LP1 by FKA twigs

Didn't super love this one, kinda sounded like well-crafted noise to me for a lot of it. Don't get me wrong, I recognize the artistry and the talent it took to create that, and it really was all cohesive and musical, but it was just too noisy for my general taste.

May 14 2025

A lot of Queen songs I've never heard before. Showcases a variety of musical thematic switches and storylines fading between songs. 1st album of this journey, and a pretty great one to get to start on. I think you might have to be pretty biased to think this is not a "good" album.

Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots by The Flaming Lips
May 15 2025

Pretty sure this is my first intentional listening of anything by The Flaming Lips. This was definitely a unique album but full of talent and insane creativity. A couple of songs that I didn't love listening to but they served a proper narrative purpose. Really cool. Not sure yet if I'm going to be rating these on the album as a piece of art or my personal opinions of them... This would be high as a piece of art but my opinion was maybe a 3.5

Dookie by Green Day
May 16 2025

A lot of bangers I didn't realize were on the same album, and didn't realize this was Green Day's major debut album. Definitely an introduction of a unique sound to the scene. Some of the harmonies and vocal patterns sound Beach Boys reminiscent sometimes.

May 19 2025

Four solid albums in a row. Really enjoyed this one, felt like a good mix of Cash songs and Cash covers. Just sort of an iconic figure in country/rock. Older Cash but I think his voice aged well for the style most of this sounded like.

White Blood Cells by The White Stripes
May 20 2025

Interesting album, I wouldn't say my favorite ever. Very "White Stripes" and by that I mean I think they are very good at making noise very musically. I don't think anything necessarily stood out to me on this album except one or two of the popular songs.

Deja Vu by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young
May 21 2025

I liked this one. Great musicianship, tight harmonies, enough variety that you can tell different people were the lead writers for each song. A couple of the big ones stood out to me, but heard the title track for the first time and most of the others. I really enjoyed just about everything on this, but not sure it would become part of my regular rotation. Did add to library.

LP1 by FKA twigs
May 22 2025

Didn't super love this one, kinda sounded like well-crafted noise to me for a lot of it. Don't get me wrong, I recognize the artistry and the talent it took to create that, and it really was all cohesive and musical, but it was just too noisy for my general taste.

Copper Blue by Sugar
May 23 2025

I think grunge, and grunge-adjacent, is something that I can listen to but I wouldn't necessarily choose it. A good album overall, nothing that really blew me out of the water but generally solid.

Let's Stay Together by Al Green
May 26 2025

Liked this one. Mostly some pretty easy listening, but made it really enjoyable. An album I wouldn't mind just popping on to start off the morning or to start winding down just before sunset.

Songs From The Big Chair by Tears For Fears
May 27 2025

Pretty decent album. A couple of big hits on one album, and good to hear the context for Broken fully. I don't think anything super stood out to me re: style or composition or music, but maybe I just don't know the specific history about this album.

All Mod Cons by The Jam
May 28 2025

This is the sort of underground garage stuff that I don't really like but I can kind of tolerate. This kind of stuff would be on in the shop all the time. Very nostalgic for that reason but not my favorite album. Very "of the genre", and did have some cool sound switches.

Guitar Town by Steve Earle
May 29 2025

I quite liked this one, and reading about Steve Earle as I listened I liked it even more. Good country, very naive of the life that was about to follow him. It was a good mix of up-tempo and more ballad style, and I particularly enjoyed "Little Rock 'N' Roller"

May 30 2025

Progressive rock like this is cool, but I can only listen to it in small doses. This was very exemplary of that genre and I did enjoy it for that but I don't think it's one I would put on again. But then again, I do put on the Dead...

Green River by Creedence Clearwater Revival
Jun 02 2025

CCR, not much else really needs to be said. Very distinctive sound and kind of a mix between rock and country. I enjoyed hearing some stuff beyond their big hits and how the tones changed throughout but the sound stayed the same.

You Want It Darker by Leonard Cohen
Jun 03 2025

What a way to put out your death album, I suppose. Nothing on this album really spoke to me, but go off, Leonard Cohen, I was unfamiliar with your game. Really interesting stuff and aptly named album, it was a... unique listen for sure. Very just sort of gravely and dark. I originally gave this album a 2 when I first listened to it but then I read more about it and I was inspired to give it another go. It's pretty damn good, actually. I didn't much care for it musically but the dude is talented and this actually was quite a beautiful description of a man, facing death, battling with his understanding of god and religion. At least, that's how I re-listened to it. Yeah, great work.

Wonderful Rainbow by Lightning Bolt
Jun 04 2025

I don't think it will be an unheard opinion to say I wasn't a fan of this one. It was musical and it was complex, and it took some insane talent and practice to create this. But, just not for me.

Dare! by The Human League
Jun 05 2025

This project is really showing me what songs I've heard but don't know, and this album had a couple. Cool to see where they've come from and I think this was a nice album, don't have much other experience with The Human League to compare but the article mentioned they had a membership change, so interesting to see they had such a massive hit with that and then placed it as the last track of the album. Good overall, but not one that'll be entering my favorites most likely.

evermore by Taylor Swift
Jun 06 2025

I really enjoyed this one. I felt like a lot of the intro tracks brought Taylor back towards her country roots but showcased a more mature songwriting than previously. This album was a great example of emotion into music, and did an excellent job switching between styles inside each song to explain that journey. I don't think I've listened to much of Taylor's stuff past like 2018 so this was a nice one to hear.

Brothers by The Black Keys
Jun 09 2025

Hell yeah, The Black Keys. I have loved this group since I heard Lonely Boy for the first time, and Brothers is so quintessentially them. Bluesy, rocky, muddy, skunky, all things I would say make The Black Keys a band I could listen to all the time and they always make me feel real cool.

This Is Fats Domino by Fats Domino
Jun 10 2025

I don't think I've spent much time listening to Fats on purpose, but I do know the classics. Is it a copout to use a compilation album as an example? I digress. He was one of the greats, and had such a good sound. I'm surprised they didn't choose a compilation with "Ain't That a Shame?" on it, though. I don't think this necessarily sticks with me as anything exciting but I'm not overly well versed on him. It was pretty good and some great rhythm and blues.

White Ladder by David Gray
Jun 11 2025

I really liked this album, right from the first song. It immediately made me sentimental for England and I remember listening to that track on the tube and just thinking how perfect it was. The album as a whole was a great journey. So, so talented and expressive and communicative.

The Idiot by Iggy Pop
Jun 12 2025

I enjoyed this one a fair bit. Yet another one I'm not sure I've ever listened to before, but it was very unique and interesting to hear. Quite a bit of that early like rock-into-pop crossover but a good bit of some of the, for lack of a better phrase coming to mind, the like "spooky trippy" kind of sound? Which makes sense seeing it was produced by Bowie.

Smile by Brian Wilson
Jun 13 2025

This one was pretty interesting, very Beach Boys but I can also see how this strayed from "their sound". With Brian Wilson's death I think we all got one of his albums which was a unique experience. I read the entire Wiki article on this album and it was riveting, and then I went and read the one for "Smile" as well. Crazy. This was a masterclass, though. So much artistry and talent in the songwriting and overall composition.

Diamond Life by Sade
Jun 16 2025

This was a pretty good album, with a really strong start, but to me it kind of blended together towards the end. Frankie's First Affair really stood out to me for the time signature changes, and a couple other songs had some memorable bits.

Eliminator by ZZ Top
Jun 17 2025

Pretty solid album from the men with the big old beards. Has that sort of badass bluesy/country rock type feel. Really tight-playing band and all the tracks keep that move on. Will say that towards the end a lot of the tracks sounded similar to me, but I liked it overall.

Foo Fighters by Foo Fighters
Jun 18 2025

Definitely 'Foo Fighters' enough to be a self-titled album. I enjoyed hearing some songs that, showing what I don't listen to a lot of, I'd not heard before. Great range across the album with a mix of very hard, almost metal, sound with some lower down and more mellow songs, too.

Cheap Thrills by Big Brother & The Holding Company
Jun 19 2025

Pretty decent album, but I don't really think it was my favorite. I wonder if I'm not the biggest fan of Janis Joplin but overall it was a good rock and roll/blues album. Eh nothing really memorable stood out to me, though I did know one song that I didn't realize was by this group.

Led Zeppelin II by Led Zeppelin
Jun 20 2025

I just pretty generally enjoy listening to Led Zeppelin. Exceptional classic rock, so much talent and the ability to switch between that carnal sound and something soft.

Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness by The Smashing Pumpkins
Jun 23 2025

This was a really long album, and I owe it another listen all in one go to really absorb it. The gist of it this go-around was that there were some good ones, and some I had heard before, but I had a hard time getting through it and I don't super care for these folks.

Jun 24 2025

I really love Coldplay, unashamed of that. I don't think this is their absolute best work, but it's pretty far up there and it's got one of my favorite of their songs on it. Great pull for today.

In A Silent Way by Miles Davis
Jun 25 2025

I enjoyed the overall vibe of this one but I wouldn't say it was anything special to me. Some folks saying this was a sort of process switch for Miles, but I'm not so familiar with him that I'd know. Long songs, though. Pretty cool to hear those just keep on going and not get too repetitive to me.

The Number Of The Beast by Iron Maiden
Jun 26 2025

Don't think I've ever listened to an Iron Maiden album before. This was a good one, and even writing this review a couple days after I have some of the refrains echoing in my head. Enjoyed it a bit.

Moon Safari by Air
Jun 27 2025

This was a good album but it wasn't anything special to me. Good compositions in there but I don't necessarily think I'd pull this one up on my own accord to go through again.

Nevermind by Nirvana
Jun 30 2025

They're popular for a reason, and this is one of them. Class album all the way through, and some serious heavy hitters.

Deep Purple In Rock by Deep Purple
Jul 01 2025

Deep Purple have such a defining sound, but in that same regard I do sometimes get a little over the, erm... cacophony. Yeah, that. I still quite enjoy them and this album was all ones I'd never heard before, because really I've mostly listened to Machine Head by them

So by Peter Gabriel
Jul 02 2025

Pretty good. Took me a couple attempts to get through it but I enjoyed the songs and Peter Gabriel's very distinctive tone.

Vol. 4 by Black Sabbath
Jul 03 2025

I liked this one a lot, my first time listening to Black Sabbath through. Very talented group. I may not always write a review moving forward unless something specifically sticks with me or warrants it

Apocalypse Dudes by Turbonegro
Oct 21 2025

Pretty good album, good sound and catchy tunes. But a lot of cursing? That's punk rock though I guess

Loveless by My Bloody Valentine
Oct 22 2025

Pretty decent album, again sort of grungy and not my favorite style but also my first time really hearing this group in a big go.

Oct 23 2025

Never really listened to any GM before. Pretty good, recognized one of the songs. Not sure if I'd return mindfully, though.

After The Gold Rush by Neil Young
Oct 24 2025

Enjoyed this one. Lot of good lyrics and music and makes sense why he's considered one of the great songwriters

Achtung Baby by U2
Oct 28 2025

I like U2, and I liked this album

For Your Pleasure by Roxy Music
Oct 29 2025

w/ Brian Eno, who I've listened to with Fred again.., very full circle. Overall this was okay, didn't love a lot of it but kinda cool.

Oar by Alexander 'Skip' Spence
Oct 30 2025

Certainly clear that this was acid-influenced. Definitely some interesting stuff on here.

Good Old Boys by Randy Newman
Oct 31 2025

This was not what I expected from Randy Newman. Shocking off the bat, but I'm glad I read more about the context of the album and the design. I'm not comfortable with it still, but it was a very interesting take on southern lifestyles and traditions while making a point that tradition doesn't justify. Unique.

Bookends by Simon & Garfunkel
Nov 04 2025
Blood And Chocolate by Elvis Costello & The Attractions
Nov 06 2025

There may be great lyrics behind all of this, but musically it’s generally not for me. Apparently he’s majorly influential to the 80s sound, so… good for him

...And Justice For All by Metallica
Nov 07 2025

Really enjoyed this one. Long songs, driving, good sound, and “One”

Bad by Michael Jackson
Nov 11 2025

I have always generally enjoyed MJ, first time through this. Good album.

Heaux Tales by Jazmine Sullivan
Nov 13 2025

Aptly named. Not for me, but kind of a cool concept album.

Aqualung by Jethro Tull
Nov 17 2025

Absolute banger. Rock flute rules.

Underwater Moonlight by The Soft Boys
Nov 21 2025

Not to be dramatic, but it stands to reason that prawns would, in fact, be down by the sea. I'm not sure we needed 6 minutes of reminding us of that fairly obvious conclusion.

1984 by Van Halen
Jun 22 2026
Grievous Angel by Gram Parsons
Jun 24 2026

The first song feels like this album starts in the middle of a thought. The third song feels like it would've been well-suited to be the first track, though. I kind of enjoyed this, kind of didn't. As I've gotten more into country rock, it's good to listen to some of the older stuff, too.

Mott by Mott The Hoople
Jun 26 2026

Mostly ups, a couple of downs.

Paul Simon by Paul Simon
Jun 30 2026

That lil vibrato flute sounding thing this guy likes scratches *something* in my brain just right

Haunted Dancehall by The Sabres Of Paradise
Jul 02 2026

Not my particular taste of electronic music, generally. Track 6, Wilmot, was among my favorites. A lot of these songs were interesting in the way they were put together but, and this is one of the hallmarks of this stuff, they were *so* repetitive. Crafted well, but yeah.

Born In The U.S.A. by Bruce Springsteen
Jul 03 2026

Timely album to get today. Whole dang album of heaters - it's a shame people don't listen to the lyrics more for all the songs they love to scream and shout nonsense along with.

Scott 4 by Scott Walker
Jul 08 2026

This guy seems like a hell of a songwriter, and this album could surely be a great experience. Maybe I'll be inspired to listen to it again some day when I'm a little less busy and I can appreciate it more, but I never had a point where I was wholly invested in what I was hearing.

Live At The Regal by B.B. King
Jul 09 2026

Pretty solid 100th album! Good and bluesy, and the way he works the crowd was superb.

Chris by Christine and the Queens
Jul 10 2026

En francais!

Rumours by Fleetwood Mac
Jul 13 2026

Can't even begin to imagine what went on to warrant the creation of this album. Bangers.

Fear Of Music by Talking Heads
Jul 14 2026

Pretty solid album, not my favorite of all time but Talking Heads are a unique listen every time

Purple Rain by Prince
Jul 15 2026

I was really excited to open up today and get this album, but honestly was underwhelmed. It feels really, really busy and maybe that's taking away from what I was hoping to be hearing.

Harvest by Neil Young
Jul 17 2026
Neon Bible by Arcade Fire
Jul 21 2026

Decent but I was generally ready for it to be over

Jul 22 2026

I could play this album the entire way through in my head - I love every single second, and some of the best creativity around.

Solid, solid, solid.
