I give The Score by Fugees a 5. So much fun. The instrumental harmonies uplift each track in a major way. I had heard “Ready or Not” before but I can’t believe I hadn’t heard anything else from this. The transitions between songs like “The Beast” and “Fu-Gee-La” are also incredible. The album rules and belongs in a cultural studies course about the 90s in America.
Sounded punk to me at first listen but upon further inspection it is technically Britpop. I just let Modern Life is Rubbish play after this and got through like most of that because I couldn’t get away from Blur’s sound. Parklkfe is an awesome album with attitude.
A little confused by the country influence that sort of creeps in during Old Friends New Lovers and becomes full force in Say it Ain’t So and Hollywood Kids. I loved Deckchairs and Cigarettes though. Conor Deasy’s voice is hit or miss, though it has hits!
I thought it was Irish but I guess everything is British. Scratched a folk itch and felt really good to listen to while driving by horse farms on the way to work.
Beautiful. Emotional. Irish. Powerful
The album’s namesake is iconic if a bit melodically repetitious. However the rest of the album isn’t nearly as strong
Good for D&D! I don’t know how exactly to score this one.
1/5. Did not like the lyrics. Melodically and rhythmically uninspired. Though I did like the audio sample in Shutdown - “Black men dancing aggressively on TV, I’m so intimidated, I just don’t expect this on daytime television.” But overall I felt annoyed throughout. One more thought scares me; someone out there listens to this and thinks they’re a badass for it. And that scares me
Insane cooking in this album. I don’t know how I can knock anything for it.
Love these guys, the Heads that Talk.
3/5 and I mean that in the way a professor says a C or a B is still not bad. It was nice to hear the full album where It’s The End of the World as we Know It (and I feel fine) comes from. I also think a lot of the album is caveman music. It just has a certain unga-bunga to it.
Like, I want to score these albums in an objective way but I just don’t know how to vibe with what was going on here.
It’s night driving. It’s intellectual. It’s soothing. I like it!
As the album progressed, it just compelled me les. Still not bad though.
This album feels like it’s from the future. It’s got range and attitude. I had a review written and saved but somehow I lost it, but after the first few chords of Peaches en Regalia I knew this was the business.
