Insane gap between the can and the should on this one
It's... interesting. It has its moments.
Do you like Squarepusher, Queen, Maria Callas, Metallica, Paco de Lucia, Muse, Venetian Snares, Erik Satie and Mayhem? Can you imagine them all performing together on the same track? Well thanks to Igorrr, imagine no more! This ludicrously ambitious Frankenstein monster of an album is the definition of eclectic, and a whole lot of fun!
I’m not familiar with Igorrr, but with October a few days away, I’m hoping that this album’s vibe will be a perfect fit for early fall. Oof, this album was not a perfect fit for anything in my book. I really didn’t care for this album at all, mostly due to the dub step elements that were woven into the metal sound. I found this whole album to be pretty harsh, despite the baroque elements that were used as well. I just couldn’t get into this at all, and there wasn’t really anything here that was appealing to me. I get that there’s definitely an audience for this type of music, but I am not that audience. “Spaghetti Forever” was the only track that came close to anything that was appealing to me. I liked the string intro, and the pounding drums were really cool once they fired up. No offense to the person who submitted this, but it just wasn’t for me.
Glad I listened to it once but I don't think I'd ever listen to it again. Truly amazing range of crap to great and back to crap. It's a whirlwind. Some songs are truly good with interesting layers and mashups of different genres, instruments, and voices like "Problème d'émotion". But then there are other songs which truly are painful to listen to like the opener "Viande". It is interesting, but not consistently good. At the end of the day, I was glad to have listened to it, but I was more glad that it was over.
Woah! That was fucking weird! Hey yeah!
Lol. LMAO even. Still better than crabcore.
Crazy record! At first I thought I don’t like it but it was quite entertaining.
Lmfao that opening killed me. While I don't think this is particularly "good" music it did make me laugh quite a bit and that has to be worth something. For what it's worth the fusion of metal with drum n bass + dubstep as well as traditional folk instruments and classical was entertaining. Never quite knew what was coming next. Reminds me of 100 gecs a bit as well as others in that camp. Low 3
Really had low expectations after the first 7 seconds. This was glonky.
Absolute mayhem from the very opening with the terrifying scream. This is certainly one of the more unique albums I have ever heard in my life. It was like dubstep metal combo that I didn't know could go together but it was pretty cool. Never would listen to this again or anything close to it but I am happy I have heard this type of music once in my life to know that cetain madness still exists.
Ah what a way to start an album just screaming. What a funky ass album. Problème d'émotion is one of the coolest songs I've heard in awhile. That was wacky. Not really sure what to think.
A lot of heavy music is predictable. I always thought there was only so much you could change and still be heavy. This album proves me wrong. It's all over the place - sludge, blast beats, glitches, klezmer, classical - without sounding like a novelty. I knew the artist by name. They were mainly popular with people whose tastes are very different from mine, so I never checked them out. I'm glad I did now.
Wtf was THAT?!?
This was really interesting. Love the baroque fusion, but the vocals really killed it for me. 2.5/5
A bit mad in parts, some truly awful stuff but 'Houmous' & ' Au Revoir' made the playlist for further listening.
This war pretty nuts. I had heard "Cheval" before, so I knew what to expect, mostly. It sometimes feels like they're throwing everything in to the mix to see what will stick. Regardless, I found it fun. The Mrs. will probably not like it. Top tracks: "Viande", "Opus Brain", "Spaghetti Forever", "Cheval", "Au Revoir"
Just because an album is unique, it doesn’t mean it’s a must here. I do not want to listen to every genre of music at once, and that is what is provided here. I will never listen to this again, and I’m disappointed that I had to listen to it once.
This is fairly unique I have to say. After an array of average, perfectly executed rock albums by American and UK bands I come to something that defies any genre. It's pleasant in places and awful in others but it's certainly entertaining.
It's another metal album, though with a twist in that it's a bit interesting at times.
Everything, everywhere, all at once.
I can't accuse this thing of being boring which given many other albums on the OG list and user list, I have to applaud. It's wildly all over the place touching many, many genres, seemingly multiple within the same song. It's something alright. But it's not for me. It's a little too wild and all over the place for it to be coherent. I appreciate that it exists but its ultimately not for me. My personal rating: 3/5 My rating relative to the list: 3/5 Should this have been included on the original list? No.
What an amazing mishmash of styles. I never knew what quite to expect next!
Kan ju bli mörkrädd för mindre. Gillade dock sista låten. Dels för att det var sista låten och dels för att den åtminstone hade något. Tack vare den så får albumet en otroligt svag tvåa istället för en etta.
This album is so weird. Here is a list of things found on this album.... A) opera singers B medieval renaissance music C) flutes/sitar/weird instruments D) black metal E) screaming F) dubstep G) 8-bit NES music H) chickens/random noise bytes.... I) french bistro music The album starts with dude screaming. I assume that is to make the listener pay attention, because what comes next is hilariously chaotic, but oddly works. It's actually not bad at all. Extra points for being so fucking weird Favourite songs: Apopathodiaphulatophobie, ieuD, Cheval, Houmous, Opus Brain, Spaghetti Forever Least favourite songs: Va te Foutre, Robert 4/5
This was a lot better and more interesting than I thought it would. Very eclectic for sure.
Welll I could get through about 4 seconds before I realized this is something that I would absolutely hate this. So no thank you.
Absolute rubbish. Had to go thru the reviews to see what ppl like about this and the supposed variety of genres was mentioned by more than a few of you. More fake than the Lucky Charms cereal I had this morning. Just throwing different colour freeze dried marshmallows together doesn't give you automatic points for diversity. e.g. An accordion does not automatically define or change the genre. How about "this album sounds like shit" - over compressed OCD absurdity that adding a harpsichord on a song or two will not cover up the fact that there's just a fkng guy endlessly screaming like a tweaker outside my city apartment at 3am. 1/10 1 star IMO: Belonged in the book? No.
Death metal techno opera plus. I am here for it.
rrr!
Well that was certainly... something. Some of the instrumentation is fascinating and enjoyable but wow the vocals are insufferable. I'm not really sure what the hell I just listened to.
Curioso disco. Música electrónica en su mayor parte, mezclada con variedad de estilos de todo tipo, algunos más estridentes que otros, predominando el metal más agresivo y con más velocidad. Cambios brutales de ritmo. Encaja en algunos momentos.
I dabbeled in breakcore before and artists like Venetian Snares, Droon, Sickboy (Milkplus) and Duran Duran Duran so I kinderen know where Igorrr is coming from. Other artists in the genre blended metal in their sound before (like Drumcorps) but none of them invaded the metalscene like Igorrr did. The opera could be a downfall but it doesn't bother me here. I must admit, the balls on the user who chose this album must be huge, that must be alot of negatives to see, i must guess. Great choice OP!
Truly awesome. The mixture of basically dub-step with metal is inspired.
Better than I anticipated, especially when it started out terribly. Had some interesting moments...Art Metal. 2/5
one song in i knew this was going to be basically unlistenable
Sure, dude, I can go for some of this every now and then. Weird genre combinations are usually sick, and this is no different.
I will give them that they at least used screaming in interesting ways. I still don't like it though.
Great album, the only one not too weird, nicely balanced styles. Starts very edgy, but surprisingly it should be accessible for fans of many genres. Not a fan of the band outside of that album though. And I would never thought I would find this record on the list!
I don't know if it's fair to call this music. It's more like an aural assault from multiple angles at the same time. I can imagine seeing someone like Charlie Sheen saying "This is why you don't take Ketamine and LSD at the same time. It's like you're simultaneously sodomizing and being sodomized by goats."
Shoot it into my veins please. Yeah I gave every Metallica, Sabbath and Maiden album a 5, I could easily fit the archetype of "I just don't like when they scream." But this thing goes absolutely wacko mode. You never know what's coming next and I love it
Uh oh. Three vivid screams right up front. not really my vibe. 1 Weirdly, it got better. I'll bump it to 3 for being well outside my comfort zone, but also cool.
This get 2 stars purely for its ambition and weird mix of numerous genres of music. Unfortunately as music that I want to listen to regularly, I don’t think that would ever happen. It’s all over the place and it doesn’t form a coherent or enjoyable piece. Cool find though
Metal. Ruidos. Mezcla rara con otro tipos de música. Un sinsentido. No me va. Un 1.
Metal. Muchos gritos. Muy raro. No es nada agradable escucharlo.
I don’t k le what this was or is but I needed that scream.
Weirdly and wonderfully wacky. One can't recall hearing harpsichords, accordions, klezmers and sitars on a metal record before (a little disappointed there's no glockenspiel). That and the zany and vaguely hyperpop-ish digital effects more than break up the dreaded jug-jug-jug drudgery.
Gautier Serre is one crazy motherf*cker for sure. But also a very talented one. I may not fully enjoy *all* of the many stylistic turns he dabbles in here, but I can 100% respect his overall intent. The very definition of "thinking out of the box" put into music. 3.5/5 for the purposes of this list of essential albums, rounded up to 4. 8.5/10 for more general purposes. What a fun, eccentric metal album. It's filled with folk music and symphonic overtones, with plenty of double kick pedal to dance to. I don't always love the vocals, but that's not unusual for me with metal. This is one I want to spend more time with 4/5
The opening "bars" of the first "song" and I was oh no. But pretty quickly I came around. Igorrr is awesome. Album art is just right. A fantastic ball of weirdness with some traditional mooring around the edges. Two thumbs up. Brilliant choice, finisher 174.
Frenetic insanity. I made it to the end, but I was hanging on by a thread. That said, I wish this was on the main list, just so I could see the general user base’s reaction.
This is my kind of mental
July 25, 2025 HL: "Houmous", "Problème d'émotion", "Au Revoir" He just... keeps throwing genres together... like a thoughtless child Listening to this, I couldn't help be reminded of how Muse, one of my favourite bands, got dragged through the mud in 2012 after trying to combine arena rock, EDM and orchestral bombast. I am still a defender of that album, The 2nd Law, even as I have thought it was a BIT much. But no, Igorrr comes and takes a similar approach, except he/they dial it up 1000%. And now I say, the problem is that Muse didn't take it far ENOUGH. As with metalcore, I could only take this "breakcore" stuff in small doses; luckily 40 minutes was a small enough dose.
Well i often say that metal albums have to do something different to get my interest but this is fucking insane. I really don't like it but massivly admire it.
This sounds like they set some guy on fire and then asked him to compose boss battle music for the new Devil May Cry game. Genuinely incomprehensible. Saying "what the fuck am I listening to" is obviously the intended reaction, so I'd say it succeeds in what it's setting out to do, because what the fuck am I listening to. Strong 3/5.
This is a lot.
Oh sure! Take some baroque tunes, industrial noise, and dubstep, throw it in a blender powered by tortured human souls and serve over ice. *ssssip* This actually tastes pretty good. What the hell?!
Got the shock of my life putting this on, thought I was listening to the Tyler creator album Igor, and was hit with a wall of screaming. This is good and very different to the list. Great suggestion.
Experimental metal that occasionally wants nothing to do with metal and does Balkan folk music or classical or dubstep instead. There's a certain amount of appeal that this sort of eclectic approach to metal can bring, but it can end up translating to a less-focused, messy album. Savage Sinusoid seems intent on doing so much in it's fair runtime that it makes me wonder if something could be added to tie it all together and a nice neat bow. The closing track feels like a nice send-off, but just barely covers what I'm looking for in an album like this. Could do with some revisions. CONTENDER FOR THE LIST: There's a few preceding experimental metal bands I would include before Igorrr, so probably not.
Technical death metal pushed to its most ridiculous operatic and electronic extremes. It’s fun, it’s silly, and there are some surprisingly nice moments like the guitar part in Spaghetti Forever - it’s just not always too pleasant to listen to. There’s a bit too much going on all at once, which admittedly seems like the whole point but sometimes an accordion waltz, dubstep, and death growls is more than one song needs
Good to start with, but ultimately became a bit numbing and boring.
This is far from something I would search by myself, even as a metal fan (or almost). However, I subscribe to this whole challenge for this kind of stuff.
Unhinged in an extremely good way. Was very unsurprised to learn the guy's French
insane french metal - in a good way!
My cat was disturbed by this album. Secure your ears for operatic screamcore. Is it my jam? No. I did appreciate this more than Backstreet Boys.
Sorry. Wasn’t my thing.
oh letttsssss gooooooooo. ieuD is way out there. Who ever made this has lost their mind in the greatest way possible. Trip hop samples, opera, killer break downs and an incredible ear for musical pacing. Wow.
To much screaming for my tastes
Dang, that was pretty interesting! Sleepytime Gorilla Museum vibes.
I knew about Igorrr for a while, but it's only recently that I started listening to his music. I thought it was kind of funny that someone would suggest this album and I find it even funnier that is still so polarizing. Personally, I think what he does is cool. I am not blown away by his style, but one thing you cannot say is that it is not unique. The blend of metal/electro/opera/classical/industrial is not something you hear everywhere. The music keeps you on your toes, the way it can do a 180 in style without warning. I think there are some weaker moments here and there (the softer ones especially), but overall it is super fun. Also, the production is impeccable ; it sounds so crisp. 7.5/10
This was unique. Operatic-dub-goth metal with the most random and unique screaming, and lots of quiet folk in between. Points for not sounding like anything else and still being listenable and entertaining.
I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy this immensely. Was really not expecting to hear such a mashup of stuff, it very much appeals to my sensibilities, and while I'm not a fan of accordions generally, the presence herein did not offend me too much. Good choice, good selection, good album.
Interesting, but maybe not for me.
Not as crazy as I used to think it was, but still solid and quite impressive from a production standpoint. If you can find some of the behind the scenes material for how they got some of the sounds on their records I recommend watching those, helps one appreciate the craftmanship even more. “Problème d’émotion” is a personal favourite
Some parts are not bad, but its a very weird mix of multiple styles. It sometimes work OK, rarely great, often shitty.
Didn’t know whether to laugh or cry half the time
Like Slayer boned Aphex Twin. Love it
As eclectic as they get. Makes a great sound. Glad I heard it. Won’t be going back
GFY, OP
Savage Sinusoid is certainly an interesting way to start an early morning drive north, it's not really like anything I've heard before, it's metal, it's trippy, it's got some dubstep, it has classical music, and it's French but also not French if that makes sense. I really liked it and I'd probably listen to it again, in small doses, but I think it might scrape a 4 because it's put together so well and appeals to most of my preferences. It certainly won't for other people.
Very creepy and weird album but that first song was metal as hell.
Now here's a metal album I can support - very weird, strange instrumental and sound choices throughout that not only add an experimental layer but break up the sort of monotony that I struggle with in metal. French artist I believe - pretty solid. I'm keeping a few from this one. Cool pick! 3.5/5
It's been a few years since I last heard this. Great record. It's like Diablo Swing Orchestra, but even more frenetic.
Holy shit, what a fun album! I hope the rest of Igorrr's albums are as good because I'm gonna listen to them all.
Good stuff! It sounds like so many things yet like nothing I've ever heard at the same time. Great suggestion, loved it
This music is total bullshit but for some reason I found myself enjoying it. It’s arty heavy metal dubstep and I liked the production of it even tho it’s tacky and the screaming is annoying. Americans had skrillex in the 2010s and this is the French equivalent I guess.
This album was my submission. When I was thinking of what album to add, I wanted to try to pick something that was far away from anything on the previous list, which was a difficult task given how many albums there already are. This album and the band it's from have been personal favourites for years, and I thought it would bring some variety to the generator. I just love everything about it. It's got everything from metal to baroque to breakcore to accordion and somehow it all comes together cohesively. It's so fundamentally insane as a concept, but still somehow catchy. I hope people are able to enjoy this one or at least get a laugh out of it.
Inarguably the most schizophrenic thing I've listened to in quite a while. It's so niche it's crazy. I've been trying to come up with a good metaphor for what it's like to listen to this, where it might flip from low gutteral growls to the fucking Amen break, but I'm at a loss for words. "Interesting" is the only word that repeatedly flashes in my mind. Favorite tracks: "Opus Brain", "Apopathodiaphulatophobie"
Tengi ekki við þetta
No, not for me. There's no coherence in the music, it doesn't sound like music, it's just noise.
Well, this was pretty abysmal. 0.5/10
I mean … what?
It’s a fusion of styles and ideas that are surprisingly complementary. It’s not a fusion I want though, as a listener. It’s just not my thing. But, I acknowledge that this group achieved what they set out to do, I think. It’s unique, especially from everything else that came out in 2017.
Igorrr knows how to keep me awake. It's not an album that I will ever forget and not to bad either. Quatre points pour l'originalité.
Okay, this was kind of great. If I had to explain this to someone outside of this group, I would not even know where to begin, but it was riveting to listen to. Starts out like a heart attack and then becomes this freewheeling exercise in batshittery which is just so much fun. Just shy of a 4 as it becomes a bit of a blur on the back half. But I enjoyed it. Incredibly creative and weird with a rogue sense of humor. There's also clear musicality in this, which Igorrr takes great pleasure in thrashing to bits every time you relax for a second. It's like the avant garde electronic metal album Zappa never got to make. Fave Songs: Problème d'émotion, Opus Brain, Spaghetti Forever, Robert, Au Revoir
Glad I listened, might not listen again, but it was genuinely interesting. Nice pick
Metal. Ruidos. Mezcla rara con otro tipos de música. Un sinsentido. No me va. Un 1.
Wow! There were times when I was quite reminded of "The Most Unwanted Song" by Komar & Melamid and Dave Soldier. Let's see, opera singer, check! accordion, check! constantly changing genres, check! Other times I thought of Stefon on SNL: "This albums got everything! klesmer, harpsichord, death metal drums, Satie-esque piano, classical guitar, electronia, Inception buttons, screaming maniacs... Sort of like that old weather joke, "Don't like the music playing here? Just wait 15 seconds!" This was the antidote to all those monotonous 90-minute albums in the project. I don't know what the hell is was, but by end I shouted "again!"
Why was it necessary to scream me as the opening of the album??? Oh, I see, it was to get me to pay attention. This was definitely worth the listen. Surprising to me!
Wowwwwwww! I did not expect that. How could I expect that? That was amazing! Well done, fellow hall-of-famer. This album has enriched my life.
