Popular Reviews

The White Room by The KLF

Don’t get this one. Must have had to be there in the late 80s understanding electronic music landscape for this to hit. Didn’t hit me at all.

I Should Coco by Supergrass

I didn’t love the heavier songs and intensity at the start, but the star single I know really well and actually really enjoyed the more mellow back half. Probably won’t come back to this as it didn’t really move me

Quiet Life by Japan

Good bass riffs, very dated but I am sure it was revolutionary at the time

Parallel Lines by Blondie

Way more punk rock than I was expecting. The singles naturally stood out, heart of glass is a great song. Catchy and warm throughout, but very “of the time” sounding. Still enjoyed but probably wouldn’t listen to it again.

Damaged by Black Flag

I get it, I can see why it’s influential, but I just don’t love it. Important for heavy music so I’m thankful for its influence

Live At The Regal by B.B. King
Jan 21 2025

Better listening in headphones than through a car or room speaker. Crowd noise sometimes got in the way of hearing the instruments and a little muddy in general but overall a good album and fun up beat blues that makes you smile

Joan Armatrading by Joan Armatrading
Jan 22 2025

Enjoyed this, didn’t blow me away. Loved the production, the drums and the guitar recording was moorish. Will give it another listen to see if round 2 grabs me. Still liked it on second listen, but I couldn’t remember a single song. Not as memorable as I wanted.

Tracy Chapman by Tracy Chapman
Jan 23 2025

Strong start. First 5 songs all remind me of my childhood. Back half requires more listening but still, very good vibes.

Fear Of Music by Talking Heads
Jan 24 2025

Not very hooky, don’t remember a lot of songs after it was over. Can hear clear influences on modest mouse in a few songs here. Good rhythm and bass lines. Definitely interesting.

Pretzel Logic by Steely Dan
Jan 27 2025

Really enjoyed this. Heard it’s influence on a lot of songs, heaps of vulfpeck/side project stuff. Catchy moments, great songwriting and production. On extra listening, I liked it even more, good stuff.

Parallel Lines by Blondie
Jan 28 2025

Way more punk rock than I was expecting. The singles naturally stood out, heart of glass is a great song. Catchy and warm throughout, but very “of the time” sounding. Still enjoyed but probably wouldn’t listen to it again.

Modern Kosmology by Jane Weaver
Jan 29 2025

Really cool album. Lots of psychedelic sounds, lots of songs very drone-y with cool swirling sounds throughout moved along by beats and bass lines. Lovely vocals, amazing production, very rewarding listening on headphones. Not catchy at all but will definitely reward in repeated listens.

The Nightfly by Donald Fagen
Jan 30 2025

Good vibes. Would make a great backdrop to the start of a party. Beats are nice, production is very clean. The songwriting is complex and not super catchy but I think this album would reward on multiple listens.

Gasoline Alley by Rod Stewart
Jan 31 2025

Good vibe, sounds dated but surprised to hear how rock n roll old rod stewart is. Still enjoyed it but likely won’t listen again.

Chirping Crickets by Buddy Holly & The Crickets
Feb 03 2025

Dated sounding but great song writing and enjoyable. The opening track sets the mood and is a great, catchy starter. Probably would only listen again when I’m on the mood to re live the 50s

Reggatta De Blanc by The Police
Feb 04 2025

Track opening and closing the album are really great. Some of my favourites for a long time. The rest of the album had a great vibe but not as re listenable as the singles.

Green by R.E.M.
Feb 05 2025

I really like a lot of REM I think I just have to spend more time with their albums. The songwriting is good but it’s just a bit dated maybe with the choices of instrumentation and production. Still really enjoyed this album and will likely return to it from time to time

Sound of Silver by LCD Soundsystem
Feb 06 2025

Unreal album. Listened before and loved in the past but sort of forgot about it. Was a pleasure coming back to such a great album. Really riled me up and gave me a lot of energy.

The College Dropout by Kanye West
Feb 07 2025

Bangers and fun, I like his newer stuff better.

Parachutes by Coldplay
Feb 10 2025

Simple, kind of muddy production but a good vibe. Some classic really memorable sad boy songs and I rate it.

The Number Of The Beast by Iron Maiden
Feb 11 2025

Not my cup of tea. Two main singles I knew, just don’t love this kind of music. Still, you can’t deny the influence I hear from this on a lot of other heavier music. The production is dated and the bass is too loud.

Blood And Chocolate by Elvis Costello & The Attractions
Feb 12 2025

Actually enjoyed this. Reminds me of what Wilco is inspired by. Interesting song writing but not super memorable; needs further listening

Meat Is Murder by The Smiths
Feb 13 2025

Great album. Really enjoyable songs and production, thoughtful lyrics. I need to spend more time with this album

Sincere by Mj Cole
Feb 14 2025

Very “of the time” dance music. Good when cleaning and working on stuff. Subwoofer is a must or you miss 50% of the music.

Blunderbuss by Jack White
Feb 17 2025

Loved this album. Started in the car and was unsure at first, but mowed the lawn and really focused in on the second listen and fully bought in. Great album, very good reminiscent songwriting reminding me of magic Beatles moments. Catchy hooks and riffs. All over great album, will come back to this again

25 by Adele
Feb 18 2025
The Visitors by ABBA
Feb 19 2025

I loved the way this album opened. That first track blew me away. The album started to peter out for me by the back end but still a really enjoyable listen. Not what I expected from ABBA. Will definitely come back to this for some re listens.

The Hissing Of Summer Lawns by Joni Mitchell
Feb 20 2025

Beautiful voice, great production for the time but none of the songs grabbed me.

Truth And Soul by Fishbone
Feb 21 2025

I get why this is an album on this list, but I just didn’t find joy in it. So much genre changing and bending, everything was surprising but not always enjoyable. Not for me.

Songs From The Big Chair by Tears For Fears
Feb 24 2025

The singles were great, the rest of the album was good but more ambient and avante harder than I was expecting. I can hear the influence on nine inch nails from this album. Will be good for repeated listening

Feb 25 2025

Great vibes. Listened in stereo. Not a bad song on the album but will give it another go in mono to embrace how it was released originally.

Heartattack And Vine by Tom Waits
Feb 26 2025

Love Tom waits. This was great, groovy and little less intense as the albums unusually listen to.

Bitte Orca by Dirty Projectors
Feb 27 2025

Interesting, but more obnoxious than anything. Most songs felt like a “look at me look how avante garde i am” and I didn’t really connect with any of them. I liked the production though and the complexity but meh

Hot Buttered Soul by Isaac Hayes
Feb 28 2025

Didn’t vibe with this at all. Really long songs, but none of it really caught me. I understand the significance of this album on soul and music for the era it came out but you must have had to been there.

Madman Across The Water by Elton John
Mar 04 2025

Great album, tiny dancer is a classic, the rest of the album is good but very progressive for the time. Lots of long complicated songs. Rewards on re listens

Music by Madonna
Mar 05 2025

Great album, sound is dated to its era but still some really great up beat tracks. Not the biggest Madonna fan but this was a good listen. Would have gone 5 stars if it weren’t for the autotune ballad and snoozy back half

Moondance by Van Morrison
Mar 06 2025

Great single, the rest album was good but didn’t blow me away. Good production and songwriting but I need to relisten more

Teenage Head by Flamin' Groovies
Mar 07 2025

Fun and a good vibe for this era and style but not something that grabbed me. I’ve heard variations on Louie Louie before and didn’t know that this was the original

Remain In Light by Talking Heads
Mar 10 2025

I know the single, liked the album but didn’t love it. All very percussion and rhythm based with repeating riffs as the idea expanded for each song. I still want to persevere with talking heads so I will return for relistens

If You Can Believe Your Eyes & Ears by The Mamas & The Papas
Mar 11 2025

Good classic songs of the era. California dreaming is a great song. Album overall was good, I’ll come back to it when I’m in the mood for this typical 60s era music.

Getz/Gilberto by Stan Getz
Mar 12 2025

Good vibe, old school feel great background music for a chill get together

Only By The Night by Kings of Leon
Mar 13 2025

Probably rate it higher if i hadn’t heard so many of the tracks on repeat when it came out and at work. It’s a good catchy album, but doesn’t reward in repeated listening. Very sparse minimalist production that sounds good but kind of muddy. Still great songs that are very memorable

Quiet Life by Japan
Mar 14 2025

Good bass riffs, very dated but I am sure it was revolutionary at the time

Fulfillingness' First Finale by Stevie Wonder
Mar 17 2025

Great vibe love the production, songs not as catchy as others but good jazz and complex pop songwriting

Led Zeppelin II by Led Zeppelin
Mar 18 2025

Love the production, the warm tape saturation on the drums and the overall vibe of the album. Hard rocking but not taking it too seriously, lots of psych influence in the big breaks and solos. Good stuff listen more

Clandestino by Manu Chao
Mar 19 2025

Surprised how much I liked this album. Very groovy but understated, upbeat and fun, it felt like the backing track to a holiday through South America. Catchy minimalist dub/reggae stuff I think would make for great background music to a party

The Sounds Of India by Ravi Shankar
Mar 20 2025

Interesting intro to sitar but I won’t listen to this again

Mar 21 2025

Like listening to hold music or waiting room music. Complicated, lots of repeating and chill vibe but nothing to grab me to make me want to listen again.

Figure 8 by Elliott Smith
Mar 24 2025

I thought I’d like this more because a lot of my favourite artists sight Elliot smith as influence. Reminds me of the father John misty storytelling type but the songs aren’t that catchy so they leave my mind as soon as I hear them. I liked the vibe though, maybe needs some relistens

Led Zeppelin by Led Zeppelin
Mar 25 2025

Good moments, clearly groundbreaking for the time but sounds of the time to me. Some of the studio trucks moving the panning of tracks around feels gimmicky now but was probably sick back then. A few songs were very good, most of them were just okay. I liked it, but it’s not as amazing as I expected it to be

Mar 26 2025

Preferred speaker box to love below, obviously hey ya is a classic and roses is great and the album in general was very good but I expected love below to have more poppy tunes and to be more accessible. Still good but long run time to get through it all

Songs The Lord Taught Us by The Cramps
Mar 27 2025

Not my cup of tea. I’m sure it’s important for music growth but goth rockabilly was not on my bingo card today

Fred Neil by Fred Neil
Mar 28 2025

Good old school folk/western. Nothing amazing that makes me remember clearly how the hooks went, but still a good listen. Probably too long to repeat the whole album

Back At The Chicken Shack by Jimmy Smith
Mar 31 2025

Good jazz album, instrumentals are great but I won’t re listen as an album to put on but I’d play it behind a cocktail party

Hot Rats by Frank Zappa
Apr 01 2025

Soloist wank instrumentals, noisey and avant garde for the sake of pretentiousness. No from me

Damaged by Black Flag
Apr 02 2025

I get it, I can see why it’s influential, but I just don’t love it. Important for heavy music so I’m thankful for its influence

Electric Ladyland by Jimi Hendrix
Apr 03 2025

Really like the singles we all know. Voodoo child is like the best pump up song, voodoo chile is such a great jam. The tones and solos are clearly so influential on so much rock music. The middle of the album lost me a bit but overall I enjoyed the more traditional songs over some of the wierder jam songs

Apr 04 2025

This album was great. Gotta be in the mood for it, but it took me on a full album journey and had so many parts that clearly influenced so many others later. Will come back to this one.

Tapestry by Carole King
Apr 07 2025

One of the best of all time. Great songs, great production. Can’t fault it.

The Köln Concert by Keith Jarrett
Apr 08 2025

Not my cup of tea. Fiddly piano good for background music to fill space but not something I would go out of my way to listen to. I’m sure it’s iconic in the right circles

Shake Your Money Maker by The Black Crowes
Apr 09 2025

Rock n rolll but not my cup of tea. I know the main single well, pub classic but otherwise won’t re listen

The Stranger by Billy Joel
Apr 10 2025

Great 70s pop and ballads. Reminds me of Elton John a lot. I’ve heard the singles but never delved further, enjoyed this, looking forward to more Billy Joel

Apr 11 2025

Don’t love the vocals but they grew on me. I can hear the influence of this over a lot of artists I’ve listened to. That soft punk rock indie sound where the guitars do the singing and the vocals carry the message. Will listen again

The Next Day by David Bowie
Apr 14 2025

I like Bowie but not this album as much as earlier ones. The sound he had here was perfected in black star which I think is better.

Live And Dangerous by Thin Lizzy
Apr 15 2025

Rock and roll fun, very good sounding live album. Probably won’t return to this but still didn’t hate it either

Steve McQueen by Prefab Sprout
Apr 16 2025

Sounds just like the 80s, but really enjoyable songwriting and production. The acoustic version is also really great with wonderful songwriting. Very unique but also familiar. Will listen again

Five Leaves Left by Nick Drake
Apr 17 2025

Great melancholy folk album. Loved the vibe, production and songwriting. This will be a great album to re listen to

New Forms by Roni Size
Apr 18 2025

I get it, important to drum and bass history and iconic for the time. But it’s just really long and everything sounds the same. Minimalist production and really long songs get boring quickly. The bass sound though with the sort of cello sample sound mixed with synth is sick, and a couple of hooky songs stood out.

Apr 21 2025

Musicianship is excellent and production is excellent. I get why this is on the list because the vibe is very niche and very good in this niche but I will likely never listen again because virtuoso instrumentals for the sake of it gets boring fast. My wife likes it- from the one song she heard.

She's So Unusual by Cyndi Lauper
Apr 23 2025

Strong first half, the singles are classics for a reason. Good 80’s vibes and production. I just didn’t like the back half of the album- it got a bit weird

Femi Kuti by Femi Kuti
Apr 24 2025

Repetitive and very long songs

Beauty And The Beat by The Go-Go's
Apr 25 2025

Very 80s the non singles didn’t stand up to the quality of the hits

Franz Ferdinand by Franz Ferdinand
Apr 28 2025

Good vibes, I like this era of music but this album got a bit samey towards the end.

Back To Black by Amy Winehouse
Apr 29 2025

Great album, love the songs and production. It’s very compressed and loud compared to more natural sounding recordings. The only thing keeping it from 5 stars

Forever Changes by Love
Apr 30 2025

Actually loved this album. Never heard of these guys before and was really impressed. Great sound, great songs, will likely give this many more listens

That's The Way Of The World by Earth, Wind & Fire
May 01 2025

Classic good, solid well written funk. The singles I knew, not the rest. Was enjoyable but not particularly memorable. I’d throw it on as background music for a party funk vibe but wouldn’t sit down for an intense listen. Still love the beats, the bass and the horns all over it.

May 05 2025

Really liked this. The singles are huge but I enjoyed the rest of the album so much I listened twice. Very indicative of rock music at the time at the birth of grunge. Still great song writing and sounds modern to today’s standards but a vintage feel to recording and production

Paul's Boutique by Beastie Boys
May 06 2025

I didn’t hate it, didn’t love it. Lots of samples and sounds that are iconic that I’ve heard later that’s been inspired by this. I imagine this was groundbreaking when it came out, but I can’t learn to love the vocals

KE*A*H** (Psalm 69) by Ministry
May 07 2025

I was worried this would be a punish to get through at first. Once I got into it, I can see all the influence on NIN and other industrial bands that I like. Actually enjoyed a lot of the unique production, but not all the songs. Still overall more good than average

The Gershwin Songbook by Ella Fitzgerald
May 08 2025

Lovely sounding album, but very long. After the second disc it all starts to sound the same. Will revisit this for background music and a get together, or for some study/work music. Overall lovely, just so so long.

Gorillaz by Gorillaz
May 09 2025

Been a fan of gorillaz a long time. Have not given this album a listen in over 15 years. Great album, better than I remember. I like the later gorillaz with more song based songs and less instrumental but still the albums production is still great today and inspiring.

Unknown Pleasures by Joy Division
May 12 2025

Super well known and beloved, but it just doesn’t resonate with me. Didn’t hate it, didn’t love it, not big on the vocals but it’s unique and enjoyable in its own way. Middle of the road rating

Diamond Life by Sade
May 13 2025

Great opener, songs are good and production great but every song ends up blending in to each other. For mid 80s it’s got a really classic and timeless sound to it.

Kings Of The Wild Frontier by Adam & The Ants
May 14 2025

Never been into new wave, but this album was a good listen. The more I hear the more I like in this genre; but this album also was just a cool vibe. I like the nine inch nails covered one song I was familiar with

Suicide by Suicide
May 15 2025

Amazing that this came out in the 70s I don’t personally love it, but I can see why it’s so well regarded because it sounds like the future form the viewpoint of the 70s. I think I’ll give it some more listens because the pedigree of bands inspired by this demand I listen again.

Immigrés by Youssou N'Dour
May 16 2025

It’s nice I get it, I’m just not moved by it won’t listen again

Mothership Connection by Parliament
May 19 2025

Great funk, very wierd, clearly influential. Great for more listens

Ill Communication by Beastie Boys
May 20 2025

I liked the music, but I’m just not into the beastie boys rapping and vocals. Interesting to hear them evolve into a more traditional band than a sampled hip hop artist

World Clique by Deee-Lite
May 21 2025

Great, fun dance vibes with unique synths, samples and singing. Surprisingly consistent with great songs all the way through keeping me interested through the lot. Just nothing else quite as catch as groove js in the heart.

The Healer by John Lee Hooker
May 22 2025

Good vibes for a blues album, the opener threw me off with Santana but the rest of the album fell into familiar blues territory. Not so amazing that I’d come back to it often, but good enough for a listen again

The Modern Lovers by The Modern Lovers
May 23 2025

Gets a bit samey through it, but I can see the appeal. There’s albums like car seat headrest stuff that is clearly inspired by it. Good songwriting but not my cup of tea vocals

The Queen Is Dead by The Smiths
May 26 2025

I didn’t get meat is murder when I first heard it, it was good but very 80s and didn’t strike me that strongly. The Queen is dead hit me much harder. Initially I had the same offput feeling but it grew on me as I listened. On second listen, I finally get what it’s about and why it sounds this way. I think I’ve become a genuine smiths fan..

May 27 2025

Good; solid album didn’t love the back half but the front half is clearly massive for a reason

Elvis Is Back by Elvis Presley
May 28 2025

How good is the production on this album. Genuinely blew me away how great the recording sounds compared to early Beatles when this predates it. Unreal, with great songs, this will come back to me again

Felt Mountain by Goldfrapp
May 29 2025

Human is a standout, album is good but wierd. Very interesting and lovely sound but too wierd for pop succees

Roxy Music by Roxy Music
May 30 2025

The drum sound on this album is unreal, the production is fantastic, but the songs are all forgettable. I might need to revisit this album later to see if my feelings change.

Aladdin Sane by David Bowie
Jun 02 2025

Not my favourite Bowie Album. Jean genie is a classic, the rest of the albums rock and roll athletics are great but don’t stick with me like other Bowie albums.

Transformer by Lou Reed
Jun 03 2025

It takes me a while to warm up to Lou reeds purposely bad singing. Walk on the wild side is great, the front half of the album is better than the back half but the song writing is there to justify it on the list. I can see how it’s influenced a lot but it’s not really for me

Odessa by Bee Gees
Jun 04 2025

Long, cinematic but not really memorable. Great production though

Rust Never Sleeps by Neil Young & Crazy Horse
Jun 05 2025

Loved this. Great songs, great vibe with a huge array of sounds across the album. Super nostalgic feeling with strong production, and I’ll definitely come back to this.

With The Beatles by Beatles
Jun 06 2025

I love the beatles, but this is probably one of the weaker albums for me. Some classics on here and the start of greatness that comes later. Still worthy of lots of stars and love

Aja by Steely Dan
Jun 09 2025

Didn’t love this album. I’ve tried it before because it’s acclaimed but I just don’t get it. It’s not poppy enough to get in to easily, too complicated to enjoy the listen. Maybe I need to give it more time

Frank by Amy Winehouse
Jun 10 2025

Just great, what a debut album. Amy sounds wise beyond her years, the production is timeless and the songs catchy and memorable. Such an easy listen, loved this

Space Ritual by Hawkwind
Jun 11 2025

I wouldn’t listen again. Revolutionary in terms of pushing the envelope of art but not for me

The White Room by The KLF
Jun 12 2025

Don’t get this one. Must have had to be there in the late 80s understanding electronic music landscape for this to hit. Didn’t hit me at all.

The Beach Boys Today! by The Beach Boys
Jun 13 2025

Enjoyed this album on first listen, definitely need to do more beach boys. Great production and harmonies.

Elephant by The White Stripes
Jun 16 2025

Seven Nation Army is a classic No Doubt but the rest this album didn’t impress me at all

Bossanova by Pixies
Jun 17 2025

Didn’t rate this, pre cursor tonsome great grunge and 90s rock but not something that grabbed me

Vulnicura by Björk
Jun 18 2025

Pretty strings, forgettable songs, best listen to in headphones but won’t listen again.

Jun 19 2025

The single is a classic, it’s a good vibe for this era and style, well produced and great sounding just not grabbing me enough to be more than 3 stars

Jun 20 2025

At first I didn’t want to listen, gangsta rap is not my thing. I didn’t find the lyrics particularly moving or as amazing as 2pac is made out to be, but the production felt like going back to my high school years playing GTA

On The Beach by Neil Young
Jun 23 2025

Great album, love Neil young not my favourite of his but still excellent

Tres Hombres by ZZ Top
Jun 24 2025

La grange is amazing. This albums production is very tight, love the drum sound and the tones in the album just don’t love all the songs. Enjoyable listen, will come back for la grange

The Blueprint by JAY Z
Jun 25 2025

I love Kanye’s early production. No wonder he went on to make great music. This album was surprisingly good, I may come back to it when I’m in the mood

The Clash by The Clash
Jun 26 2025

I see why this is important but the style is not for me. I think I’ll enjoy layer clash albums more

One World by John Martyn
Jun 27 2025

This was great, wierd and wonderful. Will need to come back to this, but amazing that this was created in the 70s

Jun 30 2025

Not my favourite. I want to get into Dylan more but this is not the Dylan I was expecting. Maybe I need more time with it?

Melodrama by Lorde
Jul 01 2025

Surprisingly good, especially the back half. I am familiar with other Jack antonoff records and enjoyed this as much as Lana del rays NFR

Isn't Anything by My Bloody Valentine
Jul 02 2025

Loveless is much better but this still sets the stage for shoegaze. Decent album, really unique and interesting production for the time but I won’t rush back to listen again

Pink Flag by Wire
Jul 03 2025

Not my cup of tea. Not bad just not anything I’d go back to

I Against I by Bad Brains
Jul 04 2025

Expected to like this less. Had a feeling it was going to be all screamy and punk and it surprised me that it wasn’t a punish to get through. My wife hated it. Probably won’t listen again.

Ten by Pearl Jam
Jul 07 2025

The front half of the album is full of classics and great songs. I got a bit over the soupy production by the second half and the songs weren’t as impactful. In the right environment I would listen again, particularly the classics like even flow.

Stardust by Willie Nelson
Jul 08 2025

A really good vibe, very laid back and pretty. A nice Americana jazz ish album with old songs reimagined. Will return to this for sure and loooking forward to more Willie Nelson in the list

Scott 4 by Scott Walker
Jul 09 2025

Reminds me of Marty Robbin’s era western but no where near as good. Not a fan of the soupy production.

Exile On Main Street by The Rolling Stones
Jul 10 2025

I keep listening to the stones hoping that it will grab me, but this album didn’t again. It’s not bad, it’s just not moving me the way the Beatles did.

Woodface by Crowded House
Jul 11 2025

This album was great, full of classics I was surprised all came from the same album. Amazingly progressive and produced for something of the era and still holds up today.

At Mister Kelly's by Sarah Vaughan
Jul 14 2025

Good vibes as background music, a little long in the tooth by the end. Crowd interaction was cool, but I wouldn’t put this on as a must listen, good background jazz party music

Heroes by David Bowie
Jul 15 2025

Heroes the song is amazing, the album was good but the instrumentals on the back half were a bit wierd and boring. I’ll try it again later, but I still love the production of Bowie.

The Stone Roses by The Stone Roses
Jul 16 2025

I thought these guys were something else entirely. Enjoyed a lot of this, will require further listening

The Madcap Laughs by Syd Barrett
Jul 17 2025

Don’t know how to feel about this. The weirdness and stripped back sound reminds me of horn of plenty by grizzly bear, clearly must have inspired it. Probably won’t listen again

Let England Shake by PJ Harvey
Jul 18 2025

I liked the vibe and the stripped back sound, but couldn’t get on with the singing. Still, there was some cool progressive sounds and moments here. I reckon I could enjoy more with more listens

Axis: Bold As Love by Jimi Hendrix
Jul 21 2025

Enjoyed this much more than electric lady land. It felt more cohesive, the production is awesome. The drums are fat and warm and the guitar tones are amazing. This demands more listening

Out Of The Blue by Electric Light Orchestra
Jul 22 2025

This was just great all the way through. Mr blue sky is a certified classic but this album was filled with nothing but joy. Loved it.

Water From An Ancient Well by Abdullah Ibrahim
Jul 23 2025

Fine for background jazz. Piano in track 2 moved me a bit but generally not my box of frogs.

Vol. 4 by Black Sabbath
Jul 24 2025

Sabbath hits have always been great for me to listen to, never sat with a whole album though. It’s good, not great. I’ll come back to this though and give it another chance.

Greetings From L.A. by Tim Buckley
Jul 25 2025

This one was really weird. The production was great, I love that early 70s sound but the vocals and howling were just weird. I won’t come back to this one.

Disraeli Gears by Cream
Jul 28 2025

Great vibe, great guitar sound, really enjoyable. Sunshine of your love is incredible but the album stands up and is enjoyable alongside it. Will listen again

Jul 29 2025

This album took me by surprise and blew me away. There was some brass wind jazz noodling that I could take or leave, but outside of that there was so many inspirational sounds. I will come back this for sure

Harvest by Neil Young
Jul 30 2025

This is one of the greatest albums ever made. Can’t fault it and is for me an all timer

Fly Or Die by N.E.R.D
Jul 31 2025

Didn’t hate it, didn’t love it. It’s cool and was the start of the singers eventual command of the pop industry but.. meh. Won’t listen again most likely

Celebrity Skin by Hole
Aug 01 2025

Never actually listened to hole. Everyone says Kurt cobain wrote a lot on it, the opening track was like a nirvana love letter. Didn’t feel the album struck me like nirvana does, not bad, not great

Rage Against The Machine by Rage Against The Machine
Aug 04 2025

One of the goats. The production is seriously so clean and raw and great sounding. The songwriting and band are so immersive and the album is a classic

Brothers In Arms by Dire Straits
Aug 05 2025

This album is great to start. Seriously good. It’s aged a little with the production but is still so damn good. The back half drops away into some strange territory but I still really loved this album.

Le Tigre by Le Tigre
Aug 06 2025

Interesting, intense and mostly enjoyable. I’ve gotta be in the right mood for this kind of thing, but I still enjoyed it

Ingenue by k.d. lang
Aug 07 2025

Didn’t love it, can see the appeal though. Won’t come back to this one but the closing track is a classic

Inspiration Information by Shuggie Otis
Aug 08 2025

Good vibes, but mostly forgettable. Impressive that he records this all himself. Will unlikely return to this as it’s not groundbreaking, but good for background mood building

Tidal by Fiona Apple
Aug 11 2025

Surprised at how good this was. Singer songwriter in piano vibes but with a clearly dark ish, grunge feel to it. Makes it sound of the time, but refreshing compared to the bubblegum pop that comes after this

Pearl by Janis Joplin
Aug 12 2025

Harsh voice, super rock and roll for early 70s. Move over is a classic, I like to album but not so much I’d race back to it.

Aug 13 2025

Some of the noise and length of some songs get monotonous but overall I really liked this album. I think it will reward on re listens because it’s so jam packed with ear candy.

Architecture And Morality by Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark
Aug 14 2025

Took me a minute to get my head around this album. It’s been a bit since an 80s album has come through, but by the end I started to enjoy it. I think I need to spend more time with it to really embrace its complexities.

Paris 1919 by John Cale
Aug 15 2025

Loved this. Never heard of John Cale but this album ticks so many boxes of what I like in that folk/rock crossover sound from the 70s Will come back to this again.

Sticky Fingers by The Rolling Stones
Aug 18 2025

A classic for a reason. I’ve never loved the stones like I love the Beatles but this is the first time I’ve sat with this album and it’s no surprise it’s so well regarded. Really great production, great songs, just great.

Ellington at Newport by Duke Ellington
Aug 19 2025

Fun for what it is, great horns. But live recording of jazz that far back doesn’t sound the best and exists merely to create vibe. No singing means no hits so I won’t come back to this

Olympia 64 by Jacques Brel
Aug 20 2025

Different, I liked the playfulness and some of the chord progressions were pretty inspiring. But it’s hard to really connect with it when everything is in French.

Bubble And Scrape by Sebadoh
Aug 25 2025

Weird one. I didn’t hate it, it’s definitely one of those albums that was the progeny of a new genre, namely that indie emo thing that happened in the early 2000s. Lots of sounds on this that clearly inspired that sound, but it was too out there for me to really love. Worth coming back to to listen again.

The Doors by The Doors
Aug 26 2025

Really enjoyed the back half of this. The singles are classics for sure but the psychedelic droning songs towards the end are amazing. Will come back to this for sure

Too Rye Ay by Dexys Midnight Runners
Aug 27 2025

Great album, horns, pop but avant garde. Interesting and weird but nourishing. What’s not to love?

Smile by Brian Wilson
Aug 28 2025

Liked it, but very complex. This will reward on further listens. The vocals are amazing

The Real Thing by Faith No More
Aug 29 2025

This was way better than I expected. I knew epic and always thought it was a great song, but hearing other FNM tracks out of context, I never got it. This album as a cohesive punch was amazing. Awesome sounding production, great songs, just great.

Sep 01 2025

Loved this, what a voice. Such awesome live energy, even though the recording quality is average to today’s standards, still so much mojo. Shame he died so young

Blue Lines by Massive Attack
Sep 02 2025

Not my favourite from massive attack, but happy to hear this in the list. Was a great listen, haven’t done it for this album in years. Fingers crossed for more MA in the list.

You're Living All Over Me by Dinosaur Jr.
Sep 03 2025

Liked this vibe, reminds me of shoegaze but obviously early on. Great guitar tones and sounds just not grabbing me for the songs

So by Peter Gabriel
Sep 04 2025

This was so good I was taken by surprise. Sledgehammer is a total classic and I’ve loved it forever, but man what a great album. Listen again for sure

Cafe Bleu by The Style Council
Sep 05 2025

Wierd jazz instrumentals and then cafe music combined. Not so good that I enjoyed the jazz instrumentals, not so memorable that I could sing the pop songs, so.. meh.

Juju by Siouxsie And The Banshees
Sep 08 2025

More 80s new wave post punk that is forgettable and doesn’t move me.

Funeral by Arcade Fire
Sep 09 2025

Love this album, had it on vinyl for years. Been a while since I listened, still amazing.

I understand the influence this had on future music, music that I love (massive NiN fan, also some of the wierd stuff from Radiohead, many heavy and industrial bands etc) But this album is 2 tracks I would consider songs, and the rest noise that wasn’t particularly inspiring. It mostly just made me go.. what the hell, am I missing something?

Ogden's Nut Gone Flake by Small Faces
Sep 11 2025

Interesting, very Beatles vibes on acid, liked it, didn’t love it. The talking story moments between songs was different.

Birth Of The Cool by Miles Davis
Sep 12 2025

Always nice to have miles Davis on, but it’s hard to remember songs without lyrics. These are great background cocktail party or study albums, but would I go back to it to really get in to it? Probably not. Still lovely sounding and great for the era.

Hybrid Theory by Linkin Park
Sep 15 2025

This is one of my coming of age albums that was a favourite during adolescence so there is a certain amount of nostalgia that clouds my rating against other things I’ve never heard on this list. But seriously, I don’t know anyone that can listen to this and not immediately have a smile on their face. Great album, genre defining.

Sep 16 2025

I know the significance, and there’s some classics here but it’s not my cup of tea in general.

Dummy by Portishead
Sep 17 2025

Great album, have it on vinyl. Very cold and dark and super clear that it’s portishead. There’s really not much else like it. It’s great, but not all timer great.

Sep 18 2025

This was tough at first, very jarring and screaming guitars were hard to adjust to. After getting through the album, it’s obvious the influence they had on bands in the heavy realm I like, with plenty of riffs and vibes being repurposed elsewhere, ie system of a down and green day. Didn’t love it but I appreciate it.

Violator by Depeche Mode
Sep 19 2025

Personal Jesus is an amazing song, but the rest of the album didn’t stand up, and it sounds dated instead of classic or modern like other albums. Respect its inclusion but nothing else stood out to me

OK Computer by Radiohead
Sep 22 2025

My favourite band, has been for a decade. Still a wonderful album to listen to, this was a joy.

Kind Of Blue by Miles Davis
Sep 23 2025

Great and beautiful for an instrumental jazz album. Not always my bag, but this hit the spot today. Not sure id listen to it just for a relisten, but 100% the perfect background music for a get together.

Music From The Penguin Cafe by Penguin Cafe Orchestra
Sep 24 2025

This was fine, but weird and I don’t really get it. Brian Eno is great, maybe this had to be done to propel him to greatness?

1977 by Ash
Sep 25 2025

I was expecting something else entirely. This was a bit to “rip your face off” rock than I was expecting. I didn’t mind the songs and the vibe, but the guitar tone was really sharp and grating I found it hard to enjoy and the vocals were mediocre. I’m sure this was peak in this genre mid 90s but I won’t listen again.

Queen II by Queen
Sep 26 2025

It my favourite Queen album, but a necessary step to get to a night at the opera. A little too progressive to be compared to my favourite Queen albums, they hadn’t quite honed that super catchy pop element yet.

The Suburbs by Arcade Fire
Sep 29 2025

Loved this but not as much as their debut. Starts strong, i need to spend more time on the back end

Guero by Beck
Sep 30 2025

Got over it by the back half but fun and upbeat album. I’ve always like the more chill beck albums but this one was a lot of fun.

Oct 01 2025

I see how this is critically acclaimed but I don’t get it. Not my favourite style and it didn’t grab me in a way that moved me. Wouldn’t listen again, but also didn’t hate any of it, it just reminded me of that era of music.

It's A Shame About Ray by The Lemonheads
Oct 02 2025

like the vibe, didn’t really blow me away but Mrs Robinson is a classic. Doubt I’ll return to it; but didn’t hate it.

Darklands by The Jesus And Mary Chain
Oct 03 2025

I expected not to like this. I’ve been a fan of the dandy Warhols a long time and can see some very clear influence from TAMC on them. Liked the laid back, psych pop vibes on the more chill songs on the album. Overall I probably won’t come back to it, but I enjoyed it while I listened.

Channel Orange by Frank Ocean
Oct 06 2025

Really enjoyed this, I knew the singles but the album as a whole is really great and worthy of all the admiration it gets. Will listen again for sure.

I Should Coco by Supergrass
Oct 07 2025

I didn’t love the heavier songs and intensity at the start, but the star single I know really well and actually really enjoyed the more mellow back half. Probably won’t come back to this as it didn’t really move me

The Bends by Radiohead
Oct 08 2025

My favourite band, this is such an underrate album in their discography. It doesn’t have the super genre bending elements of future albums that are so revered, but damn if this isn’t some of the best rock of the 90s. Love it

Blood Sugar Sex Magik by Red Hot Chili Peppers
Oct 09 2025

Great singles, good vibes but I didn’t feel like this was amazingly memorable all the way through. Definitely rate it for suck my kiss, absolute tune.

Justified by Justin Timberlake
Oct 10 2025

Great album from my youth, surprisingly fun to listen to the hits again. JT can be seen as just a pop star part of the machine, but I really rate the first half of this album. The back half fell away, so not perfect but still worthy of the list.

This Is Fats Domino by Fats Domino
Oct 13 2025

Good for this era, can visualise the dance floors of the 50s getting down to this album. Guess it was on here because it did this style so well and was influential. I’d probably only listen again though for a throwback to this era.

From Elvis In Memphis by Elvis Presley
Oct 14 2025

This album was excellent. I loved it. Could be the way I’m feeling today, but it was just great and I’ll come back to it.

The front half was packed full of songs I hear in pubs and restaurants and public places all the time. There’s no denying the widespread appeal of the singles from this album, but the back half didn’t grab me and I think in retrospect, these songs ushered in an era of soulless rock pop that tarnishes this album for me. It’s good not great

The Holy Bible by Manic Street Preachers
Oct 16 2025

This was a wild ride. Never heard of this band, but I’ve heard their influence on a huge amount of things. At some point many moments I swear I’ve heard certain melodies, tones, riffs and sounds that they must have influenced a great deal. I don’t know if I’ll listen again, it’s very intense and jarring at times but it was good.

Brothers by The Black Keys
Oct 17 2025

Loved this, simple but really warm and enjoyable production. Great vibe for songs and just overall fun and interesting. The back end of the album kind of fell away for me but still, need more time with this

Thriller by Michael Jackson
Oct 20 2025

Tight, not a bad song on it. Classic for a reason.

Lady Soul by Aretha Franklin
Oct 21 2025

Great, Aretha classics. Such a great voice and awesome sounding production for the era. I’m not the biggest soul person but I still loved this.

Halcyon Digest by Deerhunter
Oct 22 2025

Enjoyed it, I think I need to listen a few more times for it to become as great as its acclaim suggests. I like a lot of bands that are this style, so with more listens this could be a 5 star album.

California by American Music Club
Oct 24 2025

Actually loved this. I tried YouTube because you can’t stream it and bad liquor was the first song for some reason. At first I thought it was some sort of Lou reed adjacent thing, wasn’t grabbing me, but then Jenny came on and I was hooked. I went back and found it’s actually more of a Springsteen meets smiths Americana thing and I loved it. In context bad liquor isn’t all that bad, just a weird way to start. I think there’s a bandcamp high quality download of this, I’m gonna get it and give this another go. It was good.

Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness by The Smashing Pumpkins
Oct 27 2025

Been a big pumpkins fan for a long time. This album is just a huge and great overall snapshot of them at their best. There is so much music but you never feel bored. Love it

A Girl Called Dusty by Dusty Springfield
Oct 28 2025

This was okay, good pop vibes of the era and a few good songs. But it wasn’t “blow me away” good.

Antichrist Superstar by Marilyn Manson
Oct 29 2025

I listened to this a bit because it was cool in early high school but it didn’t connect with me then outside of the beautiful people being a great song. In later years I became a huge NIN fan and going back to this now I’m older, despite some of the very harsh sounds and production, I really enjoyed the rawness and the catchy pop sensibilities baked into what is a pretty hard to love style of music. Good stuff, will come back to this on occasion.

Chelsea Girl by Nico
Oct 30 2025

Very chill, quiet and pretty and also weird. I actually really like the electric guitar quietly driving the folk sound. It’s very timeless. The strings are very of the era and clearly inspired by what was happening at that time (beatles stuff) but still pretty and enjoyable.

Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots by The Flaming Lips
Oct 31 2025

Actually loved this. Was surprised out how great the production and instrumentation was. I’ve known of the flaming lips but never really listened beyond singles. Great vibe and album, I will spend more time with this and other albums from them.

London Calling by The Clash
Nov 04 2025

Excellent for its era, excellent even now. What a cracking album.

Dance Mania by Tito Puente
Nov 05 2025

Good for this style, not something I’d seek out unless I was having a party

A Seat at the Table by Solange
Nov 06 2025

Great album. Don’t love all the singing and instrumentals, they have a certain jazzy vibe that’s a bit too discordant for my liking. But the thematic nature and flow of the album is excellent. I think it would reward on relistens

Triangle by The Beau Brummels
Nov 07 2025

Western ish beatles ish. Was pleasant and good to listen to, but I felt it was mostly forgettable and nothing stuck with me. Didn’t love it, didn’t hate it

Fragile by Yes
Nov 10 2025

Blew me away at first. How something so progressive that sounds so good came out so early in the 70s. Kind of trails off at the end with instrumental fiddly guitar bits, but overall was a good album.

Nov 11 2025

Took me a second to embrace it, but after a few songs and “getting it” I actually quite enjoyed this. It’s pretty incredible how such a wierd band is so well regarded in terms of songwriting etc. I’d have to be in the mood to listen again, but when I am, it’s great.

Swordfishtrombones by Tom Waits
Nov 12 2025

Love it, still the goat. This is such a great album

Fire Of Love by The Gun Club
Nov 13 2025

Not my box of frogs. The songs and production were good, but I didn’t really get the vocals, kind of purposefully bad in a post punk way or new wave or whatever but I just didn’t find it enjoyable.

Endtroducing..... by DJ Shadow
Nov 14 2025

Chill, and good vibe for working on stuff. Not sure if I’d come back to it, but I’d like to read in to the production more. Definitely a slow burner but it didn’t blow me away

Raw Power by The Stooges
Nov 17 2025

Great opener, classic and a great vibe. Really dig it at first, the energy carries the album. I got a bit bored by the back end but I can see how important and influential this was. Will listen again.

The Man Machine by Kraftwerk
Nov 18 2025

This album is heaps of fun for the sound and era. It’s got a whimsical optimistic sound to it, like an awkward teenager dancing. I rate it, good vibe.

Night Life by Ray Price
Nov 19 2025

Middle of the road ballad country in the golden era of Willie Nelson. Enjoyed it, but nothing outrageously memorable that would have me race back. Night life is a great song.

Metal Box by Public Image Ltd.
Nov 20 2025

Don’t get it. I understand why it’s important but I’ll never give this a go again. Not sure why it’s considered so amazing, but I can appreciate what it did for future music.

Punishing Kiss by Ute Lemper
Nov 21 2025

Sounded like the music to a bad musical. Didn’t love it.

L.A. Woman by The Doors
Nov 24 2025

Love riders on the storm; such a great song. I also enjoyed half this album, when it’s in the pocket and grooving along with long songs. Some of the more straight up and down rock songs didn’t grab me. I think I’ll enjoy this more on subsequent listens

Different Class by Pulp
Nov 26 2025

Common people is great, some close to early Radiohead vibes that I liked, overall didn’t love but didn’t hate this. I think I’ll come back and listen again

Everything Must Go by Manic Street Preachers
Nov 27 2025

Great production, huge songs, loved the sound and energy. Just didn’t get the songs to stay with me longer. Not that it isn’t catchy it’s just not that memorable.

More Specials by The Specials
Nov 28 2025

Interesting and wacky. Opening track is great, the album overall though is too strange for me. Not into ska and the musak second half is interesting but not memorable or particularly enjoyable. Appreciate that it inspired some great bands like portishead and massive attack. Before it’s time I suppose

Green Onions by Booker T. & The MG's
Dec 01 2025

It’s tough to love an instrumental album. I appreciate that this has had lots of samples but meh

The Velvet Underground by The Velvet Underground
Dec 02 2025

Loved this. Guitar tone and songwriting was great. Interesting and weird but moreish. Good stuff

Clube Da Esquina by Milton Nascimento
Dec 03 2025

Loved this. Like the Brazilian Beatles, some great short and sharp, ambient and pretty songwriting. Production was cool and the whole thing had a great vibe. Will come back again

Live! by Fela Kuti
Dec 04 2025

I was scared of this at first, my last fela kuti album was a punish of 9 minute songs that followed the same formula. This was better, but I’m not rushing back. The drum solo last track is a cool addition and the sound is amazing for a live recording.

Rip It Up by Orange Juice
Dec 05 2025

Complicated and layered. I liked the vibe and the songs, but none of them stayed with me and none really moved me.

Rubber Soul by Beatles
Dec 08 2025

The start of my favourite era of the Beatles. Love this album, wall to wall, no skips, bangers.

Station To Station by David Bowie
Dec 09 2025

Not my favourite but not bad. Songs had a really driving feel all the way through and the production was excellent but not enough catchiness for me to come back

Dear Science by TV On The Radio
Dec 10 2025

The strings on this album are great. The songs are hit and miss with me, I don’t love the vocals unless they’re in that fun punk kind of way. The back half of the album was better, maybe that’s because I got used to the sound and it grew on me? I’ll have to try again with this one.

Debut by Björk
Dec 11 2025

I was a little worried this would be weird and esoteric, but was surprisingly enjoyable. Bork’s weird singing over some pretty standard 90s rave dance music was enjoyable in the moment. I’m not sure I’d rush back, but if it was on I also wouldn’t mind.

The Band by The Band
Dec 12 2025

Great vibe, love the production from this era. Cripple creek is great, and overall I really enjoyed this album but I think it needs more listens to really settle in to it. I hope theirs more the band albums coming.

Led Zeppelin III by Led Zeppelin
Dec 15 2025

Immigrant song is amazing and such a great way to start an album. I liked the long 6/8 blues jam and the acoustic stuff on the backend but overall considering how well regarded they are, I didn’t connect with this album.

Sea Change by Beck
Dec 16 2025

Great album, haven’t listened to it in years. Slow burner but so pretty and well produced, it gets better with every listen.

Dec 17 2025

Great album I listened to a lot when I was younger, kind of boring and simple on re listens but that’s the magic of its appeal that shot Coldplay to superstardom. Amazing how many memorable songs and singles came out of this album. It’s not as good as their peers of the era, but you can’t deny it’s appeal

Peter Gabriel 3 by Peter Gabriel
Dec 18 2025

If it weren’t for this, I don’t think nine inch nails would exist. As well as many of that industrial and heavy music that this clearly influenced. But this felt like a beta version of what could have been and when compared to Peter Gabriel’s other albums, doesn’t rate so high because it was just too weird to love the whole thing.

Protection by Massive Attack
Dec 19 2025

Love massive attack, never listened to this album but it was really great. The start of something that went on to be amazing.

Here's Little Richard by Little Richard
Dec 22 2025

Liked it, though it’s dated squarely to its time. Some of the songs were too similar that it all blurred together, great vibe for an “era party” though.

Rio by Duran Duran
Dec 23 2025

Don’t love this era of production, all mid scooped and shimmery. Rio and hungry like the wolf are classic for a reason, the rest of the album didn’t grab me at all though.

Strange Cargo III by William Orbit
Dec 24 2025

Great vibe, compelling and forgettable all at once. Didn’t love it, didn’t hate it.

Dec 25 2025

What a punish. The most basic and simple beats with amateur sounding rapping. I was amazed this was on the list, but after getting through the album there was 2 songs that were decent and I didn’t hate. I can see that these style of songs influenced a rapping style and minimalist style of production but it’s not for me.

Dec 26 2025

Very cool to have this at Christmas, it’s very of the era in terms of production quality, but I liked that it as a take on Christmas that wasn’t just religious and clearly influenced so much media following it.

Young Americans by David Bowie
Dec 29 2025

Enjoyed this more than some other Bowie albums. Production is tight, songs are great and interestingly quite long. Fame is such a great song.

Highway 61 Revisited by Bob Dylan
Dec 30 2025

Interesting album, ranked really high for Dylan but I haven’t spent enough time with it. I’m more interested in the earlier folk stuff and can see why this was divisive in its day. Will definitely listen again.

Fromohio by fIREHOSE
Dec 31 2025

So many new wave post punk albums in this list that feel like they cover similar ground. This one didn’t resonate with me at all.

Nixon by Lambchop
Jan 01 2026

This was very confusing. At first I didn’t get the voice, the orchestration was so grandiose it felt forced with all the strings and I didn’t know where it fit in the year 2000. As a Radiohead fan, I stuck it out and the back half really drew me in. I think this will grow on me, and I will surely give this more listens.

Jan 02 2026

Did not expect a country album. Was good, a little one dimensional by the end but was a great vibe.

Head Hunters by Herbie Hancock
Jan 05 2026

Man, the bass line in chameleon immediately drew me in. What a vibe. The long form instrumental nature of this and the absolute mojo across these songs brought a smile to my face and makes me yearn for more. Sounds way more modern than it actually is, further listens are warranted.

The Fat Of The Land by The Prodigy
Jan 06 2026

Great vibe, an album with 3 massive tracks from my highchool life. Lots of fun, memorable and awesome production

Jan 07 2026

Cool album, a great vibe and surprisingly complex for something so popular. I think it’s a bit too complex and wanky to be in to it for multiple listens but I’m looking forward to hearing more Jamiroquai.

Live / Dead by Grateful Dead
Jan 08 2026

A bit too long winded and noodly for my liking. A cool vibe and would have been amazing live as an experience but not gripping enough for me to love it

Car Wheels On A Gravel Road by Lucinda Williams
Jan 09 2026

This was hard at first, I laughed at the terrible 90s vibe of the spelling of 2 kool 2 b 4 gotten. But by the end I really liked it. Turns out Lucinda Williams is the godmother of modern Americana which I’m a fan of so I’ll give this another go to see where it takes me. I hope there’s more from her on the list.

Jan 12 2026

Loved this. High water mark for that 70s production mojo, amazing songs and a super fun enjoyable listen. Can’t believe how good this is for a debut album.

Heaven Or Las Vegas by Cocteau Twins
Jan 13 2026

This vibe is clearly influential on the 80s tinged pop music of now. Even though i didn’t connect specifically with any of the songs, it’s worth being on the list.

Nick Of Time by Bonnie Raitt
Jan 14 2026

Wierd mix of genres here. Wasn’t expecting the reggae beats peppered through here, but clearly the police must have had some influence. Mixed bag for me, liked the Americana/country stuff and the piano ballads, lyrics in some songs were really strong. But the blues and reggae stuff was meh.

Dust by Screaming Trees
Jan 15 2026

This was amazing. Like early QOTSA meets Beatles meets grunge. Lots of varied sounds and textures but also just great sounding moorish songs that made me sad the album finished when it did.

Jan 16 2026

This was an experience. I get why it’s on the list but far out it’s a tough listen. 1 hour of noise music with a cool vibe repeated for 5 minutes and random samples thrown at you gets old quick. I have huge respect and love for Brian eno and David Byrne but I won’t list to this again.

Innervisions by Stevie Wonder
Jan 19 2026

My first Stevie wonder album, surprised how jazzy it was to start with. But really love the production, the vibe overall and the singles which are obviously the big hitters in the album. Hoping to get more out of his discography in the list.

Jan 20 2026

I couldn’t wait to get this one over with. If I can go the rest of my life without hearing “yeah booooy” again I’d be happy. It would have been better if it wasn’t so obnoxious. I get it’s important, wierdly my kids liked it because I guess it’s stripped back and in your face and kind of funny, even if the lyrics are so serious. Must have had to be there; it’s not for me

The Who Sell Out by The Who
Jan 21 2026

Like the Beatles and the beach boys with teeth. More rock n rolling, more silly and fun, but not every track grabbed me. I can see for miles is amazing for 1967.

Kid A by Radiohead
Jan 22 2026

Hard to not be biased as they are my favourite band, but this was a huge moment for me as a musician to be exposed to this album. Will always be one of my favourites

Faith by George Michael
Jan 23 2026

I expected to not love this. I don’t love the way George’s vocals sit in this album, almost a little too buried, but the sound and production on this album as you’re listening you can’t help but smile. It’s so warm and moorish. Not every song was a banger but I really enjoyed it overall.

Get Behind Me Satan by The White Stripes
Jan 26 2026

Gets a little wierd in places, not my favourite white stripes record.

Definitely Maybe by Oasis
Jan 27 2026

First time I’ve ever listened to an oasis album. Obviously familiar with their mega hits, but this was not what I got from this album. I can hear where greatness comes later, but honestly this album was pretty meh. The vocal melodies were boring and followed the chords a lot and the songs were forgettable. It was a good vibe and I like the production, layered guitars and the “live” feel about it. I’ll bet it was awesome in pubs in the UK at the time. Hoping the next album is more impressive.

Supa Dupa Fly by Missy Elliott
Jan 28 2026

Surprised how much I liked this. It’s really all timbalands production which is undeniably enjoyable and unique to him. Later albums produced by him I loved so this naturally touched on all that nostalgia. The songs themselves were fine, not mind blowing but the production carried it

Bayou Country by Creedence Clearwater Revival
Jan 29 2026

Such great driving music. Proud Mary is a classic but loved the vibe across this whole album. Hoping for more CCR

Rhythm Nation 1814 by Janet Jackson
Jan 30 2026

I just can’t get past the production and the annoying electronic snare. It’s still very MJ era sounds but just not as good as the MJ songs. Not my cup of tea

Marquee Moon by Television
Feb 02 2026

Was not expecting this to be so proggy. Love the production of this era, and the vibe of this was great it just didn’t capture me with a song that I rememeber. Solid 3

Rumours by Fleetwood Mac
Feb 03 2026

It’s amazing how many generational hits there are on this. Been a while since I’ve listened and this holds up for songwriting, production and is a serious blueprint for how to make a greatest of all time album. Can’t get enough it

Achtung Baby by U2
Feb 04 2026

Didn’t love this as much as critics do. Never been huge on U2 Recognised a lot of the songs and can appreciate the impact it made for their career and legacy. But, meh

The Contino Sessions by Death In Vegas
Feb 05 2026

Actually enjoyed this a lot, though if it had vocals and was less instrumental and a little more song driven it could have been an all timer for me. I can see the influence it’s taken and had on similar bands especially in that industrial space, but overall it was just a really warm, gritty and enjoyable sound. Good background for study or work

Unhalfbricking by Fairport Convention
Feb 06 2026

This was amazing. Great touch on British folk mixed with some avant garde rock music. Nice touch hear a folk song in 5. Didn’t love the vocals at first but they grew on me, I hope there is more Fairport Convention

Synchronicity by The Police
Feb 09 2026

Love Stewart Copeland a drumming, it’s so refreshing. This album was carried by every breath you take and not much else stuck with me. Great band in terms of talent but a bit wierd for me to like it more

Pretenders by Pretenders
Feb 10 2026

In my head this was something else. Suprised that it was this and the female vocalist. Loved the early odd time signature song, but mostly forgettable except the single which is a classic

Shadowland by k.d. lang
Feb 12 2026

Liked it at the start, a nice western feel and sweet sounding songs. Got a little long in the tooth by the end

Gentlemen by The Afghan Whigs
Feb 13 2026

Really liked the guitar and atmospheric nature of a lot of the songs, particularly the first and last tracks. Conceptually cool but I just didn’t like the dudes voice, it was more often out of tune than in, which marred the whole thing for me

The ArchAndroid by Janelle Monáe
Feb 16 2026

Not my cup of tea, interesting that all the songs were all together and it’s cinematic vibe was unique I just didn’t really enjoy it

Cheap Thrills by Big Brother & The Holding Company
Feb 17 2026

Of the era production but it’s got some screeching guitars that are way heavier than I expected. Shame the production sounds like a live show and not as clean as it could be. Still Janis vocals on some songs are wild. Good but not great, important for sure

Homework by Daft Punk
Feb 18 2026

Loved most of it, it felt very long by the end but you can’t deny the birth of a giant. I think I like later daft stuff more but a worthy debut.

Under Construction by Missy Elliott
Feb 19 2026

I always enjoyed work it. This album was a good consistent vibe, I think I liked the debut better but if I’m on the mood for this era this is enjoyable. I wouldn’t rush back to it though

Feb 20 2026

Not really my cup of tea. Majority of the album I didn’t connect with but some of the ambient songs touched a space I can enjoy. Never been one for this high brow hip hop, but the sampling is definitely futuristic and influential on a style of hip hop that is critically acclaimed. I struggled to get through this though and won’t come back to it

Amnesiac by Radiohead
Feb 23 2026

One of my favourites, jagged back end with some experimental stuff but still my favourite band that rewards on re listens

Physical Graffiti by Led Zeppelin
Feb 24 2026

Overly long with some songs dragging on and not terribly interesting. The vibe of the album is consistent I just didn’t get hooked in. The singles the come out are always great but I don’t get the hype around the overall output of led zeppelin. It was fine, not amazing

...Baby One More Time by Britney Spears
Feb 25 2026

Classic title track, the rest is meh. There’s certain songwriting things repeated throughout, like key changes and triumphant bridges in almost every song, but the slow burn songs suck and the album overall sounds dated now. Still worthy of this list, because she is so famous because of this album but I won’t be back.

Our Aim Is To Satisfy by Red Snapper
Feb 26 2026

Pretty cool, loved the incision of double bass in some songs. Cool vibe, really enjoyable while listening but because there’s no real hooks it’s hard to come back to. Cool anyway to have something a bit different

Junkyard by The Birthday Party
Feb 27 2026

Like a hardcore punk version of Tom waits. Interesting but not something I’ll come back to

After The Gold Rush by Neil Young
Mar 02 2026

Really love this early Neil young stuff. Deceptively simple songwriting but so moorish. Not as iconic as harvest but I still loved it. Will come back to this.

Wild Is The Wind by Nina Simone
Mar 03 2026

Loved this in a lot of ways, but I’ve gotta be in the right mood. Definitely of its time but the voice is just so special that it makes it worth coming back to

Kollaps by Einstürzende Neubauten
Mar 04 2026

One of the few albums I couldn’t get through. Cool that it came out so early, that I’m sure it influenced industrial which I quite like, but this is just too much noise and not enough song for me.

Low by David Bowie
Mar 06 2026

Like most Bowie, i like but don’t love it. It’s sometimes challenging but i like this era with the back end of the albums being instrumental. I think i need to spend more time with Bowie, to “get it”

3 Feet High and Rising by De La Soul
Mar 09 2026

Wierd. I know these guys from the salmon song, and was not surprised by the children music sound to it, but then with the wierd sex stuff mod to late album it was a very strange combo. Don’t love it

Machine Head by Deep Purple
Mar 10 2026

Some of the best and heaviest drumming I think I’ve heard from this era. Smoke on the water is a classic but I’ve gotta be in the right mood for this. Was good but didn’t blow me away

The Rise & Fall by Madness
Mar 11 2026

This one makes me feel torn. On one hand I like it cause it’s so wierd and bright and wonderful, but on the other it’s so strange and disconcerting. The singles were big in Australia so there’s some nostalgia too. Crazy band, gotta respect it but a little monotonous by the end

E.V.O.L. by Sonic Youth
Mar 12 2026

Loved the start of this, a little wierd by then end but I’m looking forward to more. Sonic youth was very popular as a Tshirt on bands I loved in the 90s, I’m impressed by the sound and this isn’t even their most acclaimed album.

Cupid & Psyche 85 by Scritti Politti
Mar 16 2026

Temu Michael Jackson. Very of the era, good quality for what it was trying to achieve but I’d just do MJ if I wanted this vibe.

What's Going On by Marvin Gaye
Mar 17 2026

This was great, I want to spend more time with it but definitely potential for a 5 star if I can sit with it longer.

Slippery When Wet by Bon Jovi
Mar 18 2026

The first half of this album is rip snorting fun. The back half falls away into generic and boring filler tracks. Still mostly good and mostly fun

Garbage by Garbage
Mar 19 2026

This was surprisingly good, but also strange. The dissonant lead lines and changes between sections in seemingly different keys took away from what is a really cool sounding album. The guitar tones, the production, all very good and complex. I can hear a lot of my bloody valentine and nine inch nails in some of this, but the production definitely elevates it above what other grunge acts were doing at the time.

Here Are the Sonics by The Sonics
Mar 20 2026

I feel like this would have felt like hardcore music to the mid sixties audiences. I liked the intensity but the screaming and distorted mics just wore me down too much by the end that I was happy it was over.

Raising Hell by Run-D.M.C.
Mar 23 2026

There’s only so much I can do. The singles are great and classic and there’s something to say for the ultra simple beats and sampling that was revolutionary, but by the end of the album it’s a bit one dimensional for me

The Cars by The Cars
Mar 24 2026

Rated this album, it sounded great with some really hooky memorable songs. Just good vibes front to back.

Street Signs by Ozomatli
Mar 25 2026

This one was hard to find, needed a VPN to put me in the US in order to hear a version of it on YouTube of average quality with ads in the middle and between songs. Not ideal. Wierd as though, like Brazilian pop meets middle eastern hip hop. Very unique, definitely a fun big band on stage feel but I probably won’t come back to it because it’s so hard to find.

Skylarking by XTC
Mar 26 2026

I was not liking this at first, I’m not huge on that 80s rock sound and the songwriting was pretty wierd. As the album went on it reminded me more of late era Beatles and beach boys but with 80s production. Complex songs and sounds, but I really enjoyed the back half. I think this album deserved a few more listens through.

Joan Baez by Joan Baez
Mar 27 2026

Simple, pretty and nice. Strange to get that tape/vinyl wow and flutter I would only expect if I was actually listening to the vinyl. Classic folk vibes, if I’m in the mood for a quiet one this was really lovely

The Wildest! by Louis Prima
Mar 30 2026

Fun for what it is but didn’t blow me away as something particularly special, maybe it’s just that era this was huge.

Dookie by Green Day
Mar 31 2026

Fun, classic pop punk tunes that stand the test of time surrounded by a lot of same-y stabs at the same song structure and style. Liked it, don’t love it.

Kilimanjaro by The Teardrop Explodes
Apr 01 2026

Wierd, didn’t hate it it was different but bright and hopped along with a good vibe all the way through. Just got a bit one dimensional by the end. Pretty experimental for 1980

Go Girl Crazy by The Dictators
Apr 02 2026

Gotta be in a mood for this I guess, had it as background music while camping and it was more noise than it was enticing. Punk rock from the uk style on point but it just felt forgettable

Broken English by Marianne Faithfull
Apr 03 2026

Funky, not expecting this at all. I kind of like and disliked it throughout but overall it was enough to memorable. It had that sort of mesmerising almost tribal beats feeling to it, possible will come back to it, let’s see how time treats it

good kid, m.A.A.d city by Kendrick Lamar
Apr 06 2026

Loved this album, great vibe and reminds me of my youth.

All Things Must Pass by George Harrison
Apr 07 2026

Amazing, can’t get enough of this and will be back for this again.

To Pimp A Butterfly by Kendrick Lamar
Apr 08 2026

Considering how critically acclaimed this album is, and having it appear so close to good kid maad city, I’m surprised that after sitting on both, I enjoyed good kid more. Still a good album, still full of great songs, love the poem getting longer throughout as a cut through. Good vibes

Apr 09 2026

This had some hard vibes about it, and I really enjoyed the production but I’m just not into rap enough to rate it higher. The beats are cool but go on too long because the focus is all lyrical, I think it’s length went against it by the end.

Bryter Layter by Nick Drake
Apr 10 2026

Love some alt folk, I enjoyed the earlier album from Nick drake, but this one was also great. Will reward on re listens, but that early 70s production was wonderful.

Imagine by John Lennon
Apr 13 2026

Liked it, but not as consistent or amazing as other Beatles projects post Beatles. I think I need to come back to this again to embrace it more

Urban Hymns by The Verve
Apr 14 2026

I expected this to be worse, considering the only song I know is the opening track. I found a few songs stuck out with some great production and sounds, but overall it was just kind of meh. The back half didn’t stay with me at all.

John Prine by John Prine
Apr 15 2026

Loved this album. Simple but fun and enjoyable, there’s not a lot of country on the list so it’s nice to get some and it be so endearing. Need to return to this one later

Let's Get It On by Marvin Gaye
Apr 16 2026

Like sex in a record. Great songs, great groove, great for that vibe. Will return to this when the feeling is right

Bat Out Of Hell by Meat Loaf
Apr 17 2026

Progressive rock, huge in scale and maximalist production. In my head meatloaf was a guitar band, surprised to find it was very much piano led rock like Elton John, but more progressive. Didn’t love it, I see the appeal but I won’t come back to this album.

Siamese Dream by The Smashing Pumpkins
Apr 20 2026

Hard to be unbiased because I’ve loved this band for a long time. Great album, no filler just heaps of nostalgia and hard rocking fun.

You Want It Darker by Leonard Cohen
Apr 21 2026

This was amazing. Like the most beautiful parts of Tom waits songs, both pretty and harsh at the same time. Really moving lyrics, very easy to like songs with really sparse but warm instrumentation. This will be something I listen to again for a long time

Rings Around The World by Super Furry Animals
Apr 22 2026

I was pleasantly surprised for this album. These guys were doing this very avant garde take on alt rock at the same time as Radiohead, though I suppose a few years behind when Radiohead did it. I can hear ok computer influence all over this album. I feel like the weirdness of some sounds got in the way of the songwriting but I appreciate the effort. A little too wierd to get that pop appeal

Seventh Tree by Goldfrapp
Apr 23 2026

Loved the opening track, immediately drew me in. Some of the more synth pop stuff wasn’t quite to the level of the folk opener but I really liked this and will reward on re listens

Apr 24 2026

Classic metal album, I did try this when I was in high school but wasn’t ready for the full thing, but I loved walk. I actually enjoyed the songwriting and intensity of this, the drums are great but the guitar tone pisses me off. Still I rate it for what it is

Maggot Brain by Funkadelic
Apr 27 2026

Interesting album, great opener and good vibe all the way through, though I don’t really understand that satirical elements of fart noises and spoken word stuff I’ll have to read more about it

Hot Fuss by The Killers
Apr 28 2026

Great album from my youth, interesting how different it gets on the back end. Cool stuff from a band that went on to keep making hits

Da Capo by Love
Apr 29 2026

Noisey, word, not my vibe. Not sure why it made it here compared to other Love Albume?

Stand! by Sly & The Family Stone
Apr 30 2026

Actually loved this, so fun, so funky and I can’t believe this is 1969. What a vibe, when I’m in the mood for funk and soul big band vibes I’m here for it.

Traffic by Traffic
May 01 2026

This was way funkier than I expected. Great late 60s early 70s songwriting and production, really forward thinking style that is definitely well written and thought out. It’s just that it didn’t feel like there was any hits or memorable song that has stayed with me

The Velvet Underground & Nico by The Velvet Underground
May 04 2026

Noisey and out of tune in parts but moorish and enjoyable. Makes amateur sound fun and accessible while also being wildly different for the time. I rate it

First Band On The Moon by The Cardigans
May 05 2026

Love fool is a classic from my childhood, hadn’t heard the rest. Didn’t love or hate any of the other songs, but the production was interesting with muffled guitars and a sort of Lo fi aesthetic for an album with a massive top 40 hit.

evermore by Taylor Swift
May 06 2026

Not sure why this was so critically acclaimed when it came out. It touches on the stylistic influence of bon iver/Sufjan etc but never quite reaches their emotional peaks and comes off as a generic top 40 attempt at something more authentic. Norman fucking Rockwell was much better for this style that ended up more unique and interesting

Talking Book by Stevie Wonder
May 07 2026

Loved this, superstition is certified classic but the whole album grooves along, was an enjoyable listen but I want more time with it

The Slider by T. Rex
May 08 2026

Like the Beatles at their rockiest, a lot of great guitar tones and good vibes throughout. While I did love the guitar tones, riffs and was pleasantly surprised by how many songs I knew, I didn’t love the singing and the songs overall didn’t stay with me.

May 11 2026

The singles from this album were huge, top 10 songs of my high school era. You couldn’t escape them. I really liked these songs back then but never did the whole album. I always got the feeling these guys lucked into fame because of some of the bad singing and questionable tones and mixing on this album, but it’s clear everything was purposeful. While the singles are impressive, the album as a whole didn’t stay as consistent as those singles.

Morrison Hotel by The Doors
May 12 2026

As is usual with doors albums, hard not to like. I think I felt I was vibing this the whole way through, it ended sooner than I thought but nothing really stayed with me except the opening track. Still would put it on again because it’s such a good vibe all the way through. This era of production is my favourite

American Beauty by Grateful Dead
May 13 2026

First dead album I didn’t love, this on the other hand was really good. Great production, awesome songs. Big influence on one of my favourite bands Wilco, so nice to hear where it’s come from. I need to listen to this again.

1984 by Van Halen
May 14 2026

Classic hits, amazing guitar work, iconic drums. This album is a classic for a reason and no wonder it’s on this list. I enjoyed it for what it is, it’s not really my style or preference and I will be unlikely to listen again, but I didn’t hate my time with it

White Light / White Heat by The Velvet Underground
May 15 2026

Wierd. Don’t get the motivation but the execution was good if noise was the goal. The story was the best part, the rest was just fine. Not my favourite velvet underground album, will need to read more about why it’s so highly regarded

Cosmo's Factory by Creedence Clearwater Revival
May 18 2026

Bangers wall to wall. There’s probably nothing wrong with this album except I wish it was longer.

Paranoid by Black Sabbath
May 19 2026

This is such a fun and enjoyable album, short and sharp, catchy and influential. At the time I bet it sounded so aggressive and heavy and now it’s far softer and poppier than where heavy music went, but you can’t deny the excellence of this album.

Low-Life by New Order
May 20 2026

The singing on this is just terrible, I can’t get down with it. The music is great, for that new wave sound it’s probably right up there with some of the best, but how did a band with a singer that can’t sing make it this big? It can’t be a purposeful style to sing this badly.

Safe As Milk by Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band
May 22 2026

Neither here nor there on this one. Music was interesting and I think within the context of the time, very forward thinking and experimental. But I also felt that the experiments didn’t always yield easily likeable music so this is rated more for its influence on future bands and music than for it being distinctly great itself.

At Newport 1960 by Muddy Waters
May 25 2026

Considering when this was recorded, that it was live and that it had never been done before, this was seriously impressive. It is more or less pretty standard blues but sounded great, was fun to listen to and I would go back if there was a blues theme to music I had to play.

Tusk by Fleetwood Mac
May 26 2026

I didn’t like this at first, the first few songs that way Lindsay’s voice was recorded/mixed and some of the sharper edged sounds. But as the album went on it continued to grow on me and by the end I loved the back half of the album. Not as consistent as rumours, but still very good and I think this will reward me on re listens.

Arrival by ABBA
May 27 2026

The singles were classic, so big it overpowers the rest of the album because I can’t hear them in context as they’ve been a part of my entire life. The album was okay as a whole, but those singles took them to a place of noteworthy few other acts ever reached.

Black Monk Time by The Monks
May 28 2026

This was weird. Not bad, but not memorable. Here for its place in history more than its place in great music. Probably won’t do it again.

Doggystyle by Snoop Dogg
May 29 2026

This was a punish to get through. I get it was important at the time but I’m just not into all that N word gangsta rap stuff. The music was catchy enough and definitely iconic, reminds me of playing GTA Sam Andreas

3 + 3 by The Isley Brothers
Jun 01 2026

This was great, I wasn’t sure if it was the originals or covers of some songs but this is the kind of soul funk that put a smile on my face from start to finish.

Jun 02 2026

Liked this, but it’s more like a nostalgic feeling than it is a groundbreaking album experience. I’m a huge NIN fan so it’s great seeing hurt get the recognition it deserved through this cover, and there’s a bunch of other great renditions here. I think the whole album is pretty moorish and fits a certain vibe I’d be happy to come back to.

Rid Of Me by PJ Harvey
Jun 03 2026

I didn’t particularly love this, but the opening track has stayed with me for a while. I think I have heard this albums influence on a lot of other albums, so I’m thankful it’s a thing but I’m not sure how fast I’d rush back to it.

Stripped by Christina Aguilera
Jun 04 2026

This was a punish to get through. The production sounds like every pop song from this era, maybe this was influential or derivative, who knows, but I do know that I did not like any of it enough to ever want to listen again. On a positive, you can’t deny Christina’s singing ability is unmatched by many of that era.

At Folsom Prison by Johnny Cash
Jun 05 2026

This was great, you can actually hear how much fun JC and the band were having. I love how so many songs are funny, poking around kind of jams that the point is not to move the needle on song craft but to be pure entertainers and this album was that, entertainment.

Illinois by Sufjan Stevens
Jun 08 2026

I have loved this album for a long time. I was very happy to see this come up on the list. I could listen to this album on repeat, and every time I listen to it I hear more detail and beauty and it gets better.

Deja Vu by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young
Jun 09 2026

I need to listen to this again to enjoy more. I love Neil young generally but I wasn’t gripped by half this album, and really enjoyed the other half, I guess depending on who wrote/sang the songs. Loved the production though. Those 70s drums and tight production is the best. This album has so much notoriety it’s definitely worth another listen.

Beautiful Freak by Eels
Jun 10 2026

Like an emo Lo fi beck, but kind of shittier. I get this connected with people and had a very particular aesthetic but it hasn’t aged well and kind of seems like an amateur go at sampling. The songs themself aren’t bad though but the production places it at a certain era. Not bad not good.

Highway to Hell by AC/DC
Jun 11 2026

There’s only so much AC/DC I can do in a row because the songs start to blend together at a certain point. But how can you deny the simplicity and the straight forward pop character of a hard rock album like this. The production is obscenely good, I was surprised at how great this album sounds. Hard not to like

Jun 12 2026

This is not the first time I’ve listened to this album. Amazing and warm for something so sparse. Really enjoy it in the right moments. Very inspiring

Jun 15 2026

I haven’t listened to this since I was in high school. Considering the commercial success of this album, it’s actually quite wierd using sounds and textures not common in pop at the time. Guitar hero era overshadows my feelings of the singles from this album, but I do really rate it.

Bitches Brew by Miles Davis
Jun 16 2026

Super well renowned but just fiddly soloing for long songs, it didn’t grab me emotionally or resonate with me much. After a few days later, I can’t remember a single song. Impressive for what it is, but not for me

Jun 17 2026

I really struggle with the rap albums from this era. There’s nothing wrong with them but the production is so simple and minimalist with samples and very little variation, all the focus is on the lyrical craft which doesn’t really grab me as a white Australian male.

Songs Of Leonard Cohen by Leonard Cohen
Jun 18 2026

I liked this, though it did get a bit samey by the end. It’s a chill, soft and story driven folk album worth listening to but probably not worth coming back to

LP1 by FKA twigs
Jun 19 2026

I remember this being critically lauded when it came out, at the time I listened but didn’t really “get it” After listening again, it is a very stark production style that I believe was very influential on pop music, and the vocal is so pretty. I think if I’m on the right mood to chill out I’d come back here again

Elvis Presley by Elvis Presley
Jun 22 2026

I rate this album, the production is clear for the era and the songs are all great party starters and who can deny Elvis’ voice and sex appeal.

Jun 23 2026

This was a formative album for me. I listen to it some what regularly and I just love it. I think the thing I like so much about it is the drum hooks, there’s so much creative stuff happening it just sucks me in. Can’t get enough of this album.

Ghosteen by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
Jun 25 2026

I remember listening to this when it first came out. Has a very spooky and somber moody excellent production and emotion but didn’t resonate with me as much as I expected.

Arise by Sepultura
Jun 26 2026

This was a punish to get through. I’m sure it was important for the style at the time, but to hear the same beat and thrash riff over and over, there was not enough memorable elements and melody in this to make me want to come back.

Nebraska by Bruce Springsteen
Jun 29 2026

This album is so good, and the more I listen the more I like it. Springsteens voice is so unique and the minimalist production and the whole story about this is great. Goes to show you can make an amazing album with just a mic and a crappy tape deck. Will come back here again

In A Silent Way by Miles Davis
Jun 30 2026

All these MD albums and I still haven’t found one that really blew me away. Track 1 is repetitive and boring though I did enjoy the softness in track 2. But in reality, meh? I couldn’t play this at a themed party cause the songs go on too long the guests would get antsy

Exodus by Bob Marley & The Wailers
Jul 01 2026

This album is excellent, had classics that stood the test of time and everything I love about reggae and dub bands owe a lot to Bob Marley. Love this, will listen again anytime

Another Green World by Brian Eno
Jul 02 2026

Interesting album, can see the mid point between Roxy music and ambient music. I don’t love the vocals, or some of the songs built like traditional rock pop songs, but some of the instrumentals were great and very modern sounding, with lead guitars particularly I’ve heard used all over 90s to 10s rock and hip hop. Testament to the vision

Freedom is great, vibe is okay all the way through but no other songs grabbed me like freedom. GM voice is fantastic though, he really was a talented singer songwriter

Metallica by Metallica
Jul 13 2026

I love lars simple drumming against these awesome songs. By the back end I’m starting to lose interest, because every song is similar, but you can’t deny the front end of this album is full of classics. It’s the kind of album that puts a smile on your face.

Sign 'O' The Times by Prince
Jul 14 2026

I don’t get these acclaim. The drums on every song is so loud and everything else sounds so buried, there’s some great guitar parts and synths all through this that are just so hard to connect with. And then the songs themself just feel like loops repeating forever with only little licks as variation. I like a lot of prince singles, but I don’t get why this album is so highly acclaimed. Maybe it’s just me?

Devil Without A Cause by Kid Rock
Jul 15 2026

This was not as much of a punish as I expected. The production is good, it gives you exactly what you expect, which is to say that nu metal meets redneck rap with country thrown in is interesting enough to warrant this album on the list. But I just didn’t like enough to ever listen again.

Happy Trails by Quicksilver Messenger Service
Jul 16 2026

Didn’t hate it, didn’t love it. Too much noodling that didn’t feel like it went anywhere. Production sounded good but beyond that I wouldn’t return to this album

Ray Of Light by Madonna
Jul 17 2026

This was such a great album. I’ve listened to it before many years ago but it was such a fun album. The combination of ambience, dance and guitars in this era actually sounds so far ahead of its time. Banger

2112 by Rush
Jul 20 2026

The production on this is amazing, I love 70s production. It sounds so modern and clean and warm and beautiful. The drums are amazing. I didn’t really “get it” in terms of the songwriting, the songs are so long it’s hard to walk away being left with a hook that stayed with me, but I definitely enjoyed every part of it.

Van Halen by Van Halen
Jul 21 2026

Heaps of fun, the production on this album sounded amazing. The drums and guitar just kill. I don’t love the singers voice but the songwriting was catchy and iconic for this era. Solid

Youth And Young Manhood by Kings of Leon
Jul 22 2026

Didn’t expect this to be so rock n roll, velvet underground vibes. Fun and up beat, songs were kind of boring and forgettable but the energy was huge. I can see why they got to their mainstream success with this as their debut.

Dare! by The Human League
Jul 23 2026

Pretty run of the mill one dimensional 80s synth pop, though I suppose it was an iconic sound and everything in the 80s sounded like this album. Not sure if this was first and influential, or just did a good job nailing this sound and style. Didn’t hate it, walked away not really remembering any of it.

Trio by Dolly Parton
Jul 24 2026

Loved this album. Was a breath of fresh air amongst some more intense albums of late. Trip of country singing Americana songs, with 3 part harmonies all the way through. What’s not to love, definitely come back for more on this one.

Seventeen Seconds by The Cure
Jul 27 2026

This one was a weird one. The cure is so well renowned I expected more, but this came across pretty one dimensional with the same guitar tone, similar riffs and chord progressions and a lot of instrumental boring stuff. Not sure I get the concept?

...And Justice For All by Metallica
Jul 28 2026

One is amazing, the opening songs are so great for this era. Love Lars drumming, but I hate the production, it’s so thin and harsh sounding. Giving it a mediocre cause it’s important but not amazingly listenable

Leftism by Leftfield
Jul 29 2026

This was such an influential sounding album even though I didn’t really love all of it and it got very samey by the end. I can hear its influence on so many 90s electronic artists

School's Out by Alice Cooper
Jul 30 2026

This was so much more operatic than I thought. Never heard it before but I knew the singles. I expected it to be so much more guitar focused, but it was piano rock like Elton meets meatloaf. Don’t know who came first. I didn’t get a chance to really listen closely which I think isn’t fair, so I’ll give it a 3 but come back again another time

Bongo Rock by Incredible Bongo Band
Jul 31 2026

Hard to find, managed a YouTube stream not the best quality. It was fine, interesting that this was a thing but.. meh? I don’t get it

Lost In The Dream by The War On Drugs
Aug 03 2026

Loved this album when it came out, loved it more on this listen as it’s been years since I listened to it. Great guitar tones exploding songs into life. Good Americana vibes under the intense guitars. 4 stars because it gets a bit boring by the end and the energy doesn’t last the length of the album for me

Coat Of Many Colors by Dolly Parton
Aug 04 2026

Loved this, classic Americana done by the best. Need to come back to this, it’s no frills but it’s so warm and enjoyable to chuck on

Chore of Enchantment by Giant Sand
Aug 05 2026

These guys must have had some Wilco crossover in this era. I like it, but the singers voice was just enough to not love it. The music was cool and the arrangements and sounds surprising and enjoyable. Will try again later

Technique by New Order
Aug 06 2026

The balance of early club techno meets 80s indie post rock was fun, production was great for this sound and the vibe across the album was enjoyable. I didn’t usually get down with this sound much, but for what it was, I actually enjoyed this more than I expected

I loved this more than I thought I would. The production is actually amazing, the energy is infectious and the album is moorish. I want to listen to this again and again, what a vibe

Lust For Life by Iggy Pop
Aug 10 2026

Great album. The passenger is such a classic, I just love that song. Album as a whole is very fun, consistent to the end, great raw production evoqueing the punk ethos when it could have had higher fidelity. Good vibe
