I have only ever listened to one of the Lorde’s track so approaching this with a degree of open mindedness. Really enjoyed the album, Lorde and Sia are of very similar styles both of which I find very pleasurable. Certainly an album that I would add to my favourites and listen to again and again, if I have one criticism it’s the use of bad language within some of the songs, I really don’t understand why that is a requirement these days within music and because of that I gave it a 4 out of 5
To simplify…a musician with a bad back who was hungry, slightly grumpy and playing a piano that wasn’t even the one he asked for and was substandard at that, improvised this piano solo. I’m blown away by it and the talent of the musician. I wouldn’t term this as Jazz, just an absolutely beautiful piece of music. 5/5
Having just listened to Time out by the Dave Brubeck quartet i felt that the 30 years that separated the two albums hadn’t been kind to Jazz. It didn’t flow well for me, the transition from one track to another was too harsh at times. The tracks I enjoyed Mandela - quite punchy and upbeat, it’s gets the album off to a good start. Manenberg revisited- starts slow and builds up, whilst it’s quite repetitive it allows you to follow the beat and relax into it. Tuang guru - reminded me of the backing music to a 1950’s black and white cop film The ones I didn’t Sameeda- too “all over the place” with its beat, just couldn’t relax with it. There’s a couple of tracks I would listen to again, but not the whole album
Like many other albums that are on this list I’m struggling to see why? But that’s the beauty of a list like this, variety and diversity. I didn’t dislike it, I just felt that I had heard the tunes before but with a different artist singing
Before I’ve even listened to one note I am stoked, I lived this album back in the day and it’s been years since I last have given it any AirPlay. Having re listened to it I wasn’t disappointed, every song is a total banger, each hitting home with strong beats, still loving their best known hit unfinished sympathy and ending with the hymn of the big wheel which I think is such a haunting tune
Not my usual listen pleasure but quite enjoyable and very relaxing
I didn’t think I would like this having listened to 5150 and OU812 in the past, however I was really impressed with it. Bluesy in places with just the right amount of EVH on the guitar it was one that I listened to a few times before deciding that early VH material is kinder on my ears that the latter.
Another artist that I’ve never given much listening time to. An interesting album purely because of the environment that it was created in. The relationship between Cash and the audience was entertaining, Cash was quite funny with the chat between some of the tracks. Another album I would listen to again.
Loved this, proper foot tapping jazz, and I’m not a jazz lover in the whole. This ones been added to my favourites for those chilled moments
Having just listened to Time out by the Dave Brubeck quartet i felt that the 30 years that separated the two albums hadn’t been kind to Jazz. Wiki have this listed as novelty, I struggle to see how they get to that. There were hints of grandmaster flash and Herbie Hancock through the album. I’ve heard Double Dutch many times in the past as a single but never ventured into the album, I didn’t know what I was missing Wasn’t keen on duck for the oyster and Obatala didn’t really seem to fit into the album well but the rest of them I could get into and liked
I’m a big fan of yacht rock and quite a lot of steely dans material but this album was one I struggled to get into, and I really wanted to like it as well. I love the production quality, considering it was ‘77, the clarity of the instruments and vocals is very impressive even by todays standards
when I first saw my album for the day was Lou Reed I sank a little, only because when I knew of him was little and my impression was negative. How wrong was I, aside from his well known releases such as Walk on the wild side and Perfect day there are some very good tracks on this album. Andys chest is a little out there, but it does paint quite a picture if you listen to the lyrics, as does Make up, the ones I enjoyed: Satellite of love Perfect day Walk on the wild Side Given that it was released in '72 it was a brave move to talk about alternative sexuality, prostitution and cross dressing all of these things still being quite taboo subjects back then. The Bowie influence is certainly there, there were points in Make up where I didn't know if I was listening to Reed or Bowie. Given that the album is 49 years old its still got a sound that doesn't age it in the 70's
Really struggled with this one. Loved the beats and the melodies but because I didn’t understand the lyrics I felt I was missing out on half the song. Also felt that the tracks were too long, again if I knew what the subject was or what they were singing about it may have made more sense.
I started listening to the 1001 albums with the intention of giving each album at least one full listen. And today I broke that intention. I got about 6 songs in and realised it’s all the same noise but with different (indistinguishable) lyrics attached to the tracks. in 1979 this may have been “cutting edge” today in 2020 it’s just noise, and not the good type either. It should be left in the 70’s it’s hasn’t aged well
Not through lack of trying but I just couldn’t get into this. For me the music just didn’t flow, constant change of tempo and beat made the music feel very disjointed.
Was pleasantly surprised by this one, for world music it sounded a lot more “European” than I had expected. Hints of ska in the music as well. Was very enjoyable
Could not get into this album at all, so disjointed. Really don’t under what all the fuss is about with nick cave
I loved this album when I first hear it in the 80’s and still love it now. The clarity of the guitar in so far away, the sax in your latest trick and Knopflers gravelly vocals throughout. Ride the river, man’s too strong and one world don’t seem to really fit in the album, they’re good tracks but seem to be a bit of an afterthought. Definitely one of my all time top 30 albums
Quite liked this, not my normal listening genre but still it was enjoyable and you can see where early rock and roll/jive/blues has its roots
Listened to a bit of Boston in the past, I was surprised by the range of rock that was on this album, from prog rock to yacht rock through to the harder edge of rock.
I genuinely cannot believe how good that album sounded. I played the first track expecting to hear hard rock, what I encountered was bluesy rock and a bit folky as well. My perception of Led Zeppelin has been totally overturned, and for the better as well
What a voice!! Like many other artists that are listed on here Billie Holiday is another I have never listened to. Such a lovely rich voice that sings with so much emotion, was really impressed with this.
I have only ever listened to one of the Lorde’s track so approaching this with a degree of open mindedness. Really enjoyed the album, Lorde and Sia are of very similar styles both of which I find very pleasurable. Certainly an album that I would add to my favourites and listen to again and again, if I have one criticism it’s the use of bad language within some of the songs, I really don’t understand why that is a requirement these days within music and because of that I gave it a 4 out of 5
Like many other albums that are on this list I’m struggling to see why? But that’s the beauty of a list like this, variety and diversity. I didn’t dislike it, I just felt that I had heard the tunes before but with a different artist singing
I’ve listened to a lot of the tracks on the album individually but never as an album. This was released just before I came of age musically but the tracks have always been there in my life. I enjoy the synth and electronic sounds of the new wave/romantics it has aged a bit but it was the start of a new musical direction. I didn’t realise that seconds was a homage to JFK, quite an interesting song
Not my preferred style of music, I did listen to the album and found that I just couldn’t get into it. Overtones of beastie boys within a few of the songs that didn’t help the music at all. Not one I would listen to again
A very eclectic mix of 60’s musical styles. I could hear Beatles, stones, maybe a bit of the doors as well. Enjoyed it but not something I would rush to listen to
I remember when this album first came out, because of the face that Winehouse was always in the news for various drink, drug and relationship issues I didn’t think much of her, or her music. Fast forward 10 years and I’m listening to it one day, and realised that she was an incredibly talented musician who sadly lived her life via her music….or maybe the music told the story of her life. Either way it’s a very sad story and one that should be a lesson to young talent. She has a great voice that’s able to transmit the feeling of the songs so well, again I’m not a fan of bad language in music and there are the occasional lapses into it in this album. We will never really know the depths of her talent because of her short life but we have a little something to remind us of her
I had no idea that ZZ too had been making music for so long….it came as a real surprise. I hadn’t heard any of the early ZZ top music but I found it very enjoyable, very listenable.
What a voice!! I was familiar with the theme from shaft but have never listened to anything else Hayes has done. Smoother than a cashmere codpiece, I liked it a lot
The more I listened to it the more I liked it. The first two tracks don’t really flow with the remainder of the album. Some of the tracks had hints of the Pierces and the Bangles. Enjoyable and certainly one I would listen to again
A pleasant listen, however if you really want to listen to “relationship music” with a C&W sound to them then I think John Mayer has TS licked. Not convinced it should be in the 1001 albums to listen to but what do I know, I’m just a listener
Very of its time, you can hear all the influences of rock ‘n’ roll within some of these songs
This is C&W at its most original, not my favourite genre but still not offensive. I find the songs very “samey” guitar, vocals and the occasional violin/viola. Interesting to see how C&W has changed in 50 years, Lady antibellum, John Mayer and Taylor swift owe their success to this but are a million miles away from this
Another artist I haven’t spent a lot of time listening to outside of their popular work. I liked it, an insight into music from its time, I can see how Dylan is attributed with influencing so many artists of the late 60’s and early 70’s
I’ve heard a few Rush songs in the past, it’s the genre of music that could pass me by. Of their time, not bad by any means but it hasn’t held the test of time very well.
Just couldn’t get into this album, no matter how hard I tried. Just not my genre
Wow, I’d forgotten just how good this album is, with the exception of the last few tracks everyone is a total banger. 5/5
Whenever I hear Randy Newman I think of toy story, to me they are so linked, and that’s not a bad thing as both are memorable for good reasons. He has a distinctive voice which is quite a mellow, soothing sound, it’s very pleasant. I have never really listened to any of his music before outside of movie tracks, now that I have I want to find out more about his back catalogue
Enjoyed the album with the exception of the first track, it didn’t seem to fit in with the rest. As the album progressed I enjoyed it more, almost felt like they were getting better as we journeyed through the tracks.
A very chilled out album, great for those lazy Sundays when you just want to relax and drink coffee. Would be an album I will be listening to again
Parts of Shakermaker sound like “I’d like to teach the world to sing” They were parts of the album that sounded like T. Rex, Beatles and even Holly Johnson. Oasis were good at self marketing, being in the press a lot when they were up and coming, always courting controversy. But in reality they were no better than a lot of other mediocre groups of their time. Would I listen to this again? No, this isn’t the first time I’ve listened to it and given the gap in time since I last listened to it I would say that my views haven’t changed and it hasn’t improved with age.
I have this playing in repeat in the back garden, it scares the cats and other wild animals away. My god this is awful, that’s an hour of my life that I will never get back, .i truly don’t understand how this made it on to the list, maybe it’s to show the listener just how dire bid music can get
This is certainly not my genre, it is all shouting in bad language, I wouldn’t phrase this as music per se
I remember a lot of singles, she was very vogue at the time. Album is very good, it’s still a test of time even in 2021 it still sounds pretty good and fairly modern.
I wouldn’t term the stranglers as a punk band, they sound like the link between punk and new wave/new romantic that arrived a few years later. You can bet Adam and the ants had been listening to Get a grip on yourself at some point, stand and deliver has quite a few similarities
You can certainly hear the prince influences and contributions, it makes it’s a stronger album imo Up until this album I had been a massive Madonna fan, her change if material/direction wasn’t in my musical taste at the time, now however I get what she was trying to achieve with this album. Ironically there are quite a few good singles on here that were never released and it’s a shame they weren’t as it would have shown the album off a lot more
Certainly not my new favourite band… Musically it feels very incoherent, it’s just shouting at a microphone.
Certainly a lot better sound than one that I was imagining, quite pleasant to listen to. I certainly hear overtones of the Beach Boys in some of the tracks which came as a bit of surprise. One I would possibly listen to again
Very typical Dylan in both melody and lyrics. Enjoyable and moderately easy to listen to, I’m finding that I enjoy Dylan a lot more than it though I would
I really disliked this album and U2 when it came out, primarily because U2 were/are so political within their music and that was something I have always felt should not happen. 35 years laters and I now listen to music in a different way and I have enjoyed this album, it has some great tracks on it
To simplify…a musician with a bad back who was hungry, slightly grumpy and playing a piano that wasn’t even the one he asked for and was substandard at that, improvised this piano solo. I’m blown away by it and the talent of the musician. I wouldn’t term this as Jazz, just an absolutely beautiful piece of music. 5/5
Far more listenable than I had initially envisioned. Some of the tracks are quite mellow and enjoyable, others not so much. Wouldn’t necessarily listen to it again but I did enjoy it
It doesn’t flow like rumours and certainly doesn’t have as many hits as rumours have. But it’s not rumours2. I can see where they were trying to go with this, showing that they were so much more than just one decent album that sold many copies. There is lots of different styles within this album and you can see me disjointedness as well. It’s still an enjoyable listen, it hasn’t aged as well as rumours but it’s still worthy of Its own praise
Listening to this album is like having a crash course in all the alternative music genres of the mid 90’s
I really enjoyed this, have listened to BM over the years but never a complete album. Was pleasantly surprised that so many of his well known hits were on one album, one I would listen to again
Very country and Western Sounding, didn’t really appeal to me as it was quite samey Throughout the album
Classic 70’s funk, and very listenable as well. One that I have never listened to be fore but will again, shame it’s only 40 mins long
Listened to it when it first came out and disliked it then, airplay of the popular tracks only served to reinforce that dislike. 34 years later my feelings still haven’t changed towards this album
Lovely chilled out tunes that just waft over the soul. She has a great voice that’s very versatile, mellow and smooth, you almost get drawn in whilst listening to her. Would listen to again and again
Absolutely awful, nothing but screaming and what appears to be white noise. One upside, there are no cats crapping in my garden now
There were tracks that I could listen to and enjoy and then there others that I had to just skip through. There were some tracks that had a snow patrol sound to them, about 10 years before snow patrol were known of. Not one I would listen to again, didn’t enjoy it
I’ve been a lifelong disliker of abba, it’s the worst kind of bubblegum pop. That said this is a revelation, this album isn’t that bad, yes it has a lot of the Abba sound but almost grown up. 3.5/5
Never been a fan of C&W, just can’t get into the genre. There are tracks on this album that are more listenable than other and the album does tell a story of 80’s America and the struggles that parts of the country encountered.
Love this album, it just shows the versatility of Weller. He is able to deliver so many different genre of music and with so much style.
Early Springsteen is a lot edgier than his later work, more raw and honest. Enjoyable and one I would listen to again
Some of this album was quite enjoyable, after a while however it became quite repetitive and it lost me. Like the production of it and the fact that it stuck firmly to its genre, not an album I would listen to again.
Certainly influenced by grand master flash, samples from Blue Suede and a lot of De la soul sound in it
Not what I was expecting, a lot more listenable and enjoyable. Not something I would listen to frequently but still better than other albums of this genre
Great rhythm with a lot of energy. Would love to know what they are singing about as I feel there is a story here that’s quite interesting
Yep, what an album, even today in 2022 it still sounds modern and good, which is more than can be said for a lot of music that was produced back then.
Quote listenable even though the majority of it is in a foreign language
Morrissey was always “slash your wrists” kind of music, but sometimes with a political stance as well. As a result in my youth I hated it, drab, downbeat and melancholy. Today in reflection I may have been a little too harsh, however it’s still not music I enjoy nor would I search him out on Spotify. 3/5 on a good day
Loved it, the only track I’ve ever heard before was northern sky. It was such a mellow album, one I will save for those days when I’m in need of some soothing chilled out tracks
When this arrived as my album of the day today I was thrilled. It’s been a long while since I’ve listened to this album and my love for it hasn’t changed. Now added to my favourites and will be listened to again and again
I’ve never heard of PT&TR before now but have heard songs like stepping stones in the past. Certainly influences from the beach boys, Rolling Stones and Beatles, as well as blues, skiffle, a bit of C&W as well as 60’s pop. Not a bad album, as others have said it’s a shame they couldn’t have focused their sound a little more and become more individual.
I can understand why people claim this is one of the best jazz records in the world and a most have for anyone who loves jazz. It’s not my go to genre but it is nice to listen to as a chill out/easy listening to groove.
Wow!!! I thought some of the past offerings by the sex pistols was bad, this has taken dirge to a whole new level. It’s absolute rubbish, I’ve heard white noise that has more appeal than this. I suppose that you have to listen to the really bad music to appreciate the mediocre and to love the good. I’m only giving this a one start because I have to award it something, if I could I would have given it a zero
Well that’s 35 mins of my life I won’t get back. I thought public image ltd was bad, this seems to have taken that art form to whole new depths, words fail me. Again, in order to appreciate the good you have to sample the bad, and that’s what this is, the new low point
You can see the beginnings of a Beatles sound in this album, the Lennon McCartney songwriting and harmonies and the distinctive Mersey beat. Not one of the best albums but still one that’s worthy of a listen to every once in a while, for that I’ll give it a four
I love this album, there isn’t a bad track on it and it flows from track to track. It’s been many years since I last listened to it, it’s now on my repeat playlist 5/5
Better than I though it was going to be
I love queen but don’t think this is one of their best albums. Yes it had two of their best known songs on it but the rest of the album were done that were so so.
Awful, well at least the first half was, my ears were bleeding so much it filled the noise of the second half of the album
When I first saw Willie Nelson’s name I was a little bit apprehensive as I am not a fan of country and Western. This album is a lot better than that, it shows just how versatile he is as a singer covering very many different genres. Quite enjoyable as an easy listen .
An absolute banger of an album, there isn’t a bad track on here which easily makes it a 5 out of 5. From the freneticness of I would die for you through two the mellow vibes in the beautiful ones for me this was Prince at his absolute best
Not one of Bowie’s best albums, we’re it not for golden years then it would have been a bit mediocre, still worthy of a 4 as it’s Bowie
A couple of good tracks and a few “fillers” Still an enjoyable album.
Better than I though it would be and there were more singles that I knew than I though I would Certainly a trip down memory lane
This was the genesis of hip house and electro. I can hear herbie Hancock and grandmaster flash in this album, I’m guessing this album influenced them rather than the other way round. Very dated today but enjoyable to listen to just to see how it all began. It’s b bit like watching a planet form, this is the Big Bang moment, from here it Improves and develops and sadly that moment of creation becomes a distant memory
Wtf, I would rather shit in my hands and clap that listen to this!!!!! I finally stopped my ears from bleeding and my eyes have come back into focus now, after three tracks I realise that it is nothing more than noise with some kind of vocal attached to it, it’s a no from me. If I could give it zero I would do so
Loved this when it first came out, haven’t listened to it for about 20 years and sadly it hasn’t aged well. It’s the genesis of commercial DL, you can hear their distinctive sound within the album. Still I would give it a 4 because there were tracks on it that were still very listenable
A better songwriter than singer, i maverick liked billy bragg as I have always felt that politics and music should be kept apart. I’ve mellowed a bit as the years have progressed but I still feel he should stick to songwriting
I don’t know if psychedelia had a common sound or whether this album influenced a lot of bands that were around either at the same time or shortly after that they does Appear to be a very similar sound to other more mainstream groups within this album. Its a bit too psychedelic for me, I get that this is this album is from 1966, it is very much of that time, sadly it doesn’t translate well into the 2020s
French rock is not for me, this album has shown me that
If I hear the pogues mentioned then I normally think of their Xmas hit that’s played to death annually. An interesting album, covering some historical cultural events, it made me look at them in a different light. The band played the waltzing Matilda was the one that stuck in my mind the most
I had forgotten just how good this album is, police at their best imho
Such a chilled album, I love it. This is now one of my go to albums for those time when I want to unwind
It has that undeniable pogues sound throughout the album which is great for a while but with an album of this size it does wear a bit towards the end of the album. The stand out song is the fairytale of New York, however it does feel strange listened to it mid-June when it is now considered a classic Christmas tune
Not only is it noise but it’s noise with an excessive amount of bad language which to me is an instant turn off
I remember when this album came out and I remember the hype and the disappointment…… Of the 11 songs on the album there are just 3 tracks that today stand the test of time, the rest are just album fillers and from an artist like MJ that’s a poor performance. I appreciate that to create an album that follows thriller would always be a tough act to achieve but it looks like MJ didn’t even bother. It’s a 2 from me.
I love this album, haven’t listened to it much recently so when it popped up as the album for the day I was overjoyed. Not a bad track on the album and days like these was the track that my wife and I walked out of the church to on our wedding day. A banger of an album, a 5/5 every day of the week and twice on a Sunday
Didn’t see why all the fuss was about, I wonder if he would have been as famous as he was were he not gunned down. Of its time and not especially outstanding
Its what I imagine Post punk mixed with the Ramones and a little bit of Goth rock would sound like. Certainly not for me
It’s been 20 years since I last listened to DSOTM so when it popped up as the album of the day there was a sharp intake of exciting breath. I immediately wanted to give it 5/5 but held back thinking I really need to revisit it and understand what it was that made me want to give it 5/5. Right from the first track I was enveloped by the music, it’s has so many levels but can also just be listened to as something you bop your head along to. There isn’t a filler song on this album, every single song could stand on its own and they all lead into each other so well. So 20 years later looking at this album through rose coloured spectacles i realise that it isn’t as good as it was when I was listening to it in my 30’s, it’s better, and that's because I understand life and what this album it talking about so much better. 5/5, nah 10/5 yes
The guy is a talentless narcissist who genuinely believes he is gods gift to everything. There are infinitely better unsigned artists out there, why are we giving this idiot airtime? He only gets a 1 because I can’t give it a zero
Very odd and my initial feeling as this was from the 70’s. Not something I would listen to again but not offensive either
As a writing duo with McCartney he was brilliant, as a solo artist I feel he was missing something, and feel the same way about McCartney. Aside from the tracks that everyone knows there was nothing that really stood out in the album.
Genuinely not a bad track on this album and many that are just Beatles at their best. I can understand why why this is considered to be the best album they did, is a look back at their past and a sneak preview of where they were going
No!! Just no, and really fail to understand how it made the list
Very of its time, there was some strong 70’s vibes coming out of this album
How ironic, the day after the queen dies this album pops up in my selection. This album only serve to reinforce just how I felt about Morrissey The Smiths, I find him vulgar and shameless and having managed to avoid The Smiths for so long it’s only reinforced that old feeling
Nope, this genre of metal is not for me
I’m not a fan of Cobains voice, it sounds like nails being drawn down a blackboard. Live and acoustic however, it sounds much better, this is most probably the only Nirvana album that I have got any reasonable enjoyment out of listening to.
I really enjoyed this, an artist I have never heard of, but yet had a big influence over modern music, it’s a list of accomplished musicians on the record sleeve as well It’s one I would listen to again
1986 and I was in two but I turned them as proper metal, when this came out, it was hated by me and my peers as it was felt that this was a solo album. Bon Jovi had become something less than heavy metal. Fast forward 35 years, and I listen to it now with a very different here, I appreciate it as one of those albums change the face of rock. Having listened to it, a few times, I can understand its commercial appeal and what it did for the music genre. It’s not an album that I would listen to regularly but it’s wonder if I were in the right frame of mind I would enjoy
A lot better than I remember it back when it was released. Back then I was into heavier music and this was worse than bubblegum pop, it was the pits, however with my maturity and time it seems now that I can listen to it and appreciate it a little more. It’s still not something I would have as a saved album on my Spotify though but worth of more than 3 stars
Genuinely up there with one of the worst pieces of music I have even encountered. There is nothing endearing, enjoyable or entertaining about this, it’s just noise
I’ve never really given much time to swing as a music genre, and whilst I’m familiar with Frank Sinatra‘s more well-known music, I’ve never actually listened to any of his albums. It was a pleasant, listen, nice beat easy to listen to, and quite relaxing. Overall an enjoyable album And one that surprised me as well
I’ve never given much time to Rod Stewart, the music he has charted with has never really appealed to me so when this landed on my playlist I was fairly ambivalent towards it. It’s a lot better than I had given credit for, and I can now see why People rate him as an artist. I still haven’t truly changed my mind about his chart music, but this album as an individual piece was an interesting and enjoyable Listen
Have always been well aware of who Ella Fitzgerald is, but never really listens to her music. It’s quite chilled and relaxed, but still up-tempo and relatable, from an era when life appeared to be a lot simpler. Enjoyable, but maybe not something that I would seek out to listen to again.
It’s a big NO from me Just not the genre of music that appeals to me, having listened to it I wouldn’t do so again
It was like going back to 80’s hip hop, but in the 90’s!!
This is French music at its most typical, strong vocal, accordion and a piano. I have no idea what he is singing about but it’s rhythmical and paints a very French picture.
An absolute banger of an album, even the weakest song on here is better than some albums strongest songs. Yeah genuinely isn’t a bad track on this album and must be close to 40 years after its release. It is still able to hold its own against modern albums. Absolute 5/5
It’s been 30 years since I last listened to this and it still blows me away, what an album. It was years ahead of its time when released and no one really caught up until the late 80’s by which time Jarre had moved on to other things. 5/5
ABBA were, in my opinion, the 70s version of bubblegum pop. Mass-produce, bland and mediocre in its quality of lyrics. Nearly 40 years later, my opinion still hasn’t changed, I’m not a great fan of them or their music but I appreciate that I am in the minority. When I compare it to many other 70s groups who lasted through to the 80s and beyond, I feel that it was nostalgic marketing that kept other on the scene, rather than quality of product. At Best 3/5
I had forgotten about this album, listening to it reminded me of what Queen was originally about. There are some great tracks on this album and it’s easy to see this album as the beginning of Queen as they became in the late 70’s
There should be an option for zero stars. Thank god this was their only album
It’s a great album, but it’s not as good as many have claimed. There are a few tracks that feel like fillers, don’t talk and waiting for the day being the ones that spring to mind. Still an enjoyable album, only worth 4 stars though
What an album!! This was a view of America in the 90’s from the view of an Afro-American and it’s hard hitting, truthful and very pictorial. TC has a great voice that makes the album what it is. There isn’t a bad track on this album and it’s one that I happily listen to time and time again. 5/5
The original disruptors!! Also, they claim to be. didn’t last very long, didn’t disrupt much and our queen, certainly outlasted them. Certainly not my kind of music, but someone at the time like them, I suppose.
Back in ‘85 the music itself didn’t make it stand out from the mainstream crowd, that’s not to say it’s a bad album, far from it. The video for take on my was what got everyone talking about a-ha, it was/still is a classic piece of music related artwork and really thrust them into the limelight. It’s a good album 4/5
I understand why he was such a phenomena, right, place, right person, right time and right voice, but his style of music, even the later stuff is not to my liking. That said I do appreciate his talents, and that of his management company who managed to keep him in the limelight, even when he was doing his national service. It’s not a bad album, it’s Just not an album that I would listen to because it’s not a genre that I can get into
When this appeared on my daily selection, I was looking forward to reacquainting myself with it. Sadly, time hasn’t been kind to this album, aside from tracks that made it into the charts, the rest of it. It’s quite bland and a bit forgettable. 3/3
Another album by Presley and Ross. This one is from a different phone is better the previous I still don’t get the fascination with him, it’s not my kind of music. I understand that he was a pioneer in some ways and many groups have said in the past that he was inspiration to them and their music, but in the 2020’s you can clearly see how his music is aged, and not particularly well. 2/5
