Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
5/5
O Mamma! I was always a fan of Nick Cave, but I never bothered to listen to his full discography, which I'm starting to feel like a massive, massive mistake. Abattoir Blues / The Lyre of Orpheus is an amazing double album. First song, "Get Ready For Love" caught my attention, but third one, "Hiding All Away" cemented its position as one of the best albums I have discovered on this website. This album has a certain great quality - it sounds like a band you have always known, but at the same time it feels extremely fresh, because for some reason I didn't listen to it before. Also, big thanks to The Bad Seeds, with Warren Ellis at the top. The more I listen to his music, the more I fall in love with it. And the quality of music on this double album is really amazing, every song feels like an adventure into unknown. But there is one thing that is unparalleled - Nick Cave's lyrics. "The Lyre of Orpheus" is now one of my favourite songs, his ability to create a story and make it almost immersive is extraordinary. I think I'm not allowed to make any more mistakes, one quiet evening I will listen to the whole discography of Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds. No more excuses, I need to witness more greatness!

Brian Eno did it again. A very specific and experimental album, which is as dividing as possible. This time I have to tap out - if I would want to listen to an absolute lunatic, that has problem hitting any tune in every song, with a bunch of random noise in the background, I would just record myself taking a shower. Couldn't finish, won't try again.

What a great album! This is the first time that I've heard of this band and I'm absolutely devastated it took me this long. Not only the music and vocal are great, but also the album makes references to some of my favourite books! I love the atmosphere of the record, putting some postmodernistic twist in their sound, appropriate to the books quoted on the tracks. I'm only after the first listening, so my emotions are really fresh, but for sure my next weeks will be spent trying to listen Klaxons to the ground. Great start of the week!

What an album! This has to be one of the biggest positive surprises of this list so far. Absolutely original and entertaining record by band Minutemen. Although they are categorised as a punk or post-punk band, I don't really agree with it. This has to be an avant-garde album first and foremost, creating a genre of its own, with funky, jazzy bass line, extremely weird guitar sound and slightly hardcore vocal at times. They somehow managed to squeeze 45 songs in 73 minutes, giving an average of less than 2 minutes per song. And they are all very different, yet somehow still feel aligned one after another. After listening to the album I dived into the usual Wikipedia rabbit hole, reading about the band, their style, about tragic death of D. Boon. I have never heard of this band, yet they remind me so much of more hard-core (or rock) version of Primus. Everything is weird and unusual, yet so entertaining and fascinating. Great album, I will listen to the full discography now, looks like I found another favourite band!

Nirvana
3/5
I never understood why Nirvana became so famous in the first place. It is a really good example of grunge, with a timeless hit 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' and a well known leader of the group Kurt Cobain. But Nirvana wasn't even the best on their own yard - in my opininon Alice in Chains had better and deeper albums, Soundgarden had a very special sound, and even Pearl Jam had a stunning debut album. Yet, Nirvana was the one etched in people's memories. The album itself starts with all bangers - 'Smells..', 'Lithium', 'In Bloom', 'Come as you are', which all in all, are really good pieces. But the drop off after those songs is amazing. Very anonymous songs, more than half of the album being a filler. It is a good album, that for some reason rose to the cult status, but for me that wasn't supported by ability or craftsmanship, but by non-music related stuff. So I am going to rate this album just as form any other band.
