A Rush Of Blood To The Head
ColdplayI guess I can see why they were so popular, its not music that will offend or challenge anyone. Not my cup of tea
I guess I can see why they were so popular, its not music that will offend or challenge anyone. Not my cup of tea
I found this mostly pretty boring. Their few hits are OK, the rest I'd rather have skipped.
I enjoyed this more than I expected to, especially the A side. They were more experimental than I think I gave them credit for.
Man I love disco. This one was fun, some tracks you can't help but bop along to. It wasn't phenomenal but definitely good.
The title track wasnt actually as cheesy and I remember. Definitely a sensual album through and through. Not sure I'd listen again but I think I got it.

Sledgehammer was fun. I didn't love the rest (those lyrics, terrible! I really don't get it). Had never even heard of Peter Gabriel before this, the mid-late 80s in general is a blind spot for me.
A side big band tracks were fun, but the ballads were a little too slow for my taste. Can appreciate the sound though.
I actually loved this, didn't think I would. I never would have listened to hip hop on my own! I think I'll be a lot more open to it now. The mask and their cover of no woman no cry are added to my rotation now.
Couldn't handle all the misogyny, despite some funky beats. Wouldn't listen again
Man I love disco. This one was fun, some tracks you can't help but bop along to. It wasn't phenomenal but definitely good.
Very funky, loved the grooves. It'd make great ambience music, I might play it again next time I do a deep clean!
I found it... alright. Nothing really blew me away here but there was nothing I really didn't like either. I can tell its good, but maybe just not for me.
I think I get why people like it, but it definitely wasn't for me.
I found it a bit boring, to be honest. Like they took all the fun and exciting elements of electronic music, removed them, and made an album of what was left.. I still kind of liked it, but probably won't listen again.
As someone who experienced domestic violence, a lot of this was unlistenable. 97 Bonnie and Clyde especially, absolutely disgusting song. Never liked Eminem and this solidified that.
My brother was obsessed with KISS when we were kids, so I'm very familiar with all these songs. Can't say I've ever seen the appeal, they sound pretty bland to me. Nothing really to love, but nothing worth hating either.
I wish I was the kind of person who "gets" jazz. But I'm not. I'm sure its objectively a great album and I'm glad I've now listened to it. Probably won't again though.
I didn't hate it, its probably some of the better hip hop I've listened to (mostly from this project actually). Not sure I'd listen again.
I listen to lots of punk and punk-adjacent genres. Somehow had never heard of MC5. I thought this album was pretty cool, and ahead of its time for sure. Favourite track was starship, would listen to that one again.
I didn't listen to the tracks missing from Spotify, but what I did hear was great. Really beautiful album.
Made decent background music. Would be great in a little coffee shop or something.
This was so cool. God I love synth. Do I give this 5 stars? Maybe? Pt. V was my favourite
This was one of my mum's favourite albums when I was growing up, and we listened to it constantly. So, I love it, but its not really possible I think for me to separate the music from childhood nostalgia. I totally forgot about this album though, and now I remember it exists I'll definitely be playing it at least a few times a year.
I expected to hate this, but it was actually alright.
I thought this was going to be a lot cooler than it was from the description. It was mostly boring.
It was.. OK. A bit too much camp and 50s nosrslgia for me (and I love camp).
Love this album, back to back bangers the whole way through
It was decent? Some great tracks I'd listen to again
It was just ok, a couple nice tracks.
This was super popular when I was in high school. Remembered some things listening again I'd rather not have tbh (Like every 14 yo boy running around yelling G--U-Nit!) But a couple of tracks friends and I will still put on ironically when we get together so that redeemed it enough for 2 stars.
First Bowie record, it was pretty good! Especially liked station to station.
I really didn't know what to expect from this one, but it was amazing. I added a bunch of new tracks to my rotation.
I can tell its good, but definitely not for me.
Very chill, I enjoyed it as background music
Way too long, I did not listen to all of it. I didn't hate it but I don't get it either
I enjoyed this. Fela Kuti has been on my radar for a while but this the first of his albums I've listened to. It probably wouldn't go in my regular rotation but I'd listen again.
This was really interesting and challenging to listen to, I don't think I know if I like it after the one listen. I appreciated it though.
I love p-funk and this is a solid album. I like others better though.
It was OK?
I've never listened to Joni Mitchell on purpose before. I didn't hate it, but probably wouldn't again
I didn't hate this. I really thought I would. It was like a slightly better KISS? Not bad.
Roxy music was one of the bands o discovered via this list and I'm glad to have listened. I love how weird and cool this album was. I almost want to give it a 5, except for the last 3 songs kind of lost it for me.
I liked this. I recognized some of the songs, but never knew they were Yes. America was my favourite track.
How have I never heard this? Loved it, will listen again for sure. It was noisy and fun.
Hated it. John Lennon is insufferable.
I'm pretty sure I owned this album when I was 12. Definitely lost the appeal over time. Some of the songs are so toxic! I gave it a 3 instead of a 2 just cause the beat goes on was kind of cool.
Like most 80s music, New Order was a blind spot for me and I really didn't know what to expect. I actually enjoyed a lot of it.
I forgot Gorillaz even existed... Definitely listened to this in my youth, and I honestly don't know what I think of it now. It feels very dated, but in kind of a good way?
I really appreciated this album. So much truth here, the lyrics really spoke to me. Its just not a musical style I enjoy, otherwise this would probably be 5 stars.
The second it started I couldn't wait for it to end
This is definitely an album I never would have listened to if I weren't doing this. So in that way this was great. I didn't particularly like it, but it wasn't bad either.
Well, I mean, its AC/DC. I really do hate AC/DC. I can't believe I'm actually listening to this of my own free will. But in doing so, and trying very hard to give it a fair shot, I'm realizing what I hate might not be their music. After listening to much worse albums on this journey, this is listenable at least. If I was capable of overcoming my pretentious bias against the band and people who listen to them, maybe this could get a 3. But, alas, I'm not.
Mediocre.
I guess I can see why they were so popular, its not music that will offend or challenge anyone. Not my cup of tea
It was OK as background music. Probably wouldn't listen again
This was cooler than i expected. Loved H2O Gate blues! Prescient until today.
Not a huge fan of oasis, it was just ok
I skipped over this whole late-aughts indie thing at the time. It all sounded kinda generic, and ya this kinda was.
There are some pretty great tracks on this one, but a bunch in the middle started to sound same-y. I do think I like the rolling stones more than I thought I did though.
I've never really gotten the appeal of Radiohead. This album didn't help. From the description I was excited, but actually listening.. It was kind of, boring? Still don't get them.
This was kinda fun. I know that he was really just repackaging music black people had been making already, but I can still see the appeal.
The Clash is one of those bands I've always thought was overhyped. There's just too much better punk and post-punk out there for me to want to listen to this.
This would have been a lot cooler without the vocals I think.
This is my second Joni Mitchell album, this one was more interesting than the first. I still probably wouldn't choose to listen to it again, but I feel like I appreciate Mitchell's talent much more after this.
This was a really fun album. I didn't really want to like it, but I really did.
This was really solid, classic country. I enjoyed it.
I actively hated this album. Read reviews, turned it up, hated it more. The guitar was really.cool but the vocals destroyed it. I had to give it a 2 just cause it's rare I find something good yet terrible.
The skits were horrific. I didn't really enjoy it at all, but a few tracks were kinda cool
I really really wanted to like this. I've listened to a bunch of Celtic folk inspired punk rock. I guess I was expecting it to be more like that? Some decent tracks but mostly mediocre.
This was excellent to have on in the background while I was working. I'm appreciating jazz more and more as it comes up in this list.
I had fun listening to this. I love this disco/funk revival stuff from the late 90s / early 00s. I did find this album a bit hollow, and there are better options out there for this style of music.
This whole thing slaps
I couldn't find the whole album anywhere, so was only able to listen to the 5 songs available on YouTube. This was interesting, but kind of cringe also. It sounded a bit like a worse version of Cornershop
This is my second Tim Buckley, and this was much more interesting than the first one (Happy Sad).
Jimi Hendrix is someone I've never really listened to outside of a few hits. I enjoyed this album, and would probably listen to some of these tracks again.
I've never listened to Elvis Costello before. I always associated him with lame easy listening music. This was not that at all (and it makes me wonder why I thought that, did he move that way later?) This was kind of cool. I didn't love his voice, maybe just his band is cool?
I found this mostly boring
I like CCR. I'm not sure this is my favourite album of theirs but its a good one.
I'm sorry, but I don't like Leonard Cohen. I tried, this time. I listened attentively trying to get it. I don't. What is there to like about this? I truly don't know.
I recognize a couple of the hits here. I can kind of appreciate the sentiment behind this album but overall it feels hollow. Wouldn't listen again.
This was a decent listen. I liked the first half better than the second.
For Christmas music, this is great. I want to know what else Darlene Love did now!
I love the Band, my dad listened to them all the time so there's a lot if nostalgia too. Oddly enough, I'd never listened to this one front to back and I'm glad I have now.
This was really cool. I'd never heard of minutemen before, I'll definitely be adding this to my rotation
Some of these tracks were kind of cool, not sure I'd listen again.
God this was boring
Overall a fun album. I struggled whether to give this a 3 or 4, it sounded a big basic but it came before most similar-sounding albums so maybe it deserves some extra credit.
This sounded a lot like coldplay but managed to somehow be even more boring, quite an achievement honestly. Needless to say, I didn't really like it.
Enjoyed this as background music
Some of the music was really fun, but the lyrics mostly ruined it. So many bad love songs..
I like Elton john but I've only ever really heard the hits. This album was great, I enjoyed it front to back
This one was a wild journey. At first I hated it, then slowly it started to grow on me. The last couple tracks were actually kind of enjoyable, even.
Before I started this project I really underappreciated Neil Young. Everything I've heard of his is solid.
This was a fun listen
This was hard to rate since the two albums are really different, and I'd rate each differently I think. I preferred The Love Below, it was a bit more funky.
I actually really liked this. It got a bit less compelling through the middle, but started and finished strong. I'll listen again!
Led Zeppelin is a big blond spot for me, I only know the hits. I'm not sure this was the right album to start their discography with, I wasn't overly impressed with it.
Wow, I can't believe this came out in 1970. I wonder what it was like hearing it then. I'm definitely not a metal fan but I can appreciate this. I even kinda liked it.
At first I thought they had ruined the blues. But as it went on I thought maybe not quite. Not the best of the genre by far, but still a decent listen.
Pretty much what I expected this to be
This was fun. The energy from the crowd really added to the vibe. I gotta listen to more James Brown now.
I liked this. Didnt live up to some of my favourits 90s hip hop albums, but this was still better than most stuff in the genre to me. The back half of the album especially was great.
I expected billy Joel to be worse than that was
Pretty average British new wave, except not that new wave-y? Still good, but I'm not sure I get the rave reviews. Maybe you had to be there
It sounded like coldplay, and I really dont like coldplay.
Pretty mediocre pop? I wasn't that into it
Half the tracks were really cool, and the other half I kind of hated. Maybe I'm missing context, not being a hip.hop fan, but I didn't see the concept really come through. This wasn't for me, but I can appreciate that it exists for people who its for
Only about half the album was available. What I heard was pretty good, very 50s.
Its funny, I was kimd if surprised to see this described as "pop" since its not what I think of as pop. I'd call it rock. But then I thought, was pop a fully distinct genre from rock in 1972? I don't think I know the answer... Was also fun to hear the studio version of the 70s show theme song. I liked it!
Basically what I expected. I like bloody Sunday, but not much else U2 has done.
I didn't love this one.. I think I can appreciate it for what it is but probably will never revisit.
I hated this for all the reasons I hate Leonard Cohen. The bluesy bits were listenable, and the one instrumental track might be enough to push this up to a 2.
I'm not sure I enjoyed this. I'm sure its good it just isn't my thing.
I like this version of Bowie (well, I'm learning I like most versions of Bowie).
Wow this was great. I'd heard Peaches before but nothing else on this album, and I'd never heard of the Stranglers despite liking lots of similar stuff. This was a great find for me today!
God, I hate Buckingham/Nicks Fleetwood Mac. No soul, nothing interesting, just bland and boring. How is this the Fleetwood Mac everyone knows? Why not albatross? Kiln house? Bare trees? Those are what people should listen to.
David Bowie was so cool, I'm glad to be listening to more of him. I just got Hunky Dorey a couple of days ago, so it was pretty fresh to compare. I think I liked that one better, but this is probably objectively a better album. Its absolutely wild that they made both of these at the same time though.
It just seems like fairly average 60s psychedelic rock.
Fairly annoying brand of early aughts indie. Not for me.
Listened to this at work and it was perfect for my day. Makes me want to listen to more Cuban music.
This was great. Of course I'd heard Blister in the Sun, and always assumed it was from the 90s. But the rest of this album was new to me. I'm usually not a huge fan of the more acoustic genres of punk, but this really maintains the rough edges of harder genres. Some of the tracks reminded me of the Modern Lovers, so between that and the ones that sound much more recent, I think the Violent Femmes really managed to achieve a timeless sound here.
I enjoyed most of this. Dude has a great voice.
What the heck was this? It might be the most random selection of genres and concepts I've heard on this so far. Can't say I liked any of it, but I guess I only hated a few tracks.
Nope, still don't like Pearl Jam. I can kind of appreciate why they are "good" but I wouldn't listen again. Heard enough of them played constantly on the radio in the 90s, thanks.
This is my second Traffic album. It was similarly ok, but not remarkable to the last one
I found this mostly pretty boring. Their few hits are OK, the rest I'd rather have skipped.
I can't believe I spent almost 2 hours of my life listening to this.
I just really hate coldplay. I don't think I'll ever understand the appeal.
This was weird but not in a good way.
The last song saved this from being a 1. Hated the rest tbh
Very 70s, quite fun and smooth.
This had some really fun tracks, and some boring ones.
I liked this more than I expected to. Cool concepts and production.
I mean, if you told me I was going to listen to some rave music from 1990, this is exactly what I would expect. I'm not sure its good but they knew their audience anyway.
How can you not like CCR?
Stuff like this really motivates me to keep with the list. This was incredibly good, and something I never would have known existed otherwise. The blues with African and Arabic sounds comes together in a way I didn't expect.
I like Bowie, but this definitely wasn't as good as most of his other stuff.
Frank Zappa has been a blind spot for me, I've just never listened to anything he's done really. This was a great intro, I really enjoyed it.
I did like this but it got repetitive and a bit boring as it went on
This the second Tribe album I've had now, and wow they are one of my best discoveries from this project. I think I still preferred their debut, this is very different but also incredibly good. Will revisit it for sure.
I usually like country, but I found this just so boring.
I'm still not a Joni Mitchell fan, this was my third album of hers. This was probably the one I liked the most.
I appreciated this album. I probably wouldn't listen again but I'm glad to have heard it
It wasn't anything special to me.
I mean, how can you not enjoy this? Ella's voice is amazing, and the arrangements are pure class.
This is my second Björk album, and I'm still not sure I like her. I appreciate her work for sure, its super interesting and unique. But do I enjoy listening to it? I don't know. I expect its an acquired taste. This earlier album was definitely more enjoyable than the last one I got. More electronica influence here. Her voice is just, jarring? Strange? I don't know. Glad to have listened, not sure I'd choose to put this on again.
There were some things here I liked. The political messages, the beats were decent. But the misogyny and homophobia put me off.
Knowing the reputation if this album, I guess I expected more. I've never listened to it, only some of the singles. I can tell that its good, and appreciate the influence it had on lots of things I enjoy that came later. And a few of the tracks on here I really enjoyed (I know there's an answer, especially, but it just made me want to go listen to the sonic youth cover)
This album is just so good, easy 5* for me. I've heard it many times, but this is the first time I noticed there's actually only one song about buildings and food.
Prog rock has been one of my best takeaways from this project. Its a genre I'd never really explored and the more I hear the more I'm into it. For me this wasn't up to the level of Yes or Rush, but still a great precursor.
This was such a strange experience for me. Some tracks I enjoyed but others I couldn't wait to be through.
I mean it was what I expected. Important for music history, sure. Kinda nice, kinda boring.
Definitely not my cup of tea, and I don't get the appeal tbh
I really like Neil Young. This wasn't as good as harvest but still some great tracks here.
This was pretty fun, I'd never even heard of this band before. Seems very odd for it to be tagged as "britpop" though. Not what I'd have called it.
I'm really not sure how to rate this. I enjoyed the hits, but the rest not so much. Definitely a product of its time which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but a lot of it was pretty boring.
I hated every second of this album. Don't get the appeal at all.
This was my brother's teenaged angst album. I'd never listened to the whole thing through, and well I'm not sure I'm better off for it. It was so long. So so long. Fairly samey after a while. I still liked a couple of the tracks at least.
I didn't like this. I kind of zoned out through most of it to be honest, and now its done I can't remember a single track.
I can't help but love this album, its mostly nostalgia I'm sure. There are definitely some unfortunate lyrics and probably 60s British blues in general hasn't aged well, but it just sounds really good.
Like sonic youth but without the edge. I don't hate it but I wouldn't listen again I don't think
I didn't really expect to like this, but it was very good. A lot of the political messaging felt pretty flat, lacking power and emotion? I'm not sure. Overall I enjoyed it though.
I definitely owned this album when I was 13. Didn't like it as much now as I did then, but it held up surprisingly well
I like the Smiths, this wasn't my favourite album, but lots on here I hadn't heard before and I did enjoy it.
I can appreciate that this album was groundbreaking, in a way. And, that Amy Winehouse had a really great voice. I still didn't like this though. It just feels, narcissistic? Manufactured? I cant quite place it, but off, somehow.
This was great for what it was. A bit sparse for my taste though
Very nostalgic. I owned this on cassette and used to listen to it walking to school on my Walkman haha. I think if it weren't for that I'd have rated it much lower.
From the description I thought this was going to be so cool, but it turned out to be I don't know what.. I didn't like it and didn't really get it either.
This was such a cool surprise. I'd never heard of this band or album. I really liked the first few tracks but it got a bit boring towards the end.
This was objectively good, but the more of this 50s jazz and adjacent stuff I listen to, the more it all kind of sounds the same.
This was surprising. I fully expected to hate it, but then really didn't. When I saw a 2 hour long metallica album, well there aren't very many things I'd want to listen to less. I still probably won't listen again, but it was interesting.
I really hated this. Didn't get it at all. For something so emotional the music was devoid of feeling.
I haven't listened to this in such a long time, I forgot how great this album is.
I did actually like incubus as a teen, but haven't listened to anything by them in at least 20 years. Can't say it held up very well at all.
I did actually like this, I wasn't sure if I would. I've never listened to Anthrax before but my brother is a big metal fan and has been in local thrash bands for a couple of decades now. So I got some context and that made me really appreciate this. Indians hit different when you know the singer is Iroqois, for example. This was more fun than other metal I've listened to, I might listen again.
The back half of this wasn't bad, but I didn't really get what makes it special
Found this one pretty bland
I really wanted to like this but it just wasn't that interesting. Had its moments, but in the end I didn't find it that special.
This was fairly generic psychedelic rock. I didn't mind it and I'm sure it was important at the time but it doesn't do much for me either.
I'm not really a smashing pumpkins fan but this is probably my favourite album of theirs, for what it's worth.
I went through a big reggae phase in my teens, and definitely used to listen to this album on repeat all the time. You know, not much of the stuff I loved at 15 holds up to a relisten now, but this one was actually even better with some more life experience to understand it.
I didn't enjoy listening to this album that much, there were some really great tracks but then some that I found kinda rough. But I could hear the influences this had on so much of the music I really love, so I had to rate it higher for that
Wow, this album seriously blew me away. It's so cool, so many different pieces and genres and sounds that come together just perfectly.
This might be my favourite pixies album. it's a bit rougher all through, but in a really good way. Solid 5 stars for me.
Definitely not my thing. I can appreciate what she's doing, and that this is objectively kind of cool but it really didn't appeal to me.
This is my 3rd Björk album now, and I think I'm starting to get her sound and get used to her voice but I still don't really find her music enjoyable.
I've never really liked Metallica, I hadn't heard this album before though (besides the title track). A few weeks ago I got their love symphony album which really impressed me, this one was mediocre in comparison.
It always seems to me that music from this time period (late teens, early 20s) has this very particular sound that I really dislike. I can't quite put my finger on it, but it feels like it's trying to hard maybe? Anyway, didn't like this one. it was bland and generic to me.
This is my second Springsteen album and I think I have to admit now that I don't hate him after all.
I liked this up until the 17 minute track of groaning.. maybe it was cool at the time but man that was a pain to listen to.
This is an album my dad always raved about but somehow id never listened to it before now. Reminds me a bit of Savoy Brown. I liked this better than the solo Janis Joplin stuff I've heard. Solid album.
I wanted to like this more than I actually did.
I feel like there are some of these late 60s psychedelic albums that hold up surprisingly well, and some where you probably had to be there. This one is solidly in the latter category.
I love every song in this album, and together it really is something special. I like pretty well everything by the velvet underground, but this one might be my favourite.
I found this pretty bland and lukewarm.
All these people have no taste. This was cool and fun and didn't take itself too seriously. Great album.
I didn't mind this. Definitely of its time but that isn't entirely a bad thing.
This was great to listen to. Not sure it'd be in my regular rotation but still a phenomenal album.
Weird and different. Id never heard of Dr. John before and this was really unlike anything else I've heard from that time period. I don't think I really liked it but bonus points just for that.
Id never heard of these guys before, definitely not this album. It was kind of fun but I wasn't a huge fan of the guys voice.
I've never been a fan of Joy Division, even though in theory they should be right up my alley. They are just so bland and boring I'm sorry.
This was such a strange and surreal listening experience. Some songs are like, weird Al before weird Al. Then suddenly it's kind of powerful political stuff, then we are back to kazoos and fake love songs. I kind of loved the parodies of pathetic teenaged boys though honestly.
I mean, how can this be anything but a 5? I love everything about this album.
This was more punk than I expected based on their hits. It's a shame none of these other tracks got the same attention as their poppier stuff, which is in my opinion much worse.
I knew some of the songs on this album of course, and Odelay was in my mum's regular car music rotation so I'm pretty familiar with Beck in general, I think. I kinda wish I wasn't a person who liked this but I think I need to accept that I am.
This album is really overrated. There was some ok stuff on the back half but mostly I found it boring. Metal should hit hard, and this doesn't
Id never heard of this artist or album. Wouldn't listen again but it was good for what it was.
Not a fan of Bob Dylan and this album didn't convince me he's anything special.
Fairly mediocre 60s pop
I didn't get this one at all.
This is a great album to show what psychedelic rock of that particular era can sound like. Better than most of the genre imo
Snoop is probably one of my favourite rappers but this album has a lot of gross content. Great beats, love the vibe but the lyrics brought it down for me.
What a treat. A fantastic album I had never heard before, this is what I'm here for!
Great album. I'd heard lots of these songs before but never listened through. It definitely sounds like Talking Heads, but weird in sort of a different way. You can hear more of this upbeat fun kind of style in their next couple albums, so I wonder if that was Chris and Tina getting a bit more creative freedom without Eno around?
This has a few gems, but overall a forgettable album. I liked their previous stuff better.
I really hated this one. Such a bore, and they slaughtered call me the breeze. Just terrible in every way.
I really hated this. I like Becks other albums but this was a real chore. I didn't get the sad or melancholy that other people seemed to, for me it was just boring and flat. Same thing happened to me with Ghosteen which had similar comments about the emotion of it. I guess I just don't connect to whatever it is about this kind of music that is supposed to make you feel something.
Never heard of Wilco. I kind of liked the country feel of this, I think if it weren't my third kind of mellow rock album in a row I'd have rated it higher, just wasn't what I was feeling today.
I think I prefer exodus to this one, but still a phenomenal album. No woman no cry is one of very few tracks where I prefer the live to the studio version.
I got this right after Bob Marley's Natty Dread, which was also his first album after the original band split up. I think I like Bob's album better, but this one holds it's own as well.
Jethro Tull is one of those bands I've heard a lot about and recognize a few of their songs but never dug into much. I think I've missed out, this album was great, fresh, pretty unique even among prog of the era. I'll listen to more from them for sure
Love the Allman Brothers. This was one of my dad's favourite bands so a bit nostalgic for me too.
I think this is an iconic album that really lets us feel the particular time and place it was made.
Didn't care for this one at all. Don't get the appeal either
I find ELO so fun. I've only ever really listened to their hits and I don't think I knew anything from this album so it was cool to explore their stuff a bit more. It was pretty well what I expected it to be, some super fun tracks and a few duds. I'm a sucker for that retro-futuristic sound and especially the vocoder so this works for me overall.
Excellent album, not my favourite VU but I still love it.
Didn't really get the appeal of this one.
I found this really boring and uninspiring. Not sure of the appeal.
This is just an all around great album. Might be my favourite pixies album.
I actually liked Taylor Swift when she was a country singer. She felt genuine and refreshing among the crappy pop-country of the time. This wasn't to my taste, but I think the appeal is the same for her now as it was then. She manages to take the blandest most boring pop and generic lyrics and make it somehow sound genuine, heartfelt and relatable. I think what she does, she does well and clearly it works for a huge amount of people. I gotta give some credit for that even if I struggled a bit waiting for it to end.
Thank God it really was a short album
At first I didn't like this. Then as it went on it grew on me more and more. The concept here is A+ for sure, very experimental sounds, the rhymes are interesting and surprising touching on some cool themes. It didn't quite come together enough for me to really love it but I'm glad to have heard it and don't really get the hate for it here.
Not my thing. I can see how it's good but I just didn't like it.
It was a bit strange to have this compilation instead of a proper album. It was fun, but not particularly special.
I didn't mind this but it was way way too long.
I don't like Eminem. This was better than the last album I got, but still very hard to listen to with the misogyny and homophobia. I gave it 2* only because of the real slim shady which has the benefit of millennial nostalgia
I liked this. Just a fun, feel good pop album. Some days that's just what you need.
I really hated this. It was like, they've taken the worst kind of easy listening crap and made it electronic. Don't get it at all.
Id never heard of this band before. Was pleasantly surprised. Like the laid back but energetic vibes.
Ehhh this was pretty boring. I like the concept, maybe if it were 40 minutes instead of 80 I'd be more generous?
Somehow the meat puppets have always been just outside my radar. I missed out, this was great. I'll definitely listen again.
I don't mind Steely Dan. I'd never heard this album before, and I kind of enjoyed it.
I don't see how you can't like this era of Elton John. Some tracks are better than others, sure, but this album is full of classics.
Id never heard of this artist of album before. I kinda get the appeal but I found it really boring, personally.
From the album cover alone I already know this has got to be great. I did like it, but the first track really eclipses everything else on this album.
I didn't really get this one.
I still think Radiohead is perhaps the most overrated band of all time. Not terrible but like how is this anything special? I don't see it
This was great. I was one of these who had only heard Come on Eileen and didn't really get why this group has multiple albums on the list. This one at least I'm glad was here.
This starts so strong with American Pie, then drops right off a cliff after that.
I've heard most of the tracks on this, but never listened to the album in full. I don't see how you can give this anything less than a 4.
I didn't mind this but it did get samey after a while.
Tarkus was pretty cool, for a 20 minute track I found it fresh and varied. The rest of the album was less inspiring.
Fairly lacklustre, and that's as someone who usually likes new wave
Like one very long ad.
My rating isn't because of this guy's terrible history, I actually just hated the music. It was boring and I couldn't even tell the tracks apart.
Pretty solid album, I'm not really a led zeppelin fan but this might be my favourite of theirs I've heard so far.
Probably not something I'd listen to often, but this is no doubt excellent.
This was really cheesy and not in a good way. I'm only familiar with the singles on this one, and even of those, Smooth Criminal is the only one I'd say is any good.
I didn't mind this one, I enjoyed it more than most of the hip hop records I've listened to for this project now
I was really stoked for this, after listening to a Toure album a few months back on this list. Malian blues was such a surprising and exciting genre, I was blown away. This one wasn't quite at that level. I'm not sure if it's just that the novelty wasn't there, or what but it was almost disappointing. I do think it's objectively good, though, and if I hadn't been comparing it to that last album I might have loved it.
Not a fan of the Beatles. Still don't really get it
This is my second Beatles album in a row after getting Revolver yesterday. I liked this better than that one, but I still just don't see what makes these guys so special. It's mid-rate pop at best for me.
I guess I didn't hate this, but I also am not sure why it's on this list. It didn't seem particularly interesting. Maybe it was influential?
I enjoyed this. Simon and Garfunkel always seem powerful and yet understated for me, in their lyrics and the music itself.
I kinda get why it wasn't a hit at the time. Time of the season is good, catchy anyway, but the rest of the album wasn't all that special
I mean, it definitely isn't my favourite Willie Nelson album, but it's pretty cool he made it
I'd never heard of these guys before. It wasn't bad but I didn't love it. A bit to ambient for my taste I think.
Pretty sure this is my favourite Wailers album, including all the stuff the members put out individually afterwards. This just hits so hard, every track is great. I don't think Marley himself came even close to this again until Exodus, and this is still better than Exodus.
I like Sleater-Kinney but never sat and listened to a full album. This was pretty good, I like the raw sound and I actually like her voice as well.
It sounded exactly like I expected it would based on the 1 or 2 songs from these guys that I've heard.
I'm not usually a fan of this style of music, but this surprised me. It was soulfull and more country than I expected. Her voice is phenomenal.
I always wonder if id like nirvana if I hadn't grown up listening to them.
This one was pretty good. Nice mix of genres.
I liked this. I don't think CCR are the best blues rock of that era, but their hits are catchy.
I didn't exactly love this but I'm glad to have heard it.
80s hip hop is just so cool and so much more fun that where the genre went. I loved this.
I honestly didn't hate this as much as I expected to. It's definitely cringey in places, and it feels like maybe she is trying to be like a wholesome Amy Winehouse. I don't think she quite pulls it off. She has a great voice though that I never really appreciated until listening to this. I also never realized she wrote and produced her own stuff, so a bit of respect for that.
I mean, it's not discovery. But it's good. Why isn't discovery on this list? Was this much more influential or something? I'm giving this a 5* more for how it shaped the rest of Daft Punk's discography than for this album itself. I still really like this album but it's a weird choice to be their only entry.
Basic classic rock.
I mean it's another Beatles album. They kind of sound the same after a while.
This one surprised me. I haven't really liked other Iron Maiden I've heard, but this album was great. Maybe a bit more punk?
My mum used to listen to this so there's a bit of nostalgia. It sounds very dated now, and you can definitely hear the smashing pumpkins influence.
Even though I generally like new wave, and am a huge Brian Eno fan, I'd never really dug into Devo. I think I missed out, this was so cool, cooler than I expected.
I tend to agree with the sentiment that there is too much britpop on this list.
Man early Santana was pretty cool.
I mean this was kind of fun. I didn't dislike it but it was kind of bland and samey.
I didn't mind this, some tracks were better than others for sure
I think I liked this better than the other Bob Dylan album I've had on this list.
I don't agree with the reviews that thought this is artificial or lacks feeling. I did find it boring but I don't think it's fair to say there is nothing here of artistic or musical merit.
Good for what it was. Not something id listen to regularly though.
I'm not a huge fan of hardcore. Some tracks on this I kind of liked but others were hard to get through. I think this is a genre that's just better live.
I loved her voice, and four women was powerful. Glad to have heard this one.
I can't help but find this generic. I bet it was cool but the hits here are so overplayed they've become mind numbing, and the rest sounds exactly the same.
This was cool, something totally different that I'd never heard of before.
Oh my God this was boring. And it went on and on and on.
Meh wasn't anything all that special imo
At first I hated this. It started to get bearable in the middle, then quickly back downhill again at the end.
Oh God this one was hard to get through. Why is this a must listen?
I mean, it is pretty cool.
This was so hit and miss for me. I was only familiar with the title track, and that more as the Marilyn Manson version tbh.. Some tracks were absolute bangers and others definitely felt their age and suffered for it.
How do you not like Fatboy slim?
I didn't mind this, the first track was absolute trash though, why would they put that on the album let alone open with it is beyond me.
I didn't mind this but I didn't love it either.
Not for me, I found this really boring.
This is a real fun album, I've listened before but nice to revisit it today.
I like sultans of swing, and the rest of this has a very similar sound. It's just about what I expected.
Nope. Hated it. Awful combination of boring and stupid.
For what it was, this was alright. Probably wouldn't listen again though.
I got this right after another ambient electronic album, and if it weren't for that I may have rated it higher.
Look over there, a dry ice factory. Good place to get some thinking done.
Didn't get what is special about this. It was mediocre to me.
Theres lots of country I like, this I did not
I was surprised that I knew so many songs on this album despite never having heard of it or Harry Nilsson.
Not a fan of this one. I found it boring.
I don't get the appeal of Radiohead. This is the third album of theirs I've gotten, I probably like this the best of them, but this also feels like more generic grunge than anything that special.
I just really don't like these slow ballad guys. None of them, and this was no exception
I don't think I'd call this country. Folk, maybe. I hated it, hated his voice hated the vibe. Definitely won't be pulling this up again
Listened to this with my morning coffee and it was a great way to start the day.
Bittersweet symphony was huge for me when it came out. Played everywhere constantly! And I pretty much forgot about it. I think that song holds up, not crazy about the rest of the album.
This one was kind of fun. Sounds very 2012 hipster, but I guess I don't hate that.
I bet this would have been awesome in a packed club at 2am. Less so on a Wednesday afternoon commute. Oh well.
Wasn't a huge fan of this but it wasn't terrible
Of the 4 radiohead albums I've had to listen to for this, I can at least get some of the appeal of this one. I still didn't like listening to it though.
It's Muddy Waters, what's not to like
Sounded exactly like what I expected it would
Maybe not the deepest or most interesting album, but a great vibe. I had fun with this one.
I'm Canadian, so have heard at least the singles thousands of times but I think this is the first time I've listened to a rush album all the way through. I didn't like the sound as much as earlier prog, but this was still decently good
I don't really know what to say about this album. It really didn't stick with me.
This is actually the first time I've listened to a full Queen album. I only recognized Killer Queen, which is a great track. The rest of the album left me kind of disappointed honestly. Still good, but I guess my expectations were high.
It kind of blended together after a while
I usually like LCD Soundsystem, but this album just wasn't great. I hope this isn't their only album on this list, it's definitely not the one I'd choose.
This album already gets points for me for paper planes. This came out and got really big when I was around 18, and was a huge club anthem at the time. Then there are all the little nods to other songs and artists I love -- Iron Maiden on the cover, Modern Lovers, the Pixies, the Clash... probably more that that I didn't pick up on the first listen. Then it's just kind of a cool album, very experimental, the samples are cool, I like her vocals. This one won me over.
I'm familiar with this album, and enjoyed revisiting it today
I didn't like this as much as the previous Roxy Music album I listened to. Everything was a bit slower and smoother. Just not my thing I guess.
First time listening to Fugazi. I didn't hate it
I didn't mind this.
I have a lot of nostalgia around this album, it was one that was played constantly by my mum growing up. So it's hard not to like it, even if I probably wouldn't choose to listen to it otherwise. That said, I think it is an objectively cool album and one of Beck's best
I'm not a fan of REM, and couple of the tracks were fun but the whininess of his voice is too much for me
I like the idea of this album more than the album itself
This got me almost crying on my bus commute today. This is what a cover album should be, every song takes on a whole new character than the original.
I dunno, fairly generic and boring to me
Nothing reminds me quite so much of being 12 than this album. I was really surprised it came out in 1986, it's hillbilly in the right kind of way.
Not a fan. Found this one pretty boring and hollow
I was listening to this when I received some pretty bad news and well the mood was set anyway.
Man, this is why I keep doing this project. What a cool album that I probably never would have listened to otherwise. You all have no taste.
I'm not big on this style of ambient music. This was more bearable than other albums in this genre though
Definitely strong for a debut, but there were some tracks that were weaker, and I guess I'm not a huge Doors fan
Ok, I admit I've never listened to Rod Stewart but this is not what I expected. Why is he singing blues and country? Rod Stewart was making music in 1971? Also unexpected. It is boring and uninspired though which is what I expected. Put in context with all the other blues rock acts at the time this is pretty lame.
This is the second Elvis Costello album I've gotten. This one was closer to my impression of his music, I didn't enjoy it.
This was pretty cool. I liked it, anyway.
I only listened to the original track list, the extended I think would be too long. This album wasn't bad, but I'm not usually a fan of live albums.
It all kind of faded together eventually. Fine for background music I guess but it's not something I'd ever choose to put on
I found this super boring and of its time.
I dont think this is as good as The White Stripes, and kind of just does the same thing they did but less fresh and less raw. It didn't do much for me
I enjoyed this one. Very nice classic country and western album. I liked that the production was a bit rough, it lends to the atmosphere.
Its not the kind of country I enjoy.
Didn't get how this is anything special
I'm not really a fan of Amy Winehouse. Something about her just rubs me wrong, and I guess her music doesn't really speak to me the way it seems to for others. With Back to Black, I could appreciate her talent even without really liking it. This one just isn't at that level yet.
I thought this would be cooler based on the description. If I had gone in blind I probably would've liked it.
A couple decent tracks, but mostly meh
This is what a live album should be, it captures the ambience and what it might have been like to be there. Johnny's personality comes through and the audience is right there with him the whole way. And then the music, well, it's just great.
I mean, it sounds like Bjork. I do find this album interesting but it's not something I'd ever go out of my way to hear again. Once is good.
God i find this kind of stuff insufferable. It sounds like he thinks he's profound.
This one was pretty fun. I'd never heard of X before, I'll have to look into them more.
Definitely not at the level of his previous albums, but still enjoyable.
This one isn't for me. Her voice is fine but the music is so bland and unfeeling. The opposite of what soul / r&b should be.
This was kind of cool. Sounds ahead of its time for sure.
Pretty typical bar rock. It wasn't bad but it wasn't anything particularly special either
I recognized a number of these tracks. I like Neil Young generally, and this one is a bit more rock and less folk/country. I liked it but it's not my favorite of his.
In theory I should like Depeche Mode, i like a lot of other stuff in the same genres. But, i really just don't like them. A bit too clean, kind of boring?
So long.. I lost patience for this album before I even got halfway through.
I didn't mind this, smooth yet still funky.
I appreciated this more knowing it was a bootleg, but it's still way way too much Bob Dylan
I liked this. Decent blues album. But some tracks were better than others.
This was pretty cool. Some parts more than others. I feel like it's one I'd like more and more the more I listen, so I'll have to remember to come back to it.
My god this was torture. So boring, so long.
My god i hate Tom Waits.
All the Neil Young is starting to blur together. I was less familiar with this album than others, but still enjoyed it.
Liked this a lot better than the previous Pogues album i got. Maybe I was just in the mood for it today? This was a bit more fun and a bit more punk than I expected based on the last entry.
I can see how this is kinda cool but it wasn't for me.
Not the kind of country / blues I enjoy, that's for sure.
Oh man. This album brings back memories. Of my gr 9 best friend, obsessed with Billy Joe, hanging out in her room fully decked out in Green Day posters, playing the Sims 2 with this on repeat in the background. For better or worse, this was probably the album of my generation. And you know what, coming back to it 20 years later, it's not bad.
Hated everything about this. See some people comparing to the Flaming Lips, who i actually typically like. And strangely I can see the similarities but still really hated this one.
I've never listened to the Grateful Dead before, my understanding was that their studio stuff wasn't really worth the listen. I didn't find this half-bad.
Didn't really get this one
Nirvana lite
Not my favourite kind of thing to listen to for sure, but I guess i didn't totally hate it...
Didn't mind this except the lyrics.
I knew the one song. Overall I didn't mind this one but they kinda fade together after a while.
Didn't mind this for the first little while but it got old fast
Not the kind of thing I'd ever really listen to but I didn't mind it
Not my favourite black sabbath album, but the second side was alright.
Lacking feeling
Didn't mind this one, pretty simple and unassuming, but that matched the vibe
Forgot about this album. I enjoyed it. A bit punk-er than a lot of grunge.
Never got what people see in REM. Just not my thing I guess.
This felt pretty shallow and uninspired for something that claims to be political.
