Strong 80's vibe is present. But not in a bad way. My experience with Rush is very limited for some reason but anyway this listening experience was actually very nice.

The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion
4/5
Hard shit! 32 songs in one album. Ok, half of them are bonus tracks... :D Gotta love it!
David Bowie
2/5
Boring. Not the best Bowie to me.
Neil Young
3/5
5 songs is enough to me from Young. Whole album is just too much of whining... But those 5 songs are good.
Nightmares On Wax
3/5
Excellent background music for working.
Can
1/5
Better suited for background ambience than focused listening. Album is too slow for me. More pace needed. Also it gets a bit too weird for me in the last couple of songs.
Eminem
2/5
Classic album has not aged very well... The soundscape is irritating, and especially the ticking sound of the bass drum really gets on my nerves.
Curtis Mayfield
3/5
Start was good but then it went to a boring side.
Dusty Springfield
5/5
Dusty is onece again artists that I have heard a lot, but mostly in some compilations or soundtracks. Anyway I have liked what I hear every time. It was a very pleasant experience to listen the whole album this time. So ten points.
Hookworms
1/5
Totally new band to me. Once again first half of the album was better than the last. More or less nondescript music for me. No points.
The Dandy Warhols
1/5
So not my thing.
Brian Eno
1/5
This is too ambient for me. After discussions with the wiser ones I understood the meaning of this album in this list. But still. Not my thing.
Fats Domino
3/5
Pretty much unremarkable. Neither good nor bad.
Solomon Burke
2/5
Once again, boring and uninteresting music for me.
Black Sabbath
4/5
Back in basics. This album has been spinning on my analog and digital turntable for years. Not the best Black Sabbath to me as an album, but still very good.
I don't know if it's Ozzy's voice or Iommi's guitars but Black Sabbath goes never to backround-music -category. It is always music that needs to be listened.
The Smiths
2/5
The Smiths hasn't been part of my music listening life ever. And when I listen to this album I really understand why. I need more distorted heavy guitars and Morriseys singing has never been my cup of anything.
Baaba Maal
3/5
At first I was like wow! But then it got too monotonous until it started to improve and get more interesting towards the end. I have never heard about this artist before, so once again this list proved it's existence for bringing me new experiences.
Arcade Fire
1/5
Indie rock whining. Not my thing. It was very hard to listen the whole album. Once again, I found myself wondering what merits earned this album a spot on this list. The reason may be the amount of the albums sold...

Upbeat and smoothly flowing music. Not indie whining, but more energetic rock. I liked it. Quite a lot, actually.
Fleet Foxes
2/5
My interest in folk music exists, but it is very selective. I had never heard of this particular artist before, so I eagerly anticipated pressing the play button. However, within the first couple of songs, disappointment was already palpable. Too slow and too atmospheric. This band was described in spotify to be part of late-2000s indie-folk boom. Also it was described as folk-rock. I found very little folk or rock there, indie maybe. Once again, maybe this is part of this list because it sold so well. Few songs started in an intriguing way but then there was nothing else.
Michael Jackson
4/5
Last time I listened this album must have been in the early '90s. I think I didn't notice the bass and guitar riffs back then. They are actually pretty cool. Also you can have mixed opinions about mr Jacksons singing style and voice, but somehow this album works to me right now. That funkish groove is there and it hits me. Only few of the last songs in this album lowered it's stars in my mind.
The Human League
2/5
This list has proven it's value for me once again. Only song that I knew from this album was Don't You Want Me and I can sing it along. I wasn't even able to name the band that has made it. Now I'm much wiser, thanks to this list. Otherwise, this synth pop is not so much my thing, so two stars for that one song.
Joy Division
1/5
American Music Club
1/5
Terrible to me. Hard to listen. I don't even know did I listen all songs...
Nine Inch Nails
4/5
NIN has always been in the edge of my musical interest zone. I don't know why. Maybe because other artists took my whole interest back then. My first contact to the band was when I played Quake and fired all the Nine Inch Nails towards my enemies :)
So now I listened the whole album from start to beginning first time for a very long time. And I liked it. There was a duller phase in the albums mid-section, but then it kept getting better and better until it reached Hurt. What an ending to an album. But that dull phase lowered my rating one star.
Songhoy Blues
2/5
Dire Straits
3/5
First I was like Yeah! Then I was like Booooooring... Sultans of Swing saved something. That's all.
The Police

Not the best album in the world, but still ok. Wouldn't listen this by my own. Glad that it sounds good and Sting can sing. Over and out.

AC/DC
3/5
I’m not in the mood to list clichés about AC/DC. In my opinion, the album is good, though quite monotonous. Then again, so is the whole band. Their musical formula is undeniably simple and repetitive, but at the same time, it’s their trademark – the riffs, the rhythm, and the voice of Bon Scott (for me, Bon Scott has always been the real one).
Prince
2/5
Uh
Muddy Waters
2/5
Got the idea why this album is on this list, but anyway it's no good. At first, I was like “yes, this is going to be great,” but then I ended up being disappointed. Repititive and a bit boring.
That Mojo did not work for me...
Echo And The Bunnymen
1/5
This is type of music (post-punk, new wave...) does not hit me at all. Sounds are metallic and dull. Singing is just whining once again. No points.
Khaled
2/5
This kind of music is tough for me. Like a lot of folk styles, Raï sometimes leans into a disco vibe, and when it does, I just can’t get into it. There were a few songs on the album that really clicked with me, but there was also a lot of that disco stuff I didn’t like. And that cover of ‘Imagine’? It just didn’t work for me. The two stars I gave are just for the few ‘original’ songs I actually enjoyed.
Jimi Hendrix
5/5
It's been a while since I last time listened to Jimi. Goddamn this album sounds good! Nothing to add, loved every minute. For some reason Gypsy Eyes hit me hard this time. The groove is relentless, and Jimi’s guitar work on that song feels so raw and funky.
Depeche Mode
3/5
I’ve never listened to a full Depeche Mode album before, and now I’m wondering why—I’m really liking this. I’m usually not a huge fan of this kind of electronic music since it’s often too slow and polished for me, but this album actually hooked me in a way. That said, it started to fall off toward the end, which cost it a star or actually two in my ratings.
Bruce Springsteen
1/5
Bruce falls into the background music category on my list, which is why I don’t have much to say about this album.
The Doors
3/5
Doors are okay, but they’re not my favorite. However, they do remind me of the fond moments spent at the local library, listening to their albums back in the days. That nostalgia is what earned this album its third star.
Tito Puente
2/5
Bob Dylan
4/5
The moment I hit play, it felt like the perfect time for Dylan. I enjoyed it from start to finish. Sure, it’s somewhat monotonic—some might even call it boring—but this time, it resonated deeply with me.
Duke Ellington
2/5
If I understand correctly, this album holds a remarkable place in recording history, which likely explains why it’s included on this list. It’s also incredibly easy to listen to, and when someone mentions jazz, this style is exactly what comes to mind for me. That said, I nowadays lean more toward modern jazz in my personal jazz listening. Still, this album is undeniably entertaining and expertly performed—I really have no criticisms to offer.
Rush
3/5
Rush is firmly on the OK side of my musical taste—good, but not quite enough to make me piss sunshine. Three stars, done. On a funny note, though, the 20-minute opening track features a riff around the 18:20 mark that’s strikingly similar to the opening riff of Dingo’s song Rio Ohoi.
Guns N' Roses
2/5
It may have been 20 years since I last listened to this album, and it was never really my thing. It’s ok, but nothing more.
Hole
2/5
And once again, an album I haven’t listened to in a looong time, probably around 20 years. It brings back a wave of nostalgic memories, but that’s about it. A few hits, nothing more to me.
My main issue with this band has always been their lack of clear direction. They seem unable to decide whether they want to create radio-friendly pop or lean into grunge, resulting in a blend that often feels somewhat uninspired. The lyrics are sharp and hit their mark, but for me, that alone isn’t enough.
Arctic Monkeys
4/5
I’ve never listened to a full Arctic Monkeys album before, until now! It was the perfect soundtrack for this Friday morning. This album had the right energy and enough hooks to reel me in. 4 stars.
The Cars
1/5
Bubblegum pop, as Spotify calls this band, isn’t my thing. Getting through this album from start to finish was a real struggle.
Elvis Costello & The Attractions
1/5
Megadeth
1/5
I had completely forgotten just how simplistic and uninspired this album is. Also the sound quality is terrible: flat and lifeless. Definitely not worth revisiting.
Pixies
1/5
Alt rock. Not my thing. Thanks. Bye.
Fleetwood Mac
1/5
Once again, this album highlights a key reason for this project: to explore albums I wouldn’t normally listen to. Still, not my thing.
Johnny Cash
4/5
Johnny Cash’s music, as a whole, may not be overflowing with intricate hooks or vibrant melodies, yet it has an undeniable way of resonating deeply with me. His singing style is often described as monotone, even bordering on dull by some, but I find something profoundly compelling in its raw simplicity. I don’t mind the lack of vocal flourishes or elaborate instrumentation; in fact, in this case, I love it. There’s something about his music that feels honest, unpolished, and deeply human, and that’s what makes it so special to me.
Hanoi Rocks
3/5
Even though it’s a Finnish band, I’ve never really been a huge fan of Hanoi Rocks. And I think I haven't even listened this album through ever. On this tuesday morning it sounded groovy and joyful. I kinda like. 3 stars.
The Vines
1/5
100% background buzz to me. Wikipedia says "The Vines were frequently compared to Nirvana". I totally disagree.
Aretha Franklin
4/5
Smooth
The Pogues
3/5
At first, I was like, “Nah, I don’t have the stamina to sit through a whole Pogues album.” But then, somehow, I did! I probably won’t do it again anytime soon, but honestly, it wasn’t bad at all.
One thing I’m really allergic to is fade-out endings in songs. This album had a few, and while I get that it was a common practice in the ’80s, it still brings the rating down for me.
Beatles
1/5
Luckily these songs aren't longer, but still there is a lot of them. Just saying that Beatles is not my thing. But for sure this is better album than Abbey Road. And once again faded ends in some of the songs. Can't stand it.
Jorge Ben Jor
1/5
Too much bossa nova. Thank you. bye
Public Image Ltd.
1/5
I’ve never listened to this album before, and now I understand why. It’s just not my thing. Feels like pretentious, fake-artistic nonsense.
Peter Gabriel
4/5
I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this album. It’s incredibly entertaining and groovy. Yet again, another album I had never listened to before! Almost five stars, first few songs lowered one star, because there is no option to lower only half a star.
The Flaming Lips
2/5
A few times, I thought the album was finally picking up, but it never did. It felt too slow and boring for my taste. Anyway, two stars for those few times.
Pixies
3/5
Wu-Tang Clan
5/5
There are only a handful of albums that truly define my musical taste, and this is undoubtedly one of them. This album is a masterpiece that reshaped hip-hop and set a new standard for the genre. Simply put, this album is solid gold.
The Flying Burrito Brothers
1/5
Nothing to say, just bullshit.
Ozomatli
2/5
There was no full album available in Spotify, and those two songs that there were didn't inspirate me to hunt the full album from somewhere else. So my stars are based only on those two songs.
Black Sabbath
5/5
And now we are back to the albums that define my musical taste. This album never gets old. Absolutely brilliant. Ozzys fresh voice and doomish start for this album make me still go goosebumps.
Jefferson Airplane
3/5
Giant Sand
1/5
There was nothing in this album that I could get a firm grip on. Too monotonous a soundscape for my taste.
Buffalo Springfield
3/5
Now we’re back on the folkish side again. This time, it wasn’t just a blurry mass—there were hooks to latch onto and a greater variety in the vocal tones as well.
Mike Ladd
1/5
There was one goodish song in this album, it was the on with El-P. Otherwise I didn't like.
Herbie Hancock
3/5
This kind of fusion always lingers on the edge. I’m not sure I have the stamina to listen all the way through—but this time, I did. And I kind of liked it.
Neil Young
2/5
David Bowie
3/5
I’ve never been a huge fan of David Bowie. He’s alright, but nothing more. Over and out.
Paul Weller
1/5
Not my thing. After listening to this album, I couldn’t remember a single thing about it. To me, it was a completely unremarkable piece of art.
M.I.A.
1/5
And once again we are in the zone that is out of my interest. Listening this album through was not very easy or enjoyable.
The Rolling Stones
3/5
U2
2/5
Tim Buckley
1/5
blah
Air
3/5
Ah, movie music, there’s something special about it. And this one is pretty good! It’s easy and smooth, yet still has some catchy hooks to hold onto. That said, the album feels quite unbalanced, but that’s to be expected from a soundtrack.
Aerosmith
1/5
I don’t think I’ve ever actually made it through this album before—and now I see why. It’s dull, repetitive, and about as exciting as listening to crops grow. Steven Tyler’s voice has never been my cup of tea, and the bull choirs in the background aren’t exactly helping the situation. Sure, there are plenty of songs I recognize, but knowing them doesn’t make them any less of a snooze-fest.
The Notorious B.I.G.
2/5
While I have a deep appreciation for east coast rap from this era, Biggie Smalls has just never quite resonated with me. A lot of his tracks seem to lack the memorable hooks that made other artists’ albums from that time stand out. Plus, the lyrical content leans a bit too heavily into that “bitches come and bitches go” kind of vibe—which, honestly, just doesn’t do it for me. Of course there are few songs with deeper lyrics as well, but not enough.
Radiohead
2/5
Too much whining to me. Towards the end of the album it got a bit better. Still, nothing special.
Prince
3/5
The first 3-4 songs were absolutely brilliant, but then it went flat again—until that final track, International Lover, an excellent piece of art. Still, it lacked the guts or charisma to raise the whole album to a 4-star rating.
The Associates
1/5
This must be a joke. The sounds are so thin that I thought that I was listening this through some tweeters. Also that singing is very "interesting".
R.E.M.
4/5
Nice
Arcade Fire
1/5
Nope
Wilco
2/5
it wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t really good either. Nothing really stood out — no hooks, no moments that grabbed me. It all kind of blended together into the same sound, track after track. Just felt a bit flat overall, like there was nothing to hold on to.
Jeff Beck
3/5
Rod Stewart’s raw, bluesy vocals wrap around Jeff Beck’s fiery guitar work like a perfectly tailored glove. The album is soulful, gritty, and bursting with attitude. I had never listened to this before, and it genuinely took me by surprise — in the good way.
Grateful Dead
1/5
This folk rock Americana stuff is really hard for me to get into. It always has its moments, but this album didn’t have many of those. I don’t really get what’s so special about the Grateful Dead—at least for me, there’s just nothing there.
Run-D.M.C.
2/5
It’s been a while since I last gave Run-D.M.C. a listen — any album. I totally get the significance of Raising Hell in pushing hip-hop into the mainstream, and yeah, the fusion of rock and rap on this one was definitely groundbreaking. As a whole, the album just doesn’t hit for me. Respect where it’s due, but on a personal level, I’d give it a solid 2 stars.
Frank Sinatra
1/5
blah
Big Brother & The Holding Company
5/5
This doesn’t sound like an old album, it hits with a raw, live-wire energy that still feels fresh. The guitars are a highlight, buzzing with bluesy grit and psychedelic flair.
Janis Joplin shines throughout, her voice full of soul, fire, and heartbreak. She brings serious weight to the songs, especially on standouts like “Piece of My Heart.”
I’ll definitely come back to this album.
Bob Marley & The Wailers
2/5
Although it’s time to celebrate — this is the 100th album I’ve listened to from the list — reggae has always been a tough one for me. I’d really like to enjoy it, but for some reason, it tends to fade into the background for me, and I just don’t have the stamina to get through a full album with full focus. That was the case again today with this one. It’s not bad at all, but maybe reggae just isn’t for me…
901 to go.
Suede
1/5
Just whining here… and when it comes to Brit-rock, Suede just doesn’t do it for me. One of the weaker ones, in my book.
Goldie
1/5
Felt like pure background music — and far too long.
Foo Fighters
4/5
Foo Fighters have a special place in my heart, even though this might be the album I’ve listened to the least. Still, there’s something about Grohl’s singing voice and drumming that really hits my tastebuds in a good way. The fact that he did it all by himself doesn’t diminish the significance of the album.
Franz Ferdinand
2/5
Maybe those few songs from this album were played so much on the radio back in the day that it completely killed my desire to listen to Franz Ferdinand at all. So yeah, this one’s not my cup of tea.
Pantera
4/5
90s sounds — gotta love ’em! This album is once again one of those base-camp records for my musical taste. The hit songs might feel a bit worn out, but overall, I just really like this one.
The Stooges
4/5
Wow, this album was recorded in 1970. For some reason, it’s hard for me to understand the fact that it’s that old. Still, it’s packed with punk vibes, and it really hits me. It also shares a lot of similarities with music styles I enjoy—hard and rough sounds, enough screaming :), and the right kind of attitude. It was fun to listen to the whole thing, and I think this might actually be the first time I’ve listened to a full Stooges album all the way through.
Sex Pistols
3/5
This actually sounded surprisingly good—just in terms of the sound. Otherwise, it was pretty decent.
Black Sabbath
5/5
Nicenice
Talking Heads
2/5
It started off really groovy and funky, and I was like, wow, I’m gonna like this album. But after few songs, it just faded into the background. Maybe Brian Eno showed up and froze everything after the other guys tried to keep it groovy. Two stars belong to those first few songs.
Common
2/5
This slipped once again to the boring side. I have never been a huge fan of Common, and this album points out why. His hip hop is too soft and loose for my taste, I need more edge, attitude, and some off-beat vibes.
Super Furry Animals
1/5
Didn't resonate to me in any level.
Spiritualized
2/5
This album had it's moments, but there were too few of them. It went too gospel too many times to my taste.
Patti Smith
1/5
The Who
2/5
Too long album to my taste. Few good songs, but that's it.
Buck Owens
1/5
Taylor Swift
1/5
Jimi Hendrix
4/5
Of all Jimi’s albums, this one is the most familiar to me. I haven’t listened to it in a while, but yes—it still sounds great. I like it.
Fleetwood Mac
2/5
Once again, backgorund music with few ups.
Hugh Masekela
1/5
Too jazzy for me this time. Some other time this would have been three stars, but not now. Didn't even have stamina to listen it through.
Ramblin' Jack Elliott
1/5
This is like a bad version of Johny Cash. No thanks.
Justice
1/5
Creedence Clearwater Revival
2/5
The Strokes
2/5
Boring and dull singing, no hooks. once again.
Simon & Garfunkel
2/5
Easygoing, familiar songs I can mostly sing along to—nothing more. Great for a slightly drunken singalong around the bonfire, but not the kind you’d sit down and listen to from start to finish on an album.
Orbital
1/5
‘90s British electronic music is far from my usual listening habits. Occasionally, you stumble upon a hidden gem in albums like these—but not this time. Once again, it ended up as background music.
The White Stripes
4/5
This was fun. A very versatile album overall. The marimba sections weren’t the strongest, but the rest was thoroughly entertaining.
The The
2/5
Messy stuff.
R.E.M.
2/5
This album was just plain jingling, although fairly decent at that. Stipe’s sound isn’t as irritatingly nasal as it is on the later records. It also got a lot better after a lousy start. Still, it doesn’t really earn many points.
The Who
2/5
Mudhoney
3/5
Start was fresh and fast and then it got slower. Too long album, otherwise ok.
Lucinda Williams
1/5
Why is this in this list, I cannot understand. Didn't even have a stamina to listen this through.
3/5
This album is decent—nothing that gives me goosebumps or evokes any strong reactions one way or the other. Solid, but not remarkable.
Leonard Cohen
2/5
Mr Cohen has a special voice and style, but still full album of that stuff is too much for me.
Stevie Wonder
3/5
Surprisingly fresh and not as overly sweet as I expected. The album manages to strike a good balance between emotion and restraint. I especially enjoyed the string arrangements in some of the tracks. And since it was released in '70s, it thankfully escaped the glossy excesses of the ’80s. That era had no chance to ruin it yet.
New York Dolls
1/5
The New York Dolls have never inspired me, and this time is no different. There’s nothing here I can connect with.
The Velvet Underground
2/5
I get that it was influential, but it’s still a little too artsy for me.
Michael Kiwanuka
3/5
I had no prior knowledge of this artist, but I think this experience really captures the essence of the 1001 Albums campaign — discovering music you’d probably never listen to otherwise. And I have to say, I somehow enjoyed this one. The African influences add a “cherry on top” effect to the album, making it even more special.
Willie Nelson
2/5
Derek & The Dominos
2/5
Title track is good. Guitars sound nice, but still I have no stamina to listen this, it falls to background.
Butthole Surfers
3/5
Venom
4/5
Messy, thin, and absolutely legendary. It’s not the best-sounding record, but its influence is huge. I’ve been waiting for something like this in this challenge, so it probably hit even harder than it should. Still, I liked.
Portishead
3/5
The first few songs didn’t click — the vocals felt out of place with everything else. Eventually it started to flow better, but by the end, it faded too much into the background. 3 stars.
Red Hot Chili Peppers
2/5
Ok, nothing special.
The Smashing Pumpkins
4/5
Elbow
4/5
This was a pleasant surprise, I hadn’t heard this album before. It has layers, and the band truly has a sound of their own.
Rufus Wainwright
3/5
I’m honestly not sure what to say about this. Did I like it? I’m still not sure. My opinion shifted several times during just one song. There were elements that felt folky, others that reminded me of French chanson, or something in that vein, and then parts I can’t quite categorize. It was all very confusing.
The Beach Boys
1/5
The Cure
2/5
I didn’t have the time or energy to truly focus on this one, and the album didn’t have the strength to pull me out of my hectic state of mind. The sound doesn’t appeal to me either, it feels like it’s trying too hard to be something it’s not. So this time, no more stars than that.
Elvis Costello & The Attractions

I really don't know what to say about this. There was a lot of everything. Some of it was good, some of it wasn't.
Metallica

Arms crossed and approving nodding beside the mixing booth. I still have a deep love for this album, even after it’s spun through my players more times than I can count.
Fela Kuti
3/5
Adele
2/5
To my ears, Adele has always had the same problem: most of her songs sound interesting for the first 25 seconds, but after that, I realize I’m not really listening anymore. The same issue comes up with this album as well. Most of the songs go from tight to floppy within that 25 seconds already mentioned.
The Temptations

Faust
2/5
Sly & The Family Stone
3/5
I was expecting a lot more from this album, but it just didn’t deliver. Overall, it felt a bit dull and boring, although a few songs did stand out.
OutKast
4/5
When I turned 18, I got Outkast’s ATLiens as a birthday present, and it ended up being one of the big reasons I got into this kind of hip hop. I didn’t play their later albums as much, but Stankonia definitely got a lot of spins. Their sound was just so different from all the gangsta rap I was into before, it really stood out. The album’s solid overall, and it’s got a few huge hits that were basically on MTV non-stop back then… maybe a little too much. But for example, the song So Fresh, So Clean is still in heavy rotation in my playlists, it’s just timeless.
Charles Mingus
3/5
This isn’t a bad album by any means. But this kind of jazz hits me hardest when it’s live. Right now, I’m listening to it while working, so it’s only three stars for me.
2Pac
2/5
Although I’m really into Hip Hop, 2Pac has never quite been my cup of tea. To me, he shares some of the same issues as Notorious B.I.G., a bit too monotonous, with beats that tend to sound the same. Tupac definitely has his own unique style of delivering verses, but that’s about it for me. So overall, the album feels a bit dull. Whenever there’s a featured artist on a track, things usually get much better.
PJ Harvey

Sonic Youth

Last week, I accidentally ended up listening to some Duran Duran, and I thought it was actually pretty decent. But to be honest, this album doesn’t really rock.
Run-D.M.C.
1/5
I honestly have no idea how I had the stamina to listen to this album more than once back in the day. I mean, that was like 30 years ago, so maybe I was just more into it then. Listening to it now was kind of a struggle — I barely made it through once. Hip hop has come a long way since those early days, and honestly, I think it’s changed for the better. But hey, someone had to be the first to do it, and you’ve got to respect that.

Ah, the classics.
It’s been at least ten years since I last listened to this album all the way through. This one played a major role in shaping the metal side of my musical taste, and I have to admit that I still really enjoy it. It sounds especially good now, considering the last 15 albums in this challenge have been more or less total bullshit.

I remember listening to Slint after watching the movie Kids. Back then, the whole album felt a bit too slow for my taste, but now it sounds great. I really enjoyed it — and it wasn’t too long, either.
Buddy Holly & The Crickets

This is so hard to listen.
The Go-Go's

I honestly started to wonder why this album is on the list. The songs are boring, the sound is bad, and nothing about it caught my interest.
Bad Brains
3/5
This sounded refreshing after so many weak albums on the list. A very versatile record. I’m not sure if I’ll return to it in the future, but for now, it was a solid listen.

N.W.A.
3/5
A foundational work in its genre. To my ears, the album’s opening is still absolutely breathtaking, though as a whole it might be a bit on the dull side. Still, it can’t really be called a bad record.
Eminem
2/5
Eminem is an artist I have very mixed feelings about. On one hand, he’s an extremely skilled rapper and has some very insightful songs, but on the other hand, he leans too much into the humorous side. This album — or more precisely, its hit songs — were played so much on MTV and other music TV shows back in the day that they’ve gone stale in my mind.
SAULT
4/5
This was a huge surprise — in the best way possible. I had never heard this before, and when I first saw the album cover, I assumed it would lean heavily toward the harder side of music. Then I noticed Wikipedia listed it as R&B, and I thought, oh no, not this crap again. But when I pressed play, I was blown away by how good it was.
The sound is groovy, energetic, and refreshingly free of whining — none of the clichéd “aahs” and “oohs.” Instead, it’s layered with many things, including some really nice afro rhythms that keep things moving. Even though the album was long, it never felt boring or dragged at any point. Well done, Sault.
And one more thing: it feels great to jump back into the 21st century after spending time with so many albums from the ’60s. A welcome change!
Led Zeppelin

Mr. Cohen’s got that smooth, dark voice we all know, and it pulled me in for the first five songs. After that, though, it just didn’t quite keep me there — the magic kind of wore off. Still, it’s a solid album with a few really nice moments that remind you why he’s such a legend.

2/5
OK... Sometimes too much drugs IS too much drugs.
Public Enemy
2/5
After wading through a truly heroic amount of BS earlier on the list, this was… refreshing. I like hip hop, but Public Enemy has never really worked for me. The genuinely great songs are rare, buried under a very loud, aggressively ’90s sound that just doesn’t do me any favors.
Metallica
5/5
This album still works simply because I love it. Which actually made me wonder why I haven’t listened to it properly, front to back, in years. I did consider knocking off a star out of pure habit—the idea that albums you played to death back in the day should be punished for it. But honestly, that logic falls apart the moment this thing starts playing.
Sam Cooke
2/5
I've never been a huge fan of live albums of any artista and when I listened this, Spotify started to play some non-live Sam Cooke after this album was played, it sounded much better to my ears. I can believe that this has been a pleasant experience in Harlem Square club back in sixties, but from the speakers here at my home, it does not work very well...

Once again, after suffering through a long stretch of pretty underwhelming albums, this one felt like being hit over the head with something loud and alive. I’d never listened to this before, and honestly I didn’t know what I was getting into, but it worked. It’s noisy, chaotic, and kind of unhinged in a way that made the previous listens feel even more lifeless by comparison. Not exactly relaxing, but definitely a welcome shock to the system, and yeah, I liked it.

Thin Lizzy
2/5
I really don’t get the appeal of live albums, and this album didn’t help. The performances are fine, but the whole “this was recorded in front of people” thing mostly just gets in the way. These songs would’ve worked much better without the crowd and the reminder that this could’ve just been a solid studio album instead.
The Afghan Whigs
2/5
It started ok, but then it slipped more to the boring side.

4/5
This album didn’t start particularly well, but it improved significantly as it went on. The latter half was very easy to listen to, and by the time I got to songs like “Free Form Guitar,” “I’m a Man,” and “Liberation,” I was deeply affected.
Jethro Tull

Elliott Smith

2/5
Muse feels like one of those bands you’re supposed to like. For some reason, though, they’ve never gone down easy for me. I don’t care for the singer’s voice, and the big hits have been thoroughly ruined by endless radio play. There are a few fleeting moments of light on this album, but nowhere near enough to earn it more than two stars.

Tres Hombres is ZZ Top before they became the slick MTV dance-rock version of themselves, and honestly that’s the best era. The whole album just grooves, loose, dirty, confident blues rock without trying too hard. ZZ Top had swing and personality. “Waitin’ for the Bus” into “Jesus Just Left Chicago” is ridiculously cool, and even overplayed stuff like “La Grange” still earns its hype. Rio Grande Mud has that same raw Texas feel, while La Futura surprisingly proved decades later they could still tap back into that stripped-down magic.
