1001 Albums Summary

Slowly re rating this periodically. I love this album. Its so fun, every song is catchy 10/10 I love nearly every track, favs however: Welcome to the Working Week, Red Shoes, Mystery Dance

The hits hit... hard. The Working Hour and Broken I like in the context of the album, but I just can't get into Mothers Talk, I Believe, nor Listen. I Believe and Listen so much so that it takes me out from the rest of the album.

Very pleasant to listen to. Enough going on to keep my attention. Although, not typically into classical. 6/10

Took a while to get into it - always had that issue with Pink Floyd. 7/10

So energetic. Didn't know I liked live albums until this one. 10/10

Felt like something was was missing the whole time. Couldn't get through it all :(

8/10 - Really loved this album out of no where. Not something I traditionally listen to but the songs were so interesting and i felt like i was riding the wave. Second half of the album not as strong as the first however

Liked this a lot more than I thought I would. Felt a lot of personality in this album. Didn't care for crocodiles earlier in the experience, but this is much better - 7/10

Some of the bigger hits just feel so polished I find it hard to latch on to (Send My Love To Your New Lover, for example). But the songwriting is great and Adele has one of the best voices of our generation - 7/10

I generally don't like older music like this, but it was really good. Easy to swing your body to, great song writing. 8/10

6/10 - A warm reception from me. Pleasant to listen to, but I don't find myself saving or wanting to come back (for now). However, I loved the ending Eclipse; the build after a slower album is really nice. Ultimately, I found every song a little too samey, and everything blended together leaving me wanting more memorable moments However, I could totally see myself coming back to this slowly over the years, i do believe it is very well made.

Not quite my cup of tea, mostly indifferent. 5/10

It was a tough listen first time through. Almost left it at that. But upon a second listen,,, I think there's something magical there. I haven't quite grabbed it, but from paying deeper attention to some of the lyrics in passing, i think there's something deeper here. Its not an easy listen however 6/10

I dont know if 1001 is wearing me out of Brit Rock (been getting a lot of this lately), but I found myself tired of listening to the album by the end of it. Favorite tracks: Do The Strand, Strictly Confidential 6/10

On every listen I liked this album more and more. Its eerie, industrial, and very well made; I can hear the influence it's had for similarly sounding projects today (like FKA Twigs). 8/10 Fav Track - Machine Gun. Love the driving punchy beat

A good mix of familiar early 70s bowie and experimental bowie. Its a very interesting album, eerie and mysterious at points, jazzy, ethereal... Fav Tracks: Speed of Life, Be My Wife Sadly, didn't care too much for the back third of the album. It honestly seemed a little out of place compared to the first 2/3rds

Its fun. Catchy, they use the samples so well it feels like they're the originals lol. The only thing I don't like is that by the end, I'm a little worn out of their constant aggressiveness - but that's what this album is Fav Tracks: No Sleep Till Brooklyn, Brass Monkey, Girls 7/10

Just awesome. This album goes hard, they rock hard. I'm not familiar with hair rock, so perhaps i'm more inclined into this album since its new to me. but really loved this album through to through 8/10 Fav Track: Child in Time

Really good. Nice flows No real stand outs (im notoriously bad at hooking myself into older school rap), but all quality. 8/10

Wasn't the biggest fan. It has its moments (1 min mark of Easy is phenomenal), but overall wasn't able get into it 6/10

Reminds me of James blake and Perfume Genius. Honestly, I really liked this album, the whole album is very strong through and through. Phenomenal song writing and singing; it feels that every few minutes on this album everything just comes together into a lush explosion of sound 8/10

Love this album - Elton is such a great song writer. 2/10 - I just could _nawht_ get into this. I'm not a fan of their vocals generally, but gee golly, at some points I had to press the skip. The overly compressed vocals on "B-Boys Makin' With The Freak Freak" 😪 They sound like they're yelling from so far away on sabotage... and the instrumental is washed out - it feels just a bit muted... It's a shame b/c I really like the beats. 9/10 - I appreciate this album so much more during the 1001 challenge than when I listened to it before. The album is so varied and incredibly well crafted. I usually find most albums fall short during their slowest songs, but Queen's slow points are so rich that there's still a bunch to be listening too (eg: Love Of My Life). Its weird too - the acapella on The Prophet's Song?? 6/10 - My journey with this album is just as weird as this album is. At first I didn't like it. Then I thought I didn't like it. Then I noticed that something was there. Then I realized I might like it? 8/10 - Its weird in a way that grows on you. Had to turn my Spotify streaming quality up to appreciate it. Its passionate, its catchy, its weird. 9/10 - Really solid album. Not a weak point on the album. Really loved this. 7/10 - I've never been into metal and that's one of the things I appreciate about the 1001 project; I liked this and I never would've listened to anything like it before. I don't listen to any metal so a lot of the songs are pretty samey to me, but it didn't detract from the experience - still really enjoyed it! Favorite part was the call and answer on Take No Prisoners. Plus, the album cover? 7/10 - One thing I love about the 1001 project is listening to music across generations. I hear sounds that I heard when listening to the Mama's and the Papa's (in A Minha Menina) and when listening to Love (in Trem Fantasma). Senhor F sounds very Beatles like. Its really cool hearing all that The album had its moments for me. But I think its experimental aspects put me off a bit. 5/10 - Its impressive how the album devolves into madness over its hour runtime. Seriously, every song gets further and further from sanity until it brings you back with "Bing Me Coffee Or Tea". That being said, it is a little too mad for my taste. A+ for effort and I actually really enjoyed the first half of the album. 4/10 - Maybe its monday morning. Maybe i'm overwhelmed with being behind by 5 albums (after i told myself I won't be behind again), maybe I'm just sad that everyone I rooted for in the world cup lost. But, I didn't like this project. I think the "Born to be wild" cover covers it best - vocals aren't as good, rifts seem to go hard but lack depth and are flat. From the jump i thought that the opening guitar rifts were flat and that did not improve. It has its moment, I don't hate _every_ part. 2/10 - I've never been into 90s rap and I just could not get into this at all. Maybe on another day I'd be more receptive? His voice feels washed on most tracks - its a lot clearer on "What the Blood Clot" so not sure why so much of the album he's washed out. 8/10 - The trouble for me with albums that have so many megahits, is that those songs are so familiar that they take me out of the album experience. It's like listening to Will Ferrel in Blades Of Glory when he says "No one knows what it means, but it's provocative... it gets the people going!" -- it doesn't feel like Will Ferrell it feels like a kanye sample. And that definitely happened to me this album. Luckily, it felt more cohesive second and third listen through. And boy do I like so much more than just the hits. I thought Man In The Mirror would be my favorite, but I think its actually really like "The Way You Make Me Feel" (and never heard of it before... 800 million plays wowwwww 🪨). I feel transported to an indie film when Liberian Girl plays and am now just realizing that its not Librarian girl xd Every song basically has something going for it - Leave Me Alone is on right now and its pretty fire, ngl. Only thing holding it back is that *that* 80s vibe never sits well with me. 9/10 - Didn't like This Girl Is Mine at first. Then I actually listened to Michael's conversation with Paul and its low key hilarious. Loved the songs I haven't heard before. Big fan of this honestly. The only knock i have against it (keeping it from a 10) is that the three mega hits in the middle I just feel like breaks up the flow of the rest of the album. Part of that is because they're so familiar to me that its hard to hear them _in_ an album and not as individual songs. Even on some of the lesser liked songs, such as Mamunia, have redeeming qualities (love it when they sing "Mamunia", very catchy).
