Axis: Bold As Love
Jimi Hendrix
Although Electric Ladyland might be everyone's go to album from Jimi Hendrix, fairly enough, I think Axis matches and even surpasses some of its strengths.
The production is a lot cleaner, which perfectly serves some of the weird psychedelic riffs that Hendrix shows throughout the record.
In terms of lyricism and vocals, as shown in songs like the iconic Little Wing or the beautiful Castles made of sand, Hendrix is at it best, and even Noel Redding takes the lead in a fun enough song. Overall a treat for every Hendrix fan and for everyone else for that matter.

Can't Buy A Thrill
Steely Dan
I've always loved Steely Dan, however, I'm not gonna come here and say that I don't understand what's people's problem with them. I guess they're too jazzy for the pop fans, too poppy for the rock fans and too rocky for the jazz fans.
However, both in this record and in "Aja", Steely Dan show a perfect combination of influences from all these genres through a great sense of musicianship and songwriting ability.

Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not
Arctic Monkeys
The Arctic Monkeys sometimes get a bad rep due to a combination of people who assure that they're extremely indie (which they're not) and snobs that dislike them because they're mainstream. It's sad, really, since they have some records that show their ability to write, perform and record songs.
Tracks like Riot Van, When the Sun goes down, and especially A Certain Romance, serve as guarantors of their talent. Just try to let go of your prejudices and give them a real chance.

Vulnicura
Björk
Björk is oftenly described and depicted as one of music's biggest geniuses, especially when it comes to electronic music. Well, I don't know if I should feel dumb for not getting it or great for not falling into this pretentious cult that has been formed around her figure. I do have to say that I'm not really much of an electronic music myself, but I do appreciate my Aphex Twin, my Avalanches or even my Brian Eno every once in a while. But I just CAN'T stand this woman.
I tried with her, I really did. I wanna listen to her music and feel the so oftenly mentioned genius of Björk. But I just can't. Her music feels pretentious at best, extremely annoying most of the time, and anxiety-provoking at its worst.
I feel like she is one of the most overrated artists of all time, at least when it comes to this genre. I'm only almost 200 albums in and I've gotten 3 albums from her, which is so annoying given how many artists I'm missing from a list like this.

Live And Dangerous
Thin Lizzy
This is just one of those "it's not bad, but you had 1001 albums to pick for the list and I do not understand how this made it and ____ didn't" situations.
Thin Lizzy has always been one of those middle of the road rockers out there. They're pretty good as musicians and composers but sometimes lacked originality.
This album is kinda "live", since they did overdub some guitars over the raw live version, which is fair, but it also makes it feel a little deceiving. The songs they picked are almost all what you would expect to listen to as one of their shows.
Overall, an album that will be liked by every fan of the genre, though it isn't anything mind blowing for anyone.

Chris
Christine and the Queens
With the sound of a decaffeinated version of Michael Jackson, Chris is the kind of record you would expect to hear at a clothing store. There's nothing wrong with that in principle, sure, but there's a certain lack of edge and risk to the whole thing that makes it fall into that "music that is for everyone, yet for no one" category.

Cool guitar tones and fun riffs. The shouting vocals, while cool at first, do end up getting a little bit old by the end pf the album. It's short tho, so it doesn't suffer much from it.
Overall, it won't change your life, but it's fun enough.

The Gershwin Songbook
Ella Fitzgerald
It is complicated, and even seems unfair, to try to give this a proper rating as an album, because IT IS NOT an album rather than a compilation. A huge one for that matter. Trying to actively listen to this for more than three hours straight is close to impossible, not because of the music being bad, but because there's not a way for the music not to get old throughout that whole length.
That being said, Ella Fitzgerald is without a doubt one of the best voices of jazz, and George and Ira are definitely incredible songwriters. The combo results in a compilation of great songs, some of which have managed to make me come back to them a couple of times, even if they were being held back but the inevitable blur that this many songs created throughout my listen.
As an album? Way too long. And that sucks. Then again, this is not really an album and it was never conceived to be listened as such.

A lot of albums have that one single that became extremely popular and the rest is a bunch of songs that suck (such is the case of, for example, of Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret.
However, on Diamond Life, and even taking into account how popular "Smooth Operator" is, Sade shows great skills of song-writing that make for a decently rounded album.

Rufus Wainwright
I honestly didn't know about Rufus Wainwright, and I made the mistake (one that I never do), to read some reviews before even listening to the album.
I don't know why, but there's a lot of complaining in these reviews about his voice being "whining" and the album being "boring".
I thought it was beautiful at times, cute and fun at others. Although it's not the best album ever, it did feel unique and worth the listen.

I'm Your Man
Leonard Cohen
Not as good nor as bad as some people in here are saying. Leonard Cohen seems to lean into that particular old-man aesthetic that Waits or Cash also leaned into throughout their respective music careers.
He does not bright with it as well in this particular album, but he manages to pull it off in a decent manner.
Are the lyrics as creepy as some people seem to point out? Nah. Or at least not for a guy born in 1934.

Kind Of Blue
Miles Davis
There's not a lot to say about this record that hasn't been explained a million times by people who are way more clever than I am. Along with John Coltrane's "A love Supreme", this record is known as the main representative of jazz, and for good reason. Even people who don't appreciate Jazz will appreciate this one.

David Bowie
I love David Bowie. I really do. And hell do I love glazing my idols' obscure and experimental work. But hell nah.
I feel like this record gets way more praise than it deserves because of the guy who made it and what happened to him a couple days after releasing it.
The experimentation doesn't sit right with me. The vocals are awkward (even when used to Bowie's unusual singing in other projects), and the songwriting that we see in Bowie's other records is just not there.

Welcome To The Pleasuredome
Frankie Goes To Hollywood
To touch a great variety of genres and sonorities inside of the same record is somewhat risky, since the lack of cohesion might not be of everyone's taste. Some artists, however, have been able to pull it off. Apparently, before KG&LW or even Ween could run, Frankie Goes To Hollywood walked with Welcome To The Pleasuredom.
It's interesting to see how funky, rocky and corny a band can get without it feeling much of a stretch within a sole hour.
Definitely recommended.
