Wow…I wasn’t expecting this. I’ve never really given these guys a fair shake because I’m not incredibly partial to metal but I was blown away. It’s not what I was expecting in the best way possible. Lots of melodic movements and themes, coupled with heavier riffs and shredding at times but not overdone. Really enjoyed this a lot! Standout tracks: Prowler, Phantom of the Opera, strange world

A much more mellow offering than usual from Beck but a hugely important departure in his career that maintains his roots but explores new directions. There are no bad songs on this album. Standout tracks: The Golden Age, PAper Tiger, Lost Cause

Coldplay makes music for wankers. It's like Wish.com Radiohead. Chris Martin is the chief executive wanker. The only time I enjoy Coldplay is when another artist covers them (see: Aimee Mann or Willie Nelson covering The Scientis ... absolute baner). There's just something so inherently drab about every note these guys play that makes even decent music on paper turn to shite as soon as it comes out of them. Standout Tracks: Yellow (and only for nostalgia sake, because it's the first song I ever heard by them and thought, "hey this is cool!" until I heard the rest of their mediocre drivel)

I've know for years, especially as a drummer, that Yes should be on my list to listen to and for some reason I've never listened to an album front to back. Today that changed, and WOWZERS, it was something fantastic. Really dug the Simon and Garfunkel cover too. Kept the spirit of the original but added that Yes flavor to it.

Not the Dylan album I reach for when I'm in the mood to listen to Dylan, but a pretty solid blues record nonetheless. However, "Queen Jane Approximately" the guitar is further out of tune than normal for a Dylan track, emphasized by the mid scoop on the guitar, and it kills the entire track for me. I know the true punks at heart and Dylan die-hards will say this is part of the charm but it's like nails on a chalkboard for me.

My absolute favorite Biggie album. He had a natural way of telling stories that seemed to just happen to rhyme. This was the first album I ever heard of his before every really being introduced to rap and I was blown away. It's no wonder he's considered one of the greats. My only complaint, as with anything Puff Daddy gets his hands on, is that there is no need for him to insert himself into most of these songs. Just produce the album and shut the hell up. You are not adding anything to the track by whispering "It's all good" twenty times. Other than that, it's a masterpiece.

Sinead had a wonderfully beautiful voice and this album is really well produced but a little slow in parts for me. Overall I wanted to like it more than I actually did, but the songs I did like, I REALLY enjoyed. Stand out tracks: I Am Stretch on Your Grave, Black Boys on Mopeds, Nothing Compares 2 U

While it may have been pioneering, cutting edge and the like almost two decades ago, it has lost most of that allure and does not stand up to the test of time. I found it boring and repetitive. Most of the songs where several minutes too long and would've been better received as a much shorter iteration. Electronic music is not usually my go to however, so I'm probably biased. That said, I couldn't really say I found any stand out tracks on this one. I really like the upright bass on Brown Paper Bag. Outside of that I can guarantee I'd never willingly listen to this album ever again.

I very much enjoy writing what would be considered nonsense music as well as listening to Tom Waits, early Modest Mouse, Destroyer, Ween, They Might Be Giants, The Books, Devendra Banhart etc. amongst other avant garde artists but this was something entirely different... The first track was fine. Track 2 felt like listening to a bunch of young kids starting a garage band that exclusively played acid jazz...very poorly. There was enough hints of brilliance spread throughout the record that I would be interested in exploring his other albums and material, however, this album wasn't it for me. Much like Andy Warhol himself, I don't understand the hype. It's certainly decent and had some good tracks, but I feel like you really need to be on drugs to get the full impact. Being stone cold sober, this really didn't do much for me. Standout tracks: Sunday Morning, I'll Be Your Mirror

This album is hauntingly beautiful. A wonderful tribute by a man at the end of his life to a life well lived. His revisiting of some classic Cash songs sound just as good as they ever did but with a slight more tinge of tiredness and sadness in his voice. The covers feel like someone who dug in to what made these songs special, pulled that out and twisted it to fit his own experiences to tell one last tale. An all-star cast of supporting musicians that seem to be helping give the old man one hell of a send off. One of this best albums, covers or otherwise. Big fan of the entire series of albums but this one in particular. Standout tracks: Hurt, Give My Love to Rose, Desperado

I was only familiar with the first track on this album, but I've been a long time fan of The Chemical Brothers in general. This was a cool look into their older material. I really liked the use of the "slap bass" element throughout as a melodic instrument in tandem with the more traditional bass. Seems to be a bit of a signature on this album and it was a solid choice. I'm not a big fan of electronic music that becomes too repetitive and doesn't seem to go anywhere. This was the furthest from that. There were a lot of section breaks and return back to earlier sections that helped keep the music fresh and seem more exciting. These guys are pros. The songs moved seamlessly into one another, so much so that I sometimes lost track of where one started and one ended. The entire album felt akin to an orchestral suite, where there are separate movements but they all feel attached to a bigger whole. A solid album. Stand out tracks: Block Rockin' Beats, Setting Sun, Lost in the K-Hole, Where Do I Begin

Overall, it was a fine album but I didn't hear anything truly special about this one. At times it sounded like if the Talking Heads took a less weird direction. Overall, it was mediocre. Everything was played well but nothing really stood out to me. Standout tracks: Mermaid Smiled, Dear God

Not knowing anything about the band, the first thing I thought was “wow this is very talking heads”…then I read the article and found out it is in fact 2/3rds of the talking heads… amazing. A pretty straight forward old school punk album. It was a decent listen but not my go to by any means. I enjoyed it enough but probably wouldn't reach for it again. Stand out tracks: Search and Destroy, I Need Somebody

First and foremost, Lewis was a creep, a pedo, a misogynist and probably a host of all other things. Based on that alone, I'll never listen to this ever again. However, in the effort to put those aside and rate this album based solely on the music...That said, there are a host of Black entertainers from that time who received a fraction of the popularity, based solely on the color of their skin that brought down the house and paved the way for this style of music to become popular. It was a solid 22 minutes and was probably very entertaining for the crowd present. Can't really sanction any of this, for the aforementioned reasons. Much like Elvis, he took popular songs and made money by exploiting them. Based solely on the music and the history, I'd give this a 5/5. Based on everything else, I'd give it negative rating if I could. I'll split the difference and give it a 2.

A very solid funk/soul album with some tender moments. The bass is bumping, the horns are blaring, and the harmonies are tight. Truly one of the greats of the genre; I can honestly say this isn't even their strongest album and yet it's a solid 4 from me. Stand out tracks: Shining Star, Yearnin' Learnin', Africano

I don't think I've ever listened to this album straight through ever, despite knowing I really really should have. An absolute masterpiece of hip hop. So many great features, and incredible production. Could do with less interludes, but that was how rap albums of the era were so I can live with it. Stand out tracks: So Fresh, So Clean, Ms. Jackson, BOB, Xplosion, Red Velvet

There's nothing objectively "wrong" with it, but I think that's the problem. It's very sterile music. The lyrics are vapid at best. There's no soul to it. Every single note seems like it belongs in a collector's case...to be preserved rather than enjoyed. Like most pop music, it seems like these songs were composed to appeal to the masses and that does absolutely nothing for me. Stand out tracks: Style, Shake It Off

Probably one of the more ground breaking albums of the mid-90s, which is saying a lot due to the sheer volume of incredibly influential albums happening at that time. Reznor creates so much tension that it's palpable and then completely pulls the rug underneath you with abrupt changes and soft, almost whispered passages. His understand of mood and dynamics is top notch. Like it's namesake, this album is what I imagine someone who is really going through it in life feels like before hitting rock bottom/the brink of insanity. Well performed and executed. A definite classic whether you enjoy the genre or not. The closing track has always been my favorite Nine Inch Nails songs and inspired one of the greatest covers to happen during my time on this Earth by the Man in Black himself, Mr. Johnny Cash. Well worth the price of admission. Stand out tracks: Piggy, Closer, A Warm Place, Hurt

A wonderful smattering of blues, rock, jazz and prog! The musicianship on this album, like most albums produced in the 70s is top notch. The composition is thoughtful and there's a lot of interesting play between the guitar solos and flute solos. A true classic. Standout tracks: Aqualung, Cross-Eyed Mary, Locomotive Breath

I had higher hopes for this album given what I had already heard from Jane's Addiction. The positive side is it's hard to imagine this was recorded in the late 80s. It has a very 90s feel to it and would have been on the edge of the new wave of what was to come. Lots of great vibes here but all the songs started to sound the same after a while. Great playing and overall musicianship, but it never really got there for me. Standout tracks: Jane Says, Mountain Song

Been listening to this album since it released almost 30 years ago. A true classic in Brit pop and the pinnacle of what a functional Oasis could achieve. Although Wonderwall is now certainly played out and has become a meme in its own right, it still holds up as a classic of its time. The entire album is a masterclass in writing catching hook-driven music that leaves you tapping your toes and singing along. Standout tracks: Wonderwall, Don't Look Back in Anger Some Might Say, She's Electric, Champagne Supernova (Really though, the whole thing is worth a listen or several.)

A very solid sophomore offering from the Talking Heads here, which is often tough to pull off. You can't hear a Talking Heads song without knowing immediately it's them. The sound is unique and ahead of its time. It's hard to find fault here but overall not my favorite of from their catalogue, especially with Remain in Light being a perfect album. Standout tracks: Thank You for Sending Me an Angel, The Good Thing, Take me to the River

The album was ok. I don't think it's as ground breaking as everyone claims but that may be from the perspective of looking back from present to when this was released. As with a lot of hip hop albums of the time, there were a bit too many skit interludes for my taste. Everything I've read about Lauryn Hill as a person has been pretty negative and I'm again trying to separate the art from the artist. That said, she's clearly talented but Wyclef and Pras did their fair share of the heavy lifting in the Fugees to make that album special. That seems to be somewhat missing on this album. It's good, but not great. Standout tracks: Doo Wop (That Thing), Can't Take My Eyes Off of You

This album is unlike any other Outkast album in that it's two solo albums collected into one, and I believe signified the end of Outkast as group. While each album "fine" it lacks the sparks that make Outkast great. There's definitely a loss felt on each side, by the absence of the other on many of the tracks. The tracks that standout the most is where we get the traditional Outkast vibe of both artists bringing their own flare. Unfortunately, there's just not enough there on either side for this to be anything other than mediocre. Stand Out Tracks - Speakerboxxx: Bowtie, The Way You Move, Flip Flop Rock, Stand Out Tracks - The Love Below: Happy Valentine's Day, Hey Ya, Roses

Not my kind of music but I can recognize the foundational importance of this record, setting the tone for the multitude of metal bands and genres to follow. The musicianship on this record is paramount, but I just wish there was more variety. Each song sounds pretty same-y to me and would like a bit more melodic variance. Judging this based on the time it was released though, I can see why it's deemed a classic.

I can see why people who were waiting for a new Zeppelin record at the time were maybe disappointed as this does stray further from their sound into what the sound would become in the latter years. A lot of heavy blues and folk influences on this one as we journey through many genres. That being said, it's still very much instantly recognizable as a Zeppelin record so I can't imagine any die hard fans being too upset. Not their best work by far, but shows a lot of growth in the band and willingness to explore. Standout Tracks: Immigrant Song, Tangerine, That's the Way, Bron-Y-Aur Stomp

Been waiting for a Nirvana album to pop up on here and well, here we are. There's so much I could say about this band and this album but I'll keep it short. This is a perfect recording. It not only showcased the band's appeal by stripping away all the loud noisy rock and showing the intimate side of the music itself. Cobain's vocals are raw, gritty, and full of emotion. Grohl's drums are scaled back to almost a whisper. The band plays almost exclusively non-hits and covers. The surprise guests were a lesser known band (The Meat Puppets) outside of Seattle instead of some monsters of grunge that everyone expected. It's a recipe for disaster for a lesser band, but Nirvana pulls it off and creates a haunting experience that has stood the test of time through the last 30 years. The final screams of Where Did You Sleep Last Night will haunt my memory for all eternity, as if Cobain were channeling every ounce of angst into one final agonal release. Stand out tracks: (All of them...but if I had to choose a few...) The Man Who Sold the World, Pennyroyal Tea, All Apologies, Where Did you Sleep Last Night

There's not much to be said here. Prince was a musical genius and talented beyond belief. Whether you love him or hate him, this is a perfect album with one of the greatest album closers of all time. Standout Tracks: Let's Go Crazy, Darling Nikki, When Doves Cry, I Would Die 4 U, Purple Rain

Wow. Having only ever grown up on 80's pop Genesis & Peter Gabriel, I had no idea that Gabriel-Genesis was Prog Rock! Color me surprised but in the best way possible. This was a *VERY* ambitious album by the group but pays off in a big way. The musicianship is top tier and the melodies are both haunting and beautiful. I really enjoyed the moments of soft introspective folksy tunes as well as the complete opposite full blown synthesizer prog. The lyrics are very out there but that's Prog for ya. You either love it or hate it. At different moments on the album you can hear hints of possible influences from their peers, from The Beatles to Rush to late stage Floyd. Completely enjoyable at every step. Definitely deserves a few more listens to really get a full feel for the breath and depth of this album. Standout Tracks: The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway / The Light Dies Down on Broadway, Carpet Crawlers, Lilywhite Lillith, The Lamia

I have no idea what he's saying and it doesn't even matter. The music and vibes transcend the need for understanding the lyrics. You can feel the soul in every single note being played here. Just some really solid blues with some very interesting instrumentation. Can't wait to listen to this again. Standout Tracks: Erdi, Savane, N'jarou

A timeless classic from one of the greatest folk duos of all time. There's nothing to say about this that hasn't already been say. It's gorgeous and introspective. Delicate and pointed. If you don't like this album, you may not have a pulse because you clearly don't have a heart. Standout Tracks: Honestly? All of them. Just listen to the whole thing. It's a masterpiece.

An incredible album from a tragic soul. Much like Van Gogh, Nick Drake suffered for his art and never saw the fruits of his labor during his lifetime. He influenced many of my favorite artists though, including myself. Could listen to this album over and over again. Standout Tracks: Pink Moon, Place to Be, Horn, From the Morning

I came to know this band and album through a friend I worked with back in the day who was obsessed with this band and album when it first came out. It was hot garbage then and upon having nearly two decades to reflect upon it, I can say, it remains as such. There are no redeeming qualities here. It's as if someone wanted to make the most annoying, nonsense album possible and this became the result. It's very much un-listenable for I'd venture 99% of the population.

So first off, I'm a fan of Zappa and weird music. That said, this was all over the damn place. I enjoyed the music enough to finish the entire album but can't say I'd ever listen to this again. I appreciate the satire of the album but a little more focus would have done wonders for re-play-ability.

This isn't my favorite offering from Oasis but it seems like it's a foundational album for the band. You can hear a more raw version of what their sound would become on the follow up "What's The Story Morning Glory?". Some strong songs on the album but again, it really seemed as though they were finding their sound on this one with a couple misses in the mix. Standout Tracks: Rock 'n' Roll Star, Live Forever, Supersonic, Cigarettes & Alcohol

Full disclosure, I became really burnt on this band in the 90's when Bittersweet Symphony was on the radio every 5 seconds. That said, i think they got a bum deal with the whole copyright issue. Speaking to the music, it's all very one-note rock and feels very samey throughout. There's one song that stands out in particular: "The Drugs Don't Work" which is a heart-breaking song and a very much overlooked song that saves this album for me. There's nothing inherently wrong with the rest of the album it's just there's very little variety for me which is kind of a bummer. Standout Tracks: Bittersweet Symphony, The Drugs Don't Work

Ray never disappoints, this was an absolute bop of an album. The horns section blaring, Ray's voice shining through...this is big band blues at its finest. It's hard to believe this album is 60 years old. The slower downbeat songs are somehow not overshadowed by the in-your-face over-the-top numbers and this is the real genius of Ray Charles. The man had soul for days. Standout Tracks: Let the Good Times Roll, It Had to Be You, Just For a Thrill, Come Rain or Shine

This album seems as though it belongs to a very specific era in time. It wasn't bad, it was just strange and very hectic. The music and singing were great, but it did not resonate with me at all. Likely wouldn't listen again.

I can appreciate it from a historical standpoint, however, it was a bit samey for me throughout and I likely wouldn't listen to it again.

Definitely a lot heavier than I typically enjoy, but this was a solid album. I enjoyed the "A-Side" more but overall there was a lot of cool riffs on this one. The drumming was locked in and kept pushing the album forward like a well oiled machine. The four second "You suffer" was ridiculous. The middle and back half of the album had some good scream-o but that's not my scene. Overall a mixed bag.

This was some great funky 80s dance music! Reminded me of The Cars meets Duran Duran meets Talking Heads. Love all the horns especially. Stand out tracks: Love Plus One, Milk Film, October is Orange (Day 1 & 2)

Wow. It's genuinely difficult to imagine this being created in 1978. It still feel fresh 40+ years later. I'm not a huge fan of electronic music, but this was a banger. Really cool tunes to throw on in the background while coding. Standout tracks: The Robots, Neon Lights, The Man Machine

A wonderful hidden gem I'd never otherwise have heard. Soulful, interesting instrumentation, folksy, bluesy, funky, r&b and everything in between. The dynamic range of the album in general along with the raw vocals make me miss the days of non-overproduced albums where everything needs to be "Fixed" to a fault. There's charm in warbly vocals that you just don't get today. Standout tracks: Down to Zero, Water With the Wine, Love and Affection

Man, Rush is a pretty polarizing group...you either love them or hate them. I'm in the former camp. Neil Peart has been one of my idols since I picked up a pair of drumsticks at the wee age of 11 years old. The man was an amalgamation of all the best drummers of the 60s and 70s and then some. I don't know how Geddy Lee can play those complicated bass/keys parts AND sing on top of it. Just a whole lot of dexterity and musicianship in that band. This album was no different. I like how the A-side sets up the themes for the rest of 20 minute song within the first 30 seconds. Even though it was so long it didn't feel like that long given the breaks in the track. Masterfully executed and just a general banger of a prog rock album! Standout Tracks: Just listen to the entire thing.

Another instance where you need to separate the art from the artist. Eric Clapton is famously a huge piece of shit. That said, this album is really great. Clapton is obviously a master at his craft and he's got an all-star lineup of musicians around him to add to the vibe. The Bell Bottom Blues drums nearly broke my brain in the best way possible. Overall, a solid blues album that is overshadowed by how massively popular Layla became (and for good reason). Standout tracks: I Looked Away, Bell Bottom Blues, Have You Ever Loved a Woman?, Little Wing, Layla,

A very cool melding of psychedelic + salsa. Definitely worth at least a single listen.

I'd expect nothing less than the best from Uncle Willie and this album did not disappoint. I wish more modern country music sounded like the old greats but here we are...still grateful to have Willie alive and kickin' out new tunes. That aside it's tough to do a concept album well but this was one of the good ones. The story was coherent, the themes reinforced, yet didn't feel stale or forced. Would definitely listen again and prompted me to dig deeper into his catalogue than I had previously. Standout tracks: Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain, Red Headed Stranger, Hands on the Wheel

A perfect mix of folk, bluegrass-influence, and psychedelic. A must listen for anyone who's a fan of any of those genres. Will definitely circle back to this one a few times. Coldplay is very likely my least favorite band ever. I've never sat through the entirety of this album before today and can honestly say without a doubt, that I do not care for them at all. The Scientist is a decent song when performed by others but hearing Christ Martin makes me want to vomit.

While parts became a bit repetitive for my taste on some tracks, it was well interesting enough to hold my attention. My only other prior experience was with the Virgin Suicides soundtrack, which was equally enjoyable. Would definitely be adding this to the queue to throw on while programming. Standout tracks: La femme d'argent, All I Need, Le voyage de Penelope

It's the best selling album of all time...if you don't think this album rocks, you're either a. Lying or b. Don't have a pulse.

As far as Dylan records go, it's not my favorite but it was solid nonetheless. Some absolute classics on this one. Standout tracks: Blowin' in the Wind, A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall, Don't Think Twice It's All Right

I wanted to like this more than I did because it's Prince, but it just seemed to be all over of the place (not in a great way). The music was great nonetheless because it IS Prince, but it just didn't move me like his other albums. Stand out tracks: Sign O' The Times.

I was introduced to The Smiths and Morrissey late in life so I feel like they don't have the same appeal to me as others. That said, the music is dope. Straight 5/5. Morrissey is a bit of a twat though and I could do without his overdramatic singing a lot of them. Still a solid album.

Having not listened to too much Wu Tang, I was eager to dig into this album. Definitely didn't disappoint. Beats were on point and heavy. Flows were tight and lyrics were interesting. Would need to give this a few more listens to really digest but on first blush, I'd definitely give this another couple spins. Bring the Pain, What the Blood Clot, Release Yo' Delf, Mr. Sandman

This was honestly a sleeper album for me. I've known about it for years but only bothered to really listen to the one track. Although it's older, it sounds fresh from a musical perspective and the message is still sadly relevant today. A solid piece of a old school hip hop that I'll definitely be returning to again. A solid album and the session musicians are super tight and incredible but there's nothing too special about this album. I did enjoy the cover of Fever, however there wasn't really anything new added to it so could probably do without.

Not my favorite Beastie Boys album but certainly nothing to scuff at by any means. Absolutely a masterpiece of sampling and pushing boundaries during the time in which that was much much more difficult than today. Really breakthrough stuff but again nothing super catchy or hooky enough to reel you in, like latter albums do IMO.

Very clean flow and tight beats. I could do with less of the talking interludes and "skits" especially since they're tacked on to the end of tracks and not easily skippable. Would've rated a 5 otherwise.

It's an old school Beck album...either you'll love it or you'll hate it. Lots of weird samples and lyrics. At first blush it sounds like chaos, but if you really listen it all comes together to create a coherent soundscape. Beck's always been one to push the limits and do his own thing. It's like if They Might Be Giants merged with the Beastie Boys. We need more musicians like Beck. Standout tracks: Devils Haircut, Lord Only Knows, The New Pollution, Where It's At, Ramshackle

A solid early 90s indie grunge album with hints of pop. Pretty decent but nothing outstanding that would make me need to come back for more.

In all it was a fine album, but piano jazz just doesn't do it for me. Technically speaking it was well performed.

The music and the harmonies are top notch and highly influential for the time. The lyrics leave A LOT to be desired. They're both *very* dated and pretty much saying the same thing over and over again. Makes for a boring listen. Definitely not my favorite offering from the Beach Boys.

This is the best "new" music I've heard in a very long time. This album slaps front to back. There's so many influences and yet it all feels cohesive. Not a bad track on the album. I thought I knew most 90s bands/albums worth knowing...turns out I was wrong! This is fantastic. I don't know about being bigger than Nevermind, but this album certainly has all the right vibes for the time period. Sounds a lot like Big Star but somewhat grungier? All in all, I dig it. Indisputably my favorite Talking Heads album. Every song is just full of energy and VIBES. You'd be hard pressed to find anything like this before or after their time. Not as strong for me as their first album. The first movement of the first song was pretty grating and annoying. After about the first 4 minutes it picks up and gets much better throughout. I listened to both the original version and the deluxe and have to say the second half of the deluxe is much better than the original pressing. All in all, it's very technically sound and has some interesting things going on but don't think I'd revisit this. Cool prog. rendition of America though on the deluxe! An absolute masterclass in old school hip hop. I can see the influences this spurned in many modern hip hop artists evidenced by just this one album. Sounded like a Jet rip-off but somehow worse? Just not into it, like at all.

Musically speaking, this album is incredible. I am NOT a huge fan of Mr. Kiedis' lyrics and a bit burnt out on Suck My Kiss and Give it Away, having grown up with them in the 90s. That said, not all songs are created equal on this album. While it's their strongest catalog offering IMO, there's still some duds. Could probably have shaved a few tracks off and had a much more dense banger to dud ratio. Standout Tracks: Breaking the Girl, Suck My Kiss, Give it Away, Under the Bridge, Sir Psycho Sexy

Would have given this 100 stars if I could based on the title track alone. Maggot Brain (the title track) is a masterpiece of emotions. If you're not moved by it, you may be dead. The rest of the album is just some good funk/rock. Highly recommend this album to anyone. One of my favs.

The album isn't inherently bad, but there's just a lot of the same stuff without much variety here. The hits are great and definitely carry the album, but it does nothing to further the glam/arena rock genre that at this point has become very dated and was even on its way out in the early 90s. Outside of Walk This Way and Sweet Emotion, there's not much to really see here. It's decent at what it does, but there were so many other records (in 1975 alone) that did what this does but much better.

What a beautiful voice! This album isn't the conventional "OMG you need to hear this!" but is more like a peaceful soundtrack to listen to while working or relaxing. This album has been a go to for me since my college years, many many years ago. It's hard to believe this came out in '94. It still feels fresh today. Infusing Hip Hop production with beautiful endearing vocals, it's a match made in heaven. The sampling is top notch and the atmospheric vibes deliver and experience of driving down a highway at 3 am with the windows down and the breeze in your hair. Incredible start to finish. Standout Tracks: (These were really difficult to pick but if I had to choose..) Mysterons, Sour Times, Wandering Star, Roads, Glory Box

Damn solid album with a whole lotta soul. Stand out tracks: Lively Up Yourself, No Woman, No Cry, Them Belly Full (But We Hungry), Natty Dread

This didn't do too much for me. This sounded like someone wanted to make a Cure album but wasn't sure how to do it. All The Way in fact sounds like the poor man's Just Like Heaven, immediately from the opening bass riff to the choice of melody and synths. It tries real hard but doesn't ever get there. It was an ok listen, but I don't think I'll be listening on purpose again.

This is probably my favorite Lips album and routinely get HEAVY rotation on my end. So many good songs and just a peak Lips for me. An absolute god damn masterpiece. Do You Realize is the existential question that I try to not reflect upon too often but it somehow poses it in a way that affirms the good things in life we need to do while we still have the time. Standout Tracks: Fight Test, Yosimi Battles the Pink Robots, Pt. 1, Ego Tripping at the Gates of Hell, Do You Realize??

A heavy-hitting debut album of one of the most iconic groups of the 60s-70s. Not a bad song on this album and such a unique VIBE even if you're not big on Morrison himself. This album is quintessential 90s listening. An absolute staple for the time. I would have given this 4 stars based solely on \"Strong Enough\" which is a damn masterpiece of a song, but luckily there's a lot of other strong tracks on this album to prop it up and even the not so great one's aren't too bad either. I'm astounded by the fact that I knew nothing about this album prior to today. There are no recognizable songs for me, and yet, this album has a vibe of familiarity and allure. Not hits -- just incredible vibes. Back to front, there isn't an ounce of disappointment or wasted space here. Will be revisiting the rest of Mr. Wonder's catalogue because I'm just in absolute awe of this man. Standout Tracks: Boogie On Reggae Woman, You Haven't Done Nothin', They Won't Go When I Go

It's very interesting to dive this far back into the Beatles catalogue as you can truly see the things that make them special were always there from the start. Just as solid as their later more popular albums, just more in line with the "standards" of the time. Standout Tracks: It Won't Be Long, All My Loving, Till There Was You

Oh my goodness, what an absolute gem this is! It's nice to see some newer albums making the cut here and I can honestly say this is the first album/artist I hadn't hear of before to get 3 back-to-back spins. This is insanely fresh and a wonderful mix of genres. Initial impressions were it sounds like a more Psychadelic Curtis Mayfield, but it quickly evolves beyond that to something entirely unique to itself. An absolute must listen. Standout Tracks: The whole album is really an experience, but if I were absolutely forced to pick out favorites... You Ain't the Problem, Rolling, Piano Join (This Kind of Love), Hero, Solid Ground

Musically it was very technically precise and interesting but listening-wise just missed the mark. I'm sure it was a blast to play though! Fell flat for me otherwise.

I mean, it's Zeppelin. Even if you don't like them you have to respect them. The musicianship is unparalleled and Bonzo on the drums is a god damn animal. The plagiarism may be strong with them which is shady and crappy, but the things they did with these songs are revolutionary. I try to separate the person from the music except in rare instances where it's absolutely fowl, so I stand by my rating. Absolute classic. Standout Tracks: Whole Lotta Love, The Lemon Song, Heartbreaker, Ramble On, Moby Dick

The record was decent but nothing to write home about. Not particularly sure how this landed on the list. The Intro was great but aside from that, the entirety of the rest of the album sounded like someone trying to continuously recreate Chris Isaak's "Wicked Game" from memory, getting close at times but at others just going into a tangent and getting lost in the sauce.

Love me same Joplin and only wish there were more! What a unique individual with a timeless voice. The whole album is a mix of rock 'n' roll and blues at its peak. The fuzz makes me insanely happy. Just a solid record front to back. Standout Tracks: Summertime, Piece of My Heart, Ball and Chain

Another bland offering from Miss Swift. I'm clearly not the target market here and while she's certainly extremely talented, as I said in my last T. Swizzy review, this is about as "written for the masses" as it gets. Nothing here appeals to me, which is fine. I can see why it's on the list given the impact to so many others but it's just not for me.

Pretty bland overall, not really much to write home about IMO.

The quintessential Radiohead album for me. The one where they finally found the root of their sound and you knew things were gonna get weird and wonderful (and they absolutely would with Kid A and Amnesiac to follow.) Just brilliant songwriting in a soundscape that felt new and exciting for the time. Meticulously crafted and layered to perfection. If you think this album is overrated, you're either lying or have had a lobotomy. Standout Tracks: Paranoid Android, Exit Music (For a Film), Karma Police, No Surprises

For what it is, it excels. However, that doesn't mean I'd re-listen to it again. The singles have been played into the ground and I'd rather listen to whatever new T. Swizzy drivel is playing 100 times than one of these songs once. Overall, it was a big risk that paid off big for the band. Good on them. Musically it's pretty simplistic like most punk, but it's refined and polished for mass consumption. I can see why this caught people's attention. It was fun and shiny and catchy when it came out. Looking back 20 years, I can't really stand to listen to it. Still deserves the rating in context. Standout Tracks: Jesus of Suburbia, Holiday / Boulevard of Broken Dreams, Wake Me Up when September Ends

This was a weird and unexpected journey into the mind of Iggy Pop. As everyone else pointed out, the Bowie influence is palpable throughout. This makes for a FANTASTIC journey through weird and wonderful soundscapes. Truly enjoyable and may be my favorite Iggy Pop album. Standout Tracks: Sister Midnight, Nighclubbing, Dum Dum Boys

This album was just "OK" and definitely doesn't belong on this list. Mediocre brit pop at best but offers nothing novel or interesting aside from 1 or 2 decent tracks. Standout Tracks: Comedy, Daniella

It's nice to see some Sleater-Kinney on here! This album was a good glimpse into what makes this band great...like a more aggressive Breeders, the band pulls no punches and delivers face punch after face punch with aggressive guitar and vocals. It's either your thing or not, there's little between. Standout Tracks: Dig Me Out, One More Hour, Words and Guitar

Not really a jazz dude, but as a musician I can appreciate the God-tier musicianship of those involved in making this record. This showcases Ellington's prowess as a band leader moreso than a pianist, which is fine, but overall, it was much more difficult to appreciate than a studio album given the sound quality. The horns were blaring and the drums front and center, but the piano was all but lost most of the time (assuming there was piano at all?). Overall not bad, but not something I'd actively seek out to listen to again.

Bowie is always a nice treat and this album doesn't disappoint. From the instrumental opener, even lacking words, you know this is a Bowie album. His style is very unique and timeless. Definitely an album you can listen to front to back without any regrets. Just great bangers. Standout Tracks: Speed of Life, Breaking Glass, Sound and Vision

Absolutely loved this album! It's rare to hear so much vibraphone let alone as a featured instrument. It's hard to imagine this is a live album as well. The clarity is outstanding and really feels intimate. Can't imagine seeing this in person; must have been a blast! The musicianship on this is top notch all around. Standout Tracks: Milonga Is Coming, Nuevo Tango, La Muerta Del Angel

Jay-Z is certainly one of the best in the game, but the production outweighs the flow on this one for me. Production is top-notch but bars feel same-samey. There's not a lot of content to be had here, but still some bangers to be had. Not the best Jay-Z album but still pretty solid. Standout Tracks: Izzo (H.O.V.A.), Heart of the City (Ain't No Love), Renegade

It's definitely an R.E.M. album which is clear from the first 3 seconds. While I can see why this would be a game changer and breakthrough at the time, it's not my favorite of what would be yet to come from the band. Solid tracks and certainly worth repeat plays but doesn't have the makings of Automatic or Monster. Standout Tracks: Finest Worksong, Exhuming McCarthy, It's the End of the World As We Knot It (And I Feel Fine), The One I Love

Classic Sabbath & Ozzy. I've loved this album since I was in middle school many many years ago. My mother had this on vinyl and I fell in love with it through her. Not a bad song on this album. Absolutely rips. Standout Tracks: War Pigs, Paranoid, Iron Man

One of the first jazz albums on this list that I enjoyed immensely. Might be one of the best I've ever heard. Interesting takes and each instrument gets the spotlight for solos without becoming a meandering mess of getting lost in the woods. Typically don't care for jazz that turns into self-masturbatory "I can play ALL the notes!" solos that get lost in themselves. This is the opposite. Tremendous musicianship all around and sticks with the theme of each piece in a way that sounds melodic and accessible throughout. Definitely will come back to this one! (Would give it a 4.5 stars if I could.) Standout Tracks: Part of a Whole, The Big Apple, Blues For Huey

You either love The Cure or you hate them. I don't think there's much middle ground. I'm in the former camp. This album was great and deserves a repeat listen. Still feels fresh even after all these years! Standout Tracks: Pictures of You, Lovesong, Lullaby, Disintegration

An incredible offering from The Lips! Might be on of my favorite albums of there's and if not, #1 without a doubt #2. This is the epitome of a Lips album to me. Standout Tracks: Race for the Prize, A Spoonful Weighs a Ton, Waitin' For a Superman, Suddenly Everything Has Changed

This was hit or miss for me. The first track (Tantos Desejos) the vocal on the long holds sounds couple semi-tones out of key which messes with my brain significantly. The second track (Você Gosta) is interesting but sounds like the mario star-power-up music during the syncopated bits and that's hilarious to me. The rest of the album was equally confusing. There were moments of "cool hip coffee-house-vibe" and then moments of "what the actual eff?". Not something I'd seek out and I couldn't make it through the entire album sadly.

Coldplay makes music for wankers. It's like Wish.com Radiohead. Chris Martin is the chief executive wanker. The only time I enjoy Coldplay is when another artist covers them (see: Aimee Mann or Willie Nelson covering The Scientis ... absolute baner). There's just something so inherently drab about every note these guys play that makes even decent music on paper turn to shite as soon as it comes out of them. Standout Tracks: Yellow (and only for nostalgia sake, because it's the first song I ever heard by them and thought, "hey this is cool!" until I heard the rest of their mediocre drivel)

The Band makes some good cozy country folk rock music. Like the folk-alternative to Skynyrd. Just an all-time classic band with some great tunes! They deserved more credit than they ever earned during their time. Standout Tracks: The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down, Up on Cripple Creek

I don't have a single bad thing to say about this album. The arrangements are beautiful. The mournful lyrics and delivery are peak Cohen. The sadness is palpable. It's heavy, as you'd expect, but it feels rather cozy. Standout Tracks: You Want It Darker, Treaty, Traveling Light, Steer Your Way

Alice Cooper is an under appreciated artist. This album like most of his work is masterfully crafted and has a lot of bangers. Had the pleasure of seeing him live a few years ago. For a dude in his 70s he put on one hell of a show. All energy for over 2 hours. Giving some of these newer acts a run for their money. At any rate, don't sleep on this album! Never really got into this back when it was released beyond Song 2 (which still holds up). The only other notable track was the opener (Beetlebum). The rest was pretty forgettable 90s British Alt Rock. Just didn't really hit for me, as much as I wanted it to.

Loved this even if it gets a bit slow at times. It has all the markings of a great prog album but also isn't afraid to veer into other themes and genres. I can see why this is a classic. Standout Tracks: 21 Century Schizoid Man, Epitaph

An incredible debut album that sounds like the group had figured out their sound years ago and was deep into their career. The standouts are obviously the singles, but the energy and harmonies carry the album in a way that is definitely pinpoint to the time period but still feels exciting. Standout Tracks: Monday Monday, Go Where You Wanna Go, California Dreamin'

The first thing I ever heard from Tortoise was their later collab with Will Oldham. That was a much more interesting album but this wasn't bad at all. The opening track was a bit of meandering noise that lacked a home base and went on a bit too long. However, the second track was by far and large the star of the album. All in all, it was interesting enough to hold my attention but not something I'd probably revisit again in the future.

What a pleasant surprise! This is a prime example of what this list is for ... I had no prior exposure other than the singles I've heard on the radio through the years. This doesn't sound like a debut album (in the best way possible.) It seamlessly transitions styles with ease and the production is top notch. While the single is the obvious choice, the rest of the album is a very enjoyable listen. Would definitely give this another couple spins. Standout Tracks: Space Invader, Kid, Brass in Pocket

Not much to say here...you either love it or hate it. I'm in the former camp. This is one of the easiest 5s I've given here yet. Absolutely timeless. Had the pleasure of seeing the Flaming Lips perform this in full at their New Year's Eve Freakout in 2010. Did not disappoint then either but you can't beat the original with a stick. If you're one of the people who enjoys shitting on this album, you may need to look deep within and ask "Am I the problem?". That may answer more questions than you're comfortable with but I promise you it's worth it on your journey to being a better human. Standout Tracks: Breathe (In the Air) Time, Money, Us and Them

An absolute BANGER of an album, but Nirvana never fail to disappoint. One of the best of the era and unfortunately we lost a legend too soon. It would have been very cool to see what direction the band/Kurt took after this. Based on the demos that have been released/leaked I have no doubt there was a lot of fanfare still left to come out. Sadly we'll never know. Focusing on this album however, we're immediately assaulted with noise from the beginning notes. The angsty in-your-face aggression assaults your senses and demands your attention. Betwen Grohl's heavy-handed drumming, Kurts screeching guitar and wailing vocals and Krists relentless bass, you're in for 41 mins and 27 seconds of pure rock. All Apologies leaves you on a more somber note and is a fitting bookend to a very raw, very abrasive rock album. One of the bests. Standout Tracks: Scentless Apprentice, Heart-Shaped Box, Dumb, All Apologies

I'm probably biased because I grew up with this album and it was a staple of my youth, but this is a certified banger of an album. All thriller, no filler, in your face punk rock. I remember hearing When I Come Around for the first time and thinking "I will never get tired of this song", and while I've said that many times throughout my life, this is one of the few that holds true. 30 years later and it's a never-skip song. Not a huge fan of modern Green Day, but this album absolutely slaps and always will. Standout Tracks: (The whole thing, but if you twist my arm...) Longview, Welcome to Paradise, Basket Case, She, When I Come Around

I've always bought into the opinion that these guys are cheap Radiohead imitation and while that's evidenced by tracks like City of Delusion, after listening to this album front to back my opinion has softened. The musicianship is tremendous on this album and there's quite a few bangers here. That said, I don't think I'd regularly listen to any of their stuff. It's good but loses a bit of the rock edge in the sauce. Everything seems too neatly packaged for what they're attempting: a raw rock album. Is it good? yes. Is it great? Nah. Standout Tracks: Supermassive Black Hole, City of Delusion, Knights of Cydonia

This was a lot more Americana than I realized it. +1 for all the banjo hanging out in there. Overall, a very chill cohesive album that I'd definitely listen to again. Standout Tracks: Take It Easy, Witchy Woman, Most of Us Are Sad, Peaceful Easy Feeling

Solid album from an artist I've never heard before. Would've gotten a full 5 but it became a little too much of the same by the end. Regardless, the music remained interesting throughout. Hints of David Bowie, Destroyer and Jeff Buckley. Standout Tracks: Jupiter and Teardrop, The Hook, Dixie Drug Store
