Natty Dread
Bob Marley & The WailersI like a bit of Bob Marley but this is far from his best album. Perfectly ok but not outstanding.
I like a bit of Bob Marley but this is far from his best album. Perfectly ok but not outstanding.
I've never listened to Nick Drake before but I know some people love him. Unfortunately I'm not one of them. I gave up on this dreary rubbish after 4 tracks. 1 Star for his pleasant voice.
Piano is not my thing but this album is quite nice to listen to. The sound production is excellent. I listened on Spotify through the Harmon Kardon system in a BMW 740. It sounded very good.
Not a great album , it really shouldn't be on this list. Sounds like Bowie trying to copy Paul Weller and failing miserably. Two good tracks. I'll let other people decide what they are.
I'm not a big jazz fan but I've been listening to it recently. This is a very well known album. I've never listened to it but I recognised many of the tracks which have made their way into TV shows and adverts over the years. A short album which seemed to be over before I'd really settled into it. A pleasant enough 38 minutes
Another dreary , boring album. Why is it on this list? It has no redeeming features whatsoever. If I could give it zero stars I would.
I enjoyed this album but I have to question whether it is exceptional enough to be on this list. Other bands around the early 90s were doing similar things. 4 stars for being good but not brilliant.
Beach boys 17th studio album was hailed as a return to form after some lackluster releases. It's a departure from their early surfer sound but still has the harmonies although not as layered as before. It's a nice enough album to listen to and the songs carried some important messages back in the day when protest songs were popular. I probably won't listen to it again for no other reason that it's not really my thing.
I'm a metal and heavy rock fan but I just don't get this noise. Plenty of other bands were making a racket like this at that time Nothing ground breaking.
A fun , foot tappin fusion of swing , jazz , blues etc but when it was released in 1956 it was already old fashioned so this is hardly a ground breaking album. Yet again I have to question why an album is on this list. I enjoyed it and tapped my feet but I won't listen to it again.
I'm not a big HipHop fan but this is ok. Not quite ground breaking having been released after De La Souls debut album but it got plenty of good press back in 1990. It passed the time when I was driving but I won't listen to it again
Available on YouTube. Satirical musical theatre. Some amusing lyrics sung in a stereotypical deep German female voice which adds to the comedy. Not the kind of thing I'd choose to listen to.
He undoubtedly wrote some fantastic songs and many acts covered them but Bob just can't sing and his nasal twang is awful. I've never understood his popularity.
I found myself tapping my feet and singing along but after about 5 tracks it began to sound the same. On it's release in 1956 swing had been around for a while so it's hardly ground breaking and was about to be blown away by rock n roll. Pleasant enough but I won't listen again
Beautiful songs played and sung beautifully but after about 4 tracks I was bored. Too slow for my liking
Classic 70s rock album packed with great tunes. This album is right up my street.
Atmospheric electronica topped with Liz Frasers ethereal vocals. Beautiful sounding album although not my usual choice of music.
A delicious slice of psych country rock , if there is such a genre. Classic late 60s Americana. Great album.
Had my feet tapping from the first note. Not usually the kind of music I listen to but I'm going to seek out more Funkadelic.
I didn't like this when it came out and I don't like it now. Soporific electro soft pop.
Neil Young has , without doubt, some great songs but he has many many more duds. The first track on this album , Cinnamon Girl,is a cracker. Down by the River could be great but is 6 min too long. The rest are turgid.
I like a bit of Bob Marley but this is far from his best album. Perfectly ok but not outstanding.
A good but not great album. 3 killer tracks. The rest are meh.... There's better U2 albums
I was in my late teens when the Smiths broke and thought they were a lightweight fun pop group but now they seem to be revered as ground breaking and Morrissey and Marr as icons. Morrisseys solo stuff is far better and Marr is grossly overrated. This is an ok pop album with a couple of good tracks.
I was disappointed by this album. Lackluster country rock. No life in this record whatsoever. There are much better Tom Petty albums out there
Self indulgence at its best. Nothing here for me.
The best Psycadelic Rock album bar none. Three masters of their craft at the top of their game.
I've never been a fan of prog rock but this is actually ok. The musicianship is excellent and there's some moments of musical genius but there is also a lot of rambling self indulgence. Better than I expected but I probably won't listen to it again.
Out and out Pop of the highest level. I found myself dancing along while cooking lunch. Like any artist with a huge catalogue Madonna has had her ups and downs. This is definitely an up.
Repetitive nonsense. Impossible to listen to in the home environment.
I appreciate that the Beatles were pioneers of the post rock n roll pop era but that's it. They were a lightweight pop band with some catchy tunes. Lennon and McCartney have to be the most overrated song writers of all time. There's some good pop songs on Revolver but also some dross. Plenty of far better albums came out in 1966.
Yet another album with few redeeming features. Why is it on this list ? I persevered with it but Performance was the only track worth listening to.
I'm sure the people behind this thought they had created an avant garde masterpiece but , to me , it's just a mishmash of random sounds. The singer tries numerous styles over the album and doesn't do any of them well. Some folk probably love this but not me.
It's taken me a long long time to appreciate Talking Heads. This album has good and bad. It's a 3 from me
I would fully expect this album to be on this list as it has been revered since it's release. It's not really my thing and I heard it for the first time only recently. The musicianship and sound are fantastic. Some of the tracks are very good but others are just nonsense.
I'm a big fan of early Cure but this isn't their best album. There's some great tracks like Play for today and , my favourite Cure song , A Forest but why would you open an album with the turgid A reflection? It would cause first time listeners to turn off. A mixed bag of brilliance and meh...
Probably Rods finest. Only a poor cover of That's Alright drops it from 4 stars to 3
A good album but not the best by R.E.M. A few weak tracks in my opinion.
Nice tunes but not my thing.
I've tried to like Coldplay , I've tried so hard but oh god they are so so boring
Pleasant enough but not to my taste.
I was 14 when this came out. I was into the mod/ska scene so , although I liked this , it didn't fit in with the crowd I hung with so I didn't have it in my collection. Listening to it now it's a top album of its time and still holds up.
A huge disappointment after the first 3 albums. Only the hit song Our House rises above the rubbish.
Old fashioned jazz . Ok for a short while then gets tedious
I didn't like it when it came out. I still don't like it. Self indulgent tuneless crap
I've only been doing this 6 weeks and this is my 2nd Yes album. Were they really so ground breaking? Nice musicianship and some ok tunes but prog isn't my thing.
I've been a fan of Dexys since the first album. I love the way their style changes with every album with Rowlands distinctive voice linking them together. This is definitely not their best album. Only a 3 from me.
One of the iconic album covers that was in every record shop in the 80s. Meh ... Dreary rubbish
Good old foot tappin rock n roll. Lots of familiar songs.
If you have trouble sleeping put this on and you'll nod off in no time. More soporific crap from the most overrated person in the music business. Track 6 says it all "Junk"
I'd never heard of Mike Ladd and I'll be happy if I never hear of him again.
Unfortunately this doesn't have the impact of a White Stripes album. I lasted 4 tracks and got fed up.
The Boss has undoubtedly got some great songs but he can be very dreary too. This album is on the dull side
Upbeat , toe tapping feel good beats.
Crap
Pop Rock at its best and all by more or less one guy. Easy listening.
Electro Euro Pop. Elevator music. Instantly forgettable.
.
Not my thing.
No doubt a hard hitting album when it was released but it hasn't aged well. It sounds like a comedy parody.
I didn't think I would like this but it was quite good.
What can I say? An absolute classic rock album. Fantastic
Not great compared to their studio albums
A wonderful chunk of US punk with nods to Blondie , the Fleshtones , The Stooges and Talking Heads. Why have I never heard this band before?
Pretty uninspiring guitar pop. Nothing exceptional.
Great debut from a talented artist.
A new one for me which I'm surprised about as I liked a bit of punk back in the late 70s. Great album
Fantastic indie pop rock album. Great to listen to it again.
Bad
I've known this album for a long time. It's a long standing favourite. Great upbeat funky sounds
If you like country and Dylan then this is for you. I like neither. This is boring
I'm a fan of Elvis , have been since I was a kid in the 70s. I understand why this is an important album but listening to it now it's hard to understand why Elvis became the superstar that he was. Blue Suede Shoes is a great first track but after that it's just a lot of bad covers of songs that had been done much better by other artists. This hasn't aged well.
I've tried listening to the Fall before but never really liked them however I quite liked this one. Post punk fun.
I wasn't expecting to like this but surprisingly I did. It's an interesting collection of world music and different vocalists. Every track is very different
Some interesting orchestral arrangements of well known tunes. Unfortunately Hayes laid-back style and the long drawn out songs make this album a bit tedious. The songs could have been half the time they are.
Jazz Funk brilliantly arranged , produced and marketed for the pop charts. I challenge any listener not to , at the very least , tap their feet to the entire album.
Reminds me of Alan Price and The Kinks of the same era. Some good songs and some very ordinary songs. The guy definitely had something but it hasn't aged well. Ok but I won't listen to it again.
Strange that I got Oedipus Schmoedious the day after Nilsson Schmillson!! I'd never heard of Barry Adamson but the album is not bad
Incredibly boring country rock. Dr Hook came along a couple of years later and did it so much better.
I'm familiar with this one having owned the double album for more than 40 years. Not his best but still good.
Ok but nothing special. I'm not really a fan of Pavement.
The two memorable singles are the top tunes on this album. The rest is pretty average. Not bad but it doesn't deserve to be included on this list.
14 short , sharp punk bangers that could be from 2 decades earlier. Great stuff....
I know this album well having owned it for a long time. It's a great piece of indie pop/rock sitting in between The Cranberries and Skunk Anansie in terms of pop and rock.
Nice enough laid back indie. Background music. Not for me.
A weird mix of musical theatre and thrash metal. It's a hard listen. Longue Route is one of the few highlights.
A fantastic collection of funky soul with gritty lyrics influenced by the mean streets of 1970s USA.
One of the greatest albums of all time. There's not a bad track on it. Bowie , like most artists, is responsible for some absolute rubbish but this is him at his peak. Sheer brilliance
Not my thing. I managed 3 tracks. They all sounded the same. I gave up.
Ok but a bit dreary at times.
I ignored this when it came out as we already had Blondie , Talking Heads , The Clash , The Jam , The Dammed etc etc etc. I thought this was just mid 70s AOR..... How wrong I was. This was my first time hearing this and it's pretty good.
An odd mix of bangers and dross. Proof that even the best aren't perfect. Brilliant at times , awful at other times.
I've been a fan for over 40 years. I love this album
It's ok. Not their best but ok
The Offspring were at the forefront of the 90s punk revival and this excellent album shows why. There's not a bad track on it.
More rubbish from the most overrated man in pop music. Dreary dreary dreary. Only Jealous Guy gets pass marks but that was done better by Roxy.
In the 50s young white kids were desperate for music of their own , not the old fashioned stuff their parents were listening to. Rock n Roll was the answer and the Crickets were, briefly, at the forefront. Their stripped back instrumental sound and harmonic vocals went on to influence many other acts. This is still great to listen to almost 70 years later.
Meh , pretty rubbish
A mix of brilliance and rambling self indulgence. Good and bad in equal measures. Not their finest album.
I didn't expect to like this but it was an amazing bass and drum driven heavy rock experience.
One of THE BEST debut albums. Not a bad track on it.
Ok if I was at a nightclub or rave. No good for listening in the house or car.
Probably in the top 5 Heavy Metal albums of all time. A classic.
Nothing could persuade me to listen to this oddball
I've had this album in my collection for about 40 years. It's a great example of blue eyed r n b.
