm just really not bothered about it, actually it's pretty shite. Not sure how these guys are well rated. Might even give it a 1.
So 80s ๐๐ the frontman can't sing for shit, so there's that ๐. Love Action is a good track and Don't You Want Me is a banger, but still, can't base the whole album off that. Prob worth a 2 as an album.
First album, released the same year as paranoid. Very different to their other stuff, still some real decent tracks tho. More bluesy, less heavy. 3/5
Alright, just pop. First track was catchy. Prob a 2. Also, feels like Billie Eilish prob tried to sing like this girl.
Kinda like OG punk, surprisingly some tracks I recognised that wouldn't have said was theirs. Like 'Fever' . Enjoyable, 3
I fucking hate U2 ๐๐๐. Not sure why, bonno seems a prick and its also not my type of music. This is the first time I've properly given the music the time of day and i was hoping that it'd help me understand why people like them, but it is actually just shite. Maybe a 2 at very best, but prob a 1.
Pretty cool, almost chilled ibiza-ish, like late night minimal electronic stuff. Easily a 3.
First track is the maddest shit Ive ever heard. So weird and genre bending but it kinda works, absolutely bizarre though. Thinking a 3 so far.
Obviously a 5. One of my first ever albums and just so many ridiculous tunes. Actually also think this is one of my favourite albums of all time. 5/5
Interesting, quite experimental. Really not my kind of thing but can tell maybe Bowie and other visionaries were doing a similar thing to this. 2/5 just because it's not my jam
Strange, not my vibe, but appreciate its similarity to some Beatles type stuff. 2
Proper cheesy dad power rock ๐m but absolutely mint, can't not enjoy it. Saved a couple tracks to a playlist. Smoke on the Water is obv a classic
This is the music my dad grew up on, OG English punk. Down In The Tubestation At Midnight is a nostalgic tune for me cos dad played it and would sing it when I was a kid. 4/5
Decent, real enjoyable. Never really listened to them before, despite how almassive they are. This seemed a bit of a country style album. 3 seems harsh but 4 seems too high....
Had a Deep Purple not long ago. Seems similar, classic rock, really upbeat, enjoyable. Sounds more classic than I ever thought these guys to be. Sounds Led Zep-ish. 3/5
Very 80s girl band sounding. Not that great though. I like certain bits that sound a bit like old school punk beats (similar beat to The Clash and similar bands) 2/5
No way, first track 'Spellbound' is the sample from Akala's 'Where I'm From' ๐ decent, enjoyable. 3/5
I know their name but couldn't name any tunes. I'd heard 'Sun Meets The Sky' before. They're alright, wasn't that bothered overall. 'Sex!' was funny AF though ๐ . 2/5
Chill, old school classic. 3/5
Really not much of a fan of this. Sounds kind of Beatles - ish. Bit experimental, bit rock n roll. Didn't warm to it though, bit too out there. I assume/hope these guys have better albums. 1/5
Didn't even know this album was a thing ๐ I rate Cee-Lo though from the days of Goodie Mob, Gnarles Barley too. Halfway through and I'm not that impressed ๐ it's OK but it's nowhere near as good as Gnarles or Goodie. Feels like a bit of a swing and a miss. Shame, wanted to enjoy it. 2/5
Love these guys, so decent and nostalgic too. Straight from first track feels like it's gonna be a 4 or 5 ๐ค. Red Alert big tune, Bingo Bango too. Halfway through, feels like a 4. Ended up being like a 4.5, some great tunes but just not quite enough for a 5.
First couple tracks, it's pretty out there. Good though. Can tell its had a lot of thought put into it. I had already heard 'Closer' (limp Bizkit ripped it off). A lot of religious connotations. Last track 'Hurt' is one of my favourite tracks of all time. Liked it. 5/5.happily own it on vinyl
Obv 5/5. One of my first albums. Not as good as his next album though, Marshall Mathers LP. But this paved the way
Don't really like Coldplay and I don't know why. Mum and dad music innit ๐คทโโ๏ธ. This surprised me though, some nice tunes. Feeling generous, 3/5
Sounds like an old British punk frontman has done his own more folky acoustic album. It's OK, I think it needs more time to appreciate. Sounds like it was probably quite popular back in the day. 2/5
Not really my thing at all, just a bit boring. Not awful but just not interested at all. 1/5
I recognise first track 'I Feel The Earth Move' , always thought this would have been by a black soul singer. 'It's Too Late', 'You've Got A Friend' massive tunes too. Decent, definitely a 4
God awful. Can sort of see what they were trying achieve, I think. Picked up a bit midway through, but really overall just not interested in this. Not for me. 1/5
Decent, bluesy, early rock n roll style. Walk This Way obv a massive tune. Sweet Emotion was a sick track too. 3/5 easy, maybe a 4 actually.
Feels like a 2, but maaaybe a 3 because of tracks like 'It's The End Of The World' and 'The One I Love'. Its alright but not that much of a game changer. Feel like if it wasn't REM with their reputation then it wouldn't be that great. 2/5 cos I'm just not feeling the rest of it
Not what I was expecting at all, thought it was going to be punk for some reason. Was more like The Beach Boys style. Enjoyable but nothing stood out as special. 3/5
Lovely tunes, but really really not my thing. Help and Close To You are classics, but Help is just a Beatles cover. 2/5
Not sure about this one. Angels and Let Me Entertain You are absolute classics๐ (maybe guilty pleasures) from my generation. BUT this rest of the album is pretty shite, standard nonsense pop. Maybe a 2/5? Seems harsh but there's only 2 good songs.
Proper jazz, long songs and all over the place. Decent, but not my favourite of his stuff. I'm still not cool enough to get Jazz. Still, appreciated the talent. 3/5
Yehhhh OK, alright, struggling to get into it though. 2 or a 3, not sure yet. Picked up a bit towards the end. Deserves a 3 but still not my favourite Bob Dylan stuff. 3/5
Yessssss!!!!!! Sick album, can't believe it's on here ๐ค๐ค๐ค๐ 5/5 all day every day
Never really listen to music like this from this era but it's so feel-good, upbeat. Like v early rock n roll. 3/5
Never really listened to this guy, Jump is a classic though, heard that before. Sounds a bit ACDC at times, no doubt inspired them. Also sounds a bit Aerosmith, they may have inspired this guy. Easy a 3/5.
Pretty out there, like a mad jazz funk soul fusion, but with other styles too, rock influence in parts. Weirdly enjoyable though, clearly really talented musicians, a whole range of genres of tracks and they bossed them all. Gotta be worth a 3/5, not quite a 4,some tracks were just covers.
Pretty cool. Like early minimalist electronic, but cos of the era u can hear The Prodigy vibes, some similar tempos. Decent, easy to listen to. 3/5
Veryyyyyy interesting. First track sounded like Arctin Monkeys modelled some of their middle/later years stuff on it. Decent, enjoyable, to start with, feels like a 3. Dropped off a bit as its progressed, feels a bit more like a 2 by the mid-point. Yeh, 2/5
Never been a fan of ABBA, can tell they had talent, wide ranging songs, clearly musical talent there, but just really not my bag. 2/5
Very much of its era, got vibes of early Fat Boy Slim and people like The Wiseguys too, lounge dance groove style. Also got some early dub electronic / DnB vibes. Middle of the road, never been hugely my thing but I did listen to this kinda stuff when I was younger so I can definitely get behind it and enjoy it. Think I've heard Gritty Shaker before on one of Dave Dews chilled ibiza style compilation albums, defo heard Rodney Yates before, absolute tune. 3.5/5 but gona round up to 4 cos feelin generous.
Straight away decent. Old school punk, liking it immediately. Feels familiar, maybe Tony Hawks or Earthed. Classic punk style, in that there are similar sounds to Black Flag, but also feel like bands like this inspired QOTSA. Yeh just realised the track 'The Wait' is off Earthed. 4/5
Absolutely love this album. Heard it many times before, I'm guessing I'm probably gonna go 4/5. Shit, maybe a 5. Some absolute bangers. Hmm maybe a 4. Shame I can't do a 4.5. Damn, maybe a 5. Not sure
Started good, then solemn, then next track sounds like the menu music or first level music from a child's video game ๐ kinda decent though, enjoyable at least.
Decent, OG punk but with Jimmy Hendrix vibes. 4/5.
Yeh, decent, better than the last beastie boys album I got. Still a bit gimmicky though. Some later tracks decent. 'A Year and a Day' real decent. 4/5
Definitely not my favourite black Sabbath album, still ozzy though do still decent. 3/5
Very 90s, minimal chilled electronic. Pretty easy to listen to but after first few tracks I'm not that bothered about it. Nothin particularly wrong with it but it just did nothing for me. 2/5
Thought I was gonna hate this so much but its actually catchy AF ๐ he's got a decent voice tbf to him. Real mix between like Lounge Soul and more funky dance stuff. Prob worth a 3. Maybe actually a 2,its ite but just not for me. 2.5 at best.
Glad I listened to this, I would've assumed that I'd really rate anythin by Bowie given how popular he is but this really isn't my kinda thing. Jean Genie is a good track but prob only cos I recognise it. 2/5
It's alright, it's Elton John innit. Tiny Dancer tune. Also got the tune on here that he turned into the Ghetto Gospel Tupac tune. I respect the guys work but he ain't for me really. 2/5
Sounds a bit grungey, a bit drengey, a bit Brody Dalle almost. Cool, 3/5
Hard to think how this wouldbt be a 5 just cos it's so damn influential to all the artists I love. Surprised if I rate this less than a 5. Yeh 5.
Thrash metal, kinda stuff that used to be on Tony Hawks back in the day. Actually don't mind it but not sure how it made it to the album generator lol. Actually really enjoying this further through haha, it's like the stuff that has influenced Terror. Easy a 3/5, more like a 3.5 tbf
Very much of its time, sounds like Beatles. Some funky tracks but overall not my bag. 2/5
Psychedelic rock, suppose u could say its similar to The Doors. But it isn't The Doors so I'm not that much of a fan, just seems like a copy. Last track was a classic riff, be coolif they're the ones that first invented that. 2/5
Recognise The Killing Moon. I know these guys are highly rated, don't know anything about them though. They sound British and a bit ahead of their time for 80s. Can see how they're popular and can hear how much they've influenced modern music. But hard to love it after one listen, so 2/5
Sick! Pretty sure this is Chuck-D from Public Enemy... Sounds like him. Maybe a side project? Decent, political hip-hop, gotta love it! 4/5
I don't think anything Guru touches could be less than a 5. Absolutely love GangStarr and Guru is one of the best MCs of all time. 5/5
Sounds very much of its era, like film music almost, lots of brass. It's alright, can appreciate it, feels kinda classy, defo not my bag though. 2/5
Yeh, alright, recognised the obvious tracks. Hotel California etc. Not really my bag though. 2/5
Enjoyed this more than I thought I would, its like soft acoustic folk music. Thought I was gonna hate it. Prob worth a 2.5
Nostalgic as hell. Used to bump this a lot back in the day. Plenty of decent tracks, Someday, Last Nite, Hard To Explain. 4/5
Is not really my bag, it's like folky rock stuff but not cool like Bob Dylan, just a bit soft and shite. Gonna be harsh and go 1/5
Downtempo. French,, kinda cool. Added a track or 2 to my Downtempo playlist. 3/5.
Maybe I just wasn't in the mood for this but I thought it was pretty shite. 1/5
Hmmm, tricky. Not my kinda thing at all, power rock, no playlist of mine that I could see this being a part of. But still appreciated bits, the guitar riff on one bit was very Thundercat. Wanna say 3 but really prob just a 2.
'The Weight' is a massive classic tune and means the album deserves at least a 3 just based on this. Not my kinda stuff though for the most part, I can appreciate its good but doesn't excite me that much, it's just chilled American country-ish rock. 3/5
Gotta love Bob. First track and off to a great start. I imagine it'll be a 4. Oh man, ALL the bangers on this one ๐ at LEAST a 4. Maybe a 5 cos it's his best Stuff IMO
Weird, like a theatre score or musical film music. Each song like a story. Out there, different, not surprising given that Nick Cave features. Intriguing though, not bad,but also not my kind of thing. 2/5
Absolutely mint, no idea she was this good. Better than, or at least as good as, a lot of the greatsnfrom this era, Tribe, De La Soul, etc. Easy a 4 maybe a 5
Like a Brit-Pop Dido. Alright but not that exciting. 2/5
Never used to get the hype about The Beatles at all, but after uni and chatting to people that like them and then giving them a good try I started to understand it. This one is odd, defo all heavily inspired by psychedelics, the lyrics aren't all that great but they know how to make a catchy tune. None of my fav tracks on here though, I prefer their earlier almost punky stuff. This is prob a 3 or a 4. Really hard to know how to rate, can't help but question whether I'd give it the time of day if it wasn't The Beatles. I reckon 3, but only just, it's good that it's so varied but it really isn't that great, but then again some moments of genius๐. 3/5
My kinda thing, never really got massively into Green day tho. I know a couple tracks. First impressions feels like a 3. Had no idea this album was so old. Basket Case is a tune. At times can hear the influence of older californian rock, like beach boys. 3/5
Sick, first 2 tracks are proper 90s grunge, big fan. Always wanted to give these guys more of a listen/try so lookin forward to the rest of this one. Feels like a high3 so round up to a 4 so far. Yeh 4/5, enjoyed it.
Really really really really not my kind of thing. However, California Dreaming is a classic, but this is just so not my thing. 2/5
God, what is this. So out there ๐ weird as hell. Don't know if it's so weird it's good, or if it's just too weird ๐. Psychedelic, a bit medieval and then also a bit Eastern sounding. bless them, not good. I think maybe a solid 1/5 ๐
Yessss love Buzzcocks. OG punk. First track starts with an instrumental that was used as the riff for Boredom. Don't recognise the other tracks but it's sick, love it. 4/5
Like San Fran californian hippy surf rock. The kinda stuff that people say The Beatles did really well. Not so much my bag, alright though. Also, album cover looks like it might be The Red Victorian where me Jim and Scott stayed in San Fran. Decent musicians, kinda bluesy at times, but just wasn't loving it. 2/5
Mad to me that this was known as black metal back in the day, just sounds like skate thrash to me, similar to some hardcore I grew up listening to. I always thought black metal would be more twiddly guitar shit. Seems influential, sounds nostalgic. 3/5
Soft hippy rock. Almost Simon and garfunkelish. Not my bag. 1/5
Like 80s power rock. Pretty sure some of this was on GTA Vice City. Just sounds like Aerosmith. 2/5
Actually thought this was better than I was expecting it to be. Recognised a few tracks, like Wild Wood. Clearly a really talented musician. Had no idea he used to be the frontman for The Jam. Tricky to rate, I probably wouldn't go back and listen again but it was clearly decent, just not so much my 'Jam'...
Recognised few of the tracks, seems to have their big ones on. Rio, Hungry Like The Wolf, Save A Prayer. Not really my bag though, I like the songs to the extent that they're classics but I never have been a massive fan other than that. As an album it wasn't anything special. 2/5
Not feeling this at all, think it needs a certain headspace and I ain't there. 1/5
No way! I read Matthew Mcconaughey biography recently and he mentioned this guy as his favourite artist. I listened and got hooked, can't believe he's on top 1001 albums! Buzzin, real cool, proper unique and different to anything I've ever listened to, like African meets American Western, Bluesy. Sick music for late night with a whiskey ๐ 4/5
Heard of this guy before but don't really recognise the tracks at the mid-point. Love a bit of Latin American though, it's all so feel good and upbeat. Enjoyed this but not sure I'd go back and listen again. Think it's worth a 3 as I'd happily listen anytime if someone stuck it on. 3/5
I remember this being one of the first albums I ever got. And I was freaked the fuck out by it ๐ mental, scared me ๐. Prob influenced the metal and punk and garscore I got into in late teens. Listening back now its so good, prob gonna be a 5 for nostalgic value.
Not sure about this. Wanted it to be better.. Its got one of the best ongs of all time on it (Unfinished Sympathy) but everything in the run up to that track has been very average. It's good, clever, it's got little nods/references to classic tracks in there. But just a bit flat overall. 3/5
Spotify wouldn't let me play the whole album but had a couple bangers (Heard It Through The Grapevine). Love a bit of motown, Dave Dew would play it when I was a kid. 3/5
Like this well better than I thought I was gonna. Had no idea what to expect, recognised a few tracks. All pretty chill and feel good. Easy a 3.
First track banger straight off the bat! 2nd track big tune too. Yeh few bangers, class, big energy. Not as many hits as I hoped for but still mint, 4/5
Never really listened to Doves much, but dead keen to given the story that Uncle Chris was in the band that became Doves with Jimmy Goodwin and went to school with Jimmy. I recognise 3rd track There Goes The Fear, had no idea it was them. Halfway through and unfortunately this isn't really my bag, the genre never has been, original Manchester indie. 2/5
Didn't know Minor Threat would be on here very happy to see it ๐ never really given them time of day but yeh, OG punk so mint. Turns out this is their first album, so, before the Straight Edge track. Not as good as the 2nd album. 4/5 for being OGs
Fell in Love With A Girl is a big tune. I like the White Stripes, I think I rated their last album a 4/5. In reality this is a 3.5, it's not as good as their other one but it's still good and I saved a couple tracks. 4
Pretty cool. Very much like Gil Scott Heron crossed with Ali Farka Toure. Santana guitar mixed in too. Hard to rate, not a genre I'd regularly go back to but I do seem to have a soft/spot for blues/Country vibes from time to time. Seems like the quality of music deserves more than a 3,but I think Il give it a 3 just cos I'm not sure if it's quite a 4 for me personally. 3
OG 80s power rock. Never really listened to these guys, or at least not knowingly. It's OK, not amazing. 2/5
Some bangers, had no idea she did What's Love Got To Do With It or Let's Stay Together. But yeh, at the end of the day, it's Tina Turner, its fine but it ain't my jam, sorry Tina ๐ 2/5
Class, know this one well. Already had an older Tribe album. This is sick though, a classic. Not even started listening and know it's gonna be a 5. Yeh, 5, easy.
Feels like a 4, even the title track alone means it deserves a 4, but some other good tunes too. Hells Bells and Shook Me All Night Long. 4/5
Some of the OGs of punk, can't hate this stuff, it birthed the stuff I grew up listening to. Not sure how much I love it for it's sound tho, I more just respect the importance of it. Nah, by the end I loved this, sick, OG punk. Easy a 4.
1st track got some kind of Radiohead vibes. More classical though. Gets some Harry Nhielson vibes going too. Not my thing at all so would struggle to give it more than a 3, however I can totally see how it's on the 1001 album list. 3/5
Weirdly never given 2pac much of a chance, never gone out of my way to listen to his stuff. Initial thoughts after a few tracks aren't that great! ๐ญ It's easy a 3 cos I love hiphop but it's not bowled me over yet. Lord Knows is a tune, decent sample. Think this is worth a 4 actually. Classics. Still, didn't love it quite as much as I was hoping to ๐
Awesome, never really listened to her but k oe of her as Andre 3K's baby mama ๐ this is decent. Smooth, groove, soul. Definitely some outkast similarities, also clear inspiration for people like Hiatus Kayote and Childish Gambino. 4. Maybe a 5 actually, loved it
The Who are mint, not even heard much of their stuff but what I've heard all seems mint. Good album, heard Substitute before. Easy 3
Hmm, wanted to like this but just wasn't feeling it! I like tunes like Solid Gold Easy Action but it wasn't on here โน๏ธ only a 2
Got a soft spot for Motorhead, similar to with Black Sabbath. Not just UK band, but local lads from Stoke. Tunes are nuts too, appreciate the high energy. Seems ahead of its time for early 80s too. 4/5
Started out thinking its shite and not for me. Just sounded like film music. As it going though there were some real clever comedy lyrics that I appreciated. It's weird, but then again so is most good art. The singing/instrument talent isn't that great, but the melancholy sounds and the comedy bits are clever. Can see why it made it to the 1001 list. Prob a 3.
Instantly don't like this, first track is abrasive ๐๐ญ. 4th track is a bit more palatable, more punky, could imagine it on an Earthed dvd. 7th track is palatable too. At times some tracks seem a bit like The Smashing Pumpkins, but I can't help but feel this doesn't quite deserve a 3 though, so, 2/5
Decent, enjoyable. Bluesy rock. 19 minute songs ain't never gonna be my bag though but still a solid 3.
Just not at all my thing, didn't enjoy. Feels like this is what Simply Red was trying to be. 1/5
Classic example of indie rock from the time I was growing up high school/college era. Never was that arsed about these guys but they had a some 'hits' at the time ๐. Can appreciate it, prob worth a 3.
Macclesfield's finest. Solid 3. Prob not as good as Unknown Pleasures. Never spent a great deal of time listening to their stuff but always found it really eerie and intriguing. Sounds experimental but ahead of its time. 3/5
Decent, bluesy swingy, really enjoyed it, never heard of him. 3/5
Chilled hippy melodic stuff. Bit boring, not my bag. 2/5
Not normally my kinda thing but clearly a great album, more folk/country inspired than I thought it'd be. Saved a few tracks. 4/5
Thought it was Bob Dylan at first. Country folk rock, honkey-tonk style. Not my bag. 2/5
OG punk, enjoyed it and know its influential but didn't quite like any individual tracks enough to give it a 4.3/5
First track Karma Chameleon is a classic but thinking about it, it's not actually a good track, it's just well known. Other than that there was nothing to write home about. Maybe some Arctic Monkeys Old Yellow Bricks inspiration from Miss Me Blind. Really not my bag at all though, not sure if it's a 1 or a 2.
