1001 Albums Summary

I’m sure I’m in the minority, but I’d not heard this album in its entirety, only the more popular tracks were the ones I’m familiar with. I have never been a huge fan of The Beatles, even though they’re undeniably the greatest rock band of all time. 4 out of 5 for me, but I’ll take The Rolling Stones over The Beatles every time.

Absolutely loved it. One of my favorite bands is The Police. Their first album Outlandos d’Amour is really punchy and raw, and very punk influenced, a far cry from their later albums, and it reminded me a bit of that.

This reminds me a lot of a band called The Jam

I wasn’t expecting the horns to be used as much as they were. Nice touch.

All that did was give me a headache.

Great stuff. A lot of it I had never heard before. I need to listen to more of The White Stripes. I like Jack White’s solo stuff. And it doesn’t hurt that Meg White is hot.

I’ve not listened to a lot of Paul Simon’s work, but from what I’ve heard before I’ve enjoyed. I can see why this one is on the list. Great stuff.

I try really hard to like Radiohead, but I just don’t get it. Maybe I’m in the minority.

Meh. Too pop for my taste.

I heard “Scooby Snacks” before and was familiar with these guys, but hadn’t heard the full album. Pleasantly surprised.

Such an impactful album from the 80’s. My taste in music has changed a lot since then, but this was a fun trip back to my youth.

Many times rock music bores me. This IMO was boring and repetitious.

I deserve a medal after listening to this

I like these guys. Saw them live a couple years ago.

I’m not a huge cure fan, but have always been fond of their stuff. Saw them live as well. Put on a great show.

I thought it was ok. A lot more bluesy than I expected.

I never listened to the Smiths much during their heyday. But the more listen, the more I like it (even though it’s as sullen and morose as you can get)

I know this is considered a classic, and I can understand why. But Pink Floyd just doesn’t do anything for me.

Listening to this brings back memories of being a wee lad.

Gangsta Rap never appealed to me. It was ok IMO

I loves me some Curtis Mayfield.

If you were around in ‘88, you can’t even imagine how big this album was. Groundbreaking.

Brazilian Yacht Rock

Love the early 80s new wave / alternative stuff

I enjoyed it more than I thought I would.

Sounds like the FM classic rock radio station being piped into the high school weight training room. Not a fan.

Love it. “Dreams” is one of my all time favorite songs. Great from start to finish.

Big 5 stars for me. One of my all time favorites, and his follow up album “Voodoo” is even better. Glad this one made it on the list.

I’m not much of a rocker, but I really like the older, David Lee Roth version of VH

Critically acclaimed band, and I understand why. Doesn’t do much for me though.

I thought it was ok

I love the disco era. A lot of great R&B / Soul music from this timeframe that I think is slept on, because of the bad rap disco gets.

I liked it a lot better than the previous Dusty album that was on the list. I’d give it 3.5 if it was an option, but not a full 4.

Was not expecting to enjoy this as much as I did. First couple of tracks threw me off, but the more I listened, the more I liked it.

I like Green Day for the most part, but it just bores me. It all sounds the same to me.

Glad I finally gave Tom Waites a listen. Good stuff.

I dislike country western music for the most part, but I’ll always have a soft spot for this era. Waylon, Willie, Christopherson…I was immersed in this stuff in the late 70’s / early 80’s. It’s like a youth soundtrack, and will always remind me of my big bro and my pops.

It’s ok….just didn’t do much for me.

These guys were ahead of their time.

It’s good. I like their album Violator much better.

This was fun for me. A trip back to the first couple years of college. I remember thinking he was going to be a much bigger deal than he ended up being.

That was a tough one for me. Felt like a slog to get through it.

I needed something different today, and this fit the bill.

Might be an unpopular opinion, but I just don’t get the appeal of Jay Z. Stuck in my old head hip hop ways, I guess.

As much as I try to dislike Kanye’s music…I just can’t. I like “The College Dropout” a lot more than this, though.

This one surprised me. I really enjoyed it. He reminds me of a funkier version of Nick Drake. Looking forward to listening to more of his stuff.

Hard for me to put into words how much I love Prince. Purple Rain is viewed as his best, but I think Sign ‘o The Times was Prince at his finest. One of my favorite albums of all time.

This is one of those albums that seems familiar, like it was played a lot when I was really little. Really liked it.

Probably my least favorite SD album. 4 stars based on the handful of classics on this one.

Sometimes I can get into progressive rock. This is not one of them.

Janis Joplin is a force of nature. And I can definitely see the appeal of this album. But I’m left with a feeling of…meh. I’d give it 2.5, but I’m feeling generous and will go with a full 3 stars. I like the album artwork a lot more than the music itself 🤷‍♂️

He’s a genius and a legend. Undeniable. But I just don’t enjoy his music 🤷‍♂️

Everything I’ve heard from them in the past never did much for me. But I really liked this one.

I liked this so much more than the last Kinks album that was up for review.

I felt like I was listening to the same song on an endless loop. It was ok, but I didn’t feel like there was much variety. Awfully repetitive.

This is the only kind of country / western music that I enjoy

I wanted to like this more, but it just didn’t do much for me. I do like the hard, punchy punk rock sound, though. I’d give it a solid 2.5.

It reminds me a lot of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. I never understood what the big deal was with Rocky Horror, and I feel the same about Bat out of Hell

A great band for sure, but there’s something off putting to me about Robert Plant’s voice.

It was fine. A bit much to be making this list IMO.

Not what I was expecting from a Bowie album. Not a fan of this one, but still giving it 3 because….its David Bowie.

I just never understood all the hullabaloo around this one. She’s amazingly talented, but this album doesn’t do much for me.

If I were to listen to Metal, they would be my go to. I heard someone say they’re The Beatles of Metal music. I think that’s spot on.

“Mother” always annoyed me, but that’s the only blemish on what for me is one of my absolute all time favorites.
