Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band
3/5
It does take some effort to listen to in its entirety, but there are some true gems in there. The concept is really crazy, I like it. I still think of the trout mask included in the vinyl. I don't have it, though. Love all the talking passages and the fact that the album got made in like one single 6 hour session.
Pena is still my all time favorite.

I think I knew La Grange before (maybe from ads?), that one and Sheik were pretty good. Apart from that, it kinda blended over into each other. Listened to the Expanded Remaster.

Masterpiece. One of my all time faves. Fell in love with it three years ago, I think. Among the rare albums, where I don't skip a single song. Rich and luscious songs, iconic lyrics and the mood is incredible.
Johnny Cash
4/5
Really good, powerful. Got a bit teary-eyed at the end. Really felt the emotions from the stories told.

I'll be honest, sometimes it's a bit of a strain. But then again, some tracks really land.

A solid album. Pleasant to listen to, even though I don't remember any particular melodies. Kinda like Beck's style. His singing voice was different on two songs I think?

Listened to this before and it feels really long for some reason. Jokes on you, I made it past 25 by now.
Quite a journey. Like the intermissions. Interesting concept album.

Quite alright. Cried while listening to it, so I couldn't really concentrate. Like the vibes, kinda indie. Teen me would have loved this.

4/5
Nice vibes. Heard while going for a walk and it lifted my mood. Loved the parts where the trumpet quivers. Interesting instrumental (except for the last song I think) album.

Oh yeah, I grew to love this two years ago.

Love the intermissions and the motif at the beginning and end.

I can't seem to get into it. Have heard other albums by them before, but it doesn't click. Maybe I'd need to give it another chance (or two) someday.
Liked the spoken words of The Gift though.

Really cool, love it. Watermelon Man is my fave, I'll forever think of that Bruce Lee parody on YouTube when hearing it.

3/5
Chill.

Not bad. Chill. I should watch the movie soon.
+ Little Child Runnin' Wild

Big Brother & The Holding Company
2/5
Janis Joplin really has a powerful voice. The live atmosphere of the album was quite nice too, but the album doesn't click with me really.
Heard a version with two extra songs.
+ Combination of the Two
+ Flower in the Sun
Wilco
3/5
Chill and depressed album. Soft, but determined singing. Heard before.
+ I Am Trying To Break Your Heart
+ Kamera
+ I'm The Man Who Loves You

3/5
Heard while walking through the park. Sometimes it paused or I listened to songs twice because there was no signal. But overall quite nice and energetic.
+ Bell Bottom Blues
+ Anyday
+ Layla
Radiohead
3/5
I think I like Thom Yorke's voice. I like the dark and desperate but playful aesthetic of the album. The songs sound nice, even if most of them are not on an earworm-level for me.
+ Weird Fishes/Arpeggio
+ Reckoner
Slipknot
4/5
As a Slipknot fan, 10/10.
No, I'll give it four stars. It's a solid album, although many songs sound same-ish.
I love the alternate cover, the one with the more spooky feeling. Snuff is an all time fave ballad, Dead Memories was one of their first songs I heard. I have vivid memories connected with almost every song on here.
That part of the chorus of Gehenna - love it. The Vermilion remix is one of my faves.
+ Psychosocial
+ Vendetta
+ Butcher's Hook
+ Snuff
+ Child Of Burning Time
+ Vermilion, Pt. 2 - Bloodstone Mix

Queen Latifah
2/5
Listened to the version with different mixes at the end. It was fine, but not really my cup of tea.
+ Come Into My House
Steely Dan
5/5
I freaking love Steely Dan.
Absolute bomb debut, love all the songs. Never fails to put me in a good mood.
I always laugh at the "oh Michael, oh Jesus" part.
Louis Prima
4/5
Heard before.
Just A Gigolo is still a bop. I'm treasuring the memories of dancing to this song with my sister on Just Dance.
Funny, how most of the songs start off with the same pattern or are of the same build.
You'd think that Just a Gigolo was about to start again, only to find out it's a different song.
But overall nice.
+ The Lip
+ Oh, Marie
+ Basin Street Blues
Coldplay
4/5
I don't know why, but the early Coldplay stuff has some kind of magic for me. Don't know what it is, but - those chords, man! And his voice! I agree that the second half of the album falls a bit flat, but in general it's an experience.
+ Politik
+ Clocks
+ In My Place
+ God Put A Smile Upon Your Face
+ Daylight
Throbbing Gristle
3/5
Hard to listen to, BUT it succeeds in painting a mood, a scenery, an unpleasant feeling. Unrelenting in its rhythms and screams and blabbering.
+ Hit By A Rock
+ Dead On Arrival
+ Weeping
+ Hamburger Lady
+ Hometime (reminded me of Starfox Adventures and something else)
Fun Lovin' Criminals
3/5
A mix of styles. Gerenelly a good vibe, but no song really clicked with me. Maybe I'd have to listen to this one again. Some good instrumentals in any case. Bonus points for incorporating Reservoir Dogs lines! <3
+ Scooby Snacks
+ Smoke 'Em
+ King of New York
+ Methadonia
The Verve
2/5
Hmmm. Hard to say. Was a bit too long for my taste and I kept zoning out.
But I still have good memories with Bittersweet Symphony, that'll always be special.
+ Bittersweet Symphony
+ Catching The Butterfly
+ Neon Wilderness
+ Space and Time
Pixies
2/5
Hmm.... not really clicking with me yet.
Has some funny moments with its wacky atmosphere, but overall nothing I remember. Except for Where Is My Mind, which I'ved heard before.
Haircut 100
4/5
Another feel good album from the 80s. Really enjoyed it, it reminds me of XTC. Overall a dancable summer vibe. The first half was already pretty good.
And the album cover is simply perfection!
I don't remember which songs I remember particularly, but I think it was October is Orange and Calling Captain Autumn.
Robbie Williams
3/5
Heard before.
*me screaming the lyrics of Angels*
I had this weird, but short, Robbie Williams phase as a grade-schooler. I enjoyed this album, it's almost a 4, but I'll still rate it 3. Or should I?
+ Angels
+ Old Before I Die
+ Let Me Entertain You
+ Killing Me
+ Clean
+ Baby Girl Window and a shoutout to the hidden track
Rocket From The Crypt
2/5
All songs felt kind of the same to me. Album cover makes me queasy.
+ On A Rope
+ Ball Lightning
+ Misbeaten
Count Basie & His Orchestra
4/5
Really cool, I love it! Big band sound. Jazzy goodness. Sounds like something to incorporate into your everyday life, since its runtime isn't too long. Forgot to note the songs I liked, but the album overall feels nice.
+ Midnight Blue
+ Li'l Darlin'
Yes
3/5
It was okay. I think I heard it before. Can't exactly say which songs I liked best (I forgot), but it's groovy.
Sigur Rós
3/5
Immaculate vibes. Really one of its kind. But nothing I'd listen to regularly. Yet I still connect Sigur Rós songs with highly emotional situations I keep thinking about after years.
Olsen Olsen sounds like the music that would play while Eurovision contestants get introduced in those little videos.
The voice is just wow. Fragile. It's music for... Death Stranding. Mysterious Skin. Otherworldly experiences. The ending sounds interesting.
Bob Dylan
3/5
For now a 3 star album, may change later. Really sounded more like poetry (or slam poetry) in parts, especially on It's Alright, Ma. One of his better albums, I get it now. Chill to listen to.
+ Maggie's Farm
+ Bob Dylan's 115th Dream
+ Mr. Tambourine Man
+ It's Alright, Ma (I'm Only Bleeding)
+ It's All Over Now, Baby Blue
U2
3/5
Heard before for this entry, but forgot to write any notes. But now that I listen to it again, it's hard to do that... I know that U2 seems to be in the same spot as Coldplay and Imagine Dragons. I mean, it's okay to listen to, but I don't quite emotionally react to it. But it's still chill. My driving instructor used to play U2 in his car, so I tend to think about that.
+ One Love
+ Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses
+ So Cruel
+ Tryin' To Throw Your Arms Around The World
Thelonious Monk
3/5
Was okay. Liked how some songs started kinda wacky, like Pannonica.
Overall not bad.
Cream
3/5
Heard before.
I randomly hear that one part of Outside Woman Blues in my head sometimes (cooking your food, doing your dirt, cooking your food, doing your dirt...).
Sunshine of Your Love is like the guitar center version of the jazz lick.
+ Sunshine Of Your Love
+ We're Going Wrong
+ Outside Woman Blues
Tom Waits
4/5
Another interesting Tom Waits album. It sounds abrasive, sometimes barebones, but still lush in its presentation. I can totally feel and see the image of the dark and dirty corners of a busy city. Wanted to rate this a 3 initially, but now that I see how many songs I saved in a playlist, I'm considering a 4. It's making me feel something at least.
+ Clap Hands
+ Cemetery Polka
+ Tango Till They're Sore
+ Rain Dogs
+ Midtown
+ 9th & Hennepin
+ Gun Street Girl
+ Blind Love
+ Walking Spanish
+ Bride of Rain Dog
Norah Jones
3/5
I've listened to this album twice by now, but I still have trouble rating it. I've seen it been described as "Starbucks music" and I kinda agree. It's inoffensive, running in the background, but I can't differentiate between the songs. Might still rate it a 3 though.
Beck
3/5
Nice to listen to, but nothing really grabs me.
But what I can say is that I like his screams on this album.
It has a mix of screamed vocals, ballads, dub, his typical guitar sound.
+ Derelict
+ Readymade
+ Ramshackle
+ Diskobox
Fatboy Slim
4/5
Heard before while exercising.
The first half is iconic, so many good songs and memories.
I love especially the Fucking In Heaven Simons GT Remix!
The Smiths
4/5
Ooooh I love it! This was the first Smiths album from this list I heard and it was on heavy rotation for me during 2021, additionally to learning some of the bass lines. Meat is Murder is a heavy hitter and uncomfortable to listen to, but I guess it has to be.
+ Headmaster Ritual
+ Barbarism Begins At Home
+ That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore
+ Well I Wonder
Patti Smith
3/5
Heard before, around the time I heard she was coming to my town for a concert.
It's okay and quite entertaining, but no earworm material for me for now.
The Shamen
2/5
Reminded me of 808 State, the singing of XTC. Sounds like THE party music of the 90s/Y2K.
Not really something I would personally put on, but I wouldn't mind it playing at a venue. The song I remember the most would be "Make It Mine".
CHIC
4/5
I like disco music. I like CHIC.
+ Good Times
+ My Feet Keep Dancing
+ My Forbidden Lover
+ Will You Cry (When You Hear This Song)
AC/DC
3/5
It's... okay, I guess. I wouldn't mind hearing it elsewhere, but won't likely put it on myself.
Back in Black is a banger, I knew the sound, but not the name of the song, shame on me.
+ Back In Black
+ Let Me Put My Love Into You
+ What Do You Do For Money Honey
Neil Young
3/5
I've heard this one twice, but so far nothing memorable. I probably should listen to this one again while reading the lyrics, because I can imagine myself getting more into it that way. Not bad, somber mood.
But one thing I love is the cover, that's pretty iconic.
a-ha
3/5
Take On Me has been memed to death and I've heard it a million times. That didn't stop me from having it as a helicopter theme in Metal Gear Solid V, hehe.
+ Train of Thought
+ The Sun Always Shines on TV
+ And You Tell Me
+ Love Is Reason
+ I Dream Myself Alive
Might I say that Here I Stand And Face The Rain is the best song from the album? I get the most feelings from this one.
John Cale
3/5
Heard before. Quite a mixed bag, it starts slow but picks up at around Macbeth. Mediocre for me. Hanky Panky Nohow is a song that randomly strikes my brain sometimes, so I'm glad I found it again.
+ Hanky Panky Nohow
+ Macbeth
+ Andalucia
+ Paris 1919
Bebel Gilberto
3/5
Dreamy and lounge-y with Samba rhythms.
+ Samba de Bencao
+ Sem Contenção
+ So Nice (Summer Samba)
+ Bananeira
The Rolling Stones
2/5
Rather meh for now.
They should've put "Can I Get a Witness" as the opener and "Now I've Got a Witness" as the closer, hehe. Those two had the most enjoyable melody for me. It's not bad, but not memorable. I liked more songs from Aftermath.
Rufus Wainwright
4/5
Liked it more than I thought. Wanted to check him out much earlier, always think of Hallelujah and Shrek when I read his name. But this was refreshingly thoughtful, the album. Dreamy, thought-provoking... I liked the atmosphere. Some of the notes about the making of the songs resonated with me.
+ Oh What A World
+ I Don't Know What It Is
+ Vicious World
+ Vibrate
+ Harvester of Hearts
+ Want
Buddy Holly & The Crickets
3/5
It was... okay. Went by fast, can't say much about it.
I'm Lookin' For Someone To Love and Send Me Some Lovin' were the songs I noticed out of the bunch.
Bobby Womack
3/5
Heard before, but forgot about it. Funky and I appreciate the bass lines. I like him and I'm glad I got to see him play live with Gorillaz.
Where Do We Go From Here is a good song to end the album with.
+ Just My Imagination
+ Stand Up
+ If You Think You're Lonely Now
+ Where Do We Go From Here

Interesting samples, always fun to have something new to look for. Nice vibe on some tracks.
+ Takeover
+ Heart Of The City (Ain't No Love)
+ Never Change
+ Song Cry
+ All I Need
+ Girls, Girls, Girls (Part 2)
Throwing Muses
2/5
I don't even remember the songs I found listenable. I listened to "In a doghouse" by accident, going by the album cover linked here. I think I liked that one better than the self titled one. That would've been three stars.
The Offspring
2/5
I liked the spoken intermissions! Plus that short hidden track at the end. Other than that, I didn't like it that much...
+ Time To Relax
+ Come Out And Play
+ Self Esteem
The Isley Brothers
3/5
Nice. I wonder why they have that pattern of having two parts to a song. Didn't know they covered Listen To The Music and Summer Breeze. That Lady is a banger.
+ That Lady
+ Listen To The Music
+ Sunshine (Go Away Today)
+ Summer Breeze
+ The Highways of My Life
Paul McCartney and Wings

I don't know, but maybe I'll rate it 4 stars. Had some nice songs. That one line from Picasso is still in my mind.

This was better than expected. I can imagine that this sounded new back then. I kinda like Caleb's voice. Didn't know they were a family band, omg. Only knew their radio singles.
+ King Of The Radio
+ Taper Jean Girl
+ Pistol Of Fire

Heard before. Really wacky and I love it.
Liked almost every song besides On On On On and Booming and Zooming.
+ Wordy Rappinghood
+ Lorelei
+ L Elephant
Radiohead
4/5
Kinda cool. Depression as an album. I would've loved this as a teenager.
Reminds me of James Blake, Low Roar and Sigur Rós at the beginning.
Liked almost every song, I think. I feel it.
Massive Attack
3/5
Heard before. I knew Unfinished Sympathy from some talkshow that used this as its intro, so I always think of that when I hear it.
Some chill vibes, nice trip-hop.
+ Blue Lines
+ Be Thankful For What You've Got
+ Lately
+ Unfinished Sympathy
Blood, Sweat & Tears

This was pretty nice. Liked all the crossovers with classical music and that Sunshine of Your Love part.
+ Variations on a Theme by Erik Satie
+ Sometimes In Winter
+ And When I Die
+ God Bless The Child
+ Spinning Wheel
+ You've Made Me So Very Happy
+ Blues, Pt. 2
Bonnie Raitt
3/5
Kinda like it for being... blues rock? Never heard much from that genre. Even if I couldn't pick a single song right now, I enjoyed listening to the album as a whole.
Plus that album cover slays.
Elliott Smith
3/5
Heard before. Not bad. Bye hits kinda hard.
+ Son of Sam
+ Everything Means Nothing To Me
+ In The Lost and Found

4/5
Childhood. My sister loved this one and played it all the time, so I have kind of a soft spot for it.
It has some good tracks. I like the cover. Back then I thought they looked like that all the time, bald and wearing suits.
+ Starlight

Was alright. I randomly heard Tell Her Tonight a day before listening to the album, and it kinda became my fave song from the album. Never knew what to associate with that name, now I know.
+ Tell Her Tonight
+ The Dark of the Matinée

3/5
First thought: ugh, how will I get through this? I already have depression!
But then it kinda clicked after the first few songs. I like the sound of the bass, the mood, the lyrics. Still a 3 though.
+ Another Day Full Of Dread
+ Death To Everyone
+ Knockturne
+ Song For The New Breed
+ Today I Was An Evil One

4/5
Theatrical rock isn't that bad! Heard before. Was a bit scared because of the runtime of each song, but they segued into each other while listening. Quite enjoyed it. So it was only right for him to be in Rocky Horror!
+ Bat Out Of Hell
+ You Took The Words Right Out Of My Mouth

Sometimes sounded like The Carpenters. Light and carefree and jazzy.

Didn't do it for me. Not much to say about it. Happy it exists, though.
+ Doctor Please

3/5
Heard before. Listened to the deluxe version.
Wellll, I'm not sure. I think I liked it more the first time I heard it, but this time...
One thing I like though is when they horse around, that's what I like about the Beach Boys too.
+ Forget That Girl
+ Band 6
+ Zilch (best one for Mr. Dobalina)
The Avalanches
3/5
Heard before. Really like the concept they went with, as in making an entire album with samples. Appeals to me.
Yet still a 3, because the songs don't stick with me. I've seen the video for Frontier Psychiatrist before. Like the album cover.
+ Two Hearts in 3/4 Time
+ Avalanche Rock

4/5
Heard before. Took me many tries to get through, still not quite through with it now.
I don't know why, but I kinda like it. Can't say why. The melodies are stuck in my head and it seems like a cool crowd, even if it's not from one show or all that live, apparently.
+ Southbound
+ Rosalie (Cowgirl's Song)
+ Massacre
+ Still In Love With You
+ Dancing In The Moonlight
+ The Boys Are Back In Town
Probably some more.
Liz Phair
3/5
Interesting album. Something I wouldn't listen to normally, but it kinda fit the mood I was in. Will probably link this to playing Uncharted forever now. Interesting voice and reminds me of indie movies with shoegaze soundtracks.

3/5
It's okay.
The Zutons
3/5
Might have to listen to again and I'll end up rating it with 4 stars. Started with energy and put me in the mood, felt like something new for me, which grabbed me. But ended up fizzling out by the end, maybe I didn't pay enough attention. Like the concept, though.
+ Zuton Fever
+ Pressure Point
+ Havana Gang Brawl
Metallica
4/5
Liked it. With the orchestral twist, it makes it much more listenable to me, because I often think of live albums as boring. I know, shame on me. I mean, I can listen to live versions and bootlegs of my fave bands, sometimes the songs end up sounding better than the studio versions.
Anyway. I think I enjoyed most of the songs. Has a twist to it. Hetfield's voice sounds a bit different here, but it fits.
Jorge Ben Jor
4/5

But that was about the best from the album. I liked some of the shorter experimental ones.

Heard before. I remember hearing Girlfriend one late night in the car while on vacation and that memory stays with me. A nice pop record, and the interesting thing is that all its songs are both in English and French. I think I like the French versions a bit more.

Heard before. It's okay. Long songs... but funky. I think I like By The Time I Get To Phoenix the most. But the album cover is iconic, I keep seeing it somehow.

2/5
Why didn't I like this? I couldn't really concentrate on it.
There were some good songs on it, but overall pretty forgettable for me. I like his other albums more.
+ Something In The Night
+ Candy's Room
The Bees
4/5
This was so good! Put me in a good mood. Perfect for chilling out.
I'd rather not type the eight songs I liked here, it would be too much. What I found funny was that I only had heard Os Mutantes a few days ago and remembered A Minha Menina!
Alexander 'Skip' Spence
3/5
Some interesting songs on here, I don't mind the unfinishedness/lo-fi feeling of it. The backstory behind it seems really interesting, with Columbia deleting it from its catalogue. Yet the songs didn't stick with me, maybe I'll have to listen to it again.
+ Margaret-Tiger Rug
+ Weighted Down (The Prison Song)
+ It's The Best Thing for You

This feels so much like blasphemy, rating it only 2 stars. Somehow I don't find this much accessible. Maybe I'll have to listen to it again someday.
+ Hey Joe (for the Flower Punk lyrics)
+ Stone Free
+ Purple Haze (for the importance of the JJBA franchise)

Interestingly different than Dummy. Sounds more depressing and more... aggressive. Deep Water is a new fave of mine though.

I always saved this one up and was so excited to listen to it, but... apart from Sledgehammer, Don't Give Up and Big, there wasn't much I was enjoying. I think I liked the self titled ones better.

I don't know why, but with this album, I always end up forgetting to write something about it. I've heard this three times by now.
What can I say, I kinda like it. This one's on track with all the other live albums from this list I enjoyed. I like the feeling of the audience being there, it's kinda ecstatic. Like almost every song on this.

5/5
Love Kate. Somehow I didn't know about the connected songs, about the "Ninth Wave". I listened to some interview concerning that and found it pretty interesting.
Love almost every song on this.
Running Up That Hill was how I first found out about her, after hearing it on the radio and finding out that my parents used to listen to her too.
Now, Waking The Witch is beautiful too with all those people dear to hear waking her up in the song. She's so creative and imaginative!
Radiohead
3/5
Heard before. I think I first heard it while cooking, my dad was watching Prince Philip's funeral. Weird. This time I was doing a study on British and Irish landscapes, which meant three hours of staring at pictures of desolate suburbs and... shrubs.
So depressing, oh god. But some tracks take me to another plane of existence.
+ Subterranean Homesick Alien
+ Karma Police
+ Fitter Happier
+ Climbing Up The Walls
+ No Surprises

+ Sweeter Memories
+ Breathless
+ The Night The Carousel Burned Down
+ Overture

This wasn't as bad for me as the reviews seemed to suggest. It is repetitive, but laying it on in the background while cooking was cool.
+ Planet of the Shapes
+ Impact (The Earth Is Burning)
+ Halcyon and On and On
R.E.M.
4/5
Kinda loved it. Liked almost all of the songs. This gave me a special feeling somehow. Sounds adjacent to the Smiths.
Solomon Burke
2/5
I feel so bad for rating this 2 stars. Maybe I should hear it again. Couldn't really pick a favorite song that stood out to me. I was stressed while listening to it, running to catch a bus.
Leftfield
3/5
Heard before. Listened to this while doing some work. Had some interesting songs that got me moving. My sister said some songs remind her of Uncharted, so that's a win :D

Really cool!
The last track with the really long drum solo reminds me of Whiplash.
A little hard for me to discern the tracks, since they kind of flow into one big song for me, but I still enjoyed each of them equally, hah.
Basement Jaxx
