After losing his virginity, and narrowly avoiding the cops our protagonist lays down on his bed. He puts his headphones on, smirks at the ceiling, and an arcade fire song plays as we fade to the credits. The scene could be at the end of any coming of age movie, and any song from this album. If you think that's an indictment of coming of age movies and this album, you're wrong, watching a coming of age movie is at least fun.
Super Bird was my favorite, the rest felt strong enough to enjoy listening to. I'm sure it I was smoking while listening, it would have been even better.
Solid 3 star album with 5 star song.
Heh, cameltosis. Honestly, "freak on a leash" and "got the life" barely pulls this into 3 star territory. And this coming from somebody who actually likes Korn.
This album doesn't start like a batout of hell! By the time I got to love by a dashboard light, I was singing along with it at full volume. My dog was not impressed.
Dear diary: Song 9 out of 28, I thought when I started this album I might enjoy it. So far no enjoyment found.
Dear diary: Song 18 out of 28, I think my eyes are going cross, and my brain hurts.
Dear diary: I'm tired boss.
A quiet album with lots of emotion. Not especially my thing, but I feel like I wouldn't mind it while eating dinner at a wedding. I feel like there should be a way to do two and a half stars.
I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. "Fuck me pumps" was my favorite. Another need for a 2.5 start rating.
Okay, to start off, I had then missed up in my head with velvet revolver. That didn't help the fact that this just isn't music that I typically enjoy. At least it's not "napalm death"
Very easy album to listen to, with some outstanding songs that really bring back nostalgia for me personally. My parents loved Crosby stills Nash& Young, so horse with no name brings back a lot of memories every time I hear it.
This album was definitely not what I thought it was going be. I had only heard schools out before now, and I think very few of the songs had that sound. Particularly Blue Turk caught me by surprise. Otherwise , I really enjoyed it.
Easy to listen to, but not to spectacular.
This was like 3 hours of songs I'm not allowed to sing along too. I've never been into jayz, but this was a quality listen.
Never heard of them, but they are definitely entering my rotation. This album was exactly what I needed yesterday.
20 years ago, I took a history of jazz class. When I learned from that, was that I don't like jazz. 20 years later I still don't.
Maybe I would have liked this better if I could speak French. Otherwise probably never listen again.
"this fire"is a banger, on top of that, a solid album.
There is no doubt in my mind that he is a masterful song writer. I just hate his singing voice.
Love this album. I swear, I'll just randomly get Alabama song stuck in my head. I don't know what that says about me.
There's something about the Beatles, it makes me smile when I hear there hits. I don't really go out of my way to hear them, but I will never turn the station when they're on.
Not only is this the best reason for a whole group of guys in a car to shout out. \"Leonard Bernstein\" all at the same time. But it's a damn fine album as well.
Not sure if it was Island music or what.
Great album, couple hits, ends weird.
Not going to kick this one out of bed for eating crackers.
It's just an amazing fucking album.
Why am I soft in the middle when life is so hard? This would be a solid 2 without call me al.
Just on there verge of me liking it. It's okay, but not great, the whole time.
Everything but "song 2" feels like album filler. Would I dig this album out, just to hear "song 2" for two minutes and two seconds? Probably not.
This works for like a 30 second montage in a movie. An hour and a half of it, is just... Boring.
Jesus, I thought I was going to be stuck on that elevator forever. I was about to pick out a pee corner.
I liked it, probably would like it more if I understood it. But I still kind of liked it.
I can't pick out any individual song, but enjoyed the album as a whole listening experience.
I don't know what to say about this album. A rocking album, fortified with the one of the greatest songs of an all time. Even when it's not Freddie, it's still awesome.
Bluesy riffs were awesome, and the guests mixed it up in a great way
Man this guy has some pipes! Very soul full and pleasant album to relax too, or dance with someone special. Some great covers too.
Fun listen, and some food tunes. Probably won't seek it out, but wouldn't kick it out of bed for eating crackers.
This album got better as it went on. Starts at a 2 star, and finishes at a 3. The last song was a little week, but not bad.
I feel like I'm getting a lot of three stars albums, yet here we are.
This album ain't nothin to fuck with.
Fun fact, somebody burnt my high school down when I was a sophomore. As seniors the student body voted on firestarter to be or class doing. The faculty said no, and went with our second choice "good riddance". Other than that, I really like this album, and it really gets you into a groove when coding, out doing other need shit.
"Drink scotch whiskey all night long, and die behind the wheel"? WTF?o didn't know steely Dan went that hard. But seriously, get me off this elevator.
Sledgehammer is a great video...
Not something I would seek out, but damn, I wasn't mad at it!
Me and the 1001 albums guy have drastically different ideas about "must hear before I die"
Bad of the land was better
Go fuck yourself 10001 albums.
Not bad, I remember my buddy in junior high listening to this all the time. I didn't get it then, but can understand and respect it a little now.
Not my favorite Zeppelin album, but a solid listen nonetheless.
Intellectually, I understand it jazz and it's complexities. I just don't like to listen to it that often.
TIL renegades of funk is a cover. This kind of music was like just before my time, and my household was never really exposed to it. I kinda missed out.
Not good man, just not good.
Tried, but couldn't finish it.
You like cars? You like rock? Have I got a song for you! You like shit burning to the ground? You like rock? Have I got a song for you! You like space ships and truck drivers? You like rock? Have I got a song for you. You like 2 minute long drum solos? Have I got a song for you!
I feel like, if they are the division in charge of spreading joy, they are doing a bad job. Nothing in that album soaked joy.
Some super iconic songs, and a bunch of filler.
Meh, but the"rough and the quick" caught me off guard.
I thought 3 stars, but John says it should be 3.7 "because it's just chill"
I missed a lot of this kind of stuff in the 80s and 90s. I just want really exposed to it. It's a pretty fun listen for more than just "mamma said: knock you out" which is the only one I've heard before.
Jesus that album is a wild ride! I haven't seen Tommy for 25 years, and kind of forgot you know? 4 stars before I put it away for another couple of years.
Not bad, but a whole album of it, is a little much for me.
2 stars if it shipped without a vocal track. Otherwise one star.
I really liked this album, and the little fake commercials were really fun.
Pleasant album to listen to, with some okay covers. Do what the man says, and just relax.
Really fun album, with some bangers.
Not bad, not great, but not bad.
I tried, I honestly tried.
Pretty meh, i know some of you Brit poppers might think higher of it, but just meh for me.
Interesting for the iron Man cover alone.
Gang bang is an interesting listen when your 14 year old daughter is in the back seat...
My uncultured mind can't separate this from elevator music.
Solid album, even if U2 is in the fringe of the spectrum of music I like.
I'm not sure if I liked it or not...
And enjoyable album, with a couple of really great songs that stick in your head. All in all pleasant to listen to.
I remember this album from the 90s, but i don't think I ever put together on my mind how good it was. I'm sure I slept on it because it was "chick music".
I found myself shipping songs, and being meh on others. I don't think that's a positive review.
In flip flop rock, he mentioned Commander Picard. At the time the song was released, Picard was a captain. Otherwise, no notes. Also, these guys be horny as hell.
Not a bad listen, but nothing outstanding
I actually enjoyed that more than I thought I would. I probably won't ever listen to it again, but glad I did at least once.
What did fucking beta bands sponsor this thing?!
Maybe I just didn't get it....
I think she should get a divorce, she just doesn't sound happy...
2 stars, because, at least it's not can.
Maybe if you have a master's in music or something, this is great to listen too. But since I'm a basic bitch when it comes to music, this was a good to get through.
He's the king for a reason, but this album was surprisingly slim on the hits
Ever since I was a teenager, I've hated Rod Stewart. I don't know why, and it's irrational. That being said, there are some decent songs of on this album.
Great album, and everybody know in the club is a banger.
Who would win in a wrestling match, Lemmy, or God?
I know some people don't like live albums, but it kind of adds to the rawness of Motorhead, on my opinion.
Such a fun listen, even the "non hits"are pretty great.
His voice lends itself to this kind of soulful music. While not the kind of music I typically seek out, I'm never mad when I hear it.
I've always known OF B.B. King, but never knew ANY B.B. King. This album was a very cool listen, and "how blue can you get" goes hard, but I'll probably never seek out this album again. Just didn't have anything that really hooked me.
Based on mambo Sun, and seeing bang a gong on there, I thought I'd enjoy the whole album more, but it turned out to just be so-so.
I've decided I don't like the birds, and their version of "hey Joe" takes all the soul and feeling from the song, and just kinda forgets about it. And 16 minutes of some interview of them at the end of the album? Totally unnecessary.
Look, this was fine for background music if I was like eating dinner or something. This would never be anything I would spend money on. In fact, the album ended, and Google started throwing random shit on there, and I didn't even notice.
This was fine, I guess if I was high, and not doing anything it would be great. But neither of those things are the case right now. Bummer.
It was an okay listen but nothing really struck me, or stuck out
A soulful voice and I thought the song "everybody knows" was really good. The album flower well, and was an easy listen.
Nice album to listen too, and Mr Blue sky is a fantastic song. On a personal note, my mom loved elo, so they'll always have a place in my heart.
A hard driving rock album where every song is just good enough. Unfortunately it lacks any real zip, that would bring me back to listen to it again.
What's love got to do with it, and we don't need another hero are tunes that anybody growing up in the 80s and 90s will have heard a million times, and probably still love! The rest of album is carried by Tina's powerful voice and force if personality.
Who the fuck is Gary Gilmore? Anyway, not a bad punk album I guess, just nothing to write home about.
Hard and fast, just how I like em!
This is a sound I would have liked when I was 14.
Not bad, but lacking a the start rating.
I kinda dig it. It would totally be fun to go to a dive bar, and get hammered too.
Dancing queen is obviously a good song, but the rest of the album, just isn't my thing. I'm sure it has a brief place in time and history where it was relevant, but I was never around for that time and place.
A couple mild hits dragged down by the album
This album never really hit the mark of what it was going for in my opinion. At least that's the way my inexpert opinion feels about it.
Great voice, Excellent to eat dinner too.
I didn't mind this album, till I got to "don't". It felt like a departure from the rest of the album, and a departure I didn't like one bit.
If I were a young girl in the 90s, going through my own juvenile love shenanigans, this album would really speak to me. As I am not, and never was, it's a little of a slog to get through.
Celebrity skin his pretty hard for the first song, and whole the album doesn't quite reach that height of power, they still rock pretty hard.
I never seem to know what to do with a spoken word album like this. I really enjoyed it this time, but have no desire to listen to it again. The story is a nice slice of life that you are better off having heard, but don't need a repeat.
Aside from the hits, I'm a sucker for car and songs, and this album has 2 of them. Even if ss 396 sounds like it's straight off of a beach boys album.
Was just not in the mood for this, and skipped most of the songs half way through, when it was clear it just wasn't something I liked.
I expected.... More,I guess.
Short with a high proportion of covers.
I feel like there are other bands that have done this much better.
Fun, fast, leaves you wanting more. Great punk album.
The music was okay, but didn't really have anything for me to latch on to.
By my calculations, this album is 71 minutes and 3 seconds long. I lost any enjoyment from it about 45 minutes in.
Classic album with a couple staple songs from the nineties. Even a white kid in the whitest City around was pretty familiar with this album.
I mean, it's the stones man. I will say, following home shelter with love in vain, is a choice. It kind of killed the momentum for me. But it finishes with one of the greatest songs in rock and roll.
It's hard, it's fast, and it's loud. Nothing really stands out as "amazing" to me, but if you like this kind of music, it's a pretty good listen.
Not a bad listen, but nothing that really rocks my socks off.
Well I didn't not like this album, I'll probably never listen to it again. It's just not really my thing.
A great album to rock out too. Would have been great to hear live at a dingy bar with a bad sound system and sticky floor.
Not a bad ride, and now I know where big mouth Billy bass got his favorite song.
Great guitar, but his voice reminds me too much of Rod Stewart. He loses a whole star for that
I've never heard an anthrax album all the way though. It's pretty awesome.
Highway Star is one of my favorite song of all time. This album also has a little ditty call smoke on the water, which I think is pretty popular. Not a very long album, but what it has super impactful.
Fantastic album with probably half of it being the best song on some soundtrack or another. I don't know if I love the order of the tracks, but free bird is about the perfect way to end any album.
Not really a fan, none of it really hit me in a way that I think good music should. No concrete reasons just a gut feeling.
She has an amazing voice, she's like the opposite of Bob Dylan. None of her songs resonate with me but her voice is amazing.
I got about 45 minutes in, and realized, this is just not for me.
A two star album with a 4 star song. Mostly forgettable without "all I want to do"
I understand they are "experimental"and"influential", but there was very little I liked about that listening experience.
A double CD of this dinner music? One CD is enough I'm done.
I would call this album pretty kickass, but not great.
Maybe I'm not British enough to get this one....
I feel like there could have been the beginning to something good here, but it just fell short.
Two absolutely killer songs, and the rest weren't bad. Tonally, I feel like the album jumped around a little more than I like. But all in all pretty strong. Would give it like a 3.7 stars if I could.
Solid album, but nothing super fantastic. Barely pulling a three star. Probably closer to it 2.9, but I'm rounding up.
Dude, is fricken dookie. Stef said it should be a10 out of 10. She didn't listen to it though. I did.. all by myself.
Solid album, nothing spectacular.
Love this album, songs are fast, to the point, and awesome. Solid 4 stars!
Jim Morrison's crooning can elevate any song, unfortunately the only song I really liked was Roadhouse blues.
First song is 17 minutes long fuck out of here.
Not my thing, I only made it about four songs in before I was done.
Pretty good first album, but I believe toxicity is way better.
Every time I hear a kinks album it's never what I think it's going to be.
Not a bad album for sure, but I feel like there are much better stones albums that could be on this list. I'm starting to recognize that pattern with this list.
One of the best metal albums, wait strike that, best albums of all time. Starting it with war pigs, and hammering through paranoid and iron Man, makes it a classic on its own. Even the lesser know like planet caravan, and electric funeral are real bangers. Also, special mention to Jack the stripper/fairies wear boots. It's had a special place in my playlist since high school, didn't know why, other than awesomeness. This totally goes against the pattern I saw yesterday.
Let me paint a picture for you. 1985 Buick century. 2 tone, tan and brown. Windows down. Hysteria on the cassette player. 16 year old me loving life. Some real bangers here, in the 80s and 90s, I love them, but I'm not sure they've aged super well. Doesn't matter, still know all the words to put some sugar on me.
This is another one I wanted to like, but just really didn't care for.
To my untrained ear, these albums have to have something special to stand out. This one really doesn't. I feel like a one star is too little, but a two star is too much. So, I'm just gonna drop it a two star, and never listen to it again.
The Humpty dance is truly a wonderful memory for my job. Everything else was just, okay.
It was fine. I guess. It had such a nondescript sound, that I listened to three songs from different bands past the album before I realized.
Could have been worse. I kind of enjoyed one or two songs, but the rest were kind of too long and forgettable.
Better than I thought it was going to be.
That album listed a whole lot of ass, but I feel like they've got better ones out there.
I feel like I've heard it before, and heard it better. Maybe he inspired the other ones, or maybe he's a cheap knockoff. Either way, I'm done thinking about it.
