Album Summary
Rocks is the fourth studio album by American rock band Aerosmith, released in 3 May 1976. AllMusic described Rocks as having "captured Aerosmith at their most raw and rocking." Rocks was ranked number 366 on the updated Rolling Stone's list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time in 2020. It has greatly influenced many hard rock and heavy metal artists, including Guns N' Roses, Metallica, and Nirvana. The album was a commercial success, charting three singles on the Billboard Hot 100, two of which reached the Top 40 ("Back in the Saddle" and "Last Child"). The album was one of the first to ship platinum when it was released, and has since gone quadruple platinum.

No one is more surprised than me that this is not a 1. “Occasionally tolerable” doesn’t sound like much of a compliment, bit it’s infinitely better than I was expecting from these mopes.
Nice 🤩

Aerosmith was so much better before MTV or maybe until Get a Grip
Unlistenable shit. I will never understand how someone would willingly listen to this.
uhm not for me
guitar was insane. I loved this album, I really dont think theres a need for the screech he does every so often with the lyric, I suppose its "trademark" but his voice if fine enough without it. Nevertheless brilliant album.
Ah this has Last Child on. That's my favourite Aerosmith song. Duhnuhnuhnuh-nuhnuh, duhnuhnuhnuh-duh-whew. They're peak here, though that's probably not the popular opinion. It's like an introduction to sleazy cock rock which is very fun, provided you don't take it too seriously. Not a favourite band, but that guitar is sick. Great listen.
Wasn't a fan. I put this on at around 9:30 as I normally do to begin my album of the day, and I determined that it was way too early for Aerosmith. Doing PR tasks with these songs on wasn't a great experience, but I think it got better as I settled in and decided to clean out my email inbox. For the reason of not wanting to seek this music out but also the admission that Aerosmith wasn't optimized for search engine optimization work, I give it a 2/5.
There’s none of their biggest hits on here but this is just a really good album
Toys in the Attic is better, but this one rawks so much harder!!!
To me, Aerosmith has always been one of those bands where I really only needed a greatest hits album. They’ve got some bangers to be sure, but I find most of their songs to be repetitive. This album represents a lot of of that.
Low voltage ACDC. Bored me and made me less interested in the genre. 2 rats for rats in the cellar and nobody's fault.
Not bad if you're into that kinda thing. But nothing stands out.
I really liked the bass guitar throughout this album, felt ahead of its time. None of the tracks as a whole stood out though. 3*
Didn’t mind the first three songs but it got really old and. Annoying afterwards. Steven Is a nonce and deserves nothing. Gave it an extra star for the rest of the band Perry is a great guitarist.
Didn't mind this 👍...oh 😂 I realized Spotify had gone onto Van Halen and some other things. Obvs wasn't paying enough attention to the album, so guess it actually faded into the background for me.
A few good moments, but overall pretty middle of the road stuff.
Nice and short.
That sure was an Aerosmith album you betcha. Exactly the dad rock you would expect, and none of the huge hits here, so why exactly was this album picked for this list again?
Short and sweet, this album really features the best of what Aerosmith has to offer. It starts out strong with two huge tracks and then shifts and varies throughout the remainder of the album, allowing each song to leave its own mark. I appreciated the time signature changes and excellent guitar solos that exemplified how Aerosmith was pushing the boundaries of contemporary rock music.
Back in the saddle is a BOP (and I listened to it after watching Steel Ball Run which was fun) and Last Child is good, but the rest of the album was utterly forgettable. Just a bunch of innuendos as per usual. 2.4/5 -> 2/5
Rocks is a mercifully short solid rocker.
More listenable than I expected. But probably would not re-listen.
Came in with my expectations on the floor, but this impressed me. Surprisingly tight performances and interesting blues rock guitar work. Steven Tyler's vocal performance and lyrics were a lowlight. Rating: strong 6/10
They really know how to end a song, perhaps the first halves of them will grow on me more
Didn’t do much for me really, not that it was a bad example of hard rock or anything. Also an interesting totally WTF totally unrelated to this album - yet vital for for historical record - our last album was a Venom album, then news came out today that the founder died a few days ago. Crazy coincidence
Kinda boring ngl, it was there but I don’t remember much of it good or bad 2
This is what rock and roll should sound like. Excellent album. Not enough great songs to make it a 5 though.
I was worried that I’d have a bit of a bias, since I listened to a ton of Aerosmith as a child, so their music always elicits strong feelings of nostalgia. Honestly though, this was awesome. Probably their best record, certainly their most raw and authentic to my ears. Loved this.
Another 3.5 if I could (this rating system should really be out of 10). Classic classic rock! Definitely enjoyed, but I would always choose prog rock or stoner metal if I feel like rocking.
Aerosmith is good for a couple real fun rock anthems but I don't find their albums that interesting from start to finish.
Aerosmith – Rocks (1976) On Day 272, this record opened with undeniable momentum. "Back in the Saddle" kicked things off with immense energy, and the front stretch delivered real punch through highlights like the breakneck drive of "Rats in the Cellar" and the gritty groove of "Combination." However, past "Nobody's Fault" with the minor exception of "Lick and a Promise" the record noticeably fractured into two distinct halves. The instrumentation and vocal layers began to feel completely disjointed, as though they were tracked in separate rooms without cohesive dynamic interplay, leading to clear production inconsistency. Compounding that decline, learning about the predatory allegations and history surrounding Steven Tyler made it nearly impossible to separate the art from the artist, casting an inescapable shadow over the entire swaggering persona of the record. A compromised listen that lands at a 3/5.
Solid blues'n'roll, nothing much more than that to say actually.
Still good Aerosmith this one.
Tough one to rate - they're so sleazy but, as the title says, the album rocks
A BLAZING set of what are now rock classics from the Toxic Twins.
This is probably better than I’m giving it credit for, but it didn’t feel special to me. There’s some really great songs but most of the album is fine and nothing more.
I did like the song nobody’s fault
The first two songs on this album had me really excited, I had never really heard Aerosmith sound like that so it was pretty intriguing. It didn't last long, pretty much everything after that was very standard 70s hard rock. It's not bad necessarily, but I was really excited to hear something I wasn't expecting from them, and I thought this album was gonna deliver on that and it just didn't. Favorites: Back in the Saddle, Last Child, Home Tonight
It's alright
Yuck. Just another band I just dont like in really any way. I hate Steven Tyler voice with a passion and every time I hear him i want to turn it off. Thank God this is only 35 minutes. So ive established that I hate the vocals so let's quick move on the the actual music. The music is fine. Its nothing to write home about. Its just kinda southerny rock shit. If the guitars bass and drums were amazing maybe I could get over Tyler's bullshit but I cant get through that crap for just OK music. It almost makes it worse. If it was bad too I could feel something from it. But no. Its just OK enough to skate by. Im just tired. I cant give this garbage any more brain power. Its all bad in some way. I hate it and want to move on
Listened before? No Familiar with the artist? Yes Thoughts: - I know a few Aerosmith songs, but none of them are on this album. - I put it on while cleaning and it made for good background music, but nothing really grabbed my attention. - Felt especially generic lyrically. A low 3.
This is an album I feel like you could just have playing in the background while on a road trip or while doing some work on your vehicle. It didn't really grab my attention in any particular way, but it was okay to have going on in the background.
They always sound like they are having a really good time. Great album
Good album by Aerosmith
do yourself a favor and dont waste your time. yes, its on Kurt Cobain's list of 50, but there's really only Back in the Saddle thats worth listening.
As well as the previous record, it is produced exceptionally, composition is very good and good rock and roll for its time. The band and their songs transcend time and you can listen to it any time of the day.
Solid 35 minutes of rock(s). This is what plays in your dad's garage on a Sunday as he's cracking open a Bud Light.
rocks
Estou completamente apaixonado por 'Last Child'. E funcionou. Porra, como funcionou!
Listened to first 4 songs and wasn't really feeling it so didn't finish listening to the whole album
Brock and Broll
Da was nu toch voor niets nodig
3/10 - more generic american rock
This did nothing for me none of this was memorable or enjoyable Playlist add: “Back In the Saddle” because I had to put something and first track seems as good a choice as any
Rocks.
Great opener and they’re fun
It was OK
I wish I could get into this, but it just doesn’t do anything for me
just no. gross
This is hard rock caviar. Aerosmith at their best.
Sterk 3. Decent rock, ikke spesielt minneverdig.
It rocks. 70s Aerosmith is the only Aerosmith worth listening to.
Not that great tbh. I prefer the album with the cow-hide.
Some good riffs and fun pieces of the songs, but not really my style of music.
Heard before?:❌️ Will listen again?:✔️ 3.5
There's groove. There's thrash. There's emotion. There's rock(s). It's a great hard rock album from one of the most recognizable rock bands of all time. They're not my favorite sound, but this album is an exception. Favorite Song: Last Child Score: 76/100
I used to think Aerosmith were terrible. I still do, but I used to, too.
Wau! Yllättipä Aerosmith positiivisesti. Oikein toimivaa rokkia tämäkin ja ihan siinä nelosen korvilla.
Tääki oli oikein hyvvää rokkia! Mukavasti eteni ja räimi. Solid, en ossaa muuta sanua.
not bad, but too rock and roll cliché to me.
Fairly standard 70s rock - exactly what you'd expect from Aerosmith. It's probably then at the top of their game for what it's worth, but I've never been the biggest fan. Fave track: Last Child
Well... it was nice having an album of actual songs today instead of yet another steaming pile of experimental "artsy" vomit. Can't really say this did anything for me, though. Nor do I understand how Robert could possibly think this album is more career-important and must-hear than 'Get a Grip'. Glad we're done with Aerosmith now.
Oh! Another Aerosmith album? And the Armageddon song is still not on it. Pleasantly surprised and still a miss.
Always thought I was a bigger Aerosmith fan than I actually am. Probably because I spent so many hours playing their Guitar Hero game.
I mean it felt like a generic rock album - had a few cool riffs here and there but I don’t find myself coming back to it. Fav song: Last Child
This is my second Aerosmith album in quick succession, and this one’s quite heavy, but it’s not too bad. Two stars…
Fizzled after a strong start
I enjoyed this album more than I expected, never been a fan of Aerosmiths music. Just pretty tight all round, nothing exceptional but a very listenable album
Appalling "rawk" mess. Remember, grown men made this shite.
Not the best Aerosmith album in my opinion, but it’s mostly a solid album. There are a couple of tracks in the middle that fell kind of flat
It rocks.
Aye no bad
Solid rock and roll. I'd listen anytime.
Nice rocking but insufficient beauty.
These guys aren't I the same galaxy as the Stones or Led Zeppelin. But better than I expected, so a 1.5.
I can't rate it a 5 because there are only a few bangers on the album. However from start to finish it is unadulterated rock and roll with all the usual Aerosmith sexual double ententres
what should i expect from here, that's remarkable comparing it to other Aerosmith albums or music?
#233/1001 🇺🇸 I grew up with the MTV era Aerosmith so this record all sounds pretty fresh to me. There are undoubtedly Led Zep and Sabbath influences in here. The record starts off quite fuzzy in terms of production with the barnstorming Back in the Saddle but is quite polished by the final track. What really stands out to me is Joe Perry's guitar playing. Best Tracks: Back in the Saddle, Combination, Nobody's Fault.
Dumb fun
I like toys in the attic more, probably because I just like the hots but this also has some decent songs, nothing very outstanding but a nice listen
'Back in the saddle' is a great opener. 'Rats in the cellar' is a rock n roll cracker but overall the album doesn't hit the heights enough.
