I had somehow managed to never listen to an Arcade Fire song, so this was a great introduction. I really adored the color and arrpeggiation of the chords and the interweaving of various instruments and styles. The reviews really hype up the lyrics so I'll have to listen again in order to grasp them. The mixing initially bothered me, but my ears got used to it. It was just challenging to have the guitars louder than the vocals.
I didn't get through this the first time, but actually really enjoyed it the second time. Many of the songs I would listen to again.
I've listened to this album many many times but always am amazed by how many bangers it has
I like Elton John but the album didn't capture me that much. Out if his hits, Benny and the Jets just isn't my favorite. The first track was lovely :) and the blues was fun.
I just don't find thrash metal interesting. The album wasn't enjoyable to listen to
Wasn't bad but it was kind of boring
Feeling groovy :))
Also +1 for Carmel reference
I like grunge but it wasn't that interesting
Very interesting sounds! Still pretty 80s
I think this deserves a 5 for musicality but have to give a 4 bc I might not listen again
This was so much fun! Much better than a lot of 90s rock-pop I've listened to
I've listened to this one before, didn't give it a second listen. I might another time if I have time.
I really want to like this but I really disliked some of the covers.
Seems kind of ahead of it's time, very grunge. I think I would like it more if I was in the mood for it, but now I'm trying to work
Fun background music for working!
a 5 just for having all of those hits
Enjoyed this one much more than the last
Not as much of an old school rock and roll fan as I thought
amazing. a classic. 11/10.
This one was emotional. My friend's little sister recited "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" at his funeral last week. Funny that it popped up so soon after.
There was one song I really enjoyed, but the rest was kind of meh. However, I don't like the Beach Boys much at all and was still pleasantly surprised by the beginning of the album.
I started off really liking this, already had been a fan of the first track. But it became full of too many genres, while still being overly loud and quintessentially 80s. +1 for gender nonconformity Update: -2 for racism
Had never heard this but heard the lyrical influences for other songs I know
This reminded me of playing music as a teenager, just learning to sing. The fact that they put this out is crazy impressive!
Some of this was so good but some was so bad
+5 for origin of deez nutz
Some parts I loved but the whole album was too forward driving and repetitive
On one hand, I fucking love rock music, and I enjoyed listening to their perspective on the story of Lynyrd Skynyrd and growing up in a rural area. On the other hand, I think it kind of downplayed racism in America and the music wasn't original whatsoever. I think I would listen again though.
This was like 12 different genres yet I still loved it. Funky
I don't know why I disliked this so much. It got good towards the middle where there was nice melancholia but the guy can't sing and I found the music boring
Maybe there is lyrical genius here but it's just not my kind of music
I want to like reggae so bad because the themes are lovely but I just don't
I hadn't listened to this since it came out but it blew me away...wow
can't believe i hadn't listened to this
I thought I had listened to this before but I guess not. Fight Test is such a good song and strong opener, it was great to hear the rest of the album.
prog rock is so weird. but this was a banger 10/10
meh. I think I just don't like most of their earlier work. All My Lovin is the best song on this album imo and I don't even like it that much, even after performing it with a band.
Originally not a fan but the later tracks are so good!!
second emmylou harris album and wow i love country music again
I don't think I listened intentionally enough but queen songs all sound the same
I love punk music but it can usually get kind of boring on an album. But I really felt like this one told a musical story, like there was tension and everything
I thought this was just on here for tiny dancer but madman across the water was so good
5 but I was tripping. Will listen again
Very very good but the sounds were just too much at times? Not sure how to describe it. Just a lot of orchestral at once
4 because it's influential but I've tried so hard to like the Ramones and I just can't get past the guys voice
beautiful folk! i had heard moondance before but didn't know which album it was from, such a beautiful song
God the first songs so bad
But there are many hits on this album
Torn between 3 and 4
I honestly did not like how this sounded
First rush album! which is weird because many people I know say they are their favorite band. anyways so good!
Never really been my thing. But it's influential. And ridiculously horny
Funky, my first intro to his music so I didn't know what to expect. But a good mix of folk and 70s funk
I feel like I didn't pay much attention but eh
It's long, but it's a great concept album and definitely influential. It was nice as background music
Influential to rock and roll and his voice is so nice but not my thing generally
I like REM a lot and the albums two hits are great. Most of the rest didn't do it for me though. The first track was great!
Accidentally listened to this one out of order. But I really liked it, 5/5. Will probably re-listen in order
Listened out of order by accident but couldn't get myself to listen again
Could nickleback exist without this album
some cool sounds, but otherwise sounds like every 90s album
not even worth listening to
Weird. I had only heard one of their songs before
not as good as I remember...
made me very sad for some reason?
Not really sure why it's on the list...but good songwriting!
this is the kind of prog that gets to me. dribbles the doormouse
I get that it was foundational but I just don't like it
I've listened to this one before and still think the lyrics are so meh
Would be a 5 if it was half the length, too many repetitive long parts
i've tried to listen to this a few times, not sure why I hadn't yet
I appreciate bob dylan, but I rarely like listening to him
Obligatory note about understanding how influential this is but I just don't enjoy it
Listened to about half...I think it influenced future bands that were popular in the 90s but it still was not, good
classic queen but -1 star because it's a whole lot of the same thing for an entire album
I liked the last song the best, surprisingly
glad i listened to this again, definitely heard a lot of influences in psychedelic rock
I think the loops went on longer than they needed to. Otherwise the samples were great and really influential it seems
The mixing on the remastered version I listened to was not very good, but the songwriting gives this a 5 easy
Really nice acoustic guitar and horns
I really didn't like this one. Maybe if I had listened to the whole thing I'd think differently. ajr of the 1970s
never really liked mr blue sky and the whole album was like that
I just listened to this a little while ago. I'm a big fan of at the drive in, and am just getting into the mars volta. I will always be obsessed with cedric's voice
not my type of punk typically but the stylistic blend is so far ahead of it's time
Surprisingly torn on this one. I remember this album fondly, but here were my thoughts
- First few songs terrible
- Used to not like suck my kiss, but it is a good song actually. gets to the core of their funk sound that I like.
- too bad the rest of the album sounded exactly like that
- with the exception of under the bridge which is an obvious masterpiece
I liked the sounds. Didn't like the dynamic range in my headphones :/
I like REM, but this album was quite different and slower than most. my hot take is I like strings in pop rock actually
Easily one of the best albums of the decade
a classic. also much more psychedelic than I expected at the end
Hm. Found this just generally uninspiring, but had the suspicion it was influential for london edm going forward? I didn't like the vocalists, maybe it was just how they were mixed. Definitely of it's time.
ridiculous. yet a classic
I thought the beats were fairly boring
I really liked the vocals, but I don't usually sit and listen to folk music
I usually like the smiths despite controversy but this kinda sucked
